It never occured to me that both timelines would become equally real, splintering reality in both directions, past and future. In using my power to bend reality to my will, I ensured that my choices-- my will, would begin to form new pocket realities with every whim. I have named the disease. But what is the cure?

love to see the watchmen stuff coming from you. i was working at the comic shop when doomsday clock and rorschach was coming out so i remember it pretty well :~) rorschach is my favorite character even though he's terrible. in every way. i kind of love him for it while dr manhattan is the worst guy ever. what are your thoughts
in a joking manner here r my thoughts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in all seriousness my favorite characters r probably laurie, dan and rorschach :) i want to pin adrian to a corkboard like a moth and study him. adrian himself isnt an interesting character (or atleast as interesting as the others) but lord his dynamics w others need to be put on trial i think there's so much shown potential there. comedian is interesting and manhattan is too i jut also hate them both w a burning passion. obviously both of them are insane parallels abt the lost of humanity due to trauma that is treated as the norm or seen as simply just "as things are" (u ever think abt how comedian was 16 when he joined the minutemen? the same age laurie was when she joined the crimebusters?)
love what happened w laurie in the hbo series. love the rorschach comics. complex emotions abt the movie its both insanely accurate yet also makes me wanna rip my hair out bc there are some choices there that are absolutely insane??? are you fucking kidding me???? WHY. WHY DID U DO THAT TO MANHATTAN AND LAURIE'S ARC. HATE IT HERE.
before watchmen is good. most of it is shit but what is good is amazing. i love the minutemen i love the lore established there. obviously we can't talk abt watchmen adaptations without acknowledging how DC fucked over alan moore and dave gibbons but like. i am happy to get more content that i get to pull apart and examine because lord knows we're never getting the same type of content other DC franchises get.
THE VIDEO GAME IS SO WEIRD THE FIRST CHAPTER OF IT IS FASCINATING. I LOVE IT. THE SECOND CHAPTER IS BULLSHIT. UGH.
if prompted i could give personal reviews abt everything that ive read/consumed w watchmen. like detailed reviews. i think abt it constantly.
i actually have a watchmen oc/self insert bc thats how i consume media his name is jeremiah and he is. well! he sure is.
i dont like how most of the fandom writes dan and rorschach as a romantic relationship. not because i don't think there's something insanely homoerotic going on i just don't think they're able to be a functional couple. they've never gotten married but have divorced 20 times and 18 of those were rorschach's fault. i think there's a lot of untouched dynamics going on w adrian and comedian but i think that's just the watchmen that's in my head.
AND UHHH if i were to ever be in charge or have influence in a watchmen series i think we need something that focuses on the time when crimebusters first formed up until the keenes act. i realize that's been touched on in the comic but i found a lot of before watchmen rlly neglected that. i want more detail on backstory. my friend says that dev patel would play a great dan and honestly i think we should see where that goes. need more dan media. idc if he's "boring". he's my favorite war criminal.

Quote
This is a deep theme of Moore’s Watchmen that Lindelof has mined and in some ways revealed — the tendency to imitate those who have victimized you, to identify with power. It’s what motivates Rorschach, after growing up in an environment of omnipresent abuse, to attempt to set the world right through torture and murder rather than counteracting it with compassion. It’s what allows Dr. Manhattan, even after receiving godlike powers, to remain the same kind of passive spectator in his own life that he was before the accident in the intrinsic field generator. And it’s what causes most readers, in turn, and against Moore’s apparent intentions, to identify with both characters instead of grasping the critique they embody.

Watchmen (2019)
Alternate History Roundtable
Tumblr media
What is the koinos kosmos (common world) and mutually assumed knowledge the series shares with viewers?
The show Watchmen (2019) is set in the universe of the comic with the same name but takes place 30 years later. The “koinos kosmos” is that due to having the superhero abilities of Dr. Manhattan the US was able to win the Vietnam War in one month and Nixon instead of being impeached became very popular and amends the constitution to allow presidents to run for more than two terms. He then remains president until the late 80s when Robert Redford was elected president. The show starts in 2019 and Robert Redford is still president. He is very liberal and has passed The Victims of Racial Violence Legislation which grants a lifetime of tax exemptions for victims and descendents of racial justice in America, known as “Redfordations”. This and his other liberal policies have led to more white supremacist backlash against these victims and a white supremacist group known as The Seventh Cavalry is at large in Tulsa, Oklahoma where the show takes place. The history of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 is central to the plot.
How does the series depict cultural hybridity through the altered history’s role in reflecting and reshaping cultural assumptions?
In the beginning of the first episode cultural hybridity occurs when the main character is showing her son’s class how to create a Vietnamese dish she learned how to make while living there. What starts out seeming just like any normal presentation in our world changes when the teacher asks her if she was born before or after Vietnam was made a state? In the background of this shot there is also a poster that states “Four Important Presidents” with Robert Redford and Nixon being the top two.
Tumblr media
The setting of an elementary school classroom is a great place to demonstrate the cultural hybridity as the cultural changes from the altered historical timeline are subtly showcased through the educational set design and questions asked.
How does the series depict the power of understanding world-creation?
A sacred “text” that is seminal to world creation in Watchmen similar to “Grasshopper'' in The Man in the High Castle, is the lore of the superhuman “Minuteman group” that was the originator of the events that led to Dr. Manhattan and the altered history of the Vietnam War. The influence of them is implemented in the show as a recurring motif via a made for TV special that dramatizes the story of the Minuteman through propaganda. Segments of the special are shown in the series via the TV or the audio serving as a narration for scenes of the present day masked vigilantes. Similar to TMITHC the world-creation being shown through the visual media demonstrates that “[w]what we understand to be ‘real’ or what ‘truly’ happened is determined by what and how we see, read, and hear”(212).
Tumblr media
In what ways do formulations of the past, present, and future engage with prospective realities of what might have been and what might be in the series’ alerted history?
The series focus on how the altered history impacts race relations in America is interesting because there are many different ways the show could have explored the previous Watchmen universe events on the future of that reality. By focusing on the Tulsa Race Riots, an event that occurred before Watchmen’s timeline got altered, the show is anchored with something canon in both of our realities. This makes the fictional white supremacy plotline of the show all the more real as it has roots in actual events. While the show is not meant to take place in the future, the altered world is still very “rooted in the present of its time of creation”. The show aired in 2019 fresh off of Republic president Trump where open displays of white supremacy took place often with things like “The Unite the Right” Rally. By focusing still on white supremacy in a universe where an extremely liberal president has been in place since the 70s the show demonstrates that racism is still a systemic part of the present and history of the US no matter the historical changes and liberal policies that have been enacted since the timeline changed.
How do multiple realities or contemplations of multiple realities merge with questions of authenticity?
Similar to TMITHC Watchmen also deals with, ‘“a litany of duplicities” within the reality that merge with questions of authenticity. In the first episode we meet the chief of police that is in charge of the task force against the white supremacist group The Seventh Cavalry.  The episode ends with him being found violently hung from a tree. While he and the main character who also works for the police (named Angela played by Regina King) were very close, someone at the murder scene calls into question the chief of police’s nature. Angela then investigates him and finds a Seventh Cavalry Klan hoodie in his closet.  This uncertainty and lack of authenticity within people who seemed on the right side initially flips the new reality of the world even more. Making it hard to know who is really who they say they are, and who the bad guys and villains really are. If even the chief of police who openly is against racism is secretly a white supremacist in this world that has a more liberal facade, then the authenticity of the cause and what people claim to champion is all called into question. @theuncannyprofessoro

Soo I'm back with some more watchmen headcanons! I submitted some more before but tbh I like the ones here more lol. Enjoy! I'm tempted to try to write some romantic Rorschach ones too, he's such a complicated character to think about when it comes to writing but it'd be a fun challenge to write him in a romantic context.
-I think Watchmen would have ended differently if platonic yandere Ozymandias took reader from the rest of the platonic yandere characters so they wouldn't have to be in New York when he enacts his plan? I don't know if Rorschach would've asked Dr Manhattan to kill him if he knew reader was being held against their will, and idk if Dr Manhattan would've left if he knew reader was in trouble too. Maybe there would be one final conflict between everybody?
-The original Silk Spectre and Nite Owl would definitely spoil the crap out of reader. I can see them both telling reader about their old days as heros
-The comedian would definitely want reader to know some of his old tricks, he'd definitely have the potential to be a horrible influence on them, which is definitely one of the main factors as to why Ozymandias killed him.
-I feel like even before Rorschach snapped after the kidnapping of the little girl, he'd still be pretty protective of reader. Nite owl would worry a lot about them, he'd be like a worrying mother lmao
-If the reader had superpowers, I could see that being a driving factor for Dr Manhattan being fascinated by them, for once he'd feel like he almost has an equal. I imagine the characters would be varying degrees of paranoid about reader's safety as a superpowered person. They wouldn't want to see reader be turned essentially into a government weapon like what happened with Dr Manhattan. Rorschach would probably have the most extreme reaction, he'd probably just straight up kidnap them and isolate them from the rest of the world "foR thEiR saFETy" because he's unstable like that and we all love him for it

I alluded to this in countless of my posts and it's a prediction I've had for awhile (and it's a prediction that truly scares me and it's uncomfortable) and one day I'm gonna finish the long post on my drafts about this but I need to get it out of my way, so let's do this:
The Duffers will parallel this speech (and the entire sequence before this, when her memories are unlocked, tbh) from Watchmen with Henry Creel (as Dr. Manhattan) and Will Byers (as Silk Spectre) in Season 5.

I think I've figured why these Before Watchmen™ stories all have issues.
eThey take themselves way too seriously hile focusing on the wrong things, they try to make everything a big, personal deal when the biggest deal for everyone was the original story.
Maybe it's cause Watchmen was a reflection of the time it was made while these are more "We need you guys to write whatever so we can keep the rights."
In Laurie's book, she and her mom roleplayed house invasions as training on top of the gymnastics and so on.
When in the original story, Laurie was just exasperated with the fact that she was groomed but was never at odds with her mom about it.
That photo that Dan has of the 'Vice Queen he put away' when asked about it he just seemed nervous cause yeah *something* happened.
Tumblr media
But in Before Watchmen™: Nite Owl, he has a thousand-yard stare presumably because that was the best sex of his life. She also left him for no understandable reason, but then in the End is Nigh game he and Rorschach end up killing her on accident but I think that's an alternate take.
Tumblr media
Also if Captain Metro's boyfriend and partner (Hooded Justice) was killed and he burned the body, why would he ever try to make a new team?
Moloch in the original was a ghoulish looking old person, but he looked okay considering his condition. In his story he looks like a gremlin man and is also compared to Jesus.
Dr. Manhattan's story doesn't even happen before the original story.
The idea that Rorschach first killed as a child (on purpose), instead of just being a victim of his circumstances with mental issues that pushed him towards violence as an adult.
And this isn't going into how much almost every author downplays how messed up The Comedian is.

Watchmen Issue By Issue: The Darkness of Mere Being
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy people. The clock ticks down closer to midnight as I continue my retrospective of the watchmen going over it issue by issue. And after two issues that while not bad felt more like moving the plot along, we have one final issue of introspection before we enter the final fourth of the story and go full steam ahead toward armageddon.
LAST TIME ON WATCHMEN: Laurie and Dan busted Love Shach out of prison. He was graceful and curtious and ...
Tumblr media
Yeah he was an ungreatful back of dicks inside a neat outfit as always. But as the Police Planned to storm Dan's apartment, Dr. Manhattan returned to grab Laurie for some mysterious reason... and wasted their time chasing Dan and Shacha Escaped Con while across town Hollis Mason sadly died in one of the saddest fucking scenes in the comic
Tumblr media
I mean I was a bit hard on the cops, i get Dan broke a man out of prison, but frankly the prison population would be down to zero by thursday if he hadn't. You have to at least give him that
So that brings us to "The Darkness of Mere Being" our final issue, if I remember right, going into a characters backstory. This one though harkens back to "Absent Friend" Where ther'es both copius flashbacks and an important present day storyline
In this case Laurie is trying to convince Jon to save humanity. And I didn't even realize till I started writing that this whole conversation between the two.. was foreshadowed in issue ONE
Tumblr media
Obviously Dr. Manhattn isn't ghost written by tucker carlson, but the same scenario happened: The world's problems backed up on itself and when it begs for a savior, the savior whispers back "No". Jon is tired of us fucking ourselves over and is ready to just watch the natural phenomina of mars in peace.
It dosne't help that his sense of time means to him this conversation ends with Laurie in tears apparently leaving. To him this is a formality: he's having the conversation because to him it already happens. He casually brings up Laurie sleeping with Dan, only to say she'll tell him later.. then acts shocked and betrayed when it does because it's the part he plays. To John Ostrander fate isn't just a concept, it's fact. It's who he is. As he puts to Laurie in one of the best lines of the entire comic, another one tha'ts been quoted nonstop for good reason:
Tumblr media
It explains why Jon can be so cold and detached : Why care about humanity.. when the first woman you truly loved will be someone you cheat on and leaves you and the scond will also leave you because they can never really understand you. I can't blame either woman mind you, but to Jon he's just stuck and has just accepted that things will happen. He can't fight it, he can't stop it he just has to go with it and has moved on from it, finding the pleasures in the splendeor of mars and leaving humanity to it.
And admist this though.. is something that reawakens his humanity. We get flashbacks summing up Laurie's life that helped me like her slightly more as a character: We see her as a small child watching her parents marriage crumble with the clear implication Sally slept with the comedian.. before her soon to be ex step father beats poor Sally. We see Sally train to become the next silk spectre and get a hint that something far worse happened to her mom. We see her hit it off with the comedian as friends before her mom yanks her away assuming he has bad plans for her.. which.. fair. I mean he just wants to see his daughter. And finally we see her throw a drink in the assholes face.
All these pieces add up to one hell of a reveal, but one that had small hints as early as issue 2: Eddie.. was Laurie's father. Back in issue 2 it was clear Sally forgave him.. but now we see just how much. It's supremley fucked up and leads to said tears... and once again shows our heroes as puppets. Laurie tried her best to say fuck you to fate all issue, trying to stop the conversation multiple times or fight anyway.. but in the end she coudln't. All she can do is cry realizing she's the daughter of two people hse hates: an attempted rapist and serial murderer and the woman who somehow loved him despite all that, the woman who pushed Laurie where she is now.
And yet despite again being hall of fame fucked up and one hell of a twist.. it also leads to a truly beautiful moment. One of the most beautiful moments in all of comics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a simple, powerful message: We all are miracles. It took a billion things going right to get us here, a billion more for everything to get where we are...and yet we are. We may screw up, we may fuck up constantly but we are still here. We matter. And we are not alone. Next Time: I"m too busy crying we'll see won't we? Thanks for reading.

Interested to hear your thoughts on how Alucard’s post-Schrodinger abilities work. Because Schrodinger could obviously travel about fully-clothed (thank god) and even brought that monitor with him to let The Major speak to the Council. So my thought process is that Alucard should be able to bring objects with him. But what about people? What would the effects of that be and what might it be like for the person he “teleports” with?
Well, even pre-Schroedinger, Alucard was able to be physically reduced to nothing and manifest from nothing while keeping objects. I'll grant that his clothing could be part of his anthropomorphic shape, but we KNOW the guns are real. Empty clips and shells remain, and Walter built Jackal himself. He probably built the Casull as well. I DON'T think he can teleport people, even post Schro. I don't suppose I have any rationale for that that is based in reality, but I believe he basically passes through timespace because he simultaneously exists, and doesn't exist, if we're talking about the proper definition of Schrodinger's cat, which allows him to be "everywhere and nowhere", as Hirano puts it. I'm not sure if that's a deliberate liberty on Hirano's part, or if the literal meaning got lost in translation. And I don't think a human body could follow him through spacetime. What I think would happen would essentially be what happened to Jon Osterman's body in The Watchmen, when he gets trapped in the chamber.
It could likely be broken down on a molecular level, maybe resulting in death but what if it just disembodied the spirit? Or if the disembodied spirit got stuck somewhere in the void of spacetime?
I know what I want my superpower to be What the fuck would the Round Table do if they ended up with a Dr. Manhattan situation?
I like to think Alucard would take these things into consideration before trying it. Try it on an enemy first, y'know?
Or Boris Johnson. I'm sure he'll still be alive in 2030.

8. Alan Scott and Jay Garrick, please.
Love it! Gotchu!
BRINK OF DESTRUCTION
Jay could feel it before he saw it- a pulse, a strong electric charge running through his body. It was like the speed force only Jay wasn’t running. He turned to look around him and everyone else seemed to be feeling something too. Alan- who had been looking at paper’s on his desk- looked straight ahead out the window of the his office in the Brownstone.
That’s when it happened. The flash. A massive pulse of white hot light flashed across the sky coming at them.
Jay didn’t even think. He ran straight for Alan, grabbed him, and pulled him away from the approaching light. Even for Jay the explosion was coming quickly: he could feel the heat on his back as he grabbed Alan. He didn’t know what this was but someone somewhere had made a horrible mistake and hit the button. Jay felt a sinking suspicion that this was the end. He pulled Alan into a tight hug in a futile attempt to protect him from the blast then-
It stopped. Jay could still feel the heat on his back but it was no longer approaching. He looked at Alan. Alan’s face was stern, deep in concentration. That’s when Jay noticed the ring shining a brilliant green ray that surrounded the explosion. Alan pulled away from Jay and moved closer to the window. Focusing his energy: he pushed the explosion back to its epicenter and it winked out of existence.
“What the hell was that?” Jay asked.
“An explosion,” Alan answered. “But it wasn’t a bomb. It was a pulse.”
“What do you think caused it?”
“Let’s go find out.”
A few moments later they were flying above Time Square and looking down at the rotted remains of an alien squid. Jay was confused but Alan scoffed.
“Who watches the Watchmen.” Alan said.
“What?” Jay asked.
“We’ve fought aliens before. They don’t just fall out the sky,” Alan said. “Someone made this. And if I had to guess: I’d say that the pulse came from tachyon particles.”
“But that would mean-“
“Either Adrian Voidt or Dr. Manhattan took their god complexes a bit too far.” Alan said. “It’s time to call the others. We’re going to pay a little visit to the government masks.”
