My favorite weird piece of lore from MTG is that homophobia does not exist in the multiverse—yet we can tell from Alesha’s story that transphobia is still a thing.

Also, since we're on the subject, I love this depiction of Alesha so much, because we never really got to know what happened to her??? It's really heartwarming to see she got to live on into her older years to be a mentor figure.
Also, those fucking muscles- mommy ruin me!

Kamigawa for the plane ask!
Kamigawa: Your favorite Legendary Creature/EDH general.
I got a few of those, but I also got a number of commanders I really like, so it works out, I'll talk about one in each answer!
Our second pick isn't quite as spicy as the first, but she's awesome in very different ways: Alesha!
Tumblr media
Alesha is a very popular commander, and one I picked up relatively soon after she was released in Fate Reforged. I hadn't even read her story yet! She's an awesome character and a great commander, offering bits of value and making creatures that are pretty bad in most decks very powerful, with her cheap recursion.
The cool trans warrior leader card that's both fair and impactful. I don't play her as much these days because I'm a bit of a commander hipster and she's a very popular commander. But this isn't about the decks I play the most often, this is about my favorite legendary creatures, and from character to card, she scores very high in both regards.
I don't remember the last time I updated her deck, but I won't take it apart anytime soon.

I am very normal and not at all emotional about finding out that, even after 1200 years and in spite of everything, Alesha is remembered as a hero and remains part of the cultural fiber of her clan. That she's such a fundamentally important figure to trans people in her culture that, even after all this time, other trans people still go out of their way associate themselves with her. Yes. Very normal.

The Multiversal Girlboss battle is over!
Let's take a moment to look at the top 8 of our fine competition.
#1 - Vraska, Queen of the Golgari
Tumblr media
With a resume sporting feats of assassination, piracy, and a successful hostile overtaking of a swarm-like guild, it's unsurprising she'd find herself at the top.
#2 - Alesha, Khan of the Mardu
Tumblr media
This Khan who smiles at death viciously fought her way to the top, on the back of not only her incredible list of feats but also the fact that she is, indeed, transgender.
Tied for #3 - Liliana Vess
Tumblr media
Though I doubt she'd settle for tying, she'll have to accept it. This intrepid necromancer has seen the most limelight of any of the girlbosses in this tourney. I would go so far as to say that in her early years she defined what it meant to be a Magic girlboss. Unfortunately for her, her recently compromised girlboss status due to a pesky thing called "character growth" doomed her to third place.
Tied for #3 - Teysa Karlov
Tumblr media
Opportunistic and cutthroat, Teysa's slow climb of the Orzhov ladder, leaving her effectively at the top of a corporate AND religious hierarchy, gave her a strong case for her ascension to the title of ultimate girlboss. Unfortunately, she lost out to someone who was actually able to take over a guild.
Tied for #5 - Queen Marchesa D'Amati
Tumblr media
Long may reign the queen of Fiora, but let it be known that this is the highest title that she will achieve.
Tied for #5 - Nahiri, the Lithomancer
Tumblr media
While Nahiri has surely taken some girlboss actions (read: committed some war crimes), her status as a repeated failgirl blocked her from ascending any further in this competition.
Tied for #5 - Ashnod the Uncaring
Tumblr media
Speaking of war crimes, it's Ashnod! In spite both of her numerous felonies and her sporting that bob (one of the most girlboss hairstyles) she fell just short of greatness in this one.
Tied for #5 - Emrakul, The Promised End
Tumblr media
Rounding out our list we have Emrakul. We hope she's having fun up there in the moon, and we hope she knows we're ready for her to join us whenever she wants.
Link to final round masterpost.

"Legally, at that time, one was required to wear at least three-gender appropriate articles of clothing. Otherwise you were subject to arrest. Few heterosexuals were aware of the law. The archaic ruling was of major consequence only for the queens of the queer community. For my late-night forays, I generally wore two socks and a silky, if male, tank top under my very feminine slacks and top.
My outer garments had for years been very non-gender specific: velvet tops over stovepipe-cut slacks; oversized shirts over tight, tight jeans. I did not, however, hit the streets in cute little skirts and cashmere sweaters. I was conscious of the dress code and the fact that I was known to every cop on our block.
The city's finest were often found kibitzing with the owners at the club. In the years leading up to San Francisco's "gay-ola" scandal of the early 1960s, it was common practice for the owners of gay clubs to "grease" the legal system. Financial consideration in the right blue pockets allowed talented "fairies" to work and play without constant police harassment. The cops on Broadway knew who I was, and I knew them for what they were. Like everyone familiar with gay life, I carried a healthy fear of our law-enforcement officials. I played by the rules and only slightly bent the dictate that you arrive and exit the club... male.
"I know you think you're real, Girl," Stormy would fret, "But you're still almost six feet tall and bear a striking resemblance to that popular drag queen Lee Shaw. Don't think you're invisible to the police."
My friend was concerned for my safety, but her primary fear was not of the men with whom I danced at the Street of Paris. She knew how badly I would be treated if picked up by the police. I would be unceremoniously tossed into jail, if not worse."
