Vegas 23
Vegas was silly, way too much unnecessary show and all it really did was making me want to rewatch the Ocean's movies.
But here are my thoughts on Vegas and my favorite drivers 6,5 months into liking f1:
1. Alex Albon
I've got to say, quali made me fucking happy and the first few laps, when both Williams could hold their positions. I'm sure no one really expected them to stay up there, but I feel like they would've deserved at least some points.
Also, when he fell during the Netflix Cup.
2. Sergio Perez
VAMOS!!!! I'm so happy for Checo!!!
I was so scared, after that turn one ichident, but luckily everything turned out okay. Even though I feel like Red Bull don't celebrate that championship 1-2 enough. It seems like they tend to forget that Checo brought Max his first Championship AND Red Bulls first 1-2.
Also, I was so stressed in that last lap. Why did it have to be so fucking close again? My heart can't handle that. Plus, I'm getting really mad at the German commentators again. They just keep bullshitting on Checo to the point that I actually think about watching with the English commentary. And then when he does good in the race, they just act so surprised as if he hadn't done this before, qualifying badly but then totally killing it in the race.
3. Charles Leclerc/Lewis Hamilton
My little Ferrari heart was happy for the majority of the weekend, but it also broke a little. Being a Ferrari fan comes with tons of mixed feelings.
Also, I was a little mad at Charles for overtaking Checo on the last lap, but I can't really be mad at him. He deserves that 2nd place and I'm happy for him, even if he himself is not happy with 2nd.
I feel a little bad, because I haven't been rooting for Lewis at all, but I just needed Checo to get that 2nd place in the championship. Now that that's out of the way, I can root for Lewis again :)
Also them having a few moments together this weekend made me happy.
4. Lance Stroll
I'm so happy!!!
Here the commentators were shocked as well, because Lance is like Checo a victim of their constant bullshitting. He's showing the world that he does deserve his seat and I couldn't be happier for him!
5.  Lando Norris
I'm sad. It was a horrendous weekend for him. Even without the crash. I just hope he really is fine and doesn't just say that to not worry us.
Also can we talk about how wag coded Max Fewtrell is? I love it.
Honorable mentions:
Logan. I was so happy for him in Quali! I just wish the race would have ended a little better for him. And then I watched a clip of him and remembered how fucking American he is. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Americans. I love Americans, but they can be real silly. And Logan is often very silly.
Carlos. I refused to wake up at 5am to watch fp1, waking up to "red flag because of SAI", "FP1 will not be resumed" and "FP2 will be delayed for 2 hours, because the track needs to be fixed". Let me tell you, I was imagining the worst. I thought Carlos had sent it into the wall or something. It took me a while to understand what had actually happened. And how dare them give Carlos a fucking 10 place grid penalty for THEIR mistake? I'm furious! Well at least he got P6.
Max. I have finally decided that I love Max. I am no longer torn when it comes to him. My favorite thing about this weekend (after Checo securing 2nd in the championship) might be that Max tried to help Checo on that last lap. I really didn't expect him to, but that was sweet, just a little too late. But that's not his fault.
Liam. I miss him. He seems like a fun guy and I really liked him and Yuki together.
That's it, thanks for reading.

Hello! I know the weekend is just starting so please feel free to answer this after the JapanGP but I would love to know your experience. I’m thinking of going to Japan next year and would love to know your opinion about if it was worth it, what ticket you bought, did you stay in Tokyo or closer to the track etc. Thank you! ☺️
under the cut 😊
General
Most organized GP I’ve been to hands down. If you’ve been to Melbourne or Monza (PURE CHAOS. LIKE ANIMALS THAT GOT OUT OF THEIR CAGES). This is completely the exact opposite of that. Japanese people are so respectful and polite. Never experienced a fan stage where everyone is sitting down, not pushing around, and so calm and quiet.
Idk if you’re going alone but If you’re worried about that I did not have any issues being alone at all however, I did meet up with a girl I met at the Australian GP but we had different grandstands.
Suzuka GP
Thursday/Media Day
Like Australia, Thursday is open to the public. The pit walk (Morning) is open to all ticket holders. All grandstands are open to everyone so you can check the main straight! (Pit lane and Podium View).
Friday
FP1, FP2 and Fan Stage
Yuki and Daniel's fan stage this year was after the last shuttle bus so we had to take a taxi to the train station
Saturday
FP3, Qualifying, Eve Festival at the Fan Stage (open to all ticket holders) and Eve Festival at the Grandstands (you must apply online to be part of this.), Kids Pit Walk, Night Pit Walk, and Track Walk (open to all ticket holders)
Sunday
Race day and Track Walk. Only the main grandstand v1 and v2 can access the main straight.
Ticket
I have an f1experiences ticket so I have pitlane access, a guided track tour, and a photo with the trophy. But it's unnecessary since you can access the pitlane and track with a regular ticket anyway. However, with my ticket, I was able to see drivers on the pitlane and track (Daniel running on the track😭) and the cars up close. I think if you attend the Thursday morning pit walk you'll be able to catch the drivers.
Traveling
I flew to Osaka since I’ve been to Tokyo before and took the shinkansen to Nagoya. However, you can also fly from Tokyo. Suzuka is pretty hard to get to since it is somewhat of a rural area. There isn’t much accommodation around the area so most people stay in Nagoya and take the train to Shiroko station (5.6km from Suzuka).
There are 3 types of train to get to Shiroko.
1. Limited Express - reserved seat (sells out on race day fast), quickest way, 42 minutes, regular ticket + limited express ticket or tap card + limited express ticket
2. Kintetsu Nagoya - non-reserved seats, regular ticket, or tap card. takes about 55 minutes.
3. Local - only if you’re desperate. stops at every station. will take an hour or so.
During the grand prix week, shuttle buses are available from the station to the circuit. You can use a tap card or they have a booth there where you can buy tickets. It gets crazy on race day so get there early!
Food
Few vegetarian or vegan options. I don't think there are any halal or kosher options either
ALL IN ALL, IT WAS WORTH IT!

On This Day in F1: February 29
Present: Bahrain Day 1
History: 1932 Masten Gregory is Born
Today was the start of the Bahrain race weekend with two hour long practice sessions.
In FP1, much to the annoyance of Zak Brown, was led by Daniel Ricciardo in the RB as Yuki Tsunoda in the other RB was close behind in P4. In FP2, the two Mercedes led the session with Lewis Hamilton at the front.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I won’t lie that despite knowing better this is fueling some of my most delusional thoughts. And well if you’re not the littlest bit delusional, then how do you have fun?)
To conclude the short month of February, we look back to 1932 and highlight a driver who pioneered American participation in European-dominated Formula 1.
On February 29th, 1932, Masten Gregory was born in Kansas City, Missouri.
Tumblr media
Called the Kansas City Flash, Masten Gregory is considered to be a motorsports pioneer and hero for several drivers. On his first Formula 1 World Championship entry - the Monaco Grand Prix - he stood on the third step of the podium. It was the first for any American. Gregory pioneered American involvement in Formula 1 as the first US-born driver to regularly compete in the heavily European-dominated Formula 1 World Championship. Throughout the early 1950s, there had been several American drivers participating in Formula 1 races here and there, but until Gregory, they hadn't regularly participated in races.
He was also one of the few race car drivers to wear eyeglasses whilst he raced. Gregory wore very thick glasses that have been described as thick as Coke bottles due to his nearsighted vision. Even today, very few drivers wear glasses when in a race car. Though notably, today, Jenson Button was seen wearing glasses while wearing his helmet.
Tumblr media
Masten Gregory raced in Formula 1 from 1957 to 1963 and then made a return for the 1965 season. In his 46 official Formula 1 entries (38 starts), Gregory was on the podium three times and scored a total of 21 points. He also competed in various non-championship races and the 24 Hours of Le Mans during his active years.
In the 1961 24 Hours of Le Mans, Gregory and fellow American Bob Holbert finished 5th overall and first in their class.
In the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, Gregory and Jochen Rindt finished first overall and in their class while driving the Ferrari 250LM.
In 1962, Gregory won the non-championship race at the Karlskoga circuit in Sweden.

Vasseur to sky Italia f1
“Let’s start talking about the good result. Carlos”
“Yes, Carlos had a very solid Saturday. We had a technical issue this morning, but he managed to put everything together when it counted and brought home a good result. In the race everything went smoothly, he didn’t have to take any risks with traffic and I believe he would have been faster than Perez too. He got good points.
Tomorrow we’ll be starting second and third, so we’ll have another good opportunity”
“Now, about Charles... it has been a very hard day for him”
“Yes, it has been hard. Already this morning ii wasn’t easy for him driving the car in these conditions. He suffered a lot... and then during the race every time he’d try to overtake the driver in front he’d lose the position to the driver behind. I think the most important thing is to move on and focus on tomorrow. Tomorrow it will be dry and we need to find back the pace we had on Friday”
“How can we judge the behaviour of the car in these conditions? the difference in between yesterday and today was quite big”
“Well today it’s very hard to judge. Since this morning the track has changed a lot. Let’s focus on what we’ve seen yesterday in the dry and hope we’ll be consistent tomorrow. Tomorrow it will be a challenge for everyone ‘cause we didn’t do a long stint on mediums. Starting second and third it will be a good chance to take home some good points”
“Looking at the drivers’ performance, it seems like the key, in this kind of weekend, is trying to adapt to the conditions of the track. If we look at today’s results Alpine did well with Ocon and badly with Gasly, while yesterday it was the other way around. Mercedes suffered today too. Sometimes it’s quite confusing looking at those results from the outside”
“This format, with only FP1 forces you to focus on all you need to test in just one hour: different tire compounds, fuel loads,... You end up not doing even two consecutive laps with the same conditions. Then we had qualifying on a dry track, while today it was completely wet. Basically we never had the same tire compound and the same track conditions for more than 2 consecutive laps. This for drivers it’s an extremely challenging task, ‘cause from lap to lap they’ll find themselves in a worse or better situation. This however it’s a characteristic of the Redbull ring: when it’s dry everybody is very close to each other, but when it’s wet the confidence and the feeling you have with the car come into play, making the difference in terms of pace bigger. Tomorrow it will be a total reset and we’ll have the conditions we had yesterday”
“Isn’t it unfair for the other drivers to say that Max in driving in a championship of his own?”
“Well, another championship I wouldn’t say... he wasn’t that far from Perez at a certain point. No, no... it’s true he’s doing an exceptional job in every kind of condition, wet, dry, high fuel load, low fuel load, DRS, no DRS... He’s always there. Clearly his confidence is growing and in these conditions it’s very hard to beat him.
We have to focus on ourselves. I believe in the last three weekends we did a few steps forward. Today Carlos is on the podium and tomorrow well’ start from the front row and we’ll try to build a good race”

Oulton Park, April 2023.
Some words following last weekend on the V2. It was always going to be a busy weekend for myself and the team. There were a few unknowns so I had to hedge my bets and run in two classes. My usual SSTK1000 class on the Suzuki was relatively simple. I knew my set-up from last year and the bike was all good following Silverstone so all I had to do was put tyres on and fuel it. The qualifying format for Oulton was changed but it didn't really affect me as I was never going to be top 18 in the stocks. Saturday was two sessions of 30 minutes in both classes. FP1 was dry for both. Stocks I was mediocre and way off PB pace but a good run out all the same.
V2 was a little more troublesome. I was out on fresh rubber and went for a middle of the road guess at suspension. As soon as I came out of Cascades on the outlap I knew the bike wasn't right. 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear all came as normal with the quick shifter but when I went for 5th it wouldn't change up with the throttle open. I tried a couple more times but it continued to not cut the ignition on numerous up-shifts. Now I will ride a three legged donkey as long as it keeps going forward at pace so that's exactly what I did. At the end of the day it's a motorcycle and I know how to ride one without any aids. A simple roll of the throttle meant I could continue to ride without the QS. The blipper for the downshifts was still working so I didn't have to worry about a manual blip. I managed just 7 laps and then at the start of lap 8 when I was just getting going I went for 5th gear down Lakeside and there was nothing there. Physically nothing! The QS had snapped half way along and the lever went limp. I managed to get back to pits in 4th gear but that was session over. Job on for the crew to sort it for FP2.
Conditions for FP2 for both classes were mixed so I didn't do many laps. I opted for intermediate tyres and spent most of both sessions dipping in and out of pit lane doing sighting laps to see if the circuit was drying. I left it until 15 minutes left to do a decent stint on the V2 and did my fastest lap of the session on the last lap. I did just the last 10 minutes on the stocker but decided discretion was the better part of valour and didn't really push. Most riders in both classes didn't even bother going out as they knew they would go no quicker than FP1.
Qualifying for both classes consisted of Q1 and Q2. The Superstock and Supersport were back to back so potentially I could've been out on track for best part of an hour on two different bikes. Fastest 18 riders from FP1/2 automatically went through to Q2 and the remaining 27 had to slog it out in Q1 to try and be in the fastest 9 to move into Q2. It was wet, really wet so I took no chances on the Superstock bike. I used my board and did the bare minimum to qualify. I really didn't want to be in Q2 and realistically I know my place on the grid (somewhere near the back) so there was no point risking the bike, or myself, when I knew I had to qualify the V2 as well. Getting hosed down to get mud and grass off prior to a qualifying session on the Ducati was not on my agenda. I qualified P39 for the Stock grid.
Once I'd had a drink and my mechanic ran to Parc ferme to get my transponder from the Suzuki I was ready to go. We put enough fuel in for the 15 minute session to keep weight down. That in itself was an indicator of my expectation levels. It turned out to be incorrect. I find new wet tyres a bit strange for the first couple of laps, probably psychological but I always go steady. I got faster as Q1 went on and dare I say it the V2 is a lot easier to ride in the wet than the Suzuki. I felt like I could run more corner speed and get on the gas harder and earlier. It just felt nice. I ended up pushing on and was blissfully un-aware my team mate had tucked in behind me. We both did our fastest lap on the last lap. I had seen P13 on my board as I crossed the line and was made up to do that considering it was my first time out at the BSB on the bike. Little did we both know we had made it through to Q2. We both had to go back to the awning in the paddock to re-fuel as teams are not allowed to re-fuel in pit lane.
Q2 started promptly and as we were already up to speed with conditions and tyres we both went for it straight away. I decided to pull the pin a bit as the track seemed to be drying slightly. I got quicker lap by lap and again did my fastest lap on the last lap. Almost a full 3 seconds quicker to qualify 24th from over 40 riders. I think I have a wet set-up now that's for sure and the quick shifter seemed to behave itself.
There was no Superstock race on the Sunday, just a 12 lap sprint race for the Supersport. The team got the bikes cleaned and prepped for a dry race as that's how it was looking but with about ten minutes to go the rainfall radar was showing wet stuff imminent. I made the call to change to wet set-up whilst the bike was still at the awning. It hammered down and we ended up getting held in pit lane for a considerable time whilst the circuit crew cleared standing water. We eventually got underway with an 8 lap dash. Again it was very wet but thankfully I'd had plenty of laps in the rain already so was up for a good old scrap. Turn 1 and 2 were bonkers in the middle of the pack, all I could see were a couple of rain lights. Just waiting for riders to go down in front of you is a challenge as decisions need to me made really quickly if it happens. Thankfully everyone got through Cascades and Island Bend and it all settled a little. I ended up getting passed by Tom Tunstall on his V2 and he gapped me initially. Now I've raced against Tom before and he is a good rider, I was consistently 5 or more places behind him in the Ducati Cup so I accepted the challenge and went after him. Riding behind someone for a few laps you soon get to see where they are weaker and I could see opportunity to pass. I got right up on his back wheel out of Shell Oils and tried to maintain that all the way through to Druids with a view to out braking him into Lodge. I didn't want to risk it at Hizzys on the brakes as the scope for going down and taking him with me was high.
It took me a few laps to come up with plan but he knew, he kept staying towards the centre of the track into Lodge on the brakes to stop me trying to go under him. On the third to last lap I swapped to the outside. He was compromising his entry which in turn compromised his exit. I could ride a more sweeping line and get on the gas earlier after carrying the better corner speed. I figured I could make it work. Penultimate lap I did what I had planned and got on the gas hard down into the dip before Deers Leap to ride around the outside and out drag him to the line. Being a bell end I thought I was on the last lap and had beat him so I looked across as we crossed the line. He just kept chin on tank and it took me a split second to realise we had just started the last lap. I was way off line for turn one at that point so had to brake, re-position and get after him again.
I managed to catch him and repeat exactly the same move even though he tried even harder to prevent me. 0.050 on the line is as close as it gets and P18 for a first result on the V2 was very welcome.
Monday was decision time. I'm old compared to most of the other riders and as much as I feel 20 there's no way I could've ridden a 14 lap Superstock race then jumped straight onto the V2 to do 16 laps in the Supersport. I made the call to go to race office and pull out of the stock race. There are always reserves so it meant someone was going to get a race, it just so happened that one of John McGuiness's crew was in there when I went in. He got a slot which meant he got a race and more importantly a signature for the Island. He did well too, finished P20 from P40 on the grid. Significantly better than I would've done.
I was starting P20 for what was to be a dry race and crucial dry track time with the right group of riders. I've not ridden in Supersport before but at the BSB you get to know the other riders in your class. I know a few in Supersport but most I don't so I was a little reserved the first few laps just in case there were any axe murderers out there. I just watched what was going on, took a few overtakes on the chin and got settled. I ended up having a lonely race. 4-5 second gap to the bikes in front and for most of the race a 20-30 second gap to the bikes behind. The exception was the last couple of laps where I caught and passed Harry Leigh. He was suffering arm-pump I think and he came back to me in the latter stages. I spent most of my race chasing lap times and working out how to get the best out of the bike. I tried different shift patterns, different braking and throttle techniques for various corners all to try and see what worked best for me and the bike. I finished P25 and bettered my lap time from Ducati Cup a few years ago.
Overall I had a very good weekend on what is generally a new bike to me. The Supersport V2 is not really anything like the old 959. It has less power and what power it has it delivers in a different way I think. The wet map is very good but without traction control there is still scope for turning it upside down so even though the bike is nowhere near as powerful as the Superstock bike I still have a healthy respect for it. I am confirmed as riding it again at Donington BSB so I will build on my Oulton Park outing and start chipping away at little set-up gains to try and move further up the field.
As always a huge thanks to True Heroes Racing for giving me the opportunity along with all the sponsors. Particularly Laguna Motorcycles, they have provided the team with FOC bikes since day one and I have had the pleasure of riding both 899 and 959 machines provided by them. It was good to be back on an Italian race bike again that they have provided.

Finally, we're back Down Under again!
Hello there!
Tumblr media
I'm excited about Australia! I don't even know why, but I am. I'm watching everything quite late actually, but here we go.
Press conference - Thursday
I honestly don't care about what Piastri has to say. I get that he's an Aussie and that we don't have Danny boy to cheer the pressers up, but it's still a nope for me. Sorry not sorry, kid.
I saw on TikTok that Sharl is wearing the bracelet a fan gave him and it's true! How can this boy be this sweet? Seriously, I can't help but love him more for that.
There's not really been anything else worth mentioning apart from the fact that George can talk for HOURS on end. Jesus kid, sometimes it's too much 🤣
Only thing they said that has some substance to it is what they said about the Free Practice sessions that our friend Domenicalli wants to suppress from the race weekends. It's not the most fun thing to watch, but for them those sessions are crucial to learn and see possible things to fix before a race.
I hope practice is more interesting today at least, although I'm not really expecting it to be.
Free Practice 1 - Friday
Fp1 is starting out with some drivers experiencing bouncing again. God, didn't we get passed this already? Silly me, of course not. Kevin going off track... It's starting off as quite an unstable session.
Tumblr media
Lewis' car snapping too... What is this?!
Nothing much going on for a while now, time stamps remaining similar to the 2 previous race weekends for now with a couple exceptions.
Checo going off track too after losing his rear. Now that's a surprise. Aaaand Yuki losing the car too going to the gravel, the grass... All of it. What's going on today? Ouch he almost crashed into Lewis while going back on track. Lewis clearly didn't like it...
Tumblr media
Oh shit Kevin... The session was Red Flagged, I guess because all of the gravel on track? Oh no, it's a GPS issue. WTF. And Zhou almost crashed into a RBR and AM. Poor kid, that must've been quite the scare in that corner.
So now there's been an update about the "touching the car" issue during a penalty serving during a pit stop. Now, finally the decision is that any little touch on the car would be considered working on the car, so it'd mean taking an extra penalty. The only thing that should be worked out now is that the FIA need to do their jobs and serve the penalties during the race unless whatever happens takes place right at the end of the race itself.
And now Sid the Sloth spins and complains. Short Yellow Flag and on we go. And now Sargeant goes off too. Session Red Flagged again and now the session is finished. Good thing is that Lewis apparently got P2. I say apparently since I feel like nowadays Lewis is barely on screen lately unless it involves someone "more interesting". Whatever, but good for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point I'm thinking of semi-overnight it to watch FP3, which in Spanish time happens at 3:30am I believe? And I'll watch Quali when I wake up, otherwise I might die 🤣
Free Practice 2 - Friday
I hadn't noticed until the beginning of FP2 that Alpine are still running the pink cars. I thought that it was just for 2 races. What an ugly color 💀
Lance fucking up Checo's lap is just the light of the session for me. And a Ferrari quite the same. Very nice.
It's raining now, should be interesting. OMG Lance, what are you fighting the wall about? 🤣 Many drivers going into the pits due to the rain, apparently a those menacing clouds are making an appearance.
Darth Toto is the most interesting of the last 20 minutes so far. That says a lot 🤪
Tumblr media
Lance almost spinning and going slightly into the grass was a near miss. Lance please, I DO NOT NEED A HEART ATTACK. And he comes knocking again in the gravel. Jesus Lance, stop this 🥲
Lewis and George both slipping in the exact same place. Is this Melbourne drift now? I'm so sorry.
Tumblr media
And that's about it for today 🤷🏻‍♀️ Pretty plain session overall, but a little hope's there for the rest of the weekend.
Free Practice 3 - Saturday
So we're really having 4 DRS zones this weekend, which I had missed yesterday. Not sure how that'll go, but it'll be interesting for sure.
I don't get what the fuck is going on here that there's so many problems with traffic again and again and again. It's been way to frequent now.
One of the Spanish DAZN commentators, Toni Cuquerella, who's an engineer and has worked for years in F1, bashing Franz Tost like a pro. And he's right to do so after Tost's comments on not trusting his engineers. Buddy, you're the one who hired them in the first place, so maybe it's them who shouldn't trust you after all the years after TP and not achieving much at all 😗
The session has been Red Flagged and there's a very big chunk of a chasis, maybe from the Haas. Not sure whose is it, but good thing that's been reported quickly and the session stopped. Oh no, it's from De Vries' car.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhou almost hitting the wall, good thing he didn't. He's trying to ge the car back on track carefully. Ouf...
So that's it again. Except the traffic/GPS issues and everyone going off track quite a bit, pretty calm. Finally done with Free Practice, I wouldn't dream of waking up to watch Quali on time. Hope I can manage not to cry tomorrow waking up before 7am 🤣 When the fuck did I become this whinny? FFS.
Anyway, I'm finally going to sleep.
Peace out!

Going thorugh the regulations and some questions are coming up:
For the second day of track running there were media restrictions concerning Sprints in the case of two free practices.
As far as I am aware we only have one this weekend.
How will that change things.
There is also the meeting question. Usually there is a meeting 1 hour after FP1 but considering that's less than 2 hours before Qualy, will there be expectations made?
Not a question but the tyres are the following for sprints: 4 sets of intermediates, 3 sets of wet weather tyres, 2 sets of hard (which is funny considering you are probably burning through that thing in sprint qualy), 4 sets of mediums (again one being gone by sprint) and 6 sets of soft. Considering drivers will only really habe 1 hard tyre, there's the question of how much variety of strategy is actually possible. There's the exception of a wet season (Qualy/practice) where an intermediate tyre is used where they will get one additional one (only if it has been declared wet.)
There's also the big risk of a driver not being able to take part in P1 which would subsequently mean he can't start the race weekend as partaking in free practice is mandatory for being able to do the weekend.
It clearly states in the rules that a second free practice season is supposed to run the day before the race. I guess they just overlooked that?
It seems that while the car is still under parc ferme conditions they can do certain repairs. What they can't do is anything with suspension which immediately guarantees a pit lane start.
We are apparently also ignoring the rule that states sprint determines the race grid.
What is also interesting is if the sprint races will have the same rules apply as normal races.
A car in a sprint race doesn't classify it it completed under 90%

Looks like photogr finally figured out what George’s best angles are (he has a lot, but on Dutch GP we’re been rightly served). Also, it’s FP1 time already? Holy shit. Not want to jinx it so won’t speak until after quali but have very different vibes this time than Spa, and I’ve always been on point up to now. Fingers crossed!
MF you made me panic and I had to check my calendar, we got 2 and a half hours till FP1 damn! And yeah you can’t judge the W13 till q3 of quali, usually bc Lewis pulls his “woahhh am I gonna make it to the last group, what if I only set a banger lap 3 seconds after the checkered flag” bull. Absolute bastard.
And good fucking lord I can’t speak about these photos. How am I supposed to be respectful and non objectifying this fine Friday morning. He looking up I- my thoughts w in the gutter they’re in the sewers.

Finally have the time to write a little something about MY experience at the Dutch GP.
Let me start off by saying it’s already the best weekend of 2022. No doubt. Nothing will top these days I’ve had. I’ve seen everyone I’ve wanted. I’ve got an autograph of everyone I’ve wanted and it truly has been a more than amazing experience. YES EVERYONE. And NO I won’t elaborate much more on that. But it was amazing.
Last year my tickets were cancelled because of Covid (I bought a solo one for the Friday tho), so they were valid for this year. However a bit before the race my friend found out she bought tickets for SAT/SUN and since I didn’t want to miss the Friday I bought them for my own. Then I found out there were tickets for a pit walk on Thursday so I also bought that to go alone.
Wednesday - I found out the 2 Ferrari-boys were at a certain location so I went by. Though I didn’t get a selfie/autograph with them then, I did met people who I eventually hung out with the entire weekend. After the Ferrari-boys left we went to the circuit and met even more people who I hung out with/stayed in touch with the entire weekend. Of course it was of all ages - very young and VERY active kids in search for autographs - but also older ones. And no one gave a damn about Max vs Lewis bs. Everyone just supported and respected whoever you supported. Like it should. We end up seeing a few drivers already!
Thursday (Pitwalk day) - In the days before the pit walk  I saw that team LH Holland would meet up and since I didn’t have anyone to go with I thought that’s a good idea for me. After Wednesday I could have gone with those new friends, but I thought it was very fun to meet all these Lewis fans. And if I didn’t enjoy I could always say bye and bounce.
Short story - because it’s already loooong and I’m only at Thursday - it was a fun day. We met up with his photographer who took 32r78483 videos and photos of us and also asked how late we would walk by. In the end we could have seen Lewis then - because he told us a few minutes before out time slot was ‘Lewis will be there in 5/10min - but out time was delayed… We were so bumped out because we missed him by so little and the marshalls at the track were kinda… Merp to us. The owner of the fan-account got a shirt of Lewis’s new merch though with his autograph at the end of the photographer so that was SO special. And SO sweet. It truly shows how much he cared even if he couldn’t come and meet us anymore.
At the end of it I waited for the drivers to leave and saw Daniel (coming out of his car) and Carlos/Charles leave but it was really chaotic. The organization put fences on as the drivers were leaving since everyone was pushing to the front to see them. With the fences on it was a bit saver and better organized (tho again why didn’t they do that immediately?), but that was the night Lewis chose to lay down on the back of his car. I was already confused why Angela and his bodyguard were there without him but then we all went ooo he was in the back. Looking back at how bad it was for Daniel and the Ferrari boys I don’t know if I should laugh or if it’s something he did out of fear. While I left the circuit I immediately saw a few of the friends I made the day before and chilled some with them. Carlos/Daniel leaving here.
FRIDAY - Friday started of REALLY early since one of the friends I made wanted to see a F2 driver and they start very early. So YUP. There I was. Didn’t even see Arthuro (who I wanted to see) since my first selfie with him was ugly AF haha. I waited for a long while outside of the fence, then went inside to wait a little more by myself for Lewis (in the end someone I met the day before stood by me hahah), but he was so late. Sir came in at 11:27 and FP1 started an hour later dfgdfjgsfdhj.
[Lewis during FP1 and me in a sea of Orange Army haha]
Walked to my seat and immediately another lady with a Mercedes hat - in my row - greeted me so nicely I almost thought she was in the Team LH group of the day before hahah. But she was just happy to see a fellow LH fan. I did have a good time between the Orange Army. No weird remarks blabla. They did went a bit quiet after Max engine problems in FP1 though…
During the break of FP1 to FP2 one of my new friends texted me and said he wanted to fulfill our plan: sneak into the paddock. He was successful last year (seen the vids) but when I saw what I had to do I said: no mannnn. I would like to not break my ankles haha. So we ate and chilled and then I went back to my own seat. As FP2 was coming to an end I checked my WhatsApp messages and saw one of my new friends texted me with a pic asking if I was ok. THATS WHEN I SAW LEWIS POSTED US ON HIS INSTAAAAA. I truly died. I was in shock. Disbelieve and in the meantime saw him leave the pit (I had seats for the main straight on FRI).  Tears were slowly falling down on my cheek and I didn’t even know why, but just the fact that he noticed me/us a little. And knows he’s supported here was amazing. Just the fact that he looked at that pic and uploaded is *tears*.After FP2 I met up again with that friend since he had a great idea to meet the drivers.
Then the only real example of hate we/he got because of our Mercedes outfit (besides little but none were as big as this). In Holland we love to curse with cancer (I don’t. I think its as trashy as can be), but a lot of people do. My new friend was walking behind me and all of a sudden I hear a guy being not so nice to him. So he walks before me and the he tells him: “Cancer gay. With you cancer Mercedes shirt.” AND I SAW RED. No No I thought. ! So I told him to STFU idiot! And some more. He ignored, but 100% heard me I have a very loud voice. Some other guys also started talking to us (and I just hoped they didn’t went with them because it would have been too crowded, but I was too pissed too care xD).
Then that curse guy hugged him (me going ???). Let him go and went all tough guy again: “Everyone here is supporting Max right? What kind of a Dutch person are you, huh?” *me sees red again*: STFU, STFU and continue to walk please, idiot. You’re not even wearing fucking Merch so what are you even talking about supporting Max?” Then he asked me who I was supporting then and I told him to get his eyes checked and he fucked off.
Little sidetone because I know a lot will think this: But the guy wasn’t white at all.
We quickly forgot about this though and continued our night and it was one of the best nights of my life.
SATURDAY - The first day I actually went with the friends who I booked the tickets with haha. I did went inside alone because I all of a sudden thought they had drivers Q&A’s in the fanzone. I end up meeting a few friends while waiting there but in the end the Q&A was only on the MainStage and not even heard on the track… So the video of Lewis speaking Dutch we had to see via Twitter WHILE STANDING INSIDE THE TRACK. Bs…
My friends eventually arrived a bit before FP3 and that was also a fun day. Got some compliments and one im still not sure of but I’ve posted about it here.
The night was something out of an action movie scene but yeah… That’s also not for main hahaha
SUNDAY - Started of early. Got to meet who I still wanted to meet. Went to the track, saw lewis pass by during the parade. A lot of Super Max being played - have to say the song is a catchy jam hahah - and then the race happened. As I’ve said on here several times after Hunagry I really thought a win was possible here, but Mercedes had to FUCK IT UP. I was so pissed at the end, but clearly the Orange Army wasnt. Truly pissed off.
Those guys of yesterday did speak to me a few times during the race saying how good lewis is doing, ‘no win please but podium!’ (All in English again). I yelled so loud when he overtook Checo and they had to laugh hahaha. The atmosphere was great. No hate.
[Lewis driving past me P1 🔥]
Tumblr media
Only after the race we went after the podium etc. We all left immediately and I wanted to go quickly because I knew how much alcohol was consumed. At one point in the fanzone - we had to cross it - one person said: *holds hand up* Hamilton. You have to wait.”
So I also told him to STFU and walked passed him.
So that’s a few minor things (the first one being the biggest) happened, but that’s not even the memory I will have of this GP weekend. Truly best weekend of 2022
Of course I heard many stories from the other people when they met drivers or just whatever happened during the weekend. But if I write that down it’s gonna be WAAAAY too long. And it already is hahah. It was just great!

((hi! local catmun here. by now it has ALREADY BEEN new years about a couple hours over on my side of the world. and i wanna be a sentimental little MF for a little bit
Tumblr media
((these past couple months. getting the chance to come to this wonderful community, to meet all these wonderful people, to make all these new friends, to make all these wonderful experiences and to share the silly little adventures of a bisexual green cat from a chinese inspired world
((it just. it warms my heart. it makes me so happy. it makes me SO fucking happy.
((i dont know how many words ive written for this blog, but i will say
((in these past couple months, from the start of this blog to now, i have overtaken the amount of pages that were on the original wildcatofgreen blog. sitting at 157 pages of content here. compared to the old blog's 121.
((121 pages that were intermixed between hiatuses and long stretches of things happening.
((it's not like i didnt have passion for the blog--i started it right before freedom planet 2 was announced. the passion was there, the dripfeeds of content filling my brain were already set in motion and i did little blurbs questioning these characters we had never heard of before
((in the old blog's canon, askal was lilac's and carol's teacher. there was this overarching plot point about askal's training with these two to make them stronger and better, just in case a new threat were to occur (([if it wasnt obvious, i was setting up for fp2, of which i thought it wouldve been coming out Soon™. lmaoing at my old self she did not even have a sliver of a guess]
((i figured out reasonable dates for lilac's, milla's and carol's birthdays by scouring ziyo-ling's deviantart for the dates the characters were originally posted! (([lilac aug 19th (([milla may 28th (though with recent revelations her birthday might as well be the-day-they-found-her] (([carol dec 27th] (([and to complete the quadrio, neera's birthday would obviously be fp1's release date--july 21st]
((back then i even imagined a weird, strained relationship between carol and her sister. i had thoughts about how shitty the scarves were. i had ideas and headcanons about a LOT of stuff [and i still have to sift through all of it at SOME POINT i SWEAR IM GONNA DO IT]
Tumblr media
((but i think the thing that... probably got me to stop doing it in the first place was... the lack of people to do it with? the lack of people to build these stories with and to make these things happen
((this isnt to say i wasnt rping with people back then--i obviously was. there's 121 pages to prove i was. and i remember hitting the milestone of getting 200 followers on that blog. it's probably not sitting at that number anymore with all the deactivated blogs and such ((but at it's peak! i had people who wanted to interact with me. i had probably a lot of the same things i do now.
Tumblr media
((maybe, just... i was the problem, back then. i can see it from how standoffish i was--how my rules were written, how aggressive i wrote x y and z thing. and maybe someone who goes back to look at the previous blog wont get these same vibes i get ((but youre your own worst critic, right? i know myself--i know how scared i was to be friendly with people, to show myself and to kind of... have fun with things. i still have that fear now--to be more ooc than ic. that people dont care about ooc because the blog isnt about me--it's about carol!
((i still kind of hold that philosophy. y'all ain't follow for catmun y'all followed for carol, and i dont wanna flood up my blog with a bunch of unnecessary posts, no matter how much i wanna archive that stuff and keep it for prosperity's sake it kind of feels like i flooded up the blog from what's supposed to actually be there.
((i wasnt nice to myself much. i was kinda awkward but i can forgive myself for that. its been seven-to-five years since any of that. i didnt allow myself to be... well, me.
Tumblr media
((but now. its kind of overwhelming, to see how much love and support this little blog gets. how people who i feel i can truly call my friends are so into the things that happen here. how people can enwrap themselves into this little silly lore i have. there's this passion here from... so many people i write with. its. its exciting!!!
((ive never felt so confident about my writing. ive never felt so happy about writing. ive never felt so excited to move on with another crazy wacky thing.
((i still think long time no see dragon girl is my magnum opus on this blog--something that ive tried to build up a while through hints about lilac's thought process without actually just, letting you see as her, and stuff through carol's thought process. the moment where it hit, the moment where lilac went on her little monologue about being the scarf's princess, the moment where lilac looked at carol and asked "Would you?" is, i think, one of the best things ive written on this blog hands down. ((and that all spawned from the funny question of ''what if lilac was homophobic and gay''. like that idea was just a funny joke to myself for a while, but the more i thought about it the more i went ''this could actually be something''. ((and then i started rping with azure and their lilac obviously influenced that lilac and now the two lilacs are one in the same ((it helps that past blog's lilac didnt DO much and i didnt have these thoughts about the love angle back thing. made everything more free form now (([though tbh if i DID i could just RETCON WHATEVER I WANTED HAHAHAHA]
((that's all not to say that i dont think the other things ive written on here werent good--not at all
((the first big plot with sonarmun, that all spawned off because an anon said "get married already" (([btw anon carol is currently getting married right now because of YOU. THIS IS YOUR FAULT, WHOLEHEARTEDLY <3]
((the date night, which TOOK A WHILE TBF but it was still loads of fun ((the first bapho/carol thread, which ALSO TOOK AWHILE but is still one of my favorites ((tangle/carol interactions give me life i love these two idiots so anything with THEM ((that first lilac/carol thread with azure [that is still unfinished, i intend to go back to it SOMEDAY] with all their cute interactions and all the neat things like carol's bike being decidedly not-as-cool as it is now and lilac's earpods being SHITTY and all the other things to show just how fucking far theyve come
((those are just some notable ones but there's so many things i think are just. GOOD. so many interactions i just. LOVE.
((big RECENT highlight? the most recent lilac/carol thread--carol's little tirade took. a while to write. but it all flowed off the page. and like, reading lilac during that thread genuinely made me wanna cry
((if you want another big recent highlight its the fights in the battlesphere blitz arc--just for the fact that i was going into something i had. NO confidence in [fight scenes]. and here this was gonna be a whole fucking arc just ABOUT fight scenes, built up for WEEKS at this point. ((i was so scared to do any of it. scared to write the fights, scared to do the character interactions, scared to pull off the cordelia plot point. but the fears werent warranted--because it all came out good. ((i am especially proud of the askal fight and the second spade fight--the one AFTER zao was an asshole. i think those two are real fucking highlights and im so happy with them
((point being...! its. all of this, all of this
Tumblr media
((it makes me so happy!!!! this is the most fun ive had in years with writing!!!! this is the most passion ive had in years with writing!!!!! this makes me wanna do it for as long as i possibly can!!!!! im so fucking happy!!!!!!
((and a lot of it, a LOT of it, is thanks to you guys
((the people who follow me and want to interact with me and want to see more of the stuff i do and more of the ideas i have and
((all of it! i
((i didnt think i could be so happy about rping. i didnt think people like this would exist, frankly.
((i wouldnt be able to do awesome EVENTS like this. i had this lingering anxiety in the back of my head that the wedding would be too imposing on other writers and i didnt want to make it this big, grand, amazing event that it should be because like
((i was scared people wouldnt be down for it
((but everyone i sent in an ask for was... totally down for it!!! and even now people are doing things and interacting and just
((im so happy. im crying. im fuckin' crying because all of this feels impossibly awesome and i dont even know what to say
Tumblr media
((thank you, all of you, from the bottom of my heart. no matter who you are, no matter if i interact with you a lot or dont interact at all, no matter if youre just a personal blog who sometimes reads my stuff, no matter what.
((thank you so much
((i didnt think anything about making the carol blog again, other than to get some stuff done with sonar and carol, and to maybe throw a silly cat at some people
((but all of this? all of this?
((i cant express how grateful i am. i cant express how happy this really makes me feel. i cant express how glad i am to be in such an amazing community full of roleplayers. i love you all, i really, really do.
((this blog has barely been up for three months. and ive already made memories and stories i know ill keep until the end of my days.
((i cant wait to continue writing with you all. i cant wait to see what the new year will bring us. because, fuck it
((its gonna be really, really fucking fun
((EDIT 4:52am 1/1/23: HAPPY NEW YEARS. I FORGOT TO PUT THAT IN OOPS MY BAD

((i love you all. i really, really do.
((thank you.))

FP1:
Nearly everyone took a trip to the gravel or grass or hit the kerbs
Brief red flag when Alex's car spontaneously stopped working
Ollie Bearman drove for Haas and did a great job
Bryan Bozzi made his debut as Charles's race engineer
P1: LEC | P2: RUS | P3: SAI
Tumblr media
FP2:
More lawnmowing
Max still unhappy with his car
Both Williams cars taken apart during the first half of FP2
Some minor griping on the radio, but overall a pretty straightforward session
In the end the "Italians" were at the top: Yuki (adopted home country - lives 10 km from the track), 3/16 Italian Oscar, and Italian-citizenship-when-? The King of Imola: Charles Leclerc
Tumblr media
P1: LEC | P2: PIA | P3: TSU
Tumblr media
FP3:
Two red flags: first Fernando Alonso crashed into the barrier. Driver okay, back end of the car not so much.
Second red flag was Perez with a minor crash that messed up his front wing. It was cleared and the session was resumed with only a few minutes to go.
This led to some crazy driving as drivers were rushing to make it to the line to still put in a quali sim lap. It got a little hairy for PIA and MAG , and LEC made it seem like he was racing for a win.
In the end only Norris was able to still put in a lap and went to the top of the times table.
P1: NOR | P2: PIA | P3: SAI
Tumblr media
Quali:
ALO almost binned it again in his barely-fixed-on-time car and ended up placing P20 before SAR had a laptime deleted.
HUL surprised everyone by going to the top of the list (until Max came along - whi as it later turned out had given Nico a tow)
And Oscar impeded K-Mag which led to another trip to the stewarts for Kevin, but this time the penalty went to Oscar.
Another surprise when Checo landed at P11 in Q2 with Hulk and both RBs making it through.
In Q3 HUL returned the favor to VER by giving him a tow that led to Max getting a top speed 10 kph higher than the rest of the field and putting in a monster quali lap, improving his own P1 time.
Oscar put his McLaren in P2, but after a 3-place grid penalty, he will start P5 with the 2 Ferraris on the row in front of him
Yuki got his highest quali result ever: P7
P1: VER | P2: PIA | P3: NOR
Tumblr media
Petit's Race Notes:
Overall pretty uneventful: no crashes, no safety cars, not even any beef between Oscar and Carlos!
ALO started from the pitlane after late setup changes.
Alex picked up a penalty for an unsafe release, after his front right tyre was not properly attached at a pit stop. He limped around the track, and made it back out after another pit stop, but ultimately retired as the only DNF of the race
Alonso's brakes were on fire as he left the pit lane. He eventually also retired towards the end of the race, but was still classified as P19.
Perez and Hamilton both had little excursions in the gravel.
Max was shown a flag for track limits and struggled with his tyres towards the end.
For a bit it looked like Charles would overtake Lando, but in the end Norris walked away from LEC and caught up to Max.
Perhaps with 1 or 2 more laps, NOR could have passed VER, but in the end we had an exciting few laps and professional sim racer Verstappen took another win after already putting in a stint in the Virtual Nurburgring 24 Hours, which his team ended up winning as well.
Top 3: P1: VER | P2: NOR | P3: LEC
Fastest lap: George Russell
Driver of the Day: Lando Norris
Fastest pit stop: Red Bull/Sergio Perez (2:09)

Leclerc says Friday in Canada up there with his best of the season as Sainz promises more to come from Ferrari
Carlos Sainz has said that there should be more performance to come from himself and Ferrari as the Canadian Grand Prix weekend develops, having placed third in Friday’s practice timesheets despite “struggling quite a bit” with his brakes – as team mate Charles Leclerc reflected on one of his best opening days of the season so far. Sainz finished a tenth away from the pace-setting Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on a day that saw FP1 curtailed by circuit CCTV issues and an extended FP2 session disrupted by two red flags and rain. FP2: Hamilton leads Mercedes 1-2 during disrupted second Canadian GP practice session “Not having that hour, or two hours, in between sessions to learn from the car and do a few set-up changes is a limitation, but we had a decent Friday,” Sainz commented as he reviewed his running. “I’m still not feeling 100% at home with the car, especially under braking I was struggling quite a bit today, which we start to understand why now and we will try to make changes for tomorrow.” Stressing how crucial brakes are at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he added: “It is the most important [factor] and I felt like today we didn’t get it right with a couple of settings. We will try and get them better for tomorrow and I’m sure we will be more competitive.” This feature is currently not available because you need to provide consent to functional cookies. Please update your cookie preferences FP2 Highlights: 2023 Canadian Grand Prix However, with rain forecast for Saturday’s final practice session and grid-deciding qualifying session, Sainz admitted that dry-weather performance may well go out of the window. “We just need to make sure we nail all the sessions from now on,” he said. “It will be tricky with the tyres always here between extreme, inter, dry [tyres] – the track dries pretty quickly. I think it’s going to be a challenging day and it will be all about making no mistakes and getting through it.” READ MORE: Verstappen expects ‘a few surprises’ during qualifying in Canada as he reflects on ‘tricky’ first day for Red Bull Leclerc, meanwhile, noted a very positive feeling at the wheel of his car from the outset, as he rounded out the top five positions – Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin slotting between the Ferraris. “Well, in terms of feeling, it’s among the good Fridays for us,” the Monegasque reflected. “I had a really, really good feeling with the car, so that’s positive. Leclerc was a quarter of a second slower than Sainz during FP2 “Tomorrow will be a completely new day and honestly I don’t think there’s much that we can bring from today to tomorrow, as it’s going to rain probably. It’s going to be very interesting, but it’s been a positive Friday.” As for whether he and the team made any adjustments after his shock Q1 exit last time out in Spain, he continued: “No, we didn’t do any significant change. We are obviously learning this package more and more, so we are optimising it. Everything we’ve done to the car went in the right direction, so that’s good. NEED TO KNOW: The most important facts, stats and trivia ahead of the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix “[The long runs were also] really good, so that’s positive. But it’s only Friday, so we need to wait and see. It’s been a positive Friday, now we just need to have a clean qualifying tomorrow in very tricky conditions and then see what’s possible on Sunday.” Asked if it represented one of his best Fridays of the season so far, Leclerc signed off: “In terms of feeling, it’s been up there, yes.” via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Post-Race McLaren Strategy Analysis
Foreword: Y’all know me, I try to make sure I know everything I can before I actually say anything, and this analysis took me nearly 5 hours last night. I didn’t go to bed until like 3am because I was so busy double-checking all my facts lmao. Special thanks to @imthebadguyyy & my dad for being my test readers :)))
During the Dutch Grand Prix Race Session this past Sunday, September 5th, 2021, McLaren made some strategy calls that presented as the team favoring Lando over Daniel. The opinion that came to light was that McLaren were making Daniel into the secondary driver, which is something he had come to the team in hopes of avoiding. This opinion, while it is a valid one to express, isn’t one that holds much water when you zoom out from the context of that set of radio transmissions.
McLaren is a midfield team. They aren’t focused on winning the championship; just on getting the highest place they can in order to get the most money. Their best chance of doing that is by ensuring they get the most points out of each race.
Despite the fact that Lando has been with McLaren for five years now, he isn’t their number one driver; McLaren doesn’t have one. They can’t if they want to maximize their opportunity for points. What they can do, though, is prioritize whoever is consistently delivering the better results on a week-by-week basis. Thus far, that driver just happens to be Lando. Which makes sense, considering that Daniel is just starting to really feel comfortable in the MCL35M.
Lando has felt more comfortable in the car over the course of the 2021 season. An obvious explanation for this is that Lando has been with the team since 2017, where he signed as a Junior Driver, and has had much longer to adapt his driving style to the car. This is Daniel’s first year with McLaren. His previous seasons have been spent, for the most part, in a RedBull-designed car. Even when he was at Renault, it was expressed that the cars handled very similarly to a RedBull. The MCL35M, as he has expressed, handles very differently than what he had grown accustomed to, and doesn’t particularly seem to fit his driving style. As the 2021 season has progressed, however, Daniel has shown he has made progress in adapting to the car.
Comparing qualifying results to race results, Daniel has consistently started further back on the grid. This puts him at a disadvantage from a points strategy perspective. The further back you are, the harder you have to work to gain places over the course of a race. I’m not saying he’s incapable of gaining those places back; he’s shown quite the opposite actually, most notably in Portugal and Austria this season with a 7-place jump from 16th to 9th and a 6-place jump from 13th to 7th, respectively. What I am saying is that if you’re not comfortable in the car, or you’re at a track where overtaking is nigh-impossible, or you’re already close enough to the points to get there on your own, team strategy may not fall in your favor.
But despite his difficulties adjusting to the car, Daniel is in no danger of dropping off and playing second fiddle to Lando like you all suggest. Daniel is a talented driver. If he wasn’t, would he really still be in the sport after a decade? Would McLaren have followed him for years, determined to add him to the team? His move to McLaren, while still in its adjustment period, is one that’s beneficial and positive for all parties involved. Lando may have talent and skill, as clearly shown by his F3 Championship title and frankly outstanding performance the past couple seasons (4 podiums, a front row start, most consecutive points finishes), but he’s still very young. This is only his third year in Formula 1, and he’s only older than me by three years. Compare that to Daniel, who’s been competing in Formula 1 for ten years now, was a driver for one of the two top teams for over half of his career (7 years, counting Toro Rosso), and placed 3rd in the WDC for said team twice in 2014 & 2016. Do you seriously think that McLaren gives him a multimillion dollar paycheck because they want him to play racetrack bodyguard for Lando?
Bringing in someone like Daniel, who has years of training, skill, and knowledge, and an invaluable perspective on not only racing, but on one of the title contenders, is a major asset to all aspects of the team. Sure, he may be new to McLaren, but he is a long way off being new to racing.
Was the strategy this weekend arguably a hot mess? Oh, absolutely. But it wasn’t a one-team phenomenon. Strategy overall this weekend has been all over the place, and I kinda see why. We haven’t raced at Zandvoort since 1985, when the track itself and the cars were much, much different. You can’t really go off of race strategy from the mid-80’s when the track did not include the bankings it currently has and when the car and tyre specifications have changed drastically. Everyone was basically flying in blind.
What the teams could rely on, was all the data they were getting from practice sessions (even if every single one was red-flagged at some point). And the data that McLaren was receiving likely suggested that Lando would be a stronger contender for points, based on comparative lap pace alone.
Over the course of 18 laps in FP1, Lando’s lap time was quicker than Daniel’s by 0.402s, or an average of 4/10ths.
Over the course of FP2, where Lando ran two more laps than Daniel, Lando’s lap time was quicker than Daniel’s by 0.669s, or nearly 7/10ths.
Over the course of 19 laps in FP3, Lando’s lap time was quicker than Daniel’s by 0.232s, or an average of 2/10ths.
During Qualifying, Daniel actually had the faster lap time, pulling an even 0.24s on Lando, and only just squeezed his way into Q3.
The gap between Lando (P13) and George (P11) was 0.074s. That is a tiny gap to cover, and had there not been a red flag to close out Q2, I feel like Lando could have easily cinched a Top 10 start.
During the race, did the strategy of McLaren look as if it was all being done in the favor of Lando? Yes, it kinda did. But when you look at things like race pace, tyre degradation, and what other teams are doing, it’s not necessarily difficult to see why. Over the course of the weekend, Lando consistently put out faster lap times and gained three places on his own during Lap 29, when the three cars in front of him all decided to pit at once. And yes, Daniel did pit first out of the two McLarens, but he was going to have to do so anyway. He started the race on the set of Softs he ran during Qualifying, and Lando started on Mediums. Mediums last longer than Softs. Later in the race, it looked as though Lando had the pace to push past the Alpine cars ahead of him & Daniel, so a call was made to basically switch the two of them around. From what I saw, this call is what made people the most upset. I, as a big fan of both drivers, was also upset at the time, as it felt strange to not just have Daniel try to gain places he was already closer to. But the longer I put thought and research into this analysis, the more I think I see what they were trying to do.
Had this moment of strategy been implemented a few laps earlier, and had it gone according to plan, Daniel could have held off Checo until Lando passed them both (making it a P9/P10), then followed Lando until he got around Esteban and then try and take his shot as Esteban as well (which could’ve given them a P8/P10 or P8/P9). At no point does this potential line of strategy truly favor either driver. Now, obviously I do not work for McLaren and have no true insight into their plans, but this is simply what made the most sense. Have the driver who’s already there hold off the car in between until the other driver can overtake/pass, and then have the first driver follow behind until there’s an opening to make the same move on the next car. Easy points, easy money!
But, mistakes were made. That call came much too late for it to truly work, and that’s just the risk they had to take. At the end of the day, it was not a call made to screw Daniel over, or to play favoritism to Lando. It was simply what could’ve been a good call made too late for good execution.
[I made some graphics to aid my own thought process and I’ve stuck them under the Read More for y’all to look at if you want!]

So, the preferred strategy should be medium-hard-medium (that being said we didn’t really see any long runs during free practice... so who knows)
I don’t really get why Ferrari didn’t try to save 2 medium sets for the race (like Redbull did). Charles has 2, but it’s mainly due to the fact that in fp1 Shwartzman only used one set of tires.
I’m already worried about strategy and we still have more than 3 hours before the start of the race

O canada, my beloved
Well, I haven't been here much but heyaaaah!

So, after the turmoil of a weekend lived in Barcelona a couple weeks back, where I didn't even find the words to comment on how cool it was watching the race from the Main Stand, I'm back.
It took a week to deal with the fact that we have to wait another year to go back there, but it was awesome. Especially with a Merc 2-3 on Sunday, which was memorable. What a result, what a feeling seeing the boys up there, what a feeling see it pretty closely. No words.
But now it's time for a very lovely track that I hope brings a tone of chaos this weekend. So, time to check all parts of this. I'll have a late schedule this weekend so Saturday and Sunday, I'll be watching during work or after at home probably. We'll see how much work we have first.
Press conference - Thursday
I honestly haven't been able to watch the interviews because of my schedule and a tone of things I had to do these days, but I just need to comment on Lewis crushing Kevin about his age 🤣
My dude is just one year older than me, leave him alone! 💀 We know he's a dad but he doesn't look old, for fuck's sake Lewis 🥲

Free Practice 1 - Friday
So, the FP1 has started pretty badly for Alpine in general. Pierre stopped on track trying to restart his car and Esteban still in his pit. The session was Red Flagged due to Gasly's impromptu stop on track.
This is taking way too long now for a car stopped on track, but that's just my opinion. What do I know. But it's too long 🤣 Now seriously, the car has been long gone, so what is really going on?
Tumblr media
Okay, so apparently it's a CCTV issue, since it's not working and therefore the session cannot be restarted. It looks like it might take a while or even the whole session.
And indeed, the session has been deemed "cancelled" and FP2 will run for one hour and a half instead of just the usual one hour. Super fun for those at the track especially, I bet.
Free Practice 2 - Friday
90 minutes to go in a session where they need to try it all today. Must be stressful, I don't remember any other time when this happened (not that it never happened, I just never saw it).
Not much going on until Nico's engine went to shit causing a Red Flag, generating some very nasty-looking smoke they had to put out with fire extinguishers. It reminded me of Kimi's engines back in 2005, almost every race. Ah, the good times (the year, not Kimi's burning engines weekend in weekend out 🤣).

The Alpines are fucked this weekend, what the hell is this? Between Esteban causing yet another Red Flag and Pierre trying to control the car and barely getting out alive, I don't know what the hell is going on with them. I hope they can fix it for tomorrow.
That rain was something I expected more of in Barcelona, but hope this time comes in time. And indeed, in Canada we trust. That looks fucking insane. This weekend might just make my year.

Lewis ending up P1 after more than half the session or almost all of it at the very back of the list is a sight for sore eyes. One I hope keeps repeating itself but in Quali/the race. If only that 3rd one was Sharl...
Free Practice 3 - Saturday
Well, way too late after getting back from work, but I have FP3 in the background. I just see rain and more rain.
I'm just trying t watch a little without falling asleep if possible, but nothing's going on besides a couple incidents due to such heavy rain (thank goodness in Barcelona the rain was so light despite the dark clouds over us). Carlos spinning and losing half his car around the track was the one that took the cake after a few minor issues.
Tumblr media
I'll watch Quali directly tomorrow, I can't take how tired I actually am right now...
Peace out!
