Because of the update day getting postponed, I thought I should give you guys a small exerpt of the next chapter. Sorry for it being so small, anything more than this would spoil big things for you guys.
Lyss strode down the halls, barely having to think about the route she was taking anymore. She could let her body go on autopilot while she delved into the deepest parts of her mind.
Her older sister, Hanalea, had left behind a centuries old legacy that she was supposed to have. It was never meant to belong to Lyss. And then suddenly it was. Hana was gone, and in her place was a void difficult to fill, if not impossible.
And Lyss was the only one who could take up what she left behind. She may not have been able to fill that void, but she was damn well going to try to follow her sister’s example.
Hope you all like the chapter when it comes out!! Thank you for your patience, guys.

Okay okay hear me out (litterally the one person who is in this fandom)
I love Ash with all my heart. He’s a dumb boi who runs away from his problems, is super smart, but also a dumbass (which I’m a sucker for).
I love Jenna with all my heart. She’s a badass who has a dragon and I love her more than I love myself (which is not hard but still).
But I don’t really ship them together (no hate to those who do tho).
THEY WERE SO RUSHED. There was really no development of their relationship nor was there any real interaction between the two of them except for a few times in Flamecaster (I know they will have some in Deathcaster but I’m not there yet). It seemed like one minute they were just meeting and the next they were declaring their love for each other. Not to mention, they didn’t really know each other did they? And I’m not talking about the fact that Jenna didn’t know Ash’s name, no I’m talking about the fact that they didn’t know anything about how they saw life and how they loved and we’re still like “we’re in love”.
It also felt just a little cliche to have the two main characters of the first book fall in love with each other for no particular reason other than that the way it should go.
Compare that to the others (destin and Evan, lyss and Hal etc. who’s relationships we’re also a little bit rushed) Jenna and Ash didn’t have as much depth as destin and Evan who know each other better than anyone not through facts about their past but through their emotions and their ability to be free with each other (which we never really got to see from Jenna and Ash). AND Destin and Evan were and always will be friends - even though the were never really “just friends” they had that bond of friendship through their relationship.
I love them and I think that maybe they could have good potential but with what we were given I don’t really think that they are one of my ships
Also I am only like half a page into Deathcaster so if there is anything that is involved in that that can dispute any of that let me know (the one other person in this fandom)!

King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion? Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner. As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back. When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down. Shadowcaster by Cinda Williams Chima Alyssa ana’Raisa, the reluctant princess heir to the Gray Wolf throne of the Fells, feels more comfortable striking with a sword than maneuvering at court. After a brush with death, Lyss goes on the offensive, meaning to end the war that has raged her whole life. If her gamble doesn’t pay off, she could lose her queendom before she even ascends to the throne. Across enemy lines in Arden, young rising star Captain Halston Matelon is being sent on ever more dangerous assignments. Between the terrifying rumors of witches and wolfish warriors to the north and his cruel king at home, Hal is caught in an impossible game of life and death. Lyss and Hal’s intricately linked fates become inseparable when they fall under the shadow of a new enemy—a force that threatens to extinguish the last rays of hope in the Shattered Realms. The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future. In modern day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic-the Mageus-live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power-and often their lives. Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order-and the Brink-before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future. But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past. Timekeeper by Tara Sim In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time—and a destroyed one can stop it completely. It’s a truth that seventeen-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork, but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors. And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems. Danny’s new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: he is the tower’s clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield’s time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden, and means risking everything he’s fought to achieve. But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target or he’ll not only lose his father, but the boy he loves, forever.

Hey everyone shattered realms infodump post/basics about it to convince ppl to read it!!
Summary/Intro to characters:
The Shattered Realms is a four book fantasy series covering different converging conflicts within the world of the Seven Realms. There are eight main characters who give narration in various chapters across the four books.
When the Shattered Realms starts, two of the nations within the Seven Realms have been at war for 25 years. One of these nations is the Queendom of the Fells, while the other is the Kingdom of Arden. The war started when Queen Raisa of the Fells rejected a marriage proposal from King Gerard of Arden.
Two of the main characters are the children of Queen Raisa and her consort, the High Wizard Han Alister.
Adrian sul’Han, aka Ash, is a wizard healer who’s been secretly training at the wizard school that’s located on neutral ground near Arden. He spends his summers as an assassin in Arden.
Alyssa ana’Raisa, aka Lyss, is the next in line to the Fellsian throne, and serves as an officer in the Fellsian army. She’s skilled at fighting and military strategy, but she has a short temper and feels awkward in political settings.
While wizards are accepted in the Fells, they are persecuted in Arden. The king of Arden has continued fighting his war against the Fells by branding it as a sort of crusade against the wizards in the Fells. In Arden, wizards are called mages, and they are forced to use their powers in service of the Ardenine army. Ardenine mages are controlled using collars, which are manufactured by people native to the Fells.
In order to acquire more collars, Arden’s king trades with a smuggler named Lila Barrowhill, who is one of the main characters. She is a mysterious girl, one of very few women and very few Southern Islanders to work directly with the king of Arden. She was raised by her mothers family of coastal smugglers. The identity of her father, however, is one of her most closely guarded secrets.
In Arden, there are only two mages who go uncollared. General Marin Karn, one of the King’s oldest and closest allies, and his son Lieutenant Destin Karn. Destin is another main character in the series. He is the spymaster for the king of Arden, but has his own secret agenda beyond spying for Arden. It is a well known fact that the Karns do not get along with each other.
In Arden, noblemen called thanes hold most of the land and power. The son of the thane Arschel Matelon is another one of the main characters. His name is Halston Matelon. He is a captain in the Ardenine army, well known for being a commander who values his soldiers’ lives and for rising up the ranks through his own talents. Hal is stationed by General Karn in the city of Delphi, presumably to slow Hal’s rise through the military ranks.
Delphi is a mining town controlled by Arden that was once independent. There is a strong underground rebel group there, who do a lot of destruction of Ardenine property. One member of this rebel group is a girl named Jenna Bandelow, who has certain abilities that help her in her work. She’s immune to fire, and can sometimes sense peoples thoughts, pasts, or futures when she touches them. She was born with a mysterious magical mark on her neck, but she doesn’t know what it means.
In Fellsmarch, there is a busker who shares a similar mark to Jenna. His name is Breon d’Tarvos, and he plays a foreign instrument called a jafasa. When he touches someone, or an object they loved, he is able to play a song from their heart that will enchant them. He also does not know what his mark means.
Across the ocean, in the coastal nation known as Carthis, an empress named Celestine Nazari rules. She is hunting for anyone with a mark like Jenna’s or Breon’s, for unknown reasons. Celestine rules all of Carthis except for one port city called Tarvos.
Most people in the Fells and Arden do not know much about Empress Celestine. The most infamous Carthian in the Seven Realms is a pirate named Evan Strangward. Strangward has magic that gives him control over the wind and seas. He’s known as the scourge of the wetlands, taking out Fellsian and Ardenine ships alike. But Evan has his own agenda beyond piracy that is not known outside of his inner circle…
The Shattered Realms are a high fantasy series, that explores themes of trust against all odds and the consequences of war. There’s political intrigue, battles, romance, and dragons. There are also canonically queer characters, and characters who are people of color. These books have been my favorites for a very long time! People who like Six of Crows or Cinda Willams China’s original series The Seven Realms will definitely enjoy this series.
Content warnings for this series include depictions of child abuse, drug usage, a brief (and not very descriptive) sex scene, and typical fantasy setting violence (for example sword fighting, poisoning, stabbing, etc).

wait guys the shattered realms is totally literally just a ya game of thrones like
destin karn - tyrion
jenna bandelow - daenerys
evan strangward - probably the greyjoy girl idk
lila byrne - arya
alyssa ana’raisa - robb
jarat - joffrey
hal matelon - unsure oopsie.
marin karn - tywin
breon d’tarvos - bram
ash sul’han - john
but yeah it’s like. the north is the north and the “good” side (to some extent) in both books. seven kingdoms in both books. arden is like the lannisters. they’re both the kingdom in the north with wolves as a symbol and weird magic and shit. idk. very similar but the shattered realms is less sex and gore

um hi everyone in the shattered realms is transgender and i want to compile a new list of my gender sexuality hcs because. why not
adrian sul’han/ash - bisexual, aromantic. also i think a trans guy i like to imagine his mother removing him from the line of succession being a very hashtag gender affirming moment
jenna bandelow - ok she’s like kind of part dragon (?) or at least has dragon behaviors and a dragon mindset so i don’t think gender or sexuality fit within human boundaries for her. i think shes genderfluid tho even before she established her bonds w the dragons
alyssa ana’raisa/lyss - bisexual. demigirl. she like canonically struggles with gender and her own presentation and like.. on the one hand she is mostly a gnc woman but also i think she’s got some transgender thoughts. she/they lyss supremacy
halston matelon/hal - absolutely bisexual. cisgender but normal about it. he’s bisexual the way the guy in mulan is bisexual
breon d’tarvos - queer as an overall identity encompassing gender and sexuality. he’s sure not cishet this guy is an artist
oh boy. it’s time for the Big 3 (most interesting headcanons i think about endlessly and change all the time)
lila barrowhill byrne - oh she’s an enigma. i can’t decide which combo of aro/ace/lesbian she is.. currently leaning towards lesbian. however aroace lila also makes me happy. whatever she is she’s not attracted to men!! also idk about her gender im thinking like transfem lila how do we feel about transfem lila i like the idea tbh
destin karn - canonically he’s gay. never shows interest in any woman and tbh only even shows interest in one man. also i think he’s a little bit transgender just really really repressed but im a he/they destin truther
evan strangward - so canon gay that it’s like the first thing u learn about him the first time he narrates. also nonbinary i think! tbh seems like the type who presents however he wants on a whim. gender is whatever pisses u off the most. would wear a lehenga

Boyfriend’s Day, you know what that means
To Ash, Hal, Breon, Destin, Han, Dancer, Evan, Amon, Shadow, Finn (except not really cuz you did try to kill Julianna, but it wasn’t really you I guess) and Celestine’s current favorite Tarek, I appreciate every single one of you, and so do your significant others. You are all great boyfriends, and deserve the world.
Thank you for making our lives both easier and more hectic.
Sincerely, Jenna, Lyss, Sasha, Evan, Raisa, Cat, Destin, Annamaya, Aspen, Julianna, and me. Celestine doesn’t appreciate you enough, Tarek. So I will.
HAPPY BOYFRIEND’S DAY
(I reached the limit when I was tagging lmao why do people have so many different names in these books)

Something i find funny is how all the characters are like “if breon doesnt have any leaf then he wont smoke and he’ll be clean :)))” and then as soon as you give him leaf its like “nOO WHO GAVE HIM LEAF DONT YOU UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOU GIVE HIM LEAF HE’LL IMMEDIATELY START SMOKING IT”
LIKE DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHEN BREON WAS FREE OF LEAF AND HE WAS HAPPY AND STUFF AND THEN HE AND LYSS GOT CAPTURED AND CELESTINE GAVE HIM LEAF AND HE JUST SMOKED IT WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED
WAS HE FORCED OR DID HE JUST GO “OOH HEY LEAF :DD IMMA SMOKE IT”

@scaringthecrow asked:
“If you are also a fan of Harry Potter. What houses do you think the main characters would be in? I'm pretty sure Destin would either be Ravenclaw or Slytherin.”
(Less detailed note at the bottom)
Destin seems like a Slytherin, but I think he could also be a Ravenclaw, like you said. Slytherins are often portrayed as shady masterminds and have had a history of pretty bad wizards, but their house attributes are cunningness, determination, adaptable, realistic, self reliant, and more. I think people, like the ones that don’t exactly know him enough to guess more accurately, would peg him as Slytherin. But those people would probably forget or not know that Destin wanted to be an engineer, and has made some pretty creative and intelligent inventions, such as the wind-seeker he made for Destiny. Some Ravenclaw attributes are analytical, intelligent, witty, creative, wise, observers more than participants, independent, self-entertaining, and fond of learning for the sake of learning. I think he’d fit Ravenclaw more accurately than Slytherin.
Evan could fit Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. He is extremely yet selectively loyal, honest (when he can be), genuine, playful, funny, hardworking, compassionate, passionate, stubborn, and more. Most of these can fit into either house. Though, to be honest, I think he would fit Gryffindor. Gryffindors have a strong moral compass and would not hesitate to try to set something right, which is exactly what Evan tried to do in the Shattered Realms. He owns his mistakes and tries to make up for them. Although obviously he has many Hufflepuff attributes, he fits more of the Gryffindor attributes.
Adrian has a strong pull to Ravenclaw. Like I said previously, Ravenclaw attributes are centered around intelligence and creativity. He would be an ill-suited Slytherin, since one of the main attributes is ambition and more centered around themselves. He wouldn’t fit Hufflepuff, since while he is very loyal, it isn’t exactly his most prominent trait. While he could fit Gryffindor for his bravery, practicality, stubbornness, and small sense of procrastination, Ravenclaw fits him better for his inquisitive, introspective, independent, and logical personality.
Jenna is a strong Slytherin. She is goal-driven, determined, self-reliant, adaptable, able to separate her idea of herself from what she does, and prepared. Though living in the moment tends to be a Gryffindor trait, she best fits the attributes of Slytherin. She treats people with respect, and she is very loyal to a select few. She respects others’ opinions, and she is very big on cost/benefit analysis. She would best suit Slytherin.
Lyss would best fit as Gryffindor. She is brave, hardworking, idealistic, and hates to back down from anything. She doesn’t hesitate to set something straight when she sees that something is wrong. She has a strong moral compass and is extremely loyal to those she cares about. She has a good judge of character and and is witty and smart.
Hal could fit either Hufflepuff or Slytherin. He is determined, loyal, genuine, honest, driven, adaptable, assertive, self-reliant, fair and just, passionate, open minded, and dependable. He thinks before he acts or speaks, and he gives viable arguments and weighs the other’s counter arguments with fairness. He hates to be wrong, and he hates to be beaten, but he learns from it and tries to put his efforts into what he believes is right. I feel that he would be in Slytherin, with some Hufflepuff traits.
Breon easily fits into Hufflepuff. He is very loyal to those he cares about, compassionate, good hearted, and accepting. He tells the truth when it really matters, and though he has the power to get people to do what he wants, he doesn’t like to use it for his own ambition, but to make people happy and to defend when needed. He is clever as well, and spins a complicated web of lies and somehow manages to keep most of it straight, which could point him in the direction of Ravenclaw. Though some people tend to peg Hufflepuffs as unemotional, he is very open about his emotions and his opinions, and shows how much he cares for someone without masking it very much. Hufflepuff is best suited for him.
Sasha is undeniably Gryffindor. She is extremely loyal, trusting, experience-oriented, honest, practical, and passionate. She is also blunt and wary of liars and manipulation. She doesn’t hesitate to protect those she cares about. She has a strong moral compass and though she doesn’t like to make mistakes, she tries to take something out of it to be better in the future.
Lila is Slytherin. She is intelligent, self-reliant, big on cost/benefit analysis, focuses on her goals, prepared, subtle, adaptable, realistic, and able to use her intelligence to as a tool to achieve her goals. Though if she were to follow in her father’s footsteps in a path that would have gotten her power, she chose instead the path that allowed her to work undercover and behind the scenes of great masterminded plans and reworked them so they could benefit herself and her country more. She is loyal to the small number of people she cares about.
Tldr; Destin is Ravenclaw, Evan is Gryffindor, Ash is Ravenclaw, Jenna is Slytherin, Lyss is Gryffindor, Hal is Slytherin, Breon is Hufflepuff, Sasha is Gryffindor, and Lila is Slytherin.
If I missed anyone you wanted to see, or if you disagree with anyone, feel free to let me know and what house you think they would fit!!
