While I haven’t gotten to this part of the story yet, I plan for Mary Dahl to get a new look sometime in the future.
Because she wants to thoroughly separate herself from the Baby Doll persona, Mary finally gets her hair cut after years of immense length. Her hair needed to be long for Baby Doll’s curls, but she has let that part of her past go.
With her hair shorter, a hint of natural curls show, no longer weighed down into being straight. She develops a habit of bouncing her hair, twirling her strands, and pulling at her curls when she is bored.
She also gets her ears pierced, favoring pearl earrings.
In addition, she usually wears light makeup or simply lipstick.
While she can have her down days, Mary tries to keep up her appearance, feeling like a new woman when she does.
Being complimented with anything but cute elates her.

“Red, look! I stole back Portia’s things!”
Nevier has a habit of appearing from above after re-learning her acrobatic skills she got from being in a circus! 😄

Mary Meets Miriam (Part 6/?)
Ice cream gone, dishes washed, dried, and put away; Miriam rejoined Mary on the couch.
“Thank you for that,” Mary told Miriam before her gaze drifted to her lap… then back up to her. “...Do you mind if I ask you another question?”
“Oh, uh, no. Go ahead.”
She really hoped this question would be a bit easier…
“You said earlier that no one is satisfied with themselves… but… when I look at you… I just can’t see why. I mean, look at you… you’re so beautiful… Not just normal… but gorgeous. And you’re funny and you’ve been so nice to me… Looks, personality, strength… What’s not to like about you?”
“Oh, gosh,” Miriam scratched at her cheek and let out an awkward laugh. She had not been expecting the barrage of compliments. Her face flushed all the way from her cheeks to her ears, fogging her glasses and leaving it difficult to see. “Th-that’s not… I’m not...”
“You’re not what?” Mary pressed.
“I’m not that great. I mean… a lot of people don’t like me. I don’t like me.”
“But how could that be?” Mary asked skeptically.
Miriam sighed, removed her glasses, and wiped them with a cloth to clear the fog.
“Depends on who you ask. But for me,” she placed her glasses back on. “I say it’s because I’m not really me.”
“What do you mean?”
Miriam let out a sigh as she looked down at her hands. “I don’t know how much of me… is me... I’ve spent so much of my life being forcefully sculpted by my mother… I hate admitting it. I hate her. But she’s such a huge part of me. So much of what she wanted me to be, I am… not enough for her, but too much for me.”
And Mary thought she had issues…
“Well, what parts of you do you think aren’t really you?”
Another sigh.
“Being able to act polite, having any degree of intelligence, knowing how to bake…”
Mary cocked her head and looked at her incredulously.
“So… having any positive traits that were instilled in you by your mother makes them bad?”
“Well, no… But would I have been like this without her? Is this really who I am?”
“I like to think being able to wipe my own ass is really me, even if my mother taught me how.”
Miriam looked at Mary in pure bewilderment before… laughing. Quite loudly. Causing Mary to recoil from volume and mood whiplash.
“I’m sorr-ee-hee-hee!” Miriam cackled from behind her hand. “That was just- ha ha ha! I was so serious right there, but- hee hee hee! Bam! You put an end to that real quick!”
Mary let out a breath, something between a sigh and a laugh.
“Glad I could be of service. So,” the blonde shifted back into a comfortable position, “it’s like you said earlier; that no one’s ever satisfied?”
Miriam took a deep breath to settle herself and let it out in a long sigh.
“Yeah, pretty much.”
