Me earlier before the game started because I did NOT think it would happen: “If the Chiefs win, I’ll actually start watching the next Football season.”
Me now:
Anyway, I should not have said that with witnesses present.

there are many reasons Australian politics tends to be quite centrist, but to put it simply — it’s the median voter theorem + compulsory voting
the median voter theorem basically says that, in a majoritarian electoral system, there will be pressure for there to be two parties and for those parties to be as similar to each other as possible
why? because you’re trying to win over the median voter. the median voter is the person who has exactly half of all voters to the left and exactly half to the right. they’re the voter in the middle of all voters
this doesn’t always mean the middle of the left-right spectrum. except. when voting is compulsory, that’s the way it ends up. if everyone votes, you get a whole heap of centrists and/or non-political people voting as well. which increases the probability that the median voter will be a centrist
whereas, in the US for example… there are fewer centrists voting (because there’s less incentive for them to vote) AND there are fewer leftists voting (because poor people, people of colour, etc are actively discouraged/prevented from voting)… so the median voter is always going to be closer to the right-wing than the left-wing
the ability to create voter suppression will always push the median voter to the right. compulsory voting will often push the median voter to the centre. and honestly? it’s hard to find an institutional arrangement that will maintain a left-wing equilibrium
so. there you have it. this is why voting is AN important part of political participation, but not the be all and end all of political participation. activism helps to tell politicians that the median voter isn’t where they thought it was. and that really does help

I feel a lot of feelings at the end of the year. Fortunately I've been busy enough lately not to stew too hard, but sometimes they sneak up on me when I'm not expecting it and it really hurts.
I'm going to do my best to be kind to myself and be proud of making it through this year no matter how much I've accomplished. 💜

i'm thinking of adding character sheets as an option for commissions
the basic one would include full body character design, 2 items (like weapons or idk a plushie. stuff that the character likes or uses), and 3 close-ups of details like accessories they wear, scars they have, any small detail you'd like to enhance on.
and you could pay extra to add a portrait, a view of the characters back and/or more items.
i have a few examples of this that i've made and some ppl were interested in it. idk how much they'd be but at least 500 sek. more depending on how detailed the character design is and how i am doing the designing (like if the description is detailed or if i'm doing the character design for you from less detailed description)

I spent a bit this morning scrolling through my archives from when I started my blog and I'm just... sad.
Sad for the 15 year old girl who was using this blog as a diary and social interaction and finding herself while people told her she was ugly, and annoying, and whiny.
I think maybe that's why I never come back here fully because it's imprinted in me that people don't want to hear from me? I never really agreed with the "millenials/gen z grew up in the Internet era and are suffering because of it" until I looked back and thought "wow. I just needed people to talk to, and to learn gently and the Internet gave everyone an excuse to be blunt and unfeeling"
I'm also kind of wondering if that's why I don't really go by "Jazz" anymore. She was hurt and sad and trying to connect but not knowing how
"Jas" is still learning, but more confident and fiercely protective of young people and also a badass business owner
Maybe I'll come back and restart one day idk

hi! i just finished reading dirk gently's holistic detective agency (partly bc i'd seen you talking about it and wanted to see what was up) and really enjoyed it! i know it's got two(?) tv shows as well as other books and adaptations, do you recommend any of them (or recommend i steer clear of any of them)? also p.s. i really love your artwork 💙
Ayy glad you enjoyed it!!! I haven’t seen the first show they made so I can’t say much on that, but I really enjoyed the 2016 show! It’s nothing like the book plot/character wise but it holds the same chaotic energy with a sprinkle (let’s be honest it’s more like a jet spray) of gay. I also know that there’s like a graphic novel/comic adaptation, but alas I haven’t read those either. The second book tho (the long dark tea time of the soul) is pretty good! Although I’ll admit I never finished it, idk why because I thought it was a pretty fun read.
