Captain Jim Hawkins Headcanons
Hello hello! I adore writing about Jim Hawkins. Despite the awkward design of him in The Battle at Procyon video game, I have loved exploring his future as a captain. Here are a few of my Captain Jim Hawkins headcanons:
Jim takes risks with his ship and crew on missions. While other Naval Officers would follow protocol to the letter, Jim throws the rule book out the window. This leads to others thinking he's rash and incompetent. In reality, the risks Jim takes are perfectly calculated. He would never put his crew in unnecessary danger for his own ego. He weighs the odds which is why his gambles typically pay off.
He's a young captain. Despite his fellow crew being trained to serve their commanding officer, some can't help but passive-aggressively talk down to Jim. When meeting with base command, Jim will occasionally run into an Admiral or two with more years in the field who see Jim as 'too inexperienced'. While this irritates Jim, he converts the frustration into a drive. He goes out there and rattles the stars despite how people treat him.
He was issued a standard Naval Officer tricorn hat upon graduation, but he never wears it because he prefers the wind in his hair while out among the stars.
He takes great care to oversee his lines and tackle. He's not about to repeat the fear of losing a crew to a lifeline failure.
Sometimes he takes the longboats out on a test run, and the rest of his crew all refuse to join him because of that one time with that one stunt...you know...Jim being Jim.
At first the crew aren't sure how to react around their young captain with his pink shape shifting companion, but Morph quickly becomes a favorite. An annoying favorite, but a favorite nonetheless. Sometimes Jim asks Morph to report in on how the crew are handling their emotions because morale is just as important as a job well-done aboard ship. Morph keeps people in higher spirits on those long or heartless missions.
Mister Onyx is Jim's best friend from the Academy for good reason. Whenever Jim's own emotions are bubbling over or impacting his command of his ship, Onyx acts as an anchor. He essentially forces Jim to sit down and take a breather. He also keeps Jim from making decisions that serve only Jim's passing whimsy and not the collective.
I'll think of more soon, but just my initial first post woo!

ive been thinking about an smt au for bedman or like a world based on smt with all the demon summoning and having a comp... maybe bedman made a special version for himself hmm. or he's like stephen and thats how he got his powers... he can fight with his own powers but reserves it for those who are worthy to fight him. he mostly lets his demons fight for him, mainly the oneiroi with it's leader morpheus who he's closest to. i was thinking morpheus is the kind of demon that takes on the form of its summoners as to reflect them but still look different. in this morpheus is color 20 bedman definitely but ofc his true form is different. or maybe he has no form at all. only romeo and morpheus' brothers know ahaha he changes form when he fights based on what his opponent is weak to edit: also because of romeo becoming a multidimensional being he achieved transcendence

Anifans, fandalites, and miscellaneous followers who probably haven't read animorphs but might still want to answer anyway; if you had the power to morph, what would be your favorite morph, your battle morph, and your flying morph? plus any other morphs you think you'd use a lot

Try and find a serious topic to focus the story and that might help? I think. Just spitballing, so I have no idea.
Oh I have several. My problem is I keep biting off more than I can chew. For example, the main story I want to work on involves arisths on a training mission to the Taxxon homeworld some 20 years later discovering the Time Matrix had been there once, and a race to find it starts after they realize the training mission was just a ruse so the Apex Level could find the darn thing. Also Alloran is there.
But then my brain goes "The Apex Level ruse was a plot by a resurgent New Yeerk Empire, who have infiltrated Andalite society and want to use the Time Matrix to make sure they never lost the war. But they're being manipulated by their new 'god', The-One-Who-Is-Many, who is actually a giant spaceship holding millions of victims in an off-brand Matrix because TOWIM's ultimate goal is to keep everybody safe from danger because they were initially a Chee that was reprogrammed at the end of the Pemalite-Howler War and if they had the Time Matrix then they could fulfill that mission programming. Also, the Animorphs survived ramming the Blade Ship, but they're all in animated suspension inside TOWIM."
And that's the SHORT version I've reached after years of trying to make it simple! For reference, my rough drafts and notes and abandoned scraps and snippets currently total at 1.4 million words. And I have nothing to show for it. ;_;

I have to know. Do the fauximorphs from A-Town have battle morphs and if so, what are they?
Battle morphs, you say. Battle morphs. Oh no, there are never six exotic animals onscreen at the same time. For that matter, there are never two exotic animals onscreen at the same time. There is sometimes a lion. There is a German Shepherd that has been dyed to look like a coyote. Sometimes we are told after the fact that the lion was Trina in morph; sometimes we're told it was Liam. The coyote is Gina's favored morph, except for all the times it was Brandon in coyote morph. At one point the same stock footage of a wolf running past the camera plays six times in a row, and the thought-speak voiceover tries to convince us that this is six separate wolf morphs.
Other ways the show gets around the fact that all its animals have to be a) stock footage, b) tame, or c) That One Lion We Pay $2500 an Hour to Wander Around Our Sets:
Crystal often shows up to battles as a horse. Why she chooses horse over wolf is unclear.
At one point J.J. flings out an arm and yells "Poison attack!" and a controller extra falls over dead. The camera cuts back to J.J., who is now holding what is clearly a garter snake that was meant to have come out of his sleeve.
Brandon's favored battle morph is... Mopsy. The 15-lb dog. We're told he's defeated many hork-bajir-controllers in this shape, although this is of course never shown onscreen.
For that matter, Liam is sometimes on the phone with a hork-bajir friend, but we never see the other side of the conversation and he has a line lamenting that he never got her permission to morph her.
Liam-the-parakeet is sometimes an actual parakeet that's been added to a fight (usually by having the bird land on an extra's head, followed by the extra pretending to be grievously injured). But there are also loads of times when Gina and J.J. just go "Look up in the sky! It's Liam!" and we just have to take their word for it.
Whether or not guinea pigs count as exotic animals, the general consensus is that the guinea pig in a tiny skunk costume is Gina's most adorable battle morph.
For that matter, the script strongly implies that Gina isn't human, and she's in morph during all of her onscreen appearances. But we never see her out of morph, and she often goes straight from human shape to some other morph. Gina's True Form is thus the subject of infinite fandom speculation, from the boring explanations (she's obviously meant to be an andalite) to the canny ones (Marco thinks she's a chee) to the sweet ones (she's a deserter yeerk Liam rescued) to the buckwild ones (her original form cannot appear before humans without driving them mad).

i need to redesign my pokésona. i have the gym leader one from ages ago. but now i need to make my new one. he's a breeder-turned-social scientist who primarily studies the ethics and interactions between pokémon and humans, as well as their environmental impact. his goal is to inform the public about proper pokémon care, make sure any work pokémon are treated well and rehome/rehabilitate mistreated pokémon. (as much as i love an idyllic world where they live in harmony, unfortunately im a realist. people are people. this guy is a self proclaimed pokémon advocate with that in mind)

Jim accepts an offer of power and status by the Queen, in exchange for his unquestioning loyalty. Milla refuses to support him in this decision, and leaves. While Jim is now technically free to pursue a relationship with the Queen, he’s isolated in a world he has little familiarity with. For all his fame and influence, with the Terran Empire looking to him with bated breath, there’s something missing...
Sensing his need for comfort, Morph turns into a miniature Milla. That’s when he breaks. He screwed up. He screwed up bad.
This isn’t necessarily “canon,” for the moment just an idea I’m playing around with.
The background was supposed to be just a regular fireplace, but then it somehow turned into a flaming lotus/pinecone inside a forcefield? Still fiddling with a lot of ideas, definitely a candidate for a redraw. Admittedly this was initially Hellfire (HoND) inspired, like a “what if Jim turned into a REALLY bad guy?” but then it turned out sad instead. I think it works better, though.
