“I… I’m sorry” the blonde stammered after a period of silence.

Why Fabio chose to stay at Yamaha

Or why the Devil still wears Yamaha. You know it’s getting serious when I bother putting caps on a Tumblr post. I have to admit this is largely self-interested as I try to put some order into my thoughts. Putting this under read more because this is very long (probably too much).

The reasons why:

The factory team. Perhaps the most important, as I think Fabio wouldn’t have settled for anything less. He’s in a state of mind where, at this stage of his career, going back to a satellite team would means defeat. So this already eliminates the best bikes of the grid, as factory Ducati have three Ducati riders lining up to be Bagnaia’s teammate, and as KTM will most likely have Binder and Acosta on their factory bikes next year. You could make a point for a Pramac seat, as it’s “almost” a factory seat, but Pramac has already made it clear they want to have a junior team and grow talents there by signing Aldeguer for two years. Fabio is still young, but he’s an experienced MotoGP rider. And as I said before, I don’t think he would accept being anything else than Pecco’s teammate. So what is left? Honda but the point is to go to a better sorted bike, which the RC213V clearly is not. Already the only option left is Aprilia.

The Aprilia option. This is assuming Aprilia offered Fabio a factory seat, which might not even have happened. Aleix keeps telling everyone he doesn’t want to retire yet, and Aprilia look like they want to keep Maverick. So what if Aprilia only offered a factory bike in their satellite team? If so, see point one. The thing is, I think Fabio did receive a factory offer from Aprilia, and there are two main factors to consider. First, the inconsistency and unreliability of the Aprilia bike. It’s no secret to anyone, the Aprilia suffers from technical issues every race weekend, and often prevents riders from bagging points on race day. It’s been an ongoing issue for years, and for now, there is no sign of actual improvement on this matter. The Aprilia is also inconsistent depending on the race track, though I think it's a lesser problem as Aprilia have sort of improved there, and the right rider can make up for this weak point. This first factor is strongly correlated to the second, which is money. According to early reports, Aprilia’s offer was 4 millions per year while Yamaha’s was the TRIPLE of that number. Now, if this offer was coming from factory Ducati instead of Aprilia, I think Fabio would have jumped ship, because the Ducati is a proven championship winning bike. But the Aprilia? Why would you turn down that much down money to go to a bike that keeps having critical failures? No matter how good of a rider you have, if your engine goes bop, there is nothing you can do about it. Maybe Aprilia will manage to sort out this problem, but maybe they won’t, and you would have turned down a huge load of money for a few race wins a year. Wins are good, but nothing compared to a championship. Riders’ careers are short and come with very high risks, so making as much money as you can in short periods of time is critical.

Last main reason is the timing. Yamaha is FINALLY making ACTUAL changes in the way they operate after years of riders complaining about the slow or non existent development, Fabio being the most vocal about it. F1 motorist Marmorini is two years in working on the engine, and Yamaha have finally decided to get some key players and hired Ducati’s ex number two Bartolini (for who Fabio had only praises after working with him for a few days) along with former Ducati aerodynamicist Nicotra. They are apparently working closely with an Italian aerodynamics company, have started a partnership with a 3D printing company and are basically strengthening the operations of the brand’s base in Italy. Does all of this come so fucking late? For sure, and Yamaha is paying the price for their complacency. It’s too early for these recent changes to bear their fruits on the track, so could Fabio have left now after finally getting what he asked, without ever seeing what these changes could have led to? He could have, sure. I think he would have if it meant switching for a factory Ducati, but the only option was Aprilia and it’s a less sexy option. See point two.

Bonus reason: sponsors. I think Monster Energy played a part. Monster sponsors many riders in MotoGP, but Fabio is their guy. He is the number 1 in the team for which they are the title sponsor. They wouldn't let him go that easily.

The gloomy part now, the reasons why there is doubt to have about this renewal (I won't elaborate as much because I don’t want to get depressed):

Yamaha is Yamaha… Disappointing fans since 2016 (minus 2021).

The il4 engine problem. With Suzuki gone, the il4 is yet to show how it can be competitive in this heavy aero era of these last few years. Maybe it has reached its peak and bears too many disadvantages compared to the v4. Then Yamaha will have to wait and pray for the 2027 new regulations to be more favorable…

This renewal doesn’t make sense if Fabio doesn’t plan to stick with Yamaha for the new 2027 regulations. He will help develop the new 850cc bike, and if the development doesn’t go completely awry, why would he leave then?

Fabio will not be able to test himself on another bike for another two years. The il4 style suited him, but what if he liked the v4 more? For now, we will never know.

Bonus part, because I want to end on a good note:

The response of the Japanese fans has been overwhelmingly heart-warming. Look at any comment under a Japanese post, they are SO happy that Fabio is staying, and that not every rider is leaving to go to an European team. Japan is so important for MotoGP, and after Marc leaving Honda, Fabio staying at Yamaha is important to prevent Japan’s MotoGP stronghold from further decaying.

Fabio will be the highest paid rider in MotoGP. He will be able to take care of his family like he intends to. No worries for the bills of his new very big house.

hello i am so in awe that you have collected all the pokémon games (i finished my collection of 3ds ones a bit ago but i considered a lot of the other ones out of reach) and i was wondering how long it took? i know especially the older remakes are insane to get so i’m super curious

Believe me, I still can't believe it myself that I managed to pull it off considering who I had to get ahold of! Been happy dancing to myself ever since I got the last game~

God it feels like it was longer ago honestly, but I only really began trying to finish the Pokemon collection just a year ago! Had to check back in my DMs with my buddy, but the day I began to seriously search for the rest of the authentic generations was May 5th 2023, the day I discovered my copy of Platinum was a repoduction, ya watch ONE video regarding reals vs. fakes and it all went down from there when I looked over the ones I owned already, luckily Platinum was the only one who was fake ;w;

I had passively over the years been picking up games as I went, but from that day last year til recently I looked where I could for the games I was missing, to be fair I had about half the collection to begin with just from growing up and finding ones out and about, I only needed to find the pair of whatever I owned already, besides gen 5.... since I somehow never played gen 5 growing up. Funny enough I didn't have to look too far, every single game I found had all been local! Facebook marketplace saved me big time I just had to wait and compare prices til I was happy with what I was willing to pay for! I scrutinized every single copy I got my hands on and triple checked everything before I was satisfied XD

The 3DS titles were very easy to get thankfully, and the same goes for you too good on ya for getting your 3DS ones! Hardest for sure were gens 3-5, specifically ALL of gen 5 they are the WORST to get since no one wants to sell them and they're required to be able to move anyone forward to the 3DS and then to the Switch! I think It'd be easier to list who I owned and who I hunted for in the year of the search.

So I owned:

Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Leafgreen, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, X, Alpha Sapphire, Moon, UltraSun, Sword, Violet and Arceus (some I had gotten as gifts growing up and others I had gotten through yardsaling and thrifting by chance as I grew up, Emerald was 70 at a yardsale!)

The ones I got from the year of the hunt:

Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, Platinum, Heartgold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, Y, Omega Ruby, Sun, UltraMoon, Shield, Lets Go Pikachu, Lets Go Eevee (I DID own Eevee before but traded it in before the hunt) Scarlet, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl.

Now knowing who I had to get, we all know it costs a pretty penny, so I essentially sold things myself to fund the hunt, like my amiibos I didn't really need or want, a handful of random collectable things I picked up and kept over the years (notably a masterchief helmet from the legendary collection I got for free like 10 years ago lol) and some odds and ends I didn't need anymore and to declutter the home! I think out of my own pocket I only paid maybe 40 bucks total so I paid for everyone that way! It was all mostly luck finding everyone and keeping an eye on marketplace, and some of them I had gotten from folks I knew! Black and Black 2 actually came from one of my managers at work who sold them to me for insanely cheap, and Sapphire I got for free as I mentioned in the games post XD

If you do try to go for the complete collection, I say have a gameplan for how to pay and build that piggybank of funds, go for what you can afford! So if you see a game without a case thats usually better, you dont NEED a case or have a game CIB really, a bunch of mine dont have a case or box and I'm alright with that! Look locally at second hand stores, vintage ones, marketplace or any other local yardsale or fleamarket type thing you may have in your area, and I say this with caution, but if you HAVE to, you can consider ebay, but I strongly suggest not to when it comes to the games. I had originally tried to get a Brilliant Diamond copy from there and well, dude never sent it at all and got my money (ebay fully refunded me but that still bites). And finally get well versed in learning how to authenticate to the best of your abilities, 3DS and switch I don't think can be faked but everything else can be! I used this as my guide to figure out who was real and fake in my search and it worked very very well! Twas my bible of knowledge

End of the day it didn't take as long as one would think, but luck played a HUGE roll in this endeavor, I was smart with my money, and I was very very VERY stubborn and wanted them all XD

If you go for the complete collection like I did then I wish you the best of luck my friend! And thank you very much for the ask! It kinda got away from me while typing but yeah thats the story and process of how I got all the main series titles!

Long Overdue Animal Post Part 1

So. I’ve promised to make a large update post to celebrate the 2 years of my tarantula keeping...

It’s been quite overdue... And by quite I mean... I’ve been keeping tarantulas for 3 years and 4 months now...

A lot has changed. I had some losses and... Well. I went a bit over my set limit of 6 spiders...

But here’s the deal.

1. Tliltocatl vagans (ex. Brachypelma vagans) female

So. My first spider luckily turned out to be a female. She’s grown quite a bit but is not nearly as large as some of my younger spiders - being from a medium-sized species in general.

One thing for sure - she’s a big and healthy female even if she likes to disappear underground for several months at a time (I haven’t seen her from December 2021 to July 2022).

She’s also the first spider I’ve paired. But you should know that from the post I’ve made before.

2. Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens - male (Typhoon)

My first spider. What most keepers consider to be the most beautiful species out there - the Greenbottle Blue Tarantula.

Has matured as a male in 18 months and not long after I’ve loaned him to one of the breeders in my country in January 2021 - in return I’ve received two slings from the same species.

Unfortunatley, when I inquired about his fate 2 months later they confirmed that Typhoon was eaten by a female they paired him with.

3. Phormictopus Sp. “Green - Gold Carapace” - female, Draka

The BIG ONE.

Probably the largest spider in my house. She’s huge and likely has not yet reached her maximum.

For a while I was convinced she’s a male and called her “Durotan”.

Hearing I have a sub-adult male some people offered me a nice price for “him” as the price for this species tripled since I’ve got mine. I could have made 5 times what I paid for the spiderling.

Luckily I haven’t sold her as the adult female is likely worth even more.

Now - finding a male for HER might be more problematic than most.

To add to this - this is the spider I am actually nervous when dealing with. Draka was moody and jumpy all the way back as a sling and now she’s extremely defensive. Every feeding is a potential angry fit from her and I don’t want her fangs in my hand.

Yes - I have much more venomous spiders now. Draka is simply big and much more eager to bite when compared to them.

Here’s the most recent photo.

Yes - she threw a threat posture right after I took those pictures... I had to wait with watering the enclosure - doing it with her already angry risks a case of spider outside.

4. Psalmopoeus cambridgei, famale Bertha

The one that got away.

Yes - the only spider that escaped in my care. She spent some 16 hours loose in my house and neither me, my mom or my sister’s cat were able to find her until next morning.

Also quite large but less bulky spider. Mostly a ghost. I see her once every few months now that she’s in her final enclosure.

I’ve got a mate for her at the same event I’ve got a mate for #1 but... I don’t know why he died some 3 weeks after molting. I fed him a week before and he seemed perfectly healthy. Then next week I just found him dead.

Anyway. Here’s the most recent photo when she decided to grace me with her presence.

5. Lasiodora klugi, ?????

Okay I am confused. I can’t tell if it’s a male or female tho my last attempt would indicate it’s a male after all this time.

Potentially the largest spider in my collection. Definitely rivals Draka when it comes to sheer bulk.

A bit jumpy but nowhere nearly as moody as her and overall a good specimen to deal with when you want to get used to huge ass spiders that aren’t pet rocks.

Keeping him (?) has been a delight and the fact it’s likely not female is only a bit of a downgrade. Some breeders already told me they’ll gladly take him as males from this species are hard to come by. In fact when I got him as a spiderling it was likely the first time they appeared on sale since 2014 - some even assumed males went extinct in the European branch of the hobby.

6. Harpactira pulchripes, male “Gilgamesh”

The golden boy. Matured too fast. Loaned. Met his demise much like Typhoon.

I looked up my spreadsheet - I’ve only had him for 16 months.

Very moody for a species often suggested as a good first Old World tarantula (old worlds are more defensive and have stronger venom).

The species has been a disaster for me.

I’ve raised Gil from a tiny sling without any issues. Loaning him I’ve got 2 slings in exchange - much like with Typhoon.

Both slings suffered from DKS - a symptom of illness that disrupts tarantula’s coordination. I don’t know what caused it. One sling passed away shortly after developing this condition. The other one struggled for over 2 months - seemingly recovering to some degree just to pass away anyway... Those were Spiders 11 and 12.

7&8. Phoprmictopus Sp. “Bayahibe”, male and female.

So. This is the species I’ve broken my limit for. Can you blame me? They are absolutely stunning:

They’ll hopefully get more violet coloration as they age - I’ll try to slow down male’s growth as well and hopefully pair them later on. There was exactly one time they were sold in Poland until recently. The entire population in Europe is likely very limited and I have a pair.

9&10. Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens, ???

The two slings I received in exchange for Typhoon.

They’re growing nicely and now that I think about it they’re actually older than Typhoon when he matured - being around 22 months old.

I didn’t bother to check if they’re males or females but I might be forced to do so soon.

They’re in vertical setups made in plastic jars and with their last molt both spiders destroyed most of their webbing that allowed them to use this vertical space efficiently. If they don’t remake it I’ll likely look for more horizontal enclosures for them.

Re: Fates pricing vs House repetitive issues. I think the problem here is that it depends on what each person values in a game to see whether it's scummy or fair or not. House put a LOT more into things like voice acting for fully voiced support (save for Byleth themselves). That's a lot more effort than Fates did re: voice acting. If you love the characters as a result, you see more value in what 3H brought. If you judge based on gameplay alone, you might see Fates as more value to bring (1/2)

For me personally, I fell in love with the voice acting of 3H. It made the cast feel more real and alive than Awakening and Fates did. And I loved the cast more the Echoes too, which also had voice acting. 3H characters became beloved by many. But the gameplay was very repetitive nonetheless. I loved playing Fates (I played Birthright twice, Conquest once). But I never bought Revelation b/c of negativity re: the maps and meh story. So I would say a DLC golden ending was kinda scummy (2/2)

I'm glad you enjoy the voice acting enough for that to make the $60 price tag worth it to you, anon. I'm of the opinion that having nice voice acting does not make up for having three quarters of the game be lazy copy pastes of each other (and, in fact, I wish they would have taken the money and time they put toward that production value toward making more unique maps, optimizing the game, and tightening up the gameplay).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the worst sin a game can commit is not being fun. You can have the best voice cast in the world, the highest production values, the nicest art, the coolest cutscenes... but if the game isn't fun then it's not serving its function. I don't play games to be bored for three hours straight until the next kernel of interesting plot dump.

It just so happens that 3H commits the cardinal sin of not being very fun to me while also having significantly worse production values than it's predecessors in basically every way except the voice acting. The maps are samey and repetitive, the gameplay is either completely not challenging or SO challenging beause of inflated "difficulty" (mainly crazy inflated enemy stats and ambush reinforcement spawns), the classing is so open as to make each unit functionally interchangeable (and therefore boring), the graphics look like ass, the load times are atrocious, the lag is a pain in the neck, the art is not to my preference at all, there's too much copy-paste, the cutscenes look like they run at 15 frames per second (aside from the in-engine ones), and the story is a complete and utter mess that they couldn't even correct with a second go around.

I'll tell you two things I never felt while playing Fates: I never felt like I wasn't having fun, and I never felt like I'd wasted my money. I won't say I had no fun with 3H, and I won't say I feel like I completely wasted my money, but frankly it's embarrassing that 3H costs $60 with the state they released it in. It's unfinished. They had to add content in after release in a patch. That's unacceptable practice.

Last time I was at my local Gamestop I saw it on the shelf for $40 and you can bet your ass I was kicking myself for not saving that $20 on it. (Actually, more, since I bought the special edition with the steel box)

Also, fun fact, if you purchased one route of Fates + Rev you'd be paying exactly as much as you paid for 3H, and you get two entire complete games for the same price as one half baked mess. If you paid for all three, you're only paying $20 more for nearly triple the content.

And again, I'll bring up Tellius as a comparable. To get the full story of Tellius you have to play both PoR and RD. That was $50 for PoR and $60 for RD back in the magical beforetimes when these games didn't cost your entire yearly salary to purchase, so $110 for both. And no one calls those games scummy for intentionally designing a story which forces you to purchase two separate, full priced games in order to see it through to its conclusion. We can extend this out to other series too! Mass Effect? No one calls Mass Effect scummy for intentionally designing a trilogy that forces you to purchase all three games in order to experience the full story!

"But those were all full games with their own stories!"

So. Was. Fates.

The difference is:

One, you had to buy Fates three separate times instead of as a bundled purchase

Two, Fates released all at the exact same time, which meant you had to pay for each of these things all at once if you wanted to play them all right away.

And you know what? There's actually a psychological tactic companies use on consumers! It's called "Flat Rate Bias".

Fates is a much better value than 3H or Tellius. Three games for $80 is a far superior deal than one game for $60 or two games for $110, but because you only have to pay once for 3H and three times for Fates, you think 3H is a better deal. And because your payments for the two Tellius games (or three Mass Effect games, or whatever franchise applies) is split up over time, you feel like you're spending less, or it takes the sting out of spending, even if you're spending more.

You can also see the latter phenomenon with The Sims. Do you really think EA would make any money if they just rolled up and said "'sup, here's the whole Sims 4 experience. It costs $1,500"? No! That's why they release the content slowly over time, so you keep buying and buying and oh shit, looks like I've spent $1,500! (Personal experience. I'm not immune to this)

Like do I have problems with Fates? Sure. I think the way they rolled out the games was clunky and ultimately made them inaccessible and difficult to recommend to beginners. I think the three-in-one cartridge should have been a standard option. (I would have gladly paid for it instead of buying all three separately! I am not immune to Flat Rate Bias either!) instead of a special edition exclusive thing.

But like I don't wanna hear about it being overpriced or scummy because it's really not. If you personally don't think it's worth the money because you didn't enjoy it then that's one thing. I am never going to convince you that something is worth the money if you didn't enjoy it (spoiler alert: NOTHING is worth the money if you don't enjoy it!) but let's not pretend like charging $80 for three full games is somehow scummier than any of the other things I listed.

Real Starship costs

I gathered these from a ton of sources on the internet. some are dubious reddit posts sucking Musk's cock

But anyway I want to crunch some numbers on REAL costs

Starship has $30k in helium, $3 mil in methane (at least) and $300k in oxygen (at least) per flight. Not counting other consumables for passengers

It requires 14 flights to get enough fuel to go to the moon plus the first flight for passengers thats $50 mil

$45mil in heat tiles if it was the space shuttle and Space X said it was $12,000 per sq meter or $9.6 mil which is on Nasa's material cost database so I trust it

Thats quite the improvement in 40 years. Not bad. Still crazy

1.25% needed to be replaced per flight but otherwise have a 100 flight lifespan but its probably longer

So thats $120k in tiles per flight

The best engines EVER the RS-25 only lasted UP TO 15 flights and SpaceX have never officially stated how long the engines last but have said reuse up to 10 times and ONE booster managed 21 launches so far but we don't know anything about its engines

Theres roughly $38 mil in engines if SpaceX can be believed and I have no reason to doubt them on engine costs. At 10x reuse thats $3.8 mil per launch.

.Estimated total dev cost will be $10 bil but thats not usually counted but $6bil of that would need to be private investment as per commercial space requirements. Not counting profit if we assume that the vehicles have a lifespan similar to shuttles at 100 launches. I do think that the shuttles development cost of $50 bil was reasonable but with advanced in CAD I think they COULD do it for $10 bil and that 10 bil is from experts.

The last shuttle was $1.7 billion. Space X say that the full stack was $150 mil. Experts believe that the Falcon 9 costs about $30 million to build.

The raptors are at least twice as expensive and theres 38 total in the stack. vs 10 on Falcon. So they are about 2x as expensive per kg lifted. So maybe the vehicle. Falcon 9 lifts 1/5 that of starships claimed 100 tons (it only did 50 the first time). So $300 million to build. Thats maybe not exactly fair since tank costs don't space linearly. Bigger tank is not that much more expensive. But thats $3 mil/ launch. I can't spend all night on this.

So far we have $10.75 mil per launch as COST, not price. and we are fully excluding development, operations, tracking, refurbishment (we assume it lasts 100 times at no cost then fully replace), and of course profit.

SpaceX want to go public. Profit will matter.

Musk claims $2-3 mil/launch. Thats not possible.

Falcon 9 has a refurbished cost of $15 mil. So they spend 1/2 the cost on refurbishment for reference. Which is awful by the way and worse than Shuttle which was about 1/4 and still wasn't worth refurbishing.

So without refurb I expect a price of at least $20 mil/launch and more likely $30 mil if they go public. But realistically since it can lift 5x falcon the price would be $300 mil if they had to pay for all that other shit and not compete with their other product.

However if their refurb cost is similar to Shuttle at 1/4 cost per flight thats $75 mil added. So $85 mil cost and likely triple that for the sale price. So $250 mil per launch

Thats cheap. Dirt cheap by the way

Its still VERY cheap to get that much to orbit and I feel that its much more realistic.

I hate these fraudulent, ridiculous lies by Musk. Its still a potentially revolutionary vehicle at that price.

However its TERRIBLE for getting to the Moon or Mars. It they have $85 mil in costs for 15 launches to refill to go to the moon and 20 launches for mars (one way trip) thats $1.275 billion to go to the moon. Which is DIRT CHEAP compared to apollo. Musk could be making these numbers as claims at could actually back them up even if they end up being too optimistic.

Also launching 15 rockets to do one moon trip is fucking nuts by the way and incredible unreliable. given that the real engine life will probably be around 10 to 15 launches. that a whole starship per trip in which case you should just expend the vehicle and make it out of carbon fiber.

Balance. Balance is hard. I mean look at the brave men and woman who walk the high wire without a net beneath them to save them from the inevitable bloody mess their body would make splattering on the ground if they fell. That's dark. Even for me. Moving on... where was I? OH Balance. Other than the previously mentioned, day to day Balance for day to day people is hard. And it's not just hard for the sheeple. I used to sit with this scrawny little kitten for hours on end after work. Letting her jump on me run around me pretend to attack me. And then, well life changed. Don't get me wrong. Actually you can take this however you see fit but when he returned I retreated. I've written, spoken, prayed and mulled this over in my mind more times than anyone would want to hear about especially since I began to bore myself. But he arrived... and I was there to welcome him. I had no idea that my soul, ugg fuck that I'm so tired of saying "soul" he and I were about to set out on a journey rushed and pushed by the guiding winds that support us and I was all in. But it came at a cost. Does everything good and meaningful come at a cost? I have yet to over think that idea but I'm sure it's on one of my lists. So I'll speak on just this...I stopped sitting with the kitten everyday. I stopped sitting with every kitten. Okay, okay I tried...metaphorically speaking I stopped everything. Everything stopped me except for him. To this point we've spoken. He and I. "We needed that time together" "we bonded by spending every waking hour, fuck every sleeping hour together and I relished in it. I sat comfortably on the most beautiful pink cloud I had ever had put before me. Because after all he was sent. I mean I know that so surely by now you must know the same. Balance. "All in" is an absurd statement. I was, I am I forever will be all in but it will always come at a cost. Balance, what price can I put on that compared to what we have.

I suppose my point if I were to ever arrive at one would be that balance doesn't exist. It is talked about in self help books, TV shows, fuck even church. But in my house there is no balance but there is more than enough love to even the scale on the triple beam. (You'll only get that if you were a 90's burnout and that's okay) I'm going to stop looking for balance except where absolutely necessary and I may even begin to live my life like every day is the last in this realm. Of course there is the little one. I'll continue to try my best to parent her with some of the ideology I was brought up on but only for this single reason... so that she too can one day question "what is balance. Do I need it, can I attain it and does it directly affect my love for myself and others?" IF not... fuck balance. EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE.
