"I think I have some idea." the bright red spear was somewhat of a giveaway and Paine eyed it warily. the fact that it was sharp meant that it was ornamental or well used, and Paine guessed the latter. very few would bother to carry around an ornamental spear of that size. it'd be hanging on the wall, behind glass, if the owner truly didn't want it to get damaged, let alone pointing it directly at someone's face.

even without the taunt, Paine was curious as to what more the woman could offer. Paine got the impression that there was more than met the eye with this one. what else could there be, she wondered. when the woman made no indication of moving the weapon away from Paine's neck, a gloved hand moved upwards to push at a blunter edge. she hoped the woman didn't think of her as a threat any longer. and if she did, Paine would have to prove otherwise.

"If we run into fiend any time soon, perhaps you can show me what you're capable of. Maybe without the spear pointed in my direction."

with that, Paine pushed the spear just enough away from her to be able to move away from it. red eyes followed it to ensure that it was well away from anywhere that could maim her too badly.

¿Friends?

the sound of alejandro's laugh rang in Rudy's ears. he glanced over at him every once in a while. normaly, he would love hearing Alejandro's laugh

but tonight, as he stood in the bar watching his best friend flirt with a woman like he would usually do, he couldn't help but feel jealous.

Rudy clenched his jaw and looked to the side as he saw Ale lean into the girl and whisper into her ear. he didn't know why he even agreed to this. Rudy doesn't even like drinking much, but Alejandro asked, and Rudy didn't have the heart to say no.

he lets out a frustrated sigh. He didn't want to be there anymore. He took one last look at Alejandro before putting his glass down and walking out of the bar and into the cold november street.

He zipped up his sweater as he walked down the street, his foot steps being the only thing that was heard with the occasionally barking dog and car passing down the street.

Alejandro noticed right away that rudy was gone. He didn't even excuse himself as he scanned around the bar looking for his friend. As soon as he didn't find him, he left the just in time to see Rudy walking around the corner of the building.

"Rodolfo! esprea!"

Alejandro quickly ran over, throwing his arm over rudys shoulder

"adonde vas?"

"Back"

"we just arrived?"

"i.. dont feel good. "

"Don't bullshit me, rudy."

Alejandro let go of Rudy walking beside him

"im not. you can go back. ni se por que me seguiste.."

"You're my friend, rudy. i got worried someone kidnapped you. "

Alejandro grinned, giving rudy a little nudge on his side

"Haha, que chistosito."

Rudy rolled his eyes

"You love it, dont lie to yourself."

there a moment of silence where they both just walked. Alejandro's  hand would accidenally brush against rudy from time to time

"tienes frío?"

"No. im fine. "

rudy would mutter. he didn't understand why Ale would just leave the bar like that. he had a girl, and it was obvious that she would go home with Alejandro

"Your hands are freezing."

Alejandro said as he grabbed ahold of rudys hand. Rudy felt his heart flutter. It wasn't unual for this to happen. he knew Ale meant nothing by it. he pulled his hand away.

"Did you end up getting that girls number?"

rudy asked as he changed the topic

"Nah, im looking for more than just a hookup. were not getting any younger here Rodolfo"

Alejandro looked around the street for a second before his eyes settled on Rudys face again

"Are you sure you're good? you just kind of just walked out of the bar in a hurry. "

" Yeah, im sure."

"Really? I know that look too well. Rudy dont lie to me. you know you can't. "

again, Alejandro nudged Rudy side

rudy didn't want to lie to him, but he needed to he didn't want to ruin the years of friendship they had.

"What look? Im not lying."

"Mm. if i didn't know better..."

Alejandro stopped walking, which caused rudy to stop walking and turn to look at him

"que?"

"No....estas celoso?" alejandros eyes narrowed slightly

Rudy felt his stomach  twist into a knot

"Huh? th thats a funny joke" 

rudy turned to continue walking. he was being way too obvious now, and it was going to ruin the friendship.

"Rodolfo. tell me the truth here, man."

"i am telling truth here, Alejandro,"

rudy was getting a little too defensive

"Just tell me. i wouldn't get mad. "

but you wouldn't feel the same.

"Why would i be jealous?"

"No te hagas el tonto."

alejandro stepped closer to his friend

"im not."

"Yes, you are."

"Do you really think i like you?"

"i know you do"

Rudy froze. he knew? no, he didn't, right

"Listen...i like you too... but i dont know if i like you the way you like me."

rudy felt like he had been punched in the gut. he didn't respond right away. he felt sick.

alejandro rudded his forehead. he felt bad for saying that, and he felt bad that he didn't feel the same

"Text me when you get back."

he turned and walked back to the bar, leaving rudy alone with his thoughts

It was awakard for a while. Alejandro would avoid Rudy, and he would do the same.

rudy couldn't help but bame himself. he was the one with the stupid crush on his best friend. he was the one who ruined what they had.

"we need to talk"

"This better be important"

"it is"

rudy rolled his eyes.

" dont give me that."

"Hurry up and talk."

alejandro tried to remain calm

"dont be like that. this...i.."

the words got stuck in alejandro's mouth. he felt like he was lost for words for a second.

"Just let me do this.."

"Do wh-"

rudy let out a small gasp. his eyes went wide as he pushed Alejandro away

"What are you doing!?"

"kissing you."

Rudy eyebrows furrowed. He could feel his blood rush to his cheeks. both from being embarrassed and mad.

"Rodolfo, im sorry. i just..im confused okay"

Alejandro let out a sigh

"You're my best friend.....you're a guy."

he scratched his head as he thought about how to form his next word

"si...te quiero mucho. lo sabes verdad?" he paused

" and i think i mean it more than just friends."

Rudy's eyes go wide once again. it was like time stood still, and it was just the two of them.

"i know this is too much right now." alejandro took a deep breath. his voice slightly shaking now

"But Rodolfo just give me a chance. just one date, and we can see where that leads us. "

He gave rudy a small smile, but that smile could still light up the whole room in rudys eyes. A short silence fell between the two men as Rudy contemplated if he should say yes. this could ruin their friendship if it didn't work out, but it would most likely. it was a risk  but it was a risk both men would take together.

A/n: I swear I'm still working on that Gaz one. But honestly, I have not gotten his personality down 🧍🏽
