bad buddy fandom getting-to-know-you meme! (created by @fiercynn)
tagged by beloveds @nobodynobodyno & @cornflowershade & @solana-ceae thank you for tagging me this was so much fun! 🌹💖
note: i consider "fanworks" to pretty much everything people create related to a fandom, including but not limited to meta/analysis/discussion, gifs, fanvids/edits/fancams, filk, fanart, fanfic, fan food, fan crafts, etc. please include this note with the meme unless you have a different definition!
name and whatever you want to share about yourself
im vi! i'm queer, 23, born & living in India, but brought up in south-east asia!
when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom?
i saw the show as it aired but i joined the fandom (and tumblr) around ep3!
favorite ship(s)
PatPran (duh!), but also InkPa because they're such a good pair like how Pa is a badass but around Ink she just melts and gigges (both the jundapat siblings are the same skskks)
favorite character(s)
Pran. he is me, i am him. he is a feral, musky scented hoe and i love him.
favorite episode(s)
episode 4! first we got ink and pa projecting her crush pn pat! then we saw pran AND A LOT OF PINING AND JEALOUSY. my boy had gotten his hopes up and then absolutely shattered. we got "only i can have these super cute dimples" & "if you were ink, would you like me?" and that absolutely heartbreaking last scene <3
favorite scene(s)
i mean there's the obvious ep5 4/4 fight followed by the best kiss in cinematic history. but also pat in the music shop discovering that he likes pran. and pat shouting his love to pran in the architecture faculty. and pat and pran's scene in the corridor with the guitar. and inkpa hotpot date and the photography room scene. the entire episode 8 & 11 (im cheating ik). i will keep on listing all the scenes if i don't stop.
one thing you would change about the show if you could
i wish there was just one discussion about wai being a dick to pran in ep8/9. like i wouldn't change what happened but like after all the dust had settled and all the friends were ok with patpran, i hope there was a discussion or even a mention of that wai apologised to pran somewhere behind the scenes and pran mentioned this to pat. (and i'm not sure if os2 counts but i would most def change ep3 of the crossover where they are just getting lost and screaming each others' names again and again sksksks)
what are your some of your favorite fanworks made by other people
this is very unfair ok i love them all but here are a few
i'll just link all the fics here & the post i made about it some time back! (special mention to a soft boy in soft sweaters by @dimplesandfierceeyes)

I miss the times where there was so much buzz around a 911 season finale. Right now there is absolutely nothing. It’s like the show is already on hiatus. But to be fair Season 5 was their worst (my opinion) so that’s why, i guess. The people that cared so much about the show has already moved on. Sigh, so do you think we can at least expect something nice from it? The firetruck falling of the clip is just meh, because we all know nothing bad is going to happen. I’m not even worried about that.
Hey Nonnie
I'm sad that you're not finding the buzz pre finale!! I think we as a fandom are a bit over the Taylor of it all, so that may be contributing to the lack of buzz you're feeling - and that is totally understandable.
Of course you are totally allowed to think season 5 is the worst season, I don't feel that way - I wasn't always convinced by it, but now being able to watch it as an entire thing, my feelings have changed (season 1 is still the worst season in my book!!) and I can see the bigger picture. Maybe after the finale, give yourself a week or two and then watch it as a whole - you might feel differnetly then. and hey even if you don't, you can look forward to seeing what season 6 has in store because you never know - it might be the best season yet (especially if we get canon Buddie!)
I very much think we can expect nice tings from the finale - we will get all the various families coming back together - so we will hopefully get to see Madney reunited and moving forward together again, we get the HenRen vow renewal and I'm interested to see how Evangeline and Nia will be used. We've got Buck and Eddie mending walls together, Eddies return to the 118, the long awaited BT break up (us finally being freed from Taylor is reason to enjoy the finale all on its own!!) and we'll start to get some idea of how Bobbys break down is going to pan out into season 6!
The engine falling off the cliff might seem meh - but if I were you I would go rewatch triggers - because I think we will be drawing some parallels from that episode in this one - that might help make it feel a bit more exciting too you!
Hopefully this has given you a few things to look forward to and that we'll have lots of things to talk about in hiatus - I know I have some plans for posts about colour theory, some more costume posts and a few other things I have in the pipe line. But if you get to the hiatus and the show doesn't bring you joy anymore, it is totally valid to step away - life is too short to waste it on things that leave you feeling sad, cold, unhappy or bored! I'm happy to chat through anything you're feeling about the show - my inbox is always open!

My top ten of Pat's shirts from Bad Buddy
10. Episode 5
Tumblr media
This is the first of three shirts from this episode to make this list (the others are at no. 4 and 3) and it's not surprising really since Pat spends most of the episode gradually realising his feelings for Pran...and he figurately and literally wears his heart on his sleeve (or actually, his heart). This shirt appears towards the end, when he and Pran have co-ordinated colours - indicating they are moving closer to some kind of connection - both being in shades of blue and yellow/orange. The pièce de résistance, however, is the fully blossomed red/yellow flower over his heart signifying that Pat’s feelings for Pran have…well…fully blossomed.
-
9. Episode 6
Tumblr media
I had a difficult time deciding which shirts should be in these early spots (10/9) but this one just pipped the one at no. 10. It's seems very innocuous, un-interesting, un-important at first, but it's this subtlety that sets it a little apart -> Firstly, for a character who wears a lot of colour in general, it's very telling that this shirt is generally white - Pat wears it at a time when he's feeling troubled by the distance Pran has put between them after the rooftop kiss. And secondly, and this might be a reach, but Hilton Head (the grey print on the shirt) is a small island off the coast of South Carolina...so it could be symbolising how Pat feels disconnected, set apart, and detached from Pran. (Mentioned here)
-
8. Episode 7
Tumblr media
This is the first of two shirts in this episode to make this list (the other is no. 5) and one of the first times we see the colour brown up to this point (apart from on Pran's dad). At the end of the episode, Pat turns up at the theatre wearing this shirt with a face design to step in to play Riam - thus saving Pran the humiliation of grovelling to Chart (i.e. 'to save face') and instead choosing to sacrifice himself (hence the brown) by ‘losing’ the bet to Pran (even though he had already confessed).
-
7. Episode 11
Tumblr media
“An elephant never forgets.” -> A lot of episode 11 is about Pat and Pran running away from their lives...forgetting about their families, the lies they discovered, and the fear for their relationship once they go back. Pat also slowly realises that Pran is, and will always be, unable to forget his parents despite Pran being there for Pat and allowing Pat this moment of fantasy. They also spend much of the time at the beach not talking about any of this, avoiding the subject - i.e. the "elephant in the room" - instead distracting themselves with other things.
A bonus element with this shirt is the connection it has to the shirt at no. 6 in this list. Some people were wondering why "California” was used instead of the usual name of the store, “DM”, on the red t-shirt (below) - well maybe it's because Junior’s t-shirt in ep 11 - worn at the same time as Pat wears the elephant shirt - has “Malibu Beach California” on the front.
-
6. Episode 10
Tumblr media
@karometeenk has complete credit for the details about this one. First, the slogan is for a German drug store (we later see Pat and Pran get caught by Pat's parents in a supermarket) and it refers to a famous quote by Johann Wolfgang Goethe: "Hier bin ich Mensch, hier darf ich's sein" which translates to "Here I am human, here I can/am allowed to be one". This quote is from his tragedy Faust, and in one scene Faust goes into a monologue on a walk about the beauty of nature and how he can only truly be himself there, where no one is around. This foreshadows episode 11, where Pat and Pran run away to the sea, to nature. They can only be true to themselves there, where no one around knows them.
-
5. Episode 7
Tumblr media
I absolutely adored the moment Pat turned up in the theatre with this t-shirt and shirt combination. First, he's wearing his own blue underneath Pran's rich burgundy red - in a direct reversal and development of the Picasso-esque t-shirt with the splodge of red over the heart which he wore under a blue shirt when he realised his feelings for Pran in ep 5 (no. 3 in this list). But the pièce de résistance is that the only two words visible on the t-shirt are "your man?" Pat wears this during a scene where he confesses to Pran, thus losing the bet. He asks Pran - as Riam - "You asked if I wanted to be friends? What if my answer is no?" Essentially, "Am I/can I be your man?" (Mentioned here).
-
4. Episode 5
Tumblr media
The second of the three shirts from this episode...and the only reason this one isn't higher up is because of how ridiculous it is for the poignancy of the scene. BUT that is also exactly why it IS on my list AND so high 😂 But, putting the ridiculous aside, the deep red and blue of Pat's pants and top beautifully illustrate the depth of his feelings for Pran and the fact that the word "Baseball" almost blends in with the blue behind it shows how close Pat and Pran are to becoming a couple, a union, themselves. Of course, the loudness of the "mom" in white can't be ignored and it perhaps symbolises the obstacle they face in being open with their eventual relationship and a big reason why Pran left Pat alone. (As written about here).
-
3. Episode 5
Tumblr media
It took me a while after the episode to realise that the t-shirt Pat wears during his wonderful Oh moment about his feelings for Pran has a splodge of red over his heart. Not only that, but he's wearing a blue shirt (his own colour) over the top which partially obscures the red - illustrating how his feelings for Pran existed under the surface but took a while to be revealed. Even here they weren't fully realised, out in the open. It was only after being jealous of Wai's closeness to Pran later in the ep that he really understood the hold Pran had on his heart.
-
2. Episode 9
Tumblr media
To be honest, it was a close call between this and the shirt in the no. 1 spot...but this one is well-deserving for second place. As I wrote about it here, this shirt has Pran's red, his own blue, and a bridge lit up with yellow lights (their love and happiness) on the print. It symbolises how Pat this episode is the bridge between the two faculties and more importantly between Pran and Wai. Not only that, the bridge itself is an iconic image of the power of collaboration between architecture and engineering.
-
Before I get to no. 1, I want to give a special mention to some that didn't make the list: the green 'Lucky' t-shirt from ep 1; the Tim Horton's 'Smile cookie' t-shirt in ep 3; the tie-die t-shirt at the end of ep 6; and the smiley face t-shirt featured in ep 1 and finally worn in ep 12. All fantastic in their own little way.
Okay, on to no.1...
-
1. Episode 4
Tumblr media
Even eight episodes on, I still can't get over the genius of this shirt...but in fairness its brilliance shines best when Ink's and Pran's coinciding tops are also taken into account. As I gushed about it before, this shirt has two colours overlapping in the leaf design: One a light yellowy/greeny/cream and the other a light grey/blue. These are the two colours that Ink and Pran wear respectively in their scenes with Pat in the episode - indicating his divided affections for them, with one fading and the other growing. 👩🏽‍🍳💋
EDIT: For any new people finding this post, I made a revised version of my top ten list (found here) after I had analysed a few more of Pat's shirts and realised the order needed changing. Keeping this one for posterity though.

The Not-So-Amazing Mary Jane Part 33: AMJ #5.2
Tumblr media
Previous Part
Next Part
Master Post
Picking up where we left off last time. MJ is in the midst of fighting the Savage Six and has just attacked Tarantula.
Rhino charges at MJ only for us to get another splash page. She points out how it’s smarter to use Rhino’s weight against him kicks him. His causes him to fall down the slope, a fact MJ mocks him for and calls him a big bully.
Tumblr media
Of all the pages in this issue this is the one I was most debating about. I didn’t like it when I saw it but I spent a good while mulling it over in my head. Could this moment be internally justified at all? However, looking at it again I’ve concluded no it absolutely cannot be.
Yes, in theory the idea is sound. Rhino is very heavy and so if he’s coming up a slope it would be possible for someone to use his weight+gravity to throw him off balance.
The theory is sound but the execution is not.
First of all as lovely as the colours and style of the art has been, Gomez has dropped the ball hard at depicting the terrain and movement of the characters. Once again we’ve jumped from one reaction to another with no idea how we got from A to B. it’s even worse when you consider they are both splash pages. What’s worse is that the slope doesn’t seem that steep based upon the art and his artwork poorly conveys the layout of the area where the fight is happening.
But what makes it worse is the idea that MJ has kicked Rhino down the hill. The sound effect is even ‘KRAK!’, implying she did some damage.
This is simply an absolute failure to understand both physics and Rhino’s powerset. MJ physically incapable of harming Rhino with a mere kick because his super strength, durability and suit would protect him, so why the hell is there a sound effect at all? Is her ankle breaking?
More poignantly, yes you could throw Rhino off balance with the slope, but not the way MJ does it. He has arms, he can stop his fall. And whilst his weight could work against him, you’d need a sufficient force to destabilize him. His weight and durability is simply going to make a kick from MJ incapable of doing that. Spider-Man with super strength has struggled to stop him mid-charge. A normal human kick won’t do anything.
Also the artwork fails because it’s depicting MJ’s kick and then the after effect of it on the same page. There should either be motion lines to convey how we got from A to B or panels simply depicting that.
Furthermore MJ’s dialogue here is questionable. In his most recent appearances the Rhino has been played as sympathetic, a man who’s return to villainy Spider-Man was cut up about because he showed genuine signs of wanting to change. Spidey even blames himself for Rhino’s renewed interest in crime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s highly unlikely Peter wouldn’t have told MJ about this so her attitude to him is very questionable. It is also very contradictory considering she’s been so sympathetic towards Beck for five issues. But for a bad guy who is arguably nowhere near as bad and has shown more concrete signs of redemption she unflinchingly kicks him down, mocks him and writes him off as a big bully.
Finally WTF is Tarantula stuck in anyway?
The next page is yet another beautiful splash page of MJ tossing a fake dinosaur head at Stegron with her mocking him again.
Tumblr media
The same problems from the other pages apply here. The only other things to add are how the fuck did MJ even lift that thing, let alone toss it on target. Also why is Stegron so horrified at this?
Oh no, an obviously fake dinosaur prop is falling on him. A prop obviously so lightweight that a normal human woman can lift and toss it.
How on Earth can someone with a bulletproof hide and the immense strength of a literal stegosaurus possibly cope with such a situation. He couldn’t possibly lift  it off of himself. He can only lift up to 20-25 tons! He couldn’t possibly use that strength to swat it aside. He couldn’t possibly use his strength and claws (that can cut through goddam stone) to rip it apart.
No, all he can do is beg a normal human woman to stop her attack and then yell no.
Guess Mary Jane is just that fucking awesome. Can’t wait to see Spider-Man punch out Galactus next.
We then get another splash page, this one depicting the X-Men robots (who can mimic all of the X-Men’s powers sans Jean Grey’s) take on King Cobra. MJ meanwhile hangs back with Jean’s robot.
Tumblr media
Again, the art and colouring of this page is beautiful, though the flow from the last page continues to be problematic. I also have no idea where those X-men robots came from nor how MJ had the time to activate them. Also I double-checked ASM Annual #1 where they first appeared and there were no Ice Man or Jean Grey robots. Likely because Lee and Ditko, clever as they were, figured that having robots mimic ice powers, telekinesis and telepathy would be too much of a stretch.
I will give Williams a pass on this though. With so much time elapsing it’s not unbelievable that Beck created new robots and technology allowed him to mimic ice powers somehow.
I will also give her a pass for not having MJ fight King Cobra herself. Initially I wasn’t because he’s so much weaker than Stegron or Rhino. But in reading up on his powers he’s actually very durable and deadly. Keeping her distance is genuinely the smart tactic here.
The problem comes from her doing the reasonable thing in this encounter whilst being played as so stupidly over capable against Rhino and Stegron. Instead of taking your earrings off, why not get the robots ready before the villains reached the fence.
Shit, why weren’t the X-men robots deployed as general security for the set? Or as weapons to be used to just beat up the Six in the first place? Between them, Mysterio, Master Matrix, Screwball and HERBIE, the crew had more than enough manpower and skill to locate and defeat the Savage Six?
Not only did MJ not contact the authorities or her super hero buddies but she had the means of actively defeating them herself but chose not to use it. Don’t give me crap about losing time for the filming either because she’s been uber great multi-tasking this entire series and more than willing to have stuff cut out from the movie due to time constraints.
God, this story just keeps getting stupider.
We get another nicely drawn splash page of MJ taking on Scorpion. She side steps him and causes him to get his tail stuck in the cement mixer.
Tumblr media
Another well drawn page but how the fuck did MJ know that strike was coming? And how the Hell was she quick enough to dodge it? Last I checked Mj doesn’t have spider speed or a spider sense.
Vulture then does what he always should have done at the start of this fight and just picks MJ up in the air and then drops her into some scenery. He says he could just fly past her but decides to pay her back by smacking her across the face.
Tumblr media
Why didn’t Vulture just fly past MJ in the first place?
Why does his claw tipped super strong smack across the face not kill or scar Mary Jane? Is he going easy on the person he has been willing to kill
How the fuck did falling from a height and crashing into a wooden set not kill or seriously injure Mary Jane? She has some scratches and maybe a hurt leg but that is literally it? She doesn’t have super human durability or protective armour! She would never be this unhurt. It’s not a matter of luck, this is just plain bad unrealistic writing.
And here comes some more. Wouldn’t you know it Mallorie, Diperna, a wardrobe girl, Kangaroo, Mysterio, Screwball, Master Matrix and HERBIE all happen  to come by the battle field together at that exact moment. Beck is surprised to see the six there. The two groups charge at one another.
Tumblr media
What another spectacular coincidence for Mary Jane? And how fortunate for it to have followed right after she survived being dropped from the air too.
Also how the fuck did none of the crew members notice the Six or MJ’s battle with them until they were this  close?
Where the Hell have the X-Men robots disappeared to?
And what the fuck are three civilians like Diperna and Mallorie doing getting involved? Diperna is surely the oldest and probably weakest person there and he’s posed opposite the fucking Rhino!
On the next page Mallorie and Kangaroo beat up Tarantula. Master Matrix dismantles Scorpion’s armour. Beck checks on MJ and upon learning Vulture hurt her, suits up eager to pay him back.
Tumblr media
Tarantula’s defeat is totally believable since he’s the most ‘normal’ of the Six. Master Matrix’s victory is also believable if he has control over technology (I can’t say if he does or does not). But what isn’t, is the fact that he could probably solo them on his own if that is the case. He’s the most durable, he can defy gravity and he could dismantle and use both Vulture and Scorpion’s tech against them. So why is he only  fighting Scorpion.
Also more shitty White Knighting by Mysterio. Isn’t he ust so lovable for defending the honour of his friend Mary Jane? If only Gwyneth had been his friend.
Beck uses his illusions to fight Vulture. In spite of this and in spite of beck appearing before him in costume, unmasked, with his real face showing Vulture doesn’t believe he is really Mysterio. He still insists that Beck is really Cage McKnight and that there is a master mind behind this. With that he flies away.
Tumblr media
Vulture being jealous I can buy. Vulture being so arrogant and so stupid as to believe he could never be fooled by Beck’s tricks not so much. Beck’s master of illusion is legendary. He’s worked with Beck and other Mysterios multiple times. He’s seen how effective the illusions are up close. Vulture is arrogant but also crafty. When someone is obviously using an illusion on you, is dressed as Mysterio and has Quentin Beck’s face to continue to insist it can’t be Mysterio because you are too smart to fall for his tricks is asinine.
He’s not even claiming he can’t be tricked in general, but rather not by one of Beck’s illusions. Except Beck has major pedigree within the criminal underworld for his illusions. Goddam Norman Osborn hired him for fuck’s sake. It’s public knowledge that he fooled like a dozen heroes back in ASM v5 #1. Being fooled by that guy’s illusions isn’t something anyone would be ashamed about any more than they’d regard being outsmarted by Doctor Doom.
And why would Beck admit  it is he who is the director? Why blow his cover after all he’s been through to get this movie made? I get that they are within an illusion so no one else can see or hear their conversation. But he’s just told  the guy who’s determined to ruin his movie (which is his lifelong dream) that he’s really a criminal in disguise. In doing that he’s handed Vulture the self-destruct button for his movie. He’s unbelievably lucky Vulture is stupid enough to not believe the blindingly obvious evidence.
On the final page all the other villains are just gone with no explanation, just a vague implication they might have run away. So everyone goes out for sushi and we have a last panel that feels out of an 80s sitcom ending.
Tumblr media
Because Williams is such a great writer she ingeniously left the fate’s of  the other members of the Savage Six to the reader’s imaginations.
We don’t see them running away. We don’t see them knocked out or tied up. They are just gone. Since none of them are teleporters it stands to reason they used the same van they came in. Which is weird since the implication seemed to be that it belonged to Charlie and that he left after dropping them off. If that wasn’t the case where did he go and why didn’t Master Matrix use his powers to subdue them using the van?
Or maybe they just ran away. Makes sense. I mean sure the five of them alone have collectively more than enough power to kill everyone there except for maybe Master Matrix but I guess Sonny Diperna the aging actor sucker punched the Rhino, the wardrobe girl kicked King Cobra in the nuts and Screwball did a hand stand on Stegron making him run away in fear.
Of course the real reason we don’t see what happened to the other members of the Six is because there was no reasonable way for them to have been defeated on panel so Williams and/or Gomez just cheated and didn’t show them at all. Much like how using the X-Men robots from the start or in the final battle would’ve ruined what they wanted to do.
God forbid they figure out a reasonable and logical way to resolve their story.
Nope. The super villains just disappeared with no explanation.
And since there is no evidence of them being apprehended by the authorities that means that the situation hasn’t changed at all. The Mysterio movie is still in production, the Six are still out there. They have suffered a setback but they’ve not been dealt with. There is nothing to stop them trying again and this time being better prepared since they know some of the costumed types within the crew.
Even if most of the Six decide that this is more trouble than it is worth, the Vulture definitely hasn’t. There is nothing stopping him on his own from trying again or from recruiting new people to help him.
Worse is that now Six  super villains have a grudge to bear against Mary Jane specifically. So now MJ and her loved ones could be in the crosshairs of super villains. Vulture in particular has a tendency to hold a grudge and MJ knows this from his encounters with both Spider-Man and even Aunt May. There are reasons Peter wears a mask and one of the biggest ones is that his enemies hold grudges and will try to attack him through his loved ones. Instead of taking off her earrings did MJ not think to try and disguise herself at all? You know protect the crew but also her loved ones if she makes it out alive?
But nah. Let’s just celebrate this as a huge win right? At least we protected Mysterio’s vanity project?
What a fucking train wreck. I feel disgusted that I supported this title.
I was always apprehensive of an MJ mini-series especially when it had the option of turning into an ongoing.
I disagree with an MJ ongoing on principle. But with this series I thought it would be at least decent even if I didn’t agree with it.
But it wasn’t.
It’s existence as an ongoing inherently removes Spider-Man’s best supporting character AND it has damaged Mary Jane, Mysterio and several other characters at the same time.
It needs to be discontinued as soon as possible and Leah Williams should not be allowed to do more Spider Work in the future.
Sorry, not sorry for being the only reasonable voice here, apparently the only person in the fandom who can see this series is garbage unworthy of the great characters its misrepresented.
Next time we push on into a new arc. God help me.

My support course OCs because I need to get this out in the open
Okay, so first of all, I just want to say that I hc that U.A’s support course has very few students because the hero, gen ed, and management courses are more popular for application, so there’s probably going to be like five to seven named people in this.
Second of all, when describing my OCs I’m going to include appearance, quirk things they like, personality, height, their specialty in support, and some extra tidbits!
Hoka Bushida:
Height: 6′3.
Quirk: Caligraphy (he can mimic any kind of writing just by looking at it. This can also apply to forging people’s handwriting, as long as he has a reference)
Appearance: Tallest guy in the class, very stocky and muscular, shoulder length black hair usually tied away in a bun. Round brown eyes, and tanned skin. Wears the uniform with the waistcoat, and the sleeves rolled up. Often seen wearing flannel shirts, or hoodies out of class. Wears overalls over muscle shirts, and ties a grey bandanna over his hair when in the workshop.
Likes: Anything that has to do with metalworking, or glassblowing. His parents own a forge, and he helped out a lot in early childhood. Likes to visit whenever he can.
Personality: Jovial and kind, but also very loud, and excitable. He often lets out a wild laugh when firing his weapons. He likes Hatsume a lot (not romantically), and tries to keeps her in check somewhat, while joining her in testing support items. He’s basically the dad friend, and makes sure his classmates take care of themselves, and encourages them to see projects through. He’s very stubborn however, and quick to defend his friends. Very good at estimating calculations. Additionally, he’s great at hyping people up, and will never hesitate to hit his friends or even a perfect stranger with support.
Specialty: Metalwork, or Weapons in general. From guns, to tiny blades, he can make it.
Extras: He’s the strongest person in class 1-H. A lot of people are surprised to hear that his quirk has nothing to do with is appearance. He also likes hugs, and cooking. Teams up with Satou to cook, once their classes get more familiar with each other. Loves the company of his classmates, and Power Loader, and Present Mic are his favourite heroes.
Ami Chinen:
Height: 5′3
Quirk: Venom (she can spit a non-lethal venom at others. It only paralyses somebody for two minutes if it hits the skin. She can control whether it’s venom or actual spit)
Appearance: Relatively average height for Japan, petite build, green skin with black spots like a frog, tailbone length black hair tied into a braid, hazel eyes, black sclerae. She wears the school uniform like all the other girls, though with stockings all year round. When out of uniform, she wears lots of frilly shirts and blouses, and she wears the coveralls provided by the school when in the workshop.
Likes: Strawberry anything (cake, the fruit, candy, the pattern on fabrics). It’s her comfort food, as it’s a regular treat she shares with her grandfather!
Personality: She’s the voice of reason in the class. She’s the class rep, and an older sister, so she’s used to being a leader. She’s very literal, so sarcasm and certain jokes, go over her head. She’s not the most creative when coming up with inventions, but she’s great at coming up with plans and strategies. She dislikes using her quirk, but is very competitive so if she has to, she’ll swallow her pride and use it, if it means winning. She’s not mean however, she’s actually good at comforting others. She’s a bit insecure about her skin, so she tends to cover up a lot. She gets along really well with Mina, and Tsuyu, because skin struggles, and quirks.
Specialty: Analytics, and creating anything that has to do with being able to identify and learn more about your surroundings. She’s the best person in the support course to go to when you need a battle strategy.
Extra: She was raised by her dad and grandfather, after her parents got divorced. She and her granddad are especially close, and she likes to send him pictures of her inventions and friends at U.A! Also, she really enjoys Studio Ghibli Movies, and watches them with her younger brother who she looks after often. She and Hoka are pretty good friends, and she likes to bounce ideas off of him, while he reminds her to take breaks and not to overwork herself.
Bonnie Tucker:
Height: 5′7
Quirk: Hair manipulation (her hair follicles are in constant overdrive, so she can grow durable, protective hair at will. Her hair is also prehensile. This uses up a lot of her energy however, so she can only use it in short bursts to conserve her energy)
Appearance: Bonnie is the tallest girl in class 1-H and has shoulder length dark coily hair, dark skin (she’s black), brown eyes, and a strong, athletic build. When she wears the school uniform, it’s usually with the sleeves rolled up, and often (though not always) wears the waistcoat on top, along with black converse sneakers. Out of class she normally wears oversized sweaters and shirts. She has a grunge sense of style. She has three cartilege piercings in her left ear, and one in her right. When in the workshop, she wears baggy faded jeans, and a green “Deep Dope” tank top with a black hoodie tied around her waist.
Likes: Roller skating (her mother taught her when she was younger. She can do lots of tricks, and incorporates that when she has to fight)
Personality: Calm, and quiet. She has a sarcastic, and dry sense of humour, but she’s friendly and emotionally intelligent. She hates being the centre of attention, and is bad with eye contact. Despite this, she is unafraid to call people out on their crap. She comes across as cold, and distant, but she’s actually pretty chill, down to earth, and cool with being friends with anyone. She gets along really well with people from other classes because of this. She’s also something of a daredevil, as she’s constantly trying new skating tricks, and is a natural born problem solver, as well as a quick thinker.
Specialty: Computers, and body extensions. When it comes to computers, she’s good at hacking and coding. Body extensions means that she is good at making thing that act as a part of somebody, i.e prosthetic limbs, gauntlets, clothes that can act as a second skin, special footwear, etc. She studies a lot of quirk theory, so she can advise certain ways that one could use their quirk more effectively. She’s strategy buddies with Ami for that reason.
Extras: Bonnie was born in the States! Los Angeles, California to be exact, and  transferred from her hero school back in L.A to Japan. She was the one who created Shinsou’s artificial vocal chords (they goofed around a lot when testing them). She’s often the one to tell Hatsume to calm down a little, when she gets to close to other people. Bonnie has a lot of hobbies relating to graphic art. She’s also a huge fan of Miruko, and the Wild, Wild Pussycats.
Yuuto Daguchi:
Height: 5′8
Quirk: Body portals (he can open holes into his body and store non-living stuff inside of him. However, he gets headaches the more stuff he stores inside of him)
Appearance: Relatively tall. Has black hair, and light brown skin, with black eyes. He wears glasses. Has been referred to as the prettiest boy in class 1-H. Wears the uniform normally, but switches out the school shoes with grey sneakers. Out of class, he has a simple but classy sense of style, as he normally takes to wearing button up shirts, and knitted sweaters. In the workshop, he wears the top of the gym uniform over black jeans.
Likes: Fashion design. His Mother is a model, and his dad is a famous designer, so it’s only natural that he inherited their passion for it!
Personality: The biggest sweetheart ever. Really optimistic, and encouraging. He and Hatsume get into all sorts of trouble with Power Loader. He’s really charming, and is very dramatic (like you could take the last muffin at breakfast, and he’s out here acting like you killed his dog), but gets serious when the situation calls for it. He has the same energy as Aoyama, and to an extent, Monoma. Yuuto loves experimenting with new designs for costumes, and materials, and loves helping others and giving input when asked. He’s also something of a matchmaker, having an eye for romance, and likes talking about love with Aoyama, Setsuna, Mina, and Hagakure, when their classes get closer.
Specialty: Materials and Costume improvements. He’s good at chemistry, and likes making new materials for costumes and support items. He saw a lot of female heroes in his day for photo shoots with his parents, and knew he could create better costumes. Almost passed out when he found out about Hagakure, Ibara, and Yaoyorozu’s costumes. He’s good at improving support items, making them more streamlined, durable, and practical, while still looking cute!
Extras: He was born and raised in London England. His dad is Japanese, but his mom is Pakistani-British. He and Tucker bonded over moving to a new country. Yuuta is also vice representative of class 1-H. He has a tiny crush on Hiryu Rin. He likes his quirk, because he’s basically a human backpack, and can store his stuff inside of him. In his spare time, he likes to design hero merchandise for his classmates, and Bonnie assists! He likes hanging off of Hoka’s arms, because they’re so sturdy and strong!
Reo Hanabusa:
Height: 5′9
Quirk: Bloom (He can cause plants to grow on his skin, and can pick them off with minimal pain)
Appearance: Relatively tall. Reo has Dark red curly hair which he wears in an undercut, tanned skin, and freckles across his nose. His eyes are green, and he has a lanky physique. Regarded as cute by a lot of people from other classes. He wears the uniform without the tie, and the shirt sleeves rolled up. Has a piercing through his right eyebrow. When out of class he has a punk aesthetic (appreciated by Jirou), often wearing blacks, greys, and dark colours in general. In the workshop, Reo wears a black sleeveless shirt, with the coveralls tied around his waist like Hatsume.
Likes: Skateboarding (He joins Bonnie when she goes skating)
Personality: He comes across as apathetic, and rude, and brash. Most of the time, he kind of is. He has no qualms about talking sh*t, and often likes to provoke arguments or suggest a crazy idea to Hatsume for kicks. He comes across as mean spirited, but once he’s made a friend, he’ll be supportive and helpful. Not outright though, he has a reputation to maintain. He’s kind of like the big brother of class 1-H. He isn’t cocky, or self centred however, as he is very open to ideas different than he is, and doesn’t mind letting somebody take the lead. He’s a bit sensitive about his quirk, as he inherited it from his mom and grandmother, both of whom he loves very much, and will chew out anyone who bugs him about it. He roots for underdogs, and underground heroes mainly. Ironically enough, his favourite hero is Kamui Woods
Specialty: Like Hatsume, Reo is a bit of a jack of all trades, designing and creating whatever idea pops into his head. But his main area of expertise is traps and transportation. Nets, capture tools, vehicles, he’ll create both.
Extras: His mom owns and runs a flower shop, and his dad works as a mechanic. He helps out at his mom’s flower shop occasionally, and visits his dad at work when he can. He, along with Kaminari, Sero, Awase, Kaibara, and Bonnie are basically the “roast anyone who deserves it” squad. He calls everyone in his class by their first names, and in return, they call him by his. He’s Black/Asian/Latino (his dad is black, his mom is Japanese/Lantina. Dad took mom’s last name). He got picked on a lot for his quirk at school, as a lot of people referred to it as a “girly and feminine” quirk, so he’s firmly against quirk discrimination of all kinds. Likes teasing Ami, and Yuuta, but admire their skills and trust their judgement. Keeps a lot of plants in his room, and only his classmates know about them.

213: Godzilla vs the Sea Monster
If you've ever wondered, the giant mantis footage over the opening credits is from Son of Godzilla, which was the Godzilla movie after this one.  Also, the reason this episode will never be released on DVD (and keeps getting taken down off YouTube) is because Film Ventures International never owned the rights to it – they released it and sold it to MST3K illegally.  Even more bizarre, this movie has in common with Godzilla vs Megalon not only appearing on MST3K, but being a Godzilla movie that was not originally supposed to have Godzilla in it.  Megalon was intended to be a stand-alone Jet Jaguar vehicle, while Sea Monster would have starred King Kong.  The Fun Facts that surround this movie are more entertaining than the movie itself!
There always seems to be a lot going on in Godzilla movies and this one is no exception.  We begin with Ryota, an idiot with idiot friends, who needs a boat to go searching for his lost brother. They steal one from a bank robber who stole it from an American businessman (this is a simplification, but what happens in the movie is dumber), only to be caught in a storm, menaced by a giant lobster, and wash up on an island somewhere.  The island turns out to belong to... uh... I'm gonna assume it's the Organization Known as Q from Mighty Jack.
TOKaQ is importing slave labor in the form of extras dressed as cartoon Pacific Islanders, and putting them to work making monster repellent so its ships can get past the lobster.  In trying to rescue the slaves and make their own escape, the gang of idiots happens across Godzilla hibernating underground – they set up a lightning rod to zap him, and he wakes up pissed.  After fighting a giant vulture that exists for some reason, he makes crab cakes out of the lobster and then destroys tOKaQ's installation.  Meanwhile, the extras on the next island over are doing an all-day song and dance routine hoping to wake Mothra, who may be everybody's only hope for escaping the island before the nuclear reactor goes critical.
Okay, so that's a secret terrorist group, a bank robbery, a missing person, and no less than four monsters, all jostling for position within the same plot.  Before we go into any of that, though, let's talk about what is conspicuously not in this movie.   If you've seen the film, or even if you just paid attention during my summary above, you will have noticed that most of the story takes place on a small island in the middle of the Pacific.  This means that all the monster fights happen either in the water or else on rocky hillsides.  What's missing?
The answer is urban carnage.  Godzilla vs Megalon didn't have much of that but at least there was the dam-buster scene. In this film, there is absolutely zero city-crushing whatsoever! Why the hell did the writers think we go to see Godzilla movies, if not to watch guys in cumbersome costumes demolish lovingly crafted miniature buildings?
Even if you're not here for the sheer joy of destruction, scenes with buildings and trees in them would have provided a sense of scale that is totally missing here.  When Megalon knocks down the dam and throws the truck containing our heroes across the countryside, it gives us an impression of just how enormous this roach is supposed to be.  When Godzilla fights a giant lobster underwater with nothing in view but a bunch of rocks, there's no such reference.  It's not only less fun, it fails at drawing you into the movie's world.  My suspension of disbelief does not demand much of a kaiju eiga, but it still didn't get it out of Godzilla vs the Sea Monster.
There are also quite a few shots in which the texture and colour of the Godzilla costume are entirely too much like the rocks in the background.  Godzilla's a forty-storey dinosaur – he doesn't need camouflage!  The suit in this movie is the same one they'd used in the previous Godzilla vs Monster Zero.  It's lumpy and ugly, and generally looks like it is in poor repair.
The lack of city destruction is only one of several reasons why Godzilla vs the Sea Monster just doesn't feel like a proper Godzilla movie.  For another thing, there's the music: the movie is completely missing the distinctive Godzilla theme that had been a part of every previous film.  Instead, quite a few scenes have no music at all, and for some reason part of the climactic fight between Godzilla and the lobster is set to what sounds like surf movie music.
Third, there's the way the monsters are handled.  In a lot of the more entertaining Godzilla films, the monsters are characters – they have names and backstories, and are frequently more memorable in this respect than the humans.   Godzilla's backstory has been retconned several times over the course of the series, but it's always there in some form and is usually important to what the monster does and why he does it.  Mothra, too, has her own unique mythology (mothology?).  The cult of Mothra plays some role in this film, barely, but Godzilla is seen doing things he's never done before, such as hibernating and taking an interest in an individual human.
The new monsters, meanwhile, have no background to them at all. Even the most absurd of Godzilla opponents usually come with a story: Megalon was the guardian of Seatopia.  Hedorah was the product of pollution mutating sea life.  Space Godzilla was created when a sample of Godzilla's genetic material was carried into space by a sentient rose bush and was hit by cosmic rays (I never said the backstories made sense).  The lobster and bird monsters in Godzilla vs the sea Monster just appear out of nowhere.  The fact that they don't have names is apparently a product of the dubbing – the Japanese version tells us that the bird is called Gai, while the lobster is Ebirah.  The fact that they have no associated story, however, makes it clear that they are plot devices rather than characters.
Actually, even Godzilla and Mothra are plot devices in this movie. The former is only brought into play as a distraction so that our so-called heroes can free the island slaves, and the latter does nothing but provide a last-minute airlift.  Because of the isolated setting, there is no hint of the apocalyptic danger so many other movies in the franchise try to present – none of these monsters are a threat to the world, or even to Japan.  The potentially world-shattering bad guys of the story are tOKaQ, and as Tsubaraya Eiji discovered when the ratings came in for season one of Mighty Jack, they're not actually all that scary.
Even worse, the monster fights in this movie are awful.  For starters there's the aforementioned lack of scale, and then there's the fight choreography, which sucks.  There's a bit where Godzilla and Ebirah play volleyball, for crying out loud (incidentally, ebi is Japanese for shrimp, as in ebi nigiri... so maybe Ebirah isn't a lobster, but a really, really jumbo shrimp?).  The fight between Godzilla and Gai is shot so that it's hard to tell what's going on.  The fights in Godzilla vs Megalon were comical, but you knew what was happening and they fit with the overall cartoon aesthetic of the film.  The ones in Godzilla vs the Sea Monster are just bad, and it's weird to see two monsters headbutting styrofoam boulders at each other in a movie that's otherwise supposed to be serious.
The human villains are not just a poor substitute for monster action, they're not even good villains in their own right.  Much like their counterparts in Mighty Jack, tOKaQ here have no clear goal or plan that is ever elucidated beyond vague talk about 'nuclear weapons' and 'world domination'.  There is a level on which this is somewhat realistic, I guess, since Ryota and his idiot buddies don't have a clear idea what's going on beyond Bad Stuff and the audience is supposed to be in their shoes.  Their self-appointed sabotage mission fails to feel very urgent, however, when there's no clear idea what the consequences of failure will be.
I'm not comparing the villains of this movie to those of Mighty Jack just for the sake of a joke, either.  The guy in charge of effects in this movie was none other than Tsubaraya Eiji himself, and director Fukuda Jun spent the early sixties churning out secret agent movies before giving us several of the worst entries in the Godzilla series, including Godzilla vs Megalon, Son of Godzilla, and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla.  It feels like Fukuda and Tsubaraya were determined to make this a spy shenanigan movie no matter how they had to twist the premise to do so.  Seeing Tsubaraya's name in the credits also kind of makes me doubt my theory that the TV series version of Mighty Jack would have fleshed out tOKaQ a little.  Apparently these guys really did think vague villains were something they could get away with.
When people talk about 'good' versus 'bad' in something like a Godzilla movie, there are two things that the word 'good' might mean. There's 'good' as in an entertaining and successful movie – and then there's 'good' as in an entertaining but unsuccessful movie.  Godzilla, King of the Monsters is 'good' in the first sense.  Godzilla vs Megalon is 'good' in the second.  Godzilla vs the Sea Monster doesn't manage either.  It sucks, but it just doesn't suck in that special way that makes it enjoyable.  It comes across as dull and difficult to follow, which are two things a movie about giant rubber monsters should definitely never, ever be.

the graduation photos with tong and junior.... they're wearing each other's graduation robes. the colour theory of it all.... i will scream
Anon! I KNOW!! There's no reason why Pat would have red and Pran would have blue if their faculty colours are the opposite (their gowns would represent that)...other than if they purposely swapped themselves.
Tumblr media
I just watched the whole thing again and I cried at several moments when some of the colour combinations actually registered in my brain. Now I can't wait to do my clothes post. I first thought this episode diverged from the patterns we've been seeing but no...so much makes sense according to what I've been sh*tposting all along.
I mean, LOOK at this moment...young-Pat in blue with red over the top and young-Pran in a minty-green/blue...I mean...this was the moment I couldn't hold back my tears:

Predictions for the angst/happiness ratio in episode 7 based on my colour theories:
(not in running order and all taken with a pinch of salt because I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of scenes from the episode trailer all happen with the first five minutes in a flirting montage...leaving the rest of the episode as a complete unknown 🤪)
I’m ignoring the first scene at Pran’s home because anything with his Mum = angst to some degree.
But then the lecture hall - there’s no green from what we can see, so I think this is just a cutsie scene 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pran feeding Pat: Pran is in a yellow and blue top! - I think he’s definitely happy here, no angst (and by the scene in the trailer when Pat’s punching his pillow, I think Pran has absolutely succeeded in flirting 😏) (and is that a small yellow/orange detail over Pat’s heart, I see?! 👀)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This second food related scene also seems like it will be harmless (apart from death-by-flirting). Pran’s t-shirt might not be bright yellow but it’s a creamy/yellow, no? (Although, what’s that plaid shirt in the background?).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whilst we might not get another kiss, or even a confession/end of the bet/start of the relationship yet, this rooftop scene has high hopes for being a happy one - look how bright Pat’s yellow top is! Pran is in white though, so he might still be holding back. There are a lot of yellow lights in the background too...
Tumblr media
This massage scene also looks happy - and this looks like a sleeveless shirt...so maybe Pran’s wearing Pat’s top! - but the few green lights in the background might mean this scene isn’t as ‘obstacle-free’ as it seems.
Tumblr media
Now for the potential angst scenes with obstacles to their happiness... This one we are all on tenterhooks waiting for and it looks so promising. My guess is they are teasing each other and it won’t end in a kiss. Also, look at that dark green t-shirt behind Pat - yes, he may have taken it off (signifying the obstacle is gone) but I think be wary of this moment! 😏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly, this incredibly cute face wipe/nose boop moment. It’s going to be adorable...but look at Pat’s shirt...and the fact that they are wearing the same clothes as when Pat walks out of Pran’s room upset... I put an angst warning on this one.

Hey! Before you've even gotten the chance to get into the costume analysis of episode 10 i wanna talk about this shirt with you.
If you haven't seen Bad Buddy episode 10 stop reading now: spoilers below!
The text reads "Hier bin ich Mensch, hier kauf ich ein" which translates to "Here i am human, here i shop" (it sounds better in German, trust me)
This is a slogan for the grocery store DM. But the slogan refers to a famous quote by Johann Wolfgang Goethe "Hier bin ich Mensch, hier darf ich's sein" which translates to "Here i am human, here i can / am allowed to be one"
Now this quote stems from his tragedy Faust. In this scene Faust is on a walk and goes into a monologue about the beauty of nature and how he can only truly be himself there, where no one is around.
This could be foreshadowing for next episode, where we see Pat and Pran running away to the sea, to nature. They can only be truly human, true to themselves, in nature where no one who knows them is around.
Karometeenk!! This is amazing! Thank you so much for sending this to me. It took a while for me to reply/post because I didn't know whether to keep the info for my costume posts or to post this as is (or if I should wait until you had posted it since I didn't want to steal your thunder)...but I realise this information deserves to be seen and I know you've already added it to your original post (so if people want to see that then click the link) but now it'll reach more people (hopefully).
I think this t-shirt is going to go on my top ten list of Pat's shirts that I will make/post after episode 12!

Honestly...when I saw Pran's minty-green towel I said to myself that the 'break-up' must be staged...and then the camera paned to Pran's bedsheets - with yellow between blue and red - and I...I mean, come on! I should have trusted my instinct.
(I did also think that Pat texted that pic of Pran's dorm room to Pran, and that it was Pran that Pat was talking to on the phone when there was a knock at the door...but it wasn't until Pat opened the door and Pran was there that I could actually breathe a sigh of relief).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't felt more validated and vindicated in a long time. I mean I've been harping on about these colours for two goddamn months...and I feel like I can now shout "I WAS RIGHT!!!" 😂

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)
Episode 12:
How is it the last one?! 😭 It's taken me a while to write this because it feels like once I'm done then Bad Buddy really is over...but I can't put it off any longer.
If it weren't enough seeing Pran's mint green towel and Pat and Pran's bedsheets (the former being red and blue, the latter having red, yellow, and blue stripes) in the beginning, surely we should have known they were still together by their first outfits. I mean, they're literally wearing the SAME COLOURS. They're colour coordinating. They've become one. And with Wai in such a vibrant yellow - that should have been an indicator that Pat is still in love and happy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Generally, a lot of this episode has quite a neutral, earthy palette of colours - apart from some vibrant choices which I'll come to later on. At first I couldn't see a pattern or reasoning for this (I like to make connections) until I took the screenshots and saw the two families side by side. I was then reminded of my interpretation of the confrontation scenes at the end of ep 10 - in which Pran and his mum wear pastel/muted colours whereas Pat's family wear brighter colours and deeper shades, highlighting the differences between the two families.
But now, here, four years later, we have Pat's dad eventually drink the liquor that Pran gave him and Pran's mum giving Pran's guitar to him and smiling when she hears him and Pat upstairs. The families may not have reconciled yet, they might not be openly accepting of their son's boyfriend...but they've started their journey, they're on their way, albeit slowly (and whilst they wait for them, Pat and Pran are living their best life regardless), and this I believe is reflected in the shared palette of colours.
Tumblr media
Yes, Pat's family has more red (in the furnishings and Pran's mum's top and earrings) but there is blue in Pat's dad's stripes and Pat's t-shirt (see below). And yes, Pran's mum has a richer blue and there's no red to be seen...but the other colours are similar - and linked by Pat and Pran's once again coordinating colours...even Ink and Pa are contributing to this one big extended family.
Tumblr media
Quick aside to bring up again the fact that Pat is wearing the same smile shirt that's in his laundry basket in ep 1 when he first reminisces about him and Pran as kids.
One reoccurring colour in this episode is brown in varying shades, which I think is representative of sacrifice or yielding. Pat and Pran both sacrifice something for each other, they know that to love each other fully they each have to give the other the space they want and need to grow as individuals - Pran goes to Singapore whilst Pat stays in Thailand to work for his father. They also sacrifice some element of their freedom by keeping their relationship a secret from their families and friends...although it also gave them the possibility to be together as a couple - a compromise had to be made. And the parents sacrificed being involved in a part of their son's lives by not being able to put their own rivalry behind them.
In this vein, I was happy to see Pat's dad in brown when he yielded to Dissaya and reversed so that she could drive on before him. 👏🏼
Tumblr media
And now for a change of colours...and on to mint green! I've already mentioned Pran's towel at the beginning, but I liked that mint green was included when Pat took Pran to the airport to go to Singapore - symbolising the strength of their union in the moment of physical separation. They may not be seeing each other in person for a while but that doesn't mean they're any less of a couple.
Tumblr media
I've also seen a lot of gifs/photos where the creators have enhanced the mintiness of the curtain behind Pat when Pat and Pran are reminiscing the past four years (handily recapping for us the audience as well). It's subtle but I do love that in a moment when they are showing the strength of their love and togetherness, once again mint is present.
Tumblr media
And in a similar vein, I was so happy to see Pa in purple! I stand by it being their couple colour (like mint green is for Pat and Pran)...although I wish I could make a cool interpretation for Ink's blue demin shirt...but whatever (maybe it's just there as a connection to Pat 🤷🏽‍♀️ - not everything has to mean something).
Tumblr media
So on to the more vibrant colours...I've already written about all the red and blue details in the episode - and that includes Pa and Ink's red and blue outfits in the bar. I do find it interesting that both in the bar/noodle scene and in the high school reunion, Pat is the one in 'neutral' colours (black/grey) whilst Pran is in orangey/red, and then green, blue, red, and white stripes. In some ways this feels like a bit of a reversal for them - it feels easier to associate Pat with the more 'colourful' outfits (even though this seems to show it's actually quite even). @transpat wrote a great analysis of Pat and Pran's character development, which I think explains this reversal well:
"ep12 was such a perfect mirror to ep8. where pat couldn’t bear to keep them a secret and pran was too afraid of being found out, pat now learns their love doesn’t need to be announced to the world to remain valid or for them to stay true to themselves, while pran understands why pat wanted to be loud about his relationship, he’s the one who doesn’t hold his laughter, the one to send his father-in-law gifts."
Pran used to be reserved and feared for the consequences of their relationship...but now he's unabashedly open. Pat used to be loud, brash, and impulsive but now he understands that his love isn't any less if it's quiet. ❤️💙
Tumblr media
And lastly, the wonderful final scene 😭 With both of them again in neutral colours but this time Pat has yellow on his shirt...literally wearing his love and happiness on his chest. I received a lovely anon ask regarding all the fairy lights...suggesting that the shear number of lights and electric candles here symbolises Pat and Pran just being done with hiding their love and happiness. They're both loving loudly now.
Tumblr media
I can't believe that's it. It's over. It really is over now. 😭

Wait...what?!
You're telling me that Pran's stripy t-shirt from the end of ep 10, beginning of ep 11, and end of ep 11...the t-shirt he wears that bookends his and Pat's time at the beach, during which Pran's conscience is divided between Pat and his own mum/family...that t-shirt he then wears to go back home because he can never truly be happy unless he has some kind of relationship with his parents (regardless of how complicated it might be)...you're telling me that the stripes on that shirt are THE SAME colours as his parents' clothes?!?!

Episode 12 Red and Blue details
It feels difficult doing these last posts this week...because once they're done, I won't have any more episodes to write about. *sigh* Anyway, on to the small details I couldn't fit into my costume analysis post...and this week there are a lot of little combinations of red and blue dotted throughout the episode.
One reason why I wait for so many days after the episode airs to write these posts is partly because I need time for my brain to assimilate the information from the episode, as well as to read all your thoughts and analysis, to help me see the connections and make my interpretations. Anyway, all that is to say that I had an epiphany in my sleep last night that the presence of so many little red and blue details could be like a reminder that this story - the journey we have been taken on through the twelve episodes - is about Pat and Pran. It's their story. Not their friends'. Not their parents'. That might seem obvious but I think this is part of the reason why we don't see a big resolution of the argument at the end of ep 10 (just like we didn't see a big resolution of Wai dropping the curtain), because the story is focusing on Pat and Pran and their choice to be happy despite the external forces. (Others have written this better...but I don't remember to include the links unfortunately).
So, for the actual details...we first see both sets of bedsheets - Pran's with yellow as well as the red and blue, and Pat's (and Pran's, let's be honest it is their apartment) with red one side and blue the other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I already mentioned the drum kit and guitar in another post, but I do love that this is the only time they play together with the blue drum kit and red guitar. Also note the drinks in the foreground...

I thought it was very interesting that Pran has this vibrant blue sweater round his shoulders in the classroom (if I'm not mistaken, in the high school scenes, they rarely have other clothes alongside their uniform - apart from the music concert) and although it isn't Pat who has the complimentary red, it's still in the scene on the other student (one of the others has blue and yellow on his jacket too).
Tumblr media
The graduation photo moment - where Pat and Pran must have purposely swapped robes with each other since their faculty colours are the opposite to what they're wearing (and their gowns would represent their faculty).
Tumblr media
And I love love love this tiny, blink and you'd miss it, moment of yet another of Korn's jackets - this one all yellow with stripes of red and blue on the shoulder. I mean, he's worn SO MANY that he could have just been in any of the ones we've seen already for this five second moment...but he's literally a walking advert showing - whilst protecting - Pat and Pran's love and happiness - this is where Pran is explaining how only Korn, Wai, Ink, and Pa know about them being together at Uni.
Tumblr media
And lastly, Ink and Pa in the bar...Pa in Pran's red and Ink in Pat's blue. Yes, they're all there as friends, as equals, but this is reminding us that this story is Pat and Pran's.

Yes I'm still harping on about it...
(scroll on past if this colour stuff is not your jam 😂🤷🏽‍♀️)
...but I keep thinking about the ep 12 preview (even though I said I wouldn't - HA!) and about the families' outfits...
Because I want to believe...god I want to believe SO MUCH that the fact that Pat's family ALL have red (the cushion on his mum's lap, his dad's top and Pa's hoodie), with a red rug underfoot, and a red light bottom right...and dammit even a picture of PARIS above their heads (the city of love, right?)...
Tumblr media
...and the fact that that Pran's mum has blue in her top (and is that a minty-green in there too? 👀), with the blue flowers behind, and his dad in a colour mixed of the brown (yielding) and yellow (love) he has worn before...
Tumblr media
...I want to believe that this means that life hasn't just gone back to what it was before the arguments at the end of ep 10.
(Because if there were no chance of growth and reconciliation, if the parents really were going to shut Pat and Pran away from each other, wouldn't this be shown with a shift of the families back to their own colours? So Pran's family in red and Pat's family in blue...?)
I want to believe that whilst Pat and Pran were away the families were talking - first just amongst themselves -> with Pran's mum and dad discussing the impact their choices have had on their only son whilst Pat's mum and Pa talk with Ming about how they need to find a way to properly atone for what Ming did, with the subject of Pran saving Pa from drowning coming up -> and then together...perhaps starting with the two mothers (...?). Maybe Pat's mum cooks something and takes it over as a peace offering to open a conversation...
I don't know. I don't care about the specifics.
But I want to believe that whilst Pat and Pran were away, the families were talking, trying to find a middle ground, a way to allow their sons to be happy and to not continue the misery they have lived in for the past twenty years.
I want to believe that Pat and Pran thought their parents would be upset and would want them to break-up...when in fact, after they walk into their respective houses, their own parents tell them of the progress they have started to make. The parents tell them they're sorry, they were wrong, and acknowledge the unhappiness they have caused...and then tell them that Pat and Pran can be together, that they support them, even if it might be difficult at first, but they'll all work at it together.
I don't believe Pat and Pran walk into their homes and no one mentions the arguments. No one mentions the lies that were told. That life returns to before. How can any parent just ignore something as huge as the revelation at the end of ep 10? How can four of them?
Am I in denial? Am I in delulu land?
Yes, probably - Ha! - we've seen it before when I was so adamant that it didn't make sense for Pat and Pran to be stood outside their homes at the end of ep 11 in the outfits in which they went to the beach...but I was wrong...and I understand now exactly why it DOES make sense...(maybe this needs a longer post but it's like the clothes represent them in their Bangkok lives with their families and so the clothes bookend their trip to the beach: The clothes get taken off and put aside temporarily whilst they experience freedom away from all their troubles - they become Pat and Pran: free of their obligations, their history, their family - but in the end they DO have to return to that life, so the clothes get taken back and put on again - they become Pat and Pran: sons to their parents, students at uni - to return to the place they were in before they left...or something like that - I bet @jemmo could write something much more poetic about it [that's not a challenge or a request btw!...just a fact 😊])
Anyway, this got long and I rambled again.
How do I want to finish?...I don't know, maybe I've said it all...and probably even too much 😂
You know, I'm fine with being proven wrong - if it ends up making sense - but this time I really hope I'm right. Because even though I know Pat and Pran will end up together by the end...I still need the journey there to involve the parents and their growth and development.

Let's talk about...Pat's shirt in episode 11
At first AND second watch, I was sad to see that none of Pat's shirts in ep 11 really struck me as particularly meaningful (unlike several I've written about before)...and initially I put this down to the fact that Pat and Pran were borrowing clothes the whole time...
But then I thought...what does that have to do with anything? 😂🤦🏽‍♀️
Then, I was going through the episode taking screenshots for my costume posts when it hit me. This one. This one is the iconic shirt of this episode (and it might just make it to my list of top ten because it's just that good). I'll explain below:
Tumblr media
So in part 4, in the now legendary 'red shirt' scene, Pat says "I know that sooner or later we will need to go back...but I want to stay here as long as we can." He's saying: I know we can't stay here, I just wanted to forget about our real lives and our families for a while and just be with you.
And this quest to forget is prevalent in parts 1 and 2:
On the bus, Pat says he wants to "run away to a place where there's only us" - I want to forget everyone else who can hurt us. | On the rocks, he tells Pran, "No one can bother us now" - we can forget our families and our troubles. | Responding to Pran's hesitancy about taking out the sim card, he asks, "Don't you want to be free?" - don't you want to forget our lives even for a short while? | Then they both yell, "Screw them!" to the ocean - Forget them! | Lying on the bed, when Pran brings up their families, Pat requests, "Can we not talk about this" - can we forget things for a while? | When Pran starts to reminisce about cooking with his mum, Pat distracts him with asking to be fed - forget about that just now, focus on me, on us. | And when Pran says he's quit playing the guitar, Pat tells him, "What did we agree on? We can do anything we want here" - forget about all the reasons why you can't play and just do it.
Why is this all relevant? Well what animal is renowned for having exceptionally good memory?...so much so that this idiom exists: "An elephant never forgets." 🧐
Pat is wearing a symbol of "not forgetting" at a time when all he wants to do is forget - about his family, the lies, the probability that he and Pran can't be together - as well as realising that Pran just can't forget his own family...and the irony of that juxtaposition just emphasises his desperation to shut out the real world even though it's impossible. And he tries, he tries to hold it at bay, but he eventually realises that they can't stay there, they need to go home and face reality, face the thing they can never forget.
(Edit: And here's another idiom I ironically forgot to include: there's an "elephant in the room" that Pat and Pran are absolutely not talking about...)
It's so subtle. The shirt is so innocuous. But dammit it's so full of meaning. 😭💙
-
And there's a little bonus feature to this shirt as well...Whilst Pat is wearing it, Junior has a t-shirt which connects back to the wonderful red 'DM' drug store style t-shirt from episode 10. As @karometeenk explained, the slogan on the shirt refers to a famous quote from a monologue Faust makes on a walk about the beauty of nature and how he can only truly be himself there, where no one is around. This absolutely was foreshadowing ep 11 where Pat and Pran run away to the beach, to nature, to somewhere where they can be truly themselves and where no one else around knows them. Now, a few people were wondering why "California" was used instead of the usual name of the store, "DM" - well maybe here's your answer -> Junior's "Malibu Beach California" t-shirt. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)
Episode 10:
At first or second glance, I wasn't sure there was anything particularly thematic about the costume choices this episode...that was until I had separated some scenes for the details post and for Ink and Pa's analysis...then I realised HOW RED this episode was for Pat, Pran, and their families. So 👏🏼 much 👏🏼 red 👏🏼.
As I already mentioned in a reply to an ask, the red that Pran faced with Pat's whole family could have been a danger or warning sign...or it could have been an indication that Pat's family would accept Pat and Pran's relationship easier than Pran's. We still don't know, of course, since the episode ended with the focus on the feud between the parents rather than the issue of the sons dating, but I find it interesting that Pat's mum has both blue and pink on her top. I'll come back to her later.
Tumblr media
When Pat comes home from the hospital, Pat's dad, Ming, is again in red, as well as Pat AND Pran. Here, the red is showing support for Pran as Ming swallows his pride and offers a thank you to Pran at the complete surprise of Pat.
@karometeenk sent me some AMAZING information about Pat's t-shirt: First, the slogan is for a German store (we later see Pat and Pran get caught by Ming in a supermarket) and it refers to a famous quote by Johann Wolfgang Goethe: "Hier bin ich Mensch, hier darf ich's sein" which translates to "Here I am human, here I can/am allowed to be one". This quote is from his tragedy Faust, and in one scene Faust goes into a monologue on a walk about the beauty of nature and how he can only truly be himself there, where no one is around. This could be foreshadowing episode 11, where Pat and Pran run away to the sea, to nature. They can only be truly human, true to themselves, in nature where no one who knows them is around. (I've blended karometeenk's words with mine).
Tumblr media
The next morning (I presume), although red is absent (apart from Pran's 'P' light), Pat has a wonderful yellow sleeveless top and mint green shorts whilst sleeping in Pran's bed (need I say it again? Yellow = their love and happiness and mint green = them as a couple). It took a while to see the words on his top but @shortpplfedup managed to decipher them as "Sex Air Sun" - again perhaps alluding to the freedom Pat and Pran will find themselves on their escape next episode...or connecting to Pat's top later which has the word "Sun" on the front (more on that below).
Tumblr media
And then back to red. Lots of red. With Pat's t-shirt also having yellow trim for the wonderful public confession orchestrated by Pran for Pat to finally be able to shout his love for Pran and for everyone to know Pat is taken. @jemmo wrote a fantastic analysis of this scene, you should go read it if you haven't already. I loved that Joke seemed to be the only person in blue, showing that he was just playing his animosity for Pat as directed by Pran...but I did wonder (as a lot of you) whether there might have been something stronger than water in his flask 🤭.
Tumblr media
Like brother, like sister...aaaaand we have another character donning a sleeveless shirt when talking about their crush (I'm looking at you, Korn). How delightful to see both siblings in sleeveless shirts...and Pa in Pat and Pran's colours and Pat again in yellow and minty-green shorts. Later, Pat is once again in a deep red t-shirt whilst Pa is wearing a similar beige to the café scene when Ink buys her a cake.
Tumblr media
I just love the pairing of these t-shirts - Pat (as we have been saying) is the sunshine of the series, so it's apt his t-shirt has "Sun" written twice, both in his colour blue and in yellow, and complimenting him Pran's t-shirt has "Radiate Positivity" under a rainbow. Again, more red.
Tumblr media
I've already written about Pat and Pran's clothes (more red!) resembling the school building, but I loved the red and blue pompoms on the backdrop. Before they sit on the stage, Pran has a little whistful look to the left of the picture and I think he's reminiscing about the Christmas concert. It's almost like the pompoms are there to cheer on the development their relationship has taken and will hopefully continue to take through ep 11 and 12.
Tumblr media
And so for the ending. And another iconic shirt from Pat. This one I love because it's not only foreshadowing next week's beach trip (or a nod back to the previous beach trip), but it has the same colours as the lights in the background of the rooftop when he's comforting Pran. It's also continuing the symbolism of Pat being the louder, braver of the two, which we see in this scene where not only does Pat admit to his parents that he and Pran are boyfriends but he's literally in the lighter foreground whilst Pran is in the shadows, further back, and in a pastel shade of his red.
Tumblr media
I've made separate screenshots of the two family interactions because I think it's interesting to see the difference in intensity of their colours. As already mentioned, Pran's pink shirt is a pastel, muted shade of his own red...and which is covering a t-shirt which has deep blue stripes - perhaps indicating how he's been hiding/protecting his feelings for Pat (there's also a teal stripe and a pumpkin/beige) but also feeling not fully bold in the face of the parents. Dissaya has a pale beige top, which could be indicating how drained she feels at having been wronged by Ming.
Tumblr media
In contrast, in Pat's family's home, Pat has his loud shirt, his mum is in a deep red and possibly dark brown pants, and Ming has a light and dark brown shirt. Pat, who loves loudly. His dad, who is trying to keep up the pretence of not having done anything wrong...and although he doesn't apologise at the end he does walk away, perhaps realising that he has to finally give up this façade. And Pat's mum...who I think hope will eventually play an important role in the reconciliation of both families. I thought she was overly useless/hopeless in this scene (there was some serious eye-rolling happening at her) and - coupled with her blouse in the hospital earlier and being a slight voice of reason for Ming to thank Pran earlier - it makes me think that maybe she might just turn fierce and force Ming and Dissaya to find a way to make peace for the sake of their sons. At least, I hope 🤞🏽 (Maybe Pa revealing that Pran saved her from drowning will also help).
Tumblr media
I'll just end this by saying that, from an ask I received, I wondered if the amount of red in this episode was a slight misdirection - making us think that the biggest obstacle for Pat and Pran's happiness was going to be Pran's mum...when it turns out that Ming stealing Dissaya's scholarship is basically (at least as far as we know) the root cause of the family conflict. Now that Ming is the Bad Guy™ (not that Dissaya is much better mind you), I wonder if we'll see a lot of blue next episode (or I hope we do!). And following that, IF ep 12 is the happy ending we all so desperately want, I wonder if we'll see a lot of yellow and mint green (or maybe this is just my wishful thinking!).
