Rachel and Kate friendship!!

Okay so first off, spoilers for life is strange, if you haven’t finished the game or don’t want spoilers then just scroll past this post

So in my headcanon for these two, Rachel survived what happened to her in the dark room. I feel like Rachel would definitely start acting differently after this, but she wouldn’t do anything, because similar to Kate, she didn’t have any proof and she didn’t know what to do. Rachel wouldn’t know what exactly happened, but she would know that something happened to her. I don’t think that Kate and Rachel would become friends until Kate also ended up in the dark room. After Kates video ends up online, I believe that Rachel would try to reach out to her, first to comfort her because Rachel will not people bully this girl, but at some point she starts to connect with Kates story and she realizes that maybe they were in the same situation. Rachel would be by Kate’s side through all of this, even if others did not believe Kate. With the help of Max and Chloe, they would eventually take down Jefferson.

Besides how I think their friendship would start, I think that their friendship would work so well because they are so different. They would balance each other out very well. Kate could guide Rachel into the right direction sometimes and she could be a bit like a moral compass. Rachel could lead Kate out of her comfort zone and help her gain some more confidence. Rachel would also defend Kate with her whole life against those high school bullies. Kate and Rachel being close friends would piss Victoria off so much which I find funny. Honestly I just love the idea of a Victoria/Rachel/Chloe/Max/Kate friendship

always love a good rarepair. i ship it! (i better had, i'm working on a fic for these two at the moment lol)

What made you ship it? my first time reading A Different Way To Be, an excellent ambermarsh fic and the first one ever posted(?), stuck with me for a while afterwards. it utterly captivated me with the portrayal of rachel and kate's relationship. ever since reading it the ship has kinda just been in my mind

What are your favorite things about the ship? on the surface rachel and kate are diametric opposites but in actuality they have a lot of common ground: both are subjects of victoria's ire, face bullying at blackwell (all the slanderous graffiti pertaining to rachel/everything we see of the bullying campaign against kate in canon), are under pressure to conform to the expectations of others (kate facing persecution by her mother and aunt for engaging in 'unchristian' behaviour versus the common interpretation of rachel having people-pleaser tendencies and everything we see of her home life in before the storm), both bear the weight of familial expectations (rachel's dad versus kate's mom), and both go through all the horror of the dark room in canon. despite the fact they have that aforementioned common ground, they are also two very different people and that's some really good shipping material because it raises the question of how that contrast plays into things — would it balance them out, would it drive them apart, would their contrasts bring them together only to be ultimately be their undoing, et cetera. it also naturally begs the question of why these two different people are hanging together, which is potent fuel for AU ideas!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? i don't think this ship is really popular enough for there to be any unpopular opinions on it... the closest thing i can think of is how i think this ship would require them to be either forced together by circumstance or rachel to have undergone some degree of character development already, because i can't see her being around kate otherwise? but as i've said, that's also part of what makes this one interesting to think about.

I've had this Life is Strange plot bunny in my head for a while where most things from the first game are the same except that instead of finding Rachel dead, Max and Chloe find her alive and trapped in the dark room and end up rescuing her. (And they also find a way to make the storm not happen that doesn't involve sacrificing Chloe).

The bulk of the fic would then be Rachel centric and focus on the aftermath. Originally, I had this in my head as an Amberpricefield plot and while that would still be great I've also been thinking about my favorite lis crack ship. Which is...Ambermarsh (aka Rachel/Kate).

Basically...Rachel and Chloe initially attempt to finally act on their feelings for each other and finally be an official couple. But things are kind of strained between them. Chloe is still kind of hurt at finding out Rachel had kept so many things from her and Rachel is still healing from her traumatic experience and begins coming to a few realizations...those realizations being that Chloe and Max are very much in love with each other but are holding back for her sake. She eventually confronts Chloe on this and actually ends up encouraging her to ask Max out. They kind of come to the conclusion that they love each other and their bond will always be unbreakable but that they're maybe better off as best friends.

Anyway, after Rachel and Chloe romantically breakup, Rachel starts spending more time with Kate. They're in group therapy together because they have similiar trauma and they're both preparing to testify against Nathan in court on his involvement with Jefferson's kidnapping and drugging scheme. Despite being so different from each other, they start to become friends. I imagine Rachel getting viciously angry at Victoria after she finds out what she did to Kate. And I imagine Kate finding the courage to come to Rachel's defense when she hears people demonizing her or treating her like an object.

Just...Rachel and Kate helping each other heal and falling in love in the process 🥺
