Your cycle consumes itself. What have you become?
(ˡᵒʳᵉ ᵈᵘᵐᵖ ᵇᵉˡᵒʷ ᶜᵘᵗ)
SO THIS IS MY INV VS SAINT AU!! It started as a shitpost and uh. Spiralled. Out of control. And now it’s genuine lol.
Enot and Saint are basically mortal enemies, and Saint needs to get Enot OUT OF THE CYCLES in order to continue his work, because this damn horny bastard won’t stop hunting him down…for some reason. Isn’t ascension the greatest gift you can bestow upon the creatures suffering in this barren wasteland? At least Saint thinks that. Inv, on the other hand, does not.
Enot stumbles upon Pebbles while passing through the silent construct, trying to find food one day. He takes a liking to this half-dead pink toaster, bringing him scraps of fabric as blankets and lanterns, and the best part…talking to him. Inv, somehow, can talk to iterators. And despite Pebbles’ very limited ability to reply, he does appreciate the company, and slowly the cycles become less agonizing. Pebbles has a friend. However, when Saint finds him, his immediate reaction is to attempt to ascend him—and he is tackled by a very angry slugcat, hissing and spitting at him in defence of its friend.
When Saint attempts to ascend him, he misses, just barely clipping Enot’s tail and glitching him half-out of reality. He then realizes, to his horror, that his karma seems to be draining. Whatever the hell this thing is, it’s dangerous, and Saint retreats to restore his karma (and heal some of the nasty wounds Enot gave him).
Inv turns back to see Pebbles, staring at him in pure fear, before he simply whispers out a “Thank…you…”. And that’s when Inv makes it his mission to save Pebbles (and everyone else) from Saint.
This leads to Inv running around the map, hot on Saint’s heels, trying to get any and all the iterators to figure out a way to get off their damn strings and LIVE again! Most of them are collapsed or semi-collapsed, so it’ll be an uphill battle, but when a glitchy, teleporting slugcat with the ability to speak tells you to do something…you’d be kinda inclined to do it.
Anyways the reason Enot can’t be ascended is because he is happy to give in to every single one of the great taboos. Wrath, Lust, Friendship, Gluttony, and Self Preservation. He revels in them. And if he can help the others experience them, and become happy with living again, they’ll be immune too! Also he is ridiculously OP to the point of him basically just having DevTools active because I think it’s Funny. He can glitch-teleport and drains the karma of beings around him. He also talks super casually and I think it’s funny.
A little bit of their dynamic hehe:
“Hey, pal!”
“I would like you to stop calling me that, please. You may call me the Saint.”
“Ahah. Not happening.”
“You are incredibly disrespectful.”
“Hey man, I’m not the one calling myself a saint but then running around killing shit and acting like it’s a good thing.”
“You use such vulgar words. I ascend beings, freeing them from the torment of these endless cycles. It is my purpose.”
“Even the ones who don’t want to go? Bro, you don’t even ask. The last robot you almost merked was screaming “no wait” at you, and you still think you’re in the right here? You’re not some kind of righteous saint, that’s called being a fuckin’ serial killer.”
“You do not understand what you are talking about!”
“Whoa, buddy! Are you gettin’ mad? Ain’t that…a lil taboo? PFFT look at your face!”
“I am not tolerating this any longer. Goodbye.”
That’s all I can think of rn! Send asks if you like!

Anthro Survivor's Art Fight Profile is out now with a detailed biography. :)
I plan to push out one slugcat bio per day as I work on them.
If you don't have an Art Fight account but wish to see their description...
Name: Survivor (Survy, Surv) Pronouns: Any/All Likes: Relaxed and comfortable spaces, Hats, Video Games, Adventuring, Hanging out with friends Dislikes: Being put in stressful situations, Feeling cornered, Cold temperatures, Failing, Being treated as small
History: They grew up in the Outer Expanse along with their sibling Monk- being raised by their parents who taught them the basics of survivability. Through their guidance and protective efforts, their life was overall rather peaceful until one fateful night where the harsh rain poured during one of their familial expeditions. Survivor was separated from their family, falling from a slippery bridge and being swept away from a flash flood. They were lost, scared, wounded and was left alone to fend for themself in the great unknown. Survivor's lost days were times of their hardship and lots of learning in the many instances where he fell and nearly died. Their efforts of traversing back to the Outer Expanse lead them to discover that their family was long gone, but they were found by Hunter who guided them to a newfound trust and friendship along with Artificer and Gourmand. They went on a search to find Survivor's family, all the while the two reddish slugcats teach Survivor their forms of combat. Eventually Survivor finds Monk, who was looking for them the whole time and was also accompanied by other slugcats. Altogether, they created a friend group, who closely looked after each other as if they were their own colony.
Personality: Despite their traumatic history, Survivor overall is relaxed (or at least always seems to be when things go as planned). Pretty much the "everything goes" type of person, though they care deeply about their friends and Monk. They can adapt to a lot of situations and is able to do a variety of things amateurly, however they've mastered none of these talents. They would often pitch in fun activities that range from a lot of effort to little effort at all- anything that has a sort of safety measurement. Survivor likes having mindless conversations and having little worry for themselves, even if for a moment. At the edge, they get alert and emotionally-charged. They are very protective and naiive about their own strength and they can go out of their way to fight something who hurt their loved ones even if that something can easily punch them back. They can get desperate and senseless if their plans go wrong, but no matter what- Survivor always makes sure they can make out of things alive even if it winds up hurting themself in the process. ... As long as you don't pit them in a stressful situation, Survivor would remain chill.
Biology: Survivor's talents are spread, though they are a master of none. They know how to fight, program, cook, etc... But they're not quite the best of any of them. They're very average.
Appearance: Survivor is a pure white slugcat with an average bodytype but has visible scars throughout their body. There is one notably on their head, stitched up. They often wear a hat to cover it. They have scars on the tip of their ears and across their face beneath their eyes, and scars on their tail as well. Survivor has dark blue gray eyes with white pupils. They have two round medium-sized ears and a medium-sized snout. They enjoy wearing chill outfits where there is always a hat (usually a beanie). They are a young adult.
Relationships: Nightcat - Likes/Best Friends - Survivor is best friends with Nightcat ever since they actually spoke to each other for the first time in the colony. The two are so close that they developed a soft crush on one another, unsure if they can go through with it due to their shyness. Monk - Family - Survivor is quite protective of Monk, who is their only remaining family member in contact with. Though they find their own shenanigans concerning, they aren't controlling of it. Hunter - Friends - They see them as a parental figure of sorts- makes sense as they are their mentor, but overall they are good friends. Artificer - Friends - They also look up to them as a parental figure and a mentor. Gourmand - Friends - Acquainted at first in their early days of being in the colony and later became friends after spending a good amount of time with them. Rivulet - Friends - A "gamer pal" of sorts, interested in their pile of the shenanigans but is overall reserved about it. Spearmaster - Friends - A good friend and a good listener to their woes. Saint - Neutral - They are a bit wary of Saint, but trusts them with Monk as they seem to be fine with them. Enot - Neutral - Quite annoyed by them, but doesn't hate them.

I've had this floating around my head for ages so ig this is the best place to put it
Hunters rot is fully intentional to me, NSH created hunter for the sole purpose of helping moon, so they were given the rot for a very similar reason to why SRS took away spearmasters mouth, it puts hunter on a time limit meaning succumbing to any animalistic desires is detrimental to their task and ensures they deliver the slag reset key as quickly as possible.
This doesn't mean I'm calling NSH a bad guy or evil I just think they have a very different way of thinking, I've said it before but iterators are extremely alien to us (like they're biomechanical supercomputers that are so large entire cities are built on them and are created with tech that we cant even understand how do you even begin to comprehend that???) so why should they see things in the same way we do? I don't think iterators would really understand the concept of pets, they use creatures as test subjects and tools for their work, hunter was made as a tool to help moon, I don't see why NSH would really care about them, his group senior and friend just collapsed and is in the process of dying, slugcats are very genetically malleable so he quickly cooks up hunter to deliver the slag keys, who cares if it dies anyway? as long as moon gets the help she needs, hell SRS created SM as their dedicated messenger and used them multiple times without even giving them a name before they got attached while we play as them.
Some other things, the timing seems very convenient, by the time we play as hunter they only have 20 cycles left and for the average player this is just enough time to get to moon. When pebbles accidentally creates the rot its catastrophic, hunters rot seems very calculated to me, I feel like if NSH made a mistake and created the rot in hunter accidentally they would kinda just die on the spot. A popular theory for the void endings (and also my favourite) is that you see what you want most before ascending (or getting echoed), surv sees their family, monk sees surv(probably), arti sees their kids, but hunter is being embraced by NSH, possibly meaning they were neglected by NSH and only ever wanted to be loved and freed from their situation ( :((( )
wow this is a lot longer than I thought it was gonna be, also none of this means I think HCs where NSH cares for hunter and made an honest mistake are bad or wrong this is just my interpretation!!! I love all HCs! they're all cool and interesting!

the slugs are done cooking!
anyway here's yellow, blue, and red!
Blue
Blue has the ability to store more than one thing, including extra food, in cheek pouches!
They also can make baits for other creatures if given the correct resources. This can be great for them to lay out to attract an eggbug or something, but isn't a sure-fire way of getting food before the cycle ends. Admittedly, Beckon's cycles are much longer than Pebbles', so they get a solid amount of time outside before the rain.
Can and will eat anything! This includes things that are not digestible by slugcats. Probably has eaten a spore puff and immediately thrown up. Also sometimes will die spontaneously and be the one to discover that something is poisonous. If they were playable you could probably eat certain things that'd take your pips instead lol
instead of netherwart, they eat bubbleweed! similarly exotic and not found in Beckon's surroundings, and probably grows more around Abberant Creation/Crafter of Connection. actually did i mention that alexcrafter/CoC and AC are the same person. i don't think i did. that's unrelated tho
instead of getting scars from lava, it's instead from toxic waste like you might find in the Garbage Wastes. They can walk okay still, miraculously, but the skin has become extremely sensitive and any injuries in that area would hurt a LOTTTTT. They learn this after trying to pluck a paincone and getting swarmed.
Also related to the scarring, has a very high scav reputation due to saving a baby scav.
Yellow (there's no yellow text so it's orange. oops)
Expert with explosives and can craft grenades on the go. Grenades are made with a cherry bomb and a rock. They can also make a spear explode on impact-- different from an explosive spear since it's made with a grenade rather than the red cloth(?)
VERY VERY bright. had a habit of eating beckon's neurons when he wasn't looking and by the time they learned not to they were already glowing like a flashlight
probably started wailing upon learning they were eating beckon's brain on accident also
can basically craft anything like gourmand. has made VERY dangerous things before by complete accident. such as previously mentioned nuke.
Has probably broken a karma gate by trying to figure out how it works. probably the karma gate to the void if beckons even has one. no ascension for the kids. not that i think they'd ever WANT to
Has some degree of electric resistance. you'd be surprised at the centipedes they can survive
can and will fix things for beckons with only the motivator of love and sheer willpower
Red (imo the most interesting)
can and will befriend anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for comedic value these creatures are included in the pool of things red can and will befriend. i mean maybe not the centipede but also it'd be very very funny
is differently colored because their niche is in mimicry! their tail has eye spots to scare off vultures and if they slap their tail it may look like it's about to bite! it's used to scare off predators, which red deals with more often than you'd probably guess.
looks like something else on first glance but don't worry about that
high lizard reputation! just more likely to survive beasts in general actually
i was initially going to say the monster school is an interspecies lizard pack but then i thought of what monster school would be like in rain world and that's the funniest fucking thing ever so i'll leave it up to y'all. dropwigs learning how to dropwig from a giant fucking miros? maybe a guardian if you're feeling extra silly? or train lizard who has taken in a ton of stray lizards. who knows...
gets gifted a yellow bandana by Abberant Creation or scavs maybe
surprisingly low scavenger reputation. they're not kill-on-sight but definitely 'oh shit troublemaker incoming. watch out' (they get better reputation after blue helped the scavs out tho)
their pig friend (reuben) is a yeek btw. if you don't know what a yeek they're the best critters in rain world
anyway i thought of some interesting things that might be able to happen but i want them to be surprises in case i end up writing slugpup shenanigans :3 if you want to write a fic you can ask me though
i'm working on green but they suffer a chronic lack of significant abilities i can work off of :pensive:

creamverse iterator oc lore masterpost
(LAST UPDATED: FUCK KNOWS)
hi! so if you are a cream fan and a fan of my iterator ocs specifically, you might've noticed that i have been building a storyline around them. most of it happens on the @dj-wayback askblog, but sometimes it gets drowned out by other silly misc asks, and is simply just hard to find if you haven't been keeping up since the beginning so i have decided to try and write a (long) summary of what exactly is happening, what characters are important and what their backstories consist of 👍 make sure to check out the oc tags linked if you want to know more!! i will only be including lore-relevant and important comics/animatics, but there are also other drawings that provide context and serve the story (along with just misc art of my ocs)!!
THE MAIN CHARACTERS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE BACKSTORIES:
No Way Back (he/him) (ref + more info here) is an Iterator who was created specifically to try as little as possible and to put no effort at all into solving the Great Problem. The Ancients thought that by being effortless NWB would actually end up solving it in the end somehow, but that's not what happened, and so his creators turned out to be quite disappointed in him, which resulted in him being blamed, neglected, and more. However, there was one Ancient, who, after finding out that NWB was a dissapointment (just like them), decided to befriend him. The both of them ended up being best friends, almost family, spending almost all of their time together and teaching each other new things about life. In the end, though, despite promising to never ascend and to always be there, Wade ended up leaving NWB along with the rest of the Ancients. Ever since then NWB has been pretty much alone, just making music and trying to still find meaning in life, all the while repressing his emotions regarding the Ancients (including Wade, too). Needless Separation (they/he) is an Iterator who was created specifically to work as hard as possible and to put all their effort into solving all problems, not just the Great one. In the beginning, they were handling it just fine, even finding the time to indulge in art and many more things that they found joy in. However, after NWB's failure to provide any results, all of his workload got transferred to them, all because their creator was too prideful to let any other Iterators handle it. NS was obviously struggling to keep up with it all, which is when Waves decided to take matters into his own hands and make his creation more 'productive'. Waves ended up purging NS' memories, even those of skills they have taught themself, until all NS could think about was work. Waves ended up ascending before NS could truly fulfill any of his expectations. Ever since then they have been overworking themself to death, unable to come to terms with their trauma, instead blaming NWB for most of it. Wade (any pronouns) (ref here) was an Ancient who was never like the rest, who came from a traditional family consisting of his parents — Waves and Breeze — but hated everything about tradition. He was just a chill guy who wanted to get away from everything and to live the life he always dreamed of: by the sea, with his best friend, doing whatever they wanted. It has not yet been revealed why or how Wade ended up ascending and leaving NWB. MISCELLANOUS STUFF:
NWB has a pet lizard, Slinky, and NS has a pet lizard-slugcat hybrid, 33. You can see more of those little guys on the askblog! Both Iterators are also part of an entire local group, who you can read about here — the characters from it will show up in the story and be important (specifically WT, CD and FTA, but others will also play a role). THE CURRENT STORYLINE: NWB opens his broadcasts and begins receiving anonymous messages. That's cool. However, after a bit, he starts getting messages about the Ancients, specifically about how they mistreated him. Which is not something he wants to think about! Ever! But everyone just keeps bringing them up, and NWB ends up having a breakdown over it, all his repressed emotions coming to the surface and making themselves known.
After he is forced to finally start unpacking his issues, he stops messaging NS — who, by the way, he's kind of enemies with! They're the entire opposite of everything he stands for, and he just thinks they suck, and they say they hate him anyway, so he usually only interacts with them to troll them or something (even though they both did share a few good moments together sometimes).
But anyways — he stops messaging NS, who, by this time, has gotten used to talking to NWB (and slightly started caring about him because of that, and started getting slightly worried because of the radio silence, but they'd never ever admit it). After fighting with themself over it, NS, with little warning, decides to contact NWB to see how he's doing, which results in, well...
So, now NWB has to deal with both the Ancients' and NS' bullshit (as well as some not-so-pleasant memories), and he crumbles under the pressure just a little bit. He decides to take a break from receiving messages (he goes to host the Iterator OC Swag Awards specifically, which you would think would be a non-canon event, but, err...) and instead lets NS take the wheel.
Long story short: they do not have a good time. Despite being painfully aware of the fact that they mesed up, they try their hardest to avoid admitting it. In the end, after a panic attack regarding their past leaves them vulnerable, their conscience sneaks up on them and forces them to face everything they've been trying to ignore. NS doesn't take it too well and also stops responding to messages, even though they do still read them.
They decide to go to Weaving Tales, their mentor and close friend, for help, who tells them to own up to their mistakes and apologize. So that's what NS does. Or, at least, tries to do — it doesn’t go like they expected at all, but maybe that’s for the better? The both of them make up, in the end, a new start to their relationship. And—even though they do come across some bumps in the road—it seems to be the start of something good.
...aaaaaaand that's where the story is currently at! congrats! !!! you now know what's going on in the cream iterator oc universe!!!!! i'll try to update this post as more stuff gets revealed so, er, check this out if you ever feel lost about what's happening? i hope i've explained everything well. like i said at the top of the post, i tried to include everything important, but there's still some stuff that is worth seeing!! so go look boy (plural)

hi
you've mentioned that sparrows would have reincarnated as a slugcat?
would you mind elaborating on that?
also would they have met caper again after becoming all scuggy?
heehee
hoohoo hee :)c of course i'll elaborate! it is Her ✨ Fish's little best animal friend
Tumblr media
wonderfully enough, Sparrows and the Tinkerer were developed completely removed from each other in my head, so Tinkerer still feels like a rather separate character from Sparrows even though they somehow wound up havin a lot of similiarities. exactly how the reincarnation stuff should feel like
the Tinkerer is Sparrows! and no character in-universe will ever find out. it isn't important. nobody but Tinkerer is affected by this, and Tinktink doesn't really have the means to speak about it. but for us behind the screens that know about this it will make Tinktink's interactions with the world just a lil bit more juicy
you've sent this at a good time, too! the day ur question came in i was actually pondering how to somehow make use of this reincarnation fact and not just let it float about as a lil bonus for the people that would know about this lil tiny ultimately unimportant connection
so, the idea: as we (probably) all know, Euros is going to end up developing the Rot. this is distressing for a large amount of reasons, but the main point rn is that Euros is also a secret archive of folklore of the lower circles in the Eo group, plus maybe even a little bit over the range's borders to the east (after all, there's two more groups right next door to him n he's a phone operator chief). Euros is going to die a slow painful death and he won't be able to care for or save his collection of knowledge, which somehow manages to hurt him more than the reality of his impending doom
maybe not so surprising, considering that in his archive are the stories, the history, the spirit of his late lover's home- a place he clung to for as long as he could, the one he spent the most time in with his overseers, the one that held people he constantly wished could be his citizens instead of the vile and fake *things* soiling the streets of Ales
so one day after the Fish has properly reconnected to the Eo group, is caught up on current events and trying his *damnest* to revive Mission Self-preservation even though it is guaranteed to be useless, Euros mentions the nightmare that he's living through
"I'm a dead man walking, carrying precious treasures of people that were never heard crying out. I've held them close and safely within myself for over two thousand years. And now, when I'm fated to rot through and splatter on the ground, I fear all this time will be for nought. That I will kill what I've been protecting for so long."
"Even if nobody ever reads these- learns of them, hears them out from above their graves- I can't bear the thought of losing them."
and well Fish DOES have a lot of beef with Euros, but at this point this bitterness is starting to give away to desperation and horror of the terrible torment waiting for them in the future. he might be stubbornly still trying with the Mission, but he would go against what makes him himself if he didn't acknowledge that they are all damned for good no matter what he tries. so he gives in to the pity and hails Tinkerer to his chamber
he explains to her what he needs her to do and tells Euros about the plan. Tinktink has to travel all of this distance
Tumblr media
to get to Euros (basically walk through the whole Europe), but dammit, she helped one Iterator that became her closest friend, she will help another one (a different Gen 2 that she loved and dedicated her whole life to in a different life)
Fish sends her on her way with a hug and a plead to keep herself safe
it takes her over a month to get there even with the help of vehicles like the barely working trains and a remshackle sky-sail that Fish guided her through fixing in their free time together. when she gets on top of Euros' structure, the dejavus start to hit. she visits the Mechanics' home, her feet carrying her to the bedroom as if it was just another end of the workshift. she looks in the cupboards she- opened millions of times- never even touched. she walks outside and then down the path to the entrance into the Iterator she's- taken countless times- never set a foot on
she saw these halls so many times she can pin point where every screw is- she's never been here, she can't understand these giant beings, they are too complex for her animal brain. that specific rhythm of beeps and pumps and water rushing through metal veins has haunted- comforted- her in many of her dreams. the Tinkerer makes it to the chamber almost like on an auto-pilot
when she enters the chamber, the slugcat finds itself disappointed, scared, confused- this isn't what this place is supposed to look like (but how does she know what it is supposed to look like-?), this isn't how she left it (this is the first time she stands here, what are these thoughts). it's supposed to be brighter. warmer. why is the puppet's plating and skin damaged by time, where is it its vibrancy, why are its eyes so tired? there are panels missing from the walls ("it's got to be the results of that Fever i once made a proj- i can fix thi-! what?"), glowing artificial bronze robins fly about or sleeping on his shoulders, tiny Rot cysts pulsate from the cracks in the umbilical arm. where has the firebird in that halo gone off to?
Euros greets her joyfully ("oh what are you trying to play at, you goof. i've known you for so long, i can tell when something's wrong. what's hurting? why are you tired? i'll get you back into shape, doncha worry love.")
"Ah, you made it! Welcome to my chamber, adroit little thing."
"Please. Your journey was a long one. I hold no doubt a very dangerous one, too. I won't march you into the job immediately. Rest up."
Tinkerer thinks he's strange. but her legs are indeed hurting, the bag strapped to her is heavy. she curls up in the corner of the room and tries to get some shut eye. she almost falls asleep when Euros starts mumbling under his breath, shooting nervous glances towards the birds. five fingered hands tremble so badly the joints rattle like a child's toy. he's scary, when his shoulders hunch up like that and those tired eyes turn frantic. but it hurts so much to see him like that for some reason, more so than it is scary. so against the better judgement of a survivor, she softly coos at him
the puppet's head snaps to her, gaze cold. the mumbles increase in volume, allowing her to understand
"...I'll tell you what. I have another mission for you, little messenger. But it has to stay a secret between the two of us. Nobody would approve, especially not the one you belong to now."
something whispers that the puppet closing in is supposed to be a comfort. the larger part of the Tinkerer instead finds itself wishing to run away
"Are you aware of the Memory Crypts that lie beneath all of us City Bearers?"
cautious nod, back pressed against the wall
"Good."

Not really an ask more of a message but I reeeealy love your rw AU, particularly chasing wind, NSH and moon, moon seems so vibrant, so alive in the world, as if she was learning everything for the first time each thing sparking joy in her, I know chasing wind doesn't get a lot of content in the base game but I LOVE what you've done with his characterization, he's a little bit older but he makes it work, he's kind but he doesn't really like socialization. he takes everything people say seriously at first but can take a joke. he loves his projects and the feeling of looking at a creation knowing it comes from his vision made corporeal. And your personality of no serious arassment is exactly what I think he represents, he loves his friends and he loves making fun of them and doesn't let anyone sit up on a shelf all alone. I also really like the idea of travel puppets since they make sense in game and allow you to do so much with the iterators when they're no longer confined to a 20 foot room. Sorry if this sounds bad it was written at 2 In the morning on my phone.
Gdbdhdhh????? Aaaa thank you thank you!!! I know im not the best at the game lore or writing but i really try. I say this alot but im super biased towards happy endings and i mean that already went against rw lore, so i really try to develop the iterators and the world and the story so it makes sense and has more to it than just oop theyre happy! Thats the story.
YEAH MOON IS HAPPY NOW! This whole time she had to be professional, the senior that has everything under control, responsible for people who sees her as a tool. Now shes free of her chamber! Shes almost indestructable, she can just... go! She doesnt have to pretend to like her citizens, doesnt have a structure to constantly worry about, no more working on the Great Problem shes just... free! She loves slugcats so now she can just go travel with them! She can go and visit and physically hug her sibling and friends! She can travel the world and live out the rest of her existance NOT stuck in a room constantly getting drowned. Like heck yeah girl is gonna be more vibrant!
Man i dont even draw wind alot, i know i probably should, heck UI has a dedicated comic for her backstory so wind should get one too. They overwork and worry about things alot yeah but theres an end goal they want to achieve! They have things they want done and i totally agree they WOULD be super proud to be able to make their ideas real. Theyre not super social but that doesnt mean they hate their fellow iterators, they listen and they want whats best for the group!
Sigs personality is kinda determined already and the fandom collectively agree hes a lil gremlin man. We love the gremlin man. Now with the ancients gone and new found freedom he has more time to do what he wants and what makes him happy!
Off the string aus arent that rare especially in ths fandom where the canon ending is sad robots get stuck in room forever .-. But yeah atleast with it our fave robots get to do more with their life
Final words. You probably should sleep bestie

I drew out my iterator ocs from this post
Tumblr media
Extra info below cut
Clipped Wings:
- the rains in their region are far worse than the others due to how much processing power they use
- They scratched off their own head symbol (it used to be an upside down triangle)
- they resent the ancients a LOT for abandoning them, and they despise Wishes to Understand
- They even neglect their own puppet alongside their city
- they’re almost out of water. Time is running out.
Stack of Tomes:
- knows No Significant Harassment as well as Sliver of Straw
- she’s considered an outsider in her own local group lately
- she tries her best to guide the younger iterators when she isn’t busy worrying about Sliver
- the best genetic engineer of the bunch. Gazes Upon Countless Stars goes to her for help a lot
- the closest thing Wishes to Understand has to a parent
- GAY GAY HOMOSEXUAL GAY
Gazes Upon Countless Stars:
- he’s trying to create a purposed organism to launch into space
- before the ancients fucked off, they were starting a space program in his city
- GUCS (goofy ass initials) is by far the easiest to talk to out of everyone
- his chamber is decorated with star charts
- he had an ancient friend! Her name was Distant Days of Snow, Seven Golden Wires (Snow for short).
- Snow wanted to be the first ancient to reach the stars, but she never made it
- she always supported GUCS’s idea that the Solution™️ is in outer space
- so he wants to fulfill both of their dreams
Wishes to Understand:
- they actually woke up after the ancients were gone
- something went wrong in their activation, so they were assumed to be “stillborn” for lack of a better word
- SOT was the first to discover it was actually alive
- It was never properly given a name, so they chose WTU on their own
- Wishes has a good relationship with the beings inhabiting their city and structure
- their region is also the least rainy
- as a result, there are many thriving slugcat colonies and scavenger tribes living there
- Wishes regularly trades with the scavengers, using them as eyes and ears outside of their overseers.
- scavs bring them data pearls and any other records they can find, then they’re allowed to bring the pearls back to their tribe with some extras that Wishes doesn’t have use for
- scavs also keep predators and other pests from infesting their memory arrays
- it gave their scavengers the gift of communication with iterators, and it’s learning the scav language as well
- Scavs are well on their way to become the next major civilization, in my opinion, but WTU’s accelerating the process by a lot
- admires and looks up to the other iterators

idk if this is anything, but my friend and i were talking about how perhaps the reason Suns’ cat is an absolutely cracked murder machine and Sig’s ended up being sick and weak was because by that point, Hunter was the healthiest one he managed to make. In the pearl he sends Moon he mentions ‘equipment eroding etc etc’ so perhaps by the time Hunter is engineered their systems aren’t working super great anymore? Ignore me if this is dumb or am just forgetting a super obvious part of the lore 😭
Also because that’s a super sad headcanon have a happier(ish) one, based on completely nothing I just thought it was cute: Hunter’s full name is ‘Hunting the Stars, Moon’s Saviour’, Sig gave it to her right as she was about to leave. He tried his best not to get attached but since ancient society seems to have placed so much emphasis on names and titles, he wanted to at least give her the dignity of a name :’)
i never really thought about the exact reason why hunter is like that, could be because it was the best nsh managed or that he didn't care to make a super healthy messenger. there was the slugcat before hunter which nsh used to send "something unsavory" to another iterator (i don't see many people turning this slugcat into an oc, unlike some of the others like arti's pups and surv's/monk's parents. maybe oc makers will get in on that)
before downpour some friends and i had a headcanon that hunter was partially mechanical and the reason for limited cycles and the spasms at 0 was because of aging mechanical parts or running out of like. oil or something. and honestly it might be something i keep drawing because rot hunter is a little icky to me (this is no shame to any artist that draws rot hunter)
(art from june 2022)

"i could gush about my sig headcanons all day but auuughvjgghh". You know what, do it. I dare you. After that sleepy iterators post I'm itching for more headcanons to ponder.
SORRY THIS IS RLLY LATE, IVE BEEN WORKING A LOT
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME HAVE AN EXCUSE TO HAVE A CATEGORY 10 AUTISM MOMENT ON THE DASH. this is legit about to be a better essay than anything ive ever turned in for university so strap in, obv everything is gonna be under the cut bc this is prolly gonna be long as fuck
Okay! My main headcanons for Sig are:
He uses he/she/it pronouns, but mainly he/she!
He's a bioengineering dork.
She's a specialized medical facility!
She doesn't really care much about the great problem, and thus has a lot of hobbies. He knitted her own scarf!
She has a lot of friends, even outside of the local group. He's incredibly close with Chasing Wind.
He's a mid-gen iterator, (Ages being: LTTM, SRS, SOS, CW, NSH, UI, FP), so his emotional AI is a lot more advanced than Suns' (there's quite a gap between the two, Suns is closer to Moon in terms of age).
She considers Hunter to be her daughter, Hunter calls him her dadmom and Moon her mom.
He tends to bury these emotions down for the sake of others, which leads to...bad situations.
She's terrified of being alone :)
Sig just gives me gender fucky-wucky vibes. Her pronouns are the/bit and he's committed to it. There's not really a basis for this in canon but it just fits his personality of being pretty laid back and goofy when not in um. emotional distress. Also the accessorizing to his puppet (ie the scarf) makes me think he likes to experiment with her appearance and presentation. To add on to this in the streamer au she goes by any pronouns and is pretty androgynous, so none of his followers can tell his AGAB, and its funny to him to watch the chat argue about it. (He's AFAB, tbh I can't see her as anything else). No one can guess his sexuality either, the only "confirmed" thing seems to be polyamourous, but other than that it's "whatever makes it gay", or "whatever pisses you off most".
Sig obviously has a knack for bioengineering, as he was the one who started investigating the idea of using purposed messengers to stay in contact with others once the comms degraded, not to mention the creation of the slag reset keys. Yes this is my incoming rant of "Sig is not bad at making slugcats", since sometimes people tend to act like "Sig didn't follow Suns' instructions" or something like that, and that's why Hunter is sick. There are MULTIPLE points in their conversations where it's outright stated that Sig was the one who did it first:
Sig was the one who showed Suns the process:
SRS: I purposed a messenger, and sent the information by land via a data pearl. NSH: How original of you. SRS: I learned from the best.
Sig clearly has experiences with messengers, and Spearmaster happens before Sig begins working on Hunter:
NSH: I feel like I need to be simplifying my speech patterns. Is that something you do when conversing with your messenger?
SUNS SAYS "ANOTHER" MESSENGER, AND THEN LATER SIG SAYS "ANOTHER MESSENGER" AS WELL. SIG HAS MADE MESSENGERS BEFORE:
SRS: Do you suppose you'll ever raise another messenger?
NSH: I'm tempted to start work on raising another messenger as a last ditch effort, but to be honest I don't think there is any point.
And then, in her reply, she says, "*I* started investigating the method".
NSH: If the need arises, I certainly would. After all, I started investigating the method out of the inevitability of our situation.
And just to nail it down that Sig was the one who purposed them first, the gossip between Wandering Omen and Pleading Intellect:
PI: You haven't heard about what No Significant Harassment did? WO: All I heard was the complaining. Didn't he send an iterator something distasteful? PI: Well, yes, but more importantly, he trained a purposed organism to deliver it!
WO: How do you even get a dull creature such as that to follow orders? I may consider asking him to teach me his ways.
So yes, Sig was the one to purpose the messengers first. She had already made at least one in the past, to send the "distasteful message" to someone. I'd honestly say he probably made more between that/before, to test the efficacy and also just to mess around with the process.
This leads into my next headcanon: Sig was a specialized medical facility! Five Pebbles mentions to Hunter that "I was not a medical facility even when the equipment was functioning," so I believe that there were some more specialized iterators built. Sig's knowledge of bioengineering could be an indication of this specialization, not to mention it fits with him not really caring about the great problem to the same degree as everyone else. Purely headcanon after this point, but when Sig was first built, Moon was very nervous about getting a new model of "specialized" iterator that she wouldn't be able to help train as well! Moon was a more generalized iterator as she was older, so she does have knowledge about medicine and bioengineering, as all iterators did for the health and growth of her city, but nothing to the degree Sig would need. Thankfully, iterators are fucking supercomputers, so its not like Sig needed much "training" in the way of that, but still. Moon wanted to be a good mentor to her! And she very much was, considering how Sig turned out. That's why they ended up so close.
After the mass ascension, he became the resident "doctor" of the local group. Pointing back to the slag reset keys, Sig seems to have shoved as many as he could into that thing, since Pebbles reacts to the amount of them with surprise, so he knows his way around iterator biology. In pure headcanon mode now, when they develop my tangible projections thing (which Sig and Moon were heavily involved in), it meant that she could actually help others by preforming repairs on their puppets, and even their structures by sending her overseer into them. Moon's inspectors enjoy head pats from her whenever he's passing by.
Her being a medical facility also means she doesn't give as much thought to finding the Triple Affirmative as others. His processing power was delegated more towards finding cures, aiding the sick, and engineering better production techniques for medical equipment and such. His city is also highly accessible and optimized for the disabled and elderly. When you're a medical facility, your goal is more to keep people alive than perma-kill them! I mostly get this headcanon from the fact that when Suns is faced with "what to do" other than solve the great problem, they respond with "What else CAN we do? You're stuck in your can, and at any moment you have no more than two alternatives: Do nothing, or work like you're supposed to.". Meanwhile, Sig responds to Suns' question about purposing another messenger with "There's nothing better for me to do with my time, though.". Not to mention, he was already purposing messengers before this, so she certainly wasn't dedicating all of her time to iterating the great problem! Of course, he probably did iterate on it, just not to the degree his peers did. He also jokes about it in that broadcast where Wind is telling everyone about erratic pulse, saying "Haha with the slimers, lizards and etceteras? Surely the answer was in a lizard skull all along!" so it really seems like he doesn't take it very seriously.
Her disinterest in solving the problem led to her developing a wide range of hobbies. He's an iterator after all, they probably get horrifically bored if they're not doing something! She taught herself to knit (telling his citizens it helped her focus so they would provide her with needles and yarn), and eventually learns to make garments as well. I headcanon he plays video games too, especially with Chasing Wind, mostly just because she probably wanted to see if an iterator could run Doom for the lolz. Probably also trolls in the group chats sometimes, considering the "distasteful pearl", and I think her being being NGI ("No Great Ideas") would be funny as hell. This also makes it pretty obvious why I made the streamer au, Sig's a top level player for multiple FPS games and has won some pretty prestigious awards in esports tournaments. And then she goes home and plays Hollow Knight randomizers with Pebbles in a maid outfit.
Sig's personality also lent itself to having a lot of friends. Her and Chasing Wind were built less than 50 cycles apart (Wind is older), so they're practically attached at the hip. Wind isn't in her local group (He's in Sliver's), but they're still very close. It's not really explored much in canon since we really only see her interact with Suns for the most part, but given her personality, I don't think it'd be a far off assumption for him to have lots of friends. Because she's younger, she also has a more sophisticated emotional AI...which can be detrimental at times, but is helpful when it comes to maintaining friendships!
AHAH So here comes the um. SAD portion of the rant lol. I feel like Sig buries her emotions down a lot, for the sake of others. In her conversations with Suns, we do see him get snappy with him, but for the most part he remains either calm or sympathetic, at the most a bit pessimistic towards the end. When she finally does call Suns out for their bullshit, he (presumably) stops replying to Suns for a short time before apologizing and continuing to talk to them.
SRS: I'm in noticing you are becoming more defensive. This obviously wasn't the end result I was aiming for, you know. SRS: Please respond to my messages. I don't want to leave it like this. I need someone to talk to. NSH: I don't mean to be cold, I'm just very worried.
After this interaction, Sig seems to either just reply with facts/possibly explanations for Moon/Pebbles' actions, or completely changing the subject to Suns' messenger, which then leads to the broadcast where Suns is telling her all the ways they modified their messenger to sneak past Sig's overseers, by not giving them the mark and hiding the pearl, we see Sig's replies become very short, single sentence answers.
Tumblr media
This to me reads as slightly passive aggressive, but Suns doesn't seem to pick up on it. To be honest I in my head I hear this as Sig hissing this shit through clenched teeth if he could, but it's just text so I suppose we'll never know.
Additionally, he still does let his emotions overwhelm her at points, (such as during the "Your plan was a complete failure" broadcast), but the most blatant is probably in the messages she sends to Moon and Pebbles.
Starting with the Pebbles one:
NSH: Five Pebbles, I will say once again. You need to stop. Immediately. NSH: I know you are going to trash this message like the rest, but... NSH: I hope eventually when you are out of this state of mind you will look back at these. NSH: Look back and reflect on all the regrets you've set yourself up to have.
Sig is angry. Like he shows no sympathy for him, and just hopes he wallows in regret for the rest of his life. She does express his dislike of Pebbles while talking to Suns as well, but manages to still be nice by saying "I think a lot of us were like that in the beginning.", and such, and then drops the subject by the next broadcast by talking about Suns' messenger. He only ever talks about Moon's condition, likely to keep himself from being a dick about Pebbles in front of Suns because talking directly about him is obviously pretty touchy. But this broadcast is straight up mean. She doesn't manage to hold back her emotions but to be honest? I don't think he actually cares, if he burns that bridge with Pebbles then fine, because Pebbles burned it first.
Pebbles took away one of the few friends he still had in this dying world.
I really and truly believe that Sig's biggest fear is being alone. She makes the slugcats as a way to keep in contact with others after the comms arrays degrade. After being snappy with Suns, she immediately backtracks, apologizes, and keeps talking to them, even if it hurts. His messages to Moon also emphasize this:
NSH: Moon? Moon, are you able to communicate?
NSH: Moon? It's me again.
NSH: I need to talk to you. I need to know you're okay.
The fact that we are provided two of these broadcasts and not just one seems to point to the idea that these are not the only two Sig sent. "It's me again." There is more desperation in her tone compared to the messages he shares with Suns, possibly because he's more comfortable expressing his profound distress with Moon because they're closer. A part of me headcanons she...never stopped sending messages. He needs to know she's okay. You can even find a green overseer in outer expanse and subterranean, locked out of the facility but still searching, still looking for any sign of Moon...or Hunter.
When Sig sends Hunter to Moon, the pearl he sends is goofy and lighthearted. He doesn't want to bring her down when she's already suffering enough. It's short, and sweet, because anything longer would probably devolve into something unpleasant. She's holding the words on that pearl together with tape and glue. Once again, hiding the pure grief he feels for the sake of others.
I also think that's why Hunter is sick. Once again, pure headcanon, but Sig mentions this on the pearl:
Excuse the unorthodox delivery method, equipment eroding etc etc.
I kinda interpret this as Sig pushing herself too hard to make Hunter in time to save Moon, and in turn, irreversibly damaging himself in the process. An emergency shutdown occurred after he ignores the 50th pressure warning his systems desperately tried to get her to pay attention to, causing Hunter to become sick thanks to the sudden disruption in his concentration, much like Pebbles and the rot. This is also why no other messengers were sent after this, Sig simply couldn't make any more that were healthy. She loved Hunter, and I fully believe that, as Hunter's last vision in the void sea was to return to his arms. Continuing the pure headcanons now, but he treats Hunter like a daughter and knits her a scarf for her journey. She tells Hunter that Moon is her mom. She gives Hunter a name, which were held in very high regard in ancient culture, a gift so she can at least be remembered for her sacrifice: "Hunting the Stars, Moon's Savior."
All and all, Sig is desperately trying to delay the inevitable, watching the walls of loneliness close in as she loses contact with friends, slowly encroaching on her until he's locked up in a box. Alone.
HOWEVER!
I for one, absolutely adore the goofy, flirty personality the fandom gives Sig. I really do believe when he isn't in extreme emotional distress, she is like that. The motherfucker uses tildes in his texts and teases Suns and makes jokes about slimers and lizards. I just like peeling apart the little snippets we see of him, which are mostly at pretty low moments unfortunately, and just seeing what I can extrapolate from that. Even if some of my headcanons are far-fetched and shit, I do at least try to keep most of them at least slightly in character with some explanation.
I hope you enjoyed my unhinged rant about my favorite guy!!!! I put this in google docs and its literally like, 2.4k words, I could genuinely have turned this in to one of my fucking college courses LMFAO. It's probably better than some of the garbage I DID turn in tbh. If you want more I am totally happy to provide, cuz I could make a whole OTHER ramble about Hunter that's just as long LMAOOOO
(Oh also none of this applies to rot au Sig. that freak deserves her own post bc at this point he's 50% oc and 50% No Significant Harassment Rain World LOL)

It's been a while since I posted anything about this AU augdsuasgd So here's 2 more character designs- Nightcat and Enot!
Nightcat, The Horror Addict
Having stumbled upon the mansion on accident with his sister Enot during a dare from his highschool friends, Night found himself becoming the mansion's most frequent visitor after being forced to attend a party there courtesy of Rivulet. As someone who loves horror and mystery medias, he finds Rivulet's mansion to be a rather exciting turning point for his life. Extremely curious and wide-eyed about anything spooky, Night is nonetheless a chill and hilariously witty guy who has a preference for emo/gothy feminine clothes, and whose eccentricities (such as his odd fondness for his personal umbrella that he carries everywhere) fit right in with the mansion's living residents in Arti's family. Despite having dated once (and getting cheated on for it), he's rather clueless when it comes to romance- resulting in his blind spot for Survivor's puppy crush on him!
Enot, The Diva
On the outside, Enot seems like a very flamboyant and arrogant beauty who takes pride in her cuteness and attractiveness, resulting in many slugcats falling for her left and right. However, deep inside she's a generous soul who wishes she can spoil her brother rotten. She's also not a dirty girl by any means- despite the many dates she went on for fun, she never allowed herself to do anything more than hold paws in terms of physical affections. For she has made a strict promise to herself to not ever be intimate with anyone, until she's able to support both herself and Night financially without needing help from her parents (who she and Night have a somewhat strained relationship with) In stark contrast to her little brother, Enot is easily frightened by anything that can be classified as horror. In spite of this, she makes it a point to always accompany Night in his visits to the mansion, both to keep an eye on him and to try to get over her own fear of anything spooky. It's a work in progress, but she's trying her best!

The Pearl Problem
ITERATION 2: THE REBEL
All That Beckons tries again with some new friends, and finds that not everyone is willing to go along with what he wants. And that isn't just these animals, either. He also discovers that creatures without glass bones are much, MUCH more dangerous. - chosen time. :] [AO3 Link]
"Log four! I've gotten some help from other iterators who go by Aberrant Creation and Programmed Interference. Me and Programmed Interference go a while back, but we haven't talked in a while. Glad that they're helping me with this. We've gotten a chance to catch up a little, but it's a bit awkward since it's been... Uh... I can't remember the exact number of cycles, but it's been a long time since we've talked."
"I'm making some progress now. I've gotten a plan together for a creature that will hopefully NOT self-destruct, and one that's going to be able to efficiently create the bone I need for a pearl. They should be pretty sturdy, too, which means they can survive the extraction and regrow the bone! Man, this is cool."
"Hopefully this'll actually work. I'm trying it right now; Hopefully in about 50 cycles or so it'll be ready. Feels like a long time, but I can wait. This has to work, right?"
---
"Log five. The creature is complete."
"I think I followed everything right. I, um... I tried to play it safe since I don't want to give myself rot by screwing this up worse than before. I'm feeling pretty good about the result, though. It's been wandering around for a few minutes-- doesn't look like it's limping or anything, and I'm pretty sure that's a good sign. Let me just... poke it with an inspector and make sure it doesn't die as soon as I touch it."
"Just gonna..."
"Oh. That's-- what is it doing? What is that?"
"Is something on fi-- THAT'S THE CREATURE THE CREATURE IS ON FIRE WHY IS I-"
---
"Log five, continued!"
"I am very fortunate that genetic engineering uses a lot of water... because that thing tried to set me on fire."
"I genuinely don't know where it got the ability to do that-- I mean, I put in some lizard genes just to make the bones more sturdy. That shouldn't have given it the ability to set fires! Much less be immune to it! And-- honestly, I'm kind of regretting not keeping the first one in general! That thing was a thousand times less likely to kill me than whatever this is!"
"As for what happened... I contained it. For now. But I need to figure out how to neutralize that thing. I think I have an idea, but I need to contact the others first."
"Hopefully I can get it done before it wakes back up."
---
"Log six."
"I've got it under control, I think. It's not exploding now, at least. I made something that I can trigger on command to release a biological coolant in their blood, because! It looks like lowering its body temperature prevents it from sparking any fires."
"...however... Aberrant Creation has stopped talking with us, because apparently keeping a creature from killing me is 'immoral'. It's not like I'm killing it, though."
"Actually, I don't think I could even if I was brave enough to. It killed, like, two of my inspectors. I didn't even know a creature could do that."
"It's kind of sluggish right now, but I'm hesitant to extract the bone pearl while my equipment is still damaged. And also while I'm down two inspectors. And while there's... structural damage... and..."
"I need to go repair things. I need to fix... all of this. Saints below. I'll update on the situation when I'm in better shape."
---
"Log seven."
"It's been a few cycles since I created... The creature. The slugcat. Should I have a name for that thing? I'll... I'll think about it."
"But it's going well. Seems like the coolant method's working to keep it controlled. I'm still wary to let it around any important components, but at least I don't feel like it's going to immediately try to blow a hole in my can."
"I also managed to extract the pearl, and even if it's not the best material, it's better than nothing. It's kind of porous but it'll work for art, I think. It's also shockingly colorful for bone; it's colored the same way any pearl would be. That was an accident, but they're nice to look at. I kind of wonder if their skeletons are colorful, too."
"Anyway... I've been trying to encourage it to cooperate with me, but I don't see anything behind those eyes. Completely vacant except for apparently the thought of killing me."
"...I'm sure it'll come around eventually."
"Log eight. Discordant Joy said I should name them, and we came up with a great name... The Chosen One!"
"Heheh... Pretty sure the Ancients would NOT be happy with that name, but screw them; I like it. They've been pretty cooperative lately, by the way. I've gotten them to do a bit of pest control after a couple of white lizards crawled inside. They got chomped once or twice, but I think they enjoyed killing those things. Maybe I just need to get The Chosen One things to kill that aren't me?"
---
"Log nine..."
"...Programmed Interference has gone silent. They won't respond to any messages."
"I'm starting to get a bit worried. They've been having issues for a while, but suddenly they just seemed to disappear."
"...These slugcats are meant to be messengers, right?"
"...I wonder..."
There's a long pause in the audio. All That Beckons is clearly deep in thought.
"...This might be a bad idea. I shouldn't be doing this."
"I think... I'm going to see about making one for its intended purpose. And this time, I'm not going to screw it up."

Lol. Scug Saiki is going to have either an easy time getting through Scavenger Tolls, or the hardest time.
Easiest because Scavengers are wary of Slugpups (best guess, blame Artificer) so seeing a Slugcat with ten Slugpups would activate the "DON'T HURT FOR OUR OWN SAFETY" alarms.
Hardest because he might have to find enough stuff to trade for all of them to pass the tolls safely.
Also, for first hand Cycle experience, here's my suggestion. Pole Plant with a Lizard being way too close to it. Yes I am speaking from experience-
God the tolls- its been a long time since Artificer timeline wise since scug saiki and co comes after ruffles, but i guarantee scavs have passed on stories and warnings about leaving slugpups alone if their mother is nearby because of artis warpath
saiki listens to moons overseer when it flashes images of a pearl at him, because its been correct about danger and food and shelter so far, and he does remember seeing a pearl not too far back, and so when he approaches the toll he does give them a pearl, but because of the scavs being wary of slugcats with pups, they only make him pay. once he hands over the pearl, him and his friends can all pass through
(those scavs held their breaths and held very still while all 10 pups crossed the toll, being super relieved when all the scugs were gone and uninjured. mother slugcat warpath part 2 prevented)
and god...saiki was used to hairo running off first, and he always reigned him in if the area was dangerous. but this was an empty clearing with poles to climb to cross, so he wasnt too concerned about hairo running ahead. that is until he ran and leapt for a pole...only for the pole to flare its crimson leaves and wrap around the poor pup, dragging him into its chambers before saiki could even react. he was absolutely fucking horrified because he doesnt know about the cycle, and one of his friends/pups just DIED. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. and he couldnt do anything
saiki and the pups stay there as long as they can, most of the pups whimpering and clinging around saiki, but theyre forced to leave when the rain starts to come. they get into a shelter and saiki falls asleep regardless of the traumatic day because he has to keep moving.
but when he wakes up, hes not in the same den. hes in the one they were in last cycle. and pup hairo is tugging at his ears to wake him up like usual. its mildly annoyingly but also what the fuck??
the pups have no recollection of the day lost. they are too young to be capable of grasping the concept of the cycle. only saiki does. and he isnt going to waste this very, very coincidental second chance. he hisses for hairo to stay still when they reach that room and chucks a spear at the plant, making it recoil and die...releasing the white lizard it had in its lower coils, almost ready to drag it in. this time, saiki dies. he didnt think he could, even if he had lost most of his powers in this strange isekai (cough). the lizard rushes towards him and crushes him in its jaws quickly
they wake up in the previous shelter again, and its definitely less coincidental. saiki has a hunch that something odd is at play
also mild headcanon as to how the cycles work is at play here lol. time is still progressing forward normally, but since the last time every single one of the scugs was intact was at an older shelter, their souls and bodies end up there upon a new cycle. the pups are so much a part of saiki that entering a shelter without the body of one of them is enough for a cycle to do its thing. and its also partially alternate timelines. i doubt his pups were able to take his body to a shelter without being hurt themselves, after all
cycles are complicated things that everyone has their own interpretation on haha. my interpretation is very loose, as i change it depending on what fits a certain thing better xD when playing the game i interpret them slightly differently, even, but theyre very open ended a concept and open to many interpretations anyways
sorty for typos btw if theres any i missed rereading this its 1am lol

"Never back down. Never let go. Never stop fighting. Fight... or be forgotten."
THE HUNTER / THE MARTYR (He/Her | Echoed Pathways) They are synonymous in this AU. They have arrived. A little bit about them below.
History Hunter was created genetically by NSH, but partway through his creation, NSH "deviated from the script" - effectively turning Hunter into an Android and giving him internal cybernetical enhancements. These came at the cost of increased hunger, and the Rot, but to NSH... this didn't matter. Not at the time.
Hunter was used as a messenger and a weapon by NSH, before the Iterator grew a deep bond and connection to their creation, treating them as their own and repenting for the fate Hunter was doomed to - but the slugcat themselves could care less for the inevitable end. They only pushed on, more and more. Fought more and more, against both their Rot and the cruelty of their world.
[DATA FORCIBLY EXPUNGED]
While some of his history feels like a blur, hidden to him, he feels and knows of a connection to the Iterator known as Sliver of Straw and their teachings - uptaking meditation and attempting to keep themselves in line with their karma, not just to traverse the world but to potentially give themselves some form of hope.
Soon enough, Hunter would receive the message. Deliver a pearl to the iterator, Looks to the Moon, who is currently suffering from a water deficiency as per the actions of another Local Group member, and return home intact and await further instructions.
And so he went, encountering the Saint as his saviour in what would have been an unfortunate fate, and a frustrating setback for the Hunter, and growing a close connection with the fluffy enigma, while meeting the Rivulet soon after at the troubled Iterator's can.
During his passage, a surprise encounter with the Survivor had him desperately explaining that, even if all hope is lost, ascension isn't an excuse to drown out that pain - and helped them reunite with their lost brother.
However, Hunter noticed something about the Monk. They bore scars, and the mark of a fighter, but bore no weapon. The boy had immense physical prowess - while not as much as Hunter, due to his enhancements, it was still particularly remarkable. Those marks also bore signs of natural karmatic prowess - they were a perfect candidate for what originally was [DATA INACESSIBLE]
The Hunter soon found himself mentoring the Monk, teaching him the ways of the world and how to manoeuvre it, how to become in tune with it, and how to defend himself amongst other things. Hunter's actions enabled the younger slugcat to pursue a scholarly background amongst their colony.
While Hunter did grow a deep bond with those he met, he only found himself falling further into a pit of emotions he couldn't understand thanks to the Saint. And inevitably, he boiled over... confessing what felt like the world to her.
And those feelings were reciprocated.
And the Hunter was no longer alone.
Though the future would bear a fate that Hunter would not be pleasant to meet... neither would it be the last ordeal he would go through... soon to bear a new title amongst their own.
Personality Hunter is extremely volatile, but is kind and caring to those he meet, always showing compassion if he's able to. Inherently a pessimist, he still fights regardless. His kind nature however, tends to be quite manipulatable, due to his second guessing of himself and others.
Doesn't like to talk much, but loves physical attention or affection.
However, suffers from PTSD and frequently re-experiences traumatic moments, causing him to become a rather despairing person at times.
Known Relationships Survivor - Good friends. Not much particularly of note, as they get along fine as is. Monk - Mentor. Teaches him things about the world, how to fight and meditation as well. Also friends.
Nightcat - Friends. Introverts get along well, and they appear to share a similar interest in a more technological background. Rivulet - Best friends. While Hunter is oblivious to the other's crush, they get along relatively hand in hand, and have been mistaken for partners at several occasions due to their extremely deep bond.
Saint - Lovers. Would die for, and then would die again and again if the situation called for him to do so. His love for the Saint knows no end - and has such, never once faltered, even through the toughest of times.
Inv/Enot - Can't really grasp a proper opinion on. Strange and... eccentric...? Seems to be compensating for something, but he doesn't know nor understand what it might be - just he knows that he's trying to be someone he's not.
Spearmaster- Despises. Constantly neck and neck with one another, over a deep grudge sparked from a prior rivalry that Hunter seems to have expunged from his memory, and his past - but Spearmaster remembers. Tarot [The World]
Design Inspirations Pansear's Hunter Roland Jotaro Kujo Probably others I don't remember
If you can't tell, I'm quite inspired by the people around me - especially Pansear, as they're the only one who's gone into such detail as I'm doing now. It's fun. It really is.
