The guild hall was busy, as per usual for FairyTail. Everyone was either drinking or trying to bite each other’s heads off. But today, today was different because you had accepted a job that had everyone questioning your sanity.
“Are you insane?!”
Laxus’s voice boomed over the guild hall causing heads to turn in your direction. It wasn’t the first time Laxus had apposed to you going on a dangerous job, but this time he seemed adamant on you staying.
“What’s the big deal, Y/n’s a dragon slayer like us she’ll be fine,” Natsu voiced, offering you a cheeky grin. But Laxus only stared him down before saying,
“No one asked you fire head, now get lost. This discussion has nothing to do with you.”
“And it has nothing to do with you either, Laxus.”
You finally spoke, irritated that everyone suddenly had an opinion on what jobs you could take. Even Cana was a bit unsure on whether you should take it, but a quick look at her cards kept her quiet. For now. Natsu laughed, his head shaking as he took a few steps back and headed back down towards the ground floor of the guild hall. Leaving you and Laxus a moment to talk. You could already tell where this was going, Laxus would talk about how you wouldn’t know what you were up against until it was too late or that there are much stronger people out there. Though he never called you weak, the words he used always left you assuming that's how he viewed you.
Both of you stayed quiet, letting the air between you grow thick. You wanted to ask him why he cared, why he bothered to argue against you all the time and why it bothered him so much but every time the question came to your lips, you brushed it away. Laxus clenched his jaw before breaking his silence.
"Did you lose a bet or something? is that the reason why you're taking the job?"
"No I didn't lose a bet," you spat back, annoyed that he would even suggest something so childish.
"Then why are you taking it? it's probably the closest thing to an S-Class quest on the board how did the old man even approve of this."
You could feel it, the surge of power in your body as you fisted your hands. Every time, Laxus was like this every time and it started to get on your nerves. Just let me do what I need to you wanted to tell him. But Laxus wouldn't understand, he was an S-Class Wizard already, considered one of the strongest of Fairytail. You were just the weird shadow dragon slayer who felt like she had to constantly prove herself.
"I don't get why you're getting yourself worked up over this, it was an available job and I took it. Master Makarov approved it this morning with no hesitation.”
“That old man has no sense.”
“He—you know what,” you huffed, annoyed that you felt like you had to explain yourself to him. Time and time again, it was like you had to prove your worth but not this time. This time you were going into that job with a clear head. You didn’t have time to waste.
“Forget it Laxus, I don’t have the energy for this.”
You turned your back to him, your hair swishing with the action but before you could take your first step towards the stairs, a light touch gripped your wrist and stopped you from walking away. You half turned, looking at the hand that felt so warm on your skin, then up to the man who held you in place.
"Don't go," Laxus said softly, his green eyes meeting yours. All you could do was hold you breath, not sure on what to say. You couldn't stay, not when you already accepted the job but most importantly, there was no reason to not go. You pulled your arm back and to your surprise, Laxus let go.
"I leave in an hour."
That was all you said before you made your way downstairs, this time Laxus didn't stop you. As you left him behind, you swore you felt electricity in the air. I could do this job you kept telling yourself, but you couldn't lie. You were nervous, because what if this went wrong? what if you failed and proved Laxus right? Would he hold this over you?
****
After you left, Laxus sat by the bar drinking away by himself. He didn't speak a word to anyone, only to Mira who he ordered from. Not even Natsu's provoking could get him to turn around.
"I don't get it, don't you believe y/n's strong enough to handle it?"
Natsu wasn't giving up so easily. He knew your strength, had fought along side you plenty of times he had seen what you were capable of. Even Laxus had, though you didn't know it. Laxus had always been aware of the power that you had, he just never had to guts to say anything to you. Laxus sipped at his drink, the frothy ale tickling his lips as tried to ignore the horrible images of you getting hurt that his mind kept imagining for him.
"Well, whatever your deal is, she's gunna prove just how powerful she is you just watch. She'll come back in a few days with her reward, a few scraps and bruises sure but she'll be back."
I should've gone with her Laxus thought to himself. Why didn't I go with her?
The first day went by, then the second then the third. With each day that passed Laxus grew more irritable, more so than his usual self. And he seemed to blame one person for his anger.
"This is all your fault old man."
Makarov stirred the spoon in his cup of tea, choosing not to reply at Laxus's outburst. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong, it had been five days you should've been back by now.
"How could you let her take the job?"
"Y/n is more than capable of handling it. I have no doubt she's succeed in her mission and is returning already."
As if by some sick coincidence, Erza came bursting through the doors of the guild hall, Gray and Natsu just behind her. What the? any curiosity Laxus had turned to panic when he saw who Natsu and Gray were carrying.
"Wendy! where's Wendy?" Erza called out, everyone from the guild seemed to freeze but Laxus... Laxus rushed past the crowd, pushing away Freed, Elfman and even Gray and Natsu.
"Y/n..." he breathed out your name, taking you into his arms. You made no sound, and you breaths were raged. Bruises and cuts covered your body. No. No. No.
"What happened?" He barked at the fellow dragon slayer.
"I have no idea, she was down when we found her. Look like whatever she had to fight really took it out of her, I barely sensed any magical energy from her."
Stay with me. Please y/n, stay with me. That was all Laxus could think of as he held you close, carrying you all the way to the infirmary. he looked down at you, how you appeared to be so fragile and small.
"Why didn't you listen," he said under his breath, wishing he could go back in time to stop whatever it was you were up against.
****
Laxus stayed by your side for two days, and it took a lot of Wendy's healing magic to get you breathing properly again. The job was a suicide mission, but you gave it your all. Even if it almost cost you your life. With struggle, you turned your head and ever so slowly opened your eyes. Immediately you saw the head of blonde hair across from you, noted the closed eyes and the soft snores that came from his lips.
"Laxus," you croaked, your voice raw from screaming. His eyes fluttered open, confused by the voice he had heard until he saw you. A weak smile on your face, head bandaged. Laxus shot up from his seat, almost falling to the floor to get to your bedside.
"You're awake."
He seemed dumbfounded, and just when you wanted to reply Laxus did something you never thought he'd ever do. He dropped to his knee's, took hold of one of your hands and placed it to his cheek.
"I'm so glad you're awake."
There was a strange swell in your heart, one you never thought would be created by Laxus of all people. You continued to smile softly, letting your fingers stroke his cheek.
"I'm sorry I—I'm sorry I failed."
You could barely get the words out from your mouth before humiliation filled your chest. You had fought so hard, but in the end you came away with nothing. You were sent to deal with a dark guild after all, alone. And you had failed.
"What?"
Laxus couldn't believe what you had said to him, and as his green eyes took you in he felt ashamed that he might have caused that doubt in you.
"Y/n, you haven't failed. You're alive—"
"You were right, I couldn't handle it. I should've—I should've listened to you"
Laxus laughed to himself. No matter how badly he'd wanted to hear you say it, it felt wrong. He sighed, placing a kiss on top your hand that send a wave of butterflies into your stomach.
"No y/n, you shouldn't listen to me. I was wrong, I've always been wrong to think you'd be anything but capable of handling things on your own. I just wish I could've been there to protect you."

The Usual
Neither of them knew how they ended up in this situation. One moment she was yelling at him for sneaking into her house, as usual. Then they began sparring, as usual. And now they found themselves on the couch, Natsu’s lips capturing hers, Lucy’s hands cupping his cheeks, which was not usual at all.
It was a soft kiss, neither of them really sure of what they were supposed to be doing with their mouths. They pulled away, pressing their foreheads together. The two stayed like that for a while, eyes closed, basking in the realization of what had just happened.
Lucy slowly opened her eyes and, just as she was about to speak, Happy flew in through the open window in her apartment.
“Lucy! Did you get any fish for me?”
Both Natsu and Lucy jumped at the sound of the exceed’s voice, scrambling to opposite ends of the couch so as to not raise any suspicion on what they had been doing less than a minute ago.
“Hey, buddy!” Natsu said a little too enthusiastically, his voice an octave higher than normal. “I thought you were hanging out with Carla.”
“Yeah, but I wanted to give her my fish and then I realized I actually ate it on the way to the guild, so I’m looking for another one.” He explained as he made his way to Lucy’s pantry.
“You already ate the fish I saved you.” Lucy called out, trying to hide her still reddened cheeks.
“What? Lucy~, that’s why I tell you to keep a bunch of them in the pantry!”
“I’m not saving any more of your stinky fish!” She got up and started pushing both of them towards the front door. “If you want more then go fishing and stop annoying me!”
The blonde slammed the door on their faces, leaning her head on it and letting her body slide down onto the floor. She normally didn’t mind their company, as much as she constantly berated them for invading her personal space, but today she needed to be alone in order to process what the hell had just happened.
The days following the incident were… weird. Lucy started avoiding Natsu like the plague. She dreaded going to the guild out of fear that she might run into him. And when she did inevitably run into him, she would make up a quick excuse as to why she couldn’t go on missions with him or sit with him to eat. The dragon slayer hadn’t sneaked into her place after that day either, which should have been a relief for the blonde, but it just made her feel like he thought what happened between them had been a mistake.
But what right did she have to feel this way? She was the one who continued to run away from him, too afraid of what might happen if they got the chance to be alone together. And now, she was all by herself in her apartment, deciding to focus on her novel instead of trying to go to the guild for a futile game of hide and seek like she had been doing all week. Except that this wasn’t working either. Every time she tried to write words on the paper, her mind went back to Natsu and that day. The way his lips felt against her own—chapped but sweet, the way his hands felt on top of her hips, how his wild hair smelled of-
Lucy flinched at the sound of someone knocking on her door. She jumped out of her desk chair and quickly opened the entrance to her apartment, not really caring who was behind the door as long as they could make her think of something other than her best friend’s lips.
“Hey, Lu!” As soon as the door opened, Levy jumped on the blonde, hugging her tight.
“Hey… everyone. What are you guys doing here?” Still a bit flustered from her earlier thoughts, Lucy hugged Levy back as she glanced up to see Cana, Juvia, Erza, Mira, and Lisanna all standing in her doorway.
“We thought today would be a perfect day for a girls’ night!” Mira explained as she and the other girls made themselves comfortable in Lucy’s home.
Lucy smiled softly. A girls’ night was just what she needed to clear her head, even if it was unexpected.
Or so she thought.
Not even ten minutes after her friends’ arrival, Cana exposed the real reason why they had suddenly come to visit. “So, Lucy, did something happen between you and Natsu?”
“Cana!” Levy smacked her arm as the other girls looked at the brunette with wide eyes.
“What? Might as well just come out and ask instead of beating around the bush.”
The blonde’s face glowed red as she hurriedly denied her friend’s question. “No! No no no, everything’s fine! W-why do you ask?”
“Please. We all notice how weird you’ve been acting lately. You run away if you see even a glimpse of pink hair.”
Lucy looked down. Maybe she should tell them what happened. She’s not used to talking about her feelings, normally just shoving them down and distracting herself by writing or going on a mission. But none of those distractions seemed to be working right now. And most of her friends had much more experience in this department than her, surely they would know what to do. Plus, she trusted these girls with her life.
“Natsu and I… we, we kissed… last week.” She muttered, still looking down. Part of her hoped they didn’t hear her but, alas, they did.
There was a resounding “WHAT?” from all of her guests and Lucy simply nodded, still too afraid to look up.
“Oh my God! Pay up, guys!” Cana jumped up, thrusting her open palm in front of Mira’s face.
“I really thought it would take them years.” Mirajane grumbled as she took out some rolled up jewels from her cleavage and handed them to the brunette. Both Lisanna and Erza also stood up and begrudgingly gave Cana their money.
“Juvia knew it was coming. They’ve been flirting more and more these days.” Said the water mage with a smug grin as Cana divided the bills with her and Levy.
“Wait, what?” Lucy finally looked up indignantly, “You guys made a bet about this?”
“Of course. We all know you two idiots are in love. You’re the last ones to realize it.” Cana shrugged as she sat down again.
“We’re not in love.” Lucy responded, but even she knew it was a weak protest.
“How did it happen? Who kissed who? Was it like you expected your first kiss to go?” Levy jumped from question to question excitedly.
“I don’t even know. We sat down on the couch after a sparring match and we were just playing around and then…” She trailed off.
“Did you like it?” Erza spoke up for the first time.
“...Yes?” Lucy responded after a while and groaned after she saw her friends’ cheeky smiles, burying her face in her hands.
“If you liked it so much, then why do you keep running away from him?” Asked Cana.
“I don’t know,” The blonde mumbled, face still buried in her hands before she moved to hug her knees instead, “Things are just… weird right now. I don’t know what I want, or what he wants.”
“Well, do you see yourself in a relationship with him?” Mira asked softly.
This got Lucy thinking. Ever since she was little, she had always fantasized about marrying her Prince Charming. Someone who was elegant, classy, a gentleman on all counts. But, after meeting Natsu, somehow the idea of that Prince Charming started fading away from her mind until there was no trace of it left. Now, whenever she thought about the one person she wanted to spend forever with, the only things she could envision were wide, warm smiles and pink hair. She never spent too much time thinking about what it could all mean, too afraid of what she might find if she dug deep enough in her heart. But the truth always found its way to the surface.
“I do.” She admitted in a whisper, more to herself than the people around her. “I want us to be together forever.”
“Then, what are you so afraid of? Go and talk to him.”
“I can’t. What if he doesn’t feel the same way? I don’t think he’s interested in relationships. And even if he was, he’s my best friend. I would never want to do anything that could jeopardize that.”
This time, Lisanna interjected. “Luce, I’ve known Natsu for a long time. I probably know him better than he knows himself in certain ways. I can assure you, the boy is head over heels for you. And I’m not the only one who sees it.” The other girls made gestures of agreement and Lisanna chuckled.
“You’re missing out on what could potentially be a beautiful thing because you’re scared of the what-ifs. Yes, maybe along the line something happens and you guys break up. But, maybe you don’t and you get to grow old together. You’ll never know unless you try. Life is all about risks and I know you’re brave enough to take them. I’ve seen you do it.”
Mira’s speech almost brought tears to Lucy’s eyes. She was right-- as she usually was about everything. If Lucy was able to leave everything behind at seventeen to become a mage and get through countless adversities in her way, even when all odds were against her, what’s stopping her from confronting a boy?
“No matter what happens, we will always be a team.” Erza added, and it was just the validation Lucy needed to make her mind up.
“Thank you, guys. Really. And you’re right. I need to stop running away and just talk to him.”
———
Today was the day. After going over everything the Strauss sisters had said to her in the mirror to gain courage, Lucy took a deep breath and made her way towards the guild.
As soon as she opened the grand doors, she was met with the familiar ruckus of Fairy Tail; chairs being thrown in the air, groups of people singing while drunk-- Cana being the most notable of all, of course. People yelling out what missions they were planning on taking to Mira, and what seemed to be a crowd of people cheering on a fight. She smiled. As much as Lucy loved peace and quiet, there was something so comforting about all the chaos that went on inside the guild. It felt like home.
Only when she got closer did the celestial mage notice that the people who were fighting were none other than Natsu and Gray. Gajeel seemed eager to join the fight from where he stood in the crowd, but he was being pulled back and chastised by Levy.
Rolling her eyes, Lucy squeezed her way through the group until she was standing on the front row. “Natsu, Gray! You better stop before Erza sees you.”
The threat fell on deaf ears, the two mages too entranced on beating each other up to even notice the presence of their friend. Sighing, Lucy made her way to where the two of them stood. Before either of the boys could process what was happening, Lucy grabbed their heads and crushed them together. The hollering crowd instantly went silent and slowly dispersed, knowing not to cross the blonde when she was in one of those moods.
“What the fuck, Lucy!” Cried out Gray as he rubbed the injured area.
Deciding there were more important matters at hand, Lucy ignored him and turned to Natsu who was also rubbing his head until he noticed the girl looking at him. He straightened up with wide eyes.
Before he could say anything though, Lucy hurriedly asked, “Can you come over for dinner later?” Knowing that if she didn’t ask now she would lose all the courage she worked so hard to build.
The question seemed to throw Natsu off. He sent a panicked look at Gray, as if questioning whether he heard her right, and answered after a few seconds. “S-sure! I’ll be there.”
———
Lucy decided to leave the guild early not only to make the food, but to mentally prepare for what was about to happen.
She was going to ask Natsu how he felt. And she had no idea what to expect. The boy had never been good with words or expressing himself, his thoughts always a mystery to whoever he was around. Perhaps if she hadn’t kicked him out of the apartment after their kiss and avoided him every day since then, she would have an idea of what was going on through his mind. But it’s too late for regret now.
Just as she finished setting up the small table, she heard someone knocking at her door. Taking a deep breath, Lucy opened the door to find her pink-haired partner scratching the back of his neck, a soft blush dusting his cheeks. Part of her was afraid he was going to fly in through the window with Happy, but she was glad to see he understood that she wanted them to talk alone.
“Natsu.” She breathed, suddenly at a loss for words.
“Hey, Luce.” He gave her one of his signature big smiles, but Lucy noticed that it didn’t reach his eyes. He seemed… nervous. She never thought Natsu was capable of feeling that emotion.
They stood awkwardly on the doorway for a few seconds before Lucy realized it was her turn to speak.
“C-come in! I made some of that spicy chicken you really like.” She looked down at the floor as she opened the door wider so he could pass.
“Thanks!” He chirped as he sat down on one of the dining chairs.
Lucy gulped. The entire speech she rehearsed over and over again had completely been erased from her mind the moment she saw him.
This was going to be a long night.
———
Once again, Lucy had no idea how they ended up like this. Dinnertime had been very awkward, the two of them eating silently for the most part, making small talk every once in a while, both of them too afraid to mention the elephant in the room. But, somehow, they had gone from barely talking at each other, to making a bet on who would win a sparring match. Even in the most difficult situations, Natsu always found a way to wreak havoc. And Lucy found a strange sense of comfort in that.
At first, the blonde was hesitant on accepting the bet, still feeling the discomfort of all the things left unsaid. But, when Natsu sent a Fire Dragon Iron Fist her way, breaking her favorite vase as she ducked, she decided to make good use of her Fleuve D’étoiles. After a few minutes of going back and forth, Lucy pretended to point at something surprising behind Natsu, which gave her the opportunity to wrap her whip around Natsu’s ankle when he looked back and tug him until he collapsed on the ground. The oldest and cheapest trick in the book, Lucy knew, but a win was a win. Honestly, she was more surprised that it had actually worked.
She unwrapped the whip from Natsu’s ankle and placed it gently on her desk. The dragon slayer was still laying flat on the floor, so Lucy decided to lay down next to him. She sighed as she felt all the tension she had been feeling lately leave her body. It had only been a week but she had seriously missed being around her best friend. It didn’t matter to her what they were, she just wanted to be with him. That was enough for her.
“Now my face is all red.” She muttered as she pressed her hands to her cheeks.
“I like your face.” Natsu mumbled and, as they both whipped their heads to look at each other with wide eyes, Lucy realized that he was just as surprised by what had come out of his mouth as she was. “I, I mean your face is cool! I-it’s nice. Even when it’s all red and sweaty like now.”
Lucy raised an eyebrow at his poor attempt to save himself but made no effort to stop him.
“But not only your face!” He continued, “Gray told me you should never just talk about a girl’s appearance.” He grumbled, as if upset he had broken some sort of special rule and Lucy could not stop her amused smile. “Like, yeah, your face is nice, but you are also nice! And smart. And I like how I feel when we hang out. Ugh, what am I saying?” He turned his face towards the ceiling again and covered it with his hands.
It took everything in Lucy’s power to not burst out laughing right then and there. Was Natsu… confessing? She had never seen him so flustered. Ever. Normally, that was her thing. She had to admit, it was nice being on the other end every once in a while. All this time, she tried her hardest to muster up the courage to talk to him, trying to convince herself that things would be fine even if he didn’t feel the same way and now here he was, making a fool out of himself in the most heartwarming way Lucy could have asked for.
After a couple moments of silence, Lucy finally decided to speak up with newfound confidence.
“... I like your face too. Just so you know.”
Natsu dropped his hands from his face and whipped his head to look at Lucy. She raised her eyebrows, hoping he would understand exactly what she meant. She knew he understood by the way his lips slowly formed a giddy smile, one to match hers. Without the need for any more words, they both turned to look at the ceiling as their hands found their way to each other’s, fingers entangling.
This definitely wasn’t the usual for them, but maybe it was time for a new normal.

100 Headcanon Challenge: Natsu Dragneel
Zeref named Natsu. His parents didn’t have a name for Natsu when he was born, but Zeref said his name should be Natsu, because his pink hair reminded him of the summer.
Natsu was born on November 24
Natsu was a totally mama’s boy
Natsu actually behaviors a lot like his mother when she was younger
Natsu wasn’t in school when his village was destroyed, but Zeref was. Everyday his mother would send Natsu to the school to bring Zeref his lunch.
Natsu had trouble pronouncing words when he was young, so he didn’t really talk. He didn’t need too anyway, Zeref was always there to do the talking for him.
Natsu is eight (8) years younger than Zeref
When the dragon destroyed his village, and when he died sorry, Natsu was four (4)
The Tartaros demons were actually created to keep END (Natsu) safe, they were basically his babysitters
Natsu was actually taken from Zeref against his will, Natsu
Igneel thought it was the only way to defeat Acnologia, but when Natsu wouldn’t stop crying for Zeref, he used a spell to erase Natsu’s memory
Igneel did his best to teach Natsu how to read and write in the modern language, but Natsu didn’t really understand
Igneel celebrated Natsu’s birthday on January 1, because he didn’t know Natsu’s birthday
Igneel was a good, patient, father towards Natsu
Natsu knows how to hunt and get clean water, so he actually survived on his own for a while before joining Fairy Tail
After Natsu joined Fairy Tail he came out of his shell a bit
He had to be re-taught how to use a fork
He once cried because Mira hammered him so hard about how dragons were extinct and Igneel wasn’t real-It’s one of her biggest regrets
Natsu got very upset when people asked him about his birth parents, so people eventually stopped asking
It was very hard for Natsu to start calling Fairy Tail his family, but he did after he got hurt on one of his missions and was relieved when he woke up in the infirmary
Natsu’s ears are pierced because Mirajane used a piercing gun while he was in the infirmary
Natsu loved making flower crowns with Levy, and they once teamed up with Cana and Lisanna to make a flower banner for Makarov on his birthday-Makarov kept the banner until the flowers died
Natsu made Happy’s middle name “Dragon”
Natsu and Happy went to tea parties with Levy for a long time
Natsu used to take singing lessons for Mirajane. Meaning that he would sing songs with Lisanna and Elfman and then Mira would demand that he pay her
Natsu is actually an incredible singer though
Gray found out the hard way that Natsu should not be tickled
Natsu also started learning how to cook for himself after Happy hatched
Natsu is pretty good at grilling and cooking with spices, but Happy likes to eat fish raw, so he mostly cooks for himself
Natsu and Lisanna loved going to the hill they raised Happy’s egg on, even after his hatch
After Lisanna’s “death”, Natsu stopped going to the guild all together for a few months
Mirajane and Elfman felt that he blamed them for her being gone, so he finally talked to them and told them he didn’t blame them
Given his forgiveness, Mirajane began to put on a nicer persona because she wanted to keep a part of Lisanna alive
Natsu doesn’t normally drink coffee, but when he does, he only drinks pure black coffee
Natsu hoards candy like a dragon hoards jewels, especially on Halloween
He refuses to share candy with anybody, not even Happy
Natsu has freckles
In his END form, Natsu’s hair bleaches white because of the lack of nutrients
Natsu is very protective of Wendy, and calls himself her big brother
Natsu has ADD and Aspergers Syndrome
Natsu can, and has, picked up his entire team at once
Natsu almost always falls asleep when he takes a bath, so he has to take showers
Even then, Happy has found him asleep in the shower a multitude of times-Natsu calls himself and the other Dragonslayers “the Dragonfam”-They all actually like it, no one but Wendy and Sting will admit it
Natsu had a crush on Laxus, you can NOT convince me otherwise
Natsu is overprotective of people he loves because he’s terrified of losing someone the same way he was forced to watch Igneel get killed by Acnologia
Once the heater in the guild broke, which resulted everyone fighting over who gets to snuggle next to Natsu because of his naturally high body temperature
Gender is an abstract concept to dragons, so Natsu doesn’t have a strong sense of gender roles
Dragon Force is unique to each dragon slayer, and each time their power triples, the slayer gets more dragon-like characteristics
When Natsu first discovered Dragon Force, during the ToH arc, his face and arms had scales, but other than that he was the same
As Natsu grows more powerful, he develops sharper fangs, his pupils turn to slits, which allow him to see heat signatures, his hair turns a darker pink, almost red, as do his scales (see his transformation in the Dragon Cry movie)
Natsu got tables thrown at him while the guild watched Titanic because he yelled “Get to the sinking boat!” at the screen
Levy taught Natsu about space, and ever since, he’s been obsessed with it
Natsu is allergic to bees
Give Natsu a bunch of sugar and he can’t calm down until he gets knocked out
Lucy really loves Natsu’s cooking, even though it gets really spicy
Most people like Natsu’s cooking, even if it’s extremely spicy
Natsu enjoys missions that envolve finding/taking care of animals
Natsu’s nails grow really fast, and he has to clip them almost every other day
His hair grows really fast too
Natsu enjoys doctor visits because he always gets a lollipop afterwards
Natsu has gone with Erza to get a manicure before, and he liked it
Given the chance, Natsu loves lazy days spent napping and fishing
Natsu has been arrested multiple times
Sorcerer Weekly has constantly asked Natsu which Fairy Tail Lady he’d like to date, but he’s never given a clear answer
Natsu is definitely MLM
Natsu loves memes, okay
Legends say that if Gray Fullbuster says the word iced, shell, or death in the same sentence Natsu Dragneel will appear and proceed to beat him up
Team Natsu has had to share a bed before, a single bed
I’m 100% sure that Natsu has dimples when he smiles
Natsu definitely eats cereal for dinner when he doesn’t want to cook
Natsu prefers baths over showers, but he really enjoys long, hot, bubble baths
Natsu has fangs, regularly
Look, Natsu is a chaotic dumbass, but he means well
Natsu can’t drink straight, black coffee, it has to be sweet
Natsu definitely needed to get an artificial arm after the war with Zeref, okay? His arm was literally showing the muscle underneath
Natsu looks really good with long hair, and he’d keep it, but he doesn’t like it in his face and is too lazy to learn how to tie it back
Let’s be honest, Natsu probably has a dragon tattoo on his back in memory of Igneel
If fusion magic is/was a thing in the FT universe, the first person Natsu would want to try to fuse with would be Gray - You can’t tell me otherwise
Natsu with an eyebrow piercing, not a head canon, but think about it
Look, Natsu is definitely a contortionist, okay, he is super fucking flexible
One time, someone threw a chair at him and he bent backwards to dodge it, and everyone thought he broke his back
Natsu is a cuddler, and when he wants cuddles he will pounce - Luckily for him, a lot of girls in the guild (like Mira) think its cute so they cuddle with him
Natsu is very likely to go to the hospital for a stupid reason when its not caused from a mission gone south

Impressive
The bar was dead and there was really no reason for the two of them to both be on shift.
That's what Kinana told Mirajane that late afternoon, the hour teetering on evening, as they both, mostly, sat idly by. It was the rush before S-Class and, well, most everyone was off attempting to impress the new master. A tall order, considering who he was.
Laxus sat there in his mostly empty hall, sipping at beer and giving glares to any who dared to still hang around, rather than snatch up one of the final jobs that were tacked up on the board. It would be the first time he got to do it. Pick and test those in the guild. His guild.
As those probably not very worthy worried over what it would mean, to be picked, those who were certain over being picked fretted over just what demented things Master Laxus might subject them. It was a frightening time, all around.
Except, of course, for those who already received the highest honor in the guild. Mirajane and Erza. The latter was off, anyways, as she had been for a month, on an S-Class job, while the former seemed somewhat bored, as she always did, when the hall was so empty.
"You'll have a chance," Lisanna told her with a grin as she set out with Elfman, "to have the house to yourself. And the hall, practically."
"You can finally scrap the gum off the bottom of the tables," her brother offered helpfully and they were both grinning because they were getting to go off, on a job usually out of their talent level, but to impress the new master? They'd smash it. Definitely. Well, hopefully.
There were benefits in what they were saying, of course. Having the Strauss house, her house, to herself, would be very nice. And when the hall was so empty, she wasn't rushing all about mindlessly and tiredly attempting to keep order in the chaotic setting. Meal times were relentless and, recently, as the cold set in, everyone was staying in doors more, drinking to keep warm.
But for a moment, there was a reprieve and she should enjoy it, the woman knew. Yes. A calm before the storm that was everyone returning, all at once, packing the hall in hopes of their names being called out above the others. Considering the conciseness of this list, there would inevitably be hurt feelings, sulking, and drunken bar fights late into the evening.
It was, to say the least, a busy time for her.
So she should be soaking up the peace currently being gifted to her.
Kinana explained as much as they both stood behind the bar together, the older woman sighing some as she wiped down the counter top. The younger was all smiles though as she insisted that, if one of them had to waste their day away up there, then she would gladly fall on the sword.
"You deserve some time off," Kinana offered gently and Mirajane returned her grin, but it was with a slight shake of her head as well.
"No, you go," the Takeover mage insisted. "Honestly, Kinana, you deserve the time off just as much as me. And surely there's something you wanna do? Tonight? Everyone I'd want to spend the time with is gone off on jobs."
"W-Well," she hummed as she thought, "I did want to get down to the mark and-"
"Then go. Right now." Mira was still all smiles. "I'll hold down the fort just fine."
She had without help, after all, for some time before she took Kinana on.
Mirajane was glad to see the younger woman go though. For more reason than one. And, as she finished with her wiping down of the bar, she only took her time then, to go around to the only three tables occupied, and refill drinks and check in. Make idle conversation.
It was the Master's table that she saved for last.
"You just send my workers away now, huh? Think you got that power? Mirajane?" He snorted as she filled his mug of ale back to the brim, foam forming a perfect bubble atop. "Without even speaking to me? Your master?"
"I'm the head of the bar staff, Laxus."
"Master," he corrected, "Laxus."
But she gave him a look as she bent over again, the table, feigning as if she were straightening some of the papers he had strewn about the table. Instead, her eyes were only on his and Laxus shifted uncomfortably as he got a new view down her dress.
"Maybe you'd be more comfortable working your office? Master?" She raised an eyebrow. "If you'll allow me, since I would never dream of doing something without your permission, I'd like to close up early tonight."
"This early?"
"If you'll let me."
"Give it another hour. In case someone comes by looking for dinner." He stood then, taking his mug and now piled papers with him. "Bring me mine to my office after you finish up in here."
"Of course," she agreed with a grin at his fleeing back then, as the man headed to do as she'd suggested. "Master Laxus."
"Ya kickin' us out, Mirajane?" Cana complained with a slur, over where she was downing a barrel. There was no fear in her, about being picked for S-Class; there was no way Laxus wouldn't pick her. He wouldn't dare.
No way.
Showing out was for those who didn't have an in with the man.
And the Thunder Legion, still, because they'd show out no matter what. Even if all three became S-Class, they'd still challenge themselves constantly, to go above and beyond.
But not her. Not that year. She wanted to drink her days before the announcement away.
"Yes," Mira told her in no uncertain terms as there was a bit of a groan from those gathered about. "But...how about a free round? For everyone?"
That got a cheer and Mirajane grinned. It would teach the new master, anyways, for trying to talk down to her about permission and all that.
He was too busy, anyways, sitting around in his office, not considering deeply his picks for S-Class and who was impressing as of late, or even focusing on the paperwork before him. No. Laxus could only watch the clock and clench his jaw, annoyed he'd held out for another hour, because it was killing him, so much, the waiting.
It wasn't hunger. No. He'd drank his fair share for the day and it was suppressing, honestly, the majority of his appetite. No. His meal was far from his mind.
But time just seemed to be dripping by and he could only think about it, think about how long it was taking, when it would end, and he could stop pretending to care anything about the guild. How could you care about the guild? Or any of the things that went along with being it's master? When you knew what was coming soon enough? Soon enough, but still not nearly fast enough.
"Is everyone gone?"
"Uh-huh," Mirajane hummed as she came into his office, bearing a tray of food. Setting it down on the man's desk, she smiled brightly as his eyes didn't even fall to inspect what she'd brought. "Some not so happily, but we're all alone."
"And you did your...what do you do? To close up?"
"Well, tonight I scrapped some at the gum at the bottom of the tables and-"
"Yeah, that's what I thought. Fucking gross."
"You could always help. You know."
"The fuck I can. I'm the Master. Did you forget?"
"No."
She was humming too as, now just standing before his desk, she seemed to deflate a bit. The excitement wasn't brimming inside of her, like it was the man; rather, she was kind of tired and thankful, at least, for getting to escape the place so early. Unlike it would have been were it done Kinana's way, however, it was now, hopefully, with the accompaniment of the man before her. That was more than enough to produce satisfaction for Mirajane; it made the whole thing worth it, even. Still, a sigh of contentment was all that left her mouth, rather than the joyful sneer that consumed Laxus'.
"That was smart thinking, you know." He was standing, ignoring his food completely still, as he moved around the desk and over to the woman. "Get rid of Kinana, then get rid of all the patrons. Now it's just us. Me and the demon. Like is should be."
"Of course, Master."
"No more Master." He was before her now and, reaching out, his pushed her hair back, exposing her neck just enough for him to press a kiss there as he let out a slow breath. "Just Laxus."
"Dragon."
"That works too," he snickered as her head fell to rest on his shoulder as well. "It's a special time though. You know."
"I know."
"So much tot hink about and consider."
"It's stressful for me too."
"How?"
"No one's here. At all. The majority of my pay is from tips."
"I could solve that."
"Give me a raise?"
"You're my demon." He lifted his head and now his smirk seemed kind of smug. "How about ya quit working in this dump-"
"I mean, it's your guildhall now, so I probably wouldn't call it-"
"-and live with me, eh? I'll take good care of ya."
"Think I'll pass."
"Your loss." His eyes were still alight regardless. "My place has central air, heating, no annoying siblings that are still living at home because they're not as worthy as I am-"
"They're trying to impress you right now." Her tone changed then, as effortlessly as always. Still, she was sure to add, "Everyone is."
It would be her undoing though.
"Everyone, huh?" He snorted, first thinking of those losers that, at one time, he'd love to kick to the curb. The ones still being their typical bar fly selves, sitting around the guildhall and offering up nothing for their new leader. But then, his own tone changed and his smirk felt even more dickish. "Not everyone."
"Yes, everyone." Mira didn't catch it. "Elfman really wants another chance at-"
"The Scarlet bitch isn't impressing me."
"Excuse me?"
"And you," he kept up, rather than continue on down that path (it had no good outcome for him), "aren't impressing me."
"We're already S-Class."
"And?"
"And?" she challenged back, but Laxus was taking a step away from her then, back to his desk chair, which he fell into with an easy grin.
At her raised eyebrows, he only remarked, "I'm still your master."
"I thought you said no more master?"
"Just for a bit," he decided. With a toothy grin, he was sure to add, "Now impress me."
"Are you serious?" She even laughed some, Mria did, while he returned it with the same gleam in his eye he'd had since she joined him in the office. "Laxus?"
"Master."
"Dragon."
"Master. Right now."
"You're silly."
"You're not gonna get out of it. I'm Master." It was becoming easier and easier to declare himself that, in those days. "Impress me. Mirajane."
He felt so powerful and in control then that it was a huge blow to his ego when she started giggling into her palm.
"Hey," Laxus complained, eyes falling easily into a glare. "You're not supposed to laugh! We were having a moment."
"In your grandfather's office? Now that's gross."
"My," he grumbled, "office."
"Well, I'm not having sex here. Sorry."
So was he.
Still, Laxus scratched at his cheek as he grumbled, "Well...I did mention I have air condition, right?"
"It's cold out."
"Got heat too."
"But not that cold."
"Demon-"
"You know," she hummed then and, when she came over to him now, it was with shining blue eyes and an innocent expression, "I do have the house to myself. For the next few days. Since my siblings are out risking their lives to impress you. Master."
"Laxus," he corrected once more, but softer now as he considered. "We've never stayed at your house before."
"Well, someone else is always there."
And it was imperative that no one knew they were together. Neither were quite sure why, had never had a full conversation on it, but had long come to the conclusion, together, that it was just best if things stayed between the two of them.
So far, this was very much the case.
"No." He even shook his head. "It's 'cause you live in a dump."
Her expression and gaze changed. To one he had hoped to avoid that night.
"Uh, no. I don't."
"You sure?"
"Laxus-"
"Dragon." Getting to his feet, he grabbed his coat. "Did you forget?"
"Nope." She smiled to, once more, as he came to lay it over her shoulders. "I didn't."
"Should I be worried though?" he asked as they left that night, with her home the destination in mind. Mirajane had put some foil over his untouched dinner, knowing that he'd be hungry for it soon enough. "About this place?"
"What about it?"
"You know, old houses and all their...issues."
"Like you just live in the most modern apartment in the world."
"What about lead paint? Huh? That's a thing, ain't it?"
"Unless you're eating paint chips on the regular, I think your safe."
"Any rusty nails about? That I might step on? I'm a guild master now, Mirajane; I can't be taken down by tetanus."
"I don't even know what that is." Still, Mira thought some as she said, "I do have a big dog though."
"A what? You do not."
"I do so."
"I've never heard you mention this."
"Well, because he's the neighborhood's dog, really. But mostly mine. He sleeps in my front yard. So you'll have to run for it."
"Run for what? The dog?"
"The door. He doesn't like strangers."
"Maybe I don't like dogs, huh? And I'll just fill him up with lightning."
"And maybe you won't be invited inside."
"I'm liking the sound of my place more and more," he griped with a frown down at her. "Demon."
But she only held her head high, continuing on at his side as she said, "But it's missing the most important thing."
"What's that? Huh?"
"Me, dragon."
Well…
"Besides," she went on as he only stifled a bit, unable to find a suitable retort (when she had him beat, she had him beat), "I still have a lot of impressing to do, once we get there. Don't I?"
"Yeah," he was able to get out, excited by the thought now. He found himself adding regardless, "But keep your dog away from me."
"If you start coming around more, you won't be so much of a stranger."
"Get your brother and sister out of the house more and maybe I'll think about it."
"Really?"
Mira skeptical, but Laxus' arm only fell over her shoulders, pulling her close. They usually didn't do this, so publicly. It was bad enough, him walking with her, his fluffy coat draped off his shoulders, but they could easily just claim he was being a good guy, walking her home and all, jacket for the cold. This gesture, however, was far harder to explain away. Still, Mirajane didn't resist his hold and, as they walked along, she wished they could be like this more.
"One day," Laxus promised, softly, when she expressed it to him later that night, looking rather content in what he claimed was too small of bed, for the two of them, and sheets not fit to grace the body of such a high esteemed man. As she sat beside him, toying with her guitar, the music lulling him to sleep, Laxus only shut his eyes, impressed less by the woman and more with how good it felt, how real it felt, to just be them, there, in her home. "Demon."
She sure hoped so.

Flaming
Prompt: I'm not jealous.
The winter winds of Magnolia were violent and frigid, but that didn't stop Gray from pulling off his shirt and throwing it who knows where. As per usual, he was pissed at the dragon slayer he called his best friend, and as per usual, it wasn't even Natsu's fault. Despite knowing this, he couldn't help the rage that boiled beneath his skin.
From where he sat in the guild, he couldn't hear what Natsu was talking about, but his face was slightly flushed as he spoke to Lisanna and Lucy, who were both smirking. They continued to talk for several more minutes, and Natsu's face got steadily brighter and brighter. Gray had nearly jumped up and challenged Natsu just to get him away from the girls, who had to be scheming something.
"They have to be scheming something." The thought hadn't come from nothing. Lisanna had been in love with the oblivious slayer as a child, and Lucy isn't exactly subtle with the way she throws herself at him. "Why can't they just back off?"
After a while longer, Gray couldn't watch it anymore. "Hey, Ash-for-Brains," He shouted as he stood up, "I'm bored! Spar me!"
Natsu's head whipped towards him, a large smile plastered on his red face. He nearly shouted a conformation, but both of the girls he was talking with grabbed his shoulders.
"Sorry, Gray," Lucy shouted, "Natsu is a bit busy!" It took all of his willpower not to glower at the girl.
"We'll return him later," Lisanna promised.
"You'l return him later? He's not your property!" The ice mage swallowed his irritation and attempted to rationalize with himself as he turned to leave the guild. "I mean, he's not mine either, so why am I-" Gray shook his head slightly. He was already half-way home and clad in only his underwear, leaving him as exposed to the world as the reason for his actions was exposed to his mind. "Don't kid yourself, Gray. You know why you're like this."
Love was a word Gray used to hate. Not because it was a bad thing, but because everyone he'd ever associated it with had died. His mom, his dad, his childhood friends, his extended family, and his teacher were all gone, and until a few years ago, he'd have believed it was his fault.
Natsu changed that.
The pink-haired idiot had taught him that it was okay to cry, to trust in other, and to love himself, which was something that Gray had been unable to do for a long time.
"I love him, but he could never return that. Not in the same way."
Natsu was three seconds from decking both Lucy and Lisanna in the face and being done with it. They'd been bugging him for the past few hours, poking and prodding for personal information that he didn't feel like sharing. "They didn't even let me spar with Gray!"
"Come on, Natsu!" Lisanna was repeatedly poking him in the arm, desperate for an answer. "There has to be someone you like." She was smiling mischievously, and with Lucy mirroring the look, it was unnerving.
"Why won't you tell us?" Lucy was poking his other arm, effectively blocking his exit route. "It can't be that you're embarrasses are you?"
"Why," Natsu hissed out, "can't you except 'It's none of your fucking business' as an answer?" Many guild members had been watching them from a distance, curious about what was going on. Some had even made their way closer, like Mira. "Because it isn't any of your business." He made sure to bare his teeth a little more than the past few times he'd basically told them to piss off. Maybe they'd get the hint this time.
"But-"
Natsu wasn't even sure if it was Lisanna or Lucy, but he cut them off with a loud, "No," and the shoved them both away, "I'm going home. Bye, everyone." He ran over to the door and slipped out. He ran the long distance to his house, cold winds slapping him in the face and reddening it even more.
"If they found out I was in love with a guy, they'd never forgive me."
With the exception of The four dragon slayers he grew up with, Gajeel had never met anyone denser than the mages of Fairy Tail. He had listened to Lucy and Lisanna constantly prodding the annoying fire dragon he called his cousin. They had been close as children, not quite enough to call each other "brother", but that didn't mean he couldn't read Natsu like they were brothers.
The five of them had had a habit of people watching that allowed them to notice things no one else would, but something they all seemed to have in common is that they never seemed to notice anything pertaining to themselves. They used to laugh about these situations all the time, but now, it was hurting one of them. It may not be physical pain, but emotional pain was just as bad.
Gajeel sat quietly, formulating a plan, and damn was he proud of it.
"Now all I have to do is get us all in one place, at the same time, and make it look completely inconspicuous."
When Sting and Rogue had shown up claiming they wanted to hang out with the other dragon slayer like they had a children, Natsu had ridden it off as coincidence. They had stayed for a few hours and talked about everything that had happened since the dragons had left, and it had been nice. Several others had sat and listened to the stories along the way, and to Makarov's delight, not one brawl had been started, room, and the despite the fact that most all of the teenagers were in the guild's back room, together.
Then the sun started to set, and they proposed the idea of a game and brought out a special kind of alcohol. "Where did you even get that?" The pinkette asked. They had several bottles of the one kind of alcohol humans didn't sell, and it was then that Natsu started suspecting things. "Never mind, I don't want to know. Why'd you bring it though? That shit's expensive, and you can only get it from inhumans. Why waste it now?" Vodka was not sold among humans anymore, because there were so few people who could handle it, especially the higher percentage ones. However, if Natsu wanted to get drunk, he'd have to drink the higher percentage ones. His magic would burn all of it away otherwise. If he wanted it to last longer than a few minutes, then he'd have to add a special herb to it.
"The very herb that Wendy had in her hand," He noted. It worked the same way that cat-nip worked with cats but on dragons, so technically, he'd be high, not drunk.
"I see that look Natsu." Sting said annoyed, "You think we have ulterior motives." He paused, and when Natsu continued to analyze every last twitch of his body, he continued, "We don't. We just want to play a game of Never Have I Ever, and teach them how to play too."
Everyone seemed to brighten up at the thought of playing a game they'd never heard of, and the enormous grin that had been stretched across Sting's face was not helping Natsu's situation. Once Rogue pulled out the shot glasses, he knew there was no way he'd get anyone to back out of it.
With a look of utter disbelief, Natsu reluctantly agreed to play.
"Okay, so here's how the game works," Wendy began, "When it's your turn, you say 'Never Have I Ever' and then say something you've never done. If someone in the circle has done it before they down the shot." Several guild members looked at the shot glasses incredulously. They were only half the size that they were used to, and the drink inside was supposed to be flavored with whatever it said on the bottle. "Feel free to switch to water if you have to. This stuff is really strong."
Gajeel reached into his bag and pulled out a box that he passed to Wendy. "I know I don't have to say this, but you're not touching the alcohol."
Wendy's eyes lit up as she realized the box was filled with all of her favorite sodas, and she didn't hesitate to tackle the iron dragon slayer. "Thank you, Gajeel!"
He pushed her off gently and ruffled her hair, "Yeah, yeah. Let's start this thing. Never have I ever accidentally worn my underwear on the outside of my pants."
The group burst into raucous laughter. The laughing increased when Gray was the only one to take a shot and even more when he nearly spit it out. "I was not expecting it to burn like that," His voice had gone slightly hoarse, "Damn." By this point, Gray himself was laughing, and Gajeel signaled to the left at Sting.
"So for those of you who didn't get it, the weirder the thing is, the funnier the game is." When the others nodded, he giggled quietly and smirked, "Never have I ever let someone dress me up like a life-sized doll."
As soon as the words left his lips, a very violent "Fuck you," slipped out of Natsu's mouth as he snatched the shot glass and downed it like water. A few of the girls had also taken shots, but the attention was on the pinkette.
"Sorry, NaNa." Sting said joyously.
Natsu glared at him, "No you aren't, asshole." The group watched the exchange curiously, and Natsu sighed. "They'll never let me live this down." After steeling himself for the inevitable teasing, he quietly admitted to letting Wendy dress him up, play with his hair, and even put makeup on him when they were kids. While there was teasing, there were also several mentions of it being sweet of him from the girls.
"I think I still have pict-" Sting was abruptly cut off when a wooden sandal hit him in the face.
Natsu was smiling, but it seemed to be emitting it's own deadly aura. "No you don't," He said cheerfully. Those sitting closest to the fire dragon slayer, Gray, Lucy, Lisanna, and Erza, all shifted away slightly.
"That's terrifying."
The game had been going on for an hour now. Several of them had switched to water, and a handful had dropped out entirely, choosing to watch the chaos in their tipsy states. Cana, Gajeel, Rogue, Lucy, Lisanna, and Natsu were the only one's who hadn't switched to water or been given a soda from Wendy. Wendy, Erza, Levy, and Gray had all switched to water.
And Sting?
Sting was a lightweight and completely unconscious in Rogue's lap.
"Nev-Never have I ever," Lucy had gotten the hiccups about three shots in, and they wouldn't leave no matter what she did, "Had a cr-ush on a childhood friend."
Rogue, Lisanna, Erza, Levy, Gray, and surprisingly Natsu, all downed a shot. After the second never have I ever, they'd decided to tell the stories of whatever had happened, and for the most part, it had gone peacefully.
That wasn't the case this time. Lisanna shouted "I told you so," and immediately attached herself to Natsu, who began pushing her away the second she made contact with him. "You jealous?"
"I am n-ot jealous, and that doesn't m-ean anything!," Lucy shouted back, "He mi-ght not any more!" She reached out to shove Lisanna away, but Erza got in between both of then and Natsu.
"What's this about?" The red-head asked.
They both replied in perfect sync, "I like Natsu, but she likes Natsu, but we don't know who Natsu likes." They both looked like they were about to cry, and they reached for the fire mage again.
He was laughing softly, and the entire room looked at him like he'd lost it. He started to laugh louder and louder, and the two girls who'd been crushing on him began to get angry. Through his laughter he said something in a language they'd only heard a few times, Dravic. The other slayers busted into drunken giggles as well, and the fire mage lit himself on fire, making them laugh harder.
Erza, not wanting to see her friends hurt, glared at the slayer nearest to her, which happened to be Gajeel. "What part of this is funny?" She hissed.
He looked her dead in the eyes, his own filled with mirth, "Erza," He barked out with his laughter, "Erza," He continued to laugh before managing to forcing the sentence out, "He's flaming." The dragon slayers laughed harder.
Natsu dispersed the flames and unintentionally leaned back into Gray, who was behind him. He leaned forward again, face flushed slightly, and apologized half in Fiori and half in Dravic. Gray waved off the apology, and since he was drunk and no one was looking, he decided to pull the fire mage back into him, cuddling in when Natsu didn't move away.
Everyone's eyes were still glued to Erza, who was steadily getting more and more pissed off.
"And what exactly," Erza growled out, "Does that have to do with anything?"
Wendy stepped in between her "cousin" and Titania, choosing to explain before Erza decided to castrate him. "He translated a slang phrase from Dravic," She said gently. She placed her hands on Erza's shoulders and took a deep breath, "He's gay." Erza continued to stare at her blankly, "As in, he likes guys."
"I know what gay means, Wendy," the redhead replied quietly, "I'm just trying to wrap my head around it being used to describe Natsu, as it's not something I expected." She shook her head gently. "Or maybe I'm just tipsier than I thought..." She added. Everyone had cracked up again. After the laughter had died down, she made a humming noise. "It's... It's like being handed a piece of strawberry cake that looks just like strawberry cake, but when you take a bite of it, it's chocolate. There's nothing wrong with chocolate, you're just surprised it's not what you thought it was."
The room silenced, only for the one who started this mess to break it, "We're too shit-faced for this right now," Gajeel muttered. Those who hadn't passed out laughed, and once that died down, people began to sleep where they were. On a table, upside down, or in someone's lap.
The first thing Erza saw when she wake up confused her, until she remembered everything she found out the day before. Natsu was curled up in Gray's lap, dead asleep, and the ice mage was gazing at him adoringly, clearly still mostly asleep.
At that moment she understood that the reason she didn't see it had nothing to do with it not being there, but rather the fact that neither dared to show it. She didn bother to question it any further.
"I could get used to seeing them this happy."

The Evolution of Erza Scarlet
This is in response to @thegreatrhapsode‘s post on what he would do for Erza Scarlet’s character in a re-write. Being an avid Scarlet fan myself, I couldn’t help but thrown in some of my two cents. My disclaimer: I’m not an impartial reviewer - I’m approaching this like I would a fanfic - what could make an interesting story. So yeah, this will be what interests ME. So, sorry-not sorry to anyone else who thinking what I have down here is trash. XP
Armors and Powers:
I actually love the idea of her having to go without those armors for a while for repairs or even reforged into a more powerful version. While they are broken, she'll find that she needs to increase her base stats more (like Zoro does) so she can train her physical stats even more, or her actual sword fighting technique. So the next couple of fights, she focuses on using just the weapons themselves instead of relying too much on her armor stash. A ‘retraining’ of herself of sorts. Instead of breaking up Natsu and Gray’s fights all the time, she joins in to keep her actual fisticuffs skills up to par. For her reaction and speed training, having Alzack and Bisca use their requip to shoot magic bullets at her might be intense enough for her to try.
Or hell, even another thought - learning how to capture her opponents blade by placing her own version of 'enchantment' on them. Whichever blades she can successfully enchant, she can wield with her telekinesis-like ability that she displayed when she first manifested her power and also when she brought down the Hall of Thunder. It would be a literal ‘Blade Steal’. This is where I thought ‘Queen of Blades’ could also become a later moniker of hers. It’s possible and if fits with her powers and skills. She enchants whatever item she desire with her magic and that is how she can bring it in and out of her ‘storage’ a la ‘ReQuip’.
Another idea might be one for her getting materials for the reforging of her old armor. The Flame Empress is easy - have Natsu help enchant it with his Fire Dragon Magic during the actual reforging of that set. The Black Wing and the Heaven’s Wheel can also get improvements but not as much as some others. Purgatory Armor should just be left out...that was freaking useless. To replace that one, she can go hunting for new armors and THIS is where she finds the Nakagami armor set or even a few other new ones. If her power is tied to her armor, then she should have been constantly upgrading her armor by reforging different pieces, inlaying lacryima into them - anything. Heaven’s Wheel is her favorite go-to armor? Have that thing double the amount of blades with that set and even make the swords more durable and able to shoot her magic energy through the tips or something - like her Photon Laser armor set. Honestly, Erza is properly OP just with a bit more application of the powers available to her from the start.
I think it would be amusing if she put on one of her old magic armor sets and it broke because she had too much power for it to properly channel. It would be nice if she didn’t have to rely on armor ALL the time.
Story and Goals:
Having a set goal is good - having an obscure goal like ‘to be strong enough to protect my family’ is ... okay. That sort of goal only works for the MC of the story but yeah... I wouldn’t have minded the ‘Wizard Saint’ goal if Natsu didn’t defeat Jellal in ToH like he did. The fight needs a bit more depth to it despite what it already represented. To me, having the Natsu vs Jellal fight represent her Past vs her Present+Future is pretty good symbolism in of itself. Power-wise... I think if she had helped out and it took both Natsu and Erza to beat him, it would lend a bit more weight to the ‘level of a Wizard Saint’ thing. Would also help solidify the fact that Jose rightly took her apart during the Phantom Lord Arc because he was that strong to be a ranked member of the Saints. Little things like that make the story easier for me to believe - maybe that’s just a ‘me’ thing. Maybe Erza didn’t want to become a Saint because she didn’t want to put herself on the same level as Makarov yet - that could also be a thing. She feels indebted to him and she doesn’t want to do anything to usurp his role to her in her mind. It may take Makarov himself to kick her in the ass to get her to try out for it. Pride of a father watching his beautiful daughter taking her rightful place in the world - nice moment right there. Gray may support her since he knows enough that Erza’s path may take her away from Fairy Tail. Natsu, however, doesn’t want her to leave and may even throw a tantrum or quietly ask if she’s just leaving them because she doesn’t like it here anymore which hurts Erza because she thinks the world of Natsu and even as bone-headed as he is, he’s important to her. They decide to have a battle - if Natsu wins, Erza stays, if Erza wins, she leaves and Natsu won’t say anything else. They fight and Natsu brings his ‘S-ranked’ game to this and Erza has to fight harder than ever before, not just because Natsu became stronger (flame of emotion, remember), but because she’s also undecided in her own heart. In the end, she decides to postpone her applying to the Wizard Saint position because she wants to go on more adventures and make more memories with her family. So Titania stays with Fairy Tail even though she’s at Wizard Saint lvl.
She may decide to help train Natsu and Gray to become S-ranks so that they guild will remain strong in her absence (another goal for her and also gives Natsu a path for increasing his battle power).
Not getting into Irene on that one... maybe if someone asks me, I’ll delve into it.
Relationships:
Okay, @thegreatrhapsode, you can tune me out here. XD Her relationships with her guildemates, her friends, Natsu and Gray and Wendy, and of course, Jellal. It should be very well known and well documented that I strongly dislike Jellal in this story - which is a shame because I will sing Seig Hart’s praises til the end of time. I like Seig even more than Shuda and Shuda was BAMF in Rave. Showing her becoming less strict is a good thing. I wouldn’t mind if she became the guild master and said many of the same things that Makarov said. That lil old man was essentially her father figure so it makes sense that she takes a lot of what he says to heart. So she becomes less stern and more accepting of those who don’t ‘live up’ to her old standards - instead, she may even do away with that line of thinking and encourage her fellow guildmates to live in a way that they can find out for themselves the reason for their magic, why they do what they do, and continue to live from day to day. She needs more time with Mira, Cana, and Wendy as well. Cana got shoved to the side and she really didn’t deserve that. Cana is one of the old guard, right along with Erza, Natsu, Gray, Mira, and Laxus - those are the core of the next gen of Fairy Tail. They should have a bond between them that is hard to pin down but probably the most sibling-like of any of the bonds in Fairy Tail. Sure, they may belong to different teams but for those 6 - I think they should be ‘That One Squad’ you don’t want to mess with. Like they should have been able to go up against the Oracion Seis... XD Okay maybe not, but hopefully you can grasp what I mean. As more and more people get added into the story (Lucy, Juvia, Gajeel, Thundergod Tribe, Wendy and Charles, etc), we should see that tight-knit circle growing in size but never losing it’s original strength of these people being the core of the Fairy Tail that the story is following. How they relate to Erza is that these are the ‘actual family’ that she relies on - everyone else is extended family. Hate to break it up into those terms but that’s how I see it. I’ll address Jellal before I get to Gray and then Natsu - personally, they all deserve their own sections - they are that important to Erza.
Jellal: Okay, real plot-talk here. I don’t like the fact that his redemption and his romance with Erza are essentially two-in-one. I don’t care how tortured of a soul he is or how good he was previous to the possession. Romance + Redemption is a disaster - especially if the romance partner ends up dying. If Erza died, there’s no where for Jellal to go but right back into darkness. Sure, he might do it in revenge of Erza’s killer if she died that way, but seriously, take Erza away and Jellal has no foothold to stand on - that is what makes him and the entire thing with Erza weak. I really don’t think Erza should have auto-switched to Jellal like she did - it was too sudden. Kinda makes you wonder why did she wait all those 8 years stewing for... *shrugs* Anyway, whether I like it or not, Jellal is very important to Erza - he gave her hope in what was her darkest time - I will never dispute this. And yet, he dashed that to pieces when he got possessed and went nuts, threatening her that if she ever got help to come back and free the others, that he’d kill them all. That should have had a much deeper psychological impact on her - much deeper than just a short arc for her to get over it and pursue a romance with him. *shakes fist at Mashima*. Damn it, I didn’t want this part to be a rant... Like I said in the above - Jellal is her past. Yes, he is both a bright spot and a dark smear on her past and her memories. And he should remain as that. She would want him to regain the light once more and that’s not a problem. But I think that he’d have a LOT to prove with her other than looking like a sad puppy and crying. As much faith as Erza showed Natsu during the Nirvana arch, why didn’t he ask her just who was Natsu to her - get her flustered a bit. XD I really would like a Jella/Natsu rivalry just because of the raw emotion that was shown in ToH. Sorry but actions speak louder than words and Jellal has 8 years to make up for. You’ll notice that I’m not referencing Ultear here - that’s because I don’t hold her responsible for that brainwashing in my head. I’m fully aware that it’s canon but Ultear has enough on her plate without throwing the huge mountain of crimes and ‘sins’ that Jelly amassed during that time. She should have been kept as a viable route for him to take as well. Either way, I think a fair bit of time needs to be spent on Jellal even being a continuing villain in FT or put him on the long, hard road of recovery. Either way, that’s something that he’ll have to make on his own and not rely on hiding behind Erza’s impenetrable aura of ‘Erzaness’ to defend him.
Gray: Gray is definitely the mature one between himself and Natsu. He is level-headed (for the most part) and can deal with complex things that Natsu either can’t deal with or just doesn’t want to. He and Erza can have long talks about different topics without it delving into fighting or annoyance. If she engaged in this with Gray more, it would do wonders for showing us how she sees him and vice versa. I really think that Erza should have taken both Gray and Natsu out with her on missions by themselves but Eisenwald was the first time she took both at once because she needed all their powers. But anyway, having Erza reveal that she trusts Gray with the hard plans because he can think his way through tough spots (like in Edolas with the key and the Dragon Cannon), would be a great set of moments for the both of them to learn just to what extent they see each other. Erza and Gray come off more like the older sister, middle brother type relationship but again, THEY ARE NOT BROTHER AND SISTER!
Natsu: I’ll... keep this brief... Or try to. First and foremost - THEY ARE NOT BROTHER AND SISTER SO ANYTHING ROMANTIC WITH THEM IS NOT  INCEST - PERIOD!!!! *huffs* .... There, glad we cleared that up. Now, even though I like Natza (perhaps a bit too much for some people) - them suddenly starting a relationship after ToH is a bit much...even for me. Like many have brought up - Erza sees Natsu and Gray as much her actual brothers as one could. It would take some time for the viewpoint to allow for her to see Natsu as something more. ToH provided enough to give that perception a brief rattle in my book but hey.... She thinks of him a lot - I mean A LOT. Likewise, he does things for her that make a good amount of people have to adjust their eyes to make sure of what they’re seeing. They can both strength each other and also hold the other back. They inspire each other - they believe in each other with a faith so strong, it defies all reason. Other writers and Tumblrs have brought up that Natsu probably reminded Erza of Jellal from their actual slave days and she wanted to make sure that he would be a man who would never succumb to darkness (and she succeeded in that). They both need more awareness of each other, but mostly for Natsu in order for any romance to kick over. If I did it, both Natsu and Erza wouldn’t even realize that they were in that sort of relationship. It would probably be towards the 2nd to last arc before Natsu realized that he lllllliiikes herrrrrr like that. Again, growth on his part as well but he needs to become more mature and also more aware of the more complicated aspects of life. And yes, I’m aware that Natsu has a LOT of growing up to do but I don’t want that to come at the expense of who he is and what he is to the story. Ugh... Keep it brief... So yes,  a slow burn for their relationship upgrade would be best. Asking for his opinion on more and more personal things, making him study/read more to bring up his IQ...things like that.
She doesn’t need an active romance to be Erza. She was fine before and she’d be fine after. Yes, I’m aware that she wants to become a bride and she wants to have a family and all of that - there’s no reason that she can’t have that. Like I said before, this is me thinking of it in a story and while I do prefer Natsu as her mate, I can ‘adjust’.
I really could keep on adding more to this but I gotta drop it right here. Agree - Disagree - that’s fine. It’s just my own perspective on how I see it. :p This is how I see Erza from the first 100 chapters evolving in a way that keeps with the original direction and still manages to make an impact with her.

Ayesha Liveblogs Fairy Tail S7 Part 1
Seems like they’re really amping up the romantic tension this season
And also the drama?? Cat murder seems unnecessary
“Why did the Gawkers tag along?” I love the Gawkers they are my babies
“I took the liberty of eavesdropping” Arcadios is not really very good at introductions
Admitting to kidnapping and stealing will not endear you to people
They can’t really be surprised that there’s no actual justice system in a monarchy
Time travel seems like a terrible idea for more reasons than I can list
I love Gray’s finals outfit of course he has to wear a sleeveless shirt and arm sleeves
“U mad bro?” They’re using memes as dialogue lmao
Guild master wisdom:
Makarov: What’s Gray’s strategy
Mavis: All balls no brains
“You shouldn’t be able to move right now” “Don’t tell me what to do” I love Gray Fullbuster in immeasurable amounts
Fucking hell he stole Rufus’s feathered hat what a man
“Trying to be sexy for that long really takes it out of you” if this show has proved anything it’s that the best way to be sexy is by accident
“Can’t say I’m a fan of this sitting on the sidelines garbage” Lucy <3
“You’re the least beautiful thing here” I think Pinocchio the Garbage Knight wins that title
I love that when Natsu and Gray are attacked by each other’s elements they’re like ‘bitch pls my boi has been on this magic since day 1′
Lucy, without any weapons or ability to use her magic: Let’s punch him
“I’m so grown up I’m actually an apparition” same Mavis same
“Why do you run from me?” he asked, while swinging two scythes violently in succession
Shout-out to when Gray and Loke defeated Wendy using sour fruit although it was much cuter between guildmates
I aspire to be as committed to my terrible decisions as Arcadios imagine literally wading through hot lava to make a mistake
LION BOYFRIEND TO THE RESCUE
“Reflect upon your sins and despair” Calm down Sir Guyliner
Yukino must think Lucy has a polyamorous relationship with all her spirits considering how often they hit on her
“Y’all must think I was born on the boat yesterday” The mixed idioms are kind of great
Stop touching Wendy’s mouth you creep
Fairy Tail guild members all talk about their super secret treasonous rescue mission in the middle of a public corridor
“She underwent unimaginable pain at the hands of Jellal, so why does she protect him?” [Happy voice] Because they’re in loooove
I’m not sure what I hate more Minerva’s tactics or her eyebrows
I called that it would be Lucy since Jellal’s confrontation with her but I’m curious as to where Jellal has gone
“Not to brag, but we even got ourselves a spare” Natsu pls
“I’m a lightning god slayer” “That’s gonna make it embarrassing when you lose to a fairy” Adsdtjkhfgfkhg when Laxus reps Fairy Tail I weep
You’d think if Jellal of all people can manage to forgive Ultear she’d be a little more at peace but I guess they’re just the Guilt Squad
I hope Erza kills Minerva in the most painful way possible she is literally the Worst
“You really need to get it together, Future Me” same Lucy same
I guess if you’re already committing treason you might as well go for broke
“Gray and Lyon are both quite handsome fellows, I suppose,” Amazing even Yajima thinks he’s pretty
Laxus’s dialogue this entire arc has been amazing
Unbelievable Fairy Tail won the games through a staring contest
This is incredibly traumatizing for Lucy she literally watched herself die in her own arms
Why would you trust the word of a man whose character design is so clearly evil
In a plot twist that everyone saw coming, opening the portal to the past where dragons ruled was a bad idea
Seven Dragons, seven dragon slayers, I get it
“He did make an extremely convincing argument,” he said, having had no screen-time during said convincing argument at all
Gray is finally gonna sit Juvia’s ass down and tell her he doesn’t want to date
“The world is as good as dead” Hisue is me every time I am faced with any challenge
JENNY TRIED TO SEDUCE A DRAGON

“People and People, Dragons and Dragons, People and Dragons” is this an episode title or a Panic at the Disco album
Lmao @ Natsu’s dragon uncle this is not what I was expecting
How Not to Redemption Arc 101:
Ultear: I will never atone for all that I’ve done
Also Ultear: We must murder the teen before he commits a crime

Well well well it’s Raven Tail oh how the turntables
“You’re feeling overwhelmed? Well this is a first” Dgjfkdghkfjhgkfjhgkl Jellal is flirting mid-battle this is everything I love
NO NO NO NOT GRAY LITERALLY ANYONE BUT GRAY HE IS THE ONLY PERSON I CARE ABOUT FUCK
Retrieve my lost happiness Ultear bring Gray back
MY BABY HE IS ALIVE AND I AM ALIVE AND I LOVE HIM
Hisue ought to realize that since she can’t fight she’s kind of only forcing the people around her to protect her
“Was that us?” A reasonable conclusion when your enemy evaporates in golden light
Erza and Jellal just making eyes at each other like ‘death battle and chill’
I’m happy Future Lucy is at peace although it’s sad that in her world that’s only because she and all her friends are dead
Amazing Gray is already in his boxers my stripper son always saving me
I can’t believe that Freed is canonically in love with Laxus
Erza just got sister-zoned by Kagura amazing
SHE WAS KEEPING THREE CATS IN HER TITTIES ERZA PLS
This battle for Yukino to join all the guilds is adorable I love it
Honestly I demand a post-battle makeout between Erza and Jellal
Oh no Meredy doesn’t know what happened to Ultear
Lmao @ Doranbolt yelling at the monarchy
“Be safe,” said Doranbalt, to a fugitive who hunts dark wizards for a living
Ultear is the old lady!!! Also poor Jellal and Meredy they’re having a rough time
Gray carries the burden of everyone who has sacrificed their lives for him
Why did the ghost of the first master cross the road? To get to The Other Side
Rogue @ everyone: Fight me

Every girl in this show is a little gay for Erza
“I know we just met, but I’m thinking we should fight” I LOVE HIM
I bet Loke’s dream is going to be something dirty
“One flick of your finger is all I need” 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
I love that Gray is both constantly naked and criticizing people’s fashion choices
If the spiritual alter egos are turning their quirks into violence does that mean Loke is going to seduce people to death
Apparently he’s a misogynist knight [Leo voice] m’Lucy
I want Levy, Yukino and Lucy to form Charlie’s Wizards
Natsu, slightly betrayed: I thought you were just being a bro
Is Gajeel gonna babysit because I can dig that
“This seems like an excellent spot for some man-on-man action” Elfman do you hear yourself
I can’t believe that Cana is playing Yu-Gi-Oh
They’re really playing up the partner dynamic between Juvia and Gray which is ironic because he literally died trying to dump her last arc
I am unexpectedly enjoying the duel segment a lot I guess it’s because I enjoyed YGO?
I CNA’T BREATHE GRAY STOP DANCING
He’s figure skating I’m losing it “100 Gray spins” this is the most terrible and best thing I’ve ever seen
“Goodbye, my sweet prince” Take a shot every time someone talks about how they’re in love with Gray and then die of alcohol poisoning he is cursed with a hotness he can never escape
I can’t believe that Gajeel is a squirrel
Panther Lily is embarrassed about being treated as a pet but he is Gajeel’s cat
Tbh the Spirit Beast is just a less intense version of the Ten Tails
I have lost my patience for filler on to plot we go

About Life: Discern
Previous Chapter
Laxus could recall, with ease, the last time that he was truly happy. He was above five and not so sickly yet though he definitely could catch a mean cold every year in the winter. His mother was well too and not on her deathbed. His father was happier and, though Ivan was known to butt heads with dear old Gramps, his madness hadn't yet rotted his brain away.
They were a family.
A real family.
There was love and care and fun. His father would play with his toy cars with him and his mother would make them all dinner, even Gramps if he wasn't too busy, and that was just it. Everyone has that glorious time period in which everything was perfect. Laxus' just happened to come very early. That was all.
Or so he thought.
He thought he'd never feel it again. True love. Because, oh, he loved the Thunder Legion and the guild and even his damn grandfather, but it wasn't the same. How could it be? There was a difference between having love for something and being in love with it and, man, he'd fallen in love with her.
There's been other women. Plenty of other women. Women that he'd enjoyed for a time period, maybe even loved at some point, but he'd never felt what he did that first night he spent with her. And every night after that. He feared every night that he fell asleep that he'd wake up and it would have left in the night, but this hadn't been the case so far.
He truly was in love.
Him.
Laxus fucking Dreyar.
The Thunder Legion, of course, were beside themselves. Evergreen thought she wasn't attractive enough for him, Freed was convinced she was just using him for his status and jewels, and Bickslow, well, Bickslow mostly just lamented his inability to, as he put it, snag a woman like that. Makarov too was in a state of disbelief (twinged with that jealousy Bickslow had).
But time heals and time proves and as the months went on, the complaints of his friends became less and less until, eventually, they were so used to Laxus being with someone, seriously being with someone, that they hardly thought anything about it.
It was hard to think about, anyways, considering the man was gone so much.
Laxus had always been a traveler. Always. He'd wandered since he was abandoned by his parents and gained the freedom to do so. It never made the loss go away, but it took some of the strain of it off. Plus, Magnolia was fucking lame.
Now that he had a woman though, his travels weren't to unknown towns with long bouts of brooding at scenery in between. No. Laxus was a high roller then, it seemed, as he wanted to take his new lady out on all sorts of expensive trips. It got to the point where he was either off with the woman or off on a job to gain more jewels to take her somewhere even nicer.
At a certain point, Freed and Evergreen came to him with concerns that he was being used for said jewels. Bickslow came too, but only to remark that if anyone deserved handouts from the man, it was definitely him.
But the slayer rebuked them for even thinking it.
Then thought it alone late at night.
So he spent a few tortuous months not taking her out as much. Just had her take a vacation with him, in Magnolia. To see how he lived. Only they didn't do much of that, as he hardly went down to the hall and mostly just stayed locked up in his apartment with her.
The way it should be.
Eventually, Freed, Ever, and Bickslow had to just accept that not only was Laxus going to be with the woman, but also that any problem they thought of would only be debunked by him immediately.
"Maybe it's true love," Lisanna told them one day when she observed their downcast attitudes. She used to enjoy hanging out with them, as they were full of life and always had something going on, but recently they seemed to be in a bit of a slump. "And they'll be together, seriously, forever. Wouldn't that be nice? For Laxus?"
"Shouldn't you be mad at Laxus?" Evergreen complained as he glared at the woman. "I thought your sister was trying to get all knocked up by him."
"Who can be mad at love?" Lisanna asked simply. "And Mira's moved on, you know."
They all knew.
Or at least had been told so when the news broke that Mirajane was pregnant.
Laxus too found out eventually, but he was too busy with his woman to really pay attention to any of it. Mira wasn't his deal anymore. The first time he saw her up at the guild after finding out, he only congratulated her and went on his way. He was happy for her though, of course. How could he not be? It was all that Mira said she wanted in the world and now she had it.
As someone who'd just found the one thing he wanted in the world, he was glad she too was feeling such happiness.
But she wasn't though. Because it was all one big lie.
Part of Mirajane was heartbroken.
It didn't take a lot of her to fall in love. Or out of it. But when the process was interrupted by another, it did hurt her some. She'd liked the path her and Laxus seemed to be going down and the vision of them being together had become a desire of hers. It hurt to know that he'd found that happiness with someone else.
But she'd have gotten over it by that point, she was certain, if she wasn't also carrying his child.
The other part of the woman was afraid of what her lying would cause for the baby. When the original plan was devised by her, she was going to be honest with her future child about whatever transpired. Who their father was, why he was or wasn't involved, and how that was all okay because they had one another.
Now though, a lie was complicating all things.
She didn't want to tell Laxus that the child she was pregnant with was his. For a lot of reasons. The first was out of shock, but now, it had gone on so long that she back out. Plus…
She really didn't want to fuck things up in his life.
Though Mira thought that she and Laxus could possibly be good together, she was seeing currently a woman that he could actually be great with. Why would she purposely allow a wedge to grow between the two? Honestly, before she got all tangled up with him, the idea of Laxus finding love would have enthralled Mirajane like no other. She didn't even hate it, really, currently. He was happy and that was…
Confusing, admittedly, but Mira really cared about him. She had before it all started, but now that they'd gotten to know one another better than ever, she couldn't pray for any pain to come to him. If he'd truly found the one that he was meant to be with then...then…
Then what?
Then she kept the lie going.
She'd found another man, after Laxus flaked on her, who didn't want to be involved in the child's life. Which was for the best, she'd decided, because she'd wanted to raise the child alone originally, hadn't she? It sounded fishy to some, but not enough to poke holes in. Or call Mirajane a liar.
Plus, clearly someone got her pregnant. No one else seemed to be able to easily make the jump straight to Laxus being the culprit and, well, time just went on. The guild was a very busy place, after all. Even Mira's siblings couldn't dwell on her life constantly (though both were prepping for their future aunt/uncle status). The closest to figuring it all out was Lucy, who Mira hadn't told of her pregnancy, but at least of her possibly entering a real relationship with Laxus, but there was no way that the celestial wizard would ever call her closest friend a liar.
No way.
Eventually Mira was able to find the delectation she once envisioned over having a child. Pregnancy suited her, Makarov told her with a grin one day at work and though sometimes her body didn't agree, she found that overall she enjoyed it. There was something so amazing about the concept and, slowly, her feelings for Laxus were buried with the plans she'd made upon having her child. Decorating the nursery with Lisanna, looking at baby names with Lucy, hassling Elfman and Evergreen about when they too would be having a child.
It wasn't all rainbows and sunshine, nothing was after all, but the good outweighed the bad.
"You will take off as much time as you need, of course," Makarov told her as the months progressed and the time grew near. "Kinana and Lisanna will fill the gaps. Not that you have to worry about them out working you, I imagine. There will always be a place for you here."
"Thank you, Master," Mirajane giggled as she sat at one of the booths, polishing glassware. "But I don't think I need to take off just yet. I-"
"You will take off starting tomorrow, as planned," he insisted. "You're about ready to pop, I fear."
"Master-"
"I assume that you already have chosen a name for the child," he sighed from his spot atop the bar. It was before opening and they were alone until Kinana was due to arrive, in the next half hour. "Mira."
"I have."
"Well, be it a boy, Makarov is a very fine name." When all he got was a look from the woman in return, he sighed as tapped his fingers along his staff. "Yes, well, it is a hard name to grow into. I suppose I should save it, anyhow. My grandson is getting awfully close with that lady friend of his. Maybe I can con him into naming his firstborn after me."
"Something tells me, Master," Mira told him with the straightest face she could pull, "that Laxus wouldn't go for that."
"Erza then. Her first child. Surely."
"Maybe," the barmaid agreed, though more to just get off the subject. "Maybe."
It became a moot point anyways, it seemed, as the child Mira bore was a little girl. Elfman bawled over the idea of having another woman to be a man for and Lisanna gushed over all the cute dresses and bows she could put the child in while Mira only held her baby close and soothed it's cries.
Save a few visits from the likes of Cana, the Master, and Lucy, the Strauss siblings seemed lost in their own little world for a few days.
This just so happened to coincide with Laxus and his girlfriend's 'vacation' in Magnolia. As he was finding out, it wasn't his money she was after at all. Just him. Like he knew. Before the damn Thunder Legion started trying to fuck with his head.
They didn't get it. They didn't see it. She understood him. In ways no one else did. So how could they understand then, when they didn't understand what it was that they were supposed to understand?
Laxus gave himself a headache with that one, but when Freed did mention to him that Mirajane had given birth, he sent his regards along with the rune mage for when he saw the woman.
"Close friend of yours?" his girlfriend (gosh, it never felt so easy to say that) asked as they sat together on his couch, following his most trusted follower's departure. The dark haired woman had linked her arm with his and snuggled up real close as Laxus only sipped at his coffee and considered her question.
"Not really," he remarked simply. "Just closer than most."
"You should send her something then."
"Send her what?"
"Some sort of gift," she insisted. "It's what you do, you know, when your close friends have a baby."
"Like I said," he grumbled around his coffee, "we're not that close."
They weren't, either, were they? They had a couple month...fling, maybe, it could be classified as, but that was said in done. In Laxus mind, Mirajane had moved on quite efficiently and in her mind, he had nothing to move on from. They were just two people who, in a few moments of weakness, shared something together. But the weakness was over and Mira was strong then, for her child, and Laxus was enraptured with his woman.
Whatever had happened was so far removed from his mind that, after that morning, he didn't think of it again.
He had more important things to focus on anyways.
Because Laxus had never felt the way he did, when he was with his girlfriend. Not since he was a boy. And he couldn't imagine losing that again. Which is why, when the 'vacation' was over and his girlfriend was bidding to return back home, Laxus did the one thing he never saw himself as doing. Never wanted to do. Before that moment. Before he had the best thing in his life and wanted to keep it there. Forever.
"Laxus is getting married," Lisanna told her sister with a bit of a gagging face and a roll of the eyes as she arrived home late one night. She only came to stretch out on her sister's bed as the woman sat on the end of it, attempting to nurse her fussy child. "According to Bickslow and Ever. I didn't see Freed, but I imagine he's just as annoyed by the whole thing as they are."
Mira was so tired from the baby that it didn't even register, at first, was her sister was saying. Once it did, she only continued to face forwards and shut her eyes something.
"He is?" was the soft sigh that left her mouth and in return, Lisanna only let out a long groan.
"Yes. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for him and things, but can you imagine how stuffy that wedding will be? I almost don't even want to go."
"Then don't."
"And miss out on the spectacle of it all?" That time Lisanna hummed. "Can you imagine it, Mira? I mean, no offense to you, because I know that you were kind of into him too back before...before you got with… But imagine it. Wanting to marry Laxus Dreyar. Gross."
"What's wrong with Laxus?"
"Nothing's wrong with him. Except his attitude. And arrogance. And that fact that he just won't let poor Natsu have a chance at proving himself. Imagine marrying a jerk like that."
"Yeah," her sister agreed softly. "Imagine."
The first time that Mirajane took her newborn up to the bar, most everyone wanted a chance at her. Makarov was the first one that got to hold her though, as he was there before opening, and he only smiled down at the child with the remark, "She's powerful, Mira. I can sense it."
"Mmm," the babe's mother sighed with a nod. "So can I."
"When she's big and strong, she'll be a fairy. You be sure of it." The man smiled sadly at Mira as he said, "I won't be around to see it, of course, but-"
"Don't speak like that, Master."
So he didn't.
Erza picked up immediately on the magical energy the child had as well, but seemed rather against picking up the child herself.
"Come on, Erza," Lucy giggled into her palm as the swordswoman only stood with her arms over her chest. "You know you wanna."
"I will not. I might drop her."
"You will not. Just do it."
"I refuse."
It was all fun, anyways, for the others, though Mirajane was very cautious of just who could and couldn't hold the baby. She was very busy explaining to Natsu why he was on the very short list pertaining only him of who couldn't hold her when it happened.
Laxus arrived.
The man was rarely interested in the goings on of his guild mates, so he hardly glanced over at the slight crowd of them at one table. Only headed towards the request board to pick up a job so he could head out. Something big. Something to mark the occasion. Rank in some jewels so he could go out and buy a fancy ring for his girl. His woman. His lady.
That's what she said she'd be. His. Now he wanted to make it as official as possible before she left town.
But it was the some of a child's cry that did make him glance over and it felt more than just coincidence that Mira seemed to look up from her child at that exact moment, causing their eyes to meet. Natsu was still begging in front of her, to hold the child (just to show off to Lucy, who'd deemed him not eligible for such a thing long ago), but Mira only looked around him, right at Laxus, who felt frozen for a moment.
Laxus wasn't one for them, babies, but he and Mira had talked about it endlessly, it felt like, at some point in life. Because everything from before he met his girl- fiancee felt like a lifetime ago. Even something that was only a month or so prior. Still, he felt like he should at least go meet the child. It was awkward, anyways, making eye contact and at least not speaking.
It happened though, once he was close enough. Just a few more steps, over to where Mira and the others were, and it hit him hard enough to stop the slayer dead in his tracks.
Everyone had a scent. Everyone. And there was not one that a slayer knew better than his own. Laxus was no different. He could place his scent anywhere.
Which is why it was so halting when that the one of that child in Mira's arms hit him. It reeked of many things. The Strauss home, milk, that new baby scent. But beneath all of that was its own, true scent. Most children's are made up, in some way, of their parents. And yeah, Laxus caught a whiff of Mira in there, but mixed in with that…
"Laxus, are you alright?"
That came from Evergreen, who was in the bar that day it seemed (just so she could ruin Elfman's day and refuse to ever have a child with him as he was in a desperate kick, it seemed, to give his new niece a little cousin to play with; disgusting). She came up to rest a hand on her idol's arm as she spoke.
"You look," she remarked, taking in how the blood was draining from his face, "like you've seen a ghost."
He had. And the way that Mirajane looked away from him, so quickly, well, it just felt like it told him everything he needed to know.
"I have to leave." He shrugged Ever off too and some other people were glancing his way then, but Laxus didn't care. "Now."
"But- Laxus!"
He didn't care for Evergreen's calls. Only turned and rushed right out of the guild. To get away from it's members. From Mira.
But mostly...that baby.
As he set off at a brisk pace, he felt him come back to himself, reason with himself, even convince himself that he was wrong. Because there was no way that...but Mira said...how…
Laxus didn't have a baby.
Laxus had a new fiancee and a new life and was going to be moving away from Magnolia, maybe, even. They'd talked about it, at least. He was going to live in a nice house with his woman and maybe a nice little dog or cat to start their family.
Theirs.
What would eventually be their kids and their life.
Because Laxus didn't have anything close to that currently.
Did he?

Covert Relationship
Makarov was old, he'd given them all that. And his luck with women, albeit frequent in his youth, had never been quite everlasting. But that didn't mean that he couldn't tell a budding romance when he saw it.
And boy, did he see enough of them during his time as Master. He knew that was to be expected, of course, as there came a point when they had so many young members, children that were more or less raised by the guild. And inevitably, those children grew and began to forge their own relationships.
It was beyond his fair share of them, however, when it finally got down to the last two people he would have ever paired together.
At first, it started with a few glances between the two parties. Nothing to be concerned about. She'd always been nice to everyone around and he…well, he not quite so much, but he'd always had a soft spot for her. Then again, the guy more or less had trouble with crying and oh, she'd cry if someone treated her badly.
…Or scold them. One or the other.
So when the two of them began to talk more, he didn't think much of it, Makarov didn't. Fine, his grandson wasn't too vocal, but it was hard not to be with Mirajane. And as of late, she'd seemed to have grown even more attached to him for some reason or other. Nothing of serious interest with.
Until the touching started.
Now, Makarov had a pretty nice view of the guildhall from his seat atop the bar, where he'd usually meditate or just find peace with the goings on of his guild. The past few weeks though he'd taken more of a notice of Mirajane.
It started with the way that she constantly found a reason to bring Laxus over to the bar. He'd usually either sit with his bodyguards or off by himself. But in the past few weeks, she'd been asking him to come sit by the bar and help her with something. Once, she even literally took him by the hand and drug him over there.
It was madness.
What was worse was that Laxus let her do those things. And by things, he meant there were others.
She would randomly pat him on the arm or, even once, literally reached out while she was working at the bar to rub his hair, messing up his yellow locks. And Laxus would only grumble, but say nothing.
He'd even witnessed, more than once, her gently touching his shoulder or patting him on the head as she went about her business, walking around the guild, carrying platters of food and beer. A couple of times, Laxus had even been the one to leave a lingering touch on Mira. His hand would graze her arm or the small of her back.
And if the two of them didn't find themselves standing close to one another a lot recently. Every time there was some sort of a crisis at the guild (and honestly, when wasn't there) and everyone would gather around one another, they'd find themselves huddled up in the circle or by whatever table they had a map or book spread out across, Laxus arm just gently brushing hers usually.
The two of them seemed to think that they were being sneaky. Crafty. And perhaps they were. Perhaps he was the only one picking up on the signs. But it didn't change one single fact; his grandson was ruining one of the best things that the guild had going for it.
What was going to happen then? Huh? When Laxus and Mirajane inevitably called it quits and she left the guild high and dry? Laxus was so selfish. Who was Makarov supposed to stare at then? Erza? That wouldn't work. She was almost always in her armor at the hall. And now that they all knew Cana was Gildarts daughter, well, that just made things awkward.
No. Laxus was ruining things not only for the guild, but also Makarov. And he just couldn't take it.
Deep down he had to admit, if only to himself, that part of it was also jealousy. Mirajane was by far the person that Makarov fell back on the most and, though a lot of that had to due with her willingness to help him with the most mundane tasks around the hall, he also just found her attractive. Which there was nothing wrong with.
Up until that point. He couldn't be…gawking at his grandson's girlfriend.
Could he?
Maybe.
It was still early though, he tried to tell himself many times, to call Mira that. He truly had no idea how close the two of them were. Perhaps he was just reading too much into things. He was just a pervy old man, projecting his own fantasies of his youth on his grandson and one of the more attractive women in the guild.
Yes. That was all.
Just when he had himself nearly convinced of that, however, something new popped up.
Mira began spending her breaks down in the bookroom.
Which wouldn't have been too odd. She did spend most of the day up at the bar, in all the hustle and bustle. Some peace and quiet was probably nice.
No, the weird part was the fact that typically Laxus was soon to follow her down there.
Makarov tried to ignore it. Honest, he did. And he even avoided going down there to break it up each time it happened. Laxus took jobs so frequently that it wasn't often.
The thing that bothered him the most, really, was the way that everyone else seemed to just be oblivious to it.
For the Thunder God Tribe's obsession with Laxus and Mira's overbearing siblings as well as friends, one would think that it was all anyone could talk about. But the Thunder Legion was busy trying to impress him with their solo jobs for trial times and Mira's siblings were always off on jobs just the two of them.
No, it seemed to only be him that was interested in the love life of Laxus and Mirajane. And really, not even that. He knew that his grandson would date around with different women in Magnolia and such and, more than once, he'd had to listen to Mirajane go on and on about whatever man she was seeing at the time. And he was fine with both of those (except maybe having to listen to Mira blab about men, only because when she got started, she never knew how to shut up). Honest, he was.
It was just the thought of the two of them together that bothered him.
It wasn't until one day, after he accidentally fell asleep in his office and didn't wake up until after hours that he finally had to say something.
He could hear Mirajane, out there in the bar area still, closing up. At first he thought that she was just with one of her siblings or something as they had a habit of staying with her after hours, until the giggling started.
"-can't do that, demon," he heard his grandson grumble of the sound of her laughter. "I have a reputation to keep, you know."
"But you would just look so good in pink, Lax," the woman insisted through her giggles. "Don't you think?"
"No."
"Lax."
"If you say so, then maybe," he told her with what sounded like some laughter of his own. "But that don't mean that it's happenin'."
"You wear purple shirts."
"Purple is manly."
"Am I talking to you or my brother?"
"It is."
"You'd look great in pink, Lax. Swear."
"Yeah, well, you can keep swearin'. Don't make much of a difference to me."
More giggles. Then, "Can you go put these jewels in the safe? Please? Then we can get out off here."
"Can I? Can I?"
"Lax-"
"Of course I can. Silly demon."
Makarov felt like he was dreaming. The sound of his grandson's thick soled boots on the floor out in the hall though was very real. And, when the door to the office opened, Makarov only sat up at his desk and stared.
Laxus had about the same reaction. Just staring.
Softly, as not to alert Mirajane to his presence, Makarov said, "Close the door."
The slayer only blinked, as if in shock, before moving to do what the man said.
"I thought you were-"
"Gone?" When Laxus nodded, he said, "I don't see how me being gone would have given you the right to put moves on Mirajane."
"Put moves on? What decade is this? And, for your information, Gramps, I haven't done anything, so-"
"Dragon. Are you hurrying?" Mira was a little impatient, it seemed. "Do you remember the combination? Do I need to come-"
"No, no," he called back to her. "I got it, demon."
"Okay," she sang. "But hurry. If this storm starts before we leave, then I'm getting to wear your jacket and you're going to get soaked."
"Alright," he yelled back, trying his hardest to keep his pitch neutral. No need to get the demon suspicious and to come back there. "Be there in a second."
"I'll put it on anyways, just in case."
"I said alright, Mira!"
Sheesh.
Makarov only continued to stare at him though. Raising one of the signature eyebrows that all the Dreyar men seemed to share, he asked, "Dragon?"
"Shut up, old man," he hissed, frowning at his grandfather as he came further into the office, jewels in hand. "And what? Huh? You takin' to spying on me or something?"
"It depends."
"On?"
"What exactly you've been doing with Mirajane."
"None of your dang business."
"I've noticed, Laxus," he said then. "The way the two of you have been acting together."
"What way? We're not-"
"And now after tonight-"
"We were just talking. That's-"
"Dragon, are you sure you're okay back there?" Mira was unrelenting. "If you need help, just ask."
"I'm fine, Mira, thanks," he volleyed back.
"Well, I know how hard a time you have with asking for-"
"I do not."
"Yes, you do. Remember that time that you couldn't find your headphones and we almost missed our reservation, but you wouldn't just tell me that was what you were looking for?"
"Yes, Mira, I-"
"Even though, really, you shouldn't use your headphones when you take me out. It's rude, you know, dragon."
"I got that. We've gone over it. Now just wait a second and I'll be right there, okay?" Glaring at his grandfather then, he said in a much softer voice, "We'll finish this later."
"Oh, believe me," Makarov grumbled as the man went to put away the jewels finally. "We will."
They did too. The very next day, Laxus was over at the man's home bright and early to hash it out.
"How long have you been abusing guild rights?"
That was how Makarov opened the door. Laxus only stared in shock at him.
"Abusing?" Growling then, he shoved his way into the house. "I ain't abusin' nothin'. Me and Mirajane are just seein' one another. It has nothing to do with the guild."
"The time you spent with one another appears to also happen on guild property, during her working hours. Violation. Abuse."
"Shut up, Gramps." He only came further into the house to go take a seat on the couch. "And why is this such a big deal to you?"
"Why are you hiding it?" the old man challenged as he followed, though he sat in his usual recliner. "If it is not a big deal?"
"We weren't hidin' it from you," Laxus grumbled as he relaxed on the couch. "At all."
"Then what were you doing?"
"Hidin' it from the others!" Laxus gave him a crazed look. "Could you imagine if this got out to the Thunder Legion? Or even just Freed? And forget about Mira's creepy siblings. Or her friends. That damn Lucy, she'd tell that stupid cat and he'd blab it to everyone. No. We couldn't have that."
"And why not? Hmmm?"
"Mira won't let anyone breathe without spreading stuff about them," he grumbled. "You think that they'd just all let this pass without a problem?" Snorting, he added, "I don't want those idiots meddling in my relationship."
"So now it is a relationship?"
"Of course it's one. Why wouldn't it be one? Me and Mira are seeing one another," he said. "A lot of one another. And-"
"And are you seeing other people as well?"
Feeling a lot less relaxed then, Laxus shifted on the couch. "Huh?"
"You heard me."
"Not that it's any of your concern-"
"It very much so is."
"How? Huh? I'm your grandson, you know," he grumbled. "Mira's just your stupid employee."
"Yes, well, I happen to like her a lot more than you, as it is."
"Figures." Shaking his head, Laxus said, "Me and Mirajane are very content with how things are, thanks."
"That's not what I asked."
"I'm committed to her, alright? Sheesh. What is this? A third degree?" Shifting some more, Laxus said, "Me and Mirajane have been seein' one another exclusively for a month or two now, if you're gonna be all nosey about it. And I'd appreciate it if you kept it to yourself, thanks."
"You do realize that if something went south between the two of you-"
"It won't."
"-it could cause problems in the guild, right?" Makarov was glaring at him then. "I rely on Mirajane for many things. If you run her off-"
"I'm not going to."
"Surely you understand how costly having relations in the guild can be."
"I'm not having relations," Laxus grumbled. "I'm have a relation. Relationship. Seriously, Gramps, relations makes it sound a lot worse than-"
"The only thing worse than this would be if you were with… No. This the worst. This is the absolute worst."
"You are being dramatic."
"Laxus, you are not known for lasting relationships," his grandfather pointed out.
"Yeah, and I just remember that constant mother and grandmother in my life growing up to show me how. Thanks for that, Gramps."
"That is my exact point," he said. "You're just as bad as any of us. And that would be fine. If you weren't sleeping with a guild member. And an important one at that. A very important one."
"So what? I could have my pick of the lowely-"
"Yes! You could have!" Makarov huffed then, shaking his head. "But as it stands now, you're going to have to stay with Mirajane forever. Or at least until she's done with you. Either that or I'll banish you before her. I promise you that. Because something tells me the two of you will not be adult about separating. At all."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, old man. And for, you know, shipping me off in this imaginary scenario even though it very well could be Mira that breaks my heart."
That time, he got a bored look from the elderly man. "Do not kid, Laxus."
"I'm serious." Crossing his arms over his chest, Laxus looked off as he said, "I happen to really enjoy Mirajane. I wouldn't have kept this going if I didn't. You think that I want to make things all complicated? No. But she's very…well…"
"Yes, I'm aware."
"But it's more than that," he insisted, as if his grandfather had rebuked him for what he said. "She gets me."
"Mirajane," Makarov repeated dryly, "gets you."
"Yeah."
"Mirajane Strauss."
"Yes."
"The same woman who came to me with a cartoon drawing as blueprints for the guild when it was-"
"The same."
"Laxus, surely you're more complex than that."
"And surely you know that Mirajane is much more complex than that." He wasn't backing down on that one. At all. "She's smart…in some aspects. A lot of them, actually. And she likes to brag on me, which is a plus."
"I'd bet."
"She's real tough too. Someone I can train with and not worry about hurting," he went on. "Really, we're just perfect for one another."
Makarov blinked. Then, slowly, he said, "Tell me, Laxus, that you do not think that you are-"
"I am," he said with a nod, not even needing his grandfather to finish his sentence. "I'm in love with her."
"Oh, Laxus."
"It's true. And she is with me." Leaning forwards then, he said, "So you better just get over it, Gramps. What? You think that she was holdin' out for you or somethin'?" Snort. "Hardly. And keep your old man eyes off her from now on."
Turning red, the man looked away. "I don't know what you-"
"I know you, Gramps. Erza? Cana? Laki? Take 'em. Look at 'em. I don't care. Bu the demon's mine now. Off limits."
"You-"
"Off," Laxus grumbled, "limits. To you and all your creepy old men friends. Mira's a lady."
Sighing loudly then, Makarov said slowly, "Is this how it will be then?"
"How what will be?"
"You," the man said, raising a finger at him. "This is the only time I've ever heard you talk about a woman in such a-"
"This is the first time you've asked me about one," Laxus pointed out. "But fine. You're right. The demon's different. She-"
"Stop with all this demon stuff. Please."
"I can't." Then, for the first time, Laxus grinned, real big. "You should be happy, Gramps, really, when you think about it."
"And why," he asked slowly, "should I be that?"
"'cause, accordin' to the demon, we're together forever now and she's gonna have my babies." He winked at the man. "You'll finally get her in the family."
"All this after only a few months?"
"Mira and I are very serious," Laxus told him. "So be prepared, yeah? You'll be footing the bill for the wedding."
"I think I would much rather be in the grave by that point."
"Careful what you wish for, Gramps," Laxus told him with a wag of the finger. "And you know that you'd rather be related to her than me anyhow."
"Oh, I think I've made that clear already." His head was spinning then. "You and Mira are serious enough that you've discussed-"
"Mira sees a good opportunity when it's presented to her," Laxus said, rubbing at his chest as he sat back up. "I don't think you get, Gramps, how great of a catch I am. I'm only a god embodied."
"Only," Makarov repeated with a roll of his eyes.
"Whose better babies to have. Huh? And a top mage like me at that? No way she could pass up on this sweet deal."
"Now it's a deal?"
"She's gettin' my jewels, my genes, and just me in general. What would you call it?"
Makarov only groaned. "Poor Mirajane."
"What?" Growling, Laxus said, "Gramps, you-"
"And all this time I thought she had a head on her shoulders."
"She does!"
"To make a decision like this-"
"Ain't nothin' final," Laxus reminded. "But don't think it'll take long now."
Makarov could only continue to shake his head. "I should have warned her. Kept her far form you. Something."
"Stop talkin' like I've done somethin' wrong. I haven't. Me and the demon are meant to be. We're divine."
"Surely there's someone I can introduce her to," Makarov mused. "Someone much more suitable. Yes. Anyone will do. Perhaps that Sting fellow. He's a guild master. Very-"
"I," Laxus growled, "would be a guild master by now if you'd just go ahead and die! Not to mention, Mirajane don't want him. Or anybody. But me. And you're kinda being a sour grandfather here, you know."
"Perhaps Gray-"
"Now you're just screwing with me." And riling him up. Very effectively. Glaring over at the other man, Laxus said, "I take her nice places, I don't ever yell at her, we hardly ever fight, I do whatever she wants, I take good care of her, I put up with all this baby talk when, really, it kinda freaks me out sometimes how mapped out she has our life together already-"
"I am only teasing, my boy," Makarov sighed. Sorta. "You and Mirajane are…both very important to me. And though this is rather shocking, all I ask is that you do not hurt her."
"Never." Then he frowned. "And hey! Are you gonna tell her to not hurt me or are you just being sexist over here?"
"You deserve to be hurt."
"You are just a sour old man, aren't you?" Settling back into the chair then, Laxus told him, "Mirajane and I are in this for the long haul. So you better get used to it."
"Considering you are both still very much so intent with hiding it-"
"From the others." Shrugging, he said, "Now that you know, there'd be no point in keepin' anything from you. I'll tell Mira that you found out and I'm sure it'll make her plenty happy."
"Please, don't," Makarov was quick to say. "It has been nice these past few months, not having to have a status update on her relationships. I'd rather not-"
"Just for that," and the fact he'd been so rude to Laxus over the whole thing, "I'm tellin' her."
It wasn't as if Makarov thought he'd keep it from her for long anyhow.
A day didn't pass before Makarov get all caught up in the relationship. Mira came in the office just to detail it to him. About how great Laxus was and how in love they were and how great everything was.
"I didn't mean to do all this behind your back-"
"It's quite alright, Mira," Master Makarov sighed as she continued to pace around the room, him just slumped in his chair, waiting for her break to finally end, as well as his torture. "Honestly, I-"
"Laxus is just so great. Really. He makes me really happy."
"That's wonderful. Now-"
"And if you're uncomfortable with any of this or think that it's wrong, you know, 'cause of the guild or that it crosses too many lines," she said slowly, "then I completely understand. And we'll-"
The man only forced a smile for her then. "I would think nothing for the sort."
Thankfully it was about that time that Lisanna called out for her sister that her break was over and they were getting slammed. Which relieved Makarov of listening to the woman. For the time being. If he knew Mirajane the way he thought he did, she'd be back later, to finish telling him about Laxus and her first date (she kept interrupting herself and never rightly got through it).
As annoyed as he wanted to be by the whole thing (as he still wasn't certain that his grandson wouldn't end up crushing the woman and he would absolutely hate that), it was hard to feel negatively about it when Mira's infectious smiled accompanied every word of her speech about it. She seemed to be very happy and, though he still wasn't sold on the whole thing, Makarov wanted to be happy for her too.
Oh, and his grandson, albeit begrudgingly. If Laxus was finally ready to have a steady romantic life, then that was definitely a good thing. Would Makarov have rather he tried that lifestyle out on someone other than Mirajane? Sure. But on the off chance that it did all work out (though he wasn't putting any money on it), he couldn't think of anyone better to welcome into his family.
If the time came. And, as more weeks were added and he observed more and more off Mirajane and Laxus' behavior, he wouldn't say that it was a sure thing, but it was definitely something nice to think about.
So fine, he was old. And yes, his luck with women had always run bad. But Laxus was young. And his was starting to look up.
Honestly, what more could Makarov ask for?

"-tell me that he thinks that I shouldn't be with my woman? Fuck that. I don't think you should be with Ever."
"You're not a man! Your words have no value to me!"
"Boys, enough," Ever groaned as she laid with her head against the table, it pounding slightly from all the yelling. "Honestly, you two-"
They didn't hear her though as they continued to stand there, the table between them, as they glared at one another. Mirajane was standing too, off to the side, a hand against her lips as she watched, as if transfixed.
"Oh dear," she whispered. "I never expected this. And all over-"
"I'm the fucking man in this house," Laxus growled, snarling his lips back to show off in canines. "You're just the little boy who cries every time anyone doesn't-"
"Crying is manly!"
"If this is all we're going to do tonight, Elfman, I think I'm going to leave." Evergreen slowly lifted her head then, trying to force her boyfriend to make eye contact with her. He wouldn't. "Alright?"
"Don't leave, Evergreen," Mira said, frowning slightly. "They're just playing. Right, guys?"
"I'll fucking rip your head off."
"You're not enough of a man to do that!"
"And," Mirajane went on, speaking louder in order to be heard over the sound of the two of them arguing. "We haven't finished with Lisanna. I mean, how is she supposed to know to get back with Bickslow if we don't-"
"Uh, Mira? Look around. Lisanna fled," Evergreen said as she went over to the pot of stew to get herself a bowl to go. "And believe me, Mira, when I say that we are the last people that Lisanna would want deciding something like that."
"Of course we are. We're her family. And we-"
"It doesn't matter what man she brings into this family," Ever told her as she headed to the backdoor. Then, nodding over at Elfman and Laxus, she said, "So long as he can hold his own in a fight, he'll fit right in."
After she left, Mira got a little concerned about where Lisanna had run off to, afraid that they had upset or offended her. As she was leaving the kitchen though, the real scuffle between her brother and boyfriend broke out. She heard them fighting then and turned to walk back in…just as Laxus shot off a strike of lightening or something and hit her pot of stew. The force was enough to send it flying.
And it wasn't the fact that he'd gotten stew everywhere. Oh no. It was the fact that she'd gotten off early, just to make Lisanna some stew to help her feel better and they'd ruined it. And over what? A fight? A stupid little argument?
"You bit dopes!" Suddenly, Mirajane was back in full force, her eyes darkening quickly. "I made that for Lisanna!"
Laxus, who'd shoved Elfman off him, only made a face at her. "It was just some damn stew, stupid. So- Oh, Mira."
The crying wasn't immediate. Her fleeting anger was dissipating quickly though and it always left her all mopey.
"Nice going," Elfman grumbled as he pushed himself up. "Now you made big sis cry. Real men wouldn't do that!"
"I'm not stupid," Mirajane yelled at both of them through her tears. She wasn't. And she really, really hated when anyone said otherwise. "I'm not. You're both stupid! You're so stupid that you scared Lisanna off. Thanks a lot. Stupids!"
"Stupids isn't a-"
Laxus only shook his head at Elfman. It was not a good time for a grammar lesson.
As they were busy trying to console their little demon, Lisanna was trying to deflate some of the happiness her little doll was feeling.
"Papa," Pappa was cheering as they neared the man's apartment. He was no doubt beginning to recognize some of the scenery. "Papa."
"Alright, Pappa," Lisanna sighed as he fluttered around. "Be good. We're almost there."
Oh, he knew. He more than knew. It was rare that he and the other dolls were separated from Bickslow for more than an hour or two at most, much less each other. Though he'd wanted to go see Lisanna, now that he had, he wanted nothing more than to be with the other dolls and his daddy again. They were all he really knew, after all.
But Lisanna was not nearly as excited about going to the apartment. Mainly because she still wasn't sure what she wanted. An apology would be a nice place to start, but even after she got it, then what? Did she really want to try dating Bickslow again? She wasn't sure.
The only thing that was for certain for her was that she wanted those few days back. They'd been…stellar. Unlike any other. She felt really happy then. But if it was going to be like that, euphoria that would only be taken out from under your feet at the most inopportune moments, then no, she definitely didn't want to get back with Bickslow. No way.
Did it have to be that way though? She wasn't sure. It wasn't like she had a butt load of experience to go off. She knew that Evergreen and Elfman didn't fight very often, but they were rather odd to begin with. They refused, at times, to even acknowledge the other, but you get a little alcohol in them and they were all over one another. And just let Elfman even so much as glance at another woman. Ever would flip, even if only moments before she'd claimed to not even think of him as a friend.
So they were too weird to be considered in the study.
And Laxus and Mirajane weren't much better. They were polar opposites on the outside. But when they were alone, they were just alike. Mirajane had one goal in mind; keeping her siblings safe. And Laxus wasn't too far off. He just wanted to keep Mira protected. And yeah, when they fought, it was practically cataclysmic. There was yelling and throwing off things, any thing, and Laxus would take all his stuff from the house or she'd gather her things from his apartment and they'd refuse to speak to one another. He wouldn't even go up to the guild for days at a time, even if he needed something, just to avoid her.
But then she'd miss him and seek him out, promising never to act like a raving lunatic again. Or he'd get cold in the middle of the night and show up on their doorstep, claiming softly, hoping only she could hear, that he needed her to sleep at night. That when she wasn't all snuggled up to him, he'd toss and turn and have nightmares. And Mirajane didn't want her little-wittle dragon slayer to have bad dreams, did she? He needed his demon to scare the monsters away.
They were sick, Laxus and Mira were. They had to be. Lisanna and Elfman got ill just from eavesdropping on them (which they did constantly).
So no, no matter how in love she was with a guy, Lisanna never ever wanted to be like Laxus and her sister. Ew. Gross.
Then there was Juvia and Gray, but that relationship was so far from anything in her realm of possibilities for herself that she didn't even consider it. And of course, there was Cana and Bacchus, who recently had begun meeting up in different places to get drunk and then screw.
Maybe that was the closest to the relationship that she currently had. There were no commitments, not really, and there were no rules. Cana could do whatever she wanted when Bacchus wasn't around and vice versa. There was no jealousy and no questioning. They were together when they were, well, together and when they weren't, they just weren't. It was easy, simple, and as far as she knew, worked like perfection.
For them anyhow.
But she had felt, as much as she hated to admit it, special. Or at least she thought she thought she had been, to Bickslow. But maybe it was all just another game to him? And the only reason that he was trying to get her back was because he wasn't finished with it yet?
Or maybe because he thought it would smooth things over with Laxus if he was at least kind to her. Stayed with her for another week or two and let her be the one to break it off with him, in a more controlled, mature way. Could that be it?
She didn't want that to be it. She wanted him to want her back because, well, because he'd had as much fun as she had those few days. Because he wanted to be around her, wanted to hangout, wanted to stay up late and talk or go for walks or just be near each other. Because in those few days, that's exactly what she had wanted. Exactly. But apparently, that week had been enough for him.
There was another, a very more prominent relationship that, of course, was also sticking out in her mind. One that she didn't even really like to think about, but obviously craved for herself. Had wanted since she was a child.
It just was too perfect, all of it, the way that Natsu and Lucy were with one another. Almost fake. As if a flaw was right in front of all their noses and somehow they were just missing it.
But there wasn't one. Or at least there didn't appear to be. Because even that garb that Lucy had thrown at her earlier, about how they'd almost broken up before, meant nothing. Because they didn't. And within three days, they were right back with one another, happy and content, being the prodigy couple that everyone secretly scorned.
Or at least she secretly scorned them. Because they had it all. They were both gorgeous, had personalities that overly complimented one another, both got along great, were part of the best team in all of Fairy Tail. There was hardly anything wrong with them at all.
And it should have been her. It should have been her and Natsu, together forever. He should have been her dragon slayer, not Lucy's. And they'd have been so happy together. Wouldn't they have been? They always had been. Even when they were kids and were playing house with Happy, they'd been overly content. Sure, at times Natsu would get a little frustrated or embarrassed by her insistence that they be together always, but hadn't he loved her back? She knew that he had. He had to have.
Then how could he just be with Lucy? And be so…optimal with her? They legitimately were the best couple in all of Fairy Tail. They were wholly devoted to one another. Neither so much as ever flirted with another person. They were together nearly the entire day every day, yet they were slow to anger. And how could that be, anyhow?
Every silly little thing Natsu did, Lucy got annoyed with. Totally. But Lisanna, she was in love with all his childish antics. All of them. She honestly thought every single thing he did was cute or creative. She just got him in a way that someone like Lucy never could.
But it didn't matter. He didn't care that Lucy got upset when he danced around on the tables in the guildhall or was annoyed when he'd track mud all through her apartment. He didn't care that Lisanna straight up craved the attention he showered upon Lucy, who at times acted indifferently to it. It just didn't matter.
Because he wanted Lucy. And Lucy wanted him. And she wanted-
"I want Bickslow."
It was a whisper, really, something that shouldn't have left her mouth. Her brain should have held on to that one.
But did that not make it all the more true? If she couldn't even keep it to herself?
Because…maybe it was time to face that facts. Natsu belonged to Lucy for the time being. And that didn't mean it would be forever. That didn't even mean it would last another year. But it also didn't mean that she should just waste her life, waiting around for him to realize how alike they were and how much they really belonged together.
Because then she just might miss who she really belonged with.
And maybe it wasn't Bickslow. That was fine. At the moment though, he was just the one that was in front of her. And even though the past two days had been horrible and she'd been miserable without him, before that had been…well…the closest to what Natsu and Lucy had that she'd ever been. And if that's what she was striving for, if that's what she really wanted, then maybe she should just take Natsu out of the equation and just go for the relationship with someone else.
When they finally made it to the apartment, Pappa couldn't contain himself. He was flying all around as they walked into the building and up the stairs to Bickslow's floor. It'd have been easier to take the elevator, but Lisanna just wanted some more time to think. A deep part of her was hoping that when they got there he wouldn't be. And maybe he'd have left his place unlocked so she could just stash Pappa in there and leave.
But then she'd feel bad for poor Pappa. He had given up on a day with his papa and the other dolls just to be with her. She really hadn't been aware that the dolls liked her that much. She knew that they thought she was fun and that she was a good buffer for just having Bickslow to play with all day, but really, she hadn't done much for them. For them to actually seek her out, even if it was only one of them, well, that was just amazing.
Still though, walking back into that apartment was not something she was looking forward to. She had told herself when she left that night, in tears over how rude he'd been to her, that she'd never return. He'd hurt her, after all. He really had. No one had ever been that mean to her. Ever.
And there's no way that they would be considering who her sister and brother were. Not to mention now that Laxus and Evergreen were in the mix, she was pretty well protected. But Bickslow hadn't cared about any of that. Because there was no avoiding the fact that she'd hurt him too.
And she had. Hadn't she? She was pretty sure. And maybe that's what made everything that happened that night invalid. Sure, there were things that you said that couldn't be taken back, things that had a tad bit of truth intermingled in them that kept you from ever trusting the other person again. So yes, maybe Lisanna had gone out that first night, looking for someone, anyone to give her some amount of attention. And yeah, she had just been looking for a substitute for Natsu.
But so what? Even though he'd said it, it wasn't anything that in the darkness of her own mind she hadn't admitted to herself before. It was true. It was so true. And could she really blame him for being honest? Even if his honesty was only veiled as a hurtful remark?
Because if he really thought that, if he really did think he was just a substitute, for her sister, brother, and Natsu, then didn't he have a right to be a little sour towards her?
And then she was on his floor, then in front of his door, and she didn't get a chance to knock before Pappa was banging himself against the door loud enough to constitute as such a thing.
"Pappa, calm down," she complained, frowning up at the baby. "It's been a day. Not even that. Honestly, stop it."
But then the door was opening and Bickslow was standing there and he looked so hot because his hair was still styled and his helmet was off and he wasn't wearing any of that usual junk. Just a pair of jeans and no shirt and she wanted him. And…and…and…
Oh, goodness. Is that why it's so hard for Mira and Laxus to break up? Because just the sight of one another makes them feel what she was feeling? If so, then she owed them some apologies. Because, gah! There was no willpower in the world, none that she herself could ever possess at least, that could make her withstand those feelings.
"Papa!" Pappa flung himself into Bickslow's bare chest, making a horrible smacking noise when he collided with the flesh. When he backed up some, Lisanna saw the massive welt it'd left.
"Pappa," Bickslow complained as the doll then flew passed him and over to the other babies, who were equally excited to see him. "Buddy, too rough."
Then it was just Lisanna and Bickslow, standing there, on opposite sides of the door and all she could do was stare at his chest, where Pappa had slammed into him, and hope that he was okay. It was a silly thing to think, really. Bickslow was, after all, one of the toughest guys around. A member of the Thunder God Tribe. It wouldn't have hurt him that much.
But still. She didn't like the way it bruised almost immediately. He had to have at least felt it somewhat. Right?
But then he was speaking and her eyes drifted from his welt and up to his face. His eyes.
"Thought you'd show up eventually. You-"
"Are you a complete asshole or what?"
Those words had just come out too. Right out of her usually so pure mouth. Huh.
"Wh-What?" He was taken aback then, but she wasn't finished. He'd been the one to open the dialogue, but he was in no way the one to control it.
"You have to be, like, the worst father ever. Do you know how scared he was? How upset? And then you just freaking came over, left more stuff, and didn't pick him up?" She couldn't help it. It really had upset her, the way that he'd just left Pappa behind when the souls loved him so much. They needed him. They craved him. And he had just given one to her? Someone that a month ago he wouldn't even call a friend? "They're your babies, Bickslow. Not toys. And you-"
"Sheesh, woman. If you're going to start yelling, at least come in," he grumbled, reaching out to grab the finger she was wagging at him and using it to pull her into the apartment, slamming the door behind her. "It's the middle of the fucking night."
Then she was in there, in his apartment once more, and the babies were calling her name, overly excited to see her again. And Pappa was floating around, glad to be home, even coming to rest on Bickslow's shoulder after a moment.
His papa just kept staring down Lisanna though, whose temper was usually sporadic and was already fading. She was only standing there then, flushed from her outburst as well as that her embarrassment over being around him once more. Bickslow was only waiting though, thinking there was more to her anger. When there proved not to be, he spoke.
"I don't get you, kid," he said then, almost glaring at her. "I give you one of my babies for the day, I buy you a cake, flowers, all that jazz. You know? Most women would take a guy back in a second. Especially after one fight. After all that work I put into-"
"All that work?" Some of her fight was returning then. "What work? Huh? What have you done, Bickslow, that-"
"What have I done? Are you serious? I've-"
"You haven't even had the courage to talk to me. To apologize. You-"
"What do you think all those presents were, Lisanna?"
"Nothing as far as I'm concerned," she told him with a scowl. "That's not an I'm sorry, Bickslow. That's just trying to buy me off."
"It is not. I was-"
"You were trying to get me to forget that I'm upset. But I'm not going to, Bickslow." She was glaring at him then as she said, "You were wrong to me. You did me way wrong. You-"
"Last time I checked, Lissy, you weren't too freaking clean in all this either."
"Don't call me that!"
"And why the heck not? Huh? I'll call you whatever I want." He crossed his arms then. "I didn't see you coming, barging my door down either."
"What heck do you call this, Bickslow? I came here and-"
"Only one of us could go to the other, kid. And if I had gone to you first, what? Would I be able to be mad that you didn't come to me? Huh? No. So-"
Just then, there was the sound of wood cracking. It was rather loud too. Both of them turned at the sound, finding the source easily.
In all their over excitement, the babies had begun flying around. And when Bickslow and Lisanna started arguing, well, they had gotten a little frenzied and gone crazy. In the process, Pippi and Poppo had flown in to each other at a high speed, much like Pappa had done to Bickslow's chest. Only their bodies, while durable, did have a tendency to crack at times. And at the moment, Pippi was lying with one of his wings broken off and Poppo had been spit in half.
"Oh no," Lisanna whispered, shocked for a moment while Bickslow only rushed over. He raised a hand and quickly did something. Not a moment later, a coffee mug that had been left on the table became airborne, the remnants of whatever he'd been drinking flying everywhere as whichever baby was now in control of it went crazy.
"Behave, Pippi," Bickslow growled as another cup on the coffee table began to move around. "Both of you. All of you, really. Daddy has to go make new bodies."
He was completely ignoring her then as he headed into his bedroom. Curiosity won out and, instead of just leaving or waiting for him in the living room, Lisanna followed.
Bickslow was over by his closet, reaching up to the top shelf in there and pulling down a shoe box. Setting it on the ground, he then reached up again and pulled down some tiny bottles of paint. Without even looking at Lisanna, he eventually growled, "You gonna help or what, kid?"
She froze for a moment, just staring at him, before coming closer. Neither had turned on the light and it was nearly completely dark in the room. There was some moonlight streaming in from the window, but most of the light came from the cracked bedroom door, which was allowing the lamp that was on in the living room to give them a sliver of light.
Coming closer to him, she slowly dropped down onto her knees when he did it first, right in front of the little box. He only moved to open it, revealing a plethora of those same little wooden bodies that his babies sported.
"I buy in bulk," he whispered softly, his tone taking a softer pitch. Still, he only reached into the box and pulled two of the dolls out. Then, settling them on the ground, he went back into the box to pull out a paint brush.
"Go get a paper plate from the kitchen," he told her then. "And a cup of water. Quickly. And leave the babies out there. They only end up knocking over the paint when they're around."
Slowly, she pushed up and went to do as he asked. The babies were still floating around in the living room, making happy noises as Pippi continued to spill liquid everywhere. She figured they'd clean it up later.
When she got back to him, Bickslow already had the caps off some of the bottles and was awaiting her. When she gave him the paper plate, he immediately poured some of the paints on it before getting to work mixing them. He was a pro at it by that point, the self appointed master in a game that no one else ever got to play.
She wasn't much help, really. She more or less just sat there, watching him as he worked. He did it with such precession, much more concentration than he ever gave anything else in his life.
He really cared about those dolls, after all.
There were no words spoken between them as he worked. She only sat on her knees, watching. He wouldn't even look at her. Just the little dolls. He did Pippi first. And when his was finished, he started on Poppo.
"There," he said eventually, setting the doll down on the floor, next to the other complete one. "Now they just have to dry. Else the babies will smear the paint."
And then they were just sitting there, next to each other, in otherwise darkened and desolate bedroom.
"You kept the floor clean," she whispered weakly at one point. He only kept staring at her though.
"Of course I did,' he told her softly. "We cleaned it up together, after all."
And he was just so close to her. And when she tilted her head just right and when he did the same and then they were and it was and…oh.
He was over her and she thought she'd never feel that again, not with him. But he wasn't done. And he was kissing her, but that was okay, because she was kissing him back. There was more, of course there was more. It had been building in her that whole time. The tumultuous sorrow and angst that she'd felt since their fight was changing then, shifting, back into those same feelings that had confused her from the beginning.
Lust. That was more than likely what it was. What Mirajane would say it was. And she was fine with calling that. It was only a word. It didn't do it justice, however, whatever it was that she was feeling, what he was doing to her, but it was a fine word. As good as any other.
And it should have felt awkward, down there on his bedroom floor, right next to the future bodies of Pippi and Poppo, but it didn't. Not even when they could hear the babies out in the living room, through the cracked door, snickering and floating around. Because it was so easy to block it out, block everything out. For Lisanna at least. Just so long as he kept doing that thing with his fingers. Oh, she'd be fine.
"Bickslow," she whispered as one point, almost hurriedly. His head was down in her neck, but at the sound of his name, he lifted it some.
"Mmmm?" He was rubbing against her leg and just… Gah!
"I want to," she whispered. He only blinked.
"Want to?"
"Please?"
And then he was laughing, rather loudly. But as not to get the babies worried and coming in there to ruin their fun, he hid his chuckles in her neck. And his jeans, which he'd only wiggled down to his ankles, were being kicked off then. He just as quickly moved to pull his wallet out of his pocket then and pull a little foil package from it.
And Lisanna only closed her eyes. It was just all too much.
Once it was over and he was done and she was beyond done, he only laid there, snuggling her and promising never to fight again. And she just let him make a fool of himself, because what difference did it make? It had been…different than the first time, but she still hadn't rather liked it. Maybe she just needed more practice?
"I missed you, Lissy," he was mumbling against her ear. He didn't sound very grownup then. To miss someone after only a few days. But she just let it go, didn't bring it up to him. Because maybe his insistence that she be so mature, act like an adult was just a cover for the fact that even though he had years on her, he still was just as childish and juvenile as she'd ever been.
She only laid there though, letting him kiss and cuddle her. She didn't feel like she could do much else. She really, really, just wanted to go home and think about it all, but he didn't seem like he was releasing her any time soon. Or ever, really.
"Bickslow."
And his face was over hers again then, as he stared down into her blue eyes. She only grinned slightly though, his face tattoo darkened by the shadowy room, hiding it from her. He almost looked normal.
But he wasn't normal. He was Bickslow. And she was…
"I'm sorry," he whispered to her then, dropping his head again so it was near her ear. "So sorry. I shouldn't have said that about you. Huh?"
Relaxing was the only sign she gave him of her contentment then. Really, she was thinking about her own home, her own shower, and her own bed.
The moment lasted forever it seemed…until it was over. And one of the babies had knocked something over and Bickslow was standing, angry at them for running the moment. He only slipped on his boxers before growling and heading out there.
"One of you better not be broke again, 'cause I ain't makin' another one tonight!"
Lisanna only laid there, on her back, staring up at his ceiling. It was an awkward feeling, as her shorts were still down, around her knees and her shirt had only been unbuttoned, her bra not even unfastened. Her head hurt.
Sitting up, she just pressed a hand to it with a groan. Sex was so weird.
Then she was standing and reorganizing herself again. No need for the babies to learn a new word. For some reason, Naked Lisanna didn't sound half as bad as Scantily Dressed Lisanna. Go figure.

Quests and Drunks.4
"You two look like you wanna drink," was the first thing Cana said when she opened the door of her apartment. "Eh? Eh? Come on in."
"What? No." Lisanna frowned at her as she only leaned heavily against the door, staring out at them. "We're here for our babies."
"Babies, huh?" She stretched one arm over her head, yawning slightly. "I don't have any of those guys, I'm- Oh, hey, you mean your little dollies, huh?"
Bickslow blinked. Already having had enough that day, he merely said, "Yes. I mean my dollies."
Cana nodded slightly. "I had those."
"You do?" Lisanna grinned. "Where-"
"Had," Bickslow repeated. "She said had. Because everyone tonight has had them. They-"
"I got 'em from Erza's boyfriend," Cana said.
"Right," Lisanna said slowly, staring hard at her. "And what did you do with them?"
"I took 'em back to Mirajane," she said with a shrug. "I don't even want human babies. The bar was just closing and-"
"Mira has them!" Lisanna literally threw her arms around Bickslow. "Mira has Pippi and Puppu, Bickslow! And Natsu and Lucy have one, then Gray has the last two. We win!"
"I wouldn't say that we win, Lisanna, until we have all five, back in our hands," he sighed before looking to Cana. "Thanks."
"Sure you guys don't want a drink?" She grinned at them. "I hate drinking alone."
"Weren't you just at Laxus' party all night?"
Her smile turned to a frown as she narrowed her eyes at Lisanna. "Your point?"
"Uh…nothing. Never mind." She forced a smile though it wasn't hard considering she finally, finally knew where all the babies were. "Thanks, Cana."
"So now where? Your sister's?" Bickslow asked as they started out once more. The clouds had parted some and they could see the moon, but the frigid air hadn't let up any. "Or-"
"I know that they're fine with her. She'll probably try to take them to our place. She has a key," Lisanna reasoned. "Either that or keep them."
"Then-"
"I love Natsu and Lucy, but-"
"Right. We should go to them first," Bickslow said, nodding his head. "Before they screw something up."
But it was too late for that. Because in the end, they ran into Lucy and Natsu out on the street, Happy flying over head.
For a moment, Lisanna didn't notice that they were calling for someone as they walked. Instead, she just rushed right to them, throwing her arms around Lucy the second she saw her.
"L-Lisanna."
"Sorry," she giggled as Lucy had to find her footing to keep from toppling over. She just moved on to hugging Natsu, who glanced at Lucy. She only bowed her head.
"I take it that you heard we had one of your-"
"Where is he?" Lisanna asked. "And who do you have?"
"W-Well," Lucy stuttered, glancing at Natsu, but he was calling Happy back down to land. "We're not sure, but-"
"Where is he?" Bickslow asked then. "Did you guys take him to Mirajane too?"
"Not exactly," the blonde mage said as she scratched at the back of her head. "We kinda-"
"Lucy wouldn't let us hold him," Happy accused as he came to rest on the ground. Lisanna only reached down to pat him on the head.
"Yeah," Natsu said, nodding his head. "She insisted that she carry him."
"Well, I was less likely to drop him," she argued, frowning over at him.
"Yeah, but then you had to go and-"
"What," Bickslow began, growing agitated, "happened?"
"Guys?" Lisanna asked, staring at them as the two mages just glared at one another. It was Happy though, staring up at them with his bright eyes, that took to kicking at the ground before speaking.
"We sorta…well…" He sighed. "Lucy lost him!"
"I did not!"
"You didn't lose the baby?" Bickslow asked. "Or-"
"N-No. I did," she said. "Err, well, we did, but-"
"This is no time for schematics!" Bickslow yelled at her.
"I think you mean semantics," Lisanna said softly as Lucy shut her eyes tightly, as if fearful Bickslow would try to possess her. "What do you mean you lost him though?"
"We were trying to take him home because we didn't know where you guys were that you didn't have him," Lucy said. "But he was flipping out. He had been with Gajeel, after all. And then the doll just…got away from me and ran off. I'm sorry. We tried to chase him, but… And he doesn't rightly have a scent."
"I tried, Lisanna," Natsu told her, his face falling some as he looked at her. "How'd you guys lose it anyhow?"
"Bickslow lost them all," she said, finding her anger in him instead of her friends. The night was starting to wear on her and, frustrated to the fullest finally, she turned to hit him in the arm.
"Hey!" He rubbed at where she'd hit, turning to glare at her. "Don't get mad at me. Get mad at your ditzy friend."
"I'm not ditzy," Lucy insisted as Happy only snickered.
"It's not funny, Happy," Lisanna told him. "Seriously."
"I know, I was only-"
"We'll keep looking for them," Lucy said, staring Lisanna in the eyes then. "I mean, he has to-"
"He probably tried to get back home," Bickslow said. "'cept none of 'em are too good directionally. But they usually are able to find one another, if they break away. So he'd have either gone to Gray's place or Mirajane's."
"Gray, huh? He the thief? I bet he is," Natsu said, nodding his head. "That's how come he wouldn't come on our job with us, isn't it? That evil-"
"We're not in the mood, Natsu," Lisanna said before turning to walk away. "Come on. My house is closest. Let's see if Mirajane's home and has them. Then we can go from there."
"We'll go too," Natsu said, trying to fall into step with her.
"No, don't."
"But-"
"Natsu," Lucy said, going to grab his hand, stopping him. Bickslow rushed to keep pace with his girlfriend. "We'll keep looking out here, huh, Lisanna? And if we find him, we'll bring him straight to your apartment this time. Promise."
"Don't know what their problem is," Natsu grumbled after it was just the three of them once more. "We said sorry, didn't we?"
"And we are real sorry," Happy agreed as he took to the air once more. "We'll keep searching too, huh?"
"Just a dumb doll."
"They're not just dolls to them, Natsu," Lucy told him. "They're…their babies or whatever. Like if you lost Happy."
"Not alike at all," Happy told her. "Because he can't lose me. I don't belong to him."
"Happy's a strong independent cat, Luce."
She only rolled her eyes before setting off in the opposite direction of Lisanna and Bickslow. "Let's just get back to looking, huh?"
"Aye, sir!" Happy flew off then and Natsu took off running. They'd find Lisanna her toy if it was that important. They'd find them all!
"So we go to your sister's and then-"
"I don't know, Bickslow," Lisanna told him as she took to crossing her arms. "Alright?"
"Lisanna-"
"I can't believe you gambled them to begin with. You're a horrible father."
"Oh, I'm a horrible father now?"
"You have been this whole time."
"Why are you suddenly so against me here, huh? I thought it was me and you against-"
"You gambled our babies, Bickslow," she hissed at him, throwing a glare out as well. "And now one of them is lost. Not with a guild member, but lost. You know how panicky they get. And if it's Pappa-"
"Stop thinking of the worst things, Lisanna. I'm sure that it was Poppo. He's the best at finding the others. And he's the toughest. So-"
"So what? He still wouldn't have to be looking for the others if it wasn't for-"
"They're my souls, Lisanna," he growled at her then. "Not yours. You're not anything to them! So stop fucking yelling at me and-"
"Go then!" She stopped walking, turning to literally shove him. "Go find them your damn self, Bickslow, and leave me alone."
"Lisanna-"
"No. You're not allowed to walk with me."
"You-"
"Go!" She shoved him again. "Go… Go home and wait for them. Or for me. Whatever. I don't want you around anymore. All you've done is slow me down. I probably-"
"I've slowed you down?" He snorted. "You constantly slow me down, kid. And you wouldn't even know that they were missing if it wasn't for me!"
"Missing? Don't you mean traded?"
"I thought I was going to win, Lisanna!"
"And win what, huh? What would have been so important to win that you would have-"
"Jewels, alright? He was going-"
"Money? You wagered them for-"
"I need it, alright?"
"For what?"
"Well for one, I was going to buy you that damn ring that you fucking asked for. That one that I can't fucking afford otherwise," he growled. "But now you can just forget it! You can get a fucking plastic one for all I care!"
She blinked. Then she turned her back to him. "I don't wanna marry you right now anyways."
"Whatever." He started walking again. "Come on. Let's get Pippi and Puppu. They're probably worried."
It was silent the rest of the way. Lisanna started to feel bad at one point, but Bickslow was just as drunk and stubborn as ever. And honestly, they both wanted to get the babies back more than they cared about making up in that moment,.
When they got to the Strauss house, Lisanna used her old key to get in. The past year or so, Mira mostly just stayed there alone other than when Laxus spent the night, as Lisanna had officially moved in with her boyfriend and Elf spent almost all his time at Ever's, enough so to qualify as moved in.
"Mirajane?" she called out as she entered. "Are you-"
"Lisanna!"
And then she was literally hit in the face by a quick moving object.
"Ow! Damn it, Pippi!"
He only flew back to do it again. Bickslow made him stop though.
"You could have hurt her," he scolded out of habit. Pippi had quite the problem with flying at high speeds into things. Especially when he was excited.
"Lisanna!"
Puppu didn't run into her, but stopped just short of it.
"I think he gave me a black eye," she complained as she came further into the house. Quickly though, she reached out to grab both of the dolls and hold them. "Are you guys okay though?"
"Mira," they sang as she appeared in the entranceway, coming in from the kitchen. "Mirajane."
"Where have you guys been?" Mirajane was in full punishment mode at that point and only glared at them, finger ready to be wagged. "I've looked everywhere! For the other babies too. Cana said something about Erza and Jellal giving them to her, but wouldn't say where Erza got them. She did say that the others were gone. So I went to your place, but were you there? No. You-"
It was an accumulation of things, really. She was tired, Bickslow'd just botched any sort of surprise proposal, honestly she wasn't even sure if he'd ask again, three of the babies were still missing, and, on top of everything, Pippi had just freaking slammed into her face hard enough to shatter glass. Both the dolls and Bickslow stayed very still as Lisanna teared up. Mirajane though, used to this, only went to hug her.
"What happened?" she asked softly as Lisanna only held onto her.
"I tried to fix it all on my own, Mira, but-"
"What happ-"
"Laxus," she told her as she sniffled. "He trick Bickslow into betting on a darts game with the babies back at his apartment. Then he passed them out to everyone when they went home!"
"Everyone?"
"We kinda, sorta, mighta had a party," Bickslow told her as he kicked at the ground. Even he felt like he was being mothered at the moment by the she-demon. "Since you wouldn't let him drink or whatever. And when I lost the bet, he wouldn't give them back. He said that I had to give him something better in order to get them back, but when I brought Lissy back there, he'd given them away. And-"
"And we think that Gray has the others," she sniffled. "But-"
"No, he doesn't," she said. "I have them too."
"How-"
"I was coming back from trying to take them to your place when the other two came flying at us," she said. "Maybe they got away from Gray? I don't-"
"Only two?" she whispered.
She nodded. "But when we got back home, Pippi was so excited, he kinda ran into them and broke their bodies. He keeps smashing things. I think their spirits are trapped in your old bedroom, Lisanna. Or at least I hope. I shut the door. I don't really know how any of this works."
Bickslow walked around them then. Freed might have sealed them, but if their bodies broke, that would shatter the enchantment. Only he could see them then.
When he returned to them, it was with a floating shoe and an old stuffed animal.
"Had to improvise," he told them with a shrug.
"Who-"
"It's Poppo," he said. "And-"
"Peppe," Mirajane finished. "Where-"
"Natsu and Lucy lost him," Lisanna finished before sniffling some more. "Mira, now we'll never find him! He always get so scared of things. And if he shatters out there without Bickslow to see, then-"
"We'll find him, Lissy," Bickslow said. "I-"
"But what if-"
"Hey." Mirajane looked down at her then, grinning slightly. "Pappa's going to be fine. Bickslow and the other dolls are going to go look for him. Aren't you, Bickslow?"
"Of course," he said, nodding his head. "And-"
"And I'm going to go take care of something else, huh? If I see him on the way, I'll catch him." She kissed Lisanna's head before letting her go. "You know that children love their aunt."
Then Lisanna smiled a little bit. "Thanks, Mira."
She only nodded before rushing off to get her coat as they set off to find their last baby.
Mira had somewhere much more important to go, however.
They were out looking for only twenty minutes when they ran into Natsu and Lucy, excitement evident on both their faces. It was Happy though, dropping down from the sky to land on her head that made Lisanna the happiest.
"You found Pappa," she giggled as he spit the doll from his mouth. Pappa didn't like this at first and started to complain until he seemed to realize that all the other dolls were with him. Not to mention Papa and Mama!
"You know we always take care of you, Lisanna," Natsu assured her as Happy only nodded.
"I never thought it was funny," he said as Lisanna only hugged him as Pappa flew around with his other dolls before taking to slamming against Bickslow's chest.
They were all giggling then, even him, as he hugged his babies and Lisanna threw her arms around her friends in thanks.
Their quest was finally complete. But Mira's was only starting.
It was so dark in his bedroom that when Laxus first opened his eyes, he didn't even notice her. It was her scent, really that tipped him off. Then, suddenly, he found himself shooting up in bed.
"Damn it, demon," he growled at the woman who was standing at the side of it, glaring at him. "You scared the shit out of-"
"You wanted a trade, Laxus?" She stared into his eyes, somehow finding them regardless of the darkness. "How about this one. They already got their babies back, but I have a better idea."
"B-Babies?"
"Mmmhmm. I know all about your little party. And for the record, you and your stupid little bodyguards can play whatever kind of games they want, but when my sister comes home crying because you were mean to her, things stop being funny."
"M-Mira, it was only a joke. I was going to give them back. I-"
But then he wasn't speaking to Mirajane any longer as she took on the form of Satan Soul far better than she had after losing her sister all those years ago.
"If you thought me banning you from drinking was bad, Laxus," she began as he only sat there in bed, trying hard not to gulp, "you're about to be in for the shock of your life."
He shut his eyes tightly, hoping that maybe, just maybe, it was all a bad dream. But nope. It wasn't. His girlfriend was standing there, pissed, and about to slaughter him.
"At least make it quick," he whispered before she suddenly pounced him, pinning him to the bed. Laxus only turned his head as she leaned over him, at first pinning his hands down with her demon claws, but then releasing one.
"No," she told him as she took to shaking one of her fingers in his face. Laxus only groaned. "No."
"This is so demeaning."
"Bad dragon."
"Mirajane-"
"You don't take things. Especially not children."
"I'm sorry."
"You better be. And tomorrow, you're going to march your butt into the guildhall and say that to both Lisanna and Bickslow. Then you're going to sit there and not drink as you watch everyone else have a good time without you. Because you were very bad, Laxus Dreyar." She grabbed his jaw with her claw, forcing him to face her. "Open your eyes."
"Mira-"
"Open."
When he did, she only stared at him. "Are you really sorry?"
"Yes. Very. I'll never do it again."
She only sat back some then, staring down at him. "Good. And no spending the night with one another for at least a week."
"What? Mira-"
She only climbed back off him, transforming once more to her normal form. "I'm sorry, Laxus, but you have to be punished."
"This isn't fair!"
He got a look for that. "Do you need another finger wag?"
"No," he groaned, rolling onto his side, giving her his back.
"Good. Now go to sleep. I have to go see if Lisanna got all her babies back."
Grunt. It wasn't until about twenty minutes after she left, when he realized that he couldn't sleep and went to get his Sound Pod to soothe him off that he realized something.
"Demon!" he yelled even though he knew she was long gone. "You are not allowed to take my things!"
Oh, but she was. And, as she made her way back home, his headphones in hand, she knew that she'd be keeping them for a long time.
