#the saint #the sign of the claw #leslie charteris #terry nation #leslie norman #roger moore #suzan farmer #peter copley #godfrey quigley #geoffrey frederick #leo leyden #kenjin takari #burt kwouk #john rees #kristopher kum #michael chow #anthony chinn #per the end credits‚ this ep is based on a Charteris short story called Arizona about a nazi scientist trying to steal a ranch in the US of #A; Nation appears to have used only the ranch aspect in his script‚ bc this is another unusually topical Saint ep. we're in nowhere more #specific than South East Asia‚ but reading between the lines this is clearly Borneo at the height of the Indonesia Malaysia conflict #old Tel is surprisingly forthright in his politics once or twice; Simon's opening monologue is all about how‚ despite the use of euphemism #this really should be considered a war (an actual criticism leveled both then and since) and later uses a villainous white character to #suggest that perhaps colonialism isn't actually all that great and self governing for former colonies is right and proper. i mean it isn't #a hugely leftwing script or anything‚ but by Saint standards this is almost radical. there are some choices in language which are #regrettable (by both the villains and Simon) but notably this is maybe the first episode in such a setting to not feature any yellowface #and actually cast asian actors (a low bar but one frequently limbo'd under by 60s tv). Kwouk had worked for ITC as a regular on The #Sentimental Agent and would pop up in many of their shows. it didn't occur to me until the episode had finished‚ but i have no idea to what #the title refers; there is no claw nor sign of it‚ and whilst i get Terry couldn't exactly call it Arizona‚ it's a weird choice. also i #feel obliged to point out to any potential viewers of a delicate disposition regarding war films etc; this is perhaps the most bloodthirsty #episode so far‚ with Simon alone gunning down half a dozen or more ppl. the jungle sets are surprisingly well realised too for sound stages

“Hockey Fans Escape Death After Aeroplane Crash,” Toronto Star. March 21, 1932. Page 3. ---- The graphic story of how seven Timmins men returning from the hockey game in Toronto between the Timmins team and the Nationals crashes in an unnamed little lake six miles southwest of Moose Lake in the Night Hawk Lake region, between South Porcupine and Matheson, lived in an improvised shack without food for three days and three nights, and came out to tell the tale is illustrated in these exclusive pictures of the wreck obtained by a Star reporter, who flew from Sudbury to South Porcupine, thence to the scene of the crash. (1) The actual wreckage of the big seven-passenger travelair cabin aeroplane wedged into the edge of the bush when one of the wings cracked off and the rest of the machine, minus its landing gear, already gone, veered into the bush after its mad rush up the narrow ravine without the engine striking a tree. This saved the lives of the passengers, preventing telescoping and fire. (2) One of the chairs from the cabin on the site of the first night’s lean-to encampment near the aeroplane. (3) The shack the men built on the second day, one-eighth of a mile down the valley at the edge of the lake where they built bonfires and spread wing fabric to signal rescue planes. (4) Scene at the South Porcupine landing with the three rescue aircraft ready to fly to bring out the men after they were found Saturday. (5). Ed. Ahr, pilot, who found the marooned men, and flew them singly to Moose Lake, where they were relayed to the other aeroplanes, which could not land on the small lake. (6) Karl Eyre, of Timmins, who accompanied Ahr as observer, organized the flying trip, and was the last man to come in. (7) O. L. Scoop Evanss, of Timmins, who with Rev. Father Therieault organized the flying trip, and was the last man to come in. (8) Father C. E. Theriault, of St. Anthony’s church, Timmins, as he landed from the rescue plane, as big and jovial as ever. (9) J. R. Gauley, optician, of Timmins, one of the rescued men, (10) Lorne Stone, of Timmins, another of the rescued party. (11) Mike Pourpore, pilot of the National Air Transport, who flew The Star from Sudbury to South Porcupine. (12). E. M. Chinn, dental mechanic, another of those in the crash.

Pátý element - nejlepší film Luca Bessona

Konečně zase jednou kosmická opera jako řemen. Obyčejně filmy, ve kterých hraje Bruce Willis, stojí za podívanou; Hnidopich hned v počátcích svého vydávání velmi dobře hodnotil např. Dvanáct opic. Bob Urquhart does his best washed up waster with a heart of gold‚ and the #baddies include baby Nick Courtney as a wicked frenchman and Dudley Foster as... well. immediately i found myself wondering what on earth #he was doing with his voice when‚ horror of horrors‚ another character makes passing reference to his being Welsh. oh Dudley. sigh.#Courtney's villain is a big step up from his previous uncredited role in 3.14 and he gets to go real nasty (slapping around both women in #the episode). Chinn rather unfairly goes uncredited despite having both dialogue and an impressive fight scene. and of course lovely #Annette Andre plays a charmingly eager holidaymaker who gets caught up in Simon's adventure of the week and loves every second of it #oh!! and beautiful Sandor Elés! he'd not long made Evil of Frankenstein but hasn't much to do here (but does it with style and grace and..)#dreamy sigh

Congrats To The Grammys For Finally Getting Their Rock & Metal Category Figured Out

Following a pretty up-and-down rollercoaster ride the past few years, the Recording Academy has seemingly gotten their stuff together when it comes to their rock and metal categories.

After dealing with an embarrassing year last year where Avenged Sevenfold publically called out the prestigious institution for their lack of support to the metal community, apparently, someone at the Academy was paying attention as this year’s nominees might be one of their best in quite some time.

For Best Metal Performance, the Grammys see a lot of new faces including Between The Buried And Me, Deafheaven, High On Fire and Trivium as well as scene staples Underoath (Underoath were previously nominated back in 2006 for Best Short Form Music Video).

As for Best Rock Performance, previous nominees like Arctic Monkeys, Cris Cornell (rest in peace) and Halestorm are accompanied by the likes of Greta Van Fleet and, surprisingly and well-deserved, FEVER 333.

Another fantastic nomination comes in the Best Rock Song category. Sandwiched between well-known household names like Ghost, Twenty One Pilots, and St. Vincent is Bring Me The Horizon and, for the second time, Greta Van Fleet.

All in all, as much as we bash on award shows for their lack of support towards our hard rock and metal community, this year the Grammys got it right. Were there other artists that deserved a nomination? Of course there were. But considering how things have been in the past (Leonard Cohen Best Rock Performance 2018, Beyonce Best Rock Performance nominee 2017, Tenacious D Best Metal Performance 2015, etc.), we’ll take it.

The best available players after Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft

Houston offensive tackle Josh Jones highlights the best players for the second round on Friday.

In the end, after several twists, turns and false rumors, the beginning of the 2020 NFL Draft went as usual. And that goes beyond Joe Burrow going first and Chase Young going second. The Lions took cornerback Jeff Okudah at No. 3. The Giants took an offensive tackle. Tua Tagovailoa went to the Dolphins like most expected until people started assuming they would take Justin Herbert. The Chargers wisely took the best quarterback that fell to them in Herbert.

But not everything went according to plan. The wide receivers came off the board in an order few expected. Same for the offensive tackles. The first round was also filled with some stunners, like the Green Bay Packers moving up for quarterback Jordan Love or the Seattle Seahawks holding at No. 27 and taking linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

Those unexpected picks meant some big names fell out of the first round. Here are the best players available at the start of the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, based on SB Nation’s top 100 players and then some:
