It was Thursday morning, Thanksgiving day. Annie and Andy got up early to start with the dinner preparations. His brother and his family were coming to visit them and spend time together as a family. Andy insisted in Tom’s family to stay with them for the weekend but Tom opted for booking a room in an hotel arguing they were still in the honeymoon stage and didn’t want to hear them having sex. “I think it’s time for us to say what we are thankful for.” Martha said, “I am thankful for being all of us together having dinner as a family. I know I already told you this the day of the wedding Andy but we are so happy you are part of this family.”

“I am happy too, thank you Martha.” Andy said smiling a bit of blush on his cheeks. “Can I go next?” Martha nodded as she drank from her glass of wine.

“I am thankful for this dinner, you girls nailed it. so this is a big, long rant about sexism in the idv community bc it's been on my mind lately and i need to put it out there. this is what i've observed after almost four years in the fandom and been stewing on for a long-ass time. if you don't feel like reading an essay on how annoyed some random enby on the internet is, then don't click the read more and just keep scrolling. don't interact with this post if all you're gonna do is get mad; i'm not here to piss anyone off, just make observations. and if this isn't your experience, good for you and please direct me to whatever circles you run in because i need to be there.

so, i've noticed that the idv fandom is extremely shit when it comes to how they treat female characters, and nobody really.. talks about it?? the only person i've ever seen actually discuss it used it as a way to drum up sympathy for ada. which, if you know me, you know really fucking pisses me off. because there are SO MANY OTHER EXAMPLES of sexism in this community, but no, clearly because we have sympathy for a male victim of abuse we're being sexist towards his abuser.

the thing is. there is so much to point to when you talk about how the fandom is sexist. it's very common to see female characters boiled down to just a couple traits. mary?? hot mommy step on me. michiko?? soft and gentle and demure (don't think i won't notice the weird shit about how that's a very common stereotype of asian women btw i see it). demi?? hot and drinks a lot. emma and lily are "uwu mentally ill babies". annie is soft. emily is either an irredeemable monster or a bitch, depending on who you're talking to. patricia is scary and mean. sangria's a girlboss, grace is soft and gentle, martha is spunky. and if you ask anyone their thoughts / ideas on these characters beyond those short descriptors you get nothing. i'm starting to fucking hate the word "girlboss" because it's all anyone says in response to like half these characters.

male characters are given alllllll the nuance in the world you can't talk to an aesop fan without them going into their endless headcanons / theories on why he's the way he is or how he's not actually that bad of a person or how cute he is or whatever. look at norton, or eli, or orpheus, or luca, or edgar, or joseph, or ithaqua, or any characters in that vein, and look at how the fandom treats them. look at the endless fanfictions and character studies and ships and x readers and headcanons. and then look at what female characters get. nowhere near that much.

i feel like margaretha and emily are the ones who suffer the most from this male-centric view by the fandom. they're characters who are inherently intricate, whose actions can't be explained away as entirely good or entirely bad. but that doesn't stop people from actively trying. they're going to act like margaretha wasn't being horrifically mistreated by her husband and just decided to burn down the circus for funsies or whatever. they're going to act like emily isn't trying so fucking hard to help emma and repent for what she's done. neither of them are meant to be read as black-and-white, but people will try because if they have to use more than two braincells on a female character they're going to implode.

meanwhile you get paragraph after paragraph about the intricacies of the argument between luca and alva. you get so many people analysing the relationship between norton and orpheus and how they're both kinda dicks but also both kinda have points. you get endless people defending joseph's actions bc his brother's dead and he's terrified of growing old / forgetting the people he loved / dying. you get so many fucking stories about how y'know, edgar's not that bad actually.

AND I'M NOT AGAINST ANALYSING THESE CHARACTERS!!! idv, especially in recent years, has been doing some great things with character writing. like, fuck 'em, they've got their issues, but they're still really good with some stuff and deserve credit. but don't act like it's not obvious how so many people have overlooked women (and poc, don't think i've noticed people ignoring the intricacies behind william and ganji as characters as well in favour of "himbo" and "bastard who cares", but i'm white so that's not exactly my place to talk) in favour of their favourite skinny whiteboy of the week.

they're that way with older-looking characters, too. if an idv guy has facial hair, you bet your ass he's also getting boiled down to his base traits. jose's an alcoholic, kevin is self-sacrificing and likes women, kurt is a little guy, kreacher is Awful, charles basically doesn't fucking exist anymore. but again not the focus of the talk atm.

it's just. so upsetting. esp. since most of my favourite idv characters are women but everyone i talk to about them is like "oh yeah demi's hot" or "aww annie's such a nervous little baby" or "god patricia's such a cool girlboss". and even when the shit they say is positive in a vacuum it still makes me so upset bc THAT'S NOT ALL THEY ARE!! demi is kind and loving and hardworking in the face of a world that only ever hurt her. annie's life has been an endless stream of pain and heartbreak and the only thing she really wants is freedom. patricia is literally cursed and is trying to find her place in the world.

also. i fucking hate ada but she falls victim to this too. as much as i despise the "you dislike her just bc you're sexist" thing and as horribly uncomfortable as she makes me, don't act like you haven't seen how her entire character is boiled down to how much she "loves" this man. don't act like you haven't seen how her entire character, all of her promise and potential, is forgotten in favour of that fucking trainwreck of a relationship. i bet half the fandom can't tell me anything about her other than her relationship with emil. emil suffers from this too, with his backstory and personality and life of abuse becoming an afterthought, but again, not what we're focusing on.

this is not an isolated thing or confined solely to the idv fandom. this happens in fandoms everywhere. but because idv is so close to my heart i feel like i really need to talk about it. there's so little content of female characters when there's fucking daily content of male ones. and don't get me wrong, i do like male characters. norton is literally one of my favourite fictional characters and i love talking about / analysing him. but i can guarantee a lot of people wouldn't be so interested in him if he was a woman.

sorry, just needed to get that off my chest. mandatory "this doesn't apply to everyone in the fandom" and "if this doesn't apply to you then i'm not fucking talking about you". we were so against the ashley wood collaboration bc of how much he sexualised michiko (and women in general) but like. do y'all really care that much?? bc i really don't think you do.

Rifat Ozbek (1953) è uno stilista turco che all’inizio della carriera ha lavorato anche in Italia, con walter Albini . Negli anni ’70 è in Inghilterra per studiare architettura, ma lascia per iscriversi alla Saint Martin’s School of Art. I suoi primi abiti, commissionati da una catena di magazzini, sono ispirati all’Oriente. La collezione del debutto è dell’84. Si afferma a livello internazionale a partire dalla seconda metà degli anni ’80, con uno stile multietnico, opulento e fantasioso. Collezioni ispirate spesso all’arte, ma anche al costume: tra i temi più celebri, gli esistenzialisti, gli orientalisti, Capri anni ’50, i balletti di Martha Graham, alcuni film o libri, ma anche idee prese a prestito dallo street style e dal disco-look, ripensate in chiave prêt-à-porter. Nell’87 lancia la linea Future Ozbek. Ma è soprattutto dall’88 — da quando cioè inizia a collaborare con l’italiana Aeffe, azienda che produce e distribuisce le sue collezioni — che Ozbek consolida la sua popolarità e i suoi prodotti sono venduti in tutto il mondo. Affronta gli anni ’90 con una nuova visione: una collezione tutta bianca, ispirata alla New Age, che lo rende uno dei paladini della moda avant-garde internazionale. Sperimenta poi il video come forma alternativa di presentazione delle sue collezioni. Nel ’91 debutta nel calendario degli stilisti milanesi; nel ’94 sfila a Parigi; nel ’96 disegna i costumi per l’apertura dei giochi olimpici di Atlanta, lancia il profumo Ozbek, una linea Rugs and “Kilims” e partecipa infine alla Biennale di Firenze della moda. Nel ’97 debutta sulle passerelle newyorkesi.

Annie stopped at once on the edge of the dirt road, throwing the beaten-up Gladstone bag at her boots and rubbing her cheeks, fingers of her gloves rough on tender skin. Out ahead, the road rolled over a few short, grass hills before turning another corner, much like the one she’d just passed.

Behind her, nothing could be seen of the town, save the narrow spire of the church on the hill, poking up through the colours of the treetops. She stared back at it for a moment, sniffed and dropped down, sitting atop the bag like an overstuffed cushion at the side of the road.

She stayed there a moment, watching the dirt, only peering up for a moment when the sound of hooves and wheels came up the road at her right. But once she saw the single morgan horse round the corner, she dropped her head again, pulling the felt hood of her cloak down over her eyes.

Hearing the two-wheeler halt up the road from her, she kept her head down, even as she heard the driver’s soft murmuring voice to the horse– and the crunch of feet dropping down onto dirt and gravel. A few steps, a pause.

“Annie?” Martha’s voice was gentle as a cupped hand, but scornful as a mother’s. “Annie, what the hell are you doing?”

Annie lifted up tired eyes.

Martha stood in the center of the road, dressed in that lovely autumnal suit that matched the skin of a baked apple, making her look warm, sweet, and comforting. It was as if everything she did, she did in calculation. Annie turned her head away.

“What’s it look like?”

“Well,” she said. “You are terrible at it. Plenty of people saw you leaving. You walked right past my brother with that big bag. Where did you get that?”

“Your damned appraiser. It’s shite; handle’s broken clean off.”

“So that’s it? You’re leaving? On foot, without a word?”

Annie stayed quiet.

“Where will you go?”

“Don’t know yet.”

“There’s no plan, then?” Martha’s voice became taught. “You simply need to get away. From what? From me, Annie?”

“It’s not about you,” Annie lied sternly enough to believe it, picking herself back up. She dared glance back to where Martha stood, but the dour sting in her eyes was too sharp for Annie to linger in.

“How am I to believe that? Last night–”

She cut off, her voice going fragile, curling into itself.

“--You talked to me. You held me and it didn’t feel as though you were looking around for a way to escape. I thought I’d finally gotten through to you after trying and waiting, letting you come to me like a spooked horse!”

“It’s not about last night!” This also hit her gut like a lie, like lead, but in truth she wasn’t sure. “I just have to go, Martha. I don’t fit here.”

“Why not? You could stay and be a pet for the Fossers for a decade, what about my home is so inhospitable to you?”

“What can I offer you lot?” Annie asked. “Can’t read or write, awful shot, none too bright, me needlework's shoddy, I ain't Scavenger material– I'd be screaming my bleedin' head off if a twig snapped out there… I–"

"That doesn't mean a thing," Martha cut her off. "I want you here."

"What about when you don't?" Annie finally, truly met her eye. "I can't just hope you're gonna think me pretty enough or interesting enough forever. What about when you tire of me? Or when you've squeezed all me secrets out? What if my teeth falls out? Or me hair, and the poorest bastard wouldn’t touch me? Hm?"

"Why would..?"

"Y'never know!" She walked a full spin, giving herself a moment to blot her eye on her sleeve before turning back around.

Martha sighed. "Annie…"

"Don't pout at me so," she grumbled back. "What if you become so cross with me? I bumble, ruin everything so badly that you hate me now? You can't ever look at me like a good thing ever again? What will I do?"

"What if I do?"

Annie shook her head. "Won't be the same. You got a place; you'll always have a place. You've plenty folks want you here, I just got you and what if, one day, you just don't?

Martha glared a moment, her lip fighting to stay steady. Then, at once, she put her arms up.

"Fine," she said, stamping back to the carriage and for a quick, icy cold moment, Annie thought it was done, but then Martha ducked her head behind the dashboard and tugged loose a second bag from beneath the seat, bringing it back to shove into Annie's arms.

"What's this?" Annie asked, weighing it in her arms. It was a pretty carpet bag of orange and red, and hefty to hold.

"Your clothes, bit of food, a proper pistol. I noticed you'd abandoned half the gifts I gave to you, so I went and fetched them. Figured you needn’t insult me on your way out. Hm?"

"They wouldn't fit in…"

"Hence the bag." Martha slapped a gloved hand atop of it. "You’re welcome. Merry travels, wish you well."

Annie popped the snap as Martha turned her back again. The clothes lay crammed on top, sloppily packed last.

At the very surface, the nightgown she'd very intentionally left. She pinched the collar Martha had embroidered between her fingers, feeling the bump of the sunflower's disk.

Everything she did, she did in calculation.

"Martha!" she called, uncertain where in her body it came from.

"You will take it. All of it. I don’t care if you lose it or you're robbed for it, you'll take it."

"No, Martha."

Annie followed a few steps after her, until Martha whipped around, stopping her dead.

"What do you want from me?" she asked shrilly. "Do you want me to be terrible? To stop you? Tell you that– that I am the daughter of Sally Puck and I forbid you to go?"

She pushed back her hat as the brim began to slip down over her face.

"Because I'll do it. I forbid you." Her voice cracked. "I very selfishly want you to stay. You're the only thing that has helped me bear this horrible sadness that's in my home, in my family… in me! I don't want you to go!"

"But Martha, that's–"

"No! I don't want you to go!" She stamped her foot like a child, pushing her hat back once more and fumbling with the pin which had shifted and stuck out at an odd angle.

"God… damned hat!" She tore it painfully from her head, tossing it down for the wind to catch and sweep it into one of the low, roadside bushes.

"Martha, your hat." Annie sucked her teeth and put the bag on the ground to chase after it.

"Leave it," Martha called.

Annie ignored her, gently freeing the hat from brambles and plucking a twig from the velvet.

As she walked back, Martha had her arms around herself. A wide band of hair had ripped free in her outburst and now the breeze blew it across her pained frown.

Annie returned to her, kindly tucking the loose strand behind her ear and placing the hat back atop her head as Martha grinned hold of her shoulders.

"I don't want you to go," she croaked.

Annie shook her head, meeting Martha's eyes, blue and heartbreaking and unfair to her. She took her face in her hands, so her thumbs could brush away the tears from her cheeks.

"I don't want to go."

"Don't go."

"I won't."

They kissed each other a few times over, through sobbing breaths as their voices stammered.

"I'm sorry, Martha."

"No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Just– just come home with me? Please come home."

"I will, I will."

She held her face close to hers for as long as she seemed to need it, letting the atmosphere quiet to the hush of leaves blowing over long-grasses. A moment more, outliving the distant clang of the church bell, the impatient stomping of Tally on the gravel. All the while, Martha kept her eyes closed, the center of her brow nicked, when Annie urged her cheek into her cupped palm, she solemnly leaned into the touch, blowing a drawn-out breath.

“Are you about ready?” Annie eventually asked.

Martha kept her eyes closed. “Will you just try again another day?”

She shook her head. “If I’m thinking of being stupid again, I’ll let you know, alright?”

“You’d better.”

Annie laughed, and Martha let her eyes blink open with a tight-pressed smile. Annie pulled her head close to kiss it once more, then started in a backwards step to retrieve her bags, holding a finger up in thought.

“Was– was I given a shoddy bag on purpose, you think?”

“Very likely. I am quite loved here.”

Annie scoffed, shaking her head as she turned away.

She's been in 8 stories/runs ever, and 2 of those were oneshots in anthologies and another 2 were horrifically bad and completely contradicted the other 6. Please

Arizona Annie:

OK, so she has like nine appearances total, and only the first four are worth reading IMO.

Annie is a grossly underrated character, and even though her four stories are shallow, she has a lot of potential as a character and I would love to see Marvel do more with her (that doesn't involve randomly pairing her with colt)

SAY YES TO THE DRESS.

Summary: It’s time to choose the dress.

Warnings: NONE.

A/N: You have no ideas how many “say yes to the dress” videos I watched to write this! Also Melissa Benedict is not a real person. The final dress is at the end of this piece of writing.

Melissa Benedict, was one of the most famous wedding dress designers of Boston. And to get an appointment with her was almost impossible, it was known that some people made appointments with a 2 year gap before the wedding. But Annie and Andy only had a year, and right now it was only 6 months till the wedding. Annie had seen other options of dresses in different magazines, but no matter what, she always like best one of her designs.

“I can believe we are going to Melissa Benedict’s shop!” Sharon said looking to the rare mirror to see Annie.

“I know! I can’t believe Andy found a spot for me.”

“Thank god he felt awful for not paying attention to you,” Mark said who had his eyes focus on the road. “I hope next time he gives you a new car.”

“Remember we have to pick up Martha. She would kill me if I don’t take her to see the dresses.”

“What you mean I can’t go?” Tom said.

“I don’t want you to see the dress.”

“I’m your brother, not the groom! I have every right to be there and give you my input in what you should wear to the wedding.”

“No, besides, who will take care of Denisse?

Annie, Sharon, Mark, Martha, Tom and little Denisse arrived to the boutique at 11:00. They walked into the shop and it was packed! They could see there were at least 15 brides inside, along with their families. The shop looked expensive, white, silver and gold on the walls, twinkle lights in some corners, a big chandelier hanging from the reception roof.

“Welcome to Melissa Benedict!” A young blonde woman greet them, “Do you have an appointment?”

“Yes, my name is Annie Johnson.”

“Annie Jonhson? Let me check.” The girl quickly type the name on her computer, “I’m sorry, there is no Johnson. We have a Barber.”

“That’s me! My fiancé’s name is Barber.”

“Marking territory already,” the girl giggled. “Melissa will see you now, let me just call her.”

“Wait, what????”

A couple of minutes later, Melissa Benedict herself walked towards them.

“Hi! Welcome to my shop!” She shook Annie’s hand, “Annie, right?”

“Right!”

“Your fiancé called me, saying he messed up and wanted to make it up to you; and who am I to say no to a man who wants to make her woman happy?” Annie laughed, “He sounded very sorry. Are you ready?” Annie just nodded, she was in awe, “Perfect! Follow me.” They walked further into the shop, “So, who are all these people?”

“OH! These are my friends, that is my sister in law, and that’s my brother and my niece.” Annie finished as they sat in a small living area.

“And, what exactly are you looking for?”

“Well, I was looking for a simple dress, mermaid cut, you know like form fitting. I’m not very into stones, I could do lace, but I don’t want sparkles.”

“Do you have a budget?”

“Yes, two thousand.”

“Awesome! So, I will steal the bride from you guys. I’ll meet you at the dressing rooms.”

While Annie went to the dressing room, Melissa walked around the shop choosing different dresses for her client. She was taking a dress out of the rack when Tom approached her.

“Hi, miss?”

“Oh, Hi! Annie’s brother?” she said trying to remember his name.

“Yes, Tom, hi. Look I saw a dress when we walked into the shop and it is definitely not what my sister has in mind and I was thinking you can put the dress into her options.”

“I can do that. Just remember we can force her to buy it if she doesn’t like it.”

“I understand, I just want to see her in that dress.”

“Sure! Show me which one?”

Tom walked almost to the entrance and pointed to a dress in a mannequin.

“Oh my god! Beautiful choice! I’ll get one for her.” She when back to the back and disappeared.

Annie was sitting on a chair inside the dressing room with a satin white robe waiting for her dresses. The door opened and Melissa walked in along with another girl, carrying 4 dresses each.

“Ok! So I have some choices from what you told me you want, we have white, nude, off white, champagne.”

“Those are a lot of options.”

Annie walked out of the dressing room, a white dress with a heart shape cleavage, it has stones in the bodice, and a short trail at the bottom. She stood in front of the mirror right in front of her family.

“So, what’d you think?” Melissa asked.

“It’s pretty.”

“You don’t seem too convince.” Sharon said.

“It’s just the stones, I don’t like them. The dress it’s beautiful,” She turned to see Melissa, “I don’t want to be disrespectful.”

“No problem, darling. I’m not offended.” She smiled.

“I don’t think that’s the dress for you.” Tom said frankly.

“Yeah, me neither.” She thought for a moment, “I want Andy to die when he sees me!” Everyone laughed, “Too much?”

“Of course not! It’s your wedding day. Although I don’t think you want to be a widow so soon. Let’s get you another dress.”

Four dresses later and Annie was still in the dressing room. She was starting to get anxious and stress.

“Tell me what’s wrong?” Melissa said.

“What if I don’t find a dress?”

“We will find you a dress. I need you to breath.” Annie took a deep breath, “We are here to have a good time. I don’t want you to stress out. If I need to take out 30 more dresses, I will.” Annie nodded, “On the meantime, I have a dress your brother chose.”

“I’m sorry?”

“He just want to see you in it.” Melissa opened the bag where the dress was in, “It’s not the style you are looking for but it is a gorgeous dress. How about if you amuse him? You can relaxed for a bit.”

“Ok.” Melissa took out the dress, “That’s… a bit puffy.”

Annie walked out of the dressing room for the fifth time of the day. When she walked pass her family, all of them gasped.

“Oh my god!” Sharon said.

“You look so pretty!!!” Mark said.

The dress was a soft nude ruched tulle ball gown. It had a detailed beaded bodice and a low back.

“Oh God.” Annie said softly as she saw herself in the mirror. “This is gorgeous!” She turned to see her family and Tom was crying. “Are you ok?”

“You look beautiful.” He sniffed and cleaned his eyes. “Mom and dad would’ve been so proud.”

“Stop! I don’t wanna cry!” But you know she was already teary. “How much is this dress?”

“Well…” Melissa began, “It’s five thousand.”

Annie’s face immediately fell, “That’s three thousand more.”

“Do you like this dress?” Tom asked.

“I love it! Who would’ve thought you had good taste!”

“If you want it, you can have it, I can pay it for you.”

“Are you serious???”

“Yes, of course.”

Annie ran the short distance between her and her brother almost tackling him. “Thank you!!!!!”

“Ok, let’s get you a veil.” Melissa left them alone for a moment to return with a thin tiara and a long veil that match perfectly the color of the dress. She helped Annie put them on. “So this is pretty much how you can look in your wedding.” Annie turned to see herself in the mirror one more time, “We can always change the tiara and the veil; remember it’s just for you to have an idea of the complete look.”

“I love it!”

“So is this your wedding dress?”

“This is my wedding dress!!!!”

“Perfect! Let’s take it off, so you can take it home.”

Four dresses later, Annie found the perfect dress. The one she knew Andy would die when she sees her walking down the aisle.

One less thing to worry about.

Six months until the wedding.
