Castle bells rung loud, startling Y/N awake.
“There’s been a breach! Intruder! Intru—”
Then, silence.
Y/N sat up, flinching in surprise as the door slammed open to reveal Namjoon.
“What’s going on?”
“There were reports of an intruder. The captain of the guard told us to bring you to the Gongju’s room.” Namjoon explained.
“Come on, Y/N,” Jimin appeared, voice low and grave. “We have to get you there fast,”
Springing into action, Y/N pulled on her footwear and left the quarters as Namjoon and Jimin drew their swords out.
“Jimin, Namjoon, what do you mean intruders?”
“I heard it was some generals who were left alive when Emperor Yunki pillaged Silla,” Namjoon explained. “Maybe they’re back to get revenge.”
Jimin only nodded. “If it is, we’ll hold them back, then.”
“Yes,” Namjoon agreed, stopping infront of the gongju’s door and introducing the guards. “These are the best men available. Jimin and I were ordered to go into battle.”
“You’re going to fight?” Y/N asked, her eyes softening as she looked over at Jimin.
“I’ll be alright, ongju.” Jimin nodded back.
Y/N pursed her lips and, breaking royal protocol, pulled the guard in for a hug. “Be careful, Jiminie.”
Jimin sighed and gripped the princess, tight. “I will.”
Gongju Sun opened her door, eyebrows raising at the sight in front of her.
“Y/N, I believe we should head inside.” Sun explained, her eyes observing the scene in front of her with a frown. “Now.”
“Right.” Y/N pulled back slowly from Jimin. “Will you be okay?”
“He’ll be fine, Y/N.” Namjoon spoke, ignoring glances from the guards at the gongju’s door.
“Be careful too, Namjoon.”
After a small period of hesitance, Y/N stepped forward to give the tall man a brief hug.
“Be safe, both of you.”
Y/N turned to the guards at the door with a careful smile. “And, ah, be safe too.”
“We promise we’ll be safe.” Jimin smiled. “Now, go.”
With a small nod, Y/N headed in the room and hearing the door lock behind her.
“Really, a guard?” Sun’s disappointed voice filled the room. “You should aim for a prince, Y/N.”
Y/N turned to Sun, her mind suddenly racing with thoughts about the mysterious raven-haired man she met a few days ago.
“Then I guess I’m not the type of person to go after princes.”

“There’s a siege at the palace! Silla warriors have come to kill the king!”
“Not if I don’t do it first.” Yoongi cursed as he raced past the carnage and ran after the king who escaped his grasp.
With a sword, Yoongi breezed past the enemies that came and dodged who he could.
He made his way over to the throne room, seeing it empty—nothing but a kingless throne and bodies.
His eyes locked onto one man at the side, frowning at the Goguryean chain mail—similar to what the mad king wore earlier. Was this Yunki?
Yoongi raised the man’s helmet, letting out a hiss.
No, it wasn’t Yunki. It was the emperor of Baekje. Y/N’s father was dead in the middle of Goguryeo’s throne room, with the mad king nowhere to be seen.
Yoongi cursed before zeroing in on one thought. Y/N.
His feet immediately took him to the royal suites, rushing past the gigantic rooms and stopping at the empty room filled with Y/N’s belongings.
The sheets were torn, and the wardrobe turned over. Tables were smashed in half and curtains pulled down. There was no blood.
“Y/N? Y/N!”
Yoongi ran around the castle, searching each and every room and tearing down soldiers and knights in his way.
“Y/N!”
His feet led him up to the royal suites, stopping short at an open door with dead Baekje guards.
Yoongi cursed, his head shooting up in surprise as a loud scream came from the room. “Y/N!”
He shot into the room and stopped as he saw Gongju Sun crumple in front of an imperial soldier in Silla armor, a sharp sword impaled on her.
Yoongi blinked as the sword left the gongju’s body, her form collapsing on the floor—eyes wide open and blood staining her lips red.
“Sun! No!” Y/N screamed from the other side of the room; a loud smack heard as another soldier backhanded her.
“Y/N!” Yoongi said, his eyes wide as he catches the attention of the soldiers.
“Yoongi!” Y/N gasped as the soldier in front of her unsheathed his sword.
The other soldier, sword still coated with blood from the gongju, surged forward towards him with arms poised to strike.
Yoongi glared and dropped the sword in his hands. “I don’t have time for this.”
He pulled his revolver from his holster, clicking the safety off and shooting clean through the soldier’s head. Yoongi quickly turned his aim to the one in front of Y/N and released another bullet.
As soon as the soldiers fell, Yoongi scrambled over to Y/N and gathered her in his arms as she sobbed in his shoulder.
“You’re okay, you’re fine.”
“I was so scared.”
“I know,” Yoongi breathed. “Were you hurt?”
Y/N sobbed as she pulled his head down. “Kiss me,”
Yoongi complied, leaning down and planting a kiss on the girl.
Keeping a tight grip, Y/N clutched on his collar—desperately reciprocating to the kiss like it was her lifeline.
Yoongi pulled away, breathing a sigh of relief as he leaned his forehead on hers. “You’re alive,”
“I am, but Sun,” Y/N eyes widened, welling up with tears. “Sun, no…”
Y/N pulled away from him and crawled over to Sun’s body with a sob. “She’s dead, she’s dead!”
“I know,”
“Yoongi, she’s dead!”
“I’m sorry,” Yoongi sighed as Y/N returned to his arms once more, clutching onto him like he was the last thing she had.
For all she knew, he really was.

I’ll come back, okay? I have to go before they catch me, but I’ll be back tonight.
Y/N sat in Sun’s previous room, the blood and bodies cleared out but still fresh in her mind.
Wearing a fresh set of clothes and Yoongi’s green coat draped over her shoulders, Y/N stared blankly at the wall.
Three sharp knocks on the door snapped her back to reality.
“Yoongi?”
The door slid open to reveal a different raven-haired male.
“Jimin!” Y/N gasped, launching herself forward to embrace the guard. “You’re okay!”
“We’re okay,” Jimin replied, squeezing the girl.
Namjoon appeared next to Jimin, giving the girl a small smile.
“You’re alright too, Namjoon.” Y/N sobbed in relief, briefly embracing the man.
“We are.”
Y/N wiped her tears as she returned to her position by the door, hand clutching Jimin’s arm to comfort herself.
“You should go home, Namjoon. Taehyung, Jungkook and Jin must be pretty worried.” Y/N smiled, tucking her hair behind her ear.
Namjoon’s eyes widened and Jimin only shook his head.
“How do you know them?”
“I met them once.” Y/N explained. “They were fighting in the middle of the road.”
Namjoon shook his head with an amused smile. “You saw that, huh?”
“I was there, yes.” Y/N winced as Jimin rolled his eyes.
Namjoon straightened up, still smiling. “You have to go with us. King Yunki wants an audience with you.”
Y/N sighed softly as she started to pull on her footwear. “Why? I already know my family is dead, what more can he say?”
Namjoon looked at her sadly and sighed. “I don’t know, but come on. The sooner you get there, the sooner you can come back to your room.”
“Alright.”
“Ongju Y/N of Baekje’s presence was requested by the Emperor.”
The guards in front of Emperor Yunki’s library stepped to the side, giving way to the princess.
Y/N turned back to Jimin and Namjoon, who nodded in encouragement.
“We’ll be right here,”
Y/N nodded back, stepping forward and closing the door behind her.
Her eyes wandered around the place before locking onto the man by the shelves. “Your majesty?”
The man raised his head, his back still turned to the girl. “Ah, yes. Gongju Y/N.”
Tilting her head at the familiar voice, Y/N breathed. “Ongju.”
“With the loss of the emperor and your sister, the throne’s sole heir—It would have been more fitting for me to call you Empress instead of Gongju, is it not?” The man turned, taking Y/N’s breath away.
“Yoongi?”
The man raised his eyebrow. “My name is Yunki, but no matter. We can get to know each other in the upcoming days. Just don’t call me by my name outside private quarters.”
“Right,” Y/N gulped, her eyebrows narrowing in confusion. What was going on?
The man signaled for her to take a seat on a chair, which she did as she marveled at his face.
It was… Yoongi, but he seemed cruel. The was an air of cruelty about him.
His hair was long and blonde in a ponytail instead of a black, uncombed mess. He was wearing a silky black hanbok with golden details. His hands rested idly on a long sword in black leather sheath with carved linings. He had a long scar placed vertically over his right eye, stretching from forehead to cheek. The differences ended there.
Even his voice, the way he moved and spoke—was so Yoongi.
But it wasn’t him.
This wasn’t Yoongi. This man had a presence that was more sinister than the one she grew to love.
Y/N slowly exhaled then smiled. “Forgive me for prying, but I have to ask—what will happen in a matter of days, your majesty?”
“In a couple of days, we will continue the treaty forged between Baekje and Goguryeo.” Yunki spoke, humming as he sat across the princess with an air of dominance about him. “As your sister, the gongju, is dead and you now own the throne—I now own you.”
“Pardon?”
“We will marry, gongju,” Yunki declared. “A few alterations need be done, of course, to fix the details set for your sister to accommodate you—otherwise, we will continue as planned.”
“I-I don’t—”
“Now, I have a few more details to smoothen out after the siege.”
Y/N opened her mouth, looking for words to answer to the emperor who only smirked and stood.
Emperor Yunki opened the door for the princess with an amused smile. “That’s all I called you for. You can leave now.”
Y/N nodded silently, making her way out before Yunki held her wrist and leaned in close.
“Oh, and now that you’re mine, tell your watchdog, ‘Jiminie,’ that he’s never allowed to touch you once more.” Yunki said to her ear and looked over at the said guard who only blinked in fear. “And if I see him stepping out of line again, he will be beheaded. That is a promise.”
“Yes, your highness.”
With a satisfied smirk, Yunki released her wrist, which was almost purple from his grip before planting a harsh kiss on her lips.
The king pulled away, smiling cruelly.
“Good, now leave. I have a prisoner to deal with.”
“…. Yes, Yunki.”
His kiss was so different from the ones she always wanted.
He wasn’t Yoongi.
