Asian - Banh Mi Burgers Sesame oil and ginger-flavored grilled pork burgers are topped with a marinated cucumber and carrot pickle mixture. Ahead of time, the cucumber pickle mixture is prepared and marinated. For a treat reminiscent of southeast Asia, the burgers are placed on sesame seed buns.

dinner’s on me~
top: banh mí style meatballs served over cucumbers, carrots, and ginger rice (meatballs were pan-seared so they got this lovely caramelization; the kit came with a clove of ginger so needless to say, i was in love with the smell)
middle: swedish meatballs with egg noodles, homemade gravy, and lingonberry jam (not pictured); doesn’t look like much but still has me 🤰🏻
bottom: pork burgers with gouda, caramelized onions, and paprika potato wedges (i’m still trying to get the hang of making patties; they‘re more like meatballs or burgers from red robin 😅)

general life update btw i survived moving halfway across the continent and managed to land a decent housekeeping job but i'm still struggling with basic life functions like eating so i haven't had the energy to make any art. i'm trying to move into my own place this week which should take a lot of pressure off
also theres big Family Drama going down bc my asshole grandpa is dying excruciatingly slowly in the most inconvenient way possible (it's a long story but don't feel bad for him)....
TLDR i'll be back as soon as i settle into an apartment + get enough food in me consistently

They had gotten back into the habit slowly— in fits and starts and Jason turning down Dick’s gentle inquiry (plea, it was a plea) more often than not. Now, once a month at least, Red Hood and Nightwing could be found perched on a rooftop sharing a meal. Chili dogs or burgers or sandwiches: anything that could be easily held, quickly eaten, and was from somewhere open late enough to serve the night owls of Gotham.
Tonight it was banh mi sandwiches from an amazing little Vietnamese place in Blüdhaven.
It was easier to take these moments in Blüdhaven.

Jack's Burger Shack (dining week)
Hey guys!
Let's backtrack a little. .. to Edm Downtown Dining Week, which happened at the end of March. .. lol sorry!! >.<
One of the participting restaurants was Jack's Burger Shack. They started out in St. Albert (original location), & now (since a few yrs ago) has a 2nd location in Downtown Edmonton. I've been to neither, same with my companion DQ, whom I came here with. So we were very exciting to try out this place since we've heard very good things about it :D
Tumblr media
It was a Tues later-lunch when we came but bcos it was dining week, the place was packed. Thankfully, I managed to snap a photo of this wall that features their sign while they were cleaning between diners.
Tumblr media
The place was very narrow & not a lot of seating available; however, it's neat, cozy, & I like the range of furniture/decor.
Tumblr media
My friend DQ in the bottom left corner taking care of her daughter haha
So during Dining Week, participating restaurants have a pre-set menu. Jack's was only open for lunch service & they had 2 menu sets; we got the $15 option, which we thought was a better bang for your buck. (The $25 option is an 'upgraded' version of the $15 menu, with a diff burger & poutine instead of fries with aoili).
Tumblr media
The rootbeer float. Omg, can't remember the last time I had a float. .. probably 2 decades ago?? Can't say I am a fan but I finished it regardless.
Tumblr media
The fries + melt aoili & the 5oz burger (the original one). The melt aoili was good; not sure about the fries. I like my Costco fries :P
Tumblr media
The burger though. .. amazing! 11/10! Very thin & crispy. They make them 'smash' style on a flat grill like a teppanyaki so not only does it cook fast, but also you get a good smokiness from it as well. Well-seasoned & . .. loved it! I've never had burgers so thin before. I hope more can be done with this patty - like, I dunno. .. banh mi? On rice? Honestly, it has Asian style street food vibes.

Hello! I hope this finds you well.
Because I feel myself in a silly mood, I feel it appropriate to ask a silly question.
What sandwich would represent each main cast character?
That is all and thank you for your time.
HAH.
The Ronin: Ham sandwich in a soggy paper bag you find at the bus station after dark. It was definitely supposed to be someone's lunch. Probably looked amazing eight hours ago -- some really good fixings! Just...don't...put that in your mouth... You don't know where it's been.
B5: PBJ -- but with like, whole-grain bread and maybe a banana. Delicious. Nourishing.
The Traveler: Some sort of fancy banh mi. You'd post a pic on instagram but you've already devoured it.
Kouru: Ramen burger. Fuck you.
Ekiya: Pork katsu sandwich. A little unexpected, upsettingly delicious, but fundamentally kind of a duh moment. OF COURSE. It's delicious. I'm crying.
Chie: Onigiri. Is this not a sandwich? Oh, yes it is. She has decided so.
Hanrai: Avocado toast. He has come to ask you to revisit your understanding of what a sandwich could be and is at the same time not audacious enough to entirely dispose of the bread.
The Witch: The memory of your sandwich. She ate it.
I'm sorry I inevitably get so abstract by the end of these. That will be the last apology. From here on out it's just whatever the truth makes itself known to be.
