You hated it when reporters asked who wore the pants in your relationship, the outdated implication that one partner should have the upper hand over the other. The simple truth was that you two struck the perfect balance. She remained levelheaded at times when you’d go into what you playfully coined "full Latino mode." She had a tendency to overthink, and you’d sat by her side on countless nights, hand in hand, whispering, "Everything will fall into place, mi querida. You’ll see." She was all of the best feelings in the world in human form: clean sheets on a freshly made bed, the first bite into a decadent burger, champagne showers after a sensational drive.

The sun cast a gentle, orange glow on her face as you rubbed your eyes, stepping into the living room. She had fallen asleep on your off-white couch, still in her scrubs after a long night shift. Her laptop lay open on the marble coffee table, a Pinterest board of wedding paraphernalia on full display. The ever-growing F1 calendar had kept you on the go, leaving your fiancée to check off the majority of your pre-wedding to-do list by herself. You couldn’t put your finger on just why you were tearing up, a surge of emotions taking over as you scrolled through the photos. You reached the bottom of the page when you stumbled upon a Polaroid of her in a white dress.

Months ago, you’d overheard her and Ana talk about fabrics as they baked banana bread. "Chiffon? No. Lace? No. Ay, tulle!" You exclaimed, so caught up you hadn’t even noticed her stirring awake. You quietly closed her laptop shut.

"Is this for your next racing suit? I’d say lace is a bit scandalous but, hey, give the people what they want," she giggled as she slowly got up. The espresso machine, a Christmas gift from her, hummed to life. She was making you an espresso out of habit, strong just the way you preferred. You breathed a sigh of relief; grateful her mind had been hazy enough to brush off that you’d been listing off wedding dress fabrics mere minutes ago.

"What did I do to deserve you?" You wrapped your hands around her waist and kissed the nape of her neck. A year from now, she’d be walking down the aisle in that very dress. A year from now, she would be yours for all eternity.

July 2023

The season had been far from kind to you and your teammate Charles. Thankfully, Y/N had taken some time off work leading up to the wedding, providing some much-needed relief from the relentless cycle of "flight, race, simulator, repeat." The pressure and pent-up frustration could have easily consumed you by now if it weren’t for the thought of her eagerly waiting at each checkered flag. Regardless of whether you ended the race with 25 points or none, she was the only person you wanted to see.

You had never been one to voluntarily go on record about the love you two shared. It felt too sacrosanct, too precious. It, nonetheless, was no surprise when press from worldwide gathered in Avila, eager to catch a glimpse of you and Y/N’s big day. Both your sisters had gotten married in this town and, if there was one thing about the Sainz family, it was that they were big on tradition.

This is why you weren’t all too surprised when your parents revealed that you and Y/N would be spending your wedding eve apart. The rehearsal dinner had gone relatively smoothly, despite a few hiccups along the way. Rupert’s daughter Harlow Reyes had refused to hand over the rings, claiming them as her own. Lando attempted to deliver a heartfelt speech but ended up cry laughing in the way only he would, leaving him unable to finish. Yet, in the end, you were just happy to have everyone you loved under one roof.

"Care to join me?" Y/N motioned toward the vineyard, an effortless smile adorning her face. The night had fallen, but the gentle glow of fairy lights illuminated her silhouette.

"By this time tomorrow, we’ll be husband and wife," she remarked. He could see the glint in her eye as she breathed in the thick summer air. She was a sight to behold in her white vest and tailored pants. In that moment, you thought to yourself, "I’m the luckiest man alive," as you made your way towards her.

You wanted to thank her for everything. For answering the phone at 3 AM when jet lag and stress left you gasping for air on a bathroom floor oceans away. For being the beautiful face you could steal glances at as you sat behind the wheel during spontaneous road trips. For making you feel like you were worthy of being loved. For being your constant.

Instead, you simply said, "Every day, starting tomorrow, will be the best day of my life because I get to spend it by your side. You have all my heart, Y/N. Every single piece." You proceeded to squeeze her hand three times, your secret signal for "I love you" because, boy, did you mean it.

There is a crisis in Gaza. Innocent civilians are being murdered. People die from treatable causes. Hospitals are bombed. Infrastructure destroyed. Help is denied access to the region. A generation of Palestinians traumatised if they’re lucky enough to survive.

Many organisations are calling for ceasefire, Doctors without Borders among them.

When Russia invaded Ukraine they were excluded the following day, 25 February 2022. You showed them that their behaviour is unacceptable.

When Belarus showed their disregard for Freedom of Speech they were excluded. You showed them that their behaviour is unacceptable.

Bold and political moves. Bold and political, just like peace. Peace which is the foundation which we created Eurovision Song Contest.

Now I am asking you to do it again. You need to show Israel that their behaviour is unacceptable. Exclude Israel.

Survivors of the Holocaust is condemning Israel’s behaviour, some even comparing it to their personal experience of the holocaust (http://www.ijan.org/projects-campaigns/nafa/survivors-and-descendants-letter/).

There is so much to Love about Eurovision. Costumes. Performances. The voices. The community. My favourite part is the cultural exchange. Italy showing us their hand movements and Iceland singing in their native. Sadly, if you still support Israel in this I can’t with good conscience watch Eurovision Song Contest this year.

I have to admit, I was one of those that never voted for “Mile High,” but boy, oh, boy, did I miss the mark! This might be my favorite Anthony and that’s saying a lot after “Bruises” and “If the shoe fits…” I just love this compulsive, overthinking with a side of self doubt Anthony. He’s SO endearing💞I can relate to him. And, isn’t this what we’re all after, someone like Kate (whether via friendship, love or both)to come along and love us not in spite of, but because of our quirks & insecurities! The imperfections that make us perfect for those special somebody’s❣️

I’m so glad it’s winning you over!

It wasn’t a super popular idea, I know that, but I think there’s definitely something very human about this Kate and Anthony. Kate’s entire life’s been turned upside down after leaving the RAF and she’s just trying to find her feet and Anthony’s struggling with the fact that after the accident where his father died, he can’t control everything.

They’re both exactly what the other needs. Kate’s like a fucking hurricane, upsetting the delicate balance of Anthony’s entire life. She never puts her things away. She always leaves her coffee mug on the left side of the bed (That he tries not to think of as her side). Her bras are always just thrown off and she never neatly hangs up her pyjamas. It’s infuriating. And yet, it’s the darndest thing. When he pinches the bridge of her nose as he looks at her suitcase, felt open, shoes and stockings and toiletries strewn all over the floor she has the neatest way of getting him not to care about it at all. Or barely.

Anthony felt his teeth clench as he got out of bed, trying to calm himself as he tripped over one of her shoes. It was too early in the defined era of their relationship for this. He was sure.

“Kate, babe?” He swallowed as his girlfriend let out a groan from the bed, still face down under the blanket, her curls strewn over the pillow. He took that as a sign to move forward. “I’m a little curious about something?”

Kate rolled over, sitting up, a slow smile making it’s way onto her face. “Yes, I do have a tiny history of gymnastics. That’s why I’m so flexible.”

Anthony flushed a he tugged his underwear on, unfolding them neatly from his own case with a flourish. “I just wondered if you had any allergies.”

Kate shook her head, wiggling her eyebrows at him. “You’re cute when you blush but My my anthony, what do you want to do to me next?”

Anthony sighed, putting his hands on his hips. “Excellent. So you’re not allergic to picking up your clothes?! I mean, Jesus! You were in the military.”

Kate laughed, the delighted sound of it making his spine shiver as she tugged him back down to the bed. She threaded her fingers through his hair and pressed his face to her bare skin, holding him there. “Do you accept my apology, Anthony? Or do I need to get down on my knees?”

Anthony breathed deeply against her skin, the stress seeping out of his body. “I mean, I wouldn’t say no to the second thing but I do feel a lot better.”

Kate checked the watch she’d left on the bloody floor instead of the bedside table like a reasonable person. “Well lucky for you I have fifteen minutes before I absolutely need to get dressed. Pants off, Ant.”

And on the other hand, Anthony manages to infuse enough order into Kate’s life that it doesn’t completely implode.

“Hold on just a fucking second.” Sophie gasped as Kate walked through the door of the bar exactly when they’d agreed to meet.

Edwina reached out, snatching Kate’s wrist up and staring at the Breitling watch that had once been their father’s. “Kate, Holy fuck, do you know what time it is?!”

Kate rolled her eyes but bowed as she accepted their mocking round of applause. “Anthony keeps our calendar now. And he even scheduled in 25 minutes of oral sex before I left.”

“Gross.”

“You’re fucking disgusting.”

“Your boos fuel me.” Kate smirked, snatching Edwina’s Margherita up, “He might be tightly wound but I love the fuck out of that man.”

An incomplete list of Trans and gender nonconforming people murdered for existing in the 2020s

Here is the complete list of Trans people murdered in 2023, compiled by Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide (TvT).

2020 – Özge Bilir, aged 25, was a Dutch trans woman of Turkish descent living in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht. She was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend.

2020 – Alexa Luciano Ruiz was fatally shot in Puerto Rico on 24 February, after an incident in a local restroom. Ms. Luciano was killed while the assailant men laughed.

2020 – Michelle Michellyn Ramos Vargas, a 33-year-old trans woman, was found dead on an isolated road after being shot multiple times on 30 September in San Germán, Puerto Rico. She worked as a bartender and was studying to become a nurse.

2020 – Selena Reyes-Hernandez, 37, was fatally shot in Chicago, Illinois, on 31 May by a man she went home with, after telling him that she was transgender.

2020 – Brayla Stone, 17, was murdered in Arkansas in June 2020 by a man seeking to conceal his sexual relationship with her. The killer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

2020 – Valera, a 46-year-old man, a janitor, was raped and killed on 10 February in Chelyabinsk, Russia, by his dorm roommates after they learned he was a transgender man.

2021 – Ebeng Mayor, a trans man from Batasan Hills, Philippines, was found raped, mutilated, and killed on 20 May 2021, after being missing for three days.

2022 – Briza Garces Florez, a 40-year-old Colombian trans sex worker from the Netherlands, was stabbed to death by her 32-year-old boyfriend.

2022 – Doski Azad, a 23-year-old Kurdish transgender woman, was murdered by her brother for being transgender.

2022 – Ariyanna Mitchell, a 17-year-old Black trans girl from Virginia, was shot and killed by 19-year-old Jimmy LeShawn Williams with an assault rifle, after he asked her if she was transgender, and she replied, "yes".

2022 - Cherry Bush, a homeless 48-year-old trans woman, was shot to death in Los Angeles.

2023 - Brianna Ghey was stabbed to death in Culcheth Linear Park on 11 February 2023.

2024 - Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old non-binary American student died one day after being assaulted in the girls' restroom.

Their friends and mother say that they experienced bullying for more than a year, because of their gender identity, before the assault. The bullying got progressively worse after a bill was passed in Oklahoma to prohibit the use of non-binary gender markers on birth certificates. Public school students are legally required to use restrooms only according to the gender on their birth certificate.

Nex was assaulted in the restroom by three girls and beaten unconscious. Sue Benedict, Nex's mother, was called to school and she found Nex with bruises on their face and scratches on the back of their head. She was informed that they had been suspended for two weeks. Sue took them to a nearby hospital and called the Oklahoma police department.

Nex told the officer how they had heard the girls making comments about their group and how they had poured water on the girls which then led to the altercation. They then said that had been attacked and had blacked out on the floor. The officer told Sue that this could be considered "mutual" and if they were to press charges, Nex would be open to those same charges. She declined at the time. Nex were later discharged and reportedly went to bed with a sore head.

The following day, on February 8, as they were preparing to travel with their mother for an appointment, Nex collapsed in the family's living room. Sue Benedict called 911, saying that Nex’s eyes had rolled back and they were struggling to breathe. Nex had stopped breathing by the time EMTs arrived. Since your relationship with Austin became public a month ago, you'd recieved a very mixed review. Previous to it being public knowledge that you were dating him, you thought his fans would be happy for him but you weren't naive to the fact a lot of people would have things to say, negative things, your age gap being one of them.

Austin had been known to date women a few years younger than him, and when you met him at a mutual friends party, the idea of him being 5 years older than you did make you question the situation. You were 25, Austin was 30 and although you liked to think of yourself as independent, you had only ever dated guys your own age.

However being with Austin never made you feel as though there was an age difference, you were still old enough to be seen as a mature woman so what did it matter? Well according to a million instagram account, it mattered a lot.

why is Austin with another girl who was probably in diapers when he started filming for Elvis?!

The comments went on and on, making you feel physically sick that people could be so rude to someone they'd never met. You'd mentioned it to Austin before, after the first comment you saw you spoke to him about it and he simply explained that people would be jealous but if neither of you saw an issue with it then why does it matter?

You agreed, you loved Austin, but you'd never been in the public eye before and so when you start posting pictures on instagram and people are commenting horrific things, Austin suggests you turn your comments off, or only allow certain people to comment on your things.

But that doesn't stop people sharing photos of you walking around with Austin, or on your own, and ridiculing everything you do.

'Baby I'm home' Austin's voice calls through your small appartment, you didn't live together, but you'd given him a key to your place as it was closer to a lot of the meetings and sets he was currently going back and forth to.

'In the kitchen' you called out, placing your phone down on the side and turning to pull the meal you'd cooked out of the oven.

'mm something smells good' his voice was low as he set his phone and keys on the kitchen island, pressing a kiss to your cheek before moving to the fridge to get a drink.

'it's not much' you shrugged, you both moved around each other to get to what you needed.

'when was this taken?' Austin's looking at your phone which you'd left unlocked on a forum dedicated to posting hate about you.

'Oh not sure just came across it' you went to snatch the phone from the side but Austin had already picked it up and was scrolling.

'You really lookin' at all this shit? What have I told you? Why does it matter what everyone else thinks about OUR relationship?' his eyebrows are slightly raised as he looks at you for an answer.

'I just-'

'No Y/N, you're gunna make yourself sick looking at this crap all the time'

You both left the conversation there, neither one of you wanting to argue over it so you both sat and ate your food in front of the TV. When you were both done you'd set your plates on the coffee table and were on either ends of the couch. Austin was watching whatever was on the screen whilst you were texting your friend.

girl, have you seen this?! why can't people leave you both alone!'

You clicked on the link she'd sent you and it led to an article, the title was something about Austin dating a younger woman but the picture made a lump form in your throat. The picture was a terrible angle of you and Austin looked moody, the caption below it saying 'trouble in paradise'. You weren't sure why you were crying but the tears began to fall and you suddenly let out a sob, catching Austin's attention.

'Y/N? What's happened?' you shake your head and lock your phone, facing towards the TV in an attempt to move on

'Hey, talk to me' Austin was concerned, but when you informed him your upset was due to another article, he switched.

'How many god damn times are we gunna have this arguement? Are you so insecure in this relationship?' he was shouting now and you looked at him in annoyance.

'Yes Austin! Yes I am insecure, when everyone is telling me I'm too young to be dating you, too ugly, not good enough. Yes, it makes me feel like crap'

'What the hell do you want me to do about it?!' you're both yelling now, the moment getting heated.

'I don't know!' you scream at him, your body retracts into the couch as you sob and wipe your tears.

'Baby' Austin's voice is calmer now, he moves to sit beside you and pulls you into his chest.

'I'm sorry, this is just all so much so quick, I'm not used to it yet' your voice cracked and Austin's heart broke, he held you tight and kissed your head.

'I'm sorry baby, I should have been more understanding, why don't we leave our phones for tonight and just relax?'

'Not gunna make them go away'

Austin sighs at this, knowing you're right but having no idea how to handle the situation. Whilst you're taking a shower that evening he's posting a picture of you from the set of Elvis, it was before people knew about either of you, you were sitting in his chair in hair and makeup grinning up at him as he told a cheesy joke that got you smiling, it was also his lock screen. He captions the picture;
