“American Folk” (2017). I’m not really sure what the point of this movie was. If it was just a story about two strangers meeting and bonding over their love of folk music I think it would be better. Maybe the writer thought that would be too generic and added a bunch of unnecessary detours? 9/11 serves as the backdrop for this story, but the movie never gets as deep as you might assume knowing that information. It’s a watchable, but very bland movie. All of the actors are unknowns and do a decent job, but nothing about this movie is that memorable. When I saw the poster and read the synopsis, I really thought I was going to enjoy this more. It seemed right up my alley, I tend to love cute indie movies about love and music. I think this will just be a movie that I will most likely forget and never revisit or talk about again. It’s not that bad, it’s just not that great either.
