Literally thank you, I hate when Shuichi's character is reduced to be an emo stuttering mess when in the trials it shows that he's more than capable to handle himself (like when he told Kokichi to shut it during Gonta's trial); I also think that he forgave Kaede way too quickly but so did all the others, same with Maki during the fifth trial, and idk that's something that was always weird to me about the V3 cast, they throw so much (kinda deserved) shade to Kokichi and just put Kaede on a pedestal (she is an angel but like c'mon) while they completly forgot that Rantaro was the real victim here (even Monokuma or Angie pointed that out at some point) and barely stayed cautious with Maki after she nearly choked Kokichi to death and straight up brushed off that she was about to kill everyone just for a grudge; idk the v3 always felt weird to me, they don't really feel connected like the 77 or 78th class. With Kaito, he's probably my third favorite character in the entire franchise and I always saw him as a really biased person; I didn't like him that much at the beginning of that reason, but I guess I just grew used to it and started thinking that that was a fascinating flaw to give to a character: he's still a good person at heart and genuinely would like to help everyone but he gives preferences to the "weakest" ones, the ones who don't really oppose him so he could be like "Yup, I can fix them" against characters that don't want to be helped (like Ryoma and Kokichi); I get that he makes a lot of stupid decisions and makes a lot of dumb choices, but I think his unknowing hypocrisy makes for a more interesting character and is even a commentary to the hero trope in stories

Regarding ships, I agree that saiouma can be really interesting and even cute when done right (I personaly really dislike their pre-game relationship that the fandom unanimously agreed on at some point for some reason) and I believe in oumota supremacy

Yeah I like Shuichi, I just don't really like how the fandom sometimes interprets him. Like sure, he was shy at the start of the game but even then he wasn't even that bad, just a little insecure. I wouldn't even consider him a full on emo. I think the only reason why he might be seen as one is because Kokichi called his hat an 'emo hat.' I'll admit I used to see him as shy but now I'm like nah, he's a full on savage and I love it when people write him that way lol.

Also YES, I also really don't like how the fandom has shaped pre-game saiouma either. It's rather uncomfortable in my opinion. I don't mind how the fandom has shaped everyone as pre-game characters but,,, yeah I'm not a big fan of pre-game content.

Also also shout out to Angie for literally being one of the few people to bring up Rantaro and didn't make Kaede out to be perfect.

and for literally 12 minutes, it’s just him trying to get you to confess.

it was about to be 13, well until tsumugi walked it, about to think about a plan quick on killing the same exact person who was right there glaring at you.

now I can just end this right now, literally just by saying.

Instead they were met by- “Do any of you commoners kno-” Before he could finish his sentence, Byakuya noticed the condition of the room. His eyes widened, and he completely forgot why he’d come to the room in the first place. Silently, he shifted backwards and shut the door. Making sure no-one was watching, he leaned against the wall, slid down until he was sitting down, and tried to calm himself. ‘Not again.. This isn’t befitting-.. Of-of a togami… pathetic...’

I should’ve known in that moment.

That is so darkly hilarious in hindsight, though I still wonder how she knew to count on Kaede’s plan. What if Shuichi hadn’t found the door? Wait, if the Survivor’s Perk ended up here after Kaede’s trap was triggered, does that mean she darted out and nabbed the Survivor’s Perk afterwards??? But... how did she get past everyone in the first place......... Maybe with Monokuma lying in wait in this room, then? If she had an extra in here and Rantaro had opened the door anyway, it would be easy enough... maybe...???

I feel like Motherkuma’s attitude is a bit different than Monokuma’s? Or am I just imagining things? It seems a lot more relaxed about the mysteries of everything than the other one, and certainly the Monokubs. They literally almost blew the students up for trying to get in here!

It would have been before Shuichi’s time though, yeah? And of course it would have been recorded as a significant event. I was curious so I looked up what our real life ‘most watched’ events in TV history were and they’re mostly positive, tbh - but not all of them. There were some significant funerals. Anything planned, basically.

'Like they usually do?!’ Okay, they are seriously emphasizing the ‘this game is looping’ angle here - and apparently Shuichi should be aware of this fact? Monokuma’s explaining it all, but it sounds like it’s more of a recap than anything!

What do you think of pre game Kaede? and what kind of personality do you think pre-game Rantaro would have? Any head canon's involving the pregame selves?

Pre-game Kaede, much like Tsumiki, is a character that I kind of project onto a little bit, because I’m not a very naturally trusting person either.  I did write some pre-game Kaede in my Amamatsu prompt collection . Honestly, I love her, and I do think there’s a lot of potential for fic writers to take off on that little glimpse we get in her interview vid, especially if she were to gradually learn to trust just before getting tossed into the game, or something post-game where she lives, but everyone reverts back to their old selves (like the Amasaimatsu fic I’ve had in limbo for a while).

I feel like sometimes people water the Kaede we play as in ch. 1 down to just ‘piano waifu’, but honestly she’s my fav V3 girl due to her flawed nature, because deep down inside, her pre-game self is still there. Despite her words about working together, she still doesn’t trust Saihara or Amami with her plan, despite being very comfortable around the both of them (I think her and Amami are very alike in this regard, which I think is interesting to explore).

…I hope that made sense? For about 10? 20? seconds worth of video, I have a lot of feelings about pre-game Kaede. I’ve seen someone question just what would have driven her to wind up so misanthropic and distrustful that she would willingly volunteer for a killing game, but honestly? I don’t think it’s that unheard of a feeling to have? Something clearly happened in her life to drive her to that, which again, would be fun to headcanon in fic.

As for my Main Man Amami, while we don’t get to see an interview video, we do see his survival perk vid, in which he acts almost identical to the Amami we see in ch. 1, which is…really interesting. I have a theory on this- His survival perk vid was recorded after his personality had been already wiped and replaced after being chosen for his first killing game. Team DR kept that personality for his next game, since he was now meant to be a returning character. Previous to his first game… I’m ashamed to admit that I hadn’t thought that far until now! I’ve always just headcanoned him as being mostly similar to how he is in ch.1, tbh. After all, it’s not proven that every character was wildly different, seeing as we only get to see three interview vids, and Tsumugi likely chose the three most shocking ones for effect. I’m thinking as I go here, but I imagine that he was depressed due to what happened with his sister, leading him to sign up for the killing game as a self-inflicted punishment. I also kind of headcanon that he only had the one sister pre-game, and the others were fabricated for his in-game backstory.

Speaking of talents, I feel like everyone did have at least a slight interest in their field, however not everyone was proficient. I like to imagine pre-game Kae as interested in music, but tone-deaf. And like I said with Kaede, I do think that their pre-game personalities are still there lurking underneath.

I love, love pre-game Saihara. Oh my dear sweaty son. I have to admit that I find him more interesting than in-game Saihara lol. He was clearly obsessed with DR, and I’m pretty sure with murder in general. I don’t see him as abusive as in some fics I’ve seen, but I do think that he had…a thing for death I guess. He has folders and folders of nasty DR g/uro on his computer.

With Ouma, I’m kind of torn on seeing him as timid, like in some fics I’ve read, or seeing him as still something of a prankster, with DICE having been real (when described in his motive vid, they didn’t sound too outlandish to have been for real). I guess I like a mix of both? Maybe timid in school, but was able to let lose more while in his DICE getup?

Another character I’ve thought a bit about is Korekiyo. I’m pretty certain that the serial killer story and the thing with his sister were fabrications by Team DR, but I do think that he really did have a sister who died. (kind of why I can’t bring myself to hate Kork. Until some new canon material proves that his in-game backstory wasn’t made up, I just see him as someone that unfortunately got the short end of the stick from Tsumugi’s box of backstories)

...I realise now that you probably only wanted Kaede and Amami but I got going and forgot what the ask was lol
