Mysteries Of Iran Still Undeciphered
Tumblr media
TEHRAN - Iranian filmmaker Pejman Mazaheripur, whose new documentary on Persepolis was screened at the Cinema Museum of Iran on Sunday evening, says the majestic UNESCO-registered site still harbors numerous unrevealed mysteries.
Addressing the attendees during the screening of his film, Mazaheripur expressed his belief that despite extensive research and numerous documentaries about Persepolis, there remain untold stories and unexplored facets waiting for researchers and filmmakers to delve into.
“This documentary is part of the Ancient Iran series, initiated in 1396 (2017) and meticulously researched and compiled until 1400 (2021),” Mazaheripur said at the start of his presentation.
“Under the supervision of Dr. Shahrokh Razmjou, the documentary underwent rigorous research phases. The initial film covered the early explorations [conducted at Persepolis] up until World War II, with the second film focusing on the significance of Ali Sami, the first Iranian archaeologist who commenced excavations at the foundation of Persepolis.”
Mazaheripur also mentioned the Italian conservation efforts that led to the identification and preservation of various artifacts, now housed in the National Museum of Iran. “The third film encompasses Razmjou's studies on specific structures within Persepolis… along with an analysis of the intricate details on the eastern side of the Apadana Palace.”
Regarding the challenges faced during the documentary's production, Mazaheripur highlighted the abundance of pre-existing films focusing on Persepolis' Achaemenid era, emphasizing the rarity of productions dedicated to archaeological and historical analysis.
"I firmly believe that Persepolis still holds undisclosed secrets, leaving ample space for researchers and filmmakers," Mazaheripur stated.
Referring to his recent documentary, Mazaheripur said: “We intended to uncover it based on in-depth research. Editing consumed most of our time due to the details stemming from our comprehensive studies.”
Reflecting on personal experiences during the documentary's production, Mazaheripur remarked on the challenge of accessing historical visual documents from various sources but expressed satisfaction with the culmination of their efforts.
Also known as Takht-e Jamshid, Persepolis ranks among the archaeological sites that have no equivalent, considering its unique architecture, urban planning, construction technology, and art.
Tumblr media
Majestic approaches, monumental stairways, throne and reception rooms, and dependencies have made that 13-ha ensemble one of the world’s greatest archaeological sites.
Construction of its immense terrace was begun about 518 BC by Darius the Great, the Achaemenid Empire’s king. On this terrace, successive kings erected a series of architecturally stunning palatial buildings, among them the massive Apadana palace and the Throne Hall (“Hundred-Column Hall”).
The terrace is a grandiose architectural creation, with its double flight of access stairs, walls covered by sculpted friezes at various levels, monumental gateways, gigantic sculpted winged bulls, and remains of large halls.
By carefully engineering lighter roofs and using wooden lintels, the Achaemenid architects were able to use a minimal number of astonishingly slender columns to support open-area roofs. Columns were topped with elaborate capitals; typical was the double-bull capital where, resting on double volutes, the forequarters of two kneeling bulls, placed back-to-back, extended their coupled necks and their twin heads directly under the intersections of the beams of the ceiling.
"Narratives say that Persepolis was burnt by Alexander the Great in 330 BC apparently as revenge against the Persians, because it seems the Persian King Xerxes had burnt the Greek City of Athens around 150 years earlier". Actually Alexander the Great burnt the Palace of Xerxes,it were the Arab Conquerors who burnt down the city.

Bujang Valley Archaelogical Site (Kedah, Malaysia)
This right here is the oldest South East Asian civilisation.
It was referred to as Qalah (now Kedah) and was a proper civilization with a history of trade with Mesopotamia, India, and China.
The archaeological discoveries are rumored to stretch from the border with Thailand all the way to Penang.
There was a history of iron smelting as well and a presence of Hindu temples and Buddhist temples.
Malaysia aims to make this a tourist site on par with Angkor Wat and Borobudur. It's still shrouded in mystery. According the Malaysian archaeologists there seems to be more left to discover

open to all —crossovers & ocs welcome
"Welcome to the Museum of London! I'm Tom Natsworthy, and I will... I will be your guide today! I suppose."
Tom grinned and rolled excitedly up onto the balls of his feet, his hands folded neatly behind his blue Historian's coat as he addressed the museum's newest visitor. He was only an Apprentice Historian (and a lowly Third Level at that), but he was fortunate today; their unexpected guest had come at an off hour when all the other Historians in the guild had long gone home. Technically, he shouldn't be there either, because technically the museum was closed, but he was, and so was this visitor, and he could hardly let them poke around on their own without guidance or supervision. So naturally that left him to do the big Senior Historian Duty of guiding, and showing, and telling (all three of which he believed he could do very well if only anyone gave him the chance to, thank you very much).
Another little bounce. Tom cleared his throat and swept his arm ahead of them. "Well! Shall we get started, then?"
The Museum of London was expansive, one of the largest among all of the predator cities, Tom expected. From natural science to mysterious Old World tech, they had it all. Grand displays of ancient mummified animals in glass cases stood against the tall, stone walls and birds of all sorts (some taxidermy, some merely manufactured depictions of what they believed such creatures must have looked like) hung from the arched ceiling and swayed gently with London's movements. Tom pointed them out as they went, explaining the what, where, and when of each creature: This is what the Ancients called a 'bear', specifically a 'pan-da', which once roamed parts of Shan Guo before the Sixty Minute War... This was known as an elfant... This was a tiger... This was a massive, man-eating lizard mysteriously called a croc o' dials which used its great prehensile tail to... And so on, and so on. Each animal he presented with a muted, fidgeting sort of enthusiasm, as if struggling to strike a balance between professionalism, genuine interest, anxiety, and his delight at finally being able to play tour guide. But no exhibit seemed to fill young Apprentice Tom Natsworthy with quite as much glee as the one he brought them to next:
"...and this gorgeous creature is the blue whale. The most magnificent megafauna of the ancient world and one of the Museum's most impressive archaelogical discoveries!" Tom spread his arms wide. The exhibit was in part real skeletal remains from the tail to just behind the blow hole, and from blow hole to its broad, smiling face, it was painted fabrics and leathers, carefully stretched over a... mostly accurate wire sculpt. "Recent discoveries suggest that the blue whale was not, in fact, the scourge of the deep seas as previously thought. Instead, we believe it survived largely on a diet of small fish, sea insects, and salt, which it either pulled from the ocean's water or harvested from stones at the floor. The blue whale is a living— erh," Tom flushed pink, "was a living example of a gentle giant. My personal favourite, if I'm honest."
Still looking a touch embarrassed, Tom cleared his throat.
"Anyway! Those are the Natural Science highlights," he said. "Down that way we have Old Tech of the Ancients, and to the left there... Art of the Ancients, which, um, includes a small section for Old World gods, if you're interested, but... Well. Enough of my blabber, do you have any questions?"

The beginning. More or less.
Somehow, I always felt like a traveler. My inspiration for travel came with books, specially, with a wonderful tale full of adventures and life lessons... “Le petit prince” was, in a way, like a bible to me. So, at age 6, it was the first book I read, and ever since, I’ve been reading it every now and then, finding new and deeper meaning to every part of the story. Other books helped too, but this was my major inspiration.
My second source of inspiration came from my own family, with my father, my older brother, godfather and godmother as additional sources of motivation and curiosity for the outside world: who wouldn’t think of exotic adventures when looking at a picture of your own father climbing to the top of a snowny volcano? Well, I sure was smitten to take action.
And now, after some years of wandering around this world, I’m ready to tell my own story. Ladies, gentleman and lizards, these are my tales. I hope you enjoy them, as much as I did.
The picture below came as a first because it’s the older archaeological site I’ve ever set foot into, and its one of the least visited, protected or ever mentioned in archaeology books. Barely advertised, I only knew of its existence because I was literally, in the nearest village and it was on the way back to Yerevan.

Here with the Caucausus mountains on the back, watching over the Karahunj “Observatory”, near the village of Sisian in Armenia. 04/April/2022. This is an important archaelogical site dated back to the Middle Bronze Age, but its purpose was not clear: either the upstanding rocks with mysterious holes in them were part of a wall, part of a burial site or an ancient astronomical observatory. Maybe it was everything... but not at the same time? Well, in this picture, I took advantage of the view and used it for my very own purposes.

History of the Jedi
here we go
Contrary to popular belief, the Jedi didn’t start with Yoda, the Old Republic and the Jedi Council as a portion of the population believe. (Below are approximate dates)
Start date: Force is chilling out.
Before Kwa- Celestials
100,000 BBY- Kwa
Slightly after Kwa- Rakata
(some events from the above groups were happening at the same time)
36,000 BBY- Je’daii Order
10,000 BBY- Jedi Order or the Holy Order of the Jedi Knights
Luke’s Order (or as some say the New Order)
End Date: There really isn’t one.
Before the Order
Celestials are a starting point, well they’re going to be my starting point. They were also known as the architects. The Ones from Mortis (Father, Daughter and Son) were said to be related to the Celestials. The Celestials though could restructure and form new matter through the force. They are known in the galaxy for creating the Corellian System, Vulter System, Hapes Cluster, Maw Cluster, and the Kathol Rift. Centerpoint station, or the tractorbeam that could pulll planets around was also created by them. All races were considered slaves to the celestials, since there isn’t much information on this species we don’t know if this was voluntary or involuntary at the begining. They were called Client races so its a little iffy. It was said that the Celestials were higher force guided events in the galaxy. Eventually the Rakata uprised against the celestials after stealing the Kwa’s technology killing them. Some say that Abeloth or the Bringer of Choas may have caused there demise.
The force is the begining of all users no matter what form they take. The Kwa were a species from Dathomir. They created infinity gates that allowed them to transport interstellerly to other places. Star temples were created around teh gates to protect them from unwanted visitors. The gates were inspired by the Celestials. The ones are supposedly related to the celestials. The Celestials though could restructure and form new matter through the force. They are known in the galaxy for creating the Corellian System, Vulter System, Hapes Cluster, Maw Cluster, and the Kathol Rift. The Kwa eventually used a gate to go to Lehon, the home of the Rakata. They sensed the Rakata were strong with the force and trained them or tried to. The Rakata turned on the Kwa and went to war. Eventually the Kwa, defeated would retreat back to Dathomir or Tython. The ones who returned to Dathomir physically devovled into the Kwi. (Think of blue from Jurassic World.) They were also known as the Blue Desert/Mountain People.
The Rakata were a cannabalistic evil race that didn’t want anything to do with the light. They relied on the dark side and turned on the Kwa, creating their Infinite Empire which was the first real govenrment. You may not have heard their name before but you surely know of Star Forge. It’s the biggest shipyard created by the Rakata in 30,000 BBY. It channeled the dark side and produced ships and weapons for the empire. This structure was built the only way everything else was built, through slave labor. The Rakata used the force as a hyperdrive to travel. Using this technology they reached over 500 planets that held force sensitives. (Hyperdrives weren’t invented yet, this was a precursor to the hyperdrive.) We wouldn’t see a man made one untill 25, 053 BBY. By 25,200 BBY the Rakata Empire was no more, they broke out in civil war causing their own demise. What’s worse is, they began to lose their force connection from a mutation during a plauge that killed almost all of the species itself. The Rakata that were left returned to Lehon where they broke out into another civil war, killing almost everyone. Those left alive spilt into various tribes and devolved mentally, retreating underground. They could no longer use their own technology because of their past reliance on the force. One tribe called the Elders remained intact and on the surface. They wanted to cleanse their history by destroying the Star Forge. They also no longer had the force but with the timely arrived of Revan they thought they could destroy it. This was 3959 BBY For many years it wasn’t destroyed and Revan used it to basically start the Jedi Civil War. Once Revan was redeemed he allowd the Galactic Republic to destroy the Forge.
The Rakata is always remembered for their military and technology feats. Planetary archaelogy and xenoanthropology professors were fascinated with the species because they changed the galaxy. Only a few groups survived and many ruins where they once held dominion.
Other species at this time: Celestials, Sith, Duros, Killiks, Sharu, Hutts, Columi, Taung, and Humans. Note: The Sith here aren’t what we know them today. They were a species from Korriban. They did have a predisposition to the dark side of the force and eventually an empire before being ruled by Dark Lords aka how we know them now.
Old Order
I think the best starting point here is Tython. The force was always there and many species including the Gree, Kwa and the Rakata vistied the planet. The Tho Yor, a class of 9 triangluar shaped ships brought various species to the planet. These ships came from Ando Prime, Manaan, Kashyyyk, Dathomir and Ryloth. There is no indication who sent the ships. All the species that migrated to Tython established the Je’daii Order. They based their teaching on balance from Tython’s two moon Bogan and Ashla. Eventually Tython itself became unsafe for non force users and the people known as the Tythans spread other worlds of the Tython system.
They also established a code of conduct The code was: There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no fear, there is power. I am the heart of the Force. I am the revealing fire of light. I am the mystery of darkness. In balance with chaos and harmony, Immortal in the Force.
Each ship sat at a different region of Tython and around them the different species built temples.
Regions:
Thry in the silent desert- Qigong Kesh- Temple of Advanced Force Skills
Masara- Bodhi- Temple of Arts
Kato Zakar- Stav Kesh- Temple of Martial Arts
Deep Ocean- Mahara Kesh- Temple of Healing
Talss in a Chasm- Anil Kesh- Temple of Science
East in the volcano top forges- Vur Tepe- Temple of Matallurgy, Tool and Weapon Construction- The first lightsaber dubbed the ‘first blade’ was made here but lore is very hush hush on it. We know the weapon master made it. Before this time they use metal sabers with no crystals.
South- Kaleth- Temple of Knowlege
Location unknown at this time- Padawan Kesh- for the children too young to become padawans.
Tower Monolith- Akar Kesh- Temple of Balance
There was peace for 10,000 years. In the year 25, 805 BBY The Despot Wars waged by powerful Queen Hadiya from the world of Shikaakwa to conquer the entire Tython System began. Fortunately for the Tythons, they had a sleeper agent who killed the Queen and the war ened quickly but not before there were a hundred thousand Tython casualities and a million casualties from the Despot Army, with many lost and thousands injured, tensions remained on the higher end for near a decade. Twelve years later they faced the Rakata Empire and shortly after that The Force Wars or the First Great Schism began (around 25,783 BBY.) Master Daegen Lok, the samae sleeper agent that killed Hadiya fell to the dark side after having a vision of war. The Je’daii Council exiled him but his followers didn’t agree with the with the decsison and turned against them. The force war lasted ten years and the light side prevailed. Light side and dark side users were pitted agaisnt each other. A holocron from the Kwa told the Je’daii how to weaponize the ships against the Rakata Empire Flesh raiders who are a subspecies of the Rakata inhabited the planet. They were abandodned after the Force Wars. A temple was erected near the fallen Kaleth temple and was the base for the Jedi for many years. In 25, 783 BBY there was a clataclysm that destroyed the Tython biosphere and the Ashla or light Jedi fled to Ossus 730 and established the Jedi Order or the new order, and Bogan or dark Jedi fled to the rim.
New Order
The Jedi as we know it today started on Ahch-to by the Prime Jedi. Not much is known about this Prime Jedi other than he had a cool title. In TLJ we see a mosaic on the floor of Ahch-to’s temple or tower of the Prime. The picture resembles what could be the Zeffo from Jedi Fallen Order. Ahch-to isn’t the only place the new Jedi Order stayed.Tython, Ilum, Ledeve, Vrogas Vas, Jedha, Ossus, Dantooine, Ashas Ree, Coruscant, Lothal, Devaron, and Yavin IV were home to other temples. Tython, Coruscant, Ossus and Jedha were are considered as the starting place but it was decided Ahch-to would house the first temple. Fun fact: Many Jedi temples were built on ancient Sith shrines to show that they were being cleansed of the dark side. The Jedi Order was based off of the Je’daii Order. Ilum became utilized by the Jedi so padawans could find their crystals to complete their lightsabers in a ceremony called The Gathering. (I would like to point out that Ilum is no more because it became Star Killer base. I see a lot of people talking about how Rey went to Ilum to find a crystal for her new lightsaber. Well it was turned into the First Order base, then blew up so...)
After the Force Wars the ways of the Je’daii through teachings of balance were abandoned. The Ashla Je’daii became known as the Jedi and the Bogan became known as the Sith. The Galactic Republic or the Old Republic came together with the help of the Jedi. There was peace for a long time but as always it would come to an end. Jedi Masters Cala Brin, Garon Jard, Rajivari and Ters Sendon are the ones who basically founded and ran the new order. They thought it was their duty to assist those in need and defeat dark side users. Rajivari and his followers eventually turned to the Bogan ways. During the Hundred-Year Darkness or the Second Great Schism the Sith were established. The Jedi and the Sith fought each other but the Jedi were backed by the Republic and Sith dwindled. The remaining Sith went to Korriban and Ajunta Pall became the first Dark Lord. The new temple was moved to Coruscant. This happened 5000 years BBY. The Jedi of this time fought to maintain peace and freedom. The Jedi seemed to have many conflicts with Mandalore. They attcked them quite a bit. I think their main goal was to go after the Darksaber as it was a mandalorian Jedi who constructed it. After this the Jedi-Sith War (2000 BBY) came about. Basically this was the Sith making their stand and coming back. They wanted control. This war lasted 1000 years. The sith were once again defeated and Farfalla who was the highest ranking Jedi to survive gave Galactic leadership to the people. Unkown to the Jedi and the Republic, the man once known as Dessel or as we know him Darth Bane, survived. He created the Rule of Two. I think with the Rebuilding of the temple on Coruscant we finally arrive to what we see in the Prequel Trilogy.
This was the new code:
There is no emotion; there is peace. There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no passion; there is serenity. There is no chaos; there is harmony. There is no death; there is the Force.
The Jedi were responsible for maintaining law and order, usually through mediating conflicts to bring about peaceful solutions. When this didn’t work Aggressive Negotiaions, (ty Padme for giving us the lingo!) were used. The Jedi were also responsible for various rival factions and planets as well as serving as a type of interplanetary law enforcement. They pursued wanted and dangerous criminals, pirates, and smugglers on missions. At the temple there were various stages the Jedi followed.
Jedi Initiate (Youngling,"Jedi Hopeful") a Force-sensitive child. At a very young age, children were removed from their families and assigned to the Jedi Temple for training.
Jedi Padawan – an apprentice who began serious training under a single Jedi Knight or Jedi Master. In order to graduate to Padawan status, an Initiate was required to be chosen by a Knight or Master and taken as their sole pupil. If a youngling was not chosen to be a Padawan by 13 years of age, the youngling was placed into another, lesser role in the Jedi Service Corps, or they could choose to leave the Order. Depending on where the student's talents lay, this might be the Agricultural Corps, the Medical Corps, or the Exploration Corps. Padawans who were of a haired species typically wore a long braid of hair behind their right ear. When a Padawan was elevated to Knighthood the braid was cut during the knighting ceremony.
Jedi Knight – a disciplined Padawan could become a fully trained Jedi once they completed the trials. The known trials were, but weren't limited to: the Trial of Flesh, the Trial of Courage, the Trial of Skill and the Trial of Self (also known as facing the mirror, cough rey in TLJ cough.)
Jedi Master – a Jedi Knight who showed great understanding of the Force and managed to instruct a Padawan and train them successfully to the level of a Jedi Knight. This title could also be achieved through the performance of extraordinary deeds.
Counsellor  – A very few Jedi were invited to serve on the Jedi Council, the governing body of the Order. The Council was made up exclusively of wise, experienced Masters. The only Jedi Knight to be appointed to the High Council, Anakin Skywalker, was appointed by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, although he was not granted the rank of Master simply because of this. The Council was made up of 12 masters, five of them with life terms and two of them designated as "senior", four as long-term, and three short-term.
Grand Master – The highest rank of the Jedi Order was that of Grand Master. Yoda was once the Grand Master, as was Luke Skywalker following the Swarm War.
Enter the clone wars. I don’t think I need to talk about them since we know about it. The end obvisously is Order 66 and the rise of the Empire became real. The Return of the Jedi started with Luke as we know from the films. He was hailed as the ‘last of the Jedi’.
Then there is Luke’s order which we don’t have a lot of info on at the moment other than he started teaching force sensitives  and Ben wrecked everything lol. In legends Ben is actually Luke’s and doesn’t go dark side and lives while Leia and Han’s twins Jacen and Jaina and their youngest Ani trained with Ben. Jacen falls to the dark side and becomeds Darth Caedus. Jaina remained a Jedi and Ani sadly died. How many Jedi are there currently? Well Rey for sure. Finn looked like he had something going on at the end of the sequel trilogy. Cal may still be kicking. And there’s broom boy.

hey ghouls ! i’m annie, she/her in pst, and i’m happy to be here. i’m just throwing all my intros under one cut so that it’s all together. let’s all go for a ride through my messy brain.
Tumblr media
Was that [ NICK ROBINSON ]? Oh no no, that was just [ MASON ‘DIPPER’ PINES ], a [ CANON CHARACTER ] from [ GRAVITY FALLS ]. They are [ TWENTY ] years old and [ ARE ] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
how long has your character been here? - dipper has been here for awhile, as long as his sister mabel of course. ( i will discuss this with mabel's mun to get an exact amount of time. ) but he's been here long enough to understand that he doesn't exactly belong there. what is your character's job? - he's a college student at the moment, studying archaelogy, but also has a conspiracy podcast that he runs entirely himself. because.. he's dipper pines. where has your character been pulled from in their fandom? - it's been awhile since the events in gravity falls, but dipper still thinks about it constantly even in his later age. he pines ( heh ) honestly to go back and be with his gruncle stan + the wonders of that town. it just felt like that was where he always belonged. though dipper does have some residual night terrors from what happened there, including the deal with bill, and he has to try to work through it while in dc. has any magic affected your character? - not directly affected, but it has made dipper's curious nature come out once more. another mystery for him to solve.
Tumblr media
Was that [ MICHIEL HUISMAN ]? Oh no no, that was just [ JESSE MCCREE ], a [ CANON CHARACTER ] from [ OVERWATCH ]. They are [ THIRTY SEVEN ] years old and [ ARE ] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
how long has your character been here? - a little bit over a week. he's adjusted quickly though. what is your character's job? - jesse is working as a mercenary, basically a gun for hire, since that is what he was doing in his past life so he stuck with what he knew. where has your character been pulled from in their fandom? - if you aren't familiar with overwatch lore, i won't try to bore you too much with it - but jesse is coming straight from a time after overwatch, and his division blacwatch, has fallen. he was working as a vigilante in the world - basically doing anything for money even killing, because his name means something. has any magic affected your character? - not particularly.
Tumblr media
Was that [ DANIELLE ROSE RUSSELL ]? Oh no no, that was just [ ELEVEN ], a [ CANON CHARACTER ] from [ STRANGER THINGS ]. They are [ EIGHTEEN ] years old and [ ARE NOT ] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
how long has your character been here? - roughly about a month. what is your character's job? - waitress at a waffle house. where has your character been pulled from in their fandom? - eleven had just been returned to her friends, the one people that were her family, before getting ripped tot his time. she doesn't remember any of them properly except that she knows that there are people who are looking for her somewhere. but she remembers bits and pieces of what happened to her. just more confused than anything. has any magic affected your character? - she still has her powers and is just trying to figure out how to use them without blowing up stuff which she has, many times before. though it does make her powerful when she's a little clueless.
go ahead and drop this a like or message me if you want to plot! especially for the event because i just joined right before a fun event. kith kith.

Brainstorming
Peeling the onion: E.g ‘i like plants’ is an outer onion layer statement, then, asking ‘what is it about plants that i like>i like the structure’. The more you question, the more you can express the subtleties to arrive at the nucleus of the idea
Eagle eye: zooming out of the idea to see the context. Ask yourself how others may receive and perceive my art, what context it sits in, how else can I visually and/or conceptually communicate my intentions? Put yourself in the viewer’s shoes.
New equations: force yourself to work with new material, change the pace of working, try a new method.
Investigating: chip away at researching, ask people questions, find evidence, start in visual diary, order the steps.
I found Gil Yefman who weaves plastic sculptures.
Experimentation:
- cutting > melting > stretching,
- melting and placing objects into it
- melting then flattening and weaving
- mixing blue, black and green to create marble-like patterns
- black, blue, purple or other dark colours
- gold, silver
- white and/or clear > can objects be seen inside the clear plastic?
3-5 Values:
+ environment
+ Aesthetically pleasing forms (organic preferred)
+ human rights
3-5 Motivations:
+ Nature as provider and inspiration
+ play
+ curiosity
+ intrinsic
+ happiness
Catalyst:
- The copy
-same form/diff material/new scale/same theme or opposes the original in some way
-create a hybrid of two concepts
-investigate the reflection, the shadow
Existing ideas:
-1 standing leg bone sculpture, grand scale with perforations and organic crack lines
-Room full of fibreglass skulls diff scale and random composition
- Woven plastic to create large suspended structures that resemble bones. living plants inside.
Knucklebones brainstorm
+The game (Jacks): rolling, collecting, friendship, leisure, playful yet eery, nostalgia
- Large knuckle bone structures, cloudy/foggy with small bits of nostalgic objects inside. Leggo? Connectivity and playful ...
-can the large knuckle bone structures collide and make a plastic sound? I loved hearing this sound when I was little and played with the plastic set of knucklebones

Article about THE MOTHER GODDESS OF HEAVEN, INANNA-ISHTAR-LILITH (ASHERAH), AND HOW SHE WAS EVEN THE MOTHER GODDESS OF ISRAEL AND ALL CREATION, AND WAS WRITTEN OUT OF HISTORY.
They worshiped Her under every green tree, according to the Hebrew Bible (what Christians call the Old Testament). The Bible also tells us Her image was to be found for years in the temple of Solomon, where the women wove hangings for Her. In temple and forest grove, Her image was apparently made of wood, since monotheistic reformers demanded it be chopped down and burned. It appears to have been a manmade object, but one carved of a tree and perhaps the image was a stylized tree of some kind.
The archaelogical record suggests that Asherah was the Mother Goddess of Israel, the Wife of God, according to William Dever, who has unearthed many clues to her identity. She was worshiped, apparently throughout the time Israel stood as a nation. In many homes, images like the one above decorated household shrines.
Who was She, this lost Goddess of the Hebrews? And why is She no longer worshiped in the Judeo-Christian religions of today?
The Asherah votive emphasizes Her breasts, suggesting Her role as a fertility goddess, but Her stance represents Her nature as a mother in general. She no doubt aided in the concerns of mothers, including conception and childbirth, but was probably also the mother of all, a comforter and protector in an uncertain world. Inscriptions from ancient Israel tell us that Yahweh and “his Asherah” were invoked together for personal protection. Her identification with trees suggests that Asherah was, in effect, also Mother Nature — a figure we remember in our language, but unfortunately have lost as a part of our mainstream religions. She was, in other words, everything you would expect from the feminine half of the divine creative duo, a Great Mother.
Asherah’s image was lost to us not by chance, but by deliberate action of fundamentalist monotheists. First Her images were torn down, then Her stories were rewritten, then Her name was forgotten. In fact, Her name appears 40 times in modern translations of the Bible, but not at all in the first English translation, the King James Bible. Since no one knew who Asherah was anymore in the 17th century when the King James Version (KJV) was being created, Her name was translated as groves of trees or trees or images in groves, without understanding that those trees and groves of trees represented a mother goddess.
When archaeologists unearthed a treasure trove of Canaanite stories and other writings in Ugarit, in modern day Syria, they discovered that the mysterious “Asherah” was not an object, but a Goddess: the mother goddess of the Canaanites. When archaeologists discovered Her in Israel as well, a whole new picture of early Hebrew religion began to emerge. The argument is straightforward: 1. Asherah was a known Canaanite Goddess, the Mother Goddess and wife of the Father God. 2. The name is mentioned repeatedly as having been worshiped by the Israelites, to the dismay of monotheists. 3. Her name is found in inscriptions with Yahweh and 4. A mother goddess image is found frequently in the homes of ancient Israel. 5. She was worshiped, according to the Bible, in the woods with Baal AND in Yahweh’s temple. The common sense interpretation is that Israelites worshiped the mother goddess Asherah. And that She was the wife of whichever male God had the upper hand at the time: El, or Baal, or Yahweh. Israelite religion was not much different from Canaanite religion. The gods vied for supremacy, but the goddess remained.
Since archaeologists in the Holy Land tended to be religious and to enter the field of biblical archaeology in order to unearth evidence substantiating the Bible’s story, it has taken awhile for the plain truth to become clear. Gradually, however, more objective archaeologists, such as Dever, are making headway in proving Asherah’s case. The Bible says Hebrews kept worshiping Asherah; the archaeological record confirms it. What the Bible doesn’t say, and the archaeological record shows, is that Asherah was a mother goddess.
In Ugarit, She was known as Athiratu Yammi, She who Treads on the Sea. This suggests She was responsible for ending a time of chaos represented by the primordial sea and beginning the process of creation. The Sea God, or Sea Serpent Yam is the entity upon which She trod. In a particularly bizarre and suggestive passage in the Bible, 2 Kings 18:4, one monotheistic reformer, pursuing the typical course of smashing sacred stones and cutting down Asherahs records this additional fact: He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan.)
Um, say what? This odd passage opens up a whole can of worms for me. Here are the serpent and the tree being worshiped together. (Garden of Eden anyone?) So, ah.. what exactly were people doing out there in the woods? They were worshiping idols, of course, burning incense, we are told. This passage from Hosea is instructive: Hosea 4:12,13 condemns those who “inquire of a thing of wood,” suggesting they were asking questions of an oracle, and who sacrifice under oak, poplar and terebinth “because their shade is good.” They are accused also of playing the harlot, which could be a reference to sexual activity, or simply an analogy in that the monotheists are claiming the people sold out to the “false” Canaanite gods. Israel was considered the bride of Yahweh in monotheistic thought, so worshiping other gods was whoring after them.
These passages make sense when you understand that this tree symbolism is closely connected with Asherah. Now we know She was worshiped in the wood, with an image made of wood and that people sought knowledge and made sacrifices there.
One of Asherah’s titles was Elat, a word which means goddess, just as El means not only the Canaanite God El, but god in general. Interestingly, the word Elat is translated in the Bible as terebinth, a large shade tree found in Israel. A great deal of the time, God is a translation not of Yahweh, his particular name given to Moses, but of the Hebrew name Elohim, which is plural, gender neutral, meaning “gods.” This word is also related to the word for oak tree. What did it really mean to the ancients to worship in a grove of trees? To see the gods as like the oaks? The goddess as a green tree spreading Her leaves over the worshiper, providing shade in a hot country?
Hebrews were not alone in worshiping gods of the forest, of course. Celtic, Greek, and Germanic peoples also worshiped in groves. Their gods were gods of nature. Were the Israelites really so different?
In the Bible, Elohim created a man and woman. Now that we know the monotheistic veneer of our bible doesn’t quite represent Hebrew religion on the ground (what William Dever calls “folk religion” as opposed to “book religion”), lets take a closer look at our creator:
Genesis 1:26:
“Then Elohim said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’
So Elohim created man in his own image, in the image of Elohim he created them; male and female he created them.”
Takes on a whole new meaning, doesn’t it, when you become aware of the Mother Goddess being worshiped next to God in every home and under every green tree in the forest groves? Who is this “US” doing the creating? Well, evidently, the creator(s) is/are male and female, like the creatures he/She/they created.
Now move on to a later passage, in 1 Kings 18: 19 , which makes it clear that Asherah was served by 400 prophets. This is no minor religion. Maybe when the prophets complained She was worshiped under every tree, they meant it. Every tree, every home, and also, sometimes, in the temple.
In Exodus, we are told that God warned the people to get rid of Asherah’s emblems when they conquered the land of Canaan; in the periods of the books of the Judges and the Kings, we are told that the “good” prophets, kings and reformers continually had to burn and smash the idols of Asherah; finally, in Jeremiah, we are told that worship of Asherah has resulted in the fanatical monotheistic God’s decision to wipe out Israel and Judah (the southern portion of the formerly united kingdom) via the invasion of outside peoples. The thing is, we are told most of these things by a single author, or group of authors: the Deuteronomist. This is a character (or possibly group of characters) writing and rewriting portions of the Bible in later days, around the 7th century BC, either just before or during the exile of the Jews to Babylon. According to the Deuteronomist, the priest Hilkiah claims in 2 Kings, chapter 22, to have “discovered” the ancient laws of Moses during temple renovations. These writings, “The Book of the Law” were mysteriously mislaid leading Israel to get its religion all wrong, apparently.
The works of the Deuteronomist conveyed a story that the Israelites had a covenant with Yahweh to worship him and only him. He claimed the Israelites had taken Canaan by force through a holy war in which they massacred the original inhabitants, putting to death (by God’s command) men, women and children in Jericho. (This claim is not supported by the archaelogical record.) And he claimed that God was a jealous God, one who demanded to be worshiped alone and who would punish the unfaithful by bringing other nations to conquer them if they worshiped others.
Was this really the religion of Israel? Apparently not. The common folk kept right on putting up their Asherahs in the woods and the temple and the little votive Asherahs in their home shrines. Only after Israel was conquered and the people of Judah returned from exile in Babylon did the fundamentalist fanatics with their violent, patriarchal, monotheistic God win the argument. The Deuteronomist’s work, along with the works of two other primary authors, the Yahwist and the Elohist, were compiled by a fourth source, called the Priestly source, to become the Bible we have today.
Asherah, tree goddess, mother of life, was lost. Truly, we were cast out of the Garden of Eden by Yahweh, or at least, his supporters. Separated from the Tree of Life, our mother, we flounder like orphans. America’s religiosity is more comparable to Iran’s than to that of Western Europe, where Yahweh’s religion is in decline. Is it coincidence that we, the worshipers of a male warrior, spend our money on war while children are allowed to live in poverty without health care? Worshipers of a sky god, we are so alienated from our earthly mother that we endanger all of human life by our activities. And the hard edge of the fundamentalist who claims to have found the one true law and believes those who think otherwise are worthy of death (or eternal damnation) is still with us today.
The Wife of God has disappeared -- or, has She? Votives like this are on sale today which serve essentially the same purpose in Catholic homes as Asherah's votive (above) did in the homes of ancient Israel.
Still, I think it has only ever been a relatively small percentage of people who hold to the hardest edge of monotheism. We are surrounded by Mother Nature and she seeps into our traditions. The Shekinah, Mary, the Mother of God, the Christmas Tree and the Easter Egg, the bumper sticker imploring us to Honor Thy Mother with an image of the earth as seen from above, the fairies and elves and lost brides of our children’s tales are all ways in which the Mother Goddess seeps back into our lopsided psyche. The Goddess is lost, officially, but remembered deep within. Archaeology’s gift of restoring Asherah to our consciousness reminds us of what we already know: God does indeed have a wife. He must. For if we are his children, then we must have a mother.
