GetBackers headshots since I finished rewatching the anime a bit ago with a friend. Some of these men were impossible to draw!! Had to redraw Akabane 3 times and I'm still not sure if I captured him well.

Just realized something devastating about BD Ep8
So you know how Kazuki called Rei after Rei finished the job, when he was just sitting there?
I was like "why would Kazuki call him if he knew he was on a job, that could have been really dangerous if his timing was bad"
In fact, I was even worried that Kazuki would call him while he's fighting, throwing him off and causing him to get hurt (so much angst potential oof)
But Kazuki's timing was too good. So I'm guessing the GPS in Rei's phone is accurate enough that Kazuki could see he'd been in the exact same spot for a while, not moving around like before.
Knowing Kazuki, there must have been a moment, maybe right before he called, where he thought the reason why Rei wasn't moving was because he was dead or badly hurt. There must have been a moment, however tiny, where Kazuki thought he'd lost another partner and parent to his child.
Maybe that's why he called when he did.

Yeah, something about Misaki crying and saying sorry for leaving Miri alone when Miri was telling her how much she loved Papa Rei and Papa Kazuki rubbed me the wrong way.
It's like she wasn't actually listening to a word Miri was saying. Her response to Miri telling her that Rei and Kazuki ARE her papas, and that she loved them was "I'm sorry I made you feel so lonely. But don't worry, I'm going to change."
Nowhere in her rambling did Miri say she was lonely. Nowhere did she imply it either.
It's as if Misaki thinks Miri only cared for Rei and Kazuki because she was lonely due to the fact that Misaki wasn't there. As if Rei and Kazuki were just placeholders for an "actual" family. A placeholder for Miri's "actual" parents. And it's implied by Misaki that it's her. Why? Cause she's related to Miri by blood, and Kazuki and Rei are not, of course. Those two aren't your real papas, she says, even though they raised you for an entire year, took responsibility when I tossed you away.
It did make me mad, I'm not going to lie. Beyond the fact that this is such a common fucking thing for unconventional families to hear - oh you're not real family, you don't share genetics, or a real family needs a mother and father, etc. Etc.-
Kazuki and Rei acted more caring then Misaki had for a majority of the show. And she just. Doesn't seem to see past her own little world to realize that parenthood is not about just blood, nor realize that Miri doesn't want two separate families, she wants everyone she loves together.
I appreciated that she was trying to change for Miri. It shows that she's human, and I'm very glad PA works didn't demonize her. She's an interesting and nuanced character. But this episode didn't make me like her any more. I didn't hate her, even from the beginning I didn't hate her. But I don't like her either.
She still had a long way to go before she could count herself as a good parent. I know people are pissed that they killed her off, but it made sense to me. Because the amount of development she still needs to undergo far outstrips the limited amount of episodes this show has. And the thing is, the show isn't about her. It's about the buddy daddies. The alternative is Miri watching her die of cancer. What were y'all expecting.

This was originally going to be a more general post about how people have bad takes about Sylvester and Florencia, but it kinda got away from me because I started realizing that the Rozemyne/Wilfried engagement is probably the thing that's caused the most misunderstandings about him.
First of all, it was literally Ferdinand's idea originally. Seriously, look at the "Year One: Complete" chapter in p4v3. Such a simple detail, but it seems like a lot of people forget it.
Second, it did not happen because Sylvester favors Wilfried. In fact, Wilfried is basically just a means to an end in all of this. It happened because Sylvester prioritizes *Florencia*. Sylvester doesn't care if "commoner blood" or Ferdinand or whoever else becomes the next archduke. He cares about cementing Florencia's place as the mother of the next archduke. And on top of that, Sylvester was trying to grant Rozemyne's wish of staying in Ehrenfest. Mostly because obviously she benefits the duchy, but also he literally says that he still felt bad about tearing her away from her loving family and wants to at least grant her wish of staying near them.
Wilfried in particular benefiting from the engagement was just an extra little bonus in all of this. If Charlotte was a man, or Melchior was older, the engagement would've been with them instead. How do we know this? Because Sylvester and Florencia already gave up on the guaranteed Aub thing after the Ivory Tower incident, and if Charlotte or Melchior were an option then they'd be much more secure candidates than Wilfried (even completely disregarding skills and whatnot, Charlotte and Mechior not being criminals would give the Leisegang's much less leverage).
Which brings us to the final piece of this: "Sylvester is such a bad father! He didn't let Wilfried step down even though he wanted to!!" Let's remember the situation here: Wilfried picked quite literally the worst possible moment to start backing out, which Sylvester points out. Sylvester even said that he would've let Wilfried step down and take responsibility for Rozemyne himself, but Wilfried didn't change his mind until it was too late. Remember, he wasn't suffering silently wanting to step down the whole engagement: he changed his mind *after* his conversation with Ortwin, which was *after* the FVF purge.
Don't get me wrong, Sylvester has a lot to be criticized for, but this the way people try to erase the complexity of layers that Kazuki-sensei weaves into her characters is so maddening.

You wanna know something real fuckin ironic?
Rei was already letting Miri go. He and Kazuki agreed to have her go with Misaki, and for the two of them to cut all contact. Rei was on the path to becoming the Suwa heir, free of distractions. He was becoming detached again, thinking he could never change. Shigeki already had what he wanted.
And yet, that wasn't enough. Shigeki got greedy, and that greed made him nervous. It made him fumble.
Because by having a distant source that Rei would no longer be distracted by, but was still attached to, not only did Shigeki have Rei where he wanted him, he even had leverage. Rei said point blank he'd do anything Shigeki wanted, kill anyone he ordered Rei kill, as long as Miri be left alone. Shigeki had everything he needed to keep his ace card under his thumb. Unfortunately, he's not as good at gambling as he thought, because his winning move was to threaten the one thing that would make Rei desert.
You see, Shigeki thought that Rei was too changed by his time with Miri and Kazuki to ever truly be the way he envisioned, and that Rei would at some point get distracted by his little family, by that life. In the event that Rei reversed his decision to separate from Miri (and that's only if Rei actually went through with it), it most likely would have happened later, with enough build up over a prolonged period that Rei would eventually grow tired of his life as a Suwa and leave. In the meantime, Shigeki had a Rei who was still currently loyal to him, and dedicated to becoming the Suwa heir. You know what that means? Shigeki had time. Time to ensure that Rei would not go back on his decision. Time to wear Rei down and make him truly loyal, which over the years could allow Shigeki to remove Miri from the picture permanently without worrying about Rei defecting.
But Shigeki jumped the gun. He was too nervous about the idea of Rei having changed that he completely misjudged just how far Rei had done so. He thought Rei was loyal (afraid) enough towards him that he could still do whatever he wanted and Rei would just accept it, but as Mei from Avatar once said, "I love Zuko [Miri] more than I fear you", and that was Shigeki's mistake. He made the wrong assessment of thinking that the robotic shell he had made out of his son was still exactly the same as he had been before he moved out of the Suwa mansion, despite every sign pointing to the opposite, that Rei now had feelings and wants and a family he was willing to stick by. Change like this means means you also need to change up the formula, work around the new information to come up with a solution that fits the current situation. Yet Shigeki's fear made him forget his logic, because he used the same old methods and failed to realize that his way didn't work anymore. The wound from the separation was too fresh, Rei hadn't yet adjusted to life without Miri, and he hadn't even moved away from Kazuki at that point. If Shigeki had been patient, he'd of had the most ideal outcome given the change, and yet he still managed to shoot himself in the foot by overreacting and inadvertently causing Rei to desist.
In other words, Suwa Shigeki is an idiot.
In other words, Suwa Shigeki fucked up.

I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet, but it's something I caught/thought about while watching ep. 11. (If someone has already pointed this out and provided a more in-depth and eloquent explanation, then my apologies).
Tumblr media
This is one of the first times Kazuki is shown fighting with a gun in the main timeline. I might be wrong, but the only other time Kazuki is shown fighting with a gun is in ep. 7's flashback to the night Yuzuko was killed.
Tumblr media
Kazuki has been shown handling a gun in promotional art and technically used a gun in the prologue of ep. 1. (While you might disagree, I'm not really counting that moment since, at least for me, it's still unclear as to where the prologue falls into the overall BD timeline and there wasn't much of a fight leading up to Kazuki firing it). With this in mind, ep. 11 is the first time we really see him in action with a gun.
For one thing, as Rei talks about in this episode, Kazuki is the "brains" of the duo. So, when they work together, Kazuki does most of the recon, scouting, and distracting (Exp: their assigment from ep. 2 or Rei mentioning how the scout missions Kyu gave them in ep. 5 matches more with Kazuki's typical work). Since this series has more or less revolved around Kazuki and Rei as a team, we've only really seen Kazuki on missions with Rei, who is likely the better-trained or more accurate shooter/gunsman. Therefore, Kazuki takes on the more info gatherer role. Also, as an assassin, I highly doubt Kazuki is that inept at using a gun. Instead, he's just normally not in a role that requires him to use one.
I like to think Kazuki hasn't used or fought with a gun since Yuzuko's death. This could potentially be because he links her death to the necessity of fighting with a gun or after her death, Kyu did not believe Kazuki was mentally in a space to handle a gun or a mission that might require him to use one. Or perhaps, Kazuki was always more interested in and better at his scouting assignments, so once he was paired with Rei, he no longer felt the need to have to continue fighting in this way (or refusing missions that required him to use a gun).
Regardless, I think it would be so interesting that Kazuki's concern over Miri's safety is what pulls him out of this fear or refusal to fight with a gun. Someone, or rather Ogino (again), is threatening his family, so Kazuki's gonna do whatever it takes to protect them.
Given his line of work, I think Kazuki has a deep understanding of how guns can destroy and can protect. In Yuzuko's case, Kazuki witnessed the destructive and deadly side of the gun. After spending years reflecting on this, and recently giving himself the permission to change as a person, when it comes to Miri and Misaki, Kazuki now understands how he can use this weapon of death to protect the ones he loves. Yes, it is still a bringer of death, but this time Kazuki is gonna try everything in his power to not allow it to be for his family.
While Misaki did not survive, Kazuki was able to protect Miri. I don't think "inspired" is the right word, but something about Miri being in life-threatening danger is what caused Kazuki to just rush into the Unasaka's apartment, ready to fight whoever was threatening his little Miri. Kazuki fighting in a way that is unlike his normal style on assignments and being so willing to run into battle with little preparation was just one of the many things that stuck out to me from this episode. Essentially, Miri was in danger and Kazuki was gonna stop at nothing to protect her, perhaps that's why he opted for a gun this time. Kazuki was gonna use the weapon he associates and has first hand experience with, in terms of its ability to cause death, to take out any threat that would try to harm Miri.

Review Proper
I can’t believe Yamanaka Hiko’s been terrorizing me for over twelve years now. OH MY GOD I’M SO OLD. And true to the Yamanaka Hiko brand, this turned out to be another fantasy masterpiece (read His 500 Years of Suffering Romance). This was definitely the type of thing that would do great even without the BL aspect of it. Now, I did have an issue with Kidou being an asshole (he's almost killed Yoshino more than once), so I’m not excusing it. But I do get how and why he turned out to be like that and I'm aware that it's important for his character development. The world-building was great, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely dubcon 2015. I would strongly advise you not to get into it if that's a deal breaker for you.
Anyway, onto the voice work.
Souma used a tone so close to Gucci's that I kept imagining Gucci being Yoshino. Yes, I didn't read the manga while listening to the BLCD. It was like after graduating Karasuno, Gucci went on to become a teacher, then a donor lmao. His Yoshino panics more like Honda-san, however, so my final verdict is that his Yoshino is half-Gucci, half-Honda-san.
This isn't Nakajiki and Souma's first rodeo, but I'm glad to say that their performance/dynamic here is different from Mikeneko and XL Size. I expected Kidou to be a mix of Amano and Anaconbayashi-kun 'cause the former was cocky and the latter was stoic, but Kidou was only 50% of that mix and 50% brooding, suffering, I'll-protect-you top. Am I even making any sense? Again, I listened to the BLCD first, but the sound direction they gave Nakajiki was very different from what I thought he'd sound like after I read the manga. It’s almost like what happened with OnoD’s expressive Hasebe-kun in the Kotonoha BLCD vs the more stoic Hasebe-kun in the manga.
The voice work of our two leads was 👌. This might just be my fave out of their pairings 'cause the sex isn't over-the-top like XL Size and Mikeneko. I will say that I wasn't completely sold on Yamashita Seiichirou as Shibata-san 'cause I feel like he speaks too slowly, but I'm sure it'll grow on me by the time I listen to their spin-off. KawaKen was fine. My heart broke for him every time Shibata-san rejected him, so it's safe to say he's got Taki-kun down already.
Tumblr media
Oh. I did have a slight issue with the sfx too. Why was it so watery??? Lmao. Even r18 otome cds aren't that wet. But it's not so glaring that it'll turn you off.
The BLCD was almost perfectly accurate to the manga. I highly recommend this to those learning mid to higher levels of Japanese. Futekiya has licensed volumes 1 & 2, so please try to support the official release if you can. I'd be lying if I said that I agree with how they translated it so... literally?, but I think it's also important to see how things are translated that way if you're aiming to dip your toes into translation aside from studying the language. For example, they used "Living God" throughout the manga instead of "Ikigami." It's correctly translated, but I personally prefer retaining the original title. You know, like how Viz uses "Kaiju no. 8" instead of "Monster no. 8?"
God knows if I'll ever survive the spinoff that I wanted to work on. I avoided talking about it for a reason lmao. Anyway, if y'all liked this, then please give 500 Years (Ono Yuuki x Suzuki Tatsuhisa) and Shortcake no Ichigo Sawaranaide (Nojima Hirofumi x Takeuchi Ken). These two are android bls and Ikigami to Donor is more guide bl, but they both share a futuristic vibe.

How do you feel about episode 10?
Anon I hope you know I had no idea it was out yet and rushed to open it as soon as I saw this I AM IN SHAMBLES
Ok so as I was going through the op again remember this shot?
Tumblr media
A metaphorical barrier between Kazuki and Rei and Miri, which makes a LOT more sense now that we know Misaki is taking Miri back. The act of holding the frame symbolizes kazurei's efforts to give Miri the happy life she has now, but they are outside the frame while Miri is inside. They can look in, Miri can't look out. They can't touch or interact with each other anymore.
On to the actual episode lmfao can we talk about how Misaki made herself look so cool and motherly in the kitchen when it turns out she was just microwaving a convenience store meal in the microwave I laughed so hard.
Tumblr media
(Also Kazuki's line about there being nothing worse than somebody else messing around in your kitchen just solidified my ocd hc for him this man is sooo ocd adhd coded)
So this episode we learn that Misaki is about to die which, WOAH, was not expecting that. It adds a lot more gravity to the situation and is a believable motivation to take your daughter back. But, again, this does not mean she should be Miri's mother. Because once she grows up Miri will have to constantly be reminded of the fact that she was abandoned by her mom when she was 4. Kinda fucked up!
I do appreciate that Misaki is willing to spend the rest of her life dedicated to Miri, but, as Rei and Kazuki say, it's still just about her. She's only approaching Miri now because she's about to die and doesn't want any regrets before then. But Misaki is right too, their work is dangerous, and on top of that they're being actively targeted right now. The writers did a good job setting up the moral dilemma. The most important factor here though is Miri's happiness, which to her includes both her Papas and Mama so we'll see how that goes.
(That said, if Misaki does end up taking Miri back for good, isn't that cruel? To abandon your daughter, then take her back and properly care for her, while knowing you're just going to leave her alone again sooner rather than later.)
(Another interesting tidbit is Kazuki telling Misaki not to smoke. We know Rei has given up smoking, at least around Miri. Maybe a hint about who will be the best fit for Miri in the end?)
Then there's the family outing which was so adorable and chock full of references to past eps. Love this silent exchange between Kazuki and Rei what are you guys talking about up there let me into your heads...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THIS SHOT WITH THE CHRISTMAS WREATH ABOVE THEM GRAHHHH the final ep is gonna be during Christmas and parallel Kazuki catching Miri in ep 1 I just know it.
Tumblr media
This dynamic where Kazuki is all too ready to give up on his happiness because he's already lost it before so many times versus Rei who doesn't want to accept it because *this* is his first happiness is juicy as hell and I'm gonna need all the fanartists and fic writers to step on it cause damn!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kazuki putting his scarf around Miri like the cat :( sobbing ueueue need the cat and Miri to return to them later. And as if this ep wasn't painful enough they really had Kazuki closing it on THIS goddamn line
Tumblr media
Like just shoot me in the head at this point it would hurt less.

Actually I think this is a fantastic set up for the perfect parallel.
Misaki realised she needed Miri just as much as Miri needed her by hitting rock bottom. She finally realised she needed change, that by allowing others to hurt her, she was hurting herself and that she deserved to take her life back while repenting for all her mistakes and the harm that she caused.
Kazuki and Rei were born at rock bottom. Then they somehow kept digging deeper down. Being in their profession of contract killing has been traumatic and abusive on them to the point where they genuinely hate themselves. They understand they're bad people and that they're hurting people just to make money but as they were set up to kill, they don't think they can do anything about it. Being hitmen has taken everything from them; it's not attractive, it's not remotely glorified or positive which I respect the show immensely for. Miri was a sudden spike in their standard of living though as they got a peek into exactly what they were missing, exactly what the organisation took from them, and when Miri's gone they'll realise that what came before wasn't quite living. I think this could be a wake up call for them. That taking agency, hell, dying while betraying the organisation, is better than the whatever slump they've been stuck in.
I also think it's interesting to note that while they took excellent care of Miri, she was an escapism for them, and I don't think painting them as entirely selfless is fair because they're not. Miri was a dream, and I think the writing on this show is excellent for conveying that so perfectly.

After ep 8, I just had a realization, a theory mayhaps
SPOILERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we know how Ryo was the sniper that caused the unfortunate "accidental" death of Yuzuko, well Kazuki doesn't know this according to Ryo's bio.
Tumblr media
The Suwa Organization is familiar with Kazuki, hence he's Rei's partner.
After today's episode, it shows the Suwa Organization strictly forbids any kind of relationship outside work to prevent someone from getting weaker, if someone were to break this rule, they'd be seen as disloyal and punished with death, theirs or their loved one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryo wasn't after the same target as Kazuki, he was purposefully ordered to kill Yuzuko.

Do you mind doing a cute bokukiri fluff, they are just chilling with eachother cause bokugo and kirishima had a long day out saving people. ✨
Ack!! I'd LOVE to do this, thank you for requesting!! I am currently working on a KiriBaku/Bakushima one-shot collection that I plan to release in the New Year, so this will be perfect!! I will admit I am more of a sucker for angst, but we all need a lil fluff in our lives...shall we make it Christmas themed? ✨
Word count: 2896
His fingers are slow to move as he scrolls through their previous messages. This had to be the spot. Right? Looking around, he makes note of the street names and the landmarks surrounding them. Everything should be correct. He patrolled the city streets and even chased down the occasional villain through the winding paths.
Snowflakes melt against the glow of the phone's cracked screen. Making a mental note to get it replaced soon, the hero quickly rubs the phone against his pant leg before pocketing it. As breath crystallizes with each puff, he watches the snow globe of a world in search of a pair of warm cinnamon eyes. Children tug their relatives' coat sleeves, desperate to show them the toys they want from Saint Nicholas. Street vendors sit patiently with rosy cheeks and smiles warm enough to combat the frigid breeze. Performers on nearly every corner participate in friendly competition for an audience and a few extra yen in their pocket. Whimsical shades of reds, greens, white, and even cheery hues of blue and yellow decorate every surface. Trees are easily mistaken for twisted candy canes. Street lights glow and illuminate the snowflakes to be mistaken for pixie dust against the harsh night sky.
But no matter where he looks, he can't find him.
With a huff, he folds his arms over his chest to block out the cold that nips at him.
"Miri! Come back here," someone calls.
A small hand tugs on his hero costume. When he finds out who it's attached to. He smiles warmly at the little girl behind him. Pink cheeks and nose are pinched by Jack Frost, but it doesn't freeze the sweet beam she gives him.
Kneeling to be eye-level, he ignores the snow that soaks his knee and sends goose flesh throughout his body even more. "Well, who might you be, kid?"
"I'm Miri Unasaka! I'm also the biggest fan of you, Mr!"
He ruffles her hair as her parents finally catch up to her. "Damn, how'd she get so fast?" the man with black hair and tired eyes grumbles. "Holy hell, Miri, don't run off like that."
"Rei! I told you to watch your words with Miri," the other man spoke. His rusty eyes didn't match the pair he was searching for.
"Cut the crap, Kazuki. It wasn't like you were any better when you stubbed your pinkie toe," Rei snaps.
Kazuki pouts as Miri laughs. "That was different..."
He scoops up Miri and hands her to Kazuki, who hugs her dearly. "Thank you! We almost lost her, and it would've broken my heart if we got into the wrong hands."
Rei nods. "Yeah, thanks."
Miri ways vigorously as they walk in the same direction as where they came from. "Bye-bye, Mr. Red!"
He chuckles. The kids are so cute, in his opinion. Their little chubby cheeks and fingers, always eager to grab something, never fail to make him grin. The impulsivity of youth would make for a lifetime of adventures, much more satisfactory compared to the hero missions he takes. Alas, he'll never be able to experience the joys of parenthood. His life is too dangerous, and he would never want to risk such trauma to a child.
"Mr. Red, huh? Should I try using that when we're on patrols, Eijirou?"
Eijirou whips around and throws his arms around the man behind him. He can recognize that voice from anywhere. Especially the soft curse that slips past his teeth when Eijirou squeezes him tight. "Katsuki! What took you so long?"
When they pull away, allowing room for the puffs of steam to mingle between their lips, Bakugou kisses Eijirou's temple, warming his core. "I got you something to warm you up. It's colder than a witch's tit out here."
Eijirou snorts at the remark and accepts the warm drink. "Thank you."
Bakugou grunts as he takes a sip from his own cup.
The taste of smooth caramel and crunchy salt mingle on his tongue as a splash of the chocolate beverage singes his tongue. Eijirou quickly swallows to prevent further damage. But he ends up putting himself through a coughing fit as the drink burns the rest of his throat. "Hot," he croaks.
He tosses his head back with a laugh. "That's why you blow on it, idiot," Bakugou smirks. "You'd really think I'd give you something cold...out in this weather? You fucking need all the warmth you can get when walking around practically naked."
Nearly dropping his drink, he gives an over-the-top gasp with the back of his wrist pressing against his forehead. "Oh, how scandalous of me to wear such a revealing hero costume! Whatever shall I do to prevent myself from freezing over?"
Bakugou shakes his head with a beckoning arm. "C'mere, you idiot."
"But I'm your idiot," Eijirou sings while Bakugou wraps his arm around his waist. The insides of his frigid self melt when a low laugh vibrates Bakugou's chest.
"Shut up, Red."
As they savor the taste of hot chocolate, they also enjoy each other's presence in a way nobody else can. Eijirou secretly treasures each possessive touch Bakugou displays, whether it's a firmer grip on his waist when passing through thick crowds, a gentle squeeze and rub along his bicep to ease his chills, and tucking Eijirou even closer against him to prevent him from straying—not that he even would in the first place. Eijirou knows how much Bakugou cares for him, and he knows how much Eijirou cares for him. Plunging down into the spiraling depths of the Earth just to put a smile on his lips is a mere start for all the things Eijirou would do for the man beside him.
They are almost at the train station until someone twists their head and cries, "Ground Zero! Oh, oh! Look, it's Red Riot with Ground Zero!"
Murmurings spread, and heads began to swivel. In most cases, people don't tend to care that the second and fifteenth heroes are seen together. They run an agency together, after all. However, whenever the occasional fan calls out to them, it sparks something in the other bystanders, and they realize that heroes straight from comic books tread the same streets that they do. Unfortunately, Eijirou is too much of a push-over for meet-and-greets. Whereas Bakugou takes any opportunity possible to prevent being trapped by the adoring masses.
"Riot! Riot! Please have my babies!"
"Ground Zero, give us a smile!"
"Show us a cool explosion!"
"Hey, I was here first. Red Riot, Ground Zero, can you please sign my forehead? Or just anywhere?"
Eijirou yelps when Katsuki throws him over his shoulder. "What the—"
His voice is ripped from his throat with a silent scream and clenched teeth. An explosion launches them both into the air. Bakugou fires blast after weak blast to prevent damage yet keep them both safe from the people.
"Holy—oh my God, Kats—Holy shit!" Eijirou gasps, watching the clamoring people scramble for their phones. The citizens grow smaller and smaller while the pair blast higher and higher into the sky. His stomach flips as his heart leaps into his throat. Clutching tight enough onto Bakugou's costume for Eijirou's fingers to ache, he screws his eyes shut, rambling various pleas to not be dropped and for them to not plummet to their deaths. He manages a trembling pout when Bakugou emits a cruel laugh.
"It's not funny," he exclaims, clamping harder onto the pro-hero. "Warn me next time, asshole! You know I hate to be up in the air without warning."
"Eiji, we landed three minutes ago."
"What?"
"Good-fucking-grief, are you the deaf one now? I said—"
He peels an eye open only to be greeted with Bakugou's back profile and mounds of snow blanketing the cement roofing. The roof? Are we on top of the agency? Eijirou extracts himself from Bakugou, confirming his suspicions when his boots crunch against undisturbed snow. He's about to rant about ignoring the sweet fans but is promptly silenced with a kiss.
"Finally got you all to myself for once," he smirks, cupping Eijirou's face. It's a little awkward with his massive gauntlets in the way, but he appreciates the gesture. "Stupid bastards don't know when to leave people be."
"Well, we are what most might consider celebrities," Eijirou grins against another kiss.
He licks his lips, avid to kiss and be kissed breathless—senseless, even—in the frigid cold as snowflakes settle like dust in their hair and lashes. But Bakugou pulls away, tugging Eijirou's wrist, leading him to the door. "'S fucking cold out here. C'mon."
The door creaks open and shuts with a sharp ka-chunk! Bakugou keeps a firm grip on Eijirou, even after they step onto a random floor and await the next elevator to bring them the rest of the distance. The thick fabric works quickly in heating his hand, leaving Eijirou to wonder how much explosive sweat is collecting in Bakugou's palms and leaking into his gauntlets. He doesn't mind it, yet Bakugou must have sensed something because he pulled away. "Need to drop off my gear, then I'll take you home."
Eijirou laughs as the metal doors slide open. "We live to—"
"Shut up. I'm still going to be the one to take you home. You suck ass when it comes to driving."
He whines and playfully smacks Bakugou's shoulder. "You can't say things like that when you've gotten into more road rage accidents."
"That was one time, Red," he snarls.
"But it was one more time than me!"
"Oh, shut up!"
"Why don't you make me?"
And just like that, hands cage him in the corner of the elevator cart. Cracked lips crush him in a mouth-watering kiss. As if on autopilot, Eijirou digs his hands through Bakugou's hair, pulling him in and deepening the euphoric sensation. Eijirou is definite of one thing in life. It's that he will never grow tiresome to Bakugou's touch.
He giggles as he chases after the feeling, only to be left dry as Bakugou exits the elevator cart. "Don't get greedy, now. It'll be harder to savor you when we get home."
"You sound like you want to eat me," Eijirou cracks up, patting Bakugou's shoulder lovingly before leaning on it for support.
They're in the workshop, boots clanking with faint thumps against the grated floor. Someone flicks on the light, and only the necessary lights flicker with a steady thrum from the generator to follow. Eijirou grins at the memories of ranting about stupid villains as they fix their hero gear. The couple spends more hours in the workshop than they do at home. Bakugou has always been fussy with his equipment, especially. He always shoos Hatsume out whenever he gives the equipment tune-ups. Eijirou had one too many times almost meeting his maker when he'd leave out screws and washers near Bakugou's gear.
"What's so fucking funny?" Bakugou spits, beginning to unclip the gauntlets. The devices hiss and clack as they slowly release his forearms. "Oi!"
Between giggles, Eijirou placed fluttering kisses along Bakugou's working shoulders. "You're just so grumpy today, and teasing you is too easy."
Bakugou tucks away his right gauntlet before working on the left. "The fuck? I am not easy to tease!"
He holds Bakugou even closer than he thought was possible, burying his face into the crook of his neck. "Whatever you say, my little gremlin."
"I'm not some fucking gremlin. I'm also taller than you, so fuck off."
"Sure, sure."
●•●•●•●
The door swishes open, thwacking against the door stop as the hero walks in. Katsuki can't hide his grin, even if it kills him. The joyous sounds from his lover never fail to delight Katsuki.
"Kats! Ack—dude, I...I can wa-oh!" Kirishima cries out as Katsuki sloppily adjusts the bridal-style grip on him. He loops his arms around his neck, clutching onto him like the last buoy in a ruthless sea. "Stop! Stop! You're gonna drop me!"
Fed up with his complaining, Katsuki pulls Kirishima closer to his face as he kicks the door shut. Their lips meet again for only God knows how many times now. Not bothering to set him down, Katsuki travels to the bedroom and tosses Kirishima on the bed. "How does a bath sound, hm?" Katsuki asks while he finally crouches down to unlace his boots.
"That'd be fantastic. I had to chase down a villain and ran into a wall they constructed with their quirk." Kirishima laughs, beginning to slip off the winter top of his hero costume.
Katsuki inhales a sharp breath, shaking his head. "Damn, that would've hurt. Did you catch the bitch, at least?"
While he dresses into pyjamas, Kirishima explains. "Yes, but no—"
"Yes, but no?" Katsuki interrupts, sliding a well-worn shirt over his head. The shirt in question is all black except for a dark red gear printed over the chest with two R's interlocking below it. As much as Katsuki bitches about how much of an eyesore the article is, it's one of the favorite things he owns.
"Will you let me finish?" Kirishima takes Katsuki walking into the bathroom as a yes. "So, the villain was doing some form of unarmed robbery? It was bizarre. They had civilians trapped in a—a weird box he constructed out of who knows what. I managed to break them out as Jirou and Sero tag-teamed to keep the villain contained, but somehow they got out. Like I said, this dude's quirk was weird. Anyway, we got onto a pursuit on foot, and the bugger threw people at me."
He arches a brow, mixing soap with the warm water in the tub. The water begins to foam as it turns into a deep shade of pink, and the scent of cherries tints the air. "People? Holy shit, Ei."
"I know!" Kirishima says, clearly exasperated at the memory. Katsuki turns away as Kirishima steps into the bathroom and sinks into the bath. Once the noise of movement slows, Katsuki faces him again and works on scrubbing the jell from his hair. "I managed to safely get them out of my way, but didn't pay attention and slammed my face into a massive freaking wall."
Katsuki barks out a laugh. It grows louder and more powerful when Kirishima throws him a dirty side-eye. "Sorry...sorry, but that's so fucking stupid. Did you at least use your quirk?"
Knees pull up to Kirishima's chest as he sulks. "No..."
It's a struggle to hold in Katsuki's snort.
"I managed to catch the dude, and thankfully, Eri was out doing an internship patrol with Toogata. She reversed my injuries, and that was when you messaged me."
"That's good. Don't want your stupid, cute face to get fucked." Katsuki sighs at Kirishima's faint laughter. He loves it when his boy laughs. Or when he smiles. Anything his Kirishima does puts his heart through loops, strangling itself on its strings. "Anything sore? Need me to use my quirk?"
Kirishima hums in thought. "My neck's still a little tender, and could you?"
He grins, heating his palms just enough to not burn Kirishima. Kirishima groans in relief once Katsuki starts working his digits into his skin. "You do not believe how good that feels, Kats."
Katsuki snorts. "You little sycophant," he snarks.
"Hey!" Kirishima protests, going rigid before relaxing again under his touch. "Besides, you have no right to talk when you like being praised."
Sucking his teeth, Katsuki can't find a way to argue his way out of that one.
After the bath, Katsuki leaves Kirishima to tug on some pyjamas. While waiting, Katsuki scrolls through the movie options and plays an old Christmas movie. He's interrupted when a voice whistles down the stairs, pulling his eyes from the screen. Kirishima grins, displaying his pointed teeth. "Really? Charlie Brown, again?" he asks, taking his hands from his pockets.
Rolling his eyes, Katsuki takes in Kirishima's choice of clothing. He only wears gaudy candy-red pants. Simple patterns like white deer, snowflakes, and fir trees. "You really need to burn that abomination," Katsuki chuckles.
Kirishima shrugs and flops onto the couch, snuggling close to Katsuki. "It's not Christmas unless the ugly pyjamas are worn."
Katsuki huffs when Kirishima begins to pepper his jaw and neck with kisses, unable to reach his lips from their current position. "You sappy dork." He sits up, yanking Kirishima further up onto his lap. "Kiss me properly if you want to pull that shit."
Lips meet as suspires mingle between them. Katsuki can't get enough of the way Kirishima gasps and hums in delight. Brows furrow as they carry out their little game of chasing each other's mouths, determined to be the one to share the last kiss. Hands card through hair and curl around napes. Noses brush in tandem, fitting like perfect pieces in a perfect puzzle. Everything feels so perfect with Kirishima, and Katsuki refuses to have enough, in constant need of more.
"Okay! Okay. You—mmnh...win, you win!" Kirishima murmurs between the suffocating dance between them.
Katsuki pulls Kirishima close to his chest and begins to stroke his hair. A proud smile stretches his lips.
They sit in blissful silence, treasuring one another's silence as they watch the rest of the movie. Whether the yawn that escapes Kirishima's mouth is unfortunate or not, Katsuki can't tell. So he waits to hear another yawn that stretches out much longer than the last. "Tired, Mr. Red?"
"Shush, we all know it's gonna be Mr. and Mr. Bakugou one day," Kirishima blurts, weary from his long day.
His heart squeezes at the thought, ears scarlet. Katsuki ignores the comment and continues. "Whatever. Need me to turn off the movie?"
Kirishima curls deeper into Katsuki, shaking his head. "Nah. I'm just—I'm totally..."
Peaceful slumber claims him as Katsuki ruffles his hair with a smile. "Merry Christmas, idiot."
I like how this came out. Did YOU like how this came out? I tinkered with a new writing style you can probably tell I worst motivation in nearly half-way through, haha!! I am elated that you requested this, dear annon! I'll have this posted on my Wattpad and AO3 accounts in case you ever want an easy access to read them again!! Also, YES I did add a Buddy Daddies cameo, I just finished the anime and needed to get it out of my system before the hyper-fixations set it.
By the way...@ao3-shenanigans, I am slowly but surely working through your request! I've been having a few setbacks and other requests flooding in, but I'll get to it as soon as possible!! Thank you everyone for reading!!

AnS Ask Game - No one asked but here's my full answer sheet;)
1.Favorite character
It's too hard to pick one because the dynamics among the characters is exactly why I enjoy AnS so much🤔. Let's just say I love everyone equally🥰 (Maybe less for Mitsu tho) (I resemble Hisame even in this regard lol)
2.Character you hate with a passion
Nah I really don't have one either. Sensei's really good at building up characters and it's hard to genuinely hate any one of them.
3.Character who grew on you eventually
It wouldn't be a surprise that it's Hisame but it would probably surprise you that he grew on me simply because sensei's art improved so much and I just can't get enough of his pretty face lol. But of course his personality growth is particularly interesting to me as well.
4.Character with the best hairstyle
Tariga!!!! Let me do your braids!!!!!🤩🤩🤩
Also Kazuki's ponytail yes yes yes🤩🤩🤩
Hisame's casually messy hair has a unique style too😎😎😎
5.Character with the best design
You mean clothes?🤔 I'd say Shirayuki, and Hisame has the potential to be a model as well lol.
6.Character you would date in real life
After some serious thinking I would say🤔……Kazuki!😋 (Wait he's underage isn't he???) But let's just say if it's not illegal to date him x), I think it'll be fun to date someone who's a bit (you sure it's 'a bit'?) younger than me and who's always so cheerful and energetic wherever he goes. He's also simple-hearted and I think it's super cute(ˊ˘ˋ*)♡. Last but not least, JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE💗💗😍😍
Oh and yes I'd definitely date Tariga too just for his pretty face💕💕🥰🥰
7.Character you would marry in real life
Ahh…This one's hard. To be honest I don't think I'd make a good marriage candidate for any one of them🤔. I'll probably choose Izana cause he seems to be busy with work all the time and I get to live a good life but still get lots of free time of my own😈. (yeah i guess marriage is not my thing…at the moment…) But if it's marrying into a noble family I'd rather run away with Kazuki and the Lions😈. (Power and duties❌ Adventure and Freedom✅)
8.Character that is most like you
Hisame, as MBTI and @sabishi-tomo 's quiz show.
Fun fact: I totally anticipated it when I found out Hisame was ENTP (tho ENTJ works for him too) cause I myself as an INTP can't help but noticed how we both enjoy being snarky and sarcastic just for the fun of it x). And also in tomo's quiz I got Hisame as well. I do especially agree with the "self-centered", "live to be entertained" and "like to tease people" parts. Apart from that apparently I'm better at forming close connections with people than he is lol. But the point is I'd be a great match for Lady Kiki YES🧎‍♀️
9.Character with the best redemption arc
I'll have to say Raji. Never thought he could actually transform from an annoying arrogant prince into an adorable royal heir, thank you Shirayuki.
But let's not forget the Bergatt twins. The confession they made about finding their light was so touching I almost cried T T.
10.Ships or characters who you think deserve more love
IT'S NEVER ENOUGH FOR HISAKIKI. They deserve all the love in the world. I'll only stop saying this when everyone on earth ships them.
And of course Kazuki. You know what I mean and I'll save the ranting for your sake.
11.Favorite “villain” or morally grey character
If Raji still counts as "villain" as he previously was then yes I appreciate him but in a comedic sense.
12.Favorite arc
Bergatt!!!!! THE PLOT AND THE PANELS!!!!! My heart was pounding so fast and I just couldn't help rushing through pages as if I was the one in the story trying to seize every second to save Zen💓💓💓. Bergatt will always be the best arc. End of story.
13.Favorite scene or line
I HAVE SO MANY FAVORITE SCENES HOW COULD I NOT??? But I'll present you with one that hit me different during my first read and that is Hisame's proposal to Kiki (the one where he actually succeeds). I wasn't even shipping them that much but man the scene was like🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯and I just couldn't help but go awwwwwwww for them💗💗
And now favorite line, I bet no one can ever guess it's this one:
Tumblr media
Sorry I only have the Chinese version with me but basically it's Shirayuki saying: "It would be nice if we get to see the new flower this winter^^." To me, this line symbolizes the very feeling AnS gives me: consistent hope and never-ending positivity in every corner of the simplest daily life.
14.Most hated arc
Not exactly hating or disliking them but the science part in the phostyrias (is that right?) arc is a bit difficult to read for me, and I wouldn't mind if the perfume arc were a bit simpler and shorter. Just saying😜
15.Your controversial take
I'm glad you asked cause I finally get to say this out but also a bit afraid cause it's gonna upset some fans. Just to be clear, I don't intend to throw shade on any ship or characters or people who enjoy them. I'm just sharing my pov👀.
So here it comes: I don't see how Mitsu and Kiki make a good romantic couple, and I don't understand how Kiki fell for Mitsu.
I mean at the very beginning of the story (when it was supposed to be a short series) it was apparent that Mitsu and Kiki were going to be a couple and I could tell that. As the story goes on, we see hints that Kiki has romantic interests in Mitsu. And since Kiki confessed her feeling to him it seems to have become canon that Kiki did/does love Mitsu, and I fully accept that. But still, despite all the hints and confessions, I just don't see when/why/how Kiki fell for him. (Not saying Mitsu is not good enough, just examining their relationship development.) As far as I'm concerned, Kiki takes Mitsu as her most trusted partner and cherished friend. She knows she has to marry someday and of course she'd be looking out for the right candidate. And Mitsu would certainly be her best choice in many ways. But that's it. I don't see how Kiki actually developed romantic feelings for Mitsu. Perhaps sensei just didn't elaborate on that, or perhaps I missed something, in that case please lecture me lol^^
16.Something that you had wished had happened
Man I really wish we get to see more of Kazuki. It's illegal to waste that pretty baby face like that. I mean sensei couldn't you get him a job around Shirayuki? Like being an aide to Obi so that they can take shift to look out for Shirayuki's safety when Obi's away to help Zen or something??
And also I'd love to see more of Hisame's days at Sereg as well, like how he usually tries to be a pain in the ass every time the trio visits^^.
17.Your OTP
HisaKiki (because no I cannot separate ObiZenYuki.)
18.Your favorite rare pair
KAZUYUKI IS UNDERESTIMATED.
Love the chemistry between Tariga and Shirayuki too.
19.Your BroTP
Obizen. That night the way they dealt with their triangle on the deck was absolutely mind-blowing. I've never seen anything like that and I just didn't know it could work this way🤯. Obi&Zen definitely share special bonds and have a unique way of interacting with each other that is essential to both of them.
(Yes I take them mostly as broship but I'm open to other interpretations. I mean I don't really mind what type of relationship they have as long as they're together and they're happy. This applys to obiyuki/obizenyuki as well.)
20.Your NOTP
MitsuKiki. I'm truly sorry. (Not at all😜)
21.Favorite trio
HOW CAN IT NOT BE OBIZENYUKI???
22.Favorite fancontent
I LOVE THE ANALYSIS POSTS ON TUMBLR I LOOOOOOOOVE THEM!!!!!! I enjoy reading every 2000-word essay about how someone think this character has been misunderstood or how this plot is so well-designed or how this detail is supposed to mean something or how……I just love it💗💗💗. Thank you to every amazing AnS scholar who's so profoundly enriched my understanding of the original work💗💗💗.
23.Favorite fancontent that you've created Snow On The Beach. It's just so beautiful. (Credit goes to Sorata and Taylor of course.)
24.A random headcanon that you have
Shirayuki is 100% Tariga's type. The girl of his dreams🥰. (He just doesn't know it yet🥰)
25.Why you picked it up
Haha this one's pure personal story. Two years ago I was binge watching shoujo anime/manga during summer vacation and AnS was one of them. But I only watched the anime back then. It was not until half a year later when I decided I needed some lighthearted mental relief that I thought of it again. So I rewatched the anime, and when I searched about it online I accidentally saw these amazing illustrations from the manga and got totally stunned by the style. Before that I was even criticizing how strange the anime art style is🤣, and the manga was a total surprise!
26.How long you’ve been a fan
A year and a half now.
27.Best part of the series
As I've said before I love how this work is full of consistent hope and never-ending positivity. It's the ideal world in my mind.
Also salute to Sorata's art style and amazing designs.🧎‍♀️
28.Things you would change about the series
Nothing, really. I'm happy with the way it is. It's enough a blessing for me🥹.
29.Things you still don’t understand
Like I said in Q15, I don't really understand how Kiki fell for Mitsu.
30.Did you watch the anime first or read the manga first?
Anime first.
31.Which one is better: manga or anime?
OF COURSE MANGA.
32.The best part of the fandom
Everyone's so positive and kind-hearted and nice and cute and witty and fun just like the characters in the work🥺. Love you guys🥺.
33.How will you feel when AnS ends?
I'm gonna be so sad. On the one hand we won't get any more stories about these people that we love so much, and on the other hand I feel like the community will become much less active when the series ends😢. It's like our days will be gone😢.
34.If you could ask Sorata-sensei anything, what would you ask?
Aside from the loads of questions I have about AnS, I'm genuinely interested in what influenced her most as an author/artist. I love the consistent positivity in almost all of her works and really wonder what works or things perhaps have influenced her in this regard. Or does this positivity just innately run in her blood? Lol. But it's not just the attitude and vibes in her work, I'm overall curious about what influenced her most as an artist.

6, 7 - Kristoph, 12, 13, 18
Should I be doing them separately? Oh, well, too late haha
YAYYY thanks for asking about my #specialguy ^_^
6. Show us a bit of a WIP!
Kristoph Gavin never dreamed he'd luck out with an assistant like Apollo Justice.
Justice had come recommended by an old friend, a law professor at UCLA. Without her recommendation, he never would have taken on a mentor to begin with--he didn't have the patience for their sloppy mistakes.
"You'll like him, Gavin," she'd said over the phone. "He's bright, professional and eager."
Little did Kristoph know just how eager Apollo Justice was. The morning the young lawyer strode through his doors, his eyes practically glimmered with excitement. His red vest and pants were perfectly creased, his watch poised for him to make sure he wasn't even a second late, his hair slicked back with just two strands perked up like bunny ears.
"Apollo Justice, sir," he'd introduced himself, shaking Kristoph's hand with a quiver in his voice. Not a nervous quiver--it was reminiscent of a dog straining against his leash to greet his owner.
7. Is there a piece of clothing you think [Kristoph] is particularly fond of/that you imagine them wearing a lot or like to draw them in?
I think a lot about Kristoph and clothing! He's a dainty man, or at least he appears that way on the outside, so I love to think what a "casual" outfit for him would look like.....at MOST he'll dress down to a sweater, collared shirt, and slacks. Still loafers, you will never see that man in tennis shoes.
12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
I was talking with some friends about a crossover AU with my OG special interest since childhood - Yugioh. I imagine the AA characters would be isekai'd away into a world where problems are solved with card games and magic items instead of courts (because in yugioh world, no one gets sued or prosecuted for anything?? Kazuki Takahashi said fuck cops ig).
Maybe there's a new court system and Phoenix and Maya have to defend Yugi for murder? Apollo gets stuck defending Kaibacorp against all the injury lawsuits Kaiba must get from his gaming technology that causes Actual Pain when you take damage? The possibilities are endless.
(Also, interesting crossover lore with two series involving spirit possession/magic items!)
13. What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to some day?
FRADRIAN!! Fradrian my absolute beloved. I haven't gotten around to writing them yet but I will.
18. Type [charater]'s name and tell us what the autocomplete suggests as the next word
I have autocomplete turned off, sorry! No one tells me what to write /j

WIP Snippet Sunday
More stuff from Mob, but from a future chapter either 7 or 8. Finally getting some Jou POV though.
---
"Look, they're not in this life. They're normal," sighed Katsuya without removing the towel from his face.
"You mean they don't know you're..."
"Nah, they know. The amazing part is they don't care. But I don't wanna cause trouble for 'em. They have a white-collar job and everything. Perfectly respectable work."
If you didn't count whatever legal advising was done on Yoshimori's behalf, but hey, the law guaranteed everyone a right to trial and counsel. But Katsuya knew Seto had plenty of other clients. As he told him once, his specialty was actually in corporate governance.
"So why are they with you?" joked Kazuki.
"I'm wondering the same thing, kid," he mumbled under his breath.
Despite Seto's assurance that he wasn't "slumming it," the divide between their education and social class continued to make Katsuya antsy. When they were together, when Seto smiled and laughed for him, Katsuya could put it out of his mind for the time. But when they were apart like now? No matter how he looked at it, he couldn't measure up to Seto's standard.

not to salt openly on main or anything but instead of playing up a grown adult man's ineptitude to the point where he doesn't even know how to search for the nearest children's hospital on google or recognize food in the refrigerator, they could have instead utilized the part where he tries to give miri cold medicine for adults as a visual metaphor for the fact that she has completely different needs from the two of them; it's all fine and well to be miri's video game buddy until the moment where you have to step up to be the adult in the room, which... really should have been the crux of rei's character arc imo?
rei's stunted development has always been more of an emotional issue--sure, he doesn't take care of his body all that well either, but the real impact of his upbringing is that he doesn't know how to relate to others in a more responsible manner, because he's never been put in that position before. his deal is that he "doesn't know what love is", including self-love, and love here also encompasses the capacity to care properly for others. kazuki wasn't only doing the physical housework, but also bearing the brunt of the emotional work that goes into keeping a child on-schedule and out of danger, which rei had to deal with for the first time while alone with a sick miri. instead we get about a grand total of about 2 minutes of screentime on the kind of internal turmoil this caused him ("i can't do anything...") and exactly zero minutes on the effort that he had to expend in kazuki's absence while miri needed him--all we get is the final shot of him asleep that only implies some of the work. he's not even the one who presumably takes her to hospital! what was the point of having kazuki out of the picture on his little grief journey, if not to show us the development of rei in real time?! kazuki doesn't even come home to a clean house!!!
i think my irritation with ep 7 stems mostly from the inability of the writing to address the (usually very gendered) inequality of housework and emotional load distribution within a household in any cogent or meaningful fashion, instead using it as the vehicle to explore kazuki's backstory and cut in a few comical scenes of rei in distress instead of actually taking the issue as seriously as it could have. kazuki didn't just leave the house bc he was sick of daily life, he was grieving and being devalued in his household while a 4 year-old and a 25 year-old manchild roommate were constantly testing his patience. i was really, really looking forward to some kind of significant emotional reckoning on rei's part that we got to see onscreen, one that was more consistent with his character (he was NOT this helpless before, even in ep 1 before he met miri) and that would actually mean a little more for the plot than.... honestly whatever we got in ep 7.
also, just on a personal note, as a former (and sadly ongoing) rei stan, it's not very cute to watch a grown man flounder around his own fucking house not knowing how to call a cab or fry a single egg. it's not sexy. it doesn't serve. bring back the sexy rei suwa right now or i'll storm the fucking studio with a torch.

What do you think are Kazuki and Rei’s greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic?
Hello, Anon!
Thank you for the ask! That's such a great question, especially since the audience is able to see the amount of growth both Rei and Kazuki experience over the main events of Buddy Daddies, and even more when factoring in the glimpses that are shown in flashbacks, as well as the first audio drama.
In all honesty, I think Kazuki's greatest personality strength and weakness is the same, it's his heart. The context is what factors into if it'll be a strength or a weakness within a particular situation. Kazuki's heart is what leads him to care for (or love) others unconditionally. I'd argue, it is Kazuki's heart that causes him to grieve for so long the deaths of Yuzuko and their unborn baby. It is his heart that leads him to see Rei and immediately want to help this man, even though he is still grieving (and may or may not already be aware of Rei's status within the organization). And it is what immediately causes Kazuki to empathize with Miri when she says she wished to see her Papa for Christmas, and perhaps the first plan he improvises to get Miri away from Atsushi is to claim to be her Papa, then bring her back to Rei's apartment rather than leave her there.
Kazuki's ability to open up his heart to others is what makes Rei and Miri feel like they will always have a place to come back home to, where they can be themselves. It is Kazuki's heart that allows him to form such deep connections with the people he is closest with. And this is where his heart can also become his greatest weakness. Loses hurt that much more because of the deep connections Kazuki has formed with that person. It pains him to see the ones he cares about/loves hurting or in the way of danger, and this could cause him to be guided by his feelings rather than his mind (overlooking his logical or rational thoughts) in an attempt to prevent that harm. Thus, consequently putting himself in danger or only planning ahead to a certain extent.
As for Rei, I think his greatest personality strength is his loyalty while his greatest weakness is his compliance (but I think that has a lot to do with his upbringing-learned behavior-rather than a natural part of his personality-innate behavior).
When I say loyalty is Rei's greatest personality strength, I mean it specifically in terms of loyalty to the people he loves, and who return that love. In the beginning of the series, we see Rei being dragged more or less unwillingly by Kazuki (and later Miri) to a lot of different places and into unfamiliar circumstances. Knowing Rei's physical strength and skills, I'd argue Rei could have easily fought against Kazuki, or his desires for Rei to go somewhere with him, and stayed put in their apartment. In other words, if Rei really didn't want to do something or go somewhere, he wouldn't. But because it's Kazuki or Miri, he is willing to go with them likely because he knows how much either of them would appreciate it (and perhaps he wants to remain in their presence). After growing up under Shigeki and being raised as an assassin, but shown no love from his father, I'd argue this is why it takes only the threat of Miri (and Kazuki) being targeted for Rei to completely turn his back, even after promising his father he would return to as the next heir. Despite the number of years he remained "loyal" to Shigeki and the organization, it was because Rei had no other choice. Miri and Kazuki openly showed Rei their love and their trust of him, something that wasn't forced or done without an alternative option. As a result, Rei's loyalty to them is stronger, even if he has only known them for a handful of years.
It is Rei's loyalty that will also make him try his best in whatever activity he undertakes if it means helping those he loves or bringing them happiness. As Rei begins to show his affection more openly in the latter half of the series, the desire to show he is just as committed to Kazuki or Miri (as they are to him) is what leads him to do more things that would otherwise be out of his "comfort zone."
I feel like I need to explain myself some more when I wrote compliance is Rei's greatest weakness. I think Rei's upbringing and treatment as a living weapon is what perpetuated this trait in Rei since he was raised to essentially follow orders. Unless pushed to an extreme, Rei seems pretty willing to let things happen as they happen. Rei lets Kazuki return the kitty he found out on the street, even though we are given clues (from Rei's expressions and Kazuki's dialogue) that Rei is unhappy about this decision. Kazuki technically "couch crashes" in Rei's place, but really does not put up a fight when he brings Miri back (other than the initial not wanting to be called "papa" or pointing out that he can't have a cat but Kazuki can bring home a kid). I'm assuming there are other extenuating circumstances that prevented Rei from outright leaving the organization when he left the mansion, but complacency is still in play when it comes to Rei continuing to work for his father. I would argue, as pointed out above, it is Rei's loyalty to Miri, Kazuki, and their safety that moves him out of this complacency to remain within the organization. He is pushed to an extreme since the ones he loves will be hurt (or rather, killed) if he does not do something, spurring him into action. Because in this situation, if he remained complacent and didn't do anything, he would have lost the people who he loves the most (thus, why I chose complacency as Rei's weakness).
As for what I love about their dynamic, I love how they found a reason to keep living in each other. How despite their differences, they are able to tease each other and understand each other without even needing to use words. It likely comes from working on countless missions together, but one thing I love about Kazuki and Rei's dynamic is the amount of trust they have in each other. In certain situations, especially after Miri comes into their lives, Rei or Kazuki may not fully know the context or how meaningful it is to perform a certain action, but they will know how hard the other is trying (cheering them on or there to offer support).
Kazuki's ability to recognize how hard Rei is trying to contribute around the house and help raise Miri, even if they are not doing the same amount of work, as well as Rei's ability to see through Kazuki's fussing as a way of showing his care, demonstrate the strength of the bond created between them. It is their ability to more or less see through each other's external personas and attitudes, and have an inkling of knowledge about who the real Rei or the real Kazuki is, the vulnerability of having another person see that, even partially, that I love about their dynamic. I love Kazuki and Rei's dynamic because they allow the other to see their truest self and know there will be nothing but respect for who that is.

Thank you again for the ask, Anon! I am so sorry it took me awhile to answer it. Just happened to pile a lot of things onto my plate right as your ask came in. Also, definitely wanted to take my time thinking about each question.
I hope you enjoyed reading my response. I had a lot of thoughts running through my head (some of which were more feelings that I did not know how to put down into words), so I hope my response wasn't too confusing. Might edit this post or make a part 2 if more thoughts come to mind, as I will likely keep thinking about your questions!
Thank you again!
