Dear Gus & Magnus,
Gus had soccer practice today, which has become a fun outing. Magnus gets to play in an open space with Eli, and Mom and I get to sit in camping chairs and talk with the other parents. It's way better than baseball season. Hopefully the weather stays good and we get to ride this out for a while. And Gus is having a blast. We stayed after for like 15 minutes tonight because he wanted to keep playing soccer with his friends.
Gus is probably the least aggressive player on the field -- we need to work on that -- but he did a better job of paying attention today. He's making progress and we're proud of him for it.
Dad.

AiO thought Holiday Special
Happy Thanksgiving late I guess. So, I checked out the AiO Christmas cards and I have some first impressions
*possible spoilers for album 75*:
Stuart looks uncomfortablely similar to Mcgee from Mcgee and me
Eugene being absent from the Whit's End staff is so sad
I know it's a Church themed card and they probably are all acquainted with one another but in my head the only two characters who know eachother are Dr. Calhoun and Mrs. Parker since they both work at the hospital.
What happened to Bart? Why does he look like that? I am deeply unsettled.
Antoine constantly being mentioned but never making an appearance is one of my parts of the Washington's lore. It would have been so easy to put him in there, but no they truly comited to the bit. Although the way they framed it has me confused. I thought Tamika was older than Marvin.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/04/09/the-nfl-draft-helped-the-packers-survive/
The NFL Draft helped the Packers survive
The Green Bay Packers, one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, have a rich history that intertwines with the evolution of the NFL Draft. The team was founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Calhoun and joined the NFL in 1921. Since then, the Packers have become known for their small-town roots, fervent fan base, and championship legacy, including multiple Super Bowl victories.
Before we dig in, are you preparing for a big move? Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, understanding and preparing for the possible costs can make all the difference. It will also be better to hire a good moving company like Elate Moving in order to save your money and make everything faster and more profitable. So don’t be afraid to take that job, make the move!
A way to even the field
The NFL Draft, initially established in 1936, transformed the way football franchises built their rosters. Before the draft, players were free to sign with any team, which often created an imbalance as wealthier teams in larger markets secured the most sought-after college players. The draft was introduced to level the playing field, providing a structured system where the weakest teams would have the opportunity to select the best available talent from the college ranks.
The Packers have had a remarkable draft history, with their strategy evolving through the decades. One of their most famous draft picks came in 1956, when they selected Bart Starr, a quarterback from the University of Alabama, in the 17th round. Starr went on to become one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history and led the team to five NFL championships, including victories in Super Bowl I and II.
Green Bay’s draft acumen was further highlighted in the 1960s under the guidance of legendary coach Vince Lombardi. Lombardi’s focus on character and mental toughness led to the selection of several Hall of Famers who would form the backbone of the Packers’ “Titletown” era. The team’s scouting and drafting philosophies have been key to maintaining competitive teams, even as the draft itself has become a highly scientific and scrutinized process.
A three-day spectacular now
In the modern era, the NFL Draft has become a media spectacle, with extensive coverage and analysis. It provides a yearly renewal of hope for teams looking to rebuild or reload. The Packers have adapted to these changes, leveraging both traditional scouting methods and advanced analytics to identify talent. This balanced approach led to the selection of players like Aaron Rodgers, who dropped to the 24th overall pick in 2005 and has since carved out a Hall of Fame-worthy career.
As the draft has grown in complexity, so has the Packers’ strategy. They have become known for their “best player available” approach, often picking the top talent on their board regardless of immediate need. This strategy, combined with judicious trades and free agency moves, has kept the Packers consistently competitive.
The relationship between the Green Bay Packers and the NFL Draft is a tapestry of strategic decisions, legendary figures, and serendipitous moments. Each draft pick carries the potential to alter the franchise’s trajectory, continuing the legacy of a team deeply rooted in the history and tradition of American football.

The Lake Of the Isles Inhabitants Rejoice
March 2, 1908
A happy family of Pickerels (a type of pike fish) dressed up for the Band Concert at the Harriet Bandstand. A sign behind them reads "To the new Lake of Isles - Calhoun Canal. Harriet Concerts." The father pickerel says "I wish he would play 'Down Went McGinty'"
The caption reads "Pa Pickerel (when the canal is in) - 'Great advantages, my dear, to run down, every evening, to the Harriet concerts.' Ma Pickerel - 'Yes, aren't the park board the dears!'"
A canal had been proposed between the two Minneapolis lakes, it would be completed in 1911.

Books, March - April 2021
White Ivy - Susie Yang [I read somewhere a review that called Ivy a Lily Bart figure, and this is obviously, infuriatingly incorrect; if she’s related to any Wharton character, it’s surely Undine Spragg]
The Raconteur’s Commonplace Book - Kate Milford
Winter’s Orbit - Everina Maxwell
Real Life - Brandon Taylor [there are 2 types of academic novels, and this is the depressing kind]
Powder and Patch - Georgette Heyer
The New Wilderness - Diane Cook
The Duke Who Didn’t - Courtney Milan [dnf]
The House on Vesper Sands - Paraic O’Donnell [enjoyable gaslamp gothic, and not a Holmes in sight, thank god]
Winterkeep - Kristin Cashore
A Desolation Called Peace - Arkady Martine [Hello, very much not a second book slump. One of the things that’s impressive about this is how well it pulls off the change in structure without losing the feel of the universe: switching from Mahit’s (mostly) singular POV to (mostly) four viewpoint characters could have been hugely jarring, but it’s not. Favorite nickname, obviously: Swarm] *
Olivia on the Record: A Radical Experiment in Women's Music - Ginny Z. Berson
Rainbow’s End - Ellis Peters
Why We Can’t Sleep: Women’s New Midlife Crisis - Ada Calhoun [...a perfectly good monkey]
Master and Commander - Patrick O’Brian
Street of the Five Moons - Elizabeth Peters
Wheel of the Infinite - Martha Wells
Post Captain - Patrick O’Brian
The Vanishing Half - Brit Bennett
H.M.S. Surprise - Patrick O’Brian
Quitting Plastic: Easy and Practical Ways to Cut Down the Plastic in Your Life - Clara Williams Roldan with Louise Williams [A few days ago a coworker and I had a nice cathartic talk about office green initiatives that started “I never want to sit in a meeting about coffee cups ever again,” and ended “because anyway their goal is to distract you from the real problem, which is capitalism!” (brief pause for earnest acknowledgement: the coffee cup meetings have the effect of creating community, which is a valuable result, but seriously) Anyway, this is a book for the coffee-cup-obsessed; points for acknowledging that some things are made of plastic for very good reasons - do I want to give up my contact lenses or the products that keep them wearable? I do not - but on the whole, focused on consumer products and how to continue to consume them, and much more into bio-plastics than I am]
Summerwater - Sarah Moss [well, you know going into it that you’re not reading Sarah Moss for cheer]
House Made of Dawn - N. Scott Momaday
Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America - Ijeoma Olua
The Mauritius Command - Patrick O’Brian
The Human Cosmos: Civilization and the Stars - Jo Marchant [as is often the case with grand synthesis books, I know just enough about the subject to be skeptical, but not enough to critique intelligently. Ill-served by its title, as its attempts at telling a story that isn’t entirely European instead only end up emphasizing just how European its intellectual history is.]
Death in a White Tie - Ngaio Marsh
The Name of the Rose - Umberto Eco

Equipment
Heatwave's Suit: Mick at one point used a flame retardant suit that was covered and created with asbestos. He has since ditched the older suit in favor of one created by the Crime Tailor.
Heatwave's Heat Gun: A re-purposed flame thrower that could not only create flames but increased the ambient temperature of the surrounding area, create small personalized fire storms and incinerate targets without the use of fuel tanks.
Tumblr media
Origins
Born on a farm outside Central City, Mick Rory became fascinated with fire as a child. This fascination turned into an obsession and one night, he set his family's home ablaze. His destructive fixation was so great, that he simply watched the flames engulf his house, instead of running to get help. His entire family died in the fire.
After this event, Rory went to live with his uncle. His pyromania continued and he was forced to run away after locking a schoolmate in his house and setting it on fire because the boy locked Rory in a meat locker during a field trip as a prank. He took a job as a fire eater with a travelling circus. This did not last long either, as he ended up setting the circus on fire.
It was these events that made him desperate to fight his fire obsession and after seeing The Rogues in action in Central City, he decided to use his mania to become a super villain. He created a protective costume made of asbestos, built a gun-sized flamethrower, and became Heat Wave. As he was committing crimes in Central City, it was inevitable that he would run into the Flash, which he did quite regularly. Subsequently, he also ended up in jail quite regularly. He also became a rival of Captain Cold, due to his aversion to cold temperatures. It was Captain Cold who introduced Heat Wave to The Rogues.
Eventually, Mick went straight, due largely to the manipulations of the Top. He took a job as a firefighting consultant using his vast knowledge on fires and heat. He also became good friends with Barry Allen, who he had discovered was The Flash years before. All good things must come to an end though, and Rory succumbed to an offer by Abra Kadabra: of gaining respect and infamy in the world. He and four other members of the Rogues sacrificed themselves, quite unwittingly, to unleash the demon Neron, setting off the events of Underworld Unleashed.
Later, Neron returned the soulless bodies of the five to Earth in a plan to force Flash into a deal. The five Rogues each possessed incredible powers and wreaked havoc, death, and destruction before Neron was forced by Flash to halt their actions and return their souls to their bodies.
Heat Wave would only briefly return to his criminal ways before abandoning them to study with Zhutanian monks. Afterwards, he worked for Project Cadmus as a backup agent, but eventually quit and moved to the Quad Cities, Illinois area. He eventually got a job at the FBI, along with other reformed members of Rogues. This was a spectacular failure and Rory became a villain once again after the Top arrived and undid the mental program that had kept him reformed.
Tumblr media
One Year Later
One Year Later, after being caught by the police, he and several more of the Rogues were approached by speedster Inertia with a plan to kill Bart Allen, the current Flash. Caught up in the moment, Heat Wave, Weather Wizard, and Captain Cold shot Bart to death with their respective weapons after he foiled Inertia's plan, and are now on the run. They expressed guilt immediately after the murder. He was one of the first villains to be captured during Salvation Run.
Tumblr media
Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge
Heat Wave was seen joining Libra's Secret Society of Super Villains. Unfortunately, he and the other Rogues' reject Libra's offer. Before they can retire, they hear that Inertia had escaped. The Rogues' confront Kid Zoom and ultimately kill him because that they were used and to overcome the guilt of Bart's death. Human Flame sought out Heat Wave hoping to purchase one of his signature flamethrower guns. Heat Wave refuses, denouncing Human Flame as "pathetic" and beating him severely.
Tumblr media
Fun Facts
Though Rory is generally bald, when he actually had hair, it was brown.

Some silly notes about Calhoun;
While officially exiled from the Syndicate, Cal is steadfast in his loyalty to them; he’s determined to ‘earn’ forgiveness from them, prove himself worth rejoining his family out in hidden corners of what used to be the Alterac territory.
Alongside Ham the forest stalker, Calhoun has two other wild critters that - for the most part - he leaves to their own devices with the occasional check up on their wellingbeing ; a blisterpaw hyena named Bart ( a name gathered from Calhoun’s guide, who was unfortunately eaten by said hyena; Cal decided bart had earned the name in eating her namesake) & a Fleshripper named Priscilla. She’s a very spoilt bird and she will bite ears. Bart tends to stick to going for the throat, so when wandering cities Cal only takes Ham out alongside with him.
Calhoun regularly indulges in black market trading; mostly drugs, but he’ll also have like 20 scams up his sleeve in order to rope in any unsuspecting fools. Don’t accept anything from him and especially don’t believe him when he says it’s the Real Deal.
Calhoun is homosexual, but strictly aromantic. He likes to fake relationships and bonds, but gets extremely awkward if there’s genuine affection shown towards him; if it’s not a fun game for both parties, he’s outtie.
He can build platonic bonds with his creatures but he struggles to relate to people thanks to narcissism making him believe he’s worth a lot more than anyone else ( he’s not he’s trash).
His biggest dream is to sucker punch the king but if he ever saw him face to face he wouldn’t think to because he has no idea of what the king even looks like. All his info on the alliance was given to him from the Syndicate/biased family members, with little to no actual facts.
He’s boo boo the fool given a malicious form

RAY FERRELL
August 24, 1949
Tumblr media
Ray Ferrell was born on August 24, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, as Raymond Delmer Ferrell. He was best known for playing Bruce Ramsey on three episodes of “I Love Lucy.” He was the younger brother of Todd Ferrell who played Boomer Bates on "Lassie". Ray also appeared on “Lassie” but not in the same season as his brother. They did, however, play brothers on three television programs, one directed by “Lucy” director James V. Kern, who likely was influential with Ray’s casting on “I Love Lucy.”
Tumblr media
He made his screen debut at age 5 in the CBS anthology series “Four Star Playhouse.”
Tumblr media
He was also known for 14 episodes of the TV series “Peck's Bad Girl” (1959). “Peck’s” also featured “Lucy” cast members Doris Singleton, Lawrence Dobkin, and Bart Braverman.
Tumblr media
His first appearance on “I Love Lucy” was titled “Lucy Gets Chummy With The Neighbors” (ILL S6;E18) on February 18, 1957.
Tumblr media
Ferrell played Bruce Ramsey, the son of the Ricardo’s neighbors Ralph and Betty Ramsey (played by Frank Nelson and Mary Jane Croft).
Tumblr media
Bruce was Little Ricky’s best friend.
Tumblr media
His second appearance was in “Lucy Does the Tango” (ILL S6;E20) on March 11, 1957. The episode was notable for the longest laugh on the series.  Eggs were integral to that laugh and to Bruce’s appearance. This is the only time Bruce appears, but his parents do not!
Tumblr media
In “Housewarming” (ILL S6;E23) on April 1, 1957, Ferrell’s third and final series appearance, the Ricardos and Mertzes install an intercom, which the boys believe can help them talk to outer space!
“That isn’t the moon, that’s my mommy!” ~ Bruce Ramsey
Tumblr media
Also in 1957, Ferrell appeared in an episode of “The Box Brothers,” a short-lived CBS sitcom starring Gale Gordon.
Tumblr media
After “I Love Lucy” Ferrell did a 1958 episode of Desilu’s Western series “The Texan” starring Rory Calhoun...
Tumblr media
...and two episodes of “Zane Grey Theater” in 1958 and 1960 starring Jack Carson.
Tumblr media
Ray Ferrell left show business in 1961 with his final appearance (age 12) on “The Detectives” starring Robert Taylor.
He died on August 25, 2006 in Athens, Tennessee, one day after his 57th birthday.

It’s Not Looking Good for Hunter Biden as Lawyer in Ark. Child Case Quits
Initial proceedings in a paternity case involving Hunter Biden, son of former vice president and 2020 Democratic primary candidate Joe Biden, are reportedly off to a disastrous start this week. According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Biden’s attorneys — Bart W. Calhoun, Jessica Duncan Johnston and the state’s former Attorney General Dustin McDaniel — “abruptly withdrew”…

The Green Bay Packers: A Proud Legacy and Promising Future
The Green Bay Packers, one of the oldest and most storied franchises in the National Football League (NFL), have long been synonymous with success, tradition, and the unwavering support of their fans. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Calhoun, the team has evolved from its humble beginnings into a powerhouse within the league. The Packers’ unique ownership structure, extensive collection of championships, and passionate fanbase set them apart from other NFL teams, making them a favorite among football enthusiasts.
A Unique Ownership Structure
One of the most defining characteristics of the Green Bay Packers is their unique ownership structure. Unlike other NFL teams owned by wealthy individuals or corporations, the Packers are owned by their fans, who hold shares in the team. This non-profit, community-based ownership model ensures that the team remains firmly rooted in its city and its supporters, fostering a strong sense of loyalty and pride among its fanbase, who are affectionately known as “Cheeseheads.”
A Legacy of Championships
The Green Bay Packers’ impressive record of success includes 13 league championships, more than any other team in NFL history. Four of these championships are Super Bowl titles, earned in 1967, 1968, 1997, and 2011. The team’s illustrious past is filled with legendary players such as Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers, each of whom has left an indelible mark on the franchise’s history. Their incredible accomplishments are immortalized in the Packers Hall of Fame, a testament to the team’s enduring impact on the sport of football.
Lambeau Field: Home of the Packers
The iconic Lambeau Field, named after team founder Curly Lambeau, has been the Packers’ home since 1957. Known for its “frozen tundra” during winter games, Lambeau Field is the longest continually operating stadium in the NFL. The stadium’s capacity of over 81,000 makes it the third-largest in the league, and it is renowned for its distinctive atmosphere and passionate fans, who are known to don their Cheesehead hats and brave the frigid Wisconsin temperatures in support of their beloved team.
A Promising Future
In recent years, the Green Bay Packers have continued to demonstrate their dominance on the field, with a talented roster that includes rising stars and seasoned veterans. The team’s commitment to excellence, combined with their unparalleled fan support, ensures a bright future for the Packers. Under the guidance of head coach Matt LaFleur, the team is poised to compete for championships in the coming seasons, adding to their already impressive legacy.
Online Betting and the Packers
The rise of online sports betting has brought a new dimension to the world of sports, with football being one of the most popular options for fans looking to test their luck and knowledge. While this article is not focused on online betting, it is worth noting that the Green Bay Packers often feature in these discussions, given their storied history and consistent success.
When placing bets on the Packers, fans can choose from a variety of options, such as predicting the outcome of individual games, the team’s overall season performance, or even the performance of specific players. As always, fans should engage in responsible gambling practices and adhere to the regulations in their jurisdiction.
Conclusion
The Green Bay Packers’ proud legacy, unique ownership structure, and devoted fans make them an exceptional team within the NFL. With a history of unparalleled success and a promising future ahead, the Packers continue to captivate football enthusiasts and inspire new generations of fans. As the team writes new chapters in its illustrious story, the Green Bay Packers remain a testament to the enduring spirit of community, dedication, and triumph in the world of professional football.
With the ongoing support of their fanbase and the drive to excel both on and off the field, the Packers are poised to remain a dominant force in the NFL for years to come. As they carry the legacy of past championships and legendary players, the Green Bay Packers continue to embody the true essence of American football, uniting people from all walks of life in a shared love for the game.

Race War: Black assaults on BART; Confederate flag-flying homeowners murdered
Last Saturday, FOTM‘s TrailDust published a post, “Why There Are More Blacks in Prison,” on a gang of black teens viciously attacking white teens at Marina Bay, an upscale waterfront entertainment and residential area in Quincy, Massachusetts. “Living Hell”: Clemson Professor Under Fire After Prompting Others To Find The Home Address Of Critic
Another professor is under fire this week for rabidly anti-Republican views.  Clemson School of Computing Assistant Professor Bart Knijnenburg called not just Trump but all Republicans “xenophobic and racist.” He previously called all Republicans “racist scum.”  Despite his hateful and intolerant views, I still believe that he has a free speech right to express those views in social media and would oppose efforts to terminate him.  Unfortunately, such views are not uncommon among faculty. What made this story stand out is that Knijnenburg appeared to encourage others to find the home address of someone who published an open letter calling for schools to stop admitting Chinese students.  It has become a standard practice of some groups to harass and threaten people at home if they express opposing views or contradict a new orthodoxy on our campuses.
This week I testified in the Senate about the erosion of free speech and academic freedom in our universities where professors are being punished or even fired for expressing viewpoints that challenge this new orthodoxy, particularly with regard to racial and political issues.
Professors who express anti-Republican views are rarely subjected to campaigns for removal. Indeed, Change.org recently took down a petition criticizing a professor for declaring “White Lives Don’t Matter.” From a free speech perspective, it is not just the threats against expression but the bias in enforcement that is so concerning. However, that does not change the fact that Knijnenburg is expressing deeply held political and social views in stating that “anyone who still calls themselves a Republican despite all this is xenophobic and racist.”
On his Twitter account, Knijnenburg uses the common acronym “ACAB,” for “all cops are bastards” and proclaims “Burn it down.”
Knijnenburg was previously under fire on Campus Reform for declaring on Facebook that “all Trump supporters, nay, all Republicans, are racist scum.”
What was disconcerting was a professor encouraging the harassment of people with opposing views at their homes. Knijnenburg went to Facebook to attack a man who wrote an open letter to the president of the Clemson University Board of Trustees, asking the university to “keep Chinese nationalists out of Clemson.” The letter reflects a view of various political leaders that Chinese military and intelligence operations are using students to steal data and research from American universities. Knijnenburg profanely attacks the man and then engages in others who want to get “personal” and ask where he lives.
Knijnenburg reportedly responded with “Greenwood. His name is Paul Gilbert and he was an assistant town administrator in Calhoun Falls. And then a zoning administrator in Greenwood. Now retired, I guess.” Knijnenburg later followed up with “lemme know if you find out his address.”  He later responded to other comments and said that “part of me wants to just not bother; another part of me wants to make this guy’s life a living hell.”
The involvement of an academic in seeking to harass those with opposing views is a disgrace to our profession. Universities are dedicated to the exchange of ideas and based on the faith that ultimately the more worthy or justified viewpoints will prevail. In seeking to intimidate people with opposing views, Knijnenburg confirms that he is more of an advocate than an academic. He and these other commenters want to deter others from expressing opposing views by making Mr. Gilbert an example. While other academics are assaulted or put under police protection for trying to speak freely, Knijnenburg is spurring on the mob.
The problem with being an advocate for free speech and academic freedom is that you often must defend people who would deny both rights in others. Indeed, we often support those who want to silence others while espousing hateful views.  While Knijnenburg would “burn down” those things that annoy him, protecting his right to express such views protects us all.
However, Knijnenburg is coming close to the line of protected speech in his encouraging the harassment of other people.  We have previously discussed how some faculty have had to be placed under police protection due to such campaigns. The targeting of homes has often led to trespass and even violence. Knijnenburg’s stated desire to burn down part of society can easily be taken as a desire to burn down people who support those institutions.  When such speech turns to action, Knijnenburg may find himself beyond the protection of these rights.
