it’s the forbidden fruit… the oranges are the forbidden fruit… that’s the metaphor of ep 7… Oluwande wants to know about Jim’s past but, by gaining that knowledge, by forcing that reckoning, he inadvertently causes Jim to have to leave the sitcom world of the Revenge (the Garden of Eden) and face the harsh reality of their destiny once again.
#LIKE!!!!!!!!!#what the FUCK is happening with this show#it’s 1/2 Silly Jokes and 1/2 the most BADASS symbolism you’ve ever seen in your life#am i just stupid? did everyone else get this and i’m just catching up now??#either way it FUCKS#and also the way the oranges were Necessary for their survival#it’s a link back to reality#and acknowledging reality is SUPREMELY dangerous to people like Stede and Ed who are also On The Run from their pasts and responsibilities#so they get a silly treasure hunt with a fake map to keep things light#and yet the ‘treasure’ still ends up being an orange anyway#an old petrified one to symbolize the way Jim’s destiny had laid dormant for them#and the way Stede tries to give Jim the orange because ‘it’s your land’ but they specifically say they DON’T WANT IT!!!!!!#they don’t WANT their destiny - it’s a burden to them!#and yet the fruit has been eaten and they no longer have a choice#and sooooomething something Stede bringing the petrified orange aboard the revenge to use as a paperweight#while he and Ed are continuing to try and buck the very reality that orange represents…#that’s a CURSED OBJECT STEDE!!!!!!! get that OUT of your cabin!!!!!!#the foreshadowing is DIRE#‘life is pain’ cutting DIRECTLY to Stede declaring the orange ‘the perfect paperweight’ and then deciding to co-captain with Ed#like shut UPPPPPPPP#i GET IT!!!!!!!#Stede and Ed make each other so happy but Painful Reality will always be Lurking#our flag means death#ofmd#ofmd spoilers
