Stans claiming sjm isn’t a zionist are so delusional. It’s not even about her traveling to Israel and ‘feeling proud’ (which is zionist in general for several reasons but I digress) Her books are full of zionist and colonialist ideology. In TOG her protagonist is a literal colonizer who thinks she should conquer the world to ‘help’ it. The human rebels in TOG are written like cowardly ineffectual idiots who only get in the protagonists’ way. In ACOTAR, an ex slave is shat on by the narrative & the main characters for…*checks notes*…manipulating and then killing a slaver. He’s treated like a villain even after he proves himself (at BEST he’s considered morally grey by the end). In CC she specifically portrays the human rebels to be LITERAL child killing psychopaths who murder innocent vanir for no reason. A rebel leader shoots several vanir who were helping them. Like they bring them supplies and she has them killed on the spot. Just bc she’s EVIL I guess. And then the protagonists sabotage the rebellion’s weapons and ruin one of their bases because of it and it’s portrayed as this great act that will preserve peace (in a society with literal slaves where certain minorities are ALWAYS born slaves or second class citizens). The vanir (some of whom LITERALLY EAT HUMANS) are portrayed as innocent victims of violent extremism, instead of being portrayed as colonizers who willingly benefit from the suffering of humans/slaves. (I say the Vanir are colonizers bc in the w second book we find out the Vanir came from other worlds and the CC world originally belonged ONLY to humans but humans aren’t even viewed as full citizens and are more often slaves). These are Zionist beliefs. Focus on more than the smutty bits and you wouldn’t be so shocked.

"Growth and Joy" she says
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Az towards Elain:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't you find it curious how they're holding so tightly to what what SJM said about rejected bonds in this interview while ignoring what SJM has said in past interviews (and other parts of her interview from today) as well as actual information in the most recent books?
Yes, it would have been possible for SJM to walk away from the idea of Elain and Lucien if that's where the story had taken her.
But all that she has done is continue to demonstrate time and again that Az does not support Elain's growth and I wouldn't say he left her with much joy on Solstice would you?

So there’s some double standards we need to talk about, the WHOLE Inner Circle drinks in every scene we get of them, and understandably Nesta shouldn’t have been drinking as a coping mechanism but for Feyre to go ahead and stage an intervention, kick her out of her apartment, lock her away, and force her to train is not okay. It’s not okay for Cassian to sexualize Nesta when she has been starving herself, when she’s beaten and bruised, I don’t care if they were ‘helping’ her but that’s not how you do it no matter what. You don’t take away a person’s options until all they have is you and Nesta could not have gone back to the Human Lands because Feyre and Cassian wouldn’t have let her so I don’t want that excuse. Nesta shouldn’t have used drinking and sleeping around as a coping mechanism but it was a COPING mechanism. Y’all get so mad when Nesta slut shamed Feyre but when Feyre and Amren did it to Nesta it’s okay??? And let me bring up the fact that her mate and the whole Inner Circle have been alive for 500+ years … so let’s think about some things. Nesta shouldn’t have been mean I can agree with that because she said some rude things, should she have helped in the cabin more? Absolutely! But when the Inner Circle turns around and does the same thing is rude and doesn’t help Nesta in the way that she needs where are you all speaking then? Do you guys not see the double standard that you all hold towards the Inner Circle?

Since I'm on a Regency kick and have now read several dozen books of varying quality in the genre, I thought maybe I was too hard on Julia Quinn when I read the first Bridgerton book because I had only been reading Georgette Heyer at the time. Tried re-reading it again. Nope. Still utterly execrable absolute bottom-of-the-barrell USAmericans-writing-Brits shite. Clearly written for idiots who hate the "historical" part of historical romance. If anything I was too generous the first time because I enjoyed the sex scenes. The best thing that can be said for that Netflix atrocity is that it perfectly reflects the source material. Kill it. Kill it with fire.

honestly the character who suffers the most from misogyny in the entire saga is Feyre. she can't not want her abuser anymore, she can't raise her voice against abusive family, and she can't decide what to do with her own body as we saw many people saying that she is "invalid" for choosing to be a mother. everything she does can turn out to be incredibly wrong in the haters' eyes. it's frightening that even in a narrative as basic as sjm’s we have so many distortions of the canon that really push the image of a villainous or uninteresting Feyre.

CHAPTER 4 - page 10/?
original word count: 2843
revised word count: 1521
click for ch 4's full comparison document.
original:
he’d brushed away my knife, any hope of escaping lay in somehow sneaking up on him. With his hearing, I doubted I’d get a chance anytime soon, at least until he believed I was docile. If I tried to attack him or fled before then, he would destroy my family for the sheer enjoyment of it. Then he would find me again. I had no choice but to go. And then, later, I might find an opportunity to slit the beast’s throat. Or at least disable him long enough to flee. As long as the faeries couldn’t find me again, they couldn’t hold me to the Treaty. Even if it made me a cursed oath-breaker. But in going with him, I would be breaking the most important promise I’d ever made. Surely it trumped an ancient treaty that I hadn’t even signed. I loosened my grip on the hilt of my remaining dagger and stared into those green eyes for a long, silent while before I said, “When do we go?” Those lupine features remained fierce—vicious. Any lingering hope I had of fighting died as he moved to the door—no, to the quiver I’d left behind it. He pulled out the ash arrow, sniffed, and snarled at it. With two movements, he snapped it in half and chucked it into the fire behind my sisters before turning back to me. I could smell my doom on his breath as he said, “Now.” Now.
revised:
[nothing to see here - the comparison software spaced it this way because my revision has significantly fewer words!]

“Sarah J Mass continues the trend where abusive relationships are portrayed as completely acceptable.”
Tumblr media
Um... Feysand is abusive ? Is Elriel abusive ? Nessian is abusive ? Rowaelin is abusive ? Manorian is abusive ? I... WTF ?!
Tumblr media
Apparently, from what I know, people are saying that Feysand is abusive starting in book 4, when... no ? Yes, it sucks that Rhysand hid the pregnancy problem from Feyre, but you know what stress can do to an already stressed pregnant woman ? A miscarriage. And clearly, even if Rhysand wasn't perfect on this one, the risk and fear it provoked in him made sense. Making a mistake in a healthy relationship isn't the end of the world, especially with such a complicated situation, essentially dead end. The purpose of this plot specifically being Nesta's rescue for her relationship with Feyre. Maybe SJM didn't handle the scenario very well, but that's okay in itself. Especially since Rhysand planned to talk to Feyre about it at one point or another. He wasn't planning on hiding it from her until the birth or never telling her ! What would have really been toxic is... oh I don't know, absolutely wanting to risk having your son at the risk of Feyre's life and the baby no matter what by hiding it from her ?! (And let me have a doubt, but Rhysand's life was just as threatened as Feyre... If one dies, so does the other. No ?!) Also, it's a fantasy universe... I mean, a mistake in a couple of two immortal Fae essentially caused by the fear of the death of your partner and your baby... Uh, I think we can forgive, right ? This is nothing compared to the whole relationship Feyre had with Tamlin !
Tumblr media
I've literally seen people say that if Feyre had died at the end of the book, it would have confirmed that Rhysand was toxic / abusif, but in what way ? I remind you that Feyre knew about it at that time and that no matter if she would have known from the start, there was no solution for Feyre's case ! It was literally a no-win situation ! Rhysand would have been abusive of what ? For getting her pregnant ? Knowing that Feyre wanted this baby and was the one who decided to have one ? Also, these people were even talking about the fact that Rhysand would probably have blamed himself for Feyre's death but believed that he had done the moral and right thing... Like WTF ? Did these people even forget that Rhysand would have died with Feyre if she was fucking dead ?! They don't even make the effort to pretend they know what they're talking about ! Seriously, the reasoning of the antis is slammed to the ground.
Tumblr media
Rhysand essentially wanted to avoid any risk of unnecessary stress to Feyre (because once again it's fucking dangerous) in the sense that he hoped to find a solution to save her before telling her about the problem. And then, even if he didn't tell her right away after understanding that no, there was no solution, I would like to see you there telling the love of your life that she is inevitably going to die during delivery with the baby, when she was so happy and impatient to have this child and start this new chapter of your life together ?!
Tumblr media
Oh, and apparently the protective shield was toxic... You know, that same shield, brought in with the new threat emanating from the mortal queens, Beron's schemes and fucking Koshei... (Knowing that Rhys literally said in book 2 that he would be terrified to see his soulmate pregnant while they were surrounded by enemies, and the idea of what he would be capable of doing if Feyre was expecting a child and that she was threatened or harmed. Well I don't even see how this shield thing would shock the reader or be out of character for Rhysand...) This same protective shield that Feyre accepted despite gently making fun of it with Cassian, and that Rhysand then lowered so that she could be in contact with their family members whenever they wanted and / or whenever the moment presented itself once they were able to fully master it. So basically she could still touch her family / people she wanted... (Especially since Feyre may have a shield on her, but she is not kept locked up. She is free to go out and do what she wants. At one point, Feyre even says that she should accompany Nesta, Casian and Azriel into danger, after Rhysand says the same thing, then Rhysand corrects it by saying that they should accompany them both. Not that she shouldn't go. He's not fucking controlling her !) The real toxicity would have been keeping the shield on under all circumstances despite the conversation Feyre and Cassian had about it the first time he was addressed.

I saw a post in which someone said people should stop with anti Rhysand and anti Feysand posts, that if we don't like the books, we should just stop reading them. And someone else said that they love to see how some people have hundreds of posts anti Rhysand and anti Feysand, and that we post these things only because we have nothing better to do.
Honestly, I disagree.
I think we are doing it because many teenagers read Acotar (even twelve years old people). Some of these people are too young to realise how Rhysand actually abuses Feyre because the narrative makes it sound okay. Sarah J Mass makes Feyre forgive Rhysand, and almost everyone says their relationship is a good one.
When I look for a new book to read, I search for good reviews and bad ones. I look to see what people have to say, and I even read posts with quotes from the book. And I do it because I don't want to read a book about a toxic relationship.
This is my advice for anyone considering reading Acotar. Look for good reviews and bad ones. Look for the reviews that have quotes. In the end, it's your decision if you read the books or not. But I think that anyone should know how other people see the books, and to know that (in Acotar's case) they should expect a toxic relationship. Now, if someone doesn't see it as others do, that doesn't mean we should offend or insult this person. After all, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

This is still an argument then?
First off, it's pretty logical to assume that they could not use Elain to seduce Eris because Elain IS HIS BROTHERS MATE!
Eris was punished for refusing his father's orders to kill Jesminda and Lucien:
Tumblr media
There are signs that Eris feels sadness over his lack of relationship with Lucien:
Tumblr media
So I highly doubt SJM would be able to create a believable storyline where the IC could trick Eris into thinking he'd be able to marry Elain nor would it be believable that he'd want to when that would push a reconciliation with Lucien further away.
Second, it's not Nesta's beauty he's after. Sure, he offers her flattery as to her beauty but that's because he knows how to play the game. Eris has seen Nesta before and he's never shown even a hint of interest in her because of her appearance. Honestly, we don't even know Eris’s sexual preferences at this point.
Eris is after Nesta because of her ability to play political games (it's a little odd that dancing is considered political warfare but I didn't write the book so it is what it is) and her power, things he needs in order to defeat his father (his goal since ACOWAR).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The last paragraph makes it clear that Eris could give two shits about how Nesta looks in a dress, he's got "calculated lust" in his eyes because he's plotting what he can do with Nesta because of her skill set. He has bigger worries than how "pretty" she might be 🤦
And third, if any of this was about Elain making herself look less attractive because she wore a long-sleeved modest gown, then why did Cassian note she'd not once looked plain before that night? When we know for a fact she leans towards modesty and he's seen her wearing modest clothes? He clearly did not think her plain while wearing pants with a thigh length coat with a fur trimmed collar which covered just as much (if not more) than a dress.
Tumblr media
Cassian had seen Elain in modest clothing prior to the ballroom scene in the Hewn City but he'd never seen her wearing black and the ballroom scene is the first and only time he ever noted her as being plain therefore it's not the modest clothing that is the reason for his statement.
Also, the wording says nothing about the style of her dress being responsible for having the life sucked out of her, it specifically mentions the color black as the focus.
Tumblr media
"Elain in black was ridiculous"
"but the COLOR of her long-sleeved modest gown leeched the brightness from her face"
(it doesn't say the style or cut of the dress leeched the brightness from her face, it says color. The style is irrelevant).
And again.....
"but wearing black, no matter how much she claimed to be part of this court... It sucked the life from her"
And to really hammer it home:
Tumblr media
We don't learn the style or cut of the amethyst dress. All we're given is that the ill-suited black dress is gone and she's now glowing in a different color.
It's Night Court Black that is the issue, not the long sleeves, not the modest style.
"No matter how much she claimed to be part of this court.... It sucked the life from her"
The author could not be any more obvious.

We constantly compare Tamlin and Rhysand? Let’s just agree that they BOTH have done wrong, manipulation, causing some degree of physical and mental harm in a situation, now we can all agree that Rhysand did considerably MORE. Personally fuck both of these men and Feyre, Nesta, and Elain need to run as fast as they can. Also I don’t hate Tamlin and I do think that he has done more then enough for redemption but I don’t excuse his actions, now if some Rhysand and Inner Circle stans did the same all would be right in the world.

When I think of Zoyalai, I think, my god they could have been epic. If Zoya had stayed in line with what her character was in the original trilogy to actually be an anti-heroine by taking the female lead of the duology instead of LB's plot armor to make her perfect, I would surely would have loved a romance with her and Nikolai. I always saw great potential. And if only Nikolai had also remained this great, striking character of the trilogy instead of becoming this naive and borderline incompetent king of the duology, adoring Zoya to the point of giving her his fucking crown ? Seriously, why is this ?! They could have been great together ! Oh and also if LB hadn't spent the entire duology spitting on the Darkling by blaming him for all of Ravka's problems and shoving Malina's great happiness down our throats again. Frankly, a true Nikolai duology set a few years after the events of the trilogy is always appealing. But that's not what we got. What we got was a duology about Zoya being some kind of cheap copy of Daenerys Targaryen. (Rather ironic knowing that LB doesn't like Daenerys. That + the fact that LB doesn't like Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre makes her even more unbearable in my eyes as authors. Madam, you don't understand anything about Daenerys from ASOIAF, and you didn't understand anything about Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre. But at this stage, nothing surprises me about her anymore). In any case, if I had to name a couple that is everything Zoyalai should / could have been it's basically Manorian AKA Manon & Dorian from the Throne of Glass book series (my second favorite couple from this book series by the way) from Sarah J Mass. If one day you read this series you will surely understand what I mean. All this to say that at this stage of disgust for the duology I will probably sell it. Hoping to be able to erase without problems my old notes full of anger, in pencil, on certain pages dating back quite some time now... 😅
Not gonna lie, at first I liked the idea of this ship. But it lasted less than a month when I heard of their duology counterparts and what they have done and said.
For me, Nikolai and Zoya are full of words and words but no action. They threaten, whine and curse but, in the end, they do nothing. And the narrative solves it for them.
I never heard of Bardugo not liking Daenerys. I only know that she loved Sansa's character. So send me the link where she said that if you can.
I have no problem with Leigh as a person. But I have a problem with her as an author because she just isn't good at it. Writing isn't only the talent of writing beautiful, poetic lines but also to keep a coherent story and characters that develop throughout the story.
(and if you create a persecuted group of people do not throw them to the bin afterwards. Just a friendly advice for any aspiring authors out there)
And good for you if you decide to sell these books. With the money you'll gain you can buy something more... worthy to have.

sarah j mass antis you say? look. i checked out the first throne of glass book from the library when i was ten years old. and my friend, i was obsessed. finally i’d found what i would later realize was my favorite trope in fiction: female heroines rejecting the call. women saying "i’ve suffered enough." the first book is off to a great start, fifth grade me will not put it down. this girl is badass, she’s ruthless, she’s selfish, and she feels no obligation to save the world. "but it’s your destiny!" calls the journey, "but you’re the only one who can save us!" and the heroine says absolutely not. i will not die for you after everything i’ve already lost. and then — and then !! we make it another book or two and we discover: our heroine, who has staunchly declared that saving the world is neither her obligation nor responsibility, is in fact a long lost princess! and a magical one too! now, i don’t know about you, but i think the ruler of my country has an obligation and a responsibility to save said country. unless she wants to give up her crown and let the country democratize, her absolute power had better be used for good. i was devastated. i finished the series out of spite and never reread.
My main issue with Maas, aside from the racism and colonialism in her real life (and books), is that the fae have been my Special Interest since I was born. And what she did to them is unforgivable. Especially since she's sparked a trend and now every single fairy book (unless it's by Catherynne Valente) is the exact same garbage over and over again. I finally understand why all the vampire girlies got so mad about Twilight. But, hey, at least Meyer still had her vamps drinking blood. So they at least retained the main defining feature of their kind. Can't say that about Maas-Fae.
And I agree with you about heroines. I love a murderous, independent woman who does not care if she's the chosen one. We absolutely need more of that. But! If girl wants to be an actual literal monarch, she's gotta answer that call. If she wants to say "shove this crown so far up your ass it comes out your mouth" that's cool, no qualms there. But otherwise, no. No no no no. If she wants that position, that power, she's gotta take the responsibilities that come with it

anti honesty hour: why are you as old as you are
Right
*Sips pomegranate juice in a wine glass*
Once upon a time the planets and fates and all the stars aligned. He and I ended up in the same room at the same time. And the touch of a hand lit the fuse. Of a chain reaction of counter moves. To asses the equation of him. Check mate I couldn't lose.
It wasn't accidental, no sire not at all. It was one magic book and one curious darling in love with the idea of vampires. She sifted through the tome and found the spell that would make her one. Forever. She just had to find her Sarah J Mass type mate, who was hot 🥵🥵🥵🥵 and 🔥🔥🔥 and super duper problematic. And she was supposed to murder him (him because SJM only does straight ppl mates) and sacrifice his blood on the altar of the....goddess of wisdom and peace. So I met the guy, he made my blood boil because how can someone be so problematic abt their views and at the same time so self conceited that they think that they're the only one who cares abt social justice?? Had no regrets I tell you.
So like I did something with a blender, it was a long time ago I tell you so I don't remember what but I think it was a chocolate shake and how did I even have a blender? My alien friend Mark gifted it to me. Electricity? That magic book.
Right so my smoothie in my tummy I did the ritual and like this is the part where everyone asks me "Hey it hurt a lot didn't it? The loss of you humanity and the whole growing fangs business and thirst for blood?"
No. No. It was so beautiful. So many sparkles and so much or confetti had never been seen and it was literally a complete barbie magic fairy transformation moment. It has been wonderful since then, the whole idea of being a vampire but luke once a month I have to take some animal blood but otherwise we're good. Oh and garlic doesn't hurt and sunscreen solves the sunlight problem so we're all good. And I still have morals and flaws plus an eternity of trying to be the best I can be which is a truly enriching life experience.
Oh and the goddess gifted me a magic closet which is equipped with great clothes all the time because apparently I could really use a wardrobe glow up.
