Patalliro! is fascinating to me because of stuff like this. It's unapologetically gay - even within its anime which aired during primetime hours in 1982 - in a way that many later BL manga would never be, like the ones from the early 2000s which would never dare to call their characters actual homosexuals. Patalliro has actually aged quite well in this regard, there's something comforting about how campy it is.
#i still dont really understand how they got away with this kind of thing honestly#female VAs i get that - but first m/m kiss in an anime in episode THREE?????#theres also the maraich/thomas episode where they are *Both* voiced by women....advanced yuri#patalliro#i love how bancorans gender expression is pretty much explicitly to attract only bishounen#you blushed - so you must not be a girl#etc#i also love how joyful it all is#theres never anything sad or tragic about being gay - only that bancoran is forced to kill the bishounen spies/assassins/etc#when bancoran finds out that gay sex feels good after demian; in the manga he is elated. its basically a positive thing#he awakens to his true power...lol#also notable is that while bishounen youth is glorified maraich is 18#this means it portrays being gay as an adult as normal; not a phase relegated to nostalgic adolescent periods of time#according to the NYT japan's psychiatric body called homosexuality a mental illness until 1995#im NOT going to say patalliro changed that or anything lmao but its just significant to me that banmara get to live their lives happily#even raise children together in the manga....???#especially contrasting that with kaze to ki no uta and other manga of the time (no shade intended)#yaoi#<- for tagging purposes#obviously it also got away with a lot by being a gag manga. but still!#months later edit: want to say im not intending to moralize BL manga from the 2000s either. like gen. no hate on them.#as a gay person i just appreciate when characters who act gay are considered gay textually#and its kind of disheartening how gay-as-identity was treated as something incredulous in those manga a lot of the time#even the mere suggestion of attraction to men as a whole and not just the other male lead...yknow#this post is meant to praise patalliro for being unique in its approach to gay content compared to other titles#ive enjoyed plenty of 2000s yaoi titles despite their shortcomings lol#joseiposting#shoujo

btw i’m sure at least one person has seen this thread bc of the raidou being interested in men compilation post
Tumblr media
but has anyone actually read it since it has some of the actual worst but hilarious takes ever
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’m not saying you have to hc raidou as gay but like considering earlier in the thread they mentioned the fact that he’s a blank slate character, immediately contradicting this and stating like it’s a fact that he’s 100% straight and that he can’t be even slightly gay and that it was the dev’s intention for him to be super straight is hilarious.
i also appreciate this
Tumblr media
“i mean wtf is wrong with him?” is the best thing that could’ve been written here and i want people to ask a variation of this whenever any character in anything is revealed to be not cishet
let’s be real tho there’s no fucjing way he’d ever be more of a “pimp” than p3 or p4’s protags (and later joker p5). i think they meant ladies man but even then like. nobody ever will match that level.

What if they make an anime about rival idols who engage in increasingly more homoerotic circumstances with each season up until the point their current functioning dynamic is being a wrestling duo who raise a baby together. But this was actually just a b plot. The shows about six men who do terrible things but with the most based yuri representation in the meantime.

There's nothing inherently queer coded about tamaki specifically but like moving to a new school and immediately being drawn to these specific people, for some reason
Is def queer experience

What I love about comparing Idolish7 and Ensemble Stars is the fact that i7 has realistic storylines with intricately carved characters grounded in a mildly-supernatural (and, like, canonically, too) world with the worst timeline there ever was while enstars has somewhat unrealistic storylines with the most insane characters grounded in a Definitely Realistic No Supernatural Things Here (lying voice but nothing is ever confirmed) world where people are normal heights and age normally

i really do like oda i feel like i have to preface this that im chomping at the bit to get the actual plot with ace's execution moving since its been like 25 chapters and luffy STILL doesnt know somehow but im two and half chapters into amazon lily and some of this feels like its so comically misogynistic that star trek the original series in 1966 would have been like okay we need to rethink some of this

i have deep desire to write for demon slayer (and by write for it im specifically talking about zenitsu currently.) but the story is so deeply impacted by it's setting that its gonna take at least two weeks of research to do it any justice so the plans r Delayed
#aristotle.txt#writing for my hero = easy because im insane and know every inch of it#writing for anything else = impossible#i figured trying to find fic for it was going to feel like this in the first place#from my limited understanding the story takes place in the events directly after japans first industrial revolution#which means that the advent of technology is not only integral to the story telling but there's also like an unreal#amount of sociopolitical context for most of the major details#writing for my hero is easy because a society post tech is very easy to imagine. we live in it lol#demon slayer in particular takes place during the emergence of industry#what makes zenitsu an interesting character to me is that his narration is influenced directly by his class and proximity to modernity#he has a specific level of cynicism i can only describe as post industrial. whether that be his sense of cowardice over tanjiro/inosuke#or his attitude towards women. the way he behaves and how he critically analyzes certain kinds of behavior#like im currently watching the entertainment district arc and i think inosukes reaction vs zenitsus pretty much exactly covers it#where inosuke is overstimulated and tanjiro is reserved - zenitsu recognizes the district for what it is. that quality makes him stand out#a lot among them at least to me. i love hearing him talk sooo much lmfao.#anyways. all that to say. i want to write zenitsu but i need to do more reading to make it any good so . pray for me i suppose#zenitsu the embodiment of men used to chop trees and go to war fr
