It’s a bit more complicated, idk if I want to give this storyline a chance but I can share my idea.

Since Xanthos is such a wanna be high horse when it comes to people of the districts and Lucy Gray is tired of it so she takes him each year from age 10 after the games for 2 weeks to 12. Coriolanus only allowed it with extra provided security. Xanthos might be the only kid who really got to meet his other side of the family. They stay in the uninhabited victors village and boy he is not having it. Long story short he makes acquaintances with a girl his age from the seam and they do became after a rough start friends. Xanthos did develop a crush after years which turned into a situationship turning into an actual relationship at 17 before… she was reaped in her last year.

He told her that he could fix it, to get her out but that ended in a broken promise. He never had romantic feelings for anyone after it

There is also a “what if” scenario of him being able to get her out, she would have to live in the capitol and be declared dead before the games.

If I don’t go this route then he is just not really interested in perusing a relationship, but he’s definitely on the aromantic spectrum one way or another.

sometimes I do go a little crazy thinking about other characters time in the desert otherworld besides Carlos and Kevin. Dana was one of the first to be trapped there and explore it. We can speak about intellectual compatibility in relationship - which I agree would be something to consider - but you're drawing on... writing?? Writing is a skill and it doesn’t reflect intelligence. It has no relevance neither for his chosen career nor for our relationship, so why should I care?

Anyone can learn to write academically – fairly easily too in my opinion. Some people pick it up quickly on their own, some need to be taught more explicitly. Same with many other subjects and skills.  In some education system (especially US/UK) there are way more essay-based evaluations, so it’s almost expected that you’ll learn how to write academically, but that’s not the case in many other countries. Additionally, writing in a foreign language is harder than you’d think. My boyfriend took classes fully taught in English for the first time a year ago and went from one class to a semester of courses taught only in English. I’d say that’s someone who is always pushing themselves and improving on an intellectual level. He doesn’t know how to write essays well because he has never had to, but he can very well learn now (and has clearly learnt from the feedback I’ve given him). The question is whether that’s a skill he should spent time on, as it is something that is developed necessarily through practice and thus requires a lot of time. The simple answer is that, while it could be helpful for one or two courses at most, it’s not particularly relevant for the rest nor it would be a useful skill for his career. And lol definitely nothing of use for our relationship...

I'm absolute shit at writing Azula but I think she's my favorite person to analyze and build backstory for.

Because ESPECIALLY if you disregard the comics, theres so much to work with and so many different head cannons and theories as to why Azula is the way she is.

Like with Zuko, the show pretty much answers it. He was abused (emotionally and physically) by his father and craved his validation and love and attention etc. His mother adored him and sort of acted like this "there is some goodness and gentleness in you too" model. Then his mom disappeared and Iroh took care of him. If you don't count Azula (and Lu Ten, Azulon, etc because theyre a completely different conversation), Zuko's relationships very clearly feed into his whole ordeal.

But Azula is a lot more... complex. Because A) her backstory isn't nearly as prevalent as Zuko's so we don't see it as much, and B) most of Azula's relationships with people and the dynamic of the people around her aren't made as clear as Zuko, they're implied at best.

Her father being manipulative and her mother and Iroh having a complicated relationship with her are about the only things we know for sure about her.

It's hard to argue on Zuko's relationships with his parents, but with Azula, it's more complicated.

Is Azula's relationship with Ursa purely due to Ozai's manipulation, and Ursa genuinely did try her best with Azula? Or did Ursa have more to do with that? Like if Ozai wasn't a factor from the time Azula was born, would Azula still resent Ursa to some extent?

(I think it's a combination of the two, but Ozai is vastly more responsible for Azula's mental breakdown)

Same with Iroh. Does Azula not like Iroh also seemed to favor Zuko, and he never tried to get to know her? Maybe Iroh see's a lot of himself in Azula and thats why he was put off by her. Maybe she adored Lu Ten and she held a grudge against Iroh for not avenging him. Or maybe her contempt for Iroh is just Ozai's influence.

There really isn't a lot known about Azula and I think she's all the more interesting for it.
