“Luke was such a sweet and innocent boy!”

Girl, he literally mutilated another child *for life* by fucking cutting his eye out at the age of 7 and didn’t even feel remorse when he grew up. He never apologized. He never felt bad. And fucking stop using his age as an excuse. Never in my life, not even at 7 years old I thought that cutting someone’s eye was a good idea. Especially because it wasn’t really in self defense, the Strong boys just got angry at Aemond cause he called them bastards (and was right). And may I remind you; he never felt remorse. Not for a single moment he felt bad about bullying Aemond and mutilating him for life. After all those years he was still gagging about it. How tf is that “sweet innocent boy” behavior?

I would’ve felt sorry about him dying if he showed just a little remorse. If only he apologized to Aemond. But he didn’t. And i don’t care about him dying. He was a violent bully since childhood and never grew out of it. What is there to feel sorry for?

“He was just a child!” So was Aemond. Stop pretending like he lost his eye in his 20s or something. Him being a couple years older than Luke doesn’t change the fact that he was a child as well when he got mutilated in such a horrible way.

at the end of the day everyone can relate to this feeling of frustration when the majority of fics skew in a direction you're not a fan of. and every author should absolutely feel like they can post whatever they want and enjoy themselves; the target audience isn't always you and that's fine. but i simultaneously feel like venting these annoyances with like-minded people in your own space is also not a crime. sometimes we don't like stuff and want to gossip about it. it's really not that serious, everyone has the thinnest skin imaginable these days

it's like we've forgotten how to interact with one another. not liking something is not a personal affront to the person who does like it. it does not require outrage at the expressing of an opinion. it does not require a silencing campaign. you shouldn't expect others to keep quiet all the time just so your feelings won't be hurt. the fuck. especially when, i repeat, the tags can always be muted. what are you even doing interacting with the posts if the mere act of verbalizing a dislike bothers you so much?

there's a world of difference between occasional banter and sending authors hate, leaving disgruntled reviews, telling people to kms or insinuating that on your blog, casually accusing them of being illegal sexual deviants and whatever other deranged insults stans trade like candy and we definitely should stop acting like these two things are the same. you don't have to turn everything into a fight in the trenches

To some extent I do believe it's very hard to avoid some OOC-ness from these characters since they're being put into new scenarios that didn't happen in canon and everything about this is being left to the author's personal interpretation which will naturally spark some debate whether or not what a certain character's actions are believable within their universe, however, due to the formulaic nature of a lot of those fics most characters (especially green ones if we're talking about Rhaenyra's daughter OCs) are brought to insane levels of OOC just to make their story work. Like yeah, if Aemond has constantly been abused by his mother (not physically necessarily), by Aegon, by his grandfather and, on top of that, Alicent and/or Otto try to have his beloved OC assassinated well, chances are this will make him denounce his family and switch sides sooner or later. Something that would've never happened under normal circumstances. Oh and I've also noticed a trend in quite a few of these fics of using Alys in cheating tropes and always turning her into an evil witch and seductress who tries to separate Aemond from the OC and use him for her own benefits…all I'm going to say is you don't want to see how demented and misogynistic people get about her in the comment sections. Anyway I'm sorry about extending this discussion about Aemond x OC fics and I hope it hasn't attracted too many weirdos who are spewing hate in your inbox!

Ok so this may be weird on my part, but why is it that every time I read a Velaryon(Strong)!Reader, I kinda wait for a scene where Alys is present?

I mean like a good scene, not the usual cringe cliches where OC (and author 😭) vilifies Alys for no reason. To me (Alys' lawyer and 1# stan) it sometimes gets repetitive. They completely ignore the potential this encounter may have.

Because at least in my eyes, especially in the case of a Velaryon(Strong)!Reader x Aemond or even Aegon AU, these two girls are... Literally the same?

Bastards born from a Strong? Hello???? Spouses of Targaryen princes? HELLO?????? Except one has everything and one has nothing because this one had no one to cover her up and protect her. And at the same time, the OC maybe just MAYBE sees Alys as a reflection of what she'd be had people been honest about her from the start, refreshing and haunting at the same time. Am I the only one seeing some angsty ass material with this?

You’re so rightttt. There’s so much missed potential there. The OC interacting with Alys would be such a great way to explore the Strong OCs perception of self and how they feel about the imposter role their mother put them if the writers had the guts to write an OC that actually has critical thinking and doesn’t simply accept every one of Rhaenyra beliefs. The Alys/ Strong OC clash and how effective it could be in a fic reminds me of Sejanus having to mentor the tribute from his own district in tbosbas and how much guilt that evoked in him because they’re both district people but he was spared that life because of his fathers money.

Tbh I don’t read a lot of Aemond/Strong OC fics because in a lot of cases the OC is more or less a female version of Lucerys (either she took his eye out or she was there cheering it on) which is a dealbreaker for me because these fics usually heavily imply that Aemond literally loosing an eye is something he should get over and forget about which is just… insane.

And if the OC isn’t some form of Lucerys’ character she’s so team black that it makes the reading experience very boring because girl will literally never question the role her family is playing in creating a succession crisis. It’s very much giving ‘I don’t care about politics because I’m so privileged that I never had to care’ which I see enough of in real life to want to read a fic about.

now, if you don't understand why that statement is horrifying to me, then... eugh. this is basically apologizing for lucs death by saying aemond had it worse. by the way, the same argument could be made for jaehaerys. a chop to the head is 'painless and merciful' as well. (not defending B-C, just stating a point of how ridiculous this user is)

lucerys died trying to get home to his mother (who's just suffered from the loss of a daughter), and escape from his psychopathic and deranged (and really idiotic), uncle. he and arrax were terrified and being chased by a flying war godzilla. that is not a painless and merciful death. not going to even say anything about how he most likely fell off his saddle and drowned, or that you can hear arrax squealing in pain before his body falls from vhagars mouth.

Saying aemond didn't hit jace with a rock, which he definetly did, and going to the source he was half aemonds age, was being beaten up badly and repeatedly, they retconned jaces training and fighting skill(from ep 6) to make aemond stronger because in source he was bigger as well as stronger. Because otherwise the defence part made no sense since from velaryon boys it was always defence in book for joffery and in show for the twins. And luke wasn't even supposed to be there, he asks why they're there.

Why would luke apologise for protecting his brother when aemond does not apologise for beating him up/hitting him with a rock on the head? Luke took so much time to get to knife and baela and rhaena weren't interrupting he could have run away hut what does he do? Walk towards jace with a rock held up

Absolutely not implying aemond deserved what happened next but think from a prespective of a 5/7 year old who had his nose broken, his brothers head hit with a rock/is being beaten up repeatedly and the same kid also threatened to burn them alive. I'm not sure kids that young have threat assessment, luke absolutely thought he'd do that, so he did what he could to protect them

And lucerys does not feel remorse for aemond, yeah why would he? They had a chance to make him apologise and actually punish him rarionaly but alicent asked for an eye instead and rhaenyra hit back with torture, adults ruin any reconciliation

In show it reversed but still stands and not to mention in show alicent actually jumped on them with a knife...I'm sorry but his own mother being cut and seeing a woman jump on them, why do you think he'd care?

Below is fan art of Aemond and Lucerys. I don't care if people get angry at me for using this as an example but I saw it today and couldn't not say anything. This photo has been the only fan art I have seen like this but I know there is way worse out there.

The ship between Aemond and Lucerys is weird. Period. It turns really freaky when people make it a sexual relationship!

Aemond is an adult and Lucerys is a minor. Shipping them isn't right! There is no justification for it. I have ran across fanfics on this app and on AO3 that have disgusting explicit content between Aemond and Lucerys. How do you write that? How do you draw something that explicit between adult and minor?

I don't see the ship appeal in general and never will understand it. I hope nothing like this ever shows up on my Tumblr page again.

If you are a Luke and Aemond shipper to this degree please unfollow or just block me if you hate that I'm speaking on this bullshit. You will not be missed.

your "hostile" opinion appeared in the lucemond tag and I don't think I need to explain the basic rules of Tumblr to you, but maybe next time you'll filter it so that people who really like the ship don't see it.

You can hate lucemonders, make angry posts about lucemond and use your free time to declare yourself "anti" instead of genuinely enjoying the things you like. That anon does have a point when saying that lots of Aemond x OC fics (especially where the OC is a daughter of Rhaenyra) use some of the same plot points for their made up character. For example they will have their OC, instead of Luke (sometimes he will not exist at all in the fics and she takes his place), be the one who takes Aemond's eye which is even more startling when, as an adult, he will hopelessly fall in love with OC, is ready to sacrifice everything, abandon his family and switch sides just to marry her something that will almost never happen in the opposite case. While yes, Aemond developing an obsession with the person who took his eye is very normal, falling in love is a totally different thing and seems forced and just…unrealistic? And it's very weird when you see team black stans complaining from time to time about the amount of Aemond fics on AO3 paired with a daughter of Rhaenyra's falling in love with him and betraying her side when 99% of the same fics are written by other team black fans and have Aemond doing the switching sides thing lmao.

Of course people are free to write whatever they want about fictional characters, but after a while these type of fics are quite tiring since they're following the same plot points and tropes, more or less: she takes his eye or defends her brother doing the same without even trying to understand Aemond's POV, is either a Strong or Daemon's bastard masquerading as a trueborn Velaryon, rides Vermithor or Cannibal and knows how to control them unlike Aemond, behaves and sounds like a modern day feminist or is a girlboss who, unlike all the other ladies, knows how to fight using a sword and so on while Aemond behaves like a dumb simp all the time and is constantly villainized by the narrative (as well as most of the commentators) for being a misogynist who hates seeing women in power because why is he not swearing allegiance to his half-sister in two seconds????!!! Not to mention that in most of those fics the greens are villainized to the point where they seem like cartoon characters, especially Alicent who is always characterized as the worst mother ever who doesn't love her children at all or as a religious extremist. I've had to quit reading some precisely because of reasons like these despite them being popular and amongst the fics that were very well written otherwise. Nowadays if I really want to read an Aemond/OC fic (or an Aegon one) I'd probably search and choose one in which the OC is a lady from some random house…at least with these ones you have a lesser chance of being disappointed down the road if you're a green fan.

oh definitely the aemond x oc fics really started to get very derivative after a couple of months and the template you provided is really spot-on. but those traitor!aemond fics (where luke is replaced by another black-aligned OC) were never really written by greens anyway, so it's funny that anon thought to complain about that in the askbox of a green account :)) i also noped out of quite a few fics when they started with the alicent-bashing, i just don't have the patience for that & it was rarely even nuanced criticism anyway, at least not in my travels

i don't really know what the state of the nation is nowadays, if lucemonds really discovered body horrror, but at the time i was complaining about it, their dead doves were, at most, ridiculous dungeon sex slave fics that would be on par, comedic-wise, with Unhinged by Vera Valentine or Stuffed by the Were-Turkey by Tate McKirk. and, like, good for you if you enjoy the silliness of it, bc it's never really that serious, but, equally, be aware that people are going to poke some lighthearted fun at you for it

the thing about lucemond is that, while there is definitely basis in the enemies-to-lovers trope or the idea of obsessing over your tormentor, at the end of the day they have to be honest with themselves and admit that they started shipping it after they watched hotd. it's an entirely show thing, no one shipped those two when only Fire & Blood existed. and, say what you will, but there is no shipping subtext in the show about this either, PLUS the visual discrepancy between the actors' ages makes it really not secksual at all. like, that is clearly a grown man and a barely pubescent teenager, there is no "story chemistry" to speak of :)) and i'm not even talking about the squeamish implications of that taboo topic, but there is 0 such <chemistry> or buildup in the text of FB and there is 0 in the media text of the two hotd episodes where both of them appear. not from the part of the actors and not from the part of the technical crew that filmed and edited it. i would love for someone to point out at least 1 such frame that indicated lust or longing or some kind of repressed romantic feeling. so it's only natural people are treating it as some kind of crackship.

anyway it's funny people are still in the grips of lucemond more than one year on. by all means do what you want, but, man, you gotta make some allowances for the goofiness of it all :))

Is it just me who finds both Lucemond and Helaemond gross? Because on one path, you're shipping him with his own SISTER, but on the other path, you ship him with his dead, underaged nephew - whom, might I dare say, was killed by Aemond (accident or not, he died, and it wasn't because a pigeon landed in his face, it was because Aemond decided to chase him).

So yeah, I definitely do feel like most of Helaemond shippers are just Daemyra stans in disguise, as most Aemond fans are shipping him Alys cause most of his fans hate Incest (rightfully so).

And there's really not much I can say for Lucemond other than the obvious - I understand that people are digging for a gay or bisexual Aemond, but really, couldn't they just ship Aemond with a male OC? Who's the same age as Aemond and DOESN'T get killed by him or cuts out his eye?

What is "canon": Daemon abandons and leaves Rhaenyra in danger more than once. Chokes her when upset. The writers have also been pushing back against this ship a little, saying it is a grooming scenario, he loves her but views her as a second best option to the person he truly wants, his brother (the subtext was there so it shouldn't be a big shock but..).

Helaena x Aemond shippers: "Aemond wanted to marry her, he said he would in episode 7. He let his grudge go against Luke (until he laughed) to turn his whole damn chair around and stare as she danced with their nephew, must be jealous. The kids are his & Helaena's. Did you hear the kids say 'Aemond' when Alicent said 'father'? Canon!"

How is this any different than any of the things the shippers claimed above?

It's not. I guess except the fact there is stage blocking and subtext to back up these 'headcanons'. Let's also not forget the leaks from BEFORE the show aired (or anyone shipped them) that stated the call sheet for Aemond directly said he was in love with Helaena. 😗

Every ship in this fandom has shippers that claim their ship is canon in some way. In no way is this habit exclusive to Helaemond shippers. It's getting a little old for only Helaemonds to be called out for this. Some fans need to ask themselves why it's only Helaemond shippers that make them this upset..🧐

Oh and let's get into one more ship. A ship that people early on and even after the season just ended said wasn't canon because there was no proof (there was, it was just rooted more in the subtext).

Rhaenyra x Alicent: Shippers said right away there were feelings between them but Antis said "no they are just friends, you are reading to much into it. Headcanon all you want but it's not canon."

What is actually canon - Milly, Emily, Hess, and others behind the scenes have confirmed that Rhaenicent had romantic feelings for each other since the beginning of the show and there is still love between them.
