Enjoying a cheeky wee day off work. ▪︎ Hasn't all been lazing around though. After doing the school run this morning I had a little decorating to do & some household chores to catch up on. ▪︎ All done & dusted. So the perfect time to sit back, relax and soak up the baroque pop & funk/soul sounds of the Arctic Monkeys' new album: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙧. ▪︎ I've had my hands on this since the end of last week. Ended up getting delayed due to the Royal Mail strikes, but no matter. ▪︎ This has actually been part of the office soundtrack for the whole of last week & probably for the rest of this week. ▪︎ I was never a huge Arctic Monkeys fan, but since 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘰 and now this, I'm completely besotted. ▪︎ Absolutely love this. ▪︎ ▪︎ #arcticmonkeys #thecar #indierock #alternativerock #baroquepop #glam #soul #funk #vinylrecord #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #vinyljunkie #vinyladdict #vinylgeek #vinylcommunity #instavinyl #lovevinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #instamusic #lovemusic #music #nowspinning #onmyturntable #projectturntable #projectaudio https://www.instagram.com/p/CkbF1z9t6c_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Album: Ugly Season Artist: Perfume Genius Genre: #ChamberPop #BaroquePop #Industrial ℹ️About The Album : Mike Hadreas' music as Perfume Genius has always walked an interesting line between experimentalism and accessibility-pop for listeners more interested in "pop" as a concept than a reality. Written as a companion to a dance piece by choreographer Kate Wallich, Ugly Season effectively inverts the balance, situating Hadreas' hallmarks- his romanticism, his expressivity, his startling, sometimes violent sense of drama-in the context of something that plays more like a symphony or soundtrack than a set of discrete songs. The title is a feint, of course: This is extremely beautiful music even in its dissonance, from the Philip Glass-like grid of "Teeth" and the spiderweb instrumental of "Scherzo" to the industrial roar of "Hellbent". And just in case, he gives you something called"Pop Song" -which isn't one, of course. [Apple Music] 💭Thoughts : Lately, I’ve been struggling with listening to new music, I guess you have to be open to it for it to speak to you, just like picking a book. So, this is an old one from the archives. Though, it’s not that old, released 17 June 2022, it’s beautiful how it comes together as a myriad of feelings poignant, a mountain traversed arbitrarily finding you a way across, while keeping you on your toes of toes. 🍸Goes Best With : Today we’re going to make ourselves a Moscow Mule. This classic cocktail was born in the 1940’s. It's part of a family of cocktails called a buck: a cocktail made with liquor, ginger ale or ginger beer (or substitute with vodka) and citrus juice. So, it can also be called a vodka buck in case you’re using Vodka. Favourite Tracks: 🔥Just a Room, 🔥Teeth, 🔥Pop Song, 🔥Ugly Season, 🔥Hellbent. Featured Tracks: ✨Herem, ✨Photograph, ✨Cenote. #PerfumeGenius #UglySeason #MoscowMule #GingerAle #Buck #Music #MusicReview #KANSASreviews #Musik_Co_ #TasteYourMusic #PsyNok #Psyn0k #FavouriteTracks https://www.instagram.com/p/CqGqyk8yw1d/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hey you guys 🏹💘
In only a few hours my new Single ‘Quicker’ will be out!!!
There is still time to Pre-Save the song but anyway- thank you to all the people who will listen! It means more than the world to me💘💘💘
‘Quicker’ is about my relentless need to strive for the romantic. Romanticism is everywhere around us and you can find it in little gestures and words, in presentsin glances and phrasing, in symbols and between the lines. Love is a language and of course there can always be mis- understanding. There are more ways to express your love than languages.
Individuality is a part of what makes love so wonderful and if you feel love you will do whatever your heart decides on it. No one can ever take this love awayfrom you if you don’t talk about it - if the person reciprocates, you wouldn’tknow and so you can dream you dreams before they get eventually destroyed. It’s a game of risk and you decide how to play your turns. But until you will eventually move further you are able to see everything is lovely shades of pink! Fantasise, romanticise, dramatise! 🏹💘

MONDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “Josephine” by Tim Andrews a.k.a Chris Andrews, who wrote and sang this psych-pop anthem to a woman of the late 1960s Swingin’ London times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms4IHSSkeVw ...The arrangement comes laden with echoplexed harpsichords and strings—right out of the 60s “chamber pop” playbook, when classical music forms and instrumentation are integrated with psychedelic rock, a style championed by The Beach Boys, Beatles, Bee Gees, Left Banke, etc. Recorded at Abbey Road, this track was produced by Tony Hall and David Mackay (Gene Pitney, Cliff Richard, Bonnie Tyler) and arranged by Paul Buckmaster—the great composer and orchestrator who’d soon go on to work with Elton John. On a cosmic jukebox this song would play between early Bee Gees, Edison Lighthouse, “See Emily Play” (Pink Floyd), and “Sugar On Sunday” (The Clique). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms4IHSSkeVw

Music Video: Laure Briard - The Smell of Your Hair
#MusicVideo: @laure_briard - The Smell of Your Hair The French pop-rock artist conjures the vintage 60's in the video for her breezy new orchestral pop single @MidnightSpecRec @clandestinenyc #newmusic #poprock #pop #baroquepop #60s #retrocool
Though she hails from France, pop-rock artist Laure Briard received inspiration for her latest single “The Smell of Your Hair” from California, specifically a trip to Joshua Tree. Per Briard, “The song recounts a heartbreaking encounter with a lonesome cowboy, where fleeting passion under the Californian sun is lulled by the sound of the wind and the song of birds.” The result is a breezy,…

Happy 30th Birthday, R.E.M.’s ‘Automatic For The People’ 🎂
(A retrospective ramble by an ageing Alternative-Rock Fan)
That sounds strange, wishing a jolly birthday greeting to a far from jolly album. It’s strange to think that ‘Automatic For The People’ by seminal US Alternative Rock band, R.E.M. is 30 years old today.
I remember firsts hearing this album in the autumn of 1992, at the very beginning of my Uni days in London, England. I always think of this album as autumnal, not just because it was released it the autumn, or because I relate it to that particular autumn of 1992, (In my case spent trying to navigate the ruby leaved floor of Richmond Park in search of a mythological pub) nor the sometimes bleak, almost autumnal feel of the album itself, but I feel this album is synonymous with the autumnal years of the twentieth century: the 90s…where anything from a music video by a 4ad Indie band like America’s Unrest or Red House Painters or a promo vid by U.K. boy band Take That was covered in a shroud of autumn sepia or orange.
Gone now was the MTV friendly aura of REM’s previous album from the year before, ‘Out of Time’. Like many novice alternative music fans, ‘Out of Time’ was my first introduction to REM and (like many music fans) I spent the next 18 months gathering REM’s (Mainly IRS records) back catalogue of 80s albums.
By 1992, angsty US Grunge in the form of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden brought a downbeat introspection to the ears of a generation of Indie Kids, whilst bleak, self-destructive musings would be realised, when U.K. Indie band, Radiohead released inward-looking classic ‘Creep’ later that year. ‘Automatic For The People’ slotted in nicely to this wave of angsty, introspective and dark guitar based Alternative Rock.
The album itself, is bleak but beautiful, filled with either hits (‘Everybody Hurts’ ; ‘Drive’; ‘The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite’; ‘Nightswimming’; ‘’Find the River’ and one of my favourites, ‘Man On The Moon’) or strong album cuts. (Try Not To Breathe’ and ‘Sweetness Follows). However, there are (for me) weaker moments, which (only in my opinion) make this an imperfect album. Much as I consider ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ an ‘almost-perfect-album’ (sorry 70s-era Floyd Fans, it’s only ‘On the Run’ that doesn’t work for me), I’m not a big fan of REM singer Michael Stipe swearing; with some singers, (for me) swearing doesn’t always fit with my perception of that singer’s persona. I love the smooth glide and 10cc-esque instrumentation of ‘Star Me Kitten’ and ‘When the Levee breaks’-style harmonica of ‘Ignoreland’, (plus I’m not too fond of the ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ vocal parts), but when Stipe swears, it takes me out of the music. I’m the same with Luke Haines of English pre-Britpop Indie band, The Auteurs. (Who are one of my favourite bands) Certain singers swearing doesn’t do it for me. (Any ideas on this as it’s a riddle to me, please let me know in the comments!)
On a positive side, the songs ‘Drive"; ‘The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite’; ‘Everybody Hurts’ and ‘Nightswimming’ feature string arrangements by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. I feel the ‘Zeppelin’ influence (particularly from the more folksy Led Zep III & IV albums) seeps into other tracks on this record, especially the baroque-darkness of ‘Try Not to Breathe’, the Mandolin-led, ‘Monty Got A Raw Deal’ and the aforementioned, ‘Ignoreland’. I’d really encourage any Led Zeppelin fans who are unfamiliar with this album to give it a go…spirituality John Paul Jones inhabits it!
This album for me, never dates, as baroque-pop musings collide with guitar feedback and acoustic-folk sensibilities. Stripe’s voice soars throughout a blend of ballads & rock songs…there’s a consistency to the album which begs for 30 years of repeat listens! ⭐️
