WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, SONG DAEHYUN !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-two, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +4, durability +7, agility +4, dexterity +4, intelligence +6. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
this is a story where a boy eats himself and never spits the flesh out. shrapnel bones and papier-mâché skin against your palate: hemorrhage painting your insides with the color of unrest, carving a private death in the confines of your own ribcage.
the corpses of your sanity taste like copper in your lonely mouth.
licks your lips clean from the residue of your nightmares—                                                           sanity never comes away in a bang.
you partake in the game played between mortals made serpents. your unholy intents, their forked tongues. it’s an all-night dance. the music is an overture of reprised elegies. hands on hips, hands on shoulder blades, hands on throats.
you come out alive.                            but not intact. never intact.
turn the clockwork around, however, and clasp the zeroes between your teeth.
            o.
your body is a husk, containing the hollow echo of your scream.
             i.
she is the baby’s breath in his summer, counting filaments of the sky through the rim of her sun-kissed dress. when she threads her fingers between his, heat. pooled at the stomach, rusting on his cheeks. some of those afternoons smell like forgotten nightmares, sunk in the collarbones of his daydreams. some of those evenings haze his thoughts in the stained glass of emotions, cracking through his visions. he brings her home and locks his monsters in their caskets.
how the nights end: arched spines, tiptoeing whispers. she washes his mouth with her wine. he is afraid of diluting her insides with acid.
she maps poetries into his skin and he traces the constellation of her teeth. she is made of soft carnage and he, the victim. he doesn’t mind the casualty, cutting his ribcage to let her fingers curl around his heart. she pulses red and he breathes in her dust.
knees to the floor, mouth colored with wishes. there is something different about the way her tongue wraps around the simple word.
darkness descends. you consume her.
             ii.
maybe more than you should have.
she holds the small of your fingers. a smile splinters the pale of her lips. he isn’t smiling. he reads between the lines, catching implications between his trembling teeth. she holds the small of your fingers. he caresses the brittle of her skin.
the silence echoes. her tongue wraps around three syllables, tasting more than a whisper. the silence blossoms and suffocates the room. except for the static noises, always the static noises. it’s a uniform sound that punctures his ears they bleed shards.
you make her a martyr, and him, a fallen soldier.
             iii.
he fills you with his ruins.
her residue. his empty daydreams. somehow the color of the summer sky resembles blood more than sorrow. he keeps bleeding; there’s no scar tissue, just open wounds. he decorates the jutting bones of his knuckles with ire. catharsis comes in the beauty of bruised roses. sometimes when he laughs, you think he’s angry.
he lathers his mouth with her ashes.
you have her eyes. sometimes he looks into them, looking past you. he stares at them for the longest time.
             iv.
he says you learned fast, breaking sentences into slivers, smearing fingertips with ink. what you failed to learn: your shadows sometimes flicker.
you fear darkness but it fears you more.
the black is serrated, teeth razor sharp against your jugular. your moments between sleep are painted with ragged breaths and unspoken pleas. there is something moving in the dark.
he believes it’s her, keeping you company.
monsters don’t live in the absence of lights, he says. they live in your bones, gnawing at your sinews. you were born with them inside you.
            v.
what you were born with besides the monstrosity: demise, spelled another way.
you were architected to carry an empire in you.
             vi.
he slips bloodshed into your lullabies.
bruises embody his detonations. he looks tired, but alive for once. you don’t speak when his knuckles rupture the fragility in the dying war. you don’t move when his weary limbs pretend that they aren’t weighted by the lingering ghosts.
it’s a cyclical catastrophe, your feigned innocence. how the nights end: you, collecting his pieces and trying to reassemble his bones.
but they have been too dislocated.
yet you talk to him, talk talk talk until your mouth blooms poppies, trying to keep him alive.
             vii.
there is a pool of moonburst in your head, carving craters and dents to soak them in liquid destructions.
there was a part of you littered with everything soft. you’d like to think of these: bird-bones, tender skin. think of gentleness. think of baby’s breath.
there was a part of you littered with everything soft. what’s left: splinters. these days fill themselves to the neck with digging your nails into your skin. you are a cathedral of burning, tendrils of black billowing from your crevasses. you are a pair of tangled feet on the brim of apocalypse, waiting for darkness to swallow you whole.
when it does, it never spits you out.
             viii.
you don’t know which to sacrifice: your mind, or your body.
                                                      ( or both. )
             ix.
how does it feel, being a stranger to your own body? you imagine that your fingers aren’t yours, standing under the shower for hours hoping to shed your skin off your flesh. the sight of the red and blue can’t be more fascinating.
                                                                     a dissected mind.
you breathe in decay until your lungs shiver. you wear the rust until your knuckles turn gaunt.
            x.
they saw: how your shadows flicker. they saw: how your darkness enshrouds.
somebody tells you to run, run, run. from yourself.
last time you did, you broke a bone and handed the pieces to them. last time you did, you bruised your mind and the capillaries are still severed.
                             ( but this isn’t a compromise, this isn’t a discussion. )
             xi.
you bite the pomegranate of chaos and swallow the seeds, the flowers blooming in your stomach.
                                             question:
do you run from the beasts in your reality,                   or do you run from the monsters your invented in your head?
and this is it — the run, run, run. in your fisted palm is a lungful of blood, drained from others’ veins. they call it a sacrifice. they call it an escape. what they actually call it: an exodus. what you actually call it: your carnages. how do you tell bloodshed apart from your fractured facts?
              ( you don’t. )
MUTATION.
he has the ability to become the embodiment of contagion, meaning that he can spread influences accordingly. his state of abilities is dependent on his current mental as well as physical status, although at the peak he can infect up to one kilometre radius, or even more considering the complexities of the influence being spread. his influences include, but not limited to, diseases and insanity, as well as appeal to negative emotions. when it comes to emotions, he finds it easier to amplify than inflict from zero, although the latter is far from impossible. negative influences in the mind are usually formed through the similar systematics of killing serotonin, and sometimes, in more severe cases, inducing necrosis. he’s most educated in terms of disease manipulation, however, compared to the other aspects of his powers.
STRENGTHS.
he can generate, induce, and manipulate diseases — also called disease manipulation in terms of power. while this application greatly varies, it’s highly based on his own knowledge in regards to these illnesses. he cannot inflict what he doesn’t know, and while he can create the diseases, he needs to comprehend the systematic of the diseases: how it affects the immune system, how it affects the body, etc. his understandings about diseases when it comes to this ability are vastly different from that of medical knowledge, and it cannot simply be explained in words.
he can also accelerate and suppress diseases, although healing is a far-fetched idea that he has yet to apply a lot. thus, curing is an aspect least touched upon, rendering it almost obsolete in his deposit. other applications of this are: infection empowerment ( ability to become empowered by the presence of diseases ), pathogen manipulation ( transferral, mimicry, elimination, hypnotic ), cellular disintegration ( to destroy cells by inflicting diseases ), healing factor nullification, as well as mutation inducement, although this one is extremely limited to what might be received by the victim’s dna. poison manipulation — which includes all scopes of poison, including toxin and venom, is also within his reach considering the similar systematics to disease manipulation.
he also possesses a fragment of parasite physiology and virus mimicry, although this is the least harnessed out of the other powers. through his parasitic characteristics, he’s able to tap into genetic memories, and upon touch, replicate an extent of knowledge, despite not much. it’s typically only on the surface, enveloping the conscious. through this, he can read the minds, be they memories or understandings, although this doesn’t last long after the contact is cut off.
in a sense, he’s also bestowed with regenerative healing factor by absorbing someone else’s health, also through direct contact. as for the virus mimicry, while he’s unable to perform anything that alters his solid form, he’s able to execute some of the applications in it, such as rupturing internal organs, although in order to do that he needs to have the victim remaining still — for it takes time. he can also perform cellular disintegration, which relates back to regenerative healing factor nullification, in which he can overpower cellular regeneration.
WEAKNESSES.
he is, by no means, immune to his own powers, and therefore anyone who mimics this power can hit him at his point of vulnerability. he has no superhuman immunity, albeit slightly more enhanced in a way that he doesn’t fall sick as easily, but he’s definitely still able to contract diseases that he himself can spread onto others. the only way to cure himself is by applying his own healing power, which is far from polished. another way to lessen this effect would be through empowerment, although not all diseases can be empowered, and may weaken and eventually kill him instead.
emotional influences are limited to negative scopes only, with the spectrum lying at the corner of fear and madness, and he cannot spread other types of emotions apart from these. it also limits the amplification of emotional states for those around him, where he can only magnify the negative ones as opposed to the positives.
also, in terms of mental stability, he’s slowly decaying considering his powers consume a lot of him. they feed off his sanity, in a way that his emotional responses towards his own influences cause a decline. these powers also rely heavily on his imagination, and most of the time, he feels the imaginary pain of the emotions and diseases before being able to transfer them.
the spectrum of illnesses that he can spread highly depends on the amount of knowledge that he has on said specimens. it’s easier for him to inflict diseases on humans, knowing their specifics of immune system and whatnot, rather than vigils and mutants considering that they vary highly. with the variants, he needs to gauge a measurement as to how much influence is needed to affect them at all.
his power is mostly effective towards those around him as opposed to himself, meaning that while he’s able to apply some of them onto his own benefits, most of it is actually an output. his powers rely on offensive instead of defensive manner, in which if someone manages to replicate and outpower him, he’d be unable to form a defence mechanism. his mimicry might bring some powers inward, but as they’re not as trained as the rest of the powers, they do not work as effectively either.
being mentally unstable also takes a toll on his powers, seeing that they’re reliant on his stability to perform the tasks. it turns into a paradox where his abilities make him unstable; it formulates a never-ending ring of fire, which he knows will eventually consume him mentally. while he can regenerate his own brain cells by the various techniques that he can apply, be it through absorption or empowerment, he cannot fix what’s broken from the sanity for it’s intangible, leaving him with a rotting mind. and unfortunately, his ability to affect emotions are also increasing the volatility of his mental state, further worsening his conditions.
knowledge replication through parasitic tendencies can only be acquired through direct contact, skin on skin without any hindering fabrics and the likes. upon having the contact terminated, knowledge that isn’t obtained in his understandings ( e.g. adoptive muscle memories, as well as other types of knowledge which systematic is foreign to him ) would dissipate as soon as it comes. this doesn’t mean that he can replicate powers either, unless it has something to do with the mind. he can only read memories and thoughts superficially, and although some might be retained depending on how long the contact remains, the majority of it is usually forgotten.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, LEE EUNKYUNG !
… loading statistics. currently aged nineteen, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +4, durability+5, agility +4, dexterity +5, intelligence +7. currently, she is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
i.
eunkyung doesn’t remember much before the school, not really. she remembers the sound of sirens and a warm hand forcing her to hide behind a group of trash cans only for the sound of gunshots to ring the moment she crouched behind the foul smelling garbage holders. and then, a sharp pain in the side of her neck and, finally, nothing.part of her had always wondered if the school had purposefully altered her memories in order to ensure that she would be the perfect subject, someone who didn’t question what they did to her or what they made her do. but somewhere along the way, she begun to do exactly that.
ii.
growing up in a building that was basically an oversized cage and torture chamber where you were forced to fight other mutants in order to survive, something had to give, something always had to give; and that just happened to be her once violent nature. it’d been the death of her best friend, a young western girl by the name of anna johnson who was only a year younger than eunkyung, that had changed her perspective on the world around her. she’d always known that the world they lived in was a cruel one, especially towards mutants, and that certain people would do anything to see them eradicated from the world entirely — and eunkyung had been young and naive enough to believe that the school had been preparing them for the outside world. but it was anna’s death that had forced the young electromagnetic manipulator to open her eyes.
march 19, 2013; a day that would be forever ingrained in eunkyung’s mind. the day that she lost her best friend and discovered that the scientists weren’t there to help them prepare for the outside world, but to instead use their abilities against them by observing them in violent fights between mutants (fights that often resulted in deaths) and attempting to create a vaccine to cure mutants of their abilities from the blood samples said scientists took from their captive mutants. it was a vaccine that they had created from anna’s DNA that killed her, a vaccine they swore would work but instead lied and told anna that it was to make her stronger, the injection had resulted in anna’s very mutation and her white blood cells to team up in order to attack her body; she was dead within the next twenty four hours.
iii.
from then on, eunkyung would work to find a way out of the school. practicing her mutation inside the 5x10 cell she called home to the point where she could easily pry apart the metal bars on the door and windows and the scientists were made to move her to cell with a bulletproof glass door with the school’s deadliest captives as her neighbours — honestly she was quite proud to be considered one of the deadliest mutants there. even if she knew she wasn’t, just the most bothersome.
october 4, 2016; another day (and night) that eunkyung would never forget. it was the day that she had almost lost her life and the night she had simultaneously gained more freedom than she had ever had in her entire life. in what was perhaps the worst fight that eunkyung had ever participated in, she had been made to fight against a man twice her age and size who had the mutation of diamond mimicry; a man that had slammed her so hard against the walls of the fighting pit that it had triggered something deep within eunkyung that had caused her mutation to fight back in a way it never had. the metal walls had rippled dangerously due to the magnetic field her body was releasing before spiking out in random directions, one ridiculously sharp spike shooting right through eunkyung’s stomach and into his throat; effectively killing him on the spot.
after having passed out from loss of blood, eunkyung would make up in one of the older metal barred cells with a rather sloppy stitch job holding her stomach together; but finally, finally, lady luck had smiled down on her. she just hadn’t known that good ol’ lady luck would show up in the form of her being kept in a tiny 5x10 cell with metal bars at 3 in the morning.
iv.
part of eunkyung had, for whatever reason, foolishly thought that getting away from the school would be easy. she honestly should have known that there would still be security patrol the floors and the grounds in and outside the school and that the alarms would sound the moment she pried open the metal bars, but she had been high on pain and the desire to taste freedom.
she had run until her feet were bleeding, until the stitches holding her stomach together had torn open, until she had fallen down a steep hill and had passed out. how the security guards and dogs hadn’t found her was beyond her, but they hadn’t and she had been able to sleep fitfully for a few hours until the pain from her stomach woke her up and she found herself in a place known as hangang academy.
v.
settling into hangang academy had been an odd and, admittedly, terrifying experience. for eunkyung, who was so used to having to fight to survive, who had never felt freedom or acceptance in her life, had greeted the staff and students with aggression and she had no one but herself to blame when the other students avoided her like the plague despite the older mutants and staff doing their best to vouch for her.
it’s a hard thing to do, trying to befriend people when you either flinch away from any form of physical contact or deck the person who thought it’d be fun to surprise you, but she’s trying. and she supposes that that’s all you really can do.
MUTATION.
there have been plenty of mutants in the past who were gifted with the ability of electromagnetism manipulation, but none were as well known as the villain known as magneto. eunkyung supposes that that’s part of the reason why, growing up, she was so ashamed to be gifted with the mutation, especially when it meant that people would more often than not almost immediately associate her with cruelty instead of kindness. she supposes this reaction is what forged her into a person that looked at the world with anger and aggression, she greeted it with bloodied fists instead of an opened heart. though the smaller, positive side of eunkyung wishes to be the one to change the mutant world’s view on her ability, even if it means she’ll have to bend over backwards to do so.
STRENGTHS.
MAGNETISM MANIPULATION: by definition; magnetism manipulation is the sub power of her full mutation and the ability to generate, control, and manipulate magnetic fields in all forms, whether it be natural, organic, or artificial. and although her magnetism manipulation is nowhere near that strong, not yet, it is what got her out of the school. ripping apart the metal bars of her cage and the destroying the metal walls of the school was what had saved her life.
ELECTROMAGNETIC ATTACKS: one of the first abilities she was forced to learn and control at an early age in order to survive the school where she was pitted against other mutants in savage fights in order for the scientists to take notes, with her electromagnetic attack ability, eunkyung is able use her mutation to manipulate magnetic fields to contort metal to her will and even manipulate electric fields to manipulate the pure energy around her in different variations of the intensities.
ELECTROMAGNETISM DETECTION: another thing that made her an asset to the school was her ability to sense the presence of electromagnetic energy and, depending on how long she was given to assess said presence, possibly understand how strong said presence is and whether or not it’s hidden. this sub ability was what made eunkyung a particularly favourable test subject as it gave her a head start in tracking other people and objects.
( PARTIALLY LOCKED ) ELECTROMAGNETISM GENERATION: still lacking in a lot of areas when it comes to her mutation, eunkyung won’t be the last to admit that she is nowhere near as great as the electromagnetic manipulators of the past. whilst they could generate large electromagnetic fields, including electric and magnetic fields, that carry on for miles and last for years and also last for years, eunkyung is lucky if she can generate a field of either for that reaches more than ten feet and lasts longer than fifteen minutes.
WEAKNESSES.
TIME: especially with her electromagnetic generation and detection, eunkyung needs a good amount of time to be able to to generate a proper electromagnetic field and even longer to be able to determine the size of electromagnetic fields, whether or not they’re hidden, and whether or not it’s a threat — with each discovery taking more time to acquire.
MOLTEN METAL: her magnetism does not work on molten metal as the metal loses its magnetic properties once it becomes molten; rendering her mutation practically useless. it’s something that she discovered during one of the many tests the scientists at the school forced her to endure.
DISTANCE: as her ability is still relatively undeveloped, eunkyung is unable to manipulate anything that’s more than fifty feet away from her.
MASS: with the same reason as why she is unable to manipulate electromagnetic fields that aren’t within fifty feet of her, eunkyung is also unable to manipulate objects within electromagnetic fields that are over 120 kilograms. so if you’re looking for someone to absolutely destroy a bridge, you’re going to need look elsewhere.
ANTI ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD PROJECTION: as with most mutants, there is almost always a mutation that counteracts with her own, and the one that reacts to hers is the mutation of anti electromagnetic field projection. when another mutant has the ability to negate her electromagnetic fields, eunkyung’s mutation is rendered basically useless.
EMOTIONS: there’s no denying that eunkyung is very much controlled by her emotions, which isn’t always a great thing. the perfect example is when her life was in danger back at the school and her mutation reacted to the fear pulsing through her body, causing her to release a magnetic field around her and her opponent which allowed the metal wall of the arena behind her to react and spike out in multiple different directions, one spike piercing right through her stomach and into her opponents throat.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, JUNG HYUNSEOK !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-six, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +5, durability +4, agility +7, dexterity +5, intelligence +4. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
Good genetics didn’t mean a good personality. Legends said that everyone has two wolves inside and it’s up to the person as to which wolf wins.  He was meant to be good. He was meant to be a loving brother, perfect son. He was and at the same time he wasn’t.
Jung Seochan, while pregnant with her first child had gone to see almost all the fortune tellers and they were all telling her the same thing about her baby. ‘Your baby will be as graceful as you, as handsome as his father and as pure and kind-hearted as your parents.’ She relayed everything to her husband and they were excited for the arrival of the baby. Originally meant to be born in February on Valentines Day, the baby was a month late and he was born on Friday, March 13th, 1992. They hoped this wouldn’t do anything to his innocence but they shook everything off and thus Hyunseok  came to the world, unaware of the destiny set upon him.
Genetics were good to Hyunseok . He was bound to be tall since his father was tall. Deep set dark eyes, pale skin, pointed face and almost always messy hair. Visually easy on the eyes. At school, a smart student, near perfect grades and teachers all praised him. Many friends, very social.  Jung Hyunseok was effectively perfect.
However, there was always something dark beneath the seemingly perfect individual. His parents realized the fact that they had the basic spawn of Satan in the family when he began acting out. At the age of 4, he got a younger brother and when Hyunseok turned five, he began acting out. His parents caught him almost choking his younger brother and separated them in time. It was then that they realized that their son was not all he was promised to be. He kept it under wraps for five more years watching as his brother became the favorite. Hyunseok didn’t like that. He didn’t like being second best.
An awfully jealous boy as a child, Hyunseok took matters into his own hands at ten years old. He suffocated his own younger brother and he just sat there watching the life drain out of his eyes with a deranged smile. When their parents came home, they found the youngest Jung dead and Hyunseok reading. Seochan put two and two together and reported her own son to the police. Of course she could have pushed for more investigation but there was nothing going for Hyunseok.
The evidence was circumstantial and Hyunseok went to a juvenile detention center for a year, since it wasn’t enough to hold him longer.  At eleven,  when he was released, he became the picture of perfection. All the while plotting his revenge. He got prefect grades and became the perfect son, just like his parents wanted. They believed that he was changed but Hyunseok knew exactly what he was doing. When Hyunseok  was 13 though, he set a rose in the garden on fire when he was playing with a lighter and the rose burned more and more because  Hyunseok wished it as he stared at it. The fire engulfing the flower was so beautiful that he had to show it off. His mother put it out and told him no playing with fire.He was sad but he kept playing with fire, trying out new techniques. Eventually when he was 15, his evil plan had come to fruition and he left the house and set it on fire, watching his dear beloved mother burn for what she did to him. No one sent him off and dismissed him as unimportant. Before long though, he snapped. The evidence was overwhelming and he was sent to prison for a while. He was arrested and his father refused to speak to him. He spent two years in solitary confinement, thinking about fire and his abilities, but as he was a youth at the time, the criminal records were sealed and destroyed. It was as though his teenage years didn’t even exist.
After leaving the prison, he turned to arson and crime, but soon enough that exhausted him and got him bored. He decided to enroll in school to entertain himself. Hangang Academy was perfect.
MUTATION.
According to research done, the user can create, shape and manipulate fire, the rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion, releasing heat, light, and various reaction products, flame being the visible portion of the fire. Hyunseok’s abilities are mainly manipulating and shaping fire. He can’t create it, because he doesn’t have the power for it yet.  Hyunseok, like his Marvel counterpart Pyro, uses a lighter on each hand to create the flame and then using his skills, he manipulates it bigger and bigger.
STRENGTHS.
Fire Invulnerability:  He can be left unharmed by the fire. Essentially, it’s fire resistance to his own flames. Others can be harmed by his flames  and can even die if he wants them too. He first used fire invulnerability when he was in his late teens after setting the house on fire.
Flame Solidification:  Hyunseok has the ability to control the consistency of the fire, going from a jelly like substance to something as hard as metal. When he needs to use flame solidification, he first blasts a line of fire on the ground and then through will, he raises it as high or as low as he needs it and shapes it into weaponry or a wall to protect himself from other attacks.
Fire Attacks: He can use fire to attack in blasts and melee attacks, enabling him to be more aggressive with the fire. Essentially this is his main application of powers, and the intensity comes from his emotions as well as the power (how big they are). Usually he sticks to showing with a small flame but only if he’s provoked or someone he loves, that’s only when he allows his power to spiral more into attack mode
WEAKNESSES.
The range of his fire blasts is limited to 9 feet. He’s working on increasing it.
Fire attacks and flame solidification tire him out. After intense use of fire attacks, he can sleep for 24 hours and after flame solidification for an increased period of time, he needs two days rest before he can fight
The intensity of the fire blasts (how hot they are) depends on his emotions and if he’s angry, then the fire will be hotter than if he’s calm.
He can only use Flame Solidification for four hours at maximum before he passes out of exhaustion.
Even if he can be unharmed by fire, the fire has to be one that he has set.
He will still burn to death or have severe burns if the fire is out of his control and out of his capabilities.
He’s not very strong physically but he’s strong mentally because he has to control the fire.
The lighter fluid in his lighter is what creates the fires, so if he runs out of the lighter fluid, he can’t use his ability.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, CHO BYUNGGYU !
... loading statistics. currently aged twenty-five, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files... mutant has the following records: strength +3, durability +5, agility +6, dexterity +3, intelligence +8. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
gwangju, 1993
byunggyu is born just before the year ends. his parents are thrilled to welcome him into the world. his father is a cardiologist and his mother is a nurse, living a picturesque life now that their family is completed with a daughter and a son. they give their children high expectations to succeed, and so byunggyu’s childhood is otherwise unremarkable besides studying and studying and studying.
los angeles, 2012
california is a weird breath of fresh air. school here is easy. it definitely doesn’t require studying at all waking hours, and so he discovers all the other things he can do with this newfound time. he finds that he likes making friends and learning new things, from snowboarding to painting to dancing. he’s not even good at most of them, but eventually he learns that it’s nice not having to care about that.
seoul, 2013
after his freshman year of college, he returns to korea and completes his military service with the army. once he’s a boy turned man then he can return to his life, more disciplined for having served his country and done his duty.
it still feels like two years wasted, but at least it’s over.
los angeles, 2016
things begin to unravel during his senior year of college. sometimes he blacks out randomly and realizes he can’t remember anything about the other day when his friends ask about his weekend, even if he didn’t go out and drink. he starts seeing things, having weird dreams of being someone else. his girlfriend accuses him of going through her texts and stalking her when he asks about an outing with a coworker. but he didn’t, did he? or was he actually there? how else would he know what the coworker looked like? then she starts accusing him of poisoning her; she says that they’ll fight but she’ll wake up the next morning still at his place, not remembering why she hadn’t yet left.
the stress of it all gets to him. school falls to the wayside. despite desperately cramming, all of it seems to dissipate by the time he sits down for his exams and he bombs most of his finals. at this point he’s convinced to seek help. he goes to a doctor and for weeks he agonizes if it’s a brain tumor that’s too far gone. the tests come back clear though, so they do some genetic testing just in case, and those results are worse.
he’s a mutant.
gwangju, 2017
hopelessly lost and adrift, he drops out of school and returns home. his mother cries a lot because she doesn’t understand where they went wrong or what they did to deserve such a fate. he cries too, in the privacy of his own room. for the next year he avoids leaving the house altogether, crippled by the crushing sense of failure and shame. he doesn’t want anyone to see him, and he doesn’t want to see anyone either for fear of his ability being used.
seoul, 2018
a recruiter reaches out to him and offers a solution: join a newly-made school where he can train and master his ability. his parents are against the idea; they’ve heard of the school in america and it seems awfully pro-mutant and unregulated. byunggyu can’t really argue that, but despite all of that it’s still a way back to his life, a chance to return to normalcy.
so he leaves home and heads toward seoul.
MUTATION.
memory manipulation is the ability to control and influence memories–this allows byunggyu to view, modify, erase, restore, and fabricate memories. however, he has little control over his ability due to his lack of training and fear of using it. as such, it’s sometimes triggered by physical touch, allowing him to accidentally glimpse into other people’s memories. other times it’s triggered by emotional distress, such as causing blackouts and gaps in memory for himself and others whenever he’s particularly embarrassed and wants to forget that time he tripped in public. currently, he can view and erase memories. (whether he can do that well is another thing altogether.) modifying, restoring, and fabricating memories requires much more finesse and skill, and are therefore currently beyond his control.
STRENGTHS.
use of his ability requires minimal energy and stamina. it does, however, require focus and skill, and can result in disorientation depending on how many memories he’s sorting through.
he can view people’s memories or vice versa. all this requires is a physical touch and memories can filter through his mind in a flash. with prolonged touch, he can replay the memory as though he or the target is reliving the experience.
he can erase people’s memories. or his own. this can be permanent or temporary, and allows him to indirectly manipulate people, such as forgetting his embarrassing moments so people think he’s cooler than he is.
his ability has other aspects that give him a lot of potential, although they’re currently untapped since he’s terrified of using that on people until he has more training under his belt.
WEAKNESSES.
he can’t directly control people through his ability in the way that persuasion can. (if he were more skilled) he could implant memories of being the target’s childhood friend, but whether the target actually lets him in their house is beyond his control.
permanently modifying other people’s memories often comes at the cost of his own. this stems from his lack of control over his ability, and even worse is that he can’t choose which memory he happens to forget either.
otherwise, modified memories are often temporary and the effects fade within hours. significant gaps or inconsistencies in memories can cause nervous breakdowns or suspicion in targets.
deliberate use of his power hinges on physically touching the target, skin to skin or through clothes. however, when his ability is triggered due to emotional distress then it affects targets up to a few feet away from him, even if they aren’t touching.
his ability can work in an instant, but that typically occurs when it’s triggered and not out of his own volition. purposefully using his power would take more time and, while his ability is in use, he’s unable to do much else. it makes him an easy target.
viewing other people’s memories can leave him stunned and disoriented while he sorts out his own memories and other people’s. extensive use of this aspect can unravel his sense of identity and self.
this ability doesn’t inherently make him more intelligent or more mentally capable. nor does it make him any physically stronger or emotionally durable. he’s actually this close to a mental breakdown, y'all.
his ability only works on living creatures. he can only view memories as the target experienced and remembers them, which can be limiting if he’s seeking information.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, APINYA ”BAMBI” KESSAWAI !
... loading statistics. currently aged twenty, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files... mutant has the following records: strength +6, durability +3, agility +8, dexterity +2, intelligence +6. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
bambi was still young when his parents were to be found murdered in the place that should’ve been filled with love, laughter and gentle touches. in his home. instead, the murder left it cold, empty.. haunting. he was 4 though, to be exact on the matter. murdered in a town in thailand for being found as mutants.
murdered by those too scared to face the possibilities of mutants and their powers.
bambi was a lucky child to have gotten out of it, and for that, the only reason he has is because the boy had hidden himself away. closed himself in his closer and waited for days before the police finally ventured upstairs to find the boy shaking, too terrified of coming out to have forced himself to open the door earlier. but they were kind to him, given the circumstances and all. and with no where else to go, bambi was moved from a temporary orphanage to his grandparents house in busan instead.. far from what he knew as home.
the boy wasn’t yet away of his own mutant status yet either, only that it was very obvious his grandparents held no interest in dealing with him at all, mostly just leaving bambi to his own devices and shouting at him whenever he did anything they didn’t like. bambi was never praised, or even handled carefully. just roughly and begrudgingly because they didn’t like him, want him, or even ask to have to deal with him.
but his mutation makes itself known finally during school one day when he’s 9.
the cause of it? well, bambi was no stranger to bullies, but one day when they’re pushing around again and making the already timid boy feel sick to his stomach with fear ( and even worse when they hit him and kick him there too ) - but suddenly none of that matters anymore. suddenly, all bambi can focus on is the searing pain that rips through different parts of his body and grows worse as the seconds tick by. a blood curdling and violent scream resonates through the playground ( which was already enough to make them back off ). but bambi doesn’t remember what happened after that scream, only that he was told of the fact he’d turned into a skeleton and beat up those hurting them. that he’d hurt them enough to have everyone, teachers included, fear him.
bambi hadn’t even been fully awake for when his skin had frown back or when they’d sent him home either. that had taken hours the first time, and his grandparents had left him in the car because they couldn’t stand the sight or to be around him them.
he didn’t really blame them.
but it’s easy to say that bambi didn’t get to go back to school after that either. instead, he was kept home schooled, and for the most part of everyday bambi was locked up in his room having to do what he was told. his grandfather started to hit him anytime he even thought that bambi’s mutation might show too.. or just when he got angry about it, or scared. he hit the young boy. but it only made it worse; the abuse making the boy partially shift in the process. the skeleton awakening in defence.
bambi’s life continued on like that too, with him having little to no contact with the outside world, and never coming to know what softness or kindness felt like. bambi only knew pain and rough touches.. no sort of love or freedom.
the worst to happen however is when he’s 17.
at that point in his life, bambi was fairly well educated. he’d taught himself everything he needed to know because no one else would ( they were too scared of him whenever they found out about the fact he was a mutant ). bambi had even taken to trying to control his mutation as well, just a little, as if to bargain with it because a lot of the time bambi felt like it controlled him.. that there were two people inside him fighting for dominance, and more often than not, bambi would lose. but he was getting there slowly, even if he was still scared of himself just like everyone else.
but it’s at a time just after his grandmother had passed– a year or so after that. his grandfather had been getting increasingly more angry and aggressive towards him, to a point where he was locked up for days without food or being let out at all.. usually he’s at least let out a little– but the man comes into his room finally, only to see bambi partially shifted, face ripped to reveal the skeletal features, and he flips out on him instead of the shouting he usually does to him.
bambi can’t exactly say what happened, only that he can remember hands having been around his throat choking him whilst screaming at him to stop it and to turn it back. other foul words included in the mix. that he should be a human instead of a freak like his parents were. that’s when bambi had black out, woken up somewhere entirely different instead.. not really sure where that was too. but he’d find that out within the next few months instead when he’s taken in by a couple who also had a mutant daughter as well as a few other children.
the couple had found him within an alleyway when he was regrowing his skin, and they’d brought him home with them. it had helped that their daughter was a memory reader, anyway, and a fairly good one at that too. she’d managed to weave through bambi’s mind to see everything that he’d been through, and that alone had been enough to solidify the family taking him in as their own.
that was the first time that bambi had ever seen kindness in those years. years since his parents had died, love and softness had abandoned him. but here, no one raises their voice at him, and if he flinched then they worked around it and tried to help him with overcoming it. he was still sick a lot whenver he got scared or panicked, and when he woke up terrified that he was back there again he’d be sick for hours. the same happening whenever he heard something that reminded him of it too, mostly loud noises anyway.. but it became a large worry for a while. after numerous visits to doctors, they were simply told it was something he’d have to grow out of over time, and that too much had happened right now for it to simply stop then and there. it wasn’t a worry, just.. a bad situation.
and so from then, bambi was able to try and start up a life that he’d never been handed before, and even then, the family had managed to help him out with his mutation on top of that too. they could teach him more, even if he was scared of it– but the fact that his newly adoptive family weren’t? well, it made a whole difference in terms of trying to teach him control and understand it better than he did before.
and hell, bambi even managed to start up a youtube channel just a little after he’d turned 18 when they all encourage him to try doing something as a distraction or that he just finds fun. it starts as vlogging then, before it turns to gaming and then streaming as well.. and it’s safe to say that bambi never really expected to be building up so much popularity from it so quickly, given that by the time he’s 20 and getting ready to head off to some new.. mutant school with his sister? well, but that time anyway, he has over a couple million subscribers and a lot of people excited to watch his weekly, sometimes daily, vlogs and his random streams and gaming videos. but he knows why he’s popular too, because people like the fact that he’s.. well he’s like any normal gamer that isn’t entirely good at things and doesn’t understand things as well as others. he’s not the best at his games, and at most he’s below average– people like that. they just like his content and his timid but soft personality.
either way though, the school is a new chapter for bambi. a scary one considering he’s never really thought about meeting new mutants that aren’t his sister, but it would be a good step for him now given that he.. well, bambi needed the extra help.
MUTATION.
skeleton physiology is the ability to turn into a fully functioning and living skeleton. this is done through the process of the skin being shed from the body in an extremely painful manner, and then regrowing itself once more back onto the body; again, in an extremely painful manner.
to explain it with bambi though, is to say that it’s very much a jekyll and hyde situation. his power, the skeleton bambi calls ‘bones’, is what feels like to bambi; it’s own person. like dissociative personality disorder, only his power causes it and it’s essentially bambi and the skeleton fighting for dominance. bambi’s scared of the skeleton, but they’ve grown to a point where bambi knows now the skeleton is just trying to protect him and sometimes teach him, it’s why bambi is awake more whilst shifted.
STRENGTHS.
the easiest and most associated is that he can turn into a complete skeleton form, lacking all physical weakness that a human deals with, as well as the inability to feel pain and temperature changes, and will not be harmed. this is only when in his skeleton form, and although he can use this ability to heal his skin when regrowing, it doesn’t mean that he can heal himself at will. to heal his skin, he must turn into a full skeleton and then reform the skin, which in turn heals any scars too in the process.
he can partially shift, and that takes the form of mostly just his face/neck, and hands shifting to a more skeletal form, but not completely. it’s hard to describe, so the best way to describe it would be this. there are no abilities associated with this specific ability, only that it is more an intimidation tactic, and it isn’t hard for him to do, it’s not as hard to shed the skin, or as painful - the only flaw is that he can’t control it and it’s the skeleton inside him that usually makes him do it.
whilst in skeleton form, his stamina and speed increase due to his lightness, making him move more effortlessly and gracefully. it makes it easier for him to hide and act quicker, his reflexes being enhanced. he becomes more agile all around, so he is harder to catch and harder to see.
it’s almost like another personality, another adaption of his power being apathy ability in which he has the ability to suppress his emotions until he is no longer feeling anything. this removes feelings of guilt, remorse and moral rights. the thing with this though is that bambi and the skeleton are like two different people, and the skeleton is the apathetic one that forces him to feel nothing or tries to take over and turn him into the skeleton and bambi has a hard time trying to suppress him; basically like his ability is trying to control him.
WEAKNESSES.
he cannot maintain the skeletal form for lengthy amounts of time, and the longest that he can keep it up is roughly five or six hours total. at first, he could only keep it up an hour or so, but over the years since it’s development it’s been getting longer. so he can keep it up to that length, however exceeding it usually causes him to pass out before he has even thought about shifting back.
a little linked to the point above, shifting back is not a quick process as it does involve his muscles, organs, skin, everything, regrowing and reforming, and the process is not quick and cannot be sped up. if his energy isn’t depleted, it can take an hour ( but it’s rare for that), but more often than not it can take anywhere between five to ten hours. more often than not he will be unconscious for this process. whenever his energy is completely spent though, it can take longer then ten hours to let himself go back to normal - and the process is extremely painful, as is shifting into a skeleton too.
it is a very painful process, both shifting and regrowing skin as anyone can imagine. shifting involves the shedding of said skin, and although he’s grown to bare it and the process has gotten a little faster now that he’s training a little, it still hurts an awful lot. regrowing his skin, considering it takes a longer time, is so much more painful and it is why he’s normally unconscious because when he is conscious during it, hes in utter agony.
sometimes his memory can be skewed when he wakes up again, mostly because sometimes it can all blur together from when he’s shifted since most of the time he isn’t in control of it, and the skeleton kind of takes over him.
he cannot speak whilst in skeletal form, usually relying on gesturing, motioning, or sign language for those that can understand it. but he can hear, and see, perfectly fine.
he is weak to bone manipulation and necromancy because this can overpower him when he is in a weaker form, but he can fight back against it if he isn’t too tired out already.
powerful blows can sometimes cause his bones to break apart, and although he can put himself back together, it can take a little bit and until then he’s a lot weaker and more vulnerable, and it’s just a hassle really.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, SOO SIWON !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-three, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +2, durability +4, agility +8, dexterity +5, intelligence +6. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
siwon grew up with the strong presence of his father in his life. his mother died while giving birth to him, but that only pushed the widower to take even better care of the product of their love. siwon’s mom didn’t have any special abilities, but his father did – even if the boy didn’t find that out until he was old enough for the signals to start showing.
living in the countryside of seoul with his father, his childhood wasn’t troubled. he’s always been a smart kid, getting good grades, behaving well in school and also at home. really, an ordinary boy living an ordinary life. a bit clumsy and awkward, but people found the way he kept bumping into literally everything endearing. of course, he didn’t know the power he held, which was revealed to him a couple of weeks after his 16th birthday.
siwon had been out with some friends from his neighborhood, having fun and doing what teenage boys do, when they heard some growling; there was a big, wild dog chasing them. all of his friends ran, laughing about it because they were running away from a dog. how ridiculous was that?! however, siwon wasn’t laughing. he had accidentally tripped on something (maybe a rock?), and suddenly it was like his entire life was flashing in front of his eyes. yes, a big cliché, but at the time, he couldn’t think about that. he shut his eyelids tightly and waited for the fall to come and the dog to come get him, but… nothing happened. when he opened his eyes again, he was floating 6 feet above the ground, the dog angrily barking at him from down there.
the shock lead him to lose complete control of the situation, and he ended up crashing right into an old lady’s backyard, getting completely dirty in the mud the rain created. his father went completely pale when the boy got home, telling him about what had happened. at first, siwon thought he’d just tell him he was hallucinating, that the fall in the mud made him think something that absurd had happened, but he was surprised to have the man sit beside him after he was done showering and tell him he was a mutant.
it didn’t make sense at first. how could he be something he had never even heard about? his father was now set on making him believe, though, so the next day he took him to an open field at night time, with just enough lighting so that siwon could see as he himself flew around for a bit, leaving his son flabbergasted on the ground. did that mean he could fly like that, too? his curiosity lead him to try, but of course, it only ended in frustration, since he crashed right into a hay bale.
after that, his father started teaching him more and more how to use his powers and telling him to keep it as a secret. no one could know; if siwon tried flying around like no one was watching, he’d only blow his cover, as well as every other mutant out there. there were more people like him, and he was just so excited to meet them. maybe make some friends he could actually be himself with… who knows? the possibilities were endless.
for quite sometime, the only person really close to him was his father, but he had other friends outside. being a very social person, he’s always enjoyed talking to people and exchanging ideas, but there was just something different about speaking to one of your own – that’s why he loved his conversations with his dad so much.
of course, that meant he got extremely excited when he knew about the hangang academy through his father, since he was in touch with a few important people in the field. that could be a very fresh start for him to not be known as “the clumsy guy”, or “the nerd”, or “the tall one”. while in the air, he turned into a whole different person, and to show that to others was his number one wish.
MUTATION.
“don’t fear the fall, my son. the air will embrace you as long as you embrace it”, his father had told him once as they flew around their usual training camp. now, it made total sense to siwon. as he let his mind control the way he flew around, avoiding obstacles and changing ways at the last moment, he truly felt as if he was one with the wind. the way it blew right against his face as he let himself free was amazing; the one thing siwon cherished the most, apart from his father.
it was always like this. gravity couldn’t stop him as he lifted his feet off of the ground. things in his way couldn’t stop him as he maneuvered himself around them to get a good path. strange thoughts couldn’t stop him, seeing as his mind was always clear when he truly let himself have that moment. the only thing really capable of stopping him was… his biggest limitation. his flight lasted for an hour, in the maximum, and then he had to rest for a whole night. maybe working on that could really boost up his energy.
STRENGTHS.
being able to fly to different places makes it so it’s easier for siwon to move around, and after he got the hang of it, he no longer hurt himself as much as he did before. nowadays, he resorts to floating a few centimeters above the ground over walking; it guarantees less bumping onto things;
he gets to places fast, and once was even able to help out one of his friends when he called him while drunk. he was never able to figure out how siwon had gotten to where he was so fast (but then again, he was drunk, so… could be just his imagination);
his brain has gotten used to the feeling of being in the air, and whenever he flies, he shuts everything off, and it’s a good thing because it helps him concentrate more in the task at hand instead of literally anything else that could distract him; if he’s more concentrated, he can do better;
siwon’s sight and sense of direction are amazing; he can get to places he wants as fast as he wants because his mind already knows where it’s going before he even willingly thinks about it.
WEAKNESSES.
every time the ability is used, there can only be a certain time of usage until siwon gets extremely tired, and then he has to rest for way more time than before. that’s one of the reasons why he’s very often seen taking a nap anywhere (or not seen at all, tucked away in his dorm);
it’s very easy for siwon to be seen if he’s flying in the middle of the day, so the only time he can actually do that without worrying too much is during the night;
he’s very good at flying around, but as a form of balance, the ground isn’t very merciful with him. he’s often bumping into things, tripping over his own feet, falling with no sign of what lead him to fall. it’s a mess;
seeing as his one true ability is flying, he’s not that good in everything else. sure, he’s intelligent, but that was before he knew exactly what he could do;
he can’t fly in bad weather, seeing as it will cloud his vision and his mind and make it so he can’t find his way;
due to his need to stay out in the open at all times, siwon has developed claustrophobia, and he can’t handle staying in a closed room for more time than needed.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, RYU EUNYOUNG !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +5,durability +5, agility +5, dexterity +5, intelligence +5. currently, she is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
i. prologue — the beginning of the end
nobody likes a hero. despite what the media force feeds down your throat with the endless throngs of superhero movies and advertisements, no one likes a hero. at least, not in the real world they don’t. when a shrill shriek echoed in her ears, the lost child didn’t even bother to bat an eyelash — the sound was sadly all too familiar to her, anyways, in more ways than one. the muffled sounds of talking followed the screech, accompanied with some distant begs of mercy and the like. laughter arose from the pleas, with the eery tones of the chuckles sending even goosebumps down her own spine. now, she usually didn’t pride herself in being a coward, but with the threat of flashbacks plaguing her mind just from the sheer sound of screams inching closer and closer to her emotional well-being, she couldn’t find the willpower inside of her to unshroud herself from the shadows after she turned the corner. the goal was to avoid eye contact at all costs. nothing screams empathy more than staring into the eyes of someone sobbing for you to spare their life. help me, they would say. save me.
ii. eclipse — surrendering to the darkness
witching hour continues to hang over her and a nightmare, in which seems to be a tragedy forgotten continues to reset, replay, and repeat. a grim reminder of her past sins, in which was a heavy debt that she needed pay for, but did not remember. many questions were left unanswered and no living witness remained in the world to answer them. while ill-fated and filled with misfortune, she had to work harder than most to overcome the daily obstacles society has set stacked against her will.
she has no memory of her own birth parents; she only knows that she was abandoned. as a child after the incident that became a reminding nightmare, her well-being was put under a self-claimed uncle, who was nothing else other than a hard driven alcoholic who loved gambling and only cared for his own selfish needs. whenever he gambles, he always made extravagant bets and, if he loses, he never pays. instead, he leaves her or someone else to do so. often desperate or life threatening, these situations had left her to become an independent individual who only believed that she needed to rely on her own abilities ( awakened and harnessed at an early stage during her adolescence ) and experiences to survive and make ends meet.
she was an inconspicuous and unobtrusive student, often deemed as a misfit, an outcast, and/or an enigma by other students. sometimes, barely existing. so much was happening on her plate unrelated to school, even she herself would have been surprised if she had anyone to mention those accomplishments she made relating to school. however, she was labeled as a delinquent as the witnesses had rumors that she was the leader of a gang with intimidating all-female followers. in addition, she was also suspended for going against a teacher’s requests, causing physical injury to a male student that had made misogynistic remarks against another student, and had rude behavior in front of the student’s parents that belittled her socioeconomic status.
in the end, if she had not attempted to even try or even excel in her grades, the result would have meant the end of her education. once enrollment opened, she applied to hangang academy based on her uncle’s close acquaintance’s recommendation.
MUTATION.
her ability is based on vector conversion, that allows her to control vectors (magnitude and direction) and influence objects that have vectors, such as bullets. she can use the ability to be defensive or offensive. this ability requires a great amount of calculating power. she needs to take into account the several vectors that she wants to redirect, and when activated, the several variables that are present when controlling the vectors.
STRENGTHS.
redirection ( def. )  to reverse any oncoming vector coming towards the field that protects her entire body  —  for defensive use, her subconscious establishes a filter that analyzes everything as harmful or not, and uses her reflect to push away anything that could harm her
tactile telekinesis ( def. ) by touching an object, she can use her ability to change the magnitude of vectors she comes in contact with  —  allows her to change the vectors of objects in such a way that she can turn them to projectiles
acceleration ( def. ) controlling the vectors around her body she can achieve inhuman speed
WEAKNESSES.
an automatic reflection field  — so far, only wired to her intuition ( instinct or subconscious awareness ).
she is unable to control this ability by her own will and is also often activated to become the absolute defence when her emotions are engulfed with fear and the thoughts of death.
the barrier for her redirection is not an absolute defense —  it only reverses the vectors that are coming towards her, any vector that comes towards her barrier and pulls away at the exact moment before hitting its field will go towards her, inflicting physical damage
distraction may put her at risk  —  is ( often ) required to perform calculations to use this ability
only be able to affect vectors related to physical objects  — vulnerable to any harmful effect that is unrelated to vectors ( ex. mental abilities )
only be able to manipulate a certain number of vectors at a time ( max : 2 )  — her focus & control can only last the longest by manipulating up to 2 vectors
acceleration speed is 80 mph ( max : 15 min ) — other than being able to increase her speed, she is unable to multi-task and manipulate other vectors during her run

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, RHEE HWAN !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-one, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +1, durability+4, agility +5, dexterity +7, intelligence +8. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
a young girl, giving birth to a child she didn’t want. the father was long gone, a mistake from a night of drunken passion. it was no surprise that the nun would come out to find a newborn on the steps of the church. he wasn’t the first and he wouldn’t be the last. hwan was a very well-behaved child. he never cried and he was never rude. he listened well and was a model child, but he was strange. the other children avoided him. he seemed to always know what people felt. the other children thought he was creepy. the nuns only thought of him as a sweet boy, possibly one very in tune with God. it wasn’t until he was eight when his ability truly showed itself in his eyes. another child was bullying hwan and while he tried to apologize for upsetting the other, the boy kept hitting hwan. no nun was around to protect him. to make the hitting stop, he grabbed the other, his eyes changing to a bright red. the first time hwan had ever felt such anger, but he also felt fear - fear from the boy towards hwan. his eyes changed colors a few time, causing the other boy more fear, but hwan didn’t want to scare him. he just wanted the other to calm down and listen. the boy didn’t feel anything after that. he just sat there, with a blank expression, staring at hwan. the nuns came and saw the way hwan’s eyes changed colors based on his own emotions and when one of them touched him, he felt their worry then he felt their fear. he wasn’t a child of God in their eyes anymore. this was a time that hwan forgot. a time full of pain and abuse. the pain of it all became too much, so he ran and he made himself forget. he didn’t want to remember the things they did to him. for a short time, he lived on the street, begging for scraps. sometimes, he used his gifts to help him convince people to give him food. he stole food too. he wasn’t proud, but he was hungry. a man found him then. offered him food and a home. at first, hwan didn’t want to go, but he had nothing else. he agreed and he would look back and wished he hadn’t.the man was a scientist, trying to understand the mutant gene. since hwan’s ability effected the mind, he was thrilled when he learned of the boy from the nuns, knowing many mutant children ended up in orphanages. for the first few years of hwan’s time with the scientist, he was stuck with needles and kept in a room he could not escape. the scientist never allowed hwan close enough to him to touch him. it was sometime when he was thirteen when hwan was instructed to use his powers on the homeless that the scientist found, offering them food and money if they took part in his experiments. hwan was instructed to give and take emotions until he was tired out, his eye turning grey, his expression blank. the poor men he touched, no longer able to feel anything.he hated himself. he hated what the man made him, but hwan couldn’t escape. he was locked away, an experiment for a man to learn something he could never understand. when he was fourteen, mutants attacked the lab and freed hwan from the scientist. two of them, a female couple, offered to take him home with him and promised they would care for him the way he deserved. for the first time in his life, he felt loved and cared for. they never pulled away from him touch and they smiled just because he was around. despite what he was forced to endure, he realized he could find love in his life somehow. that was all he ever really wanted and his mothers gave him that. instead of only ever being called hwan, he became rhee hwan, loved by his mothers and cared for.his life went by peacefully after that. he went to school, making sure to wear contacts to hide his eyes. he was fine just living a normal life as a person while his mothers did what they needed to do. when he heard of hangang academy, he knew he needed to go there. he knew of the x-men and he wanted to be someone not only mutants could trust, but also humans. his mothers encouraged him to go and he packed up his things, said goodbye and joined the academy to become an x-men.
MUTATION.
hwan has the ability to read the emotions of anyone he touches. with his ability, hwan is able to immediately tell what the others is feeling, even emotions they may not be aware they felt. something he has learned and still has difficulty with is controlling emotions. he can either give emotions or take them away. for example, if a person is distressed, he can remove the fear or anxiety and instead make the person calm. a way to tell if he is using his powers is if his eyes change colors based on the emotions he feels when he touches someone (or when he’s feeling extreme emotions).
STRENGTHS.
not to be confused with telepathy, but in many cases, hwan has the ability to determine why someone feels an emotion. it isn’t so much he can hear thoughts, but he comments it is similar to an echo. because a person feels multiple emotions at once, the ‘echos’ are more focusing on the smaller emotions and how they relate to the main emotions. a good example would be if he touches two people are both angry, say one cheated on the other, he can sense the anger and distrust one felt and guilt and remorsefulness from the other. he would then make a guess as to the fact one cheated on the other.
as stated, hwan has the ability to take emotions away and replace it with new emotions. this can be very useful in battle if he is able to get close to someone. he has been known to even cause people to fall asleep, since making them tired and exhausted is considered an emotional response.
his ability and personality have made him extremely useful in tough situations. because he can calm those who are nervous or scared, he is someone perfect to have around on difficult missions. he is a very calming presence and can be useful in stressful situations.
WEAKNESSES.
especially with strong emotions, hwan can become very sick from using his ability too long. since he is taking emotions away, it stores in his own body for a short period of time. while he has pretty good control of his own emotions, a lot of contradicting emotions isn’t good for his psyche and can leave him very sick and almost in a depressive state.
because his power is solely focused on touch alone, it means he has to get close to someone. depending on his enemy, he could be at a very big disadvantage.
since his ability deals with emotions, forcing emotions on another person can mess with their psyche as much as his own. it can take a toll on the body if and he has left people catatonic from overuse of his ability.
due to the fact his power does affect his appearance, it is possible for someone to know when he is using his ability since he can’t actually turn it off. when he touches someone, he automatically knows what their emotions are and it impossible to lie to him in that regard and impossible for him to lie as well.
the ‘echos’ he hears are mostly done through his own personal observations of the person he’s touching and the emotions he feels. a person feels multiple emotions as once and it isn’t like reading minds. it is mostly through guessing on his own part. it isn’t so much mind reading as it is personal observation.
against other abilities that deal with emotions and the mind, such as mind control or even telepathy or those devoid of emotions, won’t be able to have their emotions read by hwan. in most cases, he is even more susceptible to their own abilities, leaving him defenseless. - since he only has two hands and it takes a few moments for his ability to work, he is once again at a disadvantage against multiple enemies. he is someone who cannot be on the frontline because he would be an open target.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, PARK SOOJIN !
… loading statistics. currently twenty-one, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +4, durability +7, agility +5, dexterity +5, intelligence +4. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
the strong sent of sticky sweet booze and heavy smoke had always been sickening to the boy. scrunching his nose up whenever his father was around, hands coming up to cover his ears when the shouting began between two parents that were far to busy to even look after their own flesh and blood.
his family was poverty striken, barely struggling to get by. he’d never been shown the luxuries of what other boys and girls his age got. never knew the feeling of a full stomach or clean bed sheets every week. never got to experience the fun of playing with shiny new toys and feeling a warm embracing touch. he’d grown used to slurred swears and cold stares an even colder touch from the two beings he should bare nothing but love for. he’d always resented them for bringing him into this world. for making him the cliche he was. after all he’d been born into the darkness and quickly learnt there was no escaping it.
from the moment he’d been born his fate down a dark and twisted path had been sealed. and the sad part was he’d come to embrace his fate.
the unfortunate death of both his parents, first his mother from a gruesome sickness then his father who’d been beaten and left to rot on the street because he’d messed with the wrong people, only seemed to numb soojin more than he already was.
he turned to the streets. growing up like a rat, a term he’d often been called from his grubby hands and matted hair. but he took it with a pinch of salt, did whatever he could to get by because thats how he’d been brought up. he was a survivor unlike his failure parents and he would do anything to prove that to not only himself but those around him that put him down constantly.
he streets made him smart. he picked up nifty tricks here and there and became the only thing he had even found himself good at, theft. he picked pockets and played magic tricks to the poor suckers that would buy into it. robbing them blindly for everything they had on them just so he could get by, just like all the other kids that had grown up on the street. except soojin had something that gave him an advantage, he was a mutant though he was a rookie, never fully being able to control or master his abilities.
as he grew older so did his smarts and his charming ways. by the age of sixteen he’d stolen and worked enough odd jobs to secure him a place of his own, baring in mind it was rickety and falling apart but it would do for now.
however his shitty life did not stay like that for long, after one encounter on one eventful night at a gambling house, he’d attempted to full his usual facade, playing each member into his hands and taking the loot of money that had piled up all for himself with the help of a bribed dealer and set a second eyes telling him what the others had for their hands. until he’d been called out, “he’s a cheater” they’d said which had caused him to flee. he’d been caught out and couldn’t afford to be taken away in handcuffs and slammed up. not when he’d done so well to keep out of the eye of authorities. thats when he ran into him, the man that would change his life and offer a save haven. a place for mutants like him.
he wasnt an idiot and took the mans offer, starting a new life at a school for the gifted.
MUTATION.
soojin has the ability to instigate or produce nightmares into others. this allows him to project nightmares into someone’s subconscious whether they are asleep or awake however the effect of the nightmare is more affective in sleep due to the victims imagination in dream state being more active than in their awake state. the nightmares that he can produce range from something simple like a monster under a bed to something more serious like a phobia of confined spaces for example.
STRENGTHS.
due to the nature of his ability soojin’s imagination is vast and can easily come up with unique ways to induce a person’s nightmares.
he also has no limits to what a person’s nightmare will be, it comes down to what the person is scared of or will believe to be a nightmare.
soojin does not require touch to create nightmares and can tap into someones subconscious to enable the nightmares.
he may also affect both people who are asleep or awake, though someone who is asleep may be easier to manipulate.
WEAKNESSES.
his inducements do not last forever and usually wear off between an hour to an hour and half depending on the mental state of a victim and how bad their nightmare is.
if a victim does not possess any nightmares or fears he can contribute towards a persons nightmares then his powers will not take affect.
similarly people will be affected in different ways and soojin cannot guarantee that his powers will always have a strong affect on someone.
sometimes knowledge of someone’s fears or what they’re scared off are required in order to induce a victim to a nightmare.
soojin is not completely unaffected by his own power and when asleep will often face his own nightmares.
although he does not require touch for his powers to work, he needs a good visual on his victim and the nightmare that he wants to induce. if something blocks his path such as objects can cause his powers to not work or sometimes even stop working in worst case scenarios.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, HAN JISOO !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-two, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +4, durability+8, agility +7, dexterity +4, intelligence +2. currently, she is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
she’s long learnt that size is less important than agility. at least, that’s her theory.
it’s not working too well, her opponent besting her with sheer mass, fists almost the size of her head and the strength behind it as well. jisoo gasps, each breath marred with copper-bitter blood. her attacks hardly register on this mountain of a man, and she’s relegated to defense, cornered, her forearms shielding her face. he can finish her with just one more punch, and they both know it. but this is not a fight to withdraw from, and so jisoo braces herself as he swings his arm towards her, aimed high.
she hears the crunch of bone, but it’s not hers – she is untouched, fortified and held together by the imperceptible shift in her skin. her opponent is screaming in pain, his fingers flat against his palm in unnatural dislocation. she can barely grasp what’s happened, the instinctive understanding fading against the commotion of the fight itself, but jisoo feels the change in her body well enough to know her next move.
she curls her hand into a fist and knocks that sucker out.
she’s born fighting, thrown into the world with her tiny hands curled into fists. her family loves her, does their best to soothe the inexplicable roughness they find in her, but nothing quite works. she is loved, her parents giving all they can in any circumstances they find themselves in, and jisoo grows up a little softer, but she keeps her edges, the prickliness that keeps most people away. she’s seen enough of the way others like her are treated to know it’s better that way.
when she is nineteen, she falls into the wrong company. it’s a familiarity known to her only when she discovers it, a feeling of this is what she was meant to do coursing through her. it’s not the fighting ring itself; that is but the conduit for whatever this is that she feels.
above all, she recognises the girl, the one with the bloodshot eyes, watching from the shadows. always watching, never fighting. this, she knows, she’s always known, bloodlust-crazy or not. she doesn’t learn the extent of the other girl’s powers, ever. all she knows is her effect on the ring when she’s there. her opponents are stronger, faster, more vicious whenever she’s around, almost feral in nature and with the matching strength to boot. either way, jisoo learns to love the surge of white-hot adrenaline, the clamour for blood awakened in her whenever the girl’s around. she misses it, she finds, when the fighting ring is shut down abruptly, broken up into fragments of its former self and the girl disappears into shadow.
it must have felt divine, she thinks, to have been able to control the bloodlust. or perhaps she’s mistaken fear for elation; she’d hardly known the difference when the girl was around.
hangeng recruits her, to train her, as if her reputation as hellion has escaped them, even though she knows the only reason they’d heard of her was because of it. she’s not entirely sure if they know what they’re getting into.
they’re trying to tame the monsters, but she’s searching for hers.
MUTATION.
the ability to manipulate carbon – she can move, shape and otherwise manipulate all forms of carbon, such as changing it into various physical states and altering properties, including color, density, texture and flammability. she does this by restructuring carbon bonds to allow her to form carbon into different carbon-based matter, such as graphite or diamonds, using the carbon in her own body to supplement or break down these bonds or atoms.
STRENGTHS.
carbon construct creation – she can create constructs out of carbon from existing carbon materials, or rearrange the carbon in her body to create constructs that are part of or attached to her. the structural strength of her constructs will depend on her knowledge of the object she is creating and the degree of intricacy, and the more complicated it is, the more difficult it will be to create such a construct. the carbon she manipulates will retain its shape after the initial manipulation, as she is physically rearranging carbon and not holding it together through force of will.
carbon isolation and formation – she can isolate carbon in some cases and use it to form carbon-based matter. she can thus weaken carbon-containing matter, causing it to be susceptible to bending or breaking, or strengthen such materials by rearranging the carbon to fortify the material. she is rather much more skilled at fortitude weakening than strengthening other objects.
carbon dermal armour – she can also harden her skin by rearranging the carbon in her body to make it as hard as diamond or graphite. this allows her to be impenetrable for some period of time.
WEAKNESSES.
most of her carbon manipulation involves the carbon in her own body, and since there is a limited amount of carbon in a human body, jisoo typically cannot both create a construct from herself and also fortify her skin; she is unable to multitask and utilise both of her applications at once. moreover, because carbon is one of the basic building blocks of the human body, if jisoo manipulates too much of it in herself she could cause her body to shut down. thus, she has a limited supply of carbon that is readily available for her to manipulate.
her carbon dermal armour is not invincible; it can be destroyed with enhanced force or materials equally as hard as graphite. moreover, as mentioned above, the application of this strength takes away any other use of her ability.
outside of her own physical body, jisoo can only manipulate carbon in its most pure form, or at least a material that is 90% carbon, as she can only manipulate carbon and nothing else; for example, even though plastic contains organic polymers, the chains of carbon are likely to have the addition of other atoms that she cannot manipulate – ergo, she cannot manipulate plastic, or anything that is not made up of a majority of carbon atoms. trying to do so will result in structurally flawed constructs that are unlikely to hold their form beyond her initial attempt at manipulation. this is useful in fortitude weakening, as it unintentionally allows her to weaken objects, but fails to allow her to strengthen any object that is not carbon-based.
she cannot create carbon out of nothing – there exists carbon in almost everything, but she currently cannot isolate carbon that is bonded to anything other than that of her own body. thus, she cannot create carbon out of the carbon dioxide in the air or pull carbon from various living things and inanimate objects.
she has to be in physical contact with the carbon forms to be able to manipulate them; her manipulations are not telekinetic and she must be in contact with the carbon to rearrange the bonds or atoms. this is due to the way she manipulates carbon – using the carbon present in her body necessarily means she must be able to physically ‘transfer’ the bonds to or from the objects she’s manipulating, which requires physical contact.
her time limit comes more with fatigue than the use of her power; carbon manipulation for her is more like building physical things than any mental feat, which means she could theoretically engage her ability for an indefinite amount of time. however, like any ability she is limited to what her body can stand, and cannot continue using her ability when exhausted or if she uses up the carbon available to her.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, HWANG MINO !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-three, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +5, durability +4, agility +7, dexterity +4, intelligence +5. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
           O.
the cartography of his veins spread before his eyes: here, where he bruised in metronomes — here, where he fractured his vertebra — here, where he dissected his laments.
against the riverbed where stories run in rivulets of red, in the stream of incongruence, lies the corpse of a manmade construct. called it death. named it fear. at the end of the day, its soot is ripe and ruined in his fisted palm, leaving inked teeth marks in shades of dying black.
the night sky thinks about a carnage that dreams: in this story, the sequence wears a reverse order.
sometimes, he is a motel with a crooked figured chalked on the creaky floor. all those streaks of blood that they scrub so hard but the wallflowers still remember what they witnessed. all the wallflowers that wilted, when murder sprayed their dormant status with sins. also the bed where he thrashed, all simulated forms of unspoken words transferred into acidic non-verbal. and that bed sheet wearing new colors, the hue melting like waxwork with flames that attracted these fallen, falling moths.
he is also the thump. victim now on the plane; bloodshed is beautiful when you are made of this chaotic smoke, imprisoned by your glass ribcage. quite a vision, quite a beauty.
the wooden boards, the outline. and everything in-between.
( glass of half-full / empty water; tv playing static like sorrow. )
rest with me: i am an aftermath of this death, but i’m not in the coffin.                                                                                   ( i am the coffin. )
             I.
out of soft violence he bloomed: marigold and cinnamon, seeping through the interstices of mama’s cusps. she sighed, milkflower petals of her skin dripping in vigilant white as she shared the space of a husband’s with someone else. he was three, he remembers vividly. other colors of the spectrum spoke on the concave and convex of her features; she splintered in ways that he never understood between the grips of a man that was not his father.
membranes of his unfinished bedtime spillage carved memories like no other. he was supposed to be fast asleep, lost in the depth of cocooned safety in his crib. a watchful, taciturn witness to the event that unfolded before him, he always pretended that this was not the guilt that marred her face years later — that this was not the shame that spun the partiture of her elegies. against the gossamer edge of time, she would always be reminisced, another sway of chandelier against the stark ceiling of their mansion. this was the first beauty that painted the inglenooks of his memories.
first and foremost, insanity is hereditary, and so is sadness.
            II.
the child of threnody did not grow away from his mother; instead, he planted more seeds of lachrymose within the particles of his being, enveloped like chrysalis. the soothsayer across the street on an autumn day whispered to him little pieces of how to build a temple with his body, column per column, until he reached the sky shaped out of weary cultures and faded nebulas. spinal pillars stood against the horizon; he became acquainted with the after dark lullabies that ate away at his father’s core.
the difference was that his father was rotten with penumbra, while he soaked himself up in the act of liminal drowning. the similarity was that they both were too lost to be salvaged, feet tangled around the anchors.
he learned to love his mother in ways that she haunted his bones.
            III.
the incisors: to love was to hurt. he had teeth marks inked on his skin, with his aching marrows to prove his dedication. wrought in a burial was his flesh burning with forgotten maggots, rigor mortis veneering his architecture. this was the universe’s design; this fruit of deathless christening, this flower of seared capillaries.
the boyhood museum inevitably let him rest in this catacomb where mourning became the norms. here, he fell in the charm of death, its brutal hands wrapped around his neck with the weight of affection. it claimed him; it claimed his mother, then it claimed him. he learned to love it, too, in ways that he loved his mother.
he, however, had always known how to love the anatomy, the bones — he had always known the blueprint of humane edifices by heart. from the gentlest to the harshest, pound by pound, it called for his name. and he held their ideas inside him for the longest time, until they were no longer the same. until they, too, clattered into the rush of dissonance.
open battlefields were ribbons of suffocation, wisps inside his knots of an esophagus. but violent streaks ran nowhere but in his bloodstreams, rhyming the overture of sleepless hours spent on the longing.
            IV.
the revenants of revolution never skipped a heartbeat: there was always a lub-dub of life shivering underground. found himself stranded there before he, too, learned to love. and he loved, again and again and again, until he loved too much.
on the night three days before his eighteenth birthday, the moon hung itself like his mother did. stabbed and left for dead, their hatred mirrored his love — too much, too much, too much. he made a deal with the death for another paradox, promising that this time, he would learn to love better.
( in the end, he does not love better. death carved him into stalactites instead. )
            V.
the turpentine of twilight lures the deaths back to its morgue, sometimes in ashes, sometimes in commas – sometimes a period of crawling with smokes in-between. tattered teeth with keyholes and keywords, all rattling keys and sentences caught between the fangs, chewed up and spat out on the concrete. the start is always silent, the voices contained. in a room for two: housed between the flimsy walls would be him, bare to the skin to the flesh to the bones to the marrows. he drinks the quiet and lets it soak his blood vessels, veins and arteries creating a map like corrupted city streets.
nights are craters of the moonless dreams, deep enough to be called canyons. against the core of the bases would be arrhythmia waiting to happen. clasped to the soil would be footprints of indulgence – this is an elegy to addictions. every cursive of a movement creates a dynamic that he yearns so much, too much. every victory in the battlefield fractures the wasteland where he usually closes his eyes. wear and tear of the muscles and sinews, but here comes the marching sound of tomorrow; almost furtive, almost invisible. he doesn’t die tonight.
MUTATION.
darkness or shadow manipulation enables him to perform various tricks as long as there is the provided source of said element, which would be aplenty during the day and night. he’s able to mimic the darkness itself, using it as a means of transportation by opening portals through shadows, as well as producing offensive and defensive measures by solidifying the element, mostly by constructing weapons and shields. he can only use what’s available and enlarge it instead of creating it from full-fledged light.
STRENGTHS.
teleportation through shadows is what he primarily relies on, although this means that the shadows must not be too far apart — at four to five meters at the maximum in the distance, degree varying to his current stamina and energy. at this point in tier omega, he has yet to be able to merge himself fully in the darkness, so the transport is done via creating portals that he can dissolve into.
he can see in the dark due to enhanced vision, and this can be applied as seeing during the day. his sight is almost as perfect as it is in the light, although it could use some more honing. when new levels are unlocked, it’s possible for him to eventually see better in the dark than light. also, this application doesn’t require any adaptation.
umbrakinetic property construction via solidification of the element, and this includes weaponry to attack and protect himself with. solidified shadows work in the light as if it’s a solid matter as long as it’s been created to perfection by him prior to launch. this can also be used to trap people into their places by producing tendrils around the said people’s ankles, immobilizing his opponents.
WEAKNESSES.
up until this point he cannot create darkness out of nothing; there has to be sources, as small as they might be, to aid him during the expansion of darkness. he can make a small, condensed shadow into something bigger, but in the rare chances there isn’t any darkness at all, it will render his powers void.
distance of travel is limited, as teleportation through portals deplete his energy. it’s just faster than running, but it also consumes his energy as much as running would, just slightly less. when he’s exhausted, he won’t be able to perform this correctly, and there’s a possibility for him to be trapped within the portal for a few seconds.
moving shadows also prove to be troublesome towards his ability since it means that he might have to follow the shadows’ direction than his own. his teleportation also relies heavily on creating portal to portal from motioned shadows, causing this to be a hassle when it comes to reaching his destination.
he might be on par with light manipulators, depending on the opponent’s expertise. might find difficulties in adjusting his powers if all the shadows are erased via the light manipulation, which ends where he cannot perform his abilities at all.
while maintaining the solid features of the well-constructed items might not be a big problem, processing the dark energy to solid mass has proven to be a trouble for him, and it can take from below a minute for small projectiles like bullets, to up to five minutes to bigger weapons.
in the vein of inability to create darkness, while he can combine shadows to merge them into a bigger mass, but passing one shadow to the other via well-lit plane might exert more energy than necessary unless the shadows have been modified to be more solid.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, RYU TAEHO !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-six, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +7, durability +2, agility +6, dexterity +5, intelligence +5. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
new york. 1992.
the mutant community held their breaths for the birth of the second ryu-kang child. why wouldn’t they? you and your sister are born to two powerful mutants, who –– in spite of their success and fame and riches –– still remember their lowly beginnings and stand firm on their beliefs.
that no matter how much mutants had to hide, mutants will eventually co-exist with humans.
when you opened your eyes, the first thing you saw was your father. then your mother. then your older sister. they looked at you with delight because you can finally join them in this world. it’s a cruel one, but wordlessly, they promised they would protect you.
new york. 2005.
you take after your mother’s mutation, which she is thankful for since your sister inherits your father’s technopathy and she was getting a tad bit jealous.
after your power manifested, she didn’t even wait until the next day to train you. she taught you martial arts to equip you with the basic knowledge on how to manipulate your chi. as you grow older, your mastery of your power grow. you were becoming skilful and formidable.
alongside your physical training, your mother made sure you have a strong mind. it was a given that your parents would imbue you with their beliefs, even bringing you to meet their former headmaster, charles xavier –– the proponent for agape love for humans –– several times. however, for some reason, you knew your path would diverge from them.
new york. 2007.
you knew their ways are astray, yet you were drawn to them. it scared you initially; you felt as though you were committing an unforgivable sin for rebelling against with your family and xavier, but then you realised that you were exercising your free will.
these mutants at school dragged you into their escapades. it was harmless fun. you were simply teasing these petty humans so they would tremble at your feet.
(you’re superior and they’re nothing but insects.)
sure, somebody almost burnt a house down, crashed a car, and dropped people from great heights, but what do you expect from a group of teenagers who were just beginning to understand their powers?
new york. early 2018.
your parents didn’t understand. they asked you to explain, yet they refuse to believe you when you say you don’t share their sentiment regarding the humans. the way they looked at you changed. they no longer look at you with love, only fiery fury.
they isolated you in one of the other buildings they owned so you could atone on your sins. your father controlled the technology surrounding you to prevent outside contact. your mother blocked your chi to stop you from accessing your capabilities.
they visited you occasionally, hoping you would change your views, but you have made up your mind. as months turned into a year, they start viewing you as a lost cause.
(yep, you definitely committed an unforgivable sin.)
new york. late 2018.
it was your parents’ last visit. they announced the news with a heavy heart. they wished things could’ve turned out differently (you too), but the damage has been done.
seoul. 2019.
you don’t know if you can fulfil what your parents wanted. they want you to reach an epiphany that you do love humans after knowing what it is like to feel powerless at a foreign land where nobody knows the weight of your name.
jokingly, you tell your new classmates your parents ‘banished’ you to seoul. even if you masked your condition humorously, you were still hurt.
your mother gave you what she called a parting gift (although it felt more like a curse). she blocked a part of your chi to prevent you from reaching your full potential. she promised to unblock it eventually, but even then, how soon will that be?
MUTATION.
the ability to manipulate chi within the body in order to enhance strength, speed, durability, reflexes, and mind. at full potential, the user would be able to manipulate the natural energy of the planet, the cosmos, or other creatures.
STRENGTHS.
first and foremost, taeho is a formidable martial artist because he was trained since a young age by his mother. in addition, by manipulating his chi, he is able to enhance his motor skills, allowing him to pick up fighting techniques faster than normal humans.
taeho can direct his chi towards his attacks. often, he focuses his chi to his fists, giving them enhanced strength (at most, his punch could destroy a tank) and making them resilient and invulnerable (allowing his fist to deflect bullets). in extreme situations, his fists can even adopt fire-like qualities.
through meditating, taeho has the ability to slightly heal himself –– usually in the form of stopping the bleeding of his wounds and closing up cuts.
taeho can transfer some of his chi to inanimate objects, giving them explosive qualities. he often uses this skill to charge projectiles.
WEAKNESSES.
because his mother puts a block on his power, taeho cannot sense, let alone tap into, others’ chi or the planet’s and the cosmos’ natural energy –– he’s only able to use his own chi reserve. by extension, this means he cannot do any form of chi-blocking to another person as he cannot sense their chi.
taeho’s chi functions similarly to a battery. he doesn’t have the ability to generate new chi, so after strenuous use, he would need time to ‘re-charge’. if he is completely depleted, he’ll be out of commission for two days. this becomes a problem because taeho has the tendency to over-exert.
when taeho charges his fists, their strength and invulnerability vary. if he wants his fist to exert more force, then he requires more chi. if he wants his fists to be more invulnerable, he also needs more chi. if taeho’s fists adopt fire-like qualities, he can only do it once (for a duration of 15 minutes at most) before completely depleting himself.
due to his temperament, taeho exclusively uses his chi for offensive purposes (e.g. fighting, attacking) rather than defensive purposes (e.g. mind-melding, hypnotising people, etc –– with the exception of healing).
when healing, taeho needs to be meditating alone in quiet locations. also, he cannot fully heal wounds. the larger in size or amount his wounds are, the more focus and time taeho needs. taeho also cannot heal others, nor can he burn off poison or fix broken or dislocated bones.
to charge objects, taeho needs to have direct contact with them for 3 minutes and they can be no larger than a one-litre water bottle. he also cannot change the trajectories of his projectiles. this ability depletes a lot of his chi, so it is rare for taeho to use the skill.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, SONG HYERIN !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-two, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +8, durability +5, agility +6, dexterity +4, intelligence +2. currently, she is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
PART ONE: THE BEGINNING.
once upon a time, a phoenix was born, risen from the ashes of a relationship gone stale, flames lapping at the child who was too bold since birth, too brash and unforgiving for her abandoned mother to handle at such a young age. a teenage pregnancy was never a good choice, people had chided patronizingly, though hyerin’s mother’s never really cared about what people had to say in the first place, did she? her golden child, a spit in the face at all those who dared claim that her daughter was anything otherwise, even without the tell-tale father who had left the two even before she was born.
and so the phoenix grew older, still ever the charred and outspoken one, taking her classmates and everyone in between in such stride that no one could ever catch up to the girl on eternal fire. song hyerin, the child of the sole teenage parent of their small suburbia in karlsruhe, but still the sharpest of them all; stupidity seemed like such a menial option to grow under the woman who had gone through too much to raise her. in turn, hyerin vowed protection, and so came the staggered lessons of brute force — most wouldn’t dare assume such a pretty face as hers could shoot a gun or throw a punch as well as she could ace a multitude of tests at once; she’d easily prove them all wrong.
her name turns into a definition of something rare and unforgiving, blazing a trail in her way wherever she went. and so one year turns into two, and multiplies in fortitude. grade school comes and goes in a breeze, extracurriculars are what keeps her going. she picks up boxing and sharpshooting as a hobby as soon as her mother has enough to spoil her, and the two are happy, happier than they’ve ever been.
( karlsruhe continues to be kind to them — so far. )
PART TWO: INTERLUDE.
there’s a call from home. not the home hyerin has grown to know,  karlsruhe with its german speaking inhabitants and large and spaced grandeur, but where her roots show. seoul, south korea, where her mother ( and presumed father ) was born, the heart of hustle and bustle, bumping shoulders and other korean people who actually might look a bit like her. it’s not the language she’s worried about, no; such a thing is the least of her worries when her mother was so keen and adamant on teaching her ever since she was young. it’s the environ she’s afraid of, with its smog-filled cities and harsh glares. but then again, a sixteen-year-old hyerin can’t do much when it’s her mother than answers and accepts the call of a new start, and who is she to regret anything as of now?
touchdown in seoul, and no one is there to warmly greet the duo ( as expected ). life starts in the most mundane of ways, with her mother starting her new job at the new company, hyerin at her new school. turns out the star student is less of a star here, which bothers her none; hyerin simply tries much, much harder. but of course, her looks stay as stellar as always — a bright smile here and a coy wink there, and she’s finding her way around campus much easier, learns all the gossip, but it’s one flitted rumor that changes her life.
they speak of a boy who can play with fire without getting his fingers ( or anything else, for that matter ) burned about halfway into the school year, and hyerin is all ears. of course it’s a baseless rumor, she thinks, but perhaps it would be interesting enough to see someone being so steadfast as to actually incinerate his fingers off, what a sight to see!
hours after school does the incident happen, and she remembers the event like clockwork. a high five, that’s all it took — ten minutes before he was supposed to douse himself in lighter fluid and step into a fucking bonfire — for the boy to do just that: step into a bonfire in lighter fluid, but he stays burning, despite those high and mighty words that he wouldn’t.
and he screams. chaos ensues, though lucky for him, there’s still enough time to extinguish him ( who would have known what would have happened if not for emergency precautions, what a mess ) as he continues to screech for bloody murder. and as soon as it’s all over, he wheels on her with murder in his eyes, and hyerin has no idea what she’s done. it’s too late to even think however, because the next thing she knows, there’s a rough hand gripping against her throat, darkness coating her visage.
( she stays gone for a while, a long while. )
PART THREE: ROOTS.
she wakes up to unfamiliarity, discord in her thoughts. her expectations of stark white walls and a steady iv drip at a hospital environment are replaced with an oddly discolored wallpaper and a soft bed, nothing familiar other than a dull headache pinging steadily into her temples. her mother is the first person she seeks, another woman — unfamiliar at best — looming by her bedside is who she finds instead.
and so the unknown one explains the extent of hyerin powers — ‘powers’ said in the absolute lightest term — powers rather as in, what is not. negation is what she supposedly has; the nullification of others’, which explains the fire situation and the lack of extinguishment so well, the fact that she almost killed someone is the only thing that is left to simmer in her mind. and it’s no surprise she had no idea she had such an ability; surrounded by a bunch of humans that had none at all were useless to her, but what is to become of her now?
the newest freak show, that’s what she’s been dumbed down to. and now, lo and behold: said freak show placed in an academy with a bunch of other freaks — or was it ‘mutants’ that they called themselves? — who absolutely hated the very ability that had her grouped in the same stupid category that they were all in. the one girl who would take away whatever it was that made them special, a recipe for hate brewing in all their veins, curse her uselessness, a feeling that’s never been felt by song hyerin before.
and so ends the phoenix’s reign, simmered into nothing but a pile of hateful ash at the bottom of everything, missing only one person from her life.
( she’ll escape from here soon enough anyways, she swears on it. )
MUTATION.
power negation is the strata of power that is fully able to nullify those abilities of others, usually for an extended amount of time. the user is able to cancel out the powers of those around themselves, making them unable to utilize their powers so long as they are under the user’s effect.
hyerin’s ability, as she has newly manifested her powers, has the potential to be a complete hazard to those others currently attending the academy who require their powers to properly function. she  has virtually little to no control over her abilities, meaning that a simple graze has enough power to completely nullify a person’s ability for a duration from five minutes to almost five hours, depending on her current mood and health. the nullification can be activated through simple touch, or any form of skin-to-skin contact, though it is usually propelled from her hands or arms.   she is virtually immune to all, if not most powers that require close proximities or any sort of possession if the wielder is to be in her vicinity. her power is completely based on emotions; even without skin-to-skin contact, if feeling highly on-end and agitated, she may unknowingly create a negation barrier that may effect everyone around her for an extended duration of time in a ten-foot maximum radius around her. a calmer and more sober mood only limits her powers to those who have been in actual physical contact with her, as is the usual case when she is alone or in personal quarantine. even the slightest spike in temper or mood may be a potential danger to those around her, especially because she has no idea on how her powers work just yet. her radius is still small and limited, but as small as they are, may drain her on more than one occasion; oversleeping (in a rather comatose state) is not uncommon, as is the occasional bloody nose and splitting migraines that recur more often than not. the more stressors that are inflicted on her body, the weaker she and her power become, and due to that very reason, proper contact with many people at once is not highly recommended.
STRENGTHS.
barrier negation: unconsciously, the user has a force field around them in which superpowers are canceled in its vicinity. in hyerin’s case, it is uncontrollable and happens when in high-stress situations, which may either be both beneficial and detrimental in her experience.
because her ability is something that does not enhance her physically, she holds her strength in being able to fight and hold her ground in hand-to-hand combat rather than having to rely on special abilities like others may expect.
if another person is under the control of a power such as transmutation, she may able to negate the physical form they are afflicted by.
WEAKNESSES.
constantly active, and uncontrollable in hyerin’s case. this accounts for constant fatigue, as any sort of use of her powers is rather debilitating to her physical health due to its unknown levels of control, and therefore power.
hyerin has a very limited range of her negation field, where touch is the most effective and long-lasting. the field that she emits is weaker around the edges, and anyone in her field will know and feel the dampening, effectively rendering her ability useless when people can recharge outside of her station.
unlike power erasure, effects are mostly temporary at most. she has never been known to be rid of a person’s powers for longer than thirty minutes at a time when taking into account the initial contact. later, with more practice and intellect into the ability itself, the time may increase to longer hours, but at the expense of her physical health.
if a person’s power is attributed to their physical qualities, hyerin virtually has no power against them. she cannot simply make one’s cellular biology deplete, so if someone is enhanced with some sort of physiology she cannot just make the attributes disappear off a person’s body.
some powers may not be negated, such as negation immunity and power anchoring, as well as those abilities that have been acquired or copied (i.e. if someone had ‘stolen’ the ability of fire manipulation, she cannot dampen the effects of fire manipulation, but only prevent the person from thieving against an ability again).
power negation only has the ability to negate those powers past “normal” abilities. it is ineffective against those who do not use supernatural abilities in combat, or are naturally physically gifted.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, PARK JAEHWA !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-four, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +4, durability+7, agility +2, dexterity +4, intelligence +3. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
chaos breeds chaos and he is the product of such misfortunes; the bearer of souls, guiding them down a scarlet river of sin like charon. he is the hush of various elements breathed together into a delicate sigh, his every exhale being the parting essence of something mythical and magical. something most definitely enchanted. his every inhale being the ritualistic exchange between normal and abnormal energies. jaehwa’s holds darkness in his light orbs that settle center among his angelic features. he’s got the vines of dangerous anomalies tangled between bones of his skeleton, lingering below his skin; aberrant characteristics highlighted with the presence of all the ghostly figures only he sees. traits of a mutant disguised behind ebony strands and dark moon crescents below his gaze as they crawl under his flesh, marring his mundane reality with hues of terrifying power. power breeds corruption and he is not unfamiliar to this fate. death is the encompassing weight that gathers around his figure, resting just inches beyond the tips of his fingers as his nails tug onto the sleeve of a realm different of his own. he seeks answers, he seeks his brother, he seeks among the blanket of uncertainty an entity that can guide his heart home. instead, he is robbed of individuality as something decimates a myriad of his zealous ambitions. cruelty swallowing his pitiful cries, eyes slanted into pathetic orbs of dying stars as a world folds over and he is connected to an expanse bare of living essence. among the blackness he is found, between tombstones and their varying hideous displays as the affection of ghastly beasts cage him within their hunger. he is found talking to an absence, one that exists for his stare only. he’s rescued, nearly, if such a thing could exist in his world. there’s no refuge he can seek from his own mind or the crimson pulse of his thrumming heart that echoes loud before his punished form. there’s no escape, he’s confident. jaehwa tries to drown their whispers with the dissonance of melodies as they melt from his fingers and drift among the strings, hanging hopefully in the air. the desire of amalgamation with the pervading reign of security he’s never sought before. his imperturbable stance on life and its race drawing him back from the grips of any curing elixir. he assumes, eyes absorbing the saturated scenery teasing his ill-fate, that this too is of a transient kind.
MUTATION.
necromancy is the ability to speak with the dead or to raise them from their graves and is often implied to be the result of black magic or other supernatural abilities. it generally comes naturally and is difficult to control or command, but allows for insight and knowledge to be transferred from the dead to ta living spokesperson (necromancer). the process of actively taking part in the various rituals to raise or command the dead requires a lot of stamina and generally comes with more negatives than positives. when a spirit is speaking or acting through him, the necromancer’s gaze turns white, and when he is commanding bodies of the dead by raising them from their graves, his gaze turns black.
STRENGTHS.
locations are not a hindrance to his power as spirits of the dead linger everywhere and he is able to contact them regardless of where he is. however, certain spots can accentuate his necromancy skills such as graveyards or haunted areas.
he is able to take on the spirit, gaining access to their memories, knowledge and other insight. they possess him, but his power allows him to control them to an extent while also using the abilities they acquired when alive. this lasts for as long as he is able (generally only a couple of minutes).
with some focus he can summon a number of spirits instead of just one at a time, therefore making his ability buildable. the more he can hone into his senses, the more he is able to gain and control and draw forth for a conversation or assistance.
WEAKNESSES.
currently, while locations aren’t a hindrance, the setting still can be. he needs to be still and in a fairly focused and relaxed state to be able to control the information he wishes to seek and to be able to properly summon specific entities.
often times he is unable to control what he sees or hears and the spirits come and go as they please, commanding him unless he exerts significant energy to keep them away. while generally sedentary, he is still permanently haunted until he grows strong enough to block it out without excessive energy.
certain entities feed on his sanity and grip on reality the more he calls out or uses them. he is subject to dangerous altercations with aggressive spirits that wish to cage him in nightmarish sensations and visions.
although he sees ghosts quite casually, he does need to know the name and other details of specific spirits he wishes to summon, ones that can actually be useful to him. the more details he knows of the deceased person, the easier it is to find and contact them.
spirits can grow attached or latch onto the necromancer, haunting him for as long as they wish. there is no way, currently, for him to tell which spirits are like this to avoid, and it is difficult to get rid of their haunting.
it can take him nearly two weeks to recover from an intense summoning or summonings as these active conversations and interactions with the dead come with grave, mental and physical consequences. (they feed off his energy.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, ATITAYA “MAI”  SAKHAKON !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-one, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +2, durability +6, agility +7, dexterity +4, intelligence +6. currently, she is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
i.
click. click.
the sound of approaching stilettos on the glass platform was sharp and piercing, and she braced herself for the researcher’s ice-cold fingertips, eyes still sealed shut since four days ago. there was a pause, a slight delay that could have been mistaken for hesitation had she not known the cruelty of the lady standing before her, before she felt her skin being grazed slightly.
click. click.
the lady walked to the other side, uttering a sound of disapproval as she examined the monitors that beeped in unison with her breath. normally, this would be the time she was woken up, asked to perform impossible tasks, before being returned to slumber.
click. click.
the lady let out a loud sigh, her disdain clearer by each ticking second. there was some furious scribbling, before she took out a voice recorder and noted her fingers. “project mai: mutation anthropomorphic integration, subject #001. no observable changes. commence to stage forty-seven.”
there was beep and she walked off.
ii.
click. click.
the pen in the researcher’s hands clicked furiously as mai was subjected to a series of intense fights. the heavy wings they had attached to her back felt like an immense weight pulling her back. as she wiped the sweat off of her head, she launched herself at her opponent, hoping to catch him off-guard. or, well, at the very least spook him.
of course, it didn’t work. at the very last minute, he turned around, devilish smile on his face, as he lunged at her.
click. click.
the familiar sigh, yet again. “ project mai: mutation anthropomorphic integration, subject #001. failure to integrate with prototype cypher. commence to stage two hundred-and-one.”
iii.
the silence was piercing.
mai battled with her thoughts, wondering if it was some sort of punishment for her incompetence or if this was the end for her existence. she tried making some semblance of sound, her fingertips trying to move a little, but she was unable to.
iv.
she felt cobwebs growing on her limbs, dust settling over the chair, as she sat, waiting. the team of researches that had once hurriedly paced the whole compound had all disappeared overnight. there was no strange sound, nothing, that could have led to them vanishing.
mai decided that they had simply abandoned the project. that was the only viable explanation.
v.
click. click.
“dude, look at that statue”
there was something different about the clicking sound, and the voice that followed. mai had been in deep sleep, allowing herself to accept the treacherous fate that had befallen her. the voice was that of a young boy and his companion, filled with awe and disbelief.
“james, i don’t think that’s a statue.”
hesitance filled the other before he slowly voiced his opinion out, slowly inching away from mai. there was something too life-like about the way the lady sat on the chair that creeped him out… and he had ever reason to be afraid.
“is it a human? is she stuck?”
this time round, james replied with panic in his voice, and he tried to remove the tubes running across her entire body and the restraints that held her in-place.
“let’s just go, please?”
vi.
click. click.
mai stretched her, cracking the muscles in her body slightly as she opened her eyes, smiling brightly.
she was free.
MUTATION.
carefully grafted onto her back is a pair of large, white wings that has a wingspan of twelve feet (~360cm) when fully extended. this, primarily, allows her to fly and glide comfortably. as her wings are laced with traces of an alloy similar to adamantium, they can also be utilized defensively (as her wings can envelop her body to prevent attacks) and offensively (through the usage of feather projectiles). through extensive experimentation, mai’s bones are also incredibly light and hollow, allowing long flights of higher altitudes to be achieved.
STRENGTHS.
by using her wings that have a near-superhuman strength, mai is able to thrust herself upwards to a height of around 1700 feet (~518 meters) easily. if she pushes herself further, mai can reach a height of just over 2000 feet (~210 meters), although she is currently only able to glide at that altitude for a maximum span of 20 minutes.
her wings are able to regenerate quickly which makes them a great weapon-of-choice. with a sharp edge, the feathers can be used like throwing stars that can easily cut through thin materials.
her wings can also be used defensively, as a shield-like substance. due to the durability of the wings, they can deflect blunt forces and weapons rather easily, although she is unable to redirect the weapons back to the attacker.
WEAKNESSES.
a large weakness would be that her wings are permanently attached to her body, which makes them unable to be retracted or detached. this is incredibly bulky, and makes it extremely difficult to hide from humans or other mutants.
while mai’s bones are light and hollow, she does not have any special abilities allowing her to fly beyond her limits. this means heights of extreme pressure or extreme temperature are not feasible for mai to accomplish.
because her bones are lighter than the average human, the impact when she falls onto solid ground can easily cause a broken ankle or fractures.
much like her limbs, her wings are an extension of her body and can get hurt. this means they are able to bruise, bleed, and be immobilized, even in the middle of battle.
though she is unaware of this, if more than half her wings are forcibly removed (through powers or physical removal), she would slowly bleed out and die.
although she can regenerate feathers quickly enough to use them as projectiles, she has a limited number of feathers to utilize.

WELCOME TO XAVIER’S, KIM DOHYUN !
… loading statistics. currently aged twenty-three, entering first semester of xavier’s in seoul, south korea. decrypting files… mutant has the following records: strength +4, durability+3, agility +6, dexterity +5, intelligence +7. currently, he is classified under tier omega.
BACKGROUND.
From an early age, Kim Dohyun had always known that he was different; and not in the traditional sense. As a Korean child growing up in England, he had always known that he looked different, and maybe even acted a bit different than the other kids, but this feeling went beyond that; it alluded to something that went deeper than his families ethnic background. This suspicion of his had laid dormant in the back of his mind, until one day it finally decided to manifest into reality. While playing Monopoly with a group of friends, the eight-year-old discovered that if he wished hard enough, the dice would miraculously fall on the numbers that he had wished on. The first time it happened, he wrote it off as a fluke, something that his overactive imagination had conjured up. However, after the sixth and seventh times, he started to note somewhat of a pattern. It was at that moment where that sneaking suspicion began to morph into a terrifying confirmation; he was definitely different, and he needed to keep this a secret.
Eight years later, at the age of sixteen, Dohyun had known for certain who he was, what he was, and that he needed to hide this part of himself from his parents. They were traditional, and their beliefs had led them to believe that mutants were unnatural abominations that went against the will of their god. They had even gone so far as to moving the family back to South Korea after hearing one of their neighbors had a daughter who was exhibiting signs which they classified as “unholy, unnatural, and ungodly”. Without proper training, or a proper support system, he quickly found himself slipping into the “wrong crowd”. Under the cover of night, he would sneak out of their apartment and slink away to the underground casinos and gambling corporations run by the shady men and women who called the streets their home. His unassuming and innocent exterior worked in his favor, allowing him to manipulate and scam scores of individuals out of large sums of money. initially, he had only meant for these places to serve as a training ground, a place where he could test the limitations of his ability, however it quickly morphed into something more sinister. He became consumed with greed, finding pleasure in his ability to secure risky wins just by willing the odds in his favor. He felt good being in control and knowing that he had a certain control over those around him; it was a feeling more potent than any drug and he had become seriously addicted to it.
For years, he had a steel tight grip on the underground, eventually earning enough money to cut ties with his parents and move out of the oppressive environment that they had unknowingly created for him. It didn’t take long for news of his success to spread throughout the underground, and people began creating all sorts of explanations for his success. They began calling him Chance, the baby-faced genius with a golden hand, and Dohyun had absolutely thrived in the attention that he was receiving. Without his parents breathing down his back or the threat of ever losing any gamble, he lived his life recklessly and without consequence. He was used to getting what he wanted, when he wanted and thought nothing of the damage that he was potentially causing. However, living a life without consequence oftentimes yields consequences that are far worse than what one would expect.
Without proper training and only his own research and experimentation to back him, Dohyun never thought to explore possible outside weaknesses to his ability. He had seen himself as invincible and unbeatable, as evidenced by his perfect winning streak over the span of seven years. All it took was one moment of carelessness for his empire to come crumbling down. He became too overzealous, not taking heed of his weakening physical state. His opponent was a stranger, a mysterious individual who exuded the same cockiness and greed that fueled his spirit. No matter what pathway he chose, the odds never seemed to work in his favor, and for the first time in years he felt himself slipping. As his frustration grew, his control over his own abilities gradually began to decrease, ultimately rendering him useless against his opponent. Eventually he felt himself succumbing to the rage that welled up inside him; he knew that there was great danger in losing control over his abilities, and had he been in the right state of mind, he might have thought against aiming his anger towards those around him. However, Dohyun wasn’t in the right state of mind, he hadn’t been for a long time, and the last thing he remembered feeling was a terrible rumble under his feet before everything turned dark.
When he awoke, he found himself in what looked to be an interrogation room, sort of like the ones he had seen on television. It didn’t take too long for him to piece everything together, and he knew that he had royally fucked up. Dohyun knew that he needed help, which was what led him to confide in the officer that had walked in to question him. He answered all of their questions, even going so far as to explain more about his ability and all of the information he had gathered over the years. No matter how helpful and candid he was, he knew that it wouldn’t erase the damage that he had caused and the lives that he had ruined. After what had seemed like forever, he was visited again by more officers and officials who had regarded him with interest. A few moments passed before one of them spoke, offering him a choice. He could accept the legal punishment for the damage that he had caused over the past seven years, or accept an invitation to an academy, one that would help him learn to master the ability that had caused so much destruction. So, being a man who spent much of his life picking and choosing the paths that would benefit him the most, it was almost too obvious which choice he went for.
MUTATION.
Dohyun’s mutation allows him to manipulate probability, or the likelihood that certain things are to occur. This essentially allows him to manipulate the outcome of any given event or situation, so long as it is something that can feasibly happen. Probability manipulation also grants the user with the ability to see many different outcomes, essentially giving them a quick glance into a probable future. Until they have a better grasp on their powers, inexperienced users often use an aid (such as a coin or six-sided die) to help them understand their power; this allows them to learn how to control their abilities by training them to manipulate the outcome of the dice roll. Most inexperienced users are able to manipulate probabilities that have more than a 50% chance of occurring in real life with little to no trouble. As the ability is developed, users will eventually gain the ability to make more improbable events happen with less of an energy expenditure.
STRENGTHS.
As a result of the mutation, the user is able to view and calculate multiple different outcomes to any given situation, and essentially choose the most desirable path. In essence, the user can calculate approximate odds of multiple situations, allowing them to pick the route that is most beneficial to them/the scenario at hand
As soon as the user chooses a route or pathway, the effects happen almost immediately after the user wills for it to occur. As long as the user has the energy to expend, they can make multiple things happen at once.
When their power is used, the user is the only one who notices that a change has occured. The change seamlessly fits itself within the timeline, making it seem as if things were supposed to happen that way.
At their most powerful, users can spontaneously manipulate odds or outcomes at will. This grants them the power to shift ratios with low probability to having a higher probability.
WEAKNESSES.
In order for the user to cause or prevent a situation, the probability of it occurring in real life must be within a certain range. In order to cause an event to happen, there must be more than a 0% chance of it occurring in real life; and in order to prevent a situation from occurring there must be less than a 100% chance of it happening.
In order to change the probability of a given situation, the user must exert an amount of energy equal to the event that they are trying to prevent or create. Events with a less than 50% probability of occurring will consume a lot more energy than events with more than a 50% chance of occurring. In short, this makes it more difficult to make more unlikely events occur.
As this ability consumes energy, there is a recharge period between uses. Recharge time depends on the amount of energy consumed, meaning that it can vary between a few hours to several days (this is dependent on the situation that was altered).
While it is relatively simple for the user to change the probability of a future event, changing the probability of a past event proves to be more difficult. In order for the user to change the probability of a past event, that event has to be something that was witnessed by no other person but the user themselves.
The ability of probability manipulation has no effect on other users of the same or similar ability (abilities that fall into this category include certainty manipulation, uncertainty manipulation, etc.) meaning that if two mutants with the ability of probability manipulation were to face off against each other, the combined use of their powers would cancel out, making them powerless against each other.
In order to properly control their ability, users must be of sound mind and body. if the user attempts to access their powers while under extreme stress or during times of emotional instability, they have the potential to skew probability, which could possibly cause cataclysmic events.
Without control, this power is extremely unpredictable and extremely dangerous. Inexperienced users, or users who haven’t been properly trained may only be able to trigger events that have a limited number of outcomes. Essentially, this means that they would be able to change the outcome of something like a dice roll or a coin toss but wouldn’t have the ability to change the outcome of an actual event
