Thinking about university AUs for Usopp is so fun because he has so many interests and talents which give us so many possibilities!

If he went to an art school, I can see him majoring in animation, graphic design, drawing & painting, or illustration -- an integrated arts program would probably be best so he can do it all!

If he majored in engineering it would probably be in chemical or mechanical eng so he can build and invent

There are also ArtSci programs that combine the previously mentioned subjects, which would be cool for him

Not to mention he can major in botany or plant science programs!

I've also considered the possibility of him going to law school because of how convincing he is and also because it'd be hilarious

Usopp can easily major in any of the social sciences like sociology, psychology, and anthropology because of his natural interest and good relationships with people

Maybe he'd consider majoring in English or literature because of his love of stories

A theatre program would give him the chance to be on stage and learn about stage production and design

Szingapúr, Ázsia

Szingapúr Dél-Kelet Ázsiában található mini városállam. A világ egyik leggazdagabb állama. Azt olvastam róla, hogy igazi “all inclusive” állam, mert minden megtalálható benne: modern városrész felhőkarcolókkal, rengeteg park és közeli természet, tengerparti sétányok, luxus szállodák, plázák, piacok, Indiát és Kínát idéző negyedek, megelevenedik a kultúra és az ázsiai konyha gasztronómiája is.

A két hetes utazás utolsó - közel - három napját itt töltöttük el. Szeptember végén még javában tombol a 30 fok, így tudtam még szerezni egy kis színt felkészülve az otthoni őszi időre.

Az első nap reggelén repültünk Baliról Szingapúrba, kicsit hosszabb volt a repülőút, mint két óra. Nagyon vártam már Szingapúrt, sokat olvastam róla és igazán látni akartam ezt a várost. A repülőgépről leszállva először a Jewel Changi terminálra mentünk, mert itt található a világ legszebb és legmodernebb repülőtér terminálja. Egy több tíz méteres vízesés fogadja az ide látogatókat, amit egy dzsungelszerű kert vesz körül rengeteg fával, virágokkal. Szingapúr már a repülőtéren magasra teszi a mércét és még be sem ért az ember a városba.

Később metróval bejutottunk a városközpontba. Fura volt a Balin megszokott közlekedési labirintus után kötött pályás járművel utazni. A hotelben a recepciós lány tájékoztatott, hogy túlfoglalás miatt egy másik helyen lesz a szállásunk… Kicsit bosszús voltam, de szerencsére nem volt sokkal messzebb a helyektől, amit elterveztem, hogy megfogunk látogatni.

Miután lepakoltuk a táskáinkat és felfrissültünk, kora délután indultunk az első napi programra, ami a Forma 1-es pályabejárás volt. Nagyon szeretjük a Forma 1-et és két hete volt a Szingapúri nagydíj. Szerencsére a munkások nem dolgoznak túl gyorsan ezért még sok részt láthattunk az utcai pályából. A bíróság épületénél csatlakoztunk be a pálya nyomvonalra, majd áthaladtunk az Andersen hídon a Fyler (óriáskerék) irányába. A célegyenesnél még voltak lelátók, ahová be is ültem, dehát hiába vártam az autókat…

A pálya hossza 4,9 km így az első napra megvolt rendesen a napi sétaadag. A séta közben persze már láttuk a Marina Bay-t is, de annak a résznek a felfedezése a következő napra maradt.

A második napot egy botanikus kertben kezdtük, ahol a Fort canning tree tunnel-t akartuk megnézni. Ez a kert alatt futó alagút, spirál alakú lépcsős kivezető nyílással. Elég sokan voltak itt, így nem sok időt töltöttünk el.

Elhaladtunk a nemzeti múzeum mellett, közeledtünk a városközponthoz, ahol először szerettem volna bejutni két templomba, de egyik sem volt nyitva sajnos. A katedrális pedig jelenleg olyan rekonstrukció alatt áll, hogy itt sem volt szabad a bejárás.

A következő célpont a Merlion park volt, ahonnan már tökéletes kilátás nyílik a Marina Bay-re. A Merlion parkban áll egy oroszlános szökőkút szobor, de szerencsétlenségünkre ez is átépítés alatt áll, így alig vettük észre, hogy ott van. Nem tűnt eddig a pontig túl szerencsésnek a nap.

Sétáltunk tovább az öböl mentén a több mint 30 fokban a Gardens by the Bay felé, ami a következő állomás volt. Ezen a területen parkok, napenergiát gyűjtő mesterséges szuper magas fák, üvegház, kisebb patakok találhatóak. Fel tudtunk menni lifttel az egyik fa tetejére, ahonnan 360 fokos kilátásunk volt egész Szingapúrra. Nagyon nyugodt ez a hely, a város szívében, de mégis messze a zajoktól.

Az öböl kertek után a Marina Bay Sands observation desk következett, talán a legjobban várt nevezetesség. Az MBS Szingapúr jelképe szinte, egy három “talpon álló” luxusszálloda, aminek a tetején egy hajó alakú épület van. A hajó tetején egy infinity pool-lal.

A hotel legfelső szintjén található látogató központba lehet felmenni, ahonnan szintén belátni a várost és benne a Forma 1-es pályavonalat is. Az 56. emeleten voltunk és csodaszép volt a kilátás.

A hotel lába alatt a hely egy plázának is otthont ad, ahol elfogyasztottuk az ebédünket így már több mint 10 km-rel a lábunkban.

Még egy érdekes épületet megnéztünk a közelben az ArtScience Museum-ot, ami lótuszvirág alakú. A múzeum előtt van egy kis tó, aminek vízén szintén lótuszvirágok vannak.

Eléggé elfáradtunk késő délutánra és a napi látnivalók is elfogytak, így a villanyfényes esti séta előtt pihentünk a szállásunkon kicsit.

Este a Merlion parkból csodáltuk a várost:

A harmadik napon már nagyon fáradtak voltunk, két hete szinte mindig kirándultunk és mentünk valamerre. Erre a napra nagyon kevés látnivalót terveztem be délelőttre. Délutánra pedig pihenést és készülődést a hazaútra.

A szállásunktól nem messze található a Sultan Mosque (mecset) az Arab utcában. Kis terület tele arab éttermekkel, árusokkal, piacokkal és a mecsettel. Ez a városrész a szomszédos Little India területtel igazi Távol Keleti hangulatot kelt.

Folytattuk a sétát a Clarke Quay felé, ami folyami kikötő a város folyópartján. Tettünk egy kis kitérőt a Chinatown felé is, ami a Kínai életérzést nyújtja. Ezek a kisebb városrészek a felhőkarcolók árnyékában vannak, de szerintem elég jól visszatükrözik Szingapúr sokszínűségét.

Visszafelé a szállásra az Orchard Road-on sétáltunk - inkább vonszoltuk magunkat - ami a vásárlók kedvenc helye. 1,5 km hosszú útszakasz tele plázákkal, luxus butikokkal. Szerencsére Szingapúr elég drága, úgyhogy csak sétáltunk az utcán.

Éppen visszaértünk a kisebb zivatar előtt, így a délután a pihenésről - és blogírásról - szólt.

Este még tettünk egy rövid sétát a városközpontban, majd másnap indultunk haza.

Szingapúr nagyon tetszett! Igazi modern nagyváros, tényleg tele mindenféle lehetőséggel a kikapcsolódásra. Ha egyszer eljutok Ausztráliába vagy Új Zéland-ra választanám Szingapúrt átszállásra.

Hi there!

I am an incoming 105 first-year who has applied to Psychology at UTM, and is hoping for guaranteed residence as I’ve submitted my residence application before the deadline. I’d like to switch my program to Social Science at UTSG instead, and I was told by the Faculty of ArtSci that switching admission categories was not going to be a problem.

If I am admitted to Psych, what are the chances I could request/apply for a switch or internal transfer to UTSG Social Science before starting in the fall? Would I also be allowed to switch my residence application/admission to UTSG, and could I still retain my theoretical guaranteed spot, or would it be considered a rolling admission and I may not be offered residence? I understand I can apply as an Internal transfer with OUAC in November, but I am hoping to avoid having to take my first year in a completely unrelated program, and campus.

A flower-like image depicting the blood-retinal barrier in a mouse is now on view in the lobby of the Countway Library. This striking image, by Bryan Chow, a graduate student in the laboratory of neurobiology professor Chenghua Gu, is part of an exhibit of 16 images selected from among the 23 entries to the 2018 Quad Photo Contest.

The exhibit runs through October 22 and features images from research done on the HMS Quad in fields such as neurobiology, microbiology and systems biology.

Chow’s blood-retinal barrier image, which captured first place in the contest, magnifies the delicate network of blood vessels that nourish and protect the retina.

The vibrant second-place image, by David Brann, a graduate student in the laboratory of neurobiologist Sandeep Robert Datta, depicts a section of the brain’s cerebellum.

The third-place image, by Zoltan Maliga, a senior research scientist working with Peter Sorger in the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology, shows a tissue section of the human small intestine.

The photo contest ran from April 24 to May 30, providing an opportunity for HMS researchers to capture science at its most breathtaking and show the beauty of the microscopic worlds they study to their colleagues and the world.

After the three winners were announced in early July, their images were featured on the HMS Instagram feed and have garnered more than 12,000 likes. The images are also individually featured on the covers of the Autumn 2018 issue of Harvard Medicine magazine.

The contest was open to all faculty, trainees and students conducting research in the HMS Quad’s basic and social science research departments. Submissions were reviewed and evaluated by a selected panel of judges based on originality, visual aesthetics and scientific significance.

The contest and event were organized by Harvard Medicine magazine and science and media relations in the HMS Office of Communications and External Relations.
