I just wanted to rant about Orihime
Tumblr media
I absolutely HATE the way she was treated in Hueco Mundo, especially for such a sweet and caring girl like her. She was kidnapped against her will, with Ulquiorra making the sick decision to threaten her with the lives of the people she loves, called a traitor for literally being blackmailed, she was physically abused by Loly and Menoly so badly TWICE, with loly punching her in the face, leaving her face disfigured (And there was even BLOOD coming out of her mouth!), for no reason, yet she still healed her abusers out of kindness and Loly and Menoly threatened to tear out her eye and fingernails OVER SOMEONE ORIHIME DIDN'T EVEN LIKE, she was completely psychologically broken by Ulquiorra when he KILLED the man she LOVED just to torture her more, which she even blamed HERSELF for, threatened to rip open her skull and chest and threatened to force feed her and give her intravenous therapy, Nnoitra suggested that he could... you know... and was such a complete vile and disgusting creep to her, calling her his "pet", (Ulquiorra was very hypocritical regarding this, because he called out Nnoitra, yet he himself still was very willing to psychologically torture Orihime) Grimmjow strangled her twice, dragged her around in chains, manhandled her and only wanted Orihime to heal Ichigo so he could hurt him again, and called her names that I don't want to mention. It physically pains me to see someone as kind and gentle as her suffer so much... Aizen and the Arrancars are complete sadistic monsters and they make me sick that they'd do this to poor Orihime. And Aizen didn't even want her powers at all, it was just to distract the strongest fighters while he took over Karakura, so all the trauma she went through was all for NOTHING.
Yet people hate her because of stupid shipping wars. I definitely don't ship UlquiHime (which people ship just to get her out of the way of IchiRuki) because he was manipulative and psychologically tormented her to past breaking point. They're shipping her with her LITERAL MENTAL ABUSER whom she has never even met or even had a single thought about until the fight with Yammy and when he kidnapped her. (And even after that, the only memory she had of Ulquiorra after the Hueco Mundo Arc was when he murdered Ichigo) A gentle girl like her deserves someone who doesn't abuse and torment her so much all the time. People say that she cared more about Ulquiorra than she did Ichigo, but that is definitely not the case, hence all the, "Kurosaki-kuns". (Y'all really want her to stay in HM forever?! With those awful Arrancar monsters and Aizen?!)
People also think that Orihime is far too obsessed with Ichigo, yet with IchiRuki, Ichigo CANNOT FUNCTION without his true love Rukia? He doesn't care about protecting people who aren't Rukia? And all these Yanderes, like Loly, Jaguara (Wolf's Rain), Shiro (Deadman Wonderland) and ESPECIALLY Yuno Gasai (Mirai Nikki) get away with literally harming or MURDERING anyone who even so much as looks at their love interest, or even their love interest themselves because it's 'cute?' They're the ones who are too obsessed if they're going to resort to such extreme lengths for their love interest, or out of jealousy towards their love interest. They're literally saying that a normal, sweet, kind girl is WORSE than these psychos. Orihime was just experiencing a normal crush, which developed into GENUINE LOVE for Ichigo, while these yanderes are complete psychos regarding their love interests, which Orihime is not. Excuse me, Yanderes, resorting to killing for love is not cute in the slightest. Orihime would never murder anyone over Ichigo. She even felt bad for being jealous of Rukia because Orihime LOVES Rukia as a friend and thinks she's amazing. Orihime was even happy for Rukia when she got married to Renji, and cried tears of joy for her (And no, it's not because Orihime finally could have Ichigo all to herself). Not to mention her love for Ichigo was what broke her out of Tsukishima's brainwashing.
And she's even been VILLAINISED too, just because she's in the way of IchiRuki (Which is NOT OK because of the huge age gap, and that Ichigo would have to die in order to be with Rukia, which would be devastating for Orihime because she wants to keep him alive and safe). But that doesn't mean I don't love Rukia, nor do I think that she's in the way of IchiHime. I definitely support RenRuki, which makes way more sense than IchiRuki. Side note, I also don't understand all the bashing that Renji gets, he's still a nice guy. Rukia was very supportive of Orihime and understood her captivity situation, and she's so funny 😄 People have said that Orihime healed more enemies than friends, but Orihime is many things, and a villain is NOT one of them. She healed Loly and Menoly because she just can't stand people getting hurt, no matter who they are, and she only healed Grimmjow's arm because Aizen told her to. And the haters ignore that she always heals her friends ALL THE TIME. That does not mean Orihime is a villain. I mean, Aughra (The Dark Crystal) paid her respects to SkekMal the Hunter, a violent, malevolent beast, even calling him the most 'beautiful' of the Skeksis, but does that make her a villain? No way. She still sacrificed her life/essence in place of Brea, Seladon and Maudra Fara. Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) made a grave for his friend Shin, who literally tortured Ken by scarring his body and tormented and enslaved innocent people to build an entire city for Yuria, Ken's fiancee, who Shin had kidnapped. Does that make Ken a villain? No way. People claim Orihime is a villain, yet they let the ACTUAL villains get away with what they did to her just because they're attractive. Yes, Orihime healed her enemies, but she also NEVER ATTACKED HER FRIENDS.
Also, Orihime has been called selfish and manipulative, among other things. But here's the thing: She's NOT. She's far from all that. The reason she slapped Ulquiorra, which she had every right to do, was because he taunted her that Chad was supposedly dead, and he was dissing her friends by saying they were stupid and reckless to charge straight into Hueco Mundo. Ulq KNOWS that Orihime cares for her friends, so he deliberately used her love for her friends to kidnap her, manipulate her and completely psychologically break her. Orihime even literally begged to be let out of her cell to go and help Rukia, one of her BEST FRIENDS. When she was restrained by Nnoitra, she didn't care that she was being held back in a really creepy manner by one of the most vile Arrancars in existence. She really cared about Ichigo's and Nel's safety. She even shielded Uryu from Ulquiorra while completely breaking down, tried to help Yachiru, and even tried to heal Zaraki after the Nnoitra fight before getting rekidnapped. Victim blaming or what? (And also someone said that just because Orihime doesn't get a job at a clinic helping people means she FAKING her kindness? It's all an act? Like WHAT?! She can only get a job at a clinic because if not it means her kindness is an act?! She can still have other jobs AND still heal people all the while!!!! I'm not saying that helping people is wrong or bad, because it's not. I'm saying that just because she doesn't work at a clinic doesn't mean she doesn't like helping people!!!)
And there's also the whole Damsel in distress thing. That wasn't Orihime's fault. Aizen and Ulquiorra forced her into that position by threatening the lives of her friends. What else could she do? Not to mention her escorts were horribly killed right in front of her just to prove Ulquiorra's point. Even then, Orihime told THEM to run, because she valued their lives more than her own. Orihime didn't plan her own kidnapping, abuse and trauma, Aizen did. He was the one basically making her submit due to his spiritual pressure. If someone more mentally hardened was kidnapped, and was the type of person to kill their captors and escape from captivity instantly, they get so much praise, but if it's a sweet, pacifistic person like Orihime, who doesn't like to even WOUND people, and only had to comply with their captors because the people they love would have been killed, and having been traumatised to the point of breaking down in tears, they get the blame just for, "being a Damsel/Dude in distress"... like WHAT?!
And then there was her screaming to Ichigo for help. She was completely psychologically broken and traumatised by seeing the man she loved practically dead, so much so, that she couldn't do anything but cry because she loved Ichigo so much, and didn't want him to get hurt. She's left in pain and horror and guilt, yet it's ULQUIORRA who is really to blame here, not her. Captivity and abuse, especially someone as gentle as her, does that to you. He was the one who killed Ichigo and MOCKED her love for him while doing that just to break her even more, and Ulquiorra left behind his Reiatsu on Ichigo, which was too strong for Orihime to possibly reverse. Her LITERAL MENTAL BREAKDOWN was what awakened Vasto Lorde Ichigo. She didn't even blame Ichigo for dying and not protecting her, Uryu for not protecting Ichigo or Ulquiorra for killing him and torturing her - she blamed HERSELF. (I don't blame Ichigo and Uryu, they were literally killed and injured because of that stupid batboy).
Then there's her pacifistic nature and inability to fight. Again, she hates seeing people, friend or foe, being injured. Just because Orihime only heals and shields does not make her weak or useless at all. People are seeing her overkindness as weakness, uselessness and/or even villainy, and want her to have a more aggressive personality. Pacifism is seen as villainy, but aggression isn't? She's even being compared to Sakura. Orihime is WAY nicer than Sakura could ever be. (I'm sorry to those who like Sakura, I understand why you do). Orihime would never stoop so low as to beat up her friends or even say a single mean word to them over the smallest things like Sakura does. (Beating up your friends isn't funny at all, it's just mean).
She mostly gets a bad rep for yelling, "Kurosaki-kun!", but guess what? It's because she CARES about Ichigo, because he's being injured and killed right in front of her. If she didn't care about him, she wouldn't be saying his name worriedly.
And finally, there's her being scared of Ichigo's Hollow Mask. It literally brought back traumatising memories of a Hollowfied Sora/Acidwire, and she was scared FOR Ichigo, not OF Ichigo. She didn't want him to lose himself to his Hollow side like Sora did. That doesn't mean I hate Ichigo for scaring her, I know he was trying to protect her, which he has been doing the whole time. We love you, Kurosaki-kun 💖 (And people said that Ichigo didn't heed Loly's threat to tear out Orihime's eye and Ulquiorra "protected" her by stopping Ichigo, but... Ulquiorra didn't heed Loly's threat either! He told Loly (Who was HOLDING ORIHIME) he didn't stop Ichigo to save Loly, which extends to Orihime as well!)
I'm sorry for this long rant, but I just feel upset with the way Orihime is treated in- and out-of-universe. She's just so sweet. I'm just trying to think about all of this in a logical and pathological way.
TL;DR: I'm upset that Orihime gets so much hate because she has suffered so much and is a sweet girl.

Met Douglas and Menoli on a walking tour and really enjoyed talking with them about being in a mixed marriage and meeting after apartheid ended. Menoli mentioned that they never could’ve legally gotten together prior to 1994. Crazy.. when I remember I graduated from university in 1992! Apartheid laws in South Africa were not only about keeping whites superior, it was also about keeping all people of color divided as well.

Outstandingly beautiful Indian clothes for weddings and fancy occasions. This boutique was connected to the Antique Cafe where we shared lunch together.

Walking tour in the Indian parts of Durban in the Greyville area of the central business district (CBD). First two pics are of the 1860 Heritage Center and Documentation Center. This museum stores artifacts and history of the Indian indentured laborers who worked on sugarcane plantations in KZN. Fascinating and heart wrenching. A great discovery was the anti-apartheid solidarity I read about between Black and Brown people.

I can't believe all the shit I had to read, if it weren't enough to make Ulquiorra and Orihime's relationship more "healthier" than Ichigo and Orihime's, do you still get fancy that Ichigo almost killed her? "Yeah, he almost killed her ... And it was 3 tries" , lol. This is just a fragment of this nonsense, so I'm not going to go up any more, where I'm going ...
You are telling me that Ulquiorra's treatment of Orihime as intimidating her; manipulating her (exerting psychological pressure); making fun of her friends in front of her; trampling on her trust and hope; treating her like a prisoner; allowing Loly and Menoly to physically abuse her; Killing her friends in front of her mercilessly etc etc etc; are any act of "compassion" compared to what savage technique Ichigo could have "killed" her? Whose purpose of that his fight was - you know, insignificant thing - to save and free her? When Orihime was not even close to suffering any damage with Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshou (Nor Ulquiorra's attacks which curiously does not mention it that could also damage her)...
As if Ichigo's distraction load was not enough and being forced to interrupt in the middle of battle to try to help her...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And again...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You seem to purposely ignore that Ichigo was still holding back from his power in order not to hurt Orihime until Uryuu's arrival, what a priority.
Tumblr media
And if Ichigo was really careless with launching his attack techniques and that they could even touch her, then forgive him. It is not an easy task to fight and protect someone at the same time, and worse when the disadvantages increase as the intervention of other characters while blocking his step to rescue her.
Remember when Ichigo recovered from his unconscious complete hollow transformation and ignored Orihime's well-being while Ulquiorra was the one who cared for her well-being? Me neither.
Tumblr media
But what difference does it make? These antis see any detail with a magnifying glass to place the IH relationship against them at any time. Keep it up, don't miss any details, record everything you can in your investigation methodology of "absurd and microscopic things of which IH was not a healthy couple". 🥴

(sending again) What's your opinion on ulquihime? I'm personally baffled and disturbed that some people will claim to care for Orihime but then ship her with the monster who kidnapped, tortured and abused her. I didn't particularly care that he "changed" in the last few seconds of his life after he put her through hell and back. What's the charm in shipping that disfunction? It's also interesting to note that many of them (not all) also ship ichiruki and we know they want Hime out of the way.
I mean, UH is probably one of my least favorite bleach ships. It doesn’t require long analytical essays detailing how disturbing it is, because all you have to do is pull up a single manga page; take your pick. At one point he threatens to strap her down and force food down her throat—Really, it speaks for itself.I can see why people like it in an aesthetic sense? But I’m not going to police what people ship. I just think some of the greatest irony I’ve seen in this fandom is people being like, “IchiHime is so toxic and unhealthy!!! btw I ship ulquihime” like….lmao okay.Where it seemed like spite-shipping just to get Orihime out of the way was when you had people flip-flop back and forth between UH and Ishi/hime depending on which one was more convenient at the time, with no real commitment to either ship. You can’t insist that Kubo’s ~authorial intent~ was for Orihime to fall in love with Ulquiorra in the HM/lust arcs and then, when it’s clear that he’s dead and not coming back, you change course and suddenly the ~authorial intent~ has been for her to fall in love with Ishida all along (while still keeping your fingers crossed that Ulquiorra might come back and end up w/ Orihime, even though she’s supposed to already be falling in love with Ishida?) Orihime’s totally meant to be with Ishida in the SS arc, then no wait! Ulquiorra in the arrancar arc, then no wait! Back to Ishida again. Like, which one is it exactly? Are you just throwing her at any guy who seems convenient at the time *except* of course for the one she’s actually in love with?See, that’s one of the many perks of being an IchiHime shipper: we never flip-flopped on who Orihime should be with, or what Kubo’s ~authorial intent~ for her was. He made it a fact that she was in love with Ichigo and never once wavered from it, and that was that. We didn’t try to ignore or deny or alter what he wrote for her in canon. The weird thing was, as soon as she shed tears or showed compassion towards Ulquiorra or Ishida, that was somehow “proof” that she had romantic feelings for them….ignoring the fact that that’s all part of Orihime’s characterization? Her big heart and compassion?? This is the girl who shed tears for Riruka, and healed Loly and Menoly after they brutally assaulted her…So where were all the claims that she was falling in love with them, too? Her showing compassion wasn’t some “special treatment” she reserved just for Ulquiorra and/or Ishida as a sign of her romantic feelings. To suggest otherwise is to ignore/deny canon. But in terms of shipping things for canon (like, expecting them to actually happen in canon), one thing that always confused me about UH (ishi/hime as well) was that people often treated Orihime’s feelings like they were up for grabs?? Like…they acted as if her feelings were ambiguous/a blank slate, and that she would just express romantic feelings for Ulquiorra/Ishida at any given moment without there being any resolution to her love for Ichigo first? And I think a lot of that stems from the fact that most of the time, these people wouldn’t even acknowledge that she was, in fact, in love with Ichigo. It was not a “”crush”” as they vehemently insisted, it was love. The word “love” was literally written by Kubo in canon. So to say it wasn’t love but just a crush is to, once again, ignore/deny canon. Point blank. But somehow that didn’t bother them—that they had to literally ignore/deny actual canon in order to make their anti-IH or pro-UH/IsH arguments.Orihime was already in love with Ichigo in canon…but they claimed it was totally likely for her to fall in love with someone else. Meanwhile, Ichigo wasn’t already in love with someone else in canon….but they claimed it was totally impossible for him to fall in love with Orihime. Do you see how backwards that is?The crazy thing about expecting UH to happen is that she had literally just confessed her love for Ichigo like…two days prior to the lust arc? lmao I’m not even sure about the timeline but yeah….no.But back in the day, the arguments were always like, “yeah ok, Orihime likes Ichigo for now but that’s only because she’s meant to get over him in order to develop.” Which is to completely ignore/deny the fact that she DID develop as a character all while being in love with Ichigo. Thus…her love for him wasn’t holding her back from developing; it wasn’t some obstacle she needed to “overcome.” One of the most blatant examples of this was when she sasses Riruka and says she’ll never allow Ichigo to be irreparably hurt again, with straight up flashbacks to the lust arc shown on the page spelling out how she developed since then, or when she then stands up to Ginjou and sasses the fuck out of him too while protecting Ichigo/showcasing her new powers. The argument was always that Orihime turned “too passive” around Ichigo, and yet, there she was, standing up to Ginjou while Ichigo is just an arm’s length away, watching her in awe. That was clear cut character development, while she was still very much in love with Ichigo. So, to say that she didn’t or couldn’t develop while being in love with him is to once again ignore/deny canon in order to make an anti-IH argument. (Notice the pattern of ignoring canon?)People praised UH because Ulquiorra “brought out Orihime’s strength and aggressive side”” or w/e because she slaps him?? But notice that Ichigo didn’t have to psychologically torment her or threaten to force food down her throat for her to showcase her strength and resilience in his presence. She even tells Riruka in the game space that Ichigo is the reason she can talk about her tragic past without getting upset—essentially, he’s her biggest inspiration for strength, hope, and happiness. So much for being ~toxic lmao.…As for Ulquiorra? He dies and she’s only ever shown thinking about him once, when she remembers how he killed Ichigo in front of her (lmao nothing else, just that), and that’s what motivates her to never allow Ichigo to be hurt beyond repair again. And then time goes on and she becomes even stronger and ends up tag-teaming a freaking GOD with Ichigo, and actually has Ichigo ask for her help in battle, which he never did with anyone else before. So much for him making her “weak and passive” lmao. But the thing is, it didn’t matter that Ulquiorra turned to dust in the end; he could have kept on living and it wouldn’t have changed a single thing. Just as Ishida was always around and it didn’t change a single thing. Because Orihime never had romantic feelings for either one of them, nor would she have developed feelings for them over time. Not only was she already in love with Ichigo, Kubo already had an IH marriage planned after chapter one. And in her own words, she wanted to fall in love with the same person (same person!! not a different person depending on which bleach arc it was) for each lifetime she lived. And that person was always Ichigo. That’s what Kubo wrote in her love confession. People can cry about it all they want, but that is indisputably canon. If Kubo’s ~authorial intent~ was for her to move on or fall in love with Ulquiorra/Ishida, he would have had her express a desire to move on, had surrounding characters tell her she should just give up on Ichigo, he would have shown her doubting her feelings for Ichigo, shown them weakening, but he didn’t. Never. Not even once. And he definitely wouldn’t have made her love canon if his ~authorial intent~ was for it to be a shallow crush she would eventually get over. Instead, he has her undergo a powerful brainwashing and still her love for Ichigo remains untouched. That should have been a huge sign to the antis that her feelings weren’t going anywhere.Bottom line is: you don’t write a love confession with so much permanence attached to it (five lifetimes, one love i.e. loving the same person forever) if you intend on having that character move on to someone different less than 2 years later. (Or like 2 days later in UH’s case lmao).I don’t know why people honestly expected anything different lmao? He told us flat out, “five lifetimes, one love.” He continued to write about her feelings for Ichigo until the very end, because they were meant to be reciprocated in the end. It’s not complicated.

Warning: Mini Babble Rant Ahead.
Loly and Menoly were the absolutly most annoying and pointless characters in this whole series and I cannot stand them, to the point where I have to resist skipping all of their scenes because I just straight up do not care. They were the most stereotypical mean girl characters who did absolutely nothing except bully Orihime and be annoying and just in general not fit into the current seriousness with such a childish storyline. I cannot stand these characters! They could have at least made them just general psycho's who got off on torture, but no, Loly was an incredibly jealous petty girl who just wanted to pick on Orihime because Aizen showed her attention and Menoly was basically her back up who did what she said because every mean girl needs a pathetic backup sidekick. And on top of that, they were weak as hell. So they weren't even a threat or anything. Obviously Ichigo and the rest were too distracted to stop them from hurting Orihime, but in the end, that still didn't make them a threat and the audience knows this right from the start. We all know they're weak as hell so we know they're gonna get defeated easily in the end. I mean it could have been better if there was a surprise twist and one of them was close to being an Espada or something to give them a little edge. Just something to make them interesting and not such a boring and pointless cliches that no one asked for and that did absolutely nothing to the story except give some angst-loving people a bit of torture porn of Orihime!
God I hate them.
