Ok I know we’re focusing on Mal rn, and I’m happy about that. But this right here would’ve been a great moment to give MC a chance to speak on how holding the team together affects her since he just commented on how hard it is. Like now you have a bit of an idea of how she feels, but you still don’t know the half of it because she had to come back, pick up the pieces, and rally everyone together again AFTER being kidnapped and held captive.
And I get that MC being gone was hard for Mal, especially since he’s my LI. But he still ultimately got to move on and pursue something he’s always wanted to do. Meanwhile MC went from saving her brother to saving the world to saving herself to being thrust right back into saving the world and her friends again!

OooooKAY. Here we go.
USWNT V COLOMBIA pt. 2
Jane with the nod over Ashlyn and Aubrey. Obviously she didn’t have much to do. Maybe Vlatko wanted to try a keeper whose name didn’t start with an A.
Alana Cook with the start finally!! She was a really strong presence and it was cool to see her get up on all the set pieces. Header goal in her future for sure.
Baby T back out there for a full ninety! Thank goodness. Distribution was good. Becky vibes. If she can stay healthy, she only gonna get better.
Ali Krieger. The MOST beautiful on the field (fr can I get her skin care routine?) and one of the baddest bitches on the field. Still quick, still physical, still has those BOMB ASS CROSSES. The assist to Cat was a thing of beauty. Just like her.
Sonnett at the left (and the right because girl can play anywhere.) Good offensive push, solid crosses, and an nice awkward titty assist for Pinoe’s first goal. BUT. And this is nothing new. Can she keep her hands to herself?? She’s such a good defender and she’s fast. Except whenever she slightly gets beat, her immediate knee jerk reaction is to grabby hand pull the opposing player down. She doesn’t give herself the chance to actually defend. It should be a ‘no other option, last ditch effort’, not a go-to move. And her fatigue was apparent near the end with a few dumbass passes
Emily Fox coming in!! I know she’s had caps before but this is a fresh start for her. Not as seamless an integration as Cat, but did fine for limited minutes.
Julie I actually paid more attention to this time lol. Nothing crazy. Per usual for her. Strong physical presence. She seemed tired at the end though, heavy first touch. But her recovery is always very good so no serious issues.
ROSE. I think everyone likes to joke about Rose being a teeny tiny fragile being. But she really isn’t! She was shoving people over left and right with unsuspecting muscle. Her play was extremely unselfish and it was clear she really wanted to assist a Cat goal. She would look at the shot, decide against it, and immediately try and find Cat. It was v sweet but she could’ve taken a selfish shot or two.
Samantha. God. Could not catch a break with all of the fouls committed against her. She had a strong game and was breaking through lines with her run and was doing regular, wonderful Sam Mewis things. My heart DROPPED when she went down. Her ankle went crooked AF. Hopefully not a long term injury - I JUST WANT GOOD THINGS FOR HER.
Lindsey. Typical Miss Bulldozer out there. She’s so calm on the ball and her weighted volleys are beautiful. Her goal was sick. Idk if Julie hit it first with her head at all but I’m taking it as a Crystal assist.
Kristie! Came on under unfortunate hurt little sister circumstances but good to see her get minutes. She wanted a redo on that one header so bad. She had opportunities for sure. Her reign of goals is over BUT a solid showing nonetheless
Pinoe with goals on goals. She’s BACK. Maybe not full ninety back but certainly getting there. She’s such a god damn joy and her PKs are scary amazing. RIP to Colombia’s incredible goalkeeper, she had no chance. I know everyone’s putting her as a bubble Olympic player, but dammit. It would be tough to see the team without her.
Lynn! A better game than Monday for her for sure. I was as relieved as she was that she finally got that goal. One million attempts finally rewarded. There was more of an effort to fight for the ball but still, a lot of unfortunate missed opportunities.
Cat got her first USWNT goal!!!! Big YAY for that. Not surprising in the slightest. She’s just so smooth on the ball. And she was everywhere. She didn’t let playing the #9 limit where she set herself on the field. So smart and so refreshing. Wish she would’ve played longer.
Which brings me to Carli. And I don’t just want to rag on her because she is a good player. But idk why she went in. She offered some good offensive pressure, she’s great at pressing. Other than that? She fell a couple times? She did seven zig zag moves in the box instead of shooting or passing..?
And then CRYSTAL. Vlatko heard my pleas and out Crystal at forward. She was excited to be there and I was pumped to see it. Her technicality, her MOVES. So underrated. And she took all the corners and just. She’s just world class. I love her.
And LAST BUT NEVER LEAST, Midge! Catch me just like Pinoe yelling “Let’s go Midgey!” From my couch. She just went out there and proved she is wasted on defense. Her little shimmy move and end line drive, her crosses, her GOAL. Crazy how all those wonderful things came from her playing her actual position.
Super bummer we didn’t get to see Mal, Sophia, or Andi in these games. Truly. THEY NEED SOME MILK.
My hope is all the gals stay healthy and we can do this allllllll again for SBC.
Also. Big shout out to Vlatko’s dad vibes and sneaker game.

she’s the missing beat
Word Count: 2,525 Relationships: Zoe Benson/Madison Montgomery Summary: Zoe misses Madison. Mallory notices
A/N:  Merry Christmas! Felt a little inspired today and whipped this up.
//
Zoe doesn’t miss Madison.
Madison Montgomery was quite literally the biggest pain in her ass - maybe even the Coven’s ass as a whole - and though what happened to her still stings, still reminds Zoe of how this is entirely the two of their faults to begin with, she doesn’t miss her.
Kyle Spencer should have never been brought back; he should have stayed dead instead of being resurrected in parts that weren’t his and a brain that didn’t function right.
But Kyle choked Madison to death and lied about it to Zoe until the secrets spilled over and he was put to the stake. That was the end of that.
(And in the process Zoe lost two people who meant something to her - though she never quite got a grasp on her and Madison’s relationship.
Madison Montgomery was always something in her life, Zoe knows that much.)
But Cordelia suggests everyone clean out their rooms in early December so they can donate what they don’t need anymore to the orphanage two blocks away and it’s only then that Zoe finds an old pack of cigarettes hidden away with two miniatures of vodka and rum hidden in an old winter coat Madison has forced her to buy, insisting it would help her look “a little less like a fucking loser.”
If anything, the sight of these should cue an eye roll paired with a scoff. It’s so typically Madison; so reckless and ridiculous, using Zoe as a cover more often than not.
But as Zoe stares at the items in her hands, something hits her in her gut. It twists in a painful way she doesn’t recognize. Instead of bringing back every stupid thing Madison’s dragged her into, Zoe thinks about the time they snuck one of Fiona’s expensive bourbon bottles into their bedroom and sipped it warm with coca cola, getting drunk for no other reason than Madison deciding it’d be a great way to spend a Wednesday night. She thinks about the rare moments Madison would laugh a full, bellied laugh and looked like maybe - just maybe - she didn’t hate the entire world.
Mallory, who had been helping Zoe out, notices the suddenly lack of movement and turns from Zoe’s pile of shoes.
“Zoe, what’s wrong?” she asks, walking over to her friend.
Zoe can’t speak for a moment, still entranced by the items inn her hand.
“Zoe?” Mallory repeats, standing next to her now.
“These were Madison’s,” Zoe finally says, seemingly able to find her voice.
“Oh.” Realization is clear in Mallory’s tone. It’s almost like she backs away from the gravity of the moment between them.
(If Mallory’s being honest, she kind of forgot about bringing Madison back from hell.
She’s been too caught up in pretending that she’s still somewhat new around here, really.)
“Of course she’d hide them in my coat,” Zoe scoffs, trying to make light of the situation as she wraps her fingers around the items in her hand.
There’s a pause and then, “Do you miss her?”
A slight hesitation is clear, but Zoe shakes her head as she says, “Madison Montgomery was the biggest problem in my life.”
“That’s not an answer,” Mallory tells her.
Zoe rolls her eyes, turning to face her friend. “She caused so much trouble. How am I supposed to miss that?”
Mallory bites her tongue then, watching as Zoe tosses the cigarettes and miniatures - which Mallory would’ve totally taken for herself, by the way - into the trash can next to her desk.
“She couldn’t have been all that bad,” Mallory suggests lightly.
Zoe gives her a look. “She tries to steal my zombie boyfriend, sabotaged basically all of us at one point, and refused to bring me back to life before throwing a hissy fit about not being the Supreme.”
She decides to leave out being ambushed in the bathroom and forced to join a threesome in the mix, but, you know, that wasn’t exactly the worst thing to happen.
Mallory grimaces then, knowing she can’t give away the secrets she holds so close. But she watches Zoe’s eyes, because even as she lists off all the terrible things Madison Montgomery did the first time around, there’s something there, something that hints that Zoe misses the chaos of Madison Montgomery.
As they continue to find more of Zoe’s things to donate, Mallory can’t help but notice how Zoe will glance at Madison’s unused bed. She thinks she knows what to do.
//
"You want to do what?” Coco screeches.
“It’ll be fine,” Mallory insists. “I’ll only be knocked out for a few hours.”
“A few - are you Insane?” Coco asks with wild eyes. “That’s like, one of the tests for a Supreme. You can’t seriously - there’s no way you can do this.”
Mallory winces. “Actually, I can.”
“What?”
Mallory sighs, patting the spot next to her on the bed. “This is gonna be a long explanation.”
//
They’re hanging out in Zoe’s room again, listening to one of the vinyl’s Mallory and Coco bought Zoe for her birthday and reading - except, Zoe’s not actually reading. Once again, Mallory catches her staring at Madison’s bed across from them, untouched and showing almost no signs of the former roommate.
Mallory puts her book down, looking pointedly at Zoe.
“It’s okay to miss her, you know.”
Zoe’s head whips around to face her and she blinks. “What?”
“Madison,” Mallory shrugs. “It’s okay to miss her even if she wasn’t the best person in the world.”
Zoe sighs. “You didn’t know her, Mallory. Madison’s probably the last person I should ever want to be around.”
"You don’t know apocalypse Madison,” Mallory mumbles.
“Huh?”
Mallory clears her throat. “Tell me about her then.”
Zoe looks at her for a long moment before she sighs and runs a hand through her hair.
“She was probably the most complicated person I’d ever known,” Zoe says with an eye roll. “An absolute brat for sure, but she was one hell of a witch.”
Mallory smiles at that, encouraging Zoe to continue.
“I don’t know, Madison and I were just...I think I’m the closest thing to a best friend she’s ever had. She’d insult me one moment and then force me into doing something with her the next. I mean, I was basically depressed after Kyle died she brought me to the damn morgue to bring him back to life.”
There’s a ghost of a smile on Zoe’s lips now, the memory coming clearly to her. She remembers thinking Madison was in isane, but one look at that smirk and the excitement behind Madison’s eyes and she was a goner.
Mallory nudges her gently. “It sounds like you made her care about other people sometimes.”
“Sometimes,” Zoe shrugs. “Other times, she’d still be the same selfish Madison I knew. I just wonder…”
“Wonder what?”
“If she was still here,” Zoe says, her voice quiet now. “Would she still be the same?”
Mallory wants to tell her about the last life they’d lived together. She wants to tell her that even though Zoe and Madison never figured out their problems, the lengths Madison went for this coven was something due to growth, to Zoe pushing her to be better.
“There’s no real way to know,” Mallory offers instead.
//
They’re in the attic on Christmas Eve, just Mallory and Coco. Everyone else is probably in their rooms asleep by now, and it’s not until Mallory knows for sure Cordelia is asleep that she drags Coco upstairs.
“This place is creepy,” Coco whines, looking around. “I heard their old server kept a baby in here.”
“He did, Zoe told me,” Mallory says distractedly, lighting candles and placing them in a circle around the floor.
“I don’t know about this,” Coco admits, looking at the candles. “This is dangerous.”
“I told you, I brought Misty back this way.”
“Yeah but that was months ago! Can you still do it?”
Mallory looks up at her. “I’ve got this.”
Once the candles are set and lit, Mallory places herself in the middle. She sits down, looking at Coco who has a book of spells in her lap and a worried expression on her face a few feet away.
“Don’t let anyone come up here,” Mallory reminds her. “And if I don’t -”
“You will,” Coco tells her in a firm voice. “We’re making Christmas cookies for Cordelia tomorrow, you bitch.”
Mallory only offers half a smile before she’s laying flat on her back murmuring the latin chant she hasn’t used in so long. There’s a moment, and then she’s being sucked into the underworld.
//
“Has anyone seen Mallory or Coco?”
“We can’t open presents without them!”
Cordelia sighs, looking at Zoe and Queenie.
“I haven’t seen them since dinner last night,” Queenie shrugs.
“Zoe, will you please go check on them?” Cordelia asks, looking somewhat exasperated.
Zoe nods, getting up from her position on the couch. “I’m on it.”
She’s only halfway down the hall to their bedroom when she hears commotion coming down from the attic.
“What the - Coco?”
Coco - who looks bewildered and like she barely got any sleep - jumps. “Zoe! Hey - Merry Christmas!”
Zoe narrows her eyes. “What were you doing up in the attic?”
“Oh um, nothing!” Coco answers almost immediately. “What are you doing up here?”
“You and Mallory are the only ones still not downstairs,” Zoe informs her as she crosses her arms. “I was on the way to your room.”
“No! No I’m right here, no need to go to our room,” Coco insists, immediately rushing over to Zoe.
She’s practically shoving Zoe around and pushing her back down the hallway with speed.
“But where’s Mallory?” Zoe asks, attempting to dig her heels into the ground.
Coco laughs a little too loudly before answering, “Mal’s coming down in a second. You know her - loves to sleep in on holidays and all that.”
“Since when?”
Coco ignores her question and manages to get Zoe downstairs and with the rest of them. Zoe is sporting a confused look with furrowed eyebrows, but she’s stopped fighting Coco.
“Coco, where’s Mallory?” Cordelia asks when the come down the stairs, notices both of their frazzled states.
“She’s coming,” Coco promises, ushering Zoe onto the couch. “Let’s all just sit!”
Cordelia’s eyes shift to Zoe who only offers a lost expression and a shrug. Queenie eyes Coco suspiciously.
Cordelia lets out a sigh, deciding this is something she’s rather not get into in front of the entire coven on Christmas morning. Misty rubs her back encouragingly, and it’s enough to push Cordelia forward.
“Alright, why don’t we start since Mallory’s coming,” she suggests. “Queenie why don’t you -”
“Wait!”
There’s a scatter and hurried, loud footsteps coming down the stairs and everyone’s heads turn to see Mallory clambering down the stairs almost like a puppy or a newborn deer. She skids to a somewhat smooth stop a few feet away from the bottom of the staircase with wide eyes.
“Good morning Mallory, nice of you to join us,” Cordelia greets, slight sarcasm laced in her tone.
“Can I go first?” Mallory asks, out of breath. “I have a present for Zoe.”
Zoe tilts her head. “For me?”
Mallory nods vigorously, then look at Cordelia with pleading eyes.
“Please? Well - I mean I guess it’s for like, the rest of the council, too.”
Cordelia gives Mallory a once over before she’s shifting her gaze to her two Council members. Zoe shrugs as if to say it’s up to Cordelia while Queenine looks like she wants to see how this plays out. It’s enough for Cordelia to give Mallory the nod of approval.
Mallory smiles for a moment at her before she’s turning her head to the top of the staircase and giving a nod.
“Mallory I swear if you brought home a dog without asking-” Cordelia starts, but the thread falls off her lips when she catches sight of the figure coming down the stairs.
Dressed in all black and designer boots, Madison Montgomery walks down the staircase with her arms crossed and a guarded attitude. She feels the eyes of every single member of the coven on her and in true Madison fashion, she basks in it.
“Holy shit,” Queenie gapes.
“Oh my word,” Misty breathes.
But Zoe? Zoe is stunned to silence, unable to pull her gaze away from the blonde meeting Mallory at the bottom of the stairs.
“Madison,” Cordelia finally says, trying to reign in her shock.
Madison’s lips tilt up in that infamous smirk, her gaze focused mainly on Zoe.
“Merry Christmas, bitches. Thought you’d seen the last of me?”
Mallory inwardly groans at the comment, but she can’t help the fact she’s smiling.
Zoe isn’t quite sure what she’s feeling right now. What should she be feeling, anyway? She should feel angry, because why does Madison deserve another chance? She should feel relieved because there’s always been a Madison sized whole she’s ignored for years. She should be grateful that Mallory knew exactly what needed to be done. About a thousand emotions are swimming through her at once, and with it so many memories of her and Madison
For a moment, they all just stare at Madison before Misty and Cordelia are striding over to pull Madison into a hug she for once doesn’t fight. Queenie rolls her eyes but gets up and joins too, and after a moment’s hesitation Zoe is slowly following behind.
“You’re alive,” Cordelia muses when she pulls away.
Madison raises an eyebrow. “Wonder Girl over here worked a little Christmas miracle just for you.”
“It’s good to have you back, Maddie,” Misty grins.
“I’m letting you get away with calling me that because it’s Christmas.”
Queenie snorts. “Don’t tell me you’ve gotten soft on me now. I’ve been holding down your bitch reputation while you were gone.”
Madison rolls her eyes, but she’s laughing when Queenie pulls her into a hug. When she pulls away, Zoe is standing there in an impossibly adorable and awkward way, unsure of her next move.
“What,” Madison starts, quirking an eyebrow at her. “Did living on your own get too boring?”
Her comment seems to snap Zoe out of her hesitation because she steps forward with a scoff, “Hell hasn’t changed you at all, has it?”
“You don’t even know,” Madison says, hugging Zoe without another thought.
Zoe misses the way Madison’s words fall flat due to the truth behind them, that there are things she doesn’t understand and Madison can only wish to tell her.
“I’m sorry,” Madison murmurs as they hug, only for Zoe. “For, you know, everything.”
And it’s not specific in any way, but Zoe knows exactly what she means. There is still so much to be explained - and Zoe isn’t completely sure she knows what this dynamic is with Madison - but she knows that things are different. There is a shift with her return that brings hope and that excited feeling in Zoe’s chest.
Zoe sighs softly, holding onto Madison a little tighter. “I’m sorry, too.”
She looks past Madison’s shoulder to Mallory, who’s looking at them smile a warm smile.
“Thank you,” she mouths.
Mallory grins.

Looking back I see what went wrong (now it's time to make it right)
Phew! That sure took some time to FINALLY UPLOAD WHAT THE HECK TUMBLR
*clears throat*
Anyways I hope this is of your liking.
WARNING: light mentions of past abuse. No details about it though.
Sometimes, Carlos looked back at the years he spent in The Isle. And, sometimes, he smiled at the memories.
The ones that made him happy were, unsurprisingly, the ones where his mother was absent, so there weren’t that many of them. Cruella was a controlling being, who needed constant reassurance so that she could feel she was the one in power. That she was top dog, if you will (or top bitch, if you asked Carlos). So often, memories of the Isle meant memories of pain, of being beaten or burned or locked away in a closet, of being starved and forced to clean everything while Cruella just sat around and watched. Always ready to strike him and bring him down and make him apologize for things he hadn’t even done. They are memories of watching the once cruel, but smart woman, turn into a shallow shadow version if her former self.
So yes, most memories of the Isle made him sick to his stomach, because in most of those, Cruella is included. But then…
Then there were the ones that made him happy. And, unsurprisingly, they were the ones that were filled with Jay.
The day they met, for example. There was Carlos, running errands for his mother and Jay, stealing things for his father. He had wanted the fluffy coats Carlos had been told to purchase, but was surprised that when he tried to snatch them, the white-haired boy had held onto dear life, with wide scared eyes and a shaky voice.
“Please, don’t.”
Jay let go of the coat. Because it was so bizarre. Fluffy coats had not much functional value on the isle. And yet the kid was acting as if Jay was stealing the most important thing he had. It was the only item he had tried to steal and given up on. But he couldn’t do it. Not when the little boy was holding it like it was more precious than his life.
Ever since then they had been inseparable. Where one saw Jay running down the streets, Carlos wasn’t far behind. Where one saw Carlos buying at the market, Jay was in the shadows. Always watching. Always protecting him.
And Carlos couldn’t help but feel that he would be no one without Jay. Because the older boy had taken him under his wing, risen him from nothing. He taught him how to steal and fight for what was his and to stand up for himself. And Carlos never thanked him, because that wasn’t a thing on the Isle, but when they were alone he would give him a smile that shone brighter than any gold Jay could have ever hoped to find. And that was enough for them.
They made other friends. Jay started hanging out with Mal, though “hanging out” basically meant running around and causing chaos wherever they went. And Carlos became quite close to Evie, and they would spend afternoons working together on projects and machines to break down the barrier. They were a family, the four of them, even if family was a concept they didn’t know, they had managed to built one.
But Carlos knew that Jay was the closest he had ever gotten with someone. That he would ever get with someone. Jay had seen him as his absolute worst, and still stayed by his side. Carlos knew he had found someone important.
Auradon was good. At the very least, it was better than the isle.
Carlos and his friends now finally had a chance to break free from their parents’ hold. And it was showing: Mal was now attending Art classes and dating the King, Evie was getting straight A’s and starting her own fashion line, Jay was co-captain of both the Tourney team and the ROAR one… Heck, even Carlos had changed a lot. He was on top of his game when it came to designing new machines and he actually owned a dog now. Who would have thought? They were doing better than ever.
Except…
Well, Carlos really was grateful for all the changes that were happening in their lives. He really was. It’s just that now they weren’t the same. Their dynamics had shifted. He barely saw any of his friends anymore. And sure, he had made new friends and spent time with them. But it wasn’t the same, and it will never be. They weren’t Mal, or Evie. They weren’t Jay.
For Evil’s sake, how he missed just spending time with Jay. It seemed like such a luxury to even get to say hello to him nowadays.
And he had slowly gotten sick of it. But who was he to stop Jay from having fun and finally being free? They were family. He should be happy that Jay now had other things to do other than steal, fight and survive.
And yet…
He really was a bad friend, wasn’t he? With his selfish desire to keep Jay to himself. They had been JayandCarlos for years now, sure, but maybe this was just the end of that. So he could either stay and bear the pain of watching Jay go, or he could prepare himself for when the time finally came where Jay wouldn’t need him anymore.
Maybe it was time to break some ties.
It had been hard for Jay to notice. The slow rate at which it happened made it very difficult to pinpoint the exact moment it started, but looking back, Jay couldn’t help but feel that he should have noticed earlier. That he should have put a stop to all of it before it went too far. And now, he didn’t know what to do.
Sure, he had noticed that Carlos had been distant lately. They didn’t spend much time together ever since they got Mal back, slipping back into the routine they had gotten used to. And it was fine. He knew Carlos had always been kind of a loner and seeing him going out more often was good. It meant Jay didn’t have to worry about Carlos being left alone whenever he had to stay a little longer after practice.
But then, he slowly came to realize that Carlos wasn’t busy, he was just avoiding him. If the two of them ever found themselves alone, Carlos managed to find any excuses to leave. And it hurt, because maybe Carlos was getting tired of him. He knew he wasn’t nearly as smart as Carlos or Evie were, and maybe the smaller boy thought trying to talk to him about his interests just wasn’t worth all the trouble of explaining them to Jay. He always tried to understand, but never quite managed it. Not like Carlos did, at least.
He could work harder. He could show Carlos he cared, and that he didn’t want them to be so distant from each other anymore.
He just knew he couldn’t stand the silence between them anymore. So he walked into the library, knowing Carlos would be there studying. It seemed that was all he had time for now.
“Carlos, can we speak?” He called out softly as to not startle the boy. Carlos looked up at him with wide eyes, seemingly not hearing the peaceful and hopeful tone Jay had spoken with. He gulped hard, but followed him outside of the library, and they walked together to their dorm without saying another word. Though their minds were busily working with possible outcomes to whatever conversation was about to happened.
Finally, they walked inside their room, and Jay pushed the door close behind him with his foot, then leaned against the door as he tried to think of how to start. Carlos was eyeing everywhere nervously and doing a very bad job at hiding his emotions, but he didn’t even spare a glance at Jay, and that hurt.
“What is happening to us?” Hay mumbled under his breath, his voice ridden with fear and nostalgia. “Why won’t you talk to me anymore?”
Carlos immediately jumped into defense mode. “You’ve been busy. Going out with… Friends and stuff.” He crossed her arms, nails digging into the soft skin of his arms. “I had nothing to do with that.”
“True,” Jay nodded. “But I’m not talking about that. I’m asking why we stopped trying, why you run out of the room whenever we’re alone.”
Carlos pursed his lips, but didn’t reply.
Jay sighed, pressing himself against the wood further. “It’s my fault, isn’t it? I know I haven’t paid much attention to you lately. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you. But… It’s also not just that, so what is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m asking why you can’t even look at me anymore.”
“Because.” he could see Carlos’ mind reeling, deciding whether to share the information with him or not. “I’m scared.” He finally admitted in defeat, his head hanging low. He still looked very small, almost as if he wanted to disappear into himself. Jay wanted nothing more than to comfort him, so he slowly walked closer with his hands up, leaving his intentions clear and with enough room for Carlos to say no. When the boy didn’t refuse though, Jay wrapped his arms around him.
“You have nothing to be afraid of. I’m right here."And then, he started crying. Quietly in the way only Carlos knew. His body didn’t even shake with sobs, and his breaths were silent. The only indication that let Jay know what was actually happening was the way Carlos pressed harshly against his chest. He always did that when he cried.
"I thought you’d forget about me.” Carlos admitted. “That you’d find me useless now that you have more friends and things to do other than hang out with me.”
“Are you insane? What makes you think I’ll ever leave you?” Jay gripped him tighter. “I love you. An you know I protect what I love. Plus, Carlos, you’re unique. I could never replace you, much less with the guys in my team.” He sighed again. “I’m sorry I spent so much time away, but it won’t happen again. We’ll spend more time together.”
“You promise?”
“Of course.”
Minutes passed, and Carlos finally let go, so Jay took a small step back and surveyed the damage. His eyes were puffy, but apart from that, he seemed fine.
“Come on. Wanna play some videogames now? We can go to the kitchen to get some snacks.” He proposed, pushing against Carlos lightly with his elbow as a way to move past their talk. Carlos smiled and nodded, and so, together, they went to the kitchen and gathered as many sweets as possible. The best thing about Auradon, by far, was that there was always food available.
They encountered Mal and Evie on the division of the girls’ dorms and the boys’ one. “Movie night?” The purple haired girl asked, raising an eyebrow at their filled arms. The boys looked at each other.
“Videogame night.” Jay finally answered, breaking away their staring. Evie clapped her hands together excitedly.
“Awesome! I still need to beat you on that Mario Kart level.” She said, placing a hand on her hip. “Ready to lose?”
“Actually,” Carlos interrupted, glancing at Jay through his peripheral vision one last time. A small smile made its way into his phase. “It’s a boys’ night.”
“What?” Mal huffed. “You don’t have those.”
“Well, we do now.” Jay butted in. He loved the girls, but he and Carlos knew they just needed to spend time with each other right now.. “We can all get together sometime soon though, maybe tomorrow. I really do want to see someone finally beating Carlos.” He smiled, winking at the girls. “See you then.”
“See ya.” They called out, watching the boys walk away. When they disappeared into the hallways, they finally looked at each other and smiled. “See? Told you they’d get back together in no time.” Evie said, turning around and starting to walk back to their room. Mal followed up.
“Yeah, guess you got that one right, princess.” She admitted. “But you also did say it would drive them to realize they’re into each other. And though they both looked stupid with those smiles on their faces, didn’t look like they confessed anything yet.”
“Give it time, Mal. Give it time.” Evie answered. “They’ll get together soon enough.”
“Hey!” Mal suddenly spoke, stricken by the idea. “Wanna make a bet on how long that’ll take?”
“Are you asking me to make a bet on the romantic lives of my friends?” Evie grinned. “Because if so, you’re on!”
