I dont even have an insta account, I'm using a VPN and these fuckers hate it when they can't steal your data so they deactivate any account I make in 24 hours. And then ask for a picture of my face to unlock it, fuck off.
But I did visit barry’s insta every chance I could, it was refreshing to see the old posts. Probably the least fake celeb I've ever seen. His pr team sucks. First the hypersexualisation, the weird ass romance plot and now this? Let this man live on his own terms, he was doing just fine before yall saw he was white boy of the month and dug your claws in.
Idk it’s none of my business but I just don't wanna see him crash and burn because they have him doing too much. He looks progressively more exhausted everytime he pops up with a new photoshoot. Like u can put make up on him I can still see it. Come home barry the kids miss you, spend a few weeks hidden in ireland to rest a little.

Crazy to me that most pop history stuff about the Diamond Necklace Affair has the anti-MA backlash portrayed as just completely delusional misogynistic xenophobia, and doesn't at all mention the impact of the botched public branding of Jeanne de la Motte on public opinion.

Well said!!! Also, the harries on that blog! They’re obsessed!! 🤡
unless harry changes up his entire PR strategy, starts saying interesting or culturally relevant things, he's little more than a cultural court jester for teeny girls. if he couldn't get nominated on time's person of the year this year after winning AOTY, then what on earth would he have to do to get it next year? he's not gonna win another AOTY next year. any album he releases will be derivative and likely sell to the young tweens but not expand on his market or actually be commercially interesting or different. he's not gonna manage to say anything interesting about any of the major social issues of our times because he never has in 13 years of being famous. he's still gonna be a zionist, still spending time with transphobes, still getting hair transplants, still saying wishy washy nothings about LGBT rights, still making out with random women every other month, still wearing hideous and culturally forgettable clothing items, still being a shitty actor. why would he be considered groundbreaking when he was totally forgotten about this year too?
that's why his omission this year is actually interesting, because you'd think he had a cultural impact if you just heard the stats. but as those of us on these blogs have been saying, harry's cultural impact is limited to the very small scope of the very small type of fans he has. beyond that nobody gives a shit. nobody outside his cult of tweens is listening to his music, buying his merch, buying his pleasing, talking about his talents or anything he says. he's just like a children's entertainer, beyond what he offers these girls, nothing he does has any impact at all and is instantly forgettable.

mclaren really did make their bed and now they have to lay in it. let's not pretend that them signing daniel was not in part due to the pr happy hour they'd have with dts's star (second only to guenther) and that attracted all of us daniel fans to the team and now all the new fans they got are dropping like flies because they've done a shit job of getting anyone to care about the team instead of the drivers individually. and i'm happy to see them trying to salvage that loss.

I'm sorry to everyone who follows me for other shit but I'm going to keep posting about the Watcher situation because marketing fascinates me. I find advertising to be sickening and exploitive, but marketing as a concept is fascinating.
I'm just majorly wondering what the FUCK is going on at Watcher HQ right now. It's still relatively early on the West Coast (almost 8 am at the time I am writing this) but their lack of response is throwing up a lot of interesting markers to me (not necessarily red flags but flags all the same.)
The immediate pull back on response speaks that they knew what they were doing in terms of PR at least initially. They had their employees delete any interactions with dissenting fans, there was radio silence except for clarification on what will remain on the Youtube. Their only mistake was making that Patreon announcement with sneak peaks for the site (I can only guess they were banking that the Patrons were most likely to follow them in the move and sorely miscalculated it). Steven's post was... problematic. But he posted it before all of the backlash started so while it didn't help it wasn't a doubling down when faced with a lot of backlash.
While saving face is almost always a smart thing to do, this silence has gone on a little bit too long. They have lost tens of thousands of Subscribers in 24 hours. Their announcement video has over a 1:4 Like/Dislike ratio. Fans are talking and starting to spin the situation in ways that are actively detrimental to the company. It should be top priority to get a response out. This is crisis mode y'all. They had all day to secure a PR representative if they didn't already have one to try and salvage this and yet? Still more radio silence from the official channel.
That creates the question: are we going to see a response today or have they chosen to wait until the traditional work-week starts again? I can't help but think that waiting is a terrible idea. The fanbase is getting out of hand. They need to salvage what they can and letting the situation fester isn't going to help. Or, the even worse option is that they are going to continue like this isn't happening, which is an EVEN WORSE idea.
Whatever happens I'm watching with a perverse fascination. Its been a long time since I've seen a media blunder like this.

edit: disabled reblogs because this timeline is missing some important events. see the notes for corrections
so okay my current best understanding of what happened here is
a trans woman is the victim of mass harassment
she attempts to report the harassment to tumblr and tumblr does nothing
she posts about her frustration with tumblr staff in a way that directly provokes the ceo of automattic (but not in a way that's actually a credible threat or a bannable offense)
[speculation! this is not confirmed] the ceo is so offended that someone who dares to use the platform he owns would joke about him suffering looney tunes violence that he wants to ban her for this, but since she hasn't done anything wrong he can't do that. but since he's the ceo he can do whatever he wants so he goes through her account(s) showing stuff he doesn't like to the moderation team until he eventually stumbles upon something that actually does technically violate the community guidelines
the trans woman's blog is, for reasons that haven't been officially stated, superbanned in a way that had been previously used when a bunch of black activists were accused of being russian bots. every image she's ever posted is "removed for violating community guidelines" including images that in no way violate community guidelines
tumblr users notice that these innocent images have been removed and make the reasonable assumption that the reason it says these images were removed for violating community guidelines is that something in these images violated community guidelines. people are, understandably, appalled by the implication that a trans woman posting completely normal selfies would be a bannable offense
the ceo, in a move that literally any PR person ever would advise against, personally singles out the woman who was banned, giving explanations of why exactly she was banned that members of tumblr staff would go on to clarify were not the actual reasons. he is technically on vacation while this is happening so nobody is physically there to tell him this is a bad move
miscellaneous other users who posted about this situation are banned for unstated reasons
after getting some backlash to this, the ceo doubles down and digs himself deeper, even following the banned user to another website to harass her
some trans members of tumblr staff release an official statement condemning their ceo's actions, saying in particular that the reasons he gave for why the user had been banned were not the actual reasons, but without specifying why she actually was banned

Two things can be simultaneously true.
"Rainbow Capitalism" does not in any way signal whether corporations actually care about or help queer & trans people and only serves to generate positive PR and/or free advertising from "outraged bigots." And Corporations openly displaying symbols of pride and queer/trans community serves as modest barometer on the social acceptance of queer & trans people, and business after business pulling back it's pride merch/symbolism because of right-wing backlash is not good and potentially a sign of even worse to come.
