definitely one of the perks of working with children is the chuckle i get when one of them randomly comes over and silently hugs me

this afternoon i was with a first grade class and we had extra recess time because the weather was nice and it was a friday. we weren’t the only first grade class out there. i was just standing around watching the kids, chatting with another teacher when all of a sudden i feel a little someone around my hips. and a voice saying “hiiiiiii~”

so i instinctively respond “helloooo~” and pat her head, because that’s what ya do. i look down and it’s just a head of brown hair. so i’m like “who are you? i can’t see your face” and i’m thinking it could be any of the kids in the class i’m teaching currently, bc several of them have already done that sorta thing before.

then she lifts her face and like clouds parting to reveal the sunlight, it was one of my kindergarteners from my job last year!!! with a big smile on her face and i’m just like “oh my gosh!!!” i say her name and i’m like “hi how are you!!!” and i bend down to give her a proper hug. totally made my day. absolutely loved that.

working with kids doesn’t pay enough but it is at the same time priceless
