on takao's grandpa being the only responsible adult, it's like... ok i don't know how to describe it other than a certain quote from my favorite series of snapcube streams ever, "i feel like all of the weird, like, child abuse in this show is gonna be like, really recontextualized if i ever decide to do a rewatch" except it's just, specifically takao's grandpa and the surprising amount of times he's attacked his grandson. like it's one of those things where you're not supposed to think too hard about it but also he is definitely not responsible

come to think of it i think "most responsible adult" probably goes to max's dad, which makes sense considering he's not really involved in the plot (i mean takao's grandpa isn't either but, y'know)

also in regards to daitenji, i feel like above all else probably the worst thing he did was just.. recruiting a bunch of teenagers into fighting borg without telling them what was actually going on, particularly in regards to rei. like idk how to explain it but.. even if daitenji isn't malicious, taking this homeless kid in and then getting them involved in All Of That is kind of a shitty thing to do, y'know?

that's a fair point but like, a couple of times grandpa did break tyson's thick skull you know? like times when his head was unclear (couple of times in the first two seasons and few times in grev) and his inputs actually helped. i do respect him a lot because he single handedly raised tyson (the kid has barely got any family). sure, he can abusive at times but you know, not useless (unlike hiro who really thought he helped his bro).

in case of dickenson a similar thing happened in vforce; both kenny and him were aware of zeo's situation and it was his decision to not inform the bladebreakers about it. i dont know if thats a good or a bad thing because

either

tyson being emotionally unstable and moody implies that he could react in any way possible, but for the most part, realistically he'd be spending days trying to comprehend what happened and would basically be very confused and lost. this could either make him better or worse. ofc he'd definitely come down to a respectful decision like he did in the anime and encourage him but...he would be on a high time crisis (anndddd followed by more beloved grev circumstances of betrayal and trust).

the fact that it happened during the battle was abrupt as hell (vforce's writings..) and i kinda feel bad that tyson just didnt know and could barely think at that point- again idk if thats good or bad. i mean we're talking about vforce end where tyson was NOT doing mentally okay and all he had on his mind was zeo.

and yeah dickenson pulled another one of these in grev where no one had an idea about whatever the hell happened to bba and everyone was worried while this dude went missing. i dont blame him for the selling of it because apparently he had less control but yeah. you know...dont disappear into thin air. this makes me wanna bring up that asshole hiro again but im restraining myself.

Beyblade Characters That I Think Would Be Friends With Essentially No Explanation

Demure and Tsubasa: The chillest motherfuckers on the planet istg. They would just be chill best friends exhausted from looking after their crazy friend groups.

Nile and Sophie: They would absolutely talk about archeology and anthropology together constantly and go on museum visits. 

Kyoya, Sophie, and Tsubasa: I headcanon that all three of them speak French and once Sophie finds out the three of them begin gossiping to each other in French during group meetings since no one else knows what they’re saying.

Toby and Madoka: The scary parent friends of their chaotic friend groups. If they teamed up, the world would shake in fear.

Hikaru and Lera: These two would be a freaking force of nature together. They’re both really strong and pretty fearless and I feel like they would mesh together really well as the husky friend and the black cat friend.

Jack and Teru: The art babies! They would be able to talk about the art world and they’re both really creative so I think they’d vibe well.

Mei-Mei and Selen: I honestly just think they'd get along for some reason and that their personalities would work together really well. They would just kinda build each other up in terms of energy.

Ryuutarou and Dynamis: These two have similar personalities. I could see them being silent friends who don’t actually talk much but are good friends.

HAPPY FANFIC FRIDAY I’d like to order you all to go read this chapter of Metal Mayhem by @lady-lazagna​ before seeing the art. I mean it I got my eyes on you.

So... as you can tell... this piece is a lot and I have feelings on this- Don’t expect any piece of this quality for fanfic friday again for a while at least.

I’m going to start with a short summary and description of the fic. Metal Mayhem is a multichapter fic about a new world champions. Its also about making Tsubasa the angstiest person imaginable-

It’s as well written (in a technical sense) as any other fic Laz writes. She has a great sense of pacing and dialogue, along with a way of making scenes seem their perfect length. As a fellow writer, I can’t help but appreciate the skill. Not to mention managing to keep distinct and interesting characterization across the board of characters, while also switching POV.

I can’t really talk about the fic as a whole that much, I feel, because that’s not what really interested me. What broke me about this fic was really just it’s treatment of Hikaru.

Chapter 2 (spoilers if you didn’t read the fic like I told you to) features a battle between Tsubasa and Hikaru, where they’re both trying to have fun with battling again, but Kyoya is egging them on and poking at their insecurities. Finally, Tsubasa taps into his dark power and delivers his ultimate move, bringing the battle to a standstill as they both freak out. He and Hikaru get to talking, its a very good conversation, before Kyoya asks them why they don’t get back to battling. Both of them look over to see their beys still spinning, and this, this is the moment I broke (crucify me if I got any detail wrong Laz)

Because Hikaru starts to celebrate, so wholly and freely. She really didn’t think she survived that battle, but she did.

The way Laz writes Hikaru’s celebration is so over the top, a bit manic, and the energy is absolutely perfect. She managed to capture that overwhelming happiness from an outside perspective and it-

Maybe I’m a bit mentally ill about Hikaru with all the fics I write of her, but omg that scene. That scene is probably one of my favorites in any fanfiction I’ve ever read. That is part of the reason why I am so vocal that anyone looking at this art should go read the fanfic first. I know huge swaths of this fandom that don’t touch the fanfic, so, this is your reminder.

Urgh I guess it’s time for me to talk about the art? I dunno if I want to put this on what is normally a more celebratory post (Fanfic Friday for me is about trying to celebrate other creators I enjoy) but given the difference of quality in this work and other fanfic fridays, I feel the need to quickly explain. (skip right here if you dont wanna hear a bit of a rant)

This took me an entire day of constantly drawing to do it, and was my first time trying to draw a three panel comic. I don’t normally try to draw my fanfic fridays in detail because a) I dont know how to draw dynamic poses that well, so leaving them undetailed lets me try to so I can capture the scene of a fic and b) I don’t actually want there to be a skill bar to participate in fanfic friday. Like, I don’t want people to think you got to spend hours and hours on a piece of fanart to participate in fanfic friday.

The reason this drawing is so much more detailed is that I couldn’t justify to myself doing anything that would sell this scene short. It actively made me cry, there were tears in my eyes, and as I was considering drawing this I was like “there are people who are going to see the art without reading the fanfic” and I did not want to give anyone, absolutely anyone, a view that in any way cheapened the amazing scene Laz wrote. Fanfic Friday should just be a small celebration of the fic, but I do struggle to do that sometimes knowing people might not read the fic and wanting to like, yknow, encourage them to.

I think I oughtta stop rambling now. I do wanna say that the quality of this art is in no way a value judgment on the other fics I do. They are all great fics that equally deserve reading, this scene just struck me personally (as the Hikaru Fan tm) really hard. Im probably gonna do more detailed art as I get better at this, but for now, sketches are really what I feel most comfortable with.

To people telling me that Motti is actually Johannes's sister. Believe me I definitely prefer this to the idea of her having some weird crush on him. Johannes being unable to find any other partner for the tag team tournament and being forced to ask his annoying little sister is a really funny idea. However, I don't get where that idea comes from. The wiki (a fan made resource) states it as absolute fact but it's never stated in the show (at least not in the English dub) and the show, seemingly regardless of dub, implies more that she has a crush on him.

To be clear, this makes me uncomfortable because it feels like the episode is trying to romanticise this girl who looks to be younger than ten. I don't actually have a problem with her having a ONE-SIDED crush on him. Kids get crushes on adults or teens all the time, mainly celebrities or fictional characters, and it's a totally innocent, childish thing. As long as the adult/teen in question is... You know, appropriate about it. On-screen, Johannes only ever shows annoyance with her, thinking of her as a nuisance, snapping at her when she gets in the way, and only partnering with her in the first place as a last resort, which yes, does have a sibling vibe. Johannes does act like an older brother, Motti though doesn't act like a younger sister, besides maybe the part about needing a bribe to do anything helpful/nice. That's definitely something my sister would do.

The rest though... Who looks at their siblings like this? O.o

That's just weird, even if it was for a joke, it makes me uncomfortable, especially the frame I won't show that puts the two of them in frame of roses staring at each other. That literally has to be in Motti's imagination considering the out there imagery itself and Johannes immediately snapping at her.

Which honestly, thank you. That entire fifteen second stretch beforehand was really uncomfortable and I'm glad my new problematic fave doesn't have pedophilia on his track record.

So if they are siblings, then this is REALLY creepy and no thank you.

One of my personal headcanons is that Rei is a big pokemon fan.

Mainly because it was one of the first things he met at the start of his journey when he left the village.

When he was not training or checking out the food, or during long hours of travelling, you would see him play on a gameboy he got thanks to daitenji. He probably started either with the first gen or the second (not sure yet but I'm really leaning in him starting with Gold/Silver because it's the gen Raikou is from and you know... electric tiger thing is kind of all Rei's deal). Anyway he did play all the games. If he started with Gold/Silver he would have gotten Red/Green/Blue/Yellow at some point not long after, and really gets into the glitches that the first games where. His copy of Red is probably broken beyond hope.

With the years he gets all the new games, maybe not always at launch but as soon as he can for sure. He always gets one of the pair and then the third title, collecting the second game of the pair after. Diamond/Pearl/Platinum is when he starts getting more into the world building of the games, replaying the older ones and trying to want to put together all the little bits (look pokemon lore is. Something. Someone in there really cares and wants to build something).

Ask him about black and white you will not be able to stop him from explaining everything. The whole ideals Vs truth thing of the games and how Reshiram and zekrom are some of the best looking legendaries since Ho-Oh and Lugia (and that is just cause those where his first games). And also not a third game but a Duo Of Sequels?? White 2 and Black 2 gave him too much hope.

XY where enjoyable. The topic of life and death, more lore, the AZ thing. Megaevolution? Dam yeah! mega kangaskan broken af, amazing. Didn't really like the starters tho and overall the game left a bit of a weird feeling, like something that didn't reach it's full potential. Something that was changed at last minute. The post game with looker was nice yet seemed a bit out of place and Team Flare felt like a joke to the previous evil teams. Also NO THIRD GAME? NO Pokemon Z? No Zygarde lore? Damn.

I haven't tackled the remakes yet but Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in this gen where probably his favourites of them all other than the Heart Gold and Soul Silver. The ORAS post game was great. Really anything that adds to pokemon worldbuilng and delves into the past of world is like catnip to him.

His Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon experience was kinda ruined by the fact that basically all the important bits where spoiled by the trailers and leaks, being when he starts being more online and active in online spaces. But Also these games are like a bomb of lore, maybe not well approached but fucking multiverse being canon in pokemon is wild. Ultra wormholes sucking people in and trowing people around causing them amnesia? He hopes none pf his faves suffers this (oh dear if only you knew ) yet maybe a little bit he hopes they do just to see them again earlier. Also the fact that is the first game where the grunts of the team you fight aren't really the evil team and the villain is someone else? Nice change. He liked team skull. On the other hand Lusamine initially reminded him of Judy a bit on first impression, until Lusamine goes completely batshit insane(Really the anime made her too nice for the little I have seen and she is awful in the games). And Again a duo of sequels, but this time they don't work as well, not adding much until later in postgame.

Now we enter in switch territory which for me is harder to work with, not having it and not being able to first hand play but

He is a nostalgic so of course he liked the Let's go. Seeing the pokemon in the overworld and seeing shinys was great, also using the joycon to launch the balls

Sword and Shield Are good, too linear, but good. Also first games that get DLCs. The new pokemon where nice, but didn't like any of the starters, and he enjoyed trying them and making different combinations. Hell he even got more into the pokemon competitive scene and loved it, he made his own teams for each different season! The combination of having more free time by not being a blader full time anymore and the lockdown really made him go down the hole of making the perfect team for him. He wanted to run a Rain team so that thunder had 100% precision but he felt good runnign a Sun team near the end of the season. He was close to reach the world championship but at the end didn't have enought points for the smallest margin. His pokemon flame was burning more than ever in this period.

At the same time the Diamond and Pearl remakes felt like a slap in the face. After ORAS he was exited to see how the lore would have been expanded in a 4 gen remake. Instead Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the exact same games as the original but with a style choice that.. works well in pixel and not that great like this. Anyway it was nice not having to wait 45 minutes for a chansey health bar to go down.

Then Legend Arceus came around and OH BOY YES. It felt like everything he ever wanted. Semi open world, able to see and catch pokemon on sight, playing in the past of a region he already knows, the region that started his lore obsession and it is not disappointing! The story, the characters, oh is that the train man for 5 gen? Cool! OH no wait, SAD!! why couldn't it be the other one. Sure maybe the graphics could have had some more work and there are some minor bugs but in the overall the game WORKS

He was working in his competitive team for the last tournaments before the worlds, so he played these last games slowly and mostly after the worlds. He enjoyed them even while the 9 gen talk was full on and leaks where booming everywhere. He had to block the pokemon tag to not get spoiled and the little he heard and saw made him worry

And when the games came out his worries where confirmed. Scarlet and Violet. When he sees the first experience shared He is disappointed. More than that. He feels cheated on. If he felt that XY where unfinished with these games it's an objective fact. Sure he is a nostalgic but there was no need to have a game so buggy and glitchy at times. Some are fun sure and he knows he abused the shit out of glitches in the first games but this has a different taste. And he is angry because he realizes he has been part of the problem for the longest time. That these games where pushed too fast. There was already a pokemon game out this year, what need was there to push another one. What bad could have done to delay it a little bit more. He knows it is not possible with the cards and everything else around it but is stills does not feel right. And he is sad. Because once again he sees potential. He sees improvment in certain aspects, He sees the work someone has put into these games, in the stories they want to tell, but the shell all around is just not working playing it. His friends watching him play can feel the duality of the feelings inside of him. Yes he got the games, he got them because he wants to compete again. Build a team early and test it. He is not fond of the estetic of the new mechanic but he already has found it interesting on how it challenges his knowledge of typings. There are not many new pokemon that he likes, he will still try them. Sometimes you just have to run with one to find a surprise bond with them. Still there are so many old gen pokemon that he likes that it is hard sticking to the new ones. Of course his starter is sprigatito. I mean he is a cat. He probably would change starter only if playing with a special someone that really wants the grass cat.

He is such a pokemon nerd that he even considered and then got the eeveelutions rings for him and his partner.

Anyway yeah this was supposed to be short but Rei said no you listen to me now I have things to say and feelings about this whole ordeal so here this is sorry for the long post

what really went wrong with v force villains imo:

I really think the villains were the major issue in the season I mean like, it could’ve definitely worked out with a little better writing.

-the villains shouldn’t be team rocket villains (aka Gideon) they genuinely need to scare the heck out of you like Boris did

-the redeeming factor however about Gideon and his people was Wyatt’s arc. Dub or Sub, both the consequences showed us how much of a fucked up world those teenagers were living in and kai’s actions during his match with Goki showed us how much it affected him.

-also about Kane and Salima: Tyson vs Kane was good because 1) Kane was genuinely losing his shit and it was scary 2) Tyson was literally about to die (could have been executed better) 3) salima was screaming for Kane while Jim was laughing like a psychotic bitch and Goki was literally crying. So you know, it was psychotic as hell and I liked it tbh.

But the rest??? Like the island arc was??? It could have been executed so much better.

-also like ep 4 they were legit trying to kill Kenny and Hilary like…make that more serious buddy because it was no joke+why do they always cover up how anxious Tyson was? His battle stats were like 0 at that point and he was barely able to summon dragoon + he was humiliated in front of his hometown……he was obviously at his worst and for him to be the one saving both of them….why is that not serious?

-Overall saint shields and dr. Zagart and Zeo were good. The end-of-the-season tension remained. A little more angst overall and I think I could take Gideon a lil more seriously lol. And dr. K I forgot about her.

-king and queen were good for the amount of screen time they got

Still takes me sometime to realise that ep 4 was no joke but the writing made it look like one at some points.

It could have definitely been better if they showed us the consequences like we saw with Boris and all(they only showed Wyatt). You saw children getting thrown into fucking cells and going through some psychotic hanging above snakes training. Savannah Speculation

So, Team Wild Fang wasn’t always the representatives of the entire African continent. They originally started off just as the reps from a fictional country called Savannah. Now, the information we are really told about this country sums up to this: it’s small, poor, has very few people, and really, really needs trade partners. 

Out of all the groups we see, they are one of two groups with blended blended countries of origin (Kyoya and Benkei from Japan, Nile hinted at from Egypt, and Demure from a primarily grasslands country), the other being the EU representatives. 

However, unlike Team Excalibur, they only started out being representative of one country, who apparently had so few bladers that they had to turn to opening the selection tournament to make a mark on the global stage.

So what’s the backstory of Savannah? What put the small country in such a tight spot? And where in Africa is it even located? Well, with a little research and a whole ton of hyperfixation, I believe I have a pretty solid theory.

One: Savannah’s Location

We are told that Savannah is a small African country. However, since Africa is the second largest continent, that really does not help us much. All it did was eliminate the other continents.

The first hints towards Savannah’s exact location are its climate. The area around Rock City (the location of the selection tournament), appears to mostly fall into the semi arid type of climate. Therefore, we can cancel out all areas that are purely arid or grassland, leaving us with this search area.

Now that doesn’t look as helpful as it actually is, because our darling dearest Beyblade loves dramatic opening shots. And from that, we know there is a more arid are of the country as well, further narrowing it down to places with both. And Kyoya walks through a more arid area, however, it is primarily rocks, not just sand. Which is a huge clue, as there are four deserts within Africa that have a large amount of rocks in them: The Kalahari, The Karoo, The Chalbi, and The Guban. These narrow our map of possible locations to look like this.

Now, we are looking at exactly five countries that could have given up some of their land to form Savannah. In the south, we have Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. And in the east, we have Kenya and Somalia. I’m going to go ahead and eliminate South Africa off this list as it rejoined the British Empire after the end of Apartheid in 1994, which is really recent, as well as it being a huge and well known country around the world so it would likely remain untouched.

Next to go is Botswana. This is mainly due to how it is hinted that Wild Fang arrived in Japan by boat. Now, I understand that they were likely coming from India, but we also see Rock City. That is Savannah’s capital and if they had an airport, it is likely to be there. But we see no signs of one, so I’m choosing to believe their main mode of transport off the continent was boat and Botswana is landlocked.

Now we’re down to Namibia, Kenya, and Somalia. Now we focus on the other aspects of Savannah we know. That it’s really, really, poor. That eliminates Namibia off the list in my opinion because they are already well know in the diamond industry and any splinter country off them would likely immediately be absorbed into it as well. So we’re down to Kenya and Somalia. 

Kenya does have a larger GDP than Namibia. However, Kenya has a large amount of tourism industry in its borders, which functions (according to what i read) as one of its primary sources of income. A splinter country would not have that infrastructure ready and judging by how all officials we see are in military-esque uniforms, the country is pretty new. It would have to rely on another main source of income that is common in Kenya, agriculture.

Somalia has the lowest GDP of the final two countries and its main source of income is agriculture, specifically livestock. Easier to set up in a young country, and decently easy to integrate into the trade market of, agriculture is my best guess on what Savannah’s main export is.

Now you are realizing that both of those countries seem to fit all the requirements, and you’d be right. So here’s my final purposed location for Savannah: right in-between the two.

The semi arid and arid climates line up perfectly, as does the naval transportation and rocky deserts. Savannah is a newly formed country between Kenya and Somalia.

Two: Savannah’s Origins

We’re into the speculation section now. 

I’ve mentioned Savannah as a newly formed country a few times, and this is mainly due to unlike nearly every other county, it does not have trade partners. It has no economic support from others and is clearly struggling. They do not care about accurately representing their country’s culture (ie the open to all selection tournament). And that could be because they don’t have a single central country culture yet. The country is still setting into its new role as one, and any representative would settle into that role with it, so it does not matter their country of origin (and the rep team probably were granted citizenship as soon as they were selected, meaning they are now at least dual citizens there). 

Another hint that the country is really newly formed is that fact that all officials we see are in military clothing. Now, government officials with military backgrounds aren’t odd, but literally every official we see are in uniform. That’s really common after a fight for independence in particular, as people seen as hero’s are likely to get elected into office. 

So, they recently won a war or battle of some kind for independence and are still coming up with their identity. They are very accepting of outside aid at the current moment (due to financial situations). It is also likely that they flourished during the World Championships and are in much better shape than when we first see them due to Wild Fang’s success.

Purposed Savannahian Stuff

National Animal: Lion (Hence the team name being Wild Fang since we see names being chosen for teams)

National Plant: Acacia Trees (The only large plants there we see)

National Languages: Swahili, Somali, Arabic, and English

Citizen’s Title: Savannahian

Exports: Agriculture (primarily livestock and fish) and Natural Resources (jewels)

The real heroes are the referees, because they have to stand in the middle of at least, I don’t know, ten explosive battles per day, then have to deal with whichever blader throws a tantrum at the outcome afterwards.
