hi anon I have literally no idea how long this has been sitting in my inbox because regrettably the Dashboard Unfucker does not display the inbox um. at all.

Anyways my username has a surprisingly convoluted backstory that has nothing to do with Sawk the Pokemon!

It starts with me being like, 11 or 12 on Neopets dot com ca. 2005-2006. As with most of the internet even back in Ye Olden Days, most people would go by some kind of nickname rather than their actual usernames because this was the era of shit like 'xXx_inuyashaluvr1995_xXx'. Sometimes said nickname would be derived from the username, but not always.

Now my username was basically impossible to make a decent nickname out of so I went elsewhere for inspiration. One of my hyperfixations at the time was dragons in any way shape or form. 'Dragona' crossed my mind, basic as it was... but there was a member of Neopets staff who went by Dragona and I couldn't just steal her nickname, right? Tacky.

HOWEVER, one of Dragona's schticks was hoarding socks much like a dragon would. Given that this was also the peak 'lol rAnDom' humor my tween brain was like "haha socks are random and funny, I can do something with that!" So I considered 'Socky'.

No. Not quite random or quirky enough. What if we bastardized the 'sock' part? I landed on 'sawk' - and then 'Sawkie' (because -ie looked better than -y I guess). So that's what I went by on Neopets.

Fast-forward like a year and I decide to get a deviantArt account. Whoops, the username Sawkie is taken! What else can I use instead??

Ok well let's add something to the end. How about '-inator'? Yeah that's good, 'Sawkinator' it is. (Before anyone assumes so - I had not ever heard of or watched Phineas and Ferb at this point. In fact the show had just barely started when I signed up under the username 'Sawkinator')

Aaand I've been using that username across various platforms ever since. I go by 'Sawk' for short because of the Homestuck/MSPA forums because that's what people shortened my username to there (likely because they erroneously assumed it was derived from the Pokemon, even though I've been using 'sawkinator' since before Sawk was a thing), and I never bothered to correct people and tell them I typically went by 'Sawkie'. Plus I was 18 by then and Sawkie sounded a little juvenile anyways so whatever.

So that's how Sawk the human and Sawk the Pokemon convergently evolved the same name thanks for coming to my TED talk

3/3 times that  I’ve temporarily turned Dark Reader off and forgotten to turn it back on, I’ve realised it once the horrible migraine sets in.

You’re allowed to like beta, but it doesn’t change the fact that neopets dot com is the only website I’ve ever encountered that gives me migraines.

(InB4 Constellation Theme:  Astigmatism+dark/night mode = headaches. I use Dark Reader with brightness turned the fuck down and sepia turned the fuck up. My Monitor is also set to warm, brightness and contrast turned the fuck down & Windows night mode is on. Yes, I can spend the less time on the site. Yes, to all the things.)

I know how defensive this post has turned out, but I’m sick of having to defend my own brain/eyes. You lit still can’t say anything without the “um actually” bullshit. Not including the people who are genuinely trying to help, there’s a clear fucking difference tho.

1. Favorite place to write.my favorite place to write is actually in my parked car! i wrote almost the entirety of both my current original WIPS in my car, in parking garages or parking lots. it’s perfect for me, because i can control the environment (temperature, music) and limit the distractions (no wifi, nobody in the vicinity to interrupt)! 

2. Favorite part of writing.honestly? idk if this is a good answer, but, the part where i get to share it. there’s a lot i love about the writing itself (following the flow of ideas, learning the characters), and there’s a lot i love about the revising (the victory of finally nailing a scene i’ve been dreaming of or finally untangling a plot point that’s been plaguing me), but my favorite part is letting other people read it. i’d still write even if nobody else ever saw the words, but there’s nothing better than finally getting to experience the story with someone else after having it all to yourself in your head for months and months!! (of course, it’s also the scariest part, but! you know!)

4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?yes! every morning, on my way home from taking my brother to school, i eat a granola bar and then sit and my car and write. and once i’ve written all i can, either because i’ve run out of words or because i’ve gotta go do something else, i reward myself with a bagel and/or smoothie from panera. :’)

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.oh man... obviously, the raven cycle. like. gestures to the 90k of fanfic i’ve written for this fandom. but other than that, i don’t know if there’s been specific authors or books as much as genres? there was a time in 8th & 9th grade where i read obsessively, like, i could give you a full-length review of literally Every Book on the YA shelves. that was back in the era of fantasy-romance (vampires, werewolves, magical-realism) and dystopian-romance (defy categorization and overthrow the government but also love triangles), and i think consuming a truly massive amount of that stuff surely left a mark on my writing, omg.

6. Favorite character you ever created.who can choose just one favorite character!! i love them all So Much... they’re my kids.... but for the sake of giving an answer, i’ll pick adrianna, just because she’s gone through such a cool transition. she started as an OC for roleplaying on neopets dot com, and she evolved into the protagonist of my first novel. seven years later, she’s almost unrecognizable, but it’s been so cool to work with her over all this time and see what’s changed and what’s endured. :’)

9. Least favorite trope to write.anything involving sex tbh, i’m horrible at it and avoid it at all costs omg
