Comparison of Zhou Qiluo with Mystic Messenger’s Game Character

In case of serious spoilers, please read carefully.

First emphasize, in the article posted by Love and Producer's official weibo account on 0:16 10th, Aug 2018, the first draft of Zhou Qiluo was made by 2014 can not explain the similarity of Zhou Qiluo's image in the new PV release on 1st, Aug 2018 with the game characters of Mystic Messenger launched two years ago.

The progress of game character design is a long progress, and a completed design takes time to be enrich and perfect. We believe, the developed team of both game has made a such deal to Love and Producer and Mystic Messenger. But the great effort does not mean we can just use coincidence to explain the similarity of the game character in them.

Mystic Messenger (hereafter referred to MM) began developing at 2015, launched at both Android and IOS at Aug 2016. When the game launched, the whole character design of 7 game character, player character Main Character (hereafter referred to MC) and the important character Rika has completed. The causal story and deep story is around 5 of them, although at that time, Unknown does not have his own story, but he plays a lot in game's bad ending. Although Cheritz launched V route on Sep 2017 and Ray Route (Ray is Unknown) on 31st, Jan 2018, but: first, this two route is completely independent to the main story, the time, background and story is different; second, before this two route launched, they both had attended the DLC of Christmas, 2016. This all showing that the design of Unknown had also begun at 2015, not 2018.

Love and Producer (hereafter referred to LP) released the internal test at the summer of 2017, and officially launched at Dec 2017. After its launch, the story has updated twice, now goes to Chapter 18 (not end). Here we mainly compare the similarity of Zhou Qiluo and game characters in MM, especially the similarity of Zhou Qiluo's image in new PV with them.

I. The Comparison of Similar Concepts in Two Games' Character

1. Chip

"Chip" is a very important concept of Zhou Qiluo and 707. In LP, Zhou Qiluo met heroine (hereafter referred to Youran) because of a bag of chips in convenience store, then he directly calls Youran as 'miss chip'. 707 has showed his love to Honey Buddha Chip. Many Love and Producer players (hereafter referred to LPers) said, Zhou Qiluo does not love to eat chips, but snacks. However, we can see "chip" is a highlight concepts of LP's early story and advertising.

For example, in LP's Spring Festival advertisement (has been pulled down because of the controversy), chip is a key concept.

In addition, chip is an important concept of two game's marketing. Although the LP has not officially announced the business cooperation relationship with any chip manufacture. In the event of Zhou Qiluo's birthday, many LPers bought chips to celebrate. This matter actually reached the certain marketing purpose, showing "chip" is a key marketing concepts of LP.

Not only LPers, Paper Game (LP's game development company) used "chip" as Zhou Qiluo's keywords. In this year's Chinajoy, they put a bag of chips in Zhou Qiluo's room. They constantly use the "chips", proved the deep connection between the character and the chips.

Coincidentally, Honey Buddha Chip (hereafter referred to HBC) is a frequently element in MM and also an ad of Cheriz. The manufacture of Honey Buddha Chip called HAITAI is one of a sponsor of MM. Therefore, in the game, chips are shown with real logo and looks. This advertisement intuitively affected the sales of HBC. Players bring a lot purchasing.

Actually, LP and MM are not the only games used concept "chips" to design the character, also the real-life's marketing promotion used a quite similar concept. In addition, the Korean version of LP has translated the "chip" into "Honey Chip”.

2. Superhero and Space

Firstly, in many artworks, superhero equals the defender of justice. We consider it as the same concept here.

For superhero, Zhou Qiluo has called himself as the superhero and will take mission to the space. Some LPers said Zhou Qiluo call himself as the superhero because Youran has called him like this. For a same "idea", different games may have different ways to describe. Here we just talk about the similar of concepts, not the story related.

Also 707 has called himself a 'Defender of Justice', and always says he wants to travel to the space, even a wedding at the space station. MM has a spaceship under their game to interface. For the MMers, space is a very romantic point to 707. Many fans have created artworks buy using "space". Therefore, "space" has played an important role of 707.

3. Multiple Personality

For the concept of multiple personality, this two games describe it with two ways.

Performing a multiple personality role

In LP, Zhou Qiluo's surface identity is an idol, he sometimes gets acting job; and in MM, there is a musical actor ZEN. In the new chapter of LP, the upper news (only can be seen in iphoneX) shows Zhou Qiluo will perform a role of triple personality.

Being a musical actor, ZEN has performed many musicals in MM story, and there is a musical about multiple personality originally named Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (the game change few letters of the name). The purpose making ZEN perform this musical not only suit his job, but also imply of Unknown, who is triple personality.

The character is/ may be multiple personality

Zhou Qiluo's disposition has changed a lot in the new chapter with no clear reason. Without the story says he has suffered a lot or experienced some kind of shock, we consider he may be multiple personality.

In MM there is an actual triple personality character Unknown.

4. Duel Identity and Hacker

At the later story in two game, Zhou Qiluo and 707 both have duel identity, and both of them take hacker as their hidden identity. In MM, 707 run away from his parents, and with V's help he studied and become a hacker; In LP, Zhou Qiluo lived in Heaven Welfare Home belongs to Black Swan, and directly taught by key and take over this identity after the former key vanished.

In LP's story, evol is a unique concept. Every game character has different superpower named evol, according to this unique setting, we can describe Zhou Qiluo as: A genius hacker with a superpower.

But 'A genius hacker with a superpower' has appeared in 707's call in MM:

Although superpower is not a very key concept in MM, and 707 dose not actual have superpower, but same way to say it makes people think.

5. Zhou Qiluo's new image in PV is similar with Unknown in MM

Tattoo

In the new PV release in 1st, Aug 2018, Zhou Qiluo has a black tattoo from his right shoulder to arm, Unknown has a same black tattoo, in same arm, in same place. Although their tattoo is different in pattern and meaning, it looks too much familiar at the first sight.

Game CG

Zhou Qiluo's game CG is very similar with one of Unknown's CG, similar posture, similar perspective angle. We zoom the head part and put these two CG together show the line of nose, ear, chin can overlap.

Change of the color of hair and eyes

In new PV, Zhou Qiluo changes his hair into white, eyes' color from gold to blue; in MM's story, Unknown's red hair fading after drinking elixir to white and his golden eyes changes to blue.

Change of disposition

In new PV, Zhou Qiluo changes to a cold person from an idolish character; after the brainwashing, Unknown turns into an angry and intense from a soft and introverted. Although their disposition is different both before and after, they both have a enormous change of it.

Outfit

Their outfit also looks similar, black choker, wearing vest or so.

6. Heaven Welfare Home and Mint Eye

In LP', Zhou Qiluo lived in Heaven Welfare Home when he was young, an anonymous man describes it as 'there will happy like in heaven'; in MM, Unknown always say Mint Eye is a heaven can help people and bring happiness.

Heaven Welfare Home is a welfare home which choose little children to grow their superpower, and order to get an ace, they will inject medicine every week. In MM, as the heresy set up by Rika, Mint Eye is aiming on make people happy. Rika thinks only she can heal people, so there is also a regular ceremony in Mint Eye, makes its believer drink a medicine named elixir. This medicine would cause adverse reaction of body, like unclear mind, drinking in long-term even makes people being brain washed. After being adopted Unknown was forced by Rika to drink elixir, causes he being brainwashed, his hair color faded and totally changed into another person, even came out triple personality.

7. The descriptions above are all obvious similar concepts in the two games, and we will list some detailed similarities only slightly analyzed as following:

In the chapter 8 of LP, Youran comes to a party organized by hackers because of a mail. While in MM, MC invites guests coming to the party by mails and other characters also receives mails from Mint Eye in which Unknown stays. Moreover, the final party has always been Mint Eye's goal.

In LP, Youran received a mail from an “Unknown”. And MM’s story begins because MC received messages from Unknown (in prologue chatroom).

In the chapter 8 of LP, Youran has reach a bomb attract in the party, key (Zhou Qiluo) protect her. In the MM story of 707, there is a bomb in MC's apartment, 707 come to the apartment protect her. This bomb also shows in other character's story.

Zhou Qiluo and 707 loving to wear a headset. In Zhou Qiluo’s character design and card there is usually a headset around his neck, same gesture as 707 (just look similar).

II. About Cheritz had Copied Other Game

When Cheritz set up at 2016, it was just a small game company, so as the first game of this company, Dandelion -Wishes brought to you- had given its game character design to an outsourcing company. So to the incident Dandelionis similar with other game named Lamentoin game character's appearance we think, Cheritz just take limited responsibility for it. It is not a very rare situation when outsourcing company causes problem to the game, even Paper Game itself had experienced the same situation. We think, it is not fair to define Cheritz had copied other game just by the mistakes caused by outsourcing company.

Furthermore, if LPers assume Cheritz had copied just because Dandelionis similar with other game named Lamento in game character's appearance, the comparison we mentioned above can not just called coincidences.

III. Respond to some LPers' Query

1. Clarification of two game's designing timeline

LP's official weibo had post an article showed the very first design of four male game character and Youran of this game, the first draft picture of Zhou Qiluo was made by 17th, Oct 2014. And the whole design progress is secret until they released the internal test at the summer of 2017.

According Cheritz's official Tumblr, the first article mentioned about MM was written by 20th, May 2015. In addition, Cheritz has post a team diary on their Tumblr to show the design progress of MM, also made a brochure of design in the VIP package of MM.

On the other side, if LP's team are prior informed about MM, even LP officially said the progress of design has begun at 2014, but the whole progress is undisclosed until 2017, so they had a lot of time to adjust their design then avoid having similar with a game launched way before it. Even LP has launched at the end of 2017, its story is not complete until now, they should have pretty enough time to change their design.

Besides, on the game forum TapTap, LP's developer writes the game cost two year to develop, but in the article post days ago they said they begun develop since 2014, so which one is true?

2. Clarification of 'The traditional Chinese translated name of MM has copied LP'

The traditional Chinese version MM is in charged by a Taiwan prestigious publisher called SNSplus, this company runs all the localization and publishing of MM for official service in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. May because the publisher knowing about LP is popular in mainland China, so they take a temporary name similar of LP (just similar with two former Chinese characters, with the first Chinese character same), but since Cheritz always connect MMers with English and Korean, we doubt they are fully aware of this.

When this temporary name had announced on twitter, many Chinese MMers was worried about the name may cause misunderstanding since LP is very popular at that time. So they sent comments under this announcement asking for change the temporary name. Days later, Cheritz took the advice and change the traditional Chinese translated name of MM.

Using this temporary name to compare with LP's Chinese name can not conclude Cheritz of MM is coping LP.

3. Clarification of 'Chinese MMers better loving foreign games than homebred game'

For many MMers insist that LP and MM do have many similar, some LPers criticize that MMers are kind of worship things foreign (in a badly way). What is more, when we try to explain the issue of the traditional Chinese translated name of MM, they think we put Taiwan aside talking about this problem, it’s actually support Taiwan independence, taking the whole issue to political level.

The reason why we have separate the traditional Chinese version MM to the mainland China is because by the rule of app store, the store of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan stands alone from the store of mainland China. So this is a policy problem, not a political problem.

Many people would play games developed by foreigners, and many foreigners play games made by Chinese team, this is a process of cultural exchange, you should not be proud of just by playing games from any country. The standard of judging a game is not by its country, is by game-play and how careful planning by the designer.

In the very first questionnaire of LP before its launched, they have clearly asked whether you have played MM, therefore the develop team of LP is definitely knowing it. In our opinion, if LP’s development team had found the game itself has a lot similar concepts with MM, even the game was completely designed at that time, the team should change its design to avoid similar, but not launch after MM around two years late. This is the right way to respect all the players loving Love and Producer, loving Zhou Qiluo, and the only way to create their most unique 'dearest one'.

V: I just respected her privacy.

JUMIN: I can’t believe you never knew the password.

V: I’ve never even been there. I just know where it is.

V: Anyways, the apartment is in my name.

V: Rika usually worked there. There are a lot of documents in there that must not be damaged.

V: I can’t reveal the address because all the classified information about this organization is stored there, plus other sensitive materials.

JUMIN: I didn’t know the place contained sensitive material.

YOOSUNG: You don’t trust us enough to let us go, right?

JUMIN: Don’t take it personally. It’s better to be ignorant sometimes.

V: Yes, for the reason that Jumin said.

V: Anyways, I can’t tell you the address. I’m sorry.

YOOSUNG: Then how did Seven know that the address he traced is Rika’s apartment?

JAEHEE: Since he’s responsible for the organization’s classified information.

707: Yup. That’s true, but also I’m the one who developed this app.

707: Rika wanted to take care of some work through this too.

707: I went to her place to link the app with some of the documents in her computer.

YOOSUNG: Oh…

JUMIN: I see.

V: Only Luciel and I know the address.

V: I repeat, since the information must be protected, please do not attempt to find the apartment.

V: Do not ask MC about it and MC, please do not reveal the address.

MC: Luciel?

ZEN: That’s 707’s real name. ‘Luciel Choi’

JAEHEE: lol

YOOSUNG: omg Jaehee just said lol

JUMIN: I think it’s his baptismal name?

707: I’m going to go pray for a moment.

YOOSUNG: What do we do about her apartment?

YOOSUNG: Can MC stay there?

V: First…

V: No one here is going to go to Rika’s apartment, right?

V: Since the information involves everyone around us, there might be trouble if we are not careful.

JUMIN: But it is a mystery how a complete stranger could end up there.

V: It might be someone that Rika trusted.

V: It’s hard to believe myself… But we shouldn’t assume that we knew everything about Rika.

V: had a deep world of her own.

V: MC being at her apartment right now…

V: I’m not saying she wanted MC to be there… but maybe…

ZEN: You mean Rika’s party.

V: Since she didn’t leave a will.

V: According to the information Luciel provided, MC doesn’t seem dangerous.

JUMIN: I’m not sure about this to be honest…

V: Besides, she’s basically in the same boat now that she knows about this messenger app.

Wanted to join in for the light discussion on why Cheritz didn't input much mention of Mint Eye in the Secret Endings. Meta-wise, I think it's because then each Secret Ending would be so so soooo long and it would be worth a form of "mini-DLC" on its own. In addition, technically the Secret Endings are meant to be the continuation of 707's route (in a sense), so they would focus more on 707's view point (who is not Saeran) whom is on his version of a mental breakdown. /part 1

(cont.) Inside the game kind of verse, I would like to say that Saeran has been through a lot in a fairly short amount of time, in addition that he finally finds out that everything is contradicting each other. I feel it makes some form of sense that he'd be too busy on other things (not yet mentioning what the Elixir had done to his brain) to focus on a sense of belonging (I think he did by the end of it, but that's after a week or so of thinking + 707's stubbornness so he gets better) /part 2

That's a few points that I'd like to add in. Apologies for the three-parter and hope that I didn't intrude in any way :"D Hope you have a great day and can't wait for Saeran route!

Yep I do agree that perhaps there were limitations in what content they could add to the secret ends because of practical reasons, but I think they could have perhaps inserted at least some mention of Mint Eye given that Mint Eye was a huge part of his life ever since leaving the care of his mother to follow Rika. Granted, there were a lot of things going on but arguably, Mint Eye has taken such a big part of his life that it would have to be closer to the forefront of his mind rather than at the back of it, and so he must have thought about it at least in some part of the secret endings. Also, the focus is not actually supposed to be on Saeyoung in the secret ends. The secret ends feature V and Saeran respectively, and secret end 2 centers around Saeran’s thoughts and his background, towards the reconciliation of the Choi twins, all of which draw from the events that occurred in Saeyoung’s route. :)))

Character / Storyline / Whatever-you-called-it Analysis: Mystic Messenger

If only I dare to publish my (twitter) second account here, (will not happen, since I want to say things under privacy, too) you guys would’ve known my obsession over this Korean game called Mystic Messenger.

It is a female-oriented otome (dating) game. You’ll play as this Main Character (MC), so far Cheritz (the developer) has released 6 routes, which you can play depending on which character you want to choose.

So after playing each route and finishing the secret ending, here’s my thought overall.

(lol I actually already wrote a review on my 2nd account, but I’ll write a repetitive thing here lol don’t mind me).

This is a long ass post btw, if you’re not up to that, then you’re free to browse anything else. But if you do want to stick around, feel free to grab some ice tea (I’m recently into honey lemons) and some pockys.

When starting Mystic Messenger, there’s 3 options to choose; Casual Route (free), Deep Route (80 Hourglasses), Another Story (300 Hourglasses). Hourglasses is basically like coins that you can exchange to unlock features throughout the game. You can still proceed with the game without it, but you’ll definitely get more benefits with these hourglasses (e.g.; unlocking new routes like Deep Route, making phone calls, participate in chats that you missed, etc).

Now on to the analysis!

(WARNING: SPOILER ALERT)

If you’re hoping for your-typical-shoujo-storyline-i-met-a-prince-of-my-dream, well you’re wrong because Mystic Messenger is here to fuck you up and make you emotionally attached to fucking fictional characters.

I’d like to think each and every route is a different universe every time I chose a new route (believe me, you’ll have hard time restarting your day after the 11th day). But I cannot help to feel that every route is actually linked to one another and the final ending is Seven’s route. (Yes you can fight me but thats the fact because Seven’s always have this additional thing in his route and he even owns the secret ending, technically).

However, another story (aka V route) is another different universe, because the storyline is a little bit distorted than the original 5 stories (well, it is an additional story).

The reason why I wrote a Tumblr post is because I got a bunch of bullcrap I need to write after finishing V route and Secret Ending.

First of all,

What the actual fuck?

Okay, everything was all good and jolly when you start playing Casual Route. I guess they called it Casual Route because it literally give you the tiniest bit of the secret of RFA. It literally means nothing if you compare it to Deep Route, Another Story, and Secret Endings. In actual fact, even in Jumin’s route, it don’t give as much information.

On casual route, it is very fitting to the name; very casual. It just gives you all these simkung moments with your character of selection. Sure, every route all-in-all asking the MC to ‘help’ the character from their wounds.

(list is based on my recommendations on taking which route first)

Jaehee - To choose her dreams or live on social prejudice

Yoosung - Dealing with his depressions and confusion after Rika’s passing

Zen - Overcoming his insecurities and his past

Jumin - Expressing his emotions when the world seems like tangled threads

Seven - Making sure he is belonged in this world and to be a place where he can call it home

V - Letting him know that he should love and put himself first

Tbh after finishing all routes, I cannot help to think that this whole mysme universe is started as a couple quarrel. But it is a twisted and complex couple quarrel. Basically it all turned murky when — turned out both the couple did not realized that they’re in a toxic relationship.

I’m gonna talk not only about any specific route, but the universe as a whole. Mainly towards Secret Endings in which branched from Seven’s, but the inputs came from every route regardless.

Rika had an illness to begin with. She struggles with depression, anxiety, paranoia, and (paranoia induced) delusions. Now this woman (haha please note on how I address her because I put my whole feeling on it) tried to hide it (and she succeeded) from the rest of the member, except V, who’s her fiancee and the one she trusted wholeheartedly. I guess her intentions are good, because she don’t want the rest of the member to worry about her. All she ever wanted to do was to create RFA in hope she could help people with her charity parties and where people with different background and social status could mingle. But again, she’s dealing with a mental illness and I guess she needs someone to know her as a whole, which is V.

This is where everything went wrong, I guess.

Rika does not represent people with mental illness. Cheritz just need a character as an antagonist, or there won’t be any storyline, hahaha.

Don’t get me wrong. V is a loving man. His intentions are also come from a good heart. V loves Rika wholeheartedly. He loves Rika with her flaws, too.

But their actions were like a ripple in a calm water. A single drop could disturb the whole surface.

V comes from a wealthy family, alongside Jumin. He was brought up to act like one. His father brought him up so that he could continue the family business, like Jumin. However, V’s mother was a musician. In fact, his family business related a lot in art & creative industry. So he have this ‘artist blood / tendency’ within him. I think his father opposed him on being an actual artist, so instead he became a photographer. This is where he encountered Rika.

Rika, on the other hand, did not came from a good childhood memory. She was adopted. However, turned out the adoptive parents regretted adopting Rika (that’s a fucked up parents to begin with. I mean, you HAD a choice to PICK your child for God’s sake. You’re not stuck with whatever-God-gave-you on your womb but you GET to choose, either the gender nationality race whatever suits you best and you STILL regret it?). She always felt that she does not belong anywhere and don’t have any place to harbor. She always feel empty.

Now when Rika met V, it felt like a faith to both of them. Rika was the empty canvas. She never knew how it felt to be loved. V, on the other hand, does not know how to give love, as he was always brought up in prince-like manner, and his mother was not able to be there to teach him how to love. So when he encountered Rika, I guess in his artistic mind, his love was like this massive artwork, ready to be painted on Rika’s blank canvas.

Both of them thought that their love was like the sun in the sky.

Why the sun?

Well, the sun is the source of living being. No matter where you are, it will shine. Even when the clouds are there to cover it, the sun is still there, giving you all the warmth. But the thing with the sun, in my opinion, yes it is warm, but there are times where you can get burn to crisp if you stand too long below it. You can get blind if you stare too much. Why, you can even get skin cancer if you’re not well protected.

Both of them could not express their love... as a couple. One wants to accept everything and one is willing to give everything. But the thing is... everything has its own limit. Sure, it feels like they’re meant for each other, however I think it is a toxic relationship as no one in that relationship know how to say no and to stop. V being too philosophical attracted to Rika’s innocence. Back to my canvas-paint theory, it is like Rika is the blank canvas, and V is willing to paint every single space within Rika. So much it turned into obsession. So much that Rika’s actually suffocated from it. Rika’s running out of space.

Sally’s death was the trigger. Rika was in the verge of breaking down. She said it was her fault. Said nobody would love her if they know how dark she is. She is actually ashamed of her illness and struggles, and she wants people to see her as a savior instead. V, who love her so dearly, instead of stopping her, said;

“Even if you strangle my neck, blind my eyes and break my limbs... I will still love you.”

THAT IS FUCKED UP OKAY. Now, if you have a loved one that’s struggling with these conditions, you do not add fuel to the fire. Don’t encourage them to hurt people! What V did was to turn the switch in Rika. In her innocent thought (at first I could not believe Rika was this stupid, but then again, she had her condition), it is okay to be abusive, as V said, he will still love him regardless. THIS. WAS. THE. FUCKING. TRIGGER.

Rika hurt V on purpose due to him trying to stop Rika on creating this cult where she force happiness onto people, drug them so that they would not know any pain. I know V had a good intention trying to stop Rika but I cannot stop thinking that he’s the one who made Rika to had this thought. It was the seed he planted on Rika. He was expecting a beautiful flower to bloom from it, but a monster sprouted instead because of the way he tended the seed.

Due to that, Rika left V for three main reason;

V opposed her idea on creating this everlasting paradise

She thought that V did not love her anymore because she thought V is disgusted with her monster side and the last thing she wanted was for V to leave her side

She knows what she did was wrong. She might be distorted, but she is good by nature. So when she realized she injured V severly, she is actually scared of herself. What if she hurt V even more in future?

And this is where everything went from what the fuck to what in the actual motherfucking fuck?

So instead of spilling the truth, V, being a chivalrous man he is, decided to keep it as a secret. He stated that the reason he kept it as a secret because he did not wish to put Rika under a dark impression. He wants Rika to be seen in her glorious days, as a brilliant young lady which everybody love and adore.

He decided to make Rika’s departure from RFA as her passing. He made up this story that Rika decided to take her own life. Jumped out the cliff, he said, so none of her remains were to be found.

I know RFA trusted this man 100%. But there’s a reason why Yoosung always doubt him, because I will certainly do, too.

First, do you think it is fair for the rest of RFA to be treated that way? To live their life in lies? I mean, come on, she’s basically everyone’s center. If someone that was that close to me, suddenly her fiancee come to us and said she took her own life but her body was never to be found, I would use every measure to fins her (I believe Jumin was loaded enough to do so).

That aside, does V never consider the rest of RFA’s feeling in the first place? Does he think it was okay for him to lie to them? If only they did not discover the truth in Seven’s route, he will even keep it to himself. I could not help to feel that V is selfish, in a way he wants to keep Rika to herself. He is the one who Rika trust as a whole, and he’d like to keep it that way.

In Casual route, there’s no sign that Rika’s still alive. At the end of each casual route, V is always nowhere to be found. He is either not attending the party, announcing that he’s about to be blind, or just ‘let’s not discuss it now” / “I cannot tell you now”.

IMAGINE how betrayed everyone was when they found out that Rika was still alive and V decided to keep it as a secret. To make things worse, Rika even created this illegal cult. If they truly cared for Rika, I bet they would even love her and help her from her darkness. Hell, Rika was their savior in some way. I just don’t get the logic behind V keeping it from the rest.

For Zen and Jaehee, it might not be a significant lost, just a sense of disappointment. They’re not directly involved in Rika, emotion wise. Jaehee was merely Jumin’s assistant and she respected Rika. Zen was a bit closer to her, as Rika was his fan and the who ‘discovered’ Zen and help him with his career. But other than that, they did not share any emotion bond with Rika.

Yoosung though, he saw Rika as his own big sister. He saw her as his role model. He looked up to Rika a lot. So it is understandable that he was struggling after Rika’s passing, in the most unreasonable reason ever. Especially when Rika only showed her good personality. Who could accept that reason?

Sometimes, people said ignorance is a bliss and that is exactly what happened to each of their routes. They NEVER know. But that is the sad thing. They WILL never know. But if they WERE know the thing that happened behind their back, imagine how hurt they will be? Especially in Yoosung case, where he even get depressed over Rika.

Anyway, it gets even more disappointing for me for the deep route guys. If I were to talk in detail, it will take another dedicated post because it is a deep route hahaha I guess I was deeply attached to them (lol).

By know I guess everyone can grasp on how hurt Seven would feel. His brother was taken by someone that he trusted could take care of him. HIS FUCKING FAMILY. The only person in this universe that he share his blood with and his very existence is the most precious thing. Due to this stupid lover quarrel, Rika just fucking took him and drugged him so that he could work for her and made him hate his own brother.

WHAT THE FUCK. This is a one sick lady. But whats even sicker is the fact that even knowing this, V did not give Seven any information. He just stick with “I can do this myself, so that none of the member will get hurt”. ITS HIS FUCKING TWIN BROTHER FOR ALL THE GOD’S SAKE. How stupid you could be?! He is more than entitled to know anything about Saeran. Even if love my s/o to death, if he done anything as outrageous as this, I would definitely call for help. This even involved other person’s closest relative!

Another thing to point out is why can’t Seven left any note to Saeran? I know it took awhile for Rika to take Saeran out of Seven and Saeran’s mother. But afterwards, when Saeran was under Rika and V’s care, he could leave a note to him. A simple post-it will do, if he was that scared to be traced. Let Saeran know that the reason he left first is to protect him. Why can’t he do this? I mean, its not like Seven never met V, if in this sense we put Rika under bad light.

Why does V think he is entitled to keep this as a secret? I could see why Seven was in rage when he found out about the whole truth when he about to rescue MC at Rika’s apartment. His reunion with his long lost brother was suppose to be sweet, but no, he was brainwashed and hate him to the core. And even when Seven asking for the truth, V still dare to lie.

But what is even more saddening is Jumin position. Surprised? Well, I guess it is unexpected as he is not a part of Secret Endings. He is constantly suppressing his emotions too. But that is even worse.

The fact that Jumin is V’s closest friend. In his route, Jumin even told MC that the only people that he could trust was V and Rika. I get that couple only share some things among themselves, but imagine how Jumin would feel when he knows two people he trusted the most turned out hiding such big secret?

He trust V decision, always. When everybody seems to doubt V, he will be that very last person to agree with V. He will never hide anything from V, and even when V hides something from him, he will always said that “V’s always like that. I will trust his decision nevertheless”. The only thing that he didn’t tell V was probably he had feelings for Rika, too (fuck this thing. Jumin’s my man don’t you lay your hand on her Rika (lol)).

Speaking of that, Jumin was in fact treasure Rika, too. He claimed that Rika was that very few people that was able to make him open up and let him expressing his emotion.

He had feelings for Rika, but knowing that Rika never saw him that way and only love V, he suppressed his feelings and decided to just watch from far.

He even treasures Elizabeth the 3rd. Elizabeth the 3rd was so dear to him because it was from Rika, and V named her. The Jumin that we know now is head-over-heel over cat, but in his conversation with Rika on his route, he was not particularly interested in cats to begin with. Jumin’s fucking loaded, if he really likes cat, he could’ve bought the rarest breed of all and enjoy its beauty. But everything changed after Rika gave him Elizabeth the 3rd. He treasured every fragments Rika left him with. He didn’t even finish the book that Rika gave him.

So imagine, imagine it, my dear friend, how unfair his situation is. He already decided to be a bigger man and root for his best friend’s relationship. But turned out his most treasured people are keeping this huge secret. Imagine how disappointed he would feel when he knows Rika was brainwashing Saeran. Imagine how he would’ve felt when V decided to quit RFA on Seven’s route. Imagine how confused he would feel when V is always out of reach on everyone’s after ending. Imagine how painful it is for him to see Rika was beyond repair on V route, the two people he wished for happiness, turned out to be destroying each other?

Imagine how broken he would’ve felt when he attended V’s funeral at Secret End, knowing that his best friend’s own fiancee was the one who lead him to death, and the fact that he has to stay composed in this situation?

There’s a reason why I like Jumin so much. Not only his capability on stay logical (though sometimes can be interpreted as emotionless), but the fact that he never beats around the bush. He never sugar-coat his words (except during his route when he acts like a stupid love bird—no complain about this tho).

Yes, he is not perfect, even on his route he could be irrational sometimes with his obsessiveness. But knowing his upbringing and his background, its understandable he’s acting this way. But in the end he even tried to overcome it and when V came, he believed in V almost immediately. Even when MC’s life was somewhat along the line.

That is how much he trusted V and how deeply he cared for him.

V, on the other hand, was so drowned on his own ideology of protecting everyone to even notice this. Do you think its fair? Does he thinks its right for him to keep the truth from everyone, when Jumin’s always there for him?

Jumin is even willing to go extra mile for V. I guess sadly V doesn’t see Jumin in the same light.

I know this post somewhat treating V as the main villain. I swear, on V route I tried to save him like everyone else. Rika was truly a sick woman on his route. I really loathe her. As Seven said, she was beyond repair. But again, I couldn’t help to feel sick over the fact that both Rika and V are still hiding Saeran/Ray’s existence, even when Saeran blow himself, ON SEVEN’S AWARENESS.

Even under this fiasco, V never tell anything to anyone. He didn’t even tell MC as far as I know.

Ray... he was the main victim. He was tossed here and there without him able to control his own consciousness due to the drug.

I don’t want to blame V. I really want to hate Rika because Cheritz created this character for us to hate to begin with. But then again, I can’t help to think that the root of this problem is both of them. Both of them acted like they want to save people, how they don’t want to bring pain to innocent souls, but in the end, with their lies and their acting like a goody two shoes,

how many souls did they hurt?

Reuniting the RFA [Intro]

[Disclaimer: All Mystic Messenger characters belong to Cheritz. I am only a fan.]

“Mariko, we need you out there. They seriously screwed something up and you’re the best we have to offer. C&R is a powerful client that we can’t afford to disappoint. Please, I am begging you to go.”

The man on the other end of the phone was sounding desperate. and the young woman sighed with frustration. Could she not just enjoy dinner in peace? “I know, I know. But I just got back from the US. My schedule is full. Why can’t you send in your assistant?” Mariko looked around her dinning room. Her home was a humble one, just the perfect size for her and her special little one. Speaking of the little one, she glanced at the young girl sitting across from her. The girl was looking at her green beans like they were three headed aliens. Mariko held back her laugh. “Excuse me, sweetie. I’ll be in my office for just a minute.” She slid her chair back and made her way to her personal office. “Let’s take a look at my calendar...and just as I thought, I am booked.” Mariko sat in the computer chair, spinning back and forth lazily. Talking with her boss was always a ride.

“I know, we’ll have someone in the office take it over until you get back. This is way more important!” Her boss grumpily replied. He was a man in his late 20s and damn good at his job. If Mariko hadn’t been in the company from the start and his best programmer, he would have fired her for her damn attitude a long time ago. Secretly, he appreciated her distinct personality. But he would rather get run over by a bus then tell her that. “I know it’s really short notice, but you need to leave first thing in the morning. The presentation to the Chairman is tomorrow at noon. If you get there early, you’ll be able to fix it before we have to postpone everything.”

Mariko almost had to pick her jaw up off the desk. “Tomorrow?! That’s ridiculous! I can’t just pick up an leave whenever! You are seriously going to make me go bald.” She grumbled. The pen she was holding was being smacked off the surface of her desk loudly. Both of her monitors were covered in various work notes and programs. “Can’t I just fix it from here? Please?” The man sighed loudly. He was just as exhausted as she was.

“No. There are too many files to send over in one night. It’s easier to just travel there early tomorrow morning. I’ve already taken care of travel. I can also book a hotel once you get there too. I know I’m asking a lot, but I promise I’ll get that vacation for you effective at the end of the two weeks.” Mariko rubbed her forehead with her free hand. A massive headache was coming on. She ran a hand through her long dark hair. Vacation sounded really nice, and she had been wanting to take a certain little girl somewhere for her birthday in two weeks. Mariko exhaled. It looked as if she had no real choice.

“Okay, fine, whatever. You better get that vacation approved or I swear on my mother I will-”

“Yeah yeah. Call me when you get there so I can book the nearest hotel to the other office. Or if you find other arrangements.” Click. Mariko put her phone down on the desk and put her head down. She just wanted to scream. Before she could, however, a soft knock at the door made her turn. The door squeaked open with the little girl standing on the other side. Mariko smiled gently at her, motioning for her to come in. Slowly, the girl walked over and looked at Mariko with questioning eyes. How would Mariko tell the poor girl?

“Mommy...? What’s going on?”

“Kaguya....Mommy has to leave for work again. It’ll only be for two weeks this time, but it’s really important that I go. I promise to make it up to you.” Kaguya’s face fell, her eyes falling to the floor. Mariko easily picked her up and gave her a huge hug. “Why don’t you go get ready for bed, sweetie? I’ll read your favourite story!” Kaguya’s face lit up at the sound of the story, and with a laugh she ran off. Mariko waved at her and turned back around. Begrudgingly, she picked up her phone and dialed a number all too familiar.

“Mother, it’s me. I need a huge favor...”

The early morning train could not go any slower.

Mariko hated taking the train. It was always dead silent and crowded. She was dead tired after scrambling around to get Kaguya around and packed. The woman blankly stared at her phone, looking though pictures. Some were years old, like when Kaguya was first born. But there was one photo from her high school years that seemed to sneak by her backup. She was at a party in the photo, smiling and kissing the cheek of her best friend from childhood. In her memory, she recalled it being a feat since he was so much taller than her. He looked surprised since she had pulled his ponytail to bring him down to her height. ‘Hyun. I wonder how you’re doing now...’ Shaking her head, Mariko looked out the window. She was almost to the big city. Her phone displayed the god awful time of 6:00. At least the app she had started to download was almost done...

The train slowly stopped at the station she was supposed to get off. As she exited the train, the app automatically opened. It looked like a chat room app, which wasn’t what Mariko thought it was. But she decided to check it out anyways. A username was required. Without thinking much of it, she simply put in “MC” and touched the next button. The screen was glitched for a second before putting her through to a person by the username “Unknown”. She decided to play along despite the blatant technical issues. She had some time before she had to meet with her coworkers.

Unknown: Hello? MC: Who is this? Unknown: I’m just someone who found this phone. It only had an address and this app.. MC: Then just turn it in to the police...? I’m not sure I can help you. Unknown: I’m studying abroad, so I don’t think turning it in will help. This is going to sound crazy, but would you go to this address and let the person know I have their phone? MC: Are you insane? I’m a complete stranger. Please just turn it in to the police. Unknown: I promise it won’t be scary! If someone is really mean, just show them my messages. Please? Mariko stared at her phone. What the hell was this guy thinking? She looked around, thinking that someone was just trying to prank her. Looking at the time, she had quite a bit of time to kill. Shaking her head at herself, she typed a response. MC: Fine. But if it’s super sketchy, I’m splitting right there. Unknown: Thank you!! Here’s the address... It wasn’t that far from her. It would only take her 5 minutes. She felt like an idiot, but she found that her feet were taking her anyways. This was shaping up to be interesting, and she hadn’t even had breakfast yet.

- Mariko was in front of the door, confused. A key lock? No one had answered her various knocks. Her phone vibrated in her pocket. Unknown: Is there a key lock on the door? MC: Uh...yeah, actually. I don’t wanna know how you know that, I think I’m just gonna go. Unknown: WAIT! Unknown: I’ll give you the passcode. I really need to know if the person inside is okay... MC: What the hell, dude? I can’t just enter a stranger’s house. You’re freakin’ nuts. Unknown: Please? I promise it will be fine. Here’s the code. Mariko couldn’t believe she was about to do this. She cussed under her breath as she punched in the code. The door opened and Mariko stepped inside. “Hello?” she called. Of course no one answered her. She realized she had been phished. She was about to turn and walk out, but her phone once again vibrated. Unknown: Good luck in the RFA... The screen glitched back out and redirected her to another chatroom. 5 people besides herself were there, chatting about various things. Jaehee Kang, Yoosung, 707, Jumin Han, and ZEN. Mariko sighed. She couldn’t stand how she had been so easily tricked. She was about to close and uninstall the messenger before some of them had started to freak out about an intruder. A hacker. Yoosung: AN INTRUDER?! WHO IS IT. 707: NO WAY! I had everything covered, I swear! MC: Er....hello? ZEN: ! Yoosung: It TALKED! SEVEN DO SOMETHING. MC: I am not an it, thank you. What the hell is this? It’s too early for this crap. Jumin Han: Feisty attitude for people you just met. Jaehee Kang: Seven, please do something. 707: I’m working as fast as I can! 707:...Oh. This IP can’t be right... 707: It says that whoever MC is is currently in Rika’s apartment. Who the hell is Rika? Mariko was seriously annoyed. They talked amongst themselves about if she was harmful or not. If she should reveal her identity. Mariko wouldn’t have even bothered if it weren’t for Zen’s next response. 707: I’m checking her background now. 707: she’s cute lol ZEN: It’s a girl? 707: lol ya ZEN: If that’s the case, then here. ZEN had sent a photo of himself. Mariko’s eyes widened with surprise. It was a face she knew all too well. Hyun Ryu. She’d know him even if that iconic hair of his was gone. All the memories she had with him came back in an instant. The chat was moving too fast for her to realize exactly what was going on. Someone by the name of V was there. Should she tell ZEN who she was? Would he even believe her? She left without a trace. He would probably hate her. She decided it best not to tell him. V: I’m here. 707: What do we do about MC? MC: What do you mean? I have no idea what’s going on. I was phished into finding the owner of a phone. Jumin Han: Don’t listen to strangers. Didn’t your mother teach you manners? Jaehee Kang: Regardless, she has the messenger. She’s in Rika’s apartment. I am ready to call the police. MC: The last thing I need is to be arrested. Look, I’m in the city for business. I apologize for walking in on....whatever this is. Yoosung: This is the RFA. It’s a...charity group founded by a very kind and caring person. Jaehee Kang: Yoosung, don’t reveal that information. V: Seven has determined that she’s safe for the most part. I think we should give her the option to join. Yoosung: You don’t think...? V: I think we can host the party again. Rika must have sent her there. ZEN: Are you serious? 707: well if she doesn’t join she’s going to be arrested for trespassing lol MC: ... V: MC, I know this must be difficult for you to process, but RFA is honestly a good organization. We raise funds for those in need. V: Jumin. Jumin Han: ? V: I suddenly have to leave. Take care of this for me. V has left the chatroom. Jumin Han: As V was saying, RFA is a charity group. We used to hold parties to help raise funds. But... Yoosung: Rika used to handle the guests. But she is no longer here...so we haven’t been able to hold any parties. ZEN: They were really fun and helped so many people. Jumin Han: ...I will not force you to join, but you will never regret it. It may be some work, but with the right luck, I believe you’d be able to succeed. Jumin Han: To wrap everything up, I’ll ask you a simple question. Jumin Han: Will you join the RFA? MC:....I don’t think I have a choice. So reading back...I need to help organize guests. Okay, cool. As long as I can still do my day job, I should be able to help, MC: I’m only in the city for about two weeks, however. 707: You can stay at Rika’s as long as you don’t touch any of the documents there. I designed the computer program for Rika to be able to handle everything without them, so use that. ZEN: We have a cute girl as a member!! Yoosung: New member!! Glad to have you aboard, MC! Jumin Han: I think I need to get ready for work. Assistant Kang. Jaehee Kang: Yes, Mr. Han? Jumin Han: Please answer all of MC’s questions if she has any. I need to prepare for a meeting. Excuse me. Jumin Han has left the chatroom. Jaehee Kang: I think everyone has other obligations....MC, nice meeting you. I am always available to answer questions. MC: Thanks....I suppose. This is weird. Jaehee Kang has left the chatroom. ZEN: I need to go to rehearsal. Catch you later MC *wink* ZEN has left the chatroom. MC: I need to get to work. Thank you guys for not roasting me. Later. MC has left the chatroom. Mariko finally looked up from her phone. “Today is going to be a long day...” She sighed. She glanced around the one bedroom apartment. It seemed it would be her home for the next two weeks. The time was 6:28. She needed to leave now or she would never be able to present to the Chairman at noon. Mariko placed her luggage on the bed. She adjusted her coat and stood up from the chair she had been sitting in. Memorizing the code to the lock, Mariko headed back out. What in the world did she just get herself into?
