HI CAN I HAVE HEIZOU FOR YOUR EVENT???
(also CONGRATS ON 1000!!!!!)
🏠 ainsley's household, heizou.
a/n: thank you Gothy! Heizou, come downstairs >:(
_________ ׂׂૢ་༘࿐
Heizou is one of the youngest sons of the household. Mischievous as fuck and an absolute baby, you can guarantee that he'll rope you into some... shenanigans. Speaking of which, you can't see, but he's behind the stairs right now beckoning for you to come and see something, let me go and find him.
He tried to run away from my flip flop but didn't make it >:)
Ever since i adopted him, he, Kokichi and Venti have become absolute menaces. What makes them think that they won't escape a whooping 🤔 ? On the other hand, Zhongli being the oldest child, and albeit the most reliable, he never fails to report back to me. If that doesn't work out, I always have Kiyotaka to hand authority to as the Ultimate Moral Compass.
Hey, hey! [Name], hi! Mother/Father isn't looking right now, I have something to show you ;) BRING IN THE BOX KOKICHI-
A favourite pastime of his is two truths and a lie, and its really fun to play with the Ultimate Supreme Leader, because Heizou's really good at uncovering truths whilst Kokichi's really good at lying... makes it harder for me to figure out who drank all my chocolate milk and put the carton back in the fridge >:( TAKA!!
You're a good child, right?

Slice-of-life stories
SOL stories or other genres (but with elements of SOL/a SOL feel at times) tend to be my favorite thing to experiment with when coming up with a lot of my stories. Whether they’re upbeat or depressive, more adventurous or more day-to-day realism etc.
So I thought about some of the story ideas I have plans to make one day or just like to think up! I have basically a billion different story ideas and more OC’s than I could count (IDK if I’ll ever post/talk about them here one day?? might have to do something separate there). Some of which have been planned for years — though never written down.
Off the top of my head we have:
A small story revolving around 3 young adult friends who live together in the top floors of a flower shop. The shop is located in the city center of a big city, where usage of public transport is common. The main character being a girl named Juniper, who gets taken in by 2 roommate friends named Pandora (whose family owns the flower shop) and Ainsley when Juniper’s family kicks her out. The story is just a series of the 3 helping Juniper navigate her first few years as an adult, Juniper playing catch up from not being able to learn how to do a lot of things under her parents’ care, as they all explore the city together.
A comic I have in one of my old sketchbooks from 2019 about a girl who does art but is the struggling-to-stay-motivated type (LOL, I guess this is relatable) and works at a sandwich shop. Basically just some small tidbits of her trying to find her place in the world as she introspects through her job, place in the world, future, and self-comparisons. Some goofy scenes happen too, like bumping into old high school classmates at her job or meeting an artist she’s both admired/compared herself to and becoming good friends in an ironic-kinda way.
Another comic idea of a girl who works in a tea shop but has a gigantic pink pterodactyl friend… it’s supposed to be random and on the humorous side here (but I suck with writing humor sometimes, so I’m figuring this one out). The pterodactyl basically gets the tea shop worker girl out of a ton of hijinks in their crazy/chaotic city, where some new customers or a new recently-hired worker tend to draw strings of crazy events that pile up into some more surrealist randomness. *TBH I sort of like having characters in service jobs of big city environments ((not necessarily food or drink places; it could be something random like a librarian bc of the observations they can make of a diverse range of people)).
Some series of short stories of a happy family I wanted to get down. Exploring a 3-generational household that includes: The grandparents, their daughter (the mom) and her husband (the dad) who marries into the family, their 2 kids, 1 of the kid’s friends who stops by often (as their household becomes like a 2nd home to him), and a single mom + her child residing in their extra room — a friend of the 1st mom and whose kid has been friends with the siblings for most of their life. They’re kind people who help others (which explains why the single mom + the siblings’ friend is integral to their family as one of their own), and everyone looks out for each other. TBH, this is probably a story intended to stay happy + wholesome since it’s a bit of an escapism to see everyone have such a happy place together, no one abandoned or left behind. So my intention was to create stories that abound. Like how the quieter sibling has always struggled to fit in at school, the parents’ past love story, the 1st mom’s childhood as the only child, the single mother and her daughter’s story (+ their previous struggles with a living situation), the friend who comes by often and his feelings, how the grandparents are coping in old (etc etc). I guess I also love weaving stories by understanding people in layers, remembering real life people I’ve interacted with, and trying to understand and envision those characters’ lives similarly.
I have one more that’s kind of a nod to Gary Paulson’s “Paintings from the Cave: Three Novellas” — a book I read in schooling that’s stuck with me for a long time. So basically, it’s 3 separate stories in the same book with a common theme: How the companionship of dogs and art have helped characters cope in difficult times. The first story being a kid who copes with a hopeless life by ceramics, the second a girl who never belonged at home or in school by the friendship of dogs, and the last, a guy whose hope in life is both drawing and dogs.
My own idea was generally theming it around sleep problems that pour into your life, and how kids similarly cope with cats and art. But like “Paintings from the Cave,” it’ll still have a bit of a depressive/somber undertone.
So you get sleep issues like:
Insomnia due to anxiety + trauma for the main character of the first story, whose semi-nocturnal cats and sketchbook keeps them company in the moments awake before dawn. I haven’t planned this part out a lot.
Narcolepsy, as a medical condition that screws with a girl’s life (cause community college + work always sucks if you get sleepy in the day but are utterly unable to sleep at night). Because of her situation, she’s almost flunked a few times and a lot of her employers sadly had to let her go. So she decides to use her imbalanced sleep cycle to volunteer at a local shelter that needs night volunteers — where friendly cats help her regain a sense of confidence. You can’t fail at cats or get rejected from them like in a work environment — so long as they’re given space, care, food, and adequate shelter. So their lack of judgment soothes her in such a way.
Being a self-taught lucid dreamer who often uses sleep to escape reality. That leads to their hospitalization later on. But after being let go, they’re guided by a social worker who’s now organized to come by + help plan their life. They decide one day to use some of their dreams’ events and adventures as the springboard to draw out stories. I guess in a way, using art as a new coping mechanism and way to experience joy while awake.
There was a last story I made for a project in my last year of high school that’s also primarily late night-based and involves a sleepless protagonist (IK this is kind of a running thread — unintentional here). I haven’t really taken it seriously or planned in-depth, but it’s also one that crossed my mind ever so often. The plot basically goes:
A young adult lady works as a translator whose job is to travel between countries to work on translation projects. Her company of employment has bases in tons of different countries that work to transcribe anything from newspapers, books, or subtitles on screen. They have different departments for stable work vs. freelancing, and she’s somewhat 50/50 an office worker and a freelancer (tho the freelancery bits take her all over). She’s fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and English — partaking a project that requires her Mandarin + Cantonese skills. But upon the journey, she meets someone who eventually shakes up her quiet, lonely life between countries.
All in all, each of these stories takes the day-to-day situations and pacing. SOL is sorta what I use as a tool to explore different people’s life situations or see through different lenses for a day. Every now and then, I get ideas for new SOL-themed stories but it’s mainly these in my mind right now. I have many that aren’t in this genre though… but explaining my magic-fantasy-adventure-worldbuildy stories will take forever in comparison lolol.
Maybe one of these days, I can motivate myself to act upon my ideas?

The Wild Hunt Chapter (1/6?) This is Why you Never Play with Oujia Boards
October 31st, 1987 Aethelswith Atheling (17),  Ainsley Burke (16),  Joan Hanson (17),  Sarah Harlow (17), and Heluna Umbria (16), went missing at  Mrs. Jane Harlow’s home at 147 Cherry Lane.  If anyone has information in regards to their whereabouts, please immediately inform your local police department or contact the Wessex County Police Department at 749-XXX-XXXX.
Saturday,10:30 pm Halloween night,  Sarah Harlow’s 17th birthday party.
Aethelswith had never been a fan of Halloween night. It wasn’t because her family was Catholic, nor was it the fact the Sarah always partied a little too hard on her birthday. Rather it was the strange occurrences that had started after her thirteenth birthday, specifically on Halloween night. The 31st seems to hold the worst omens for her. It was as if the things stalking her would grow evermore powerful starting on this day.  Birds would start watching her throughout the winter with beady little eyes, another time she swore something or someone tried to drown in her family’s pool, and now the ever increasing empty stares that seemed to followed her had begun to target her friends.
Joan with her vibrant red hair and ‘too cool to care’ attitude had started complaining about always being cold. Even in the middle of July, she dressed as if it was the middle of November. She felt like a walking corpse that was unable to retain heat. Shy Ainsley who rocked a bitchin brunette perm had the opposite problem. She was always hot, to the point when others touched her, it felt that her skin was oozing the very fires of Hell. Blonde Sarah had always said nothing was going on, but recently an alarming amount of bodily injuries had been piling up on her past boyfriends. Some had little nicks or cuts that they would wake up to find on their body, but the longer the boy had dated her the worst the injury. Just last week, her boyfriend Johnny broke his leg by falling down a flight of stairs. He swore that someone pushed him. But out all of these strange events, the craziest occurrence was Heluna was in love.
Heluna, who was technically Aethelswith’s aunt,  grew up in a rather strict household.  This pure angel, goody-two-shoes,  teacher’s pet, perfection incarnate had broken parents' cardinal rule: if you’re dating we must meet the boy first.
Not only had Heluna failed to mention him to her parents, but gave as little as possible information to her friends. The only information her friends had gotten her was that his name was Sigurd, and according to Heluna, he was a dreamboat with blonde hair and snake-like eyes. They had met at the reptile exhibit at the zoo in June. He sends her poems and love songs coined ‘ to my love Blaeja’.  Apparently, it was a compliment to Heluna's black eyes. It might be the first time in Heluna’s life that she had any true freedom to make her own choice.  It was like she was planning their wedding already and the following escape from her father’s control. Interrupting Aethelswith thoughts Sarah pulled out something out of the living room closet.
“ Girls, let's play a game” Sarah called out. Out of the corner of her blue eyes, she saw the infamous Ouija Board.
“No, way I am doing that!” Ainsley whispered. Her brown doe eyes widened in fear as if she knew who was on the other side.
“Come on! As the birthday girl for the next hour and a half, I get to decide what we get to do. Besides, don’t you guys want to take a little risk.” Sarah scanned the room directly looking at Heluna, Ainsley and her knowing they would be the most reluctant.
“ Whose in?” Sarah asked while setting the board down on the coffee table.
“ I’ll join” Joan called from the kitchen after getting another slice of pizza.
“So will I” Heluna called triumphantly, moving towards the coffee table.
“Heluna, you can’t be serious. Your dad is going to kill you when he finds out.” Aethelswith warned.  She could feel it in her gut. A cold, sickening feeling squirmed in her stomach.  It was if the room was growing darker, heavier as if more people had joined the room as if they were waiting for them to play or, worst, pushing them to play. Perhaps she was the only one that could tell. Rationally, she told herself it’s just Halloween jitters, nothing is out there or in here.
“ I totally agree, with Ash. Can’t, we like, just paint our nails or play Twister. Anything…  I don’t care… just not this.” Ainsley lithe body seemed the fall into herself as if she could feel the same things as Aethelswith.
“ Don’t worry about this Ainsley. I got it from Stacy. We’ll each ask a question and be done with it ok. I promise” Sarah gave a radiant reassuring smile ”Besides, you, I, and Stace are on the cheer team together. Would she really do anything bad to us? Plus, she left me some notes on this thing”
Sarah lifted the note from Stacey. Stacey was on the cheerleading team at their high school with Sarah and Ainsley. They were stereotypical popular girls at their school. Honestly, if Sarah hadn’t met her other friends at their Catholic school, Stacey probably would have led her into hot water, but Sarah was loyal to a fault.
She started to read the bright pink note.
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great 17th.
Sorry, I couldn’t make it.  Love Stace.
Remember to keep these rules in mind while playing!
Rules From Stacy
Be Serious This is not a game
ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE
Ask one question at a time
DO NOT ask about God, when you will die, or where gold is buried.
NEVER play alone
“See it's totally fine, don’t worry about it. Ainsley, Aethelswith come on please join.” Sarah whined until the remaining girls finally joined in. An unnatural chill came over the girls as their hands touched the planchette. Aethelswith could feel another hand on her wrist lightly tracing the skin as gently as a lover. But, of course, there was nothing there, nothing tangible, clearly, Aethelswith thought that she must be losing a little bit of her sanity. Shakingly, Sarah started speaking.
“Um, Hi, I’m Sarah, In the Star Wars shirt is Joan. In the rainbow nightgown is Ainsley, in the blue PJs is Aethelswith, and to my left is Heluna. We would like to ask some questions”. After a short pause, Sarah continued.
“ Did someone push my boyfriend Johnny down a flight of stairs?”.
It felt as if the majority of the silent presence were slightly laughing at the expense of another person there. Slowly, the disk moved towards yes. The girls looked at each other with a silent agreement that none of them had truly moved it.
“Who did it?” Ainsley whispered barely loud enough for Aethelswith to hear despite being right next to her. The disk moved again but it was not the done by the same spirit as before. The disk started spelling. H-V-I-T-S-E-R-K.
“Who the fuck is Hvitserk?” Joan uttered. The disk moved again slowly spelling more letters. A-M-O-N-S-T-E-R. The air gets colder as the light slowly dims above them. Flickering on and off. Ainsley visibility shuddered and whipped her hands off the disk.
“ I’m done! I’m not doing this anymore! I can’t take it touching me with those burning hands anymore!!” Ainsley yelled, fear contorting her face As she ran to the bathroom. Joan went after her, trying to calm the crying girl down.
“I think we should stop- ” Aethelswith replied but the hand tracing her wrist suddenly became a solid bruising grip preventing her from taking her hand off the disk.  A dark seductive voice whispered in her ear: You didn’t ask your question my beauty…. As a calloused hand ran through her curled locks.
“ Did you guys hear that?” she asked.
“What do you mean, I didn’t hear anything’ Sarah quipped as if trying to deny the ever growing gloom pressing down on them.  She continued. “Heluna ask your question, I’m going to go check on Ainsley and Joan. They’re taking a while.” Taking her hands off the disk as she went towards the hallway bathroom where it had become oddly silent.  Heluna took a shuddering breath before gathering her courage.
“Is Sigurd like Hvitserk- I mean is he an actual monster or are you using the term ‘monster’ as a description of Hvitserk’s personality?” Heluna asked but was replied with no movement from the board.
“ I think you need to ask something simpler or maybe you need to ask one question at a time,” Aethelswith responded quietly.
“ Ok. Where is Sigurd?” Heluna continued jokingly not thinking the board would know the answer. To their surprise, the disk began to move again. H-E-R-E.
“Sigurd, can’t be here. He doesn’t even live in this county-” She turned to Aethelswith
He told me he’s from-” a sharp knock came from the door interrupting her. They look away from the board and stared at the doorway.
“Heluna, don’t answer the door!” Aethelswith hissed, but a strange trance seemed to overtake Heluna. Black eyes almost glittering with want.
“But what if it's him... I’ll just answer the door and prove it's not.” She whispered back.
“Heluna, please! I can’t play alone, remember.” Aethelswith pleaded with wide blue eyes. Another harsher knock came from door impatiently waiting for them to answer. Heluna regained focus and looked back at Aethelswith nodding to finish the game. Taking a deep breath Aethelswith asked her question
“What do you want from us?” she questioned as the invisible hand holding her wrist began silently trail from wrist to her fingers. The hand settled on top off hers as it guided the disk. A-Q-U-E-E-N. It had taken a slight pause and began to move again. A W-I-F-E. It moved for a final time painfully gripping her hand. A-M-A-T-E ”  Ugh gag me with a spoon. What does this psycho think he’s talking about? Were, like, 17.” She thought to herself with disbelief.
“Hey, Heluna will you get the other girls? We need to say goodbye to board” Aethelswith stated growing tired of the hand on top of hers.
“Yeah let me go answer the door first,” Heluna said as she quickly moved from the living room.
“ I really don’t think that’s a good idea-” she was cut off by the hand crushing hers, keeping her hand on the disk. She could feel the sharp sting of claws digging into her skin. Suddenly, the room seemed to warp into another landscape entirely. The cream-colored living room faded into a stone covered walls. Taperaries were hung against the walls and furs covered the floor. She was bathed in firelight coming from the roaring fireplace. She could now see a discolored hand on top of hers. Claws protruded from where a normal person’s nails would be.
“Do not worry my princess. Soon we'll be together again” a dark gravelly voice spoke to her. She willed herself to look up at where the voice was coming from. The darkness obscured his face but from the shadows, she could make out curved horns, sharp teeth, leathery wings, and haunting ice blue eyes. She quickly tore her hand away from his, as she tore her body away.  shuffling from him as quickly as possible.
“Get away from me!” Aethelswith whispered frantically backing up towards the wall. He remained in the darkness but she could see the hurt in his eyes.
“You don’t remember do you?” he sighed, “ I suppose it has been so long since we were last together, my beauty. But after tonight, our long wait will be over and it will be as things once were. Before you were taken from me.”
Turning from the creature she ran out of the room her heart hammering in her chest. She wasn’t crazy, all this time she had been right. There had been something following her and her friends. She crashed through the wooden door in front of her leading back to the living room.
This can’t be right. Why am I back here? She thought to herself. She had to get her friends and say goodbye to that stupid board. Running to the hallway bathroom she swung open the door to discover Ainsley, Sarah, and Joan had disappeared.
Inside the bathroom, lava oozed from the bathroom mirror and burn marks covered the room. On the other side of the room, frost covered the shower tiles while snowy handprints showed an apparent struggle. The most disturbing part of the room was the floor. What had once been a pastel pink tiled floor now had a gaping hole in the center that only showed an earthen black abyss. Whatever had taken the girls was not of their world.
Rushing from the scene, she realized Heluna wasn’t with her. Please God, tell me she didn’t answer that damn door! In another sprint, she raced to the front door. Opening it to find it empty but crawling with snakes, from constrictors to vipers. Slamming and locking the door back behind her, she couldn’t help the fear rising back up.
This isn’t happening! I’m dreaming! Right of course. I’ve fallen asleep first like I always do. She thought to herself. Ignoring the ever present darkness closing in around her, she made the move to pinch herself. If it doesn’t hurt that must mean I’m dreaming. Quickly her right hand pinched her left arm but was only felt pain.
Oh God, why are doing this to us? Is it my fault? She thought. but was interrupted by the bang at the front door.
“Princess, unlock the door.” he chastised gently, “ We don’t want to keep the others waiting, do we?”. He was real, this was real. She gripped her crucifix as tears filled her eyes, and recited a prayer knowing it was the only thing that could help her now. She started speaking loudly,
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He causes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Even when I walk in the valley of darkness, I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff-they comfort-”
“Princess, you know I hate when you call on your precious Jesus Christ. You know he can’t help you now.” The voice was no longer sweetly chastising her, but replaced with a gravely demonic voice that dripped with acidity. As if he sensed her fear he returned to a sweet purring tone,
“I didn’t want to scare you too much, but we’re going to be late for the hunt princess…” he sighed.
“I guess we're going to have to play a little rough… but you always enjoyed that didn’t you? ” he chuckled darkly. Without a second to spare the figure kicked down the door showing the monster behind the door. Her breath caught in her throat, staring at the creature before her. He was strangely attractive with long braided hair, dark beard, and Armani suit. Like a predator on the prowl, he began to slowly advance towards her.
Shit Sarah, this is why we don’t play with Ouija boards! Aethelswith thought to herself as she slowly back stepped from him.  Stalling for time to get to the back kitchen door she faked bravery and began talking to the creature.
“Look, I’ve never met you in my life buddy. You’ve clearly got the wrong girl.” She boasted but remained unfazed by the announcement.
“Princess, it won’t be long until you remember. Now don’t make this difficult for me. I don’t like causing you pain, well, unless you ask for it. That’s a different story.” He chuckled.
“Great, I’m dealing with some pervy demon intent on getting into my pants” she mused. But then inspiration struck her, perhaps I could entice him with her body. Sure she never had any real experience with that type of thing unless you count Edmund at eighth-grade bible camp, but then again she was pretty sure he was in the closet.  Subtly shifting her nightshirt  to show off some of her skin, she gave him her best fearful face pleading mercy with him
“Sir, please, I didn’t mean to cause any trouble. Please, won’t you just let me go? I promise I’ll behave” she pleaded, seeing the lust in his eyes. Only of few more steps lay between her and the back door.
“Oh, but Princess, I want play with you” He growled taking a swift lunge at his target, but she had already reached the door. Running into the dark forest not bothering to look back or think about what might in the woods she ran. Heart hammering in her chest, she ran further into the maze of forbidding trees. Taking a look behind her, she saw glowing blue eyes in the distant.“
You just made this so much more fun for me, Princess!” He laughed. It sounded like he was right behind her breathing down her neck.
“Leave me alone!” Her shrill voice cried out, tears visibly coming down her face. With a loud crack another creature came from the woods. It was… It was a dog? Thinking of the sheer  absurdity of the situation, she could laugh to herself. But soon the body of the fluffy white dog began to grow adding another head, limbs, tails, until there were six eyes look back at her. These were no fluffy white dogs anymore, molted decaying skin clang to their skulls while they possess the same icy glowing blue eyes as their master. Another figure came up behind the hounds with the same glowing blue eyes.
“I see you’ve met my very own Cerberus.” He paused to look back at his princess running further to the starting line,”

When playing this game, it’s important not to make any noise” He shouted to her. Ignoring his words she continued running but the scratches and marks were blooding her skin and she knew she couldn’t keep up this pace. Suddenly she saw candlelight  in a window of a abandoned Victorian house. Not believing her luck she renewed her effort. Just a little farther and they’ll be someone there to help you she prayed. Crashing through the door  she found it entirely empty, but safe enough for her taste. Taking a turn back  she saw the demonic creature and his dogs  jogging at a leisurely pace. Flipping the bird  to them, she slammed the door, locked it and began pushing the nearest piece a furniture  against the door when the house changed around her. Changing from a decaying house, the candles began glow in force all around her, faded wallpaper return to it’s colorful hues, and broken and missing furniture filled the foyer. Turning to face a sweet girly voice Aethelswith faced a small blonde girl with purple bruises around her neck, staring at her with green eyes,
“ Are you ready to play the game?”

❝ MY FUTURE USED TO SHINE AS BRIGHT AS A DIAMOND. I KNOW I MESSED UP, BUT THERE'S NO USE IN CRYING. ❞
GENERAL INFO
NAME: Leonardo Hastings GENDER/PRONOUNS: Cis Male, He/Him DATE OF BIRTH: June 4th, 1989 PLACE OF BIRTH: New York City, New York CURRENT RESIDENCE: Brooklyn OCCUPATION: Unemployed  FACE CLAIM: Chace Crawford
SUPERNATURAL INFO
SPECIES: Vampire  CLAN POSITION: Member  AGE AT TRANSFORMATION: Twenty-Nine
BIOGRAPHY
Trigger Warnings: Kidnapping, Abuse, Blood, Affaire, Sacrifice
Twins out of wedlock, Leo and Logan were the result of one of Richard Hastings’ many affairs. Though their mother, Ainsley Hartley, tried to make things work, by the twins’ second birthday, she ended their relationship and cut ties with their father. Over the years, when it seemed Richard was getting his life together and had yet another child on the way, Leo and Logan were reintroduced to their father and to their other siblings, but this attempt at a happy family would not last long. When it came time for the coven to appoint a new supreme, Richard believed his moment had come at last, but he was passed over for the position. Erratic and desperate to fix this, Richard planned to sacrifice his children in order to form his own coven and become Supreme. Luckily, the children’s mothers, the supreme, and the coven appeared in time to stop the ritual and save the children.
Richard was stripped of his powers and sentenced to death but he escaped, taking the youngest child, Liv, with him. After the trauma of the events, the mothers decided it was best for their children to forget all that had happened. They dosed away the memories and took away all proof of Richard and their youngest sister, telling them instead that their father had left long ago. In the meantime, the children were watched closely for any signs that they might share their father’s instability. Though Leo would not know the the true severity of the connection for many years to come, he did everything in his power to prove himself as unlike his father as possible.
Perhaps it was some submerged memory of his father’s mistakes, perhaps just instinct, but Leo spent his childhood on a direct line to perfection. He was, in every way, the golden child, always ready to lend a hand to his mother, to help with the household, to look after his siblings. He was a ready made babysitter, never argued about chores, and always turned his homework in on time and signed up for every extra curricular. Where his sister rebelled, Leo obeyed; it was Leo who always tried to drag his sister back by curfew, who pushed her to finish her homework, always offering to help her if she needed it. But when it soon became clear that he couldn’t make her follow the rules, he switched tactics, doing what he could to protect her instead. If she snuck out, Leo covered for her. If she was ever in trouble, he was there to pick her up. And if all else failed, he was right by her side for the next adventure. Though he said he was coming along for the ride only to make sure she stayed safe, there was a part of him that knew he needed Logan just as much as she needed him: while he tried to reign her in, she helped him to let loose, to feel, for even a second, like he could let go of all the pressure he’d piled on himself over the years.
But this was Leo’s constant, the knowledge that he could always do more, that he had to do everything, that he couldn’t let anyone down. By the time he graduated high school--valedictorian, star player of his baseball team, and student body president--he was awarded a full ride scholarship to Columbia University. There were other offers, schools he secretly wished to attend, but he refused to leave the state, as that would mean leaving his siblings and coven. This was his home, and he was sure it always would be. He would not, after all, leave the way his father did.
It seemed only a matter of time before he was made supreme. He wasn’t even sure if it was something he wanted--he’d never stopped to ask, to let himself wonder--because his future had always seemed such a set path, predetermined. His power as a witch had been to heal, and so it had only seemed natural to go into medicine. Leo was finishing his last year of residency as a surgeon, moments from finally beginning his career, when, unknown to him, his father paid a vampire to turn him, and suddenly everything changed. Barely in control and struggling to adjust to this new way of life, Leo confronted his father and accidentally killed him--or so he thought, his father being turned instead.
In those first few tumultuous months, Leo found the thirst nearly unbearable, and with a job that put him in constant, tempting contact with human blood, he went on “sick” leave and eventually quit entirely. He quickly lost contact with his human friends, and he broke off his three year relationship with a fellow medical resident. At home, the changes continued. His whole life, the coven was all that Leo had known; all the mother’s of Richard’s children had tried to hold the family together, to make a community, and Leo had bought into it entirely, so it was a shock to find how quickly and easily the coven cut him loose when he was turned. In an instant, the “family” he’d been raised in was gone, but his siblings, luckily, remained. Though he told Logan she didn’t need to return to New York for him, he was secretly thankful that she had: she and Liv were a constant in this new wave of change.
The old Leo might have been surprised--even jealous--when his twin was then appointed Supreme, but it soon became clear to Leo that that position was not something he’d ever really wanted, and Logan, thrust into leadership as she had been, deserved it far more than he ever had. In fact, nothing that used to matter to Leo seemed to matter anymore: all his plans had gone up in smoke. The only constant was that he could still heal others, just now with his blood, rather than with his magic. All his old attachment to the coven has gone, as Leo can now see clearly how toxic the community always was. Today, Leo is unemployed, compelling when necessary, and frequents the night club, Sinners. The way he sees it, he spent his whole life working, doing the right thing, only for it to mean nothing in the end. Now, it’s his turn to rebel, his turn to stop caring, to stop playing by the rules.

AINSLEY RICE. college junior; twenty. tati gabrielle. TAKEN.
and, as allison reynolds once said:
“When you grow up, your heart dies.”
BEFORE THE PARTY;
Ainsley Rice was very much an enigma to all in Rosewood. But what Rosewood didn’t know was that she was an enigma to herself, even. Like many people born of her generation, she was struggling to find out who it was that she wanted to be. A struggle that wasn’t made easy with everyone’s incessant need to label every aspect of one’s being. The never stopping parade of must try trends and insanely high expectations of what beauty was. Oh, and let us not forget to mention, just how desensitized everyone appeared to be towards everything.
The world was going to hell and it’d often felt like she was the only person who was in on that reality.
From a young age, Ainsley felt this overwhelming sense of panic. Which was odd, given that her life at home had been about as normal as it could be. She came from a loving two parent household, where she’d never gone without anything she needed. It wasn’t like she’d been abused, had a shortage of clean water, her life was just fine. But even the normalcy of her life couldn’t stop the never-ending anxiety she’d felt. Her parents, being the great parents were sought help.
That’s when Ainsley was given her first batch of labels at the ripe young age of eight. She’d was labeled OCD, ADD, Anxious and oh, how could she forget— she could possibly be bipolar.
And once she’d been labeled, she’d felt the stigma almost immediately. You see, in a town like Rosewood... abnormality was essentially Hester Prynne’s scarlet ‘A’ and much like Hester Prynne, she’d been subject to humiliation. Her parents tried their hardest to make her feel unashamed of the issues she was dealing with. They’d often list incredible people who suffered from mental health disorders; Van Gogh, Sylvia Plath, and Britney Spears.
But all she could think was that things hadn’t exactly ended all too greatly for two out of the three aforementioned people.
So she sought out ways to quiet those thoughts that ran through her mind. And eventually, she did. She’d been eleven years old and she’d just suffered one of the worst panic attacks she’d had up until that point. It’d felt like all the air in the world had simply vanished. Once at the hospital, they’d hooked her up with liquid Valium to calm her down. And then it happened. The feeling she’d been after. The world went quiet and she finally felt safe.
She’d found a way to live. Sure, the panic attacks stayed but she coped.
It began with medication in the family’s medicine cabinet. Whatever she could get her hands on, she attempted. As she grew up and parties raged all over Rosewood, she tried her hand at whatever was given to her.
But she was eventually forced to face the hard realities of what she’d been doing. She overdosed on fentanyl six months ago, her younger brother having found her in a pool of her vomit.
This moment having set in motion the chain of events that led to finding herself a part of the very cheekily named ‘Breakfast Club’, a mandatory weekly therapy session. Her inclusion in the therapy session had been a part of her rehab release conditions.
After six months away, Ainsley was back in Rosewood and yes, people still steered clear of her. Some even having assumed that she’d died. But no, she was very much alive and she wanted to remain that way. For her parents, for her younger brother, and now, for Adeline Chadwell.
She was unlike anyone she’d ever met before. Adeline was the kindest human being she’d ever met, even despite all that she’d gone through. She was vibrant and full of life, something that Ainsley desperately wanted to be. So the two very much hit it off, so much so that Ainsley could only assume that she might have feelings for her. Now, Ainsley had never been in love but she very much felt something for the blonde.
Something that made her want to be better.
And she would be.
DURING THE PARTY;
Ainsley stood in front of her mirror, trying to find something nice to wear. But what exactly was nice? Her closet didn’t exactly scream nice. It was more like comfortable, or as Adeline liked to often put it... Seth Rogan chic. Which she was pretty sure was an insult, as Callista had agreed with her in Adeline’s mind; adding chic to anything instantly made it stylish.
It was little moments like that which had caused her to be in awe of the girl. She didn’t quite get how her mind worked— something people could also say about herself, hell she did every day, but she definitely loved how it did.
As she pulled off yet another shirt, Ainsley’s little sister stepped in to offer her advice. Most times, she would have scoffed at such an offer given her sister was vying to be Rosewood Academy’s next big asshole but she really needed it then and there.
Seeing Adeline’s face (and Barrett’s... and her parents, to be quite honest) as she descended down the steps was worth the hours she’d spend at the mercy of her sister. It even made having to take a ton of pictures with her friends, via her father’s polaroid bearable. They’d made their thoughts on Adeline very clear, they really liked her. Sure, that’d also prompted the conversation of their relationship status. Not that she actually had an answer for them, as she herself didn’t quite know what Adeline and herself were.
All she did know was that she really liked her. That she deserved better than late night hook ups with men that didn’t compare to the incredible human being that she was. So that evening, watching Adeline dance with all the confidence in the world— not caring who was staring as she was enjoying herself, it stirred something in her. She needed to tell her how she felt about her.
But as great as the evening had began, it took a turn almost instantaneously. One moment Adeline had been her usually smiley-happy self and then, she began drinking. Which, had been their rule for the evening. They weren’t suppose to drink or get into any trouble. But once Adeline had gotten started, she didn’t seem to want to stop. Which prompted Ainsley to grow more protective of her, but the more she seemed to help... the more Adeline seemed to push away.
So much so that as Ainsley had gone off to find her a bottle of water, in an attempt to sober her best friend up— Adeline had decided that making out with one of the idiots on the football team was far more important than sobering up.
Watching Adeline with her tongue down some guy’s throat, well it’d made her angry. Angry enough that her hands had begun to shake and for the first time in quite some time, she found herself with a need. An all too familiar need. One that could be met far too easily in their current environment and that was her clue... that she needed to go. And now.
alternate faceclaims and prompts.

Books to help you navigate homeschooling your kids
Why Homeschool?
Homeschooling has been around since antiquity. Schooling as we know it – ‘compulsory education,’ has only been around for around 150 years in the United States, with Massachusetts making the first law mandating it in 1852. Mississippi was the last state to pass laws requiring that children must go to school, and that was as recent as 1918. Even then, many of those schools in Mississippi weren’t exactly open to everyone. Originally in the US, children under seven didn’t go to school and girls only went part of the year, if their families let them go at all.
In the 1970s a new movement of homeschooling began with the introduction of John Holt’s book Teach Your Own (first published in 1981) and Dr. Raymond S. Moore’s book Better Late than Early (first published in 1975). To date, homeschooling is utilized primarily by two-parent households where both parents do not have to work full-time. The demographics of homeschooling in the United States are predominantly white, although the number of minority households that homeschool is growing steadily.
With so many schools being closed due to the COVID pandemic in the spring of 2020 and the uncertainty about the safety of reopening in the fall, more and more parents are considering homeschooling their children, at least temporarily.
Below are some resources to help get you started with sifting through the plethora of choices that are available to homeschoolers. Biblio is a fantastic place to find any book you’re looking for – whether its a math book for a certain curriculum (search by ISBN please!) or a classic children’s book to fill their private reading time.
Homeschooling 101: Basic Resources
When you’re starting to homeschool your children, the vastness of resources, and especially opinions, can be overwhelming. Here are a few books to get you started:
How Children Learn by John Holt was first published in 1967 and continues to be a classic in education. Holt’s pioneering book focused on the idea that children learn best when not pressed, but rather self-directed, as learning is as natural as breathing to them. It continued to be a popular and important resource for homeschoolers, and in the fifty years since it was published, it has sold more than a million copies.
The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child: Your Complete Guide to Getting Off to the Right Start by Linda Dobson is a comprehensive guide to developing your homeschooling philosophy and setting your curriculum. Dobson has multiple other homeschooling titles as well, such as Homeschooling: The Early Years and Homeschooler’s Success Stories.
The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling by Deborah Bell was first published in 1997 by Thomas Nelson and has gone through 3 editions with updates since. It is a manual for providing a quality education for children while maximizing family life.
So You’re Thinking About Homeschooling: Fifteen Families Show How You Can Do It by Lisa Whelchel was published by Focus on the Family in 2005 and deals with common questions in a story-based approach using real-life examples.
The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook: A Creative and Stress-Free Approach to Homeschooling, first published in 1994 by Thomas Nelson, is a low-stress, low-cost program written by two of the pioneers of modern homeschooling, Raymond and Dorothy Moore.
Homeschooling for Excellence by David and Micki Colfax was first published in 1988 by Grand Central Publishing. The Colfax’s homeschooled their 4 sons, 3 of who went on to Harvard and all of them growing to have distinguished careers.
Planning Curriculum and Ideas for Homeschooling
Deciding to homeschool is just the beginning, but finding the right curriculum and planning a schedule for the year (much less for the day!) is another story. Here are some popular resources that can help.
Plan Your Year: Homeschool Planning for Purpose and Peace by Pam Barnhill
101 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum by Cathy Duffy
The Complete Home Learning Source Book by Rebecca Rupp is subtitled The Essential Resource Guide for Homeschoolers, Parents, and Educators Covering Every Subject from Arithmetic to Zoology.
The Ultimate Book of Homeschooling Ideas: 500+ Fun and Creative Learning Activities for Kids Ages 3-12 by Linda Dobson
Types of Homeschooling
We’ve listed eight ‘types’ of homeschooling below, although there are many different variations of homeschooling, and decisions are made based on family beliefs and the individual needs of the child. While some people follow a single type, other families meld curriculums together or decide to throw them all out the window.
Classical Homeschooling
Classical has traditionally been the most popular type of homeschooling. This method of teaching has been employed for thousands of years and has created some of the greatest minds in history. Classical homeschooling focuses on the ‘five tools of learning,’ known as the ‘Trivium’: Reason, Record, Research, Relate, and Rhetoric. The first stage of Classical homeschooling is Grammar and learning how to learn. The second stage is Logic, learning how to think and reason. The third stage is Rhetoric, where all the learned skills are sharpened and focused. Some classical homeschoolers incorporate learning Latin and Greek into their curriculum as well.  It is a very structured environment, and school time and assignments are completed according to a plan.
The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessi Wise was first published in 1999 by W.W. Norton and has gone on to be revised multiple times, the newest being the 4th edition in 2016.
Simply Classical : A Beautiful Education for Any Child by Cheryl Swope
The Core: Teaching Your Child the Foundations of Classical Education by Leigh A. Bortins
The Charlotte Mason Method of Homeschooling
Charlotte Mason was a 19th-century homeschooling pioneer who believed that children were people in their own respect, not merely blank slates waiting to be written on. With Charlotte Mason, short periods of learning are broken up by nature walks, and learning revolves around observation, memorization, and narration. Children are given time to journey and explore, and journaling is also an important component.  Books are central to this style, with the idea of ‘Living Books’ or book that teach through the ideas that they contain rather than facts, and their ability to come alive in the mind of the child.
A Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Gentle Art of Learning by Karen Andreola.
A Charlotte Mason Education: A Home Schooling How-To Manual by Catherine Levinson.
When Children Love to Learn: A Practical Application of Charlotte Mason’s Philosophy for Today by Elaine Cooper
The Living Page: Keeping Notebooks with Charlotte Mason by Laurie Bestvater
The Waldorf Method of Homeschooling
The Walford method emphasizes educating the whole child: mind, body, and spirit. Children do not use textbooks, but rather create their own. This method also discourages the use of devices such as computers or televisions. Students focus on one subject at a time, rather than switching multiple times a day. Learning by age is not used, but rather by ability. Early childhood focuses on creative play and hands-on learning, elementary introduces academic instruction and teaches students to increase imagination and manage emotions, and secondary education focuses on critical thinking, empathy, and community service.
Understanding Waldorf Education: Teaching from the Inside Out by Jack Petrash

Leadership/Thomas Jefferson Method of Homeschooling
A Thomas Jefferson or Leadership Education training is based on seven keys to of Great Teaching and the Phases of Learning: Classics (not textbooks), Mentors (not professors), Inspire (not require), Structured Time (not content), Quality (not conformity), Simplicity (not complexity) and You (not them) as the means to providing education. Self-Education is the focus, along with the goal of promoting and inspiring a life-long journey of learning. This method of homeschooling was popularized by the writing and teaching of Oliver and Rachel DeMille.

Montessori Based Homeschooling
Although generally associated with a separate school, the Montessori method focuses on free movement and unstructured time as catalysts to learning. Montessori emphasizes using real tools instead of toys and allowing students real-world situations in which to learn.

Interest-Led Homeschooling
With Interest-Led learning, studies are structured around children’s interests. Sometimes called Delight-Directed, it does require parents to get a little creative with curriculum and move studies to follow whatever the child has grown an interest in. Some parents integrate Interest-Led with traditional curriculum work, and many Interest-Led homeschoolers may use the “Unit Studies” System, where a theme is picked, whether it be a holiday, location, place, or historical events, and students look at many subjects within that theme.

Unschooling
Unschooling is loosely tied with Interest-Led Homeschooling. Unschooling focuses on experiential, activity-based learning. It is a rejection of traditional schooling and uses no curriculum nor does it set aside hours for schooling. The idea is that children will naturally learn all they need to know through their own curiosity and trust is put completely on them for the learning process.

Home-At-School
There is also the Home-At-School method which utilizes a full curriculum either through a public or private school or company. Much of this is computer-reliant, although textbooks are integrated into the learning as well.
That said, many homeschoolers do what is called ‘Relaxed’ or ‘Eclectic’ homeschooling, merging multiple ideas into a style that fits the needs of their individual children.

Books about Books for Homeschoolers
One of the central themes of all the homeschooling methods, including unschooling, is the importance of good books.
Integrating a love of reading and exciting books into any child’s life sets them up for success. Studies show that students who read 20 minutes a day have a 90% likelihood of scoring better than their peers on standardized tests. And one thing an overwhelming majority of very successful adults have in common is a love and active pursuit of reading. The following books are used by homeschoolers to provide guidance on picking books, but any parent and child can benefit from the information they provide.

What other methods might we include in this list? What are your favorite homeschooling or classic books?

White House misconduct. Sensational leaks. Battling broadsheets.
The swirling story around President Trump’s dealings with Russia is being compared in journalism circles to past blockbusters like Watergate and the Monica Lewinsky scandal — with a 21st-century twist.
News organizations like The Washington Post, The New York Times and CNN are jousting for scoops, but instead of sending clerks to grab the early editions from newsstands, editors watch the news unfold on Twitter in real time. Anonymous sources are driving bombshell stories, and leaks are springing from encrypted iPhone messaging apps rather than from meetings in underground parking garages.
The news cycle begins at sunrise, as groggy reporters hear the ping of a presidential tweet, and ends sometime in the overnight hours, as newspaper editors tear up planned front pages scrambled by the latest revelation from Washington. In consequence and velocity, the political developments of the past four weeks are jogging memories of momentous journalistic times.
“There is this sense of urgency and energy that I feel now that reminds me of being 29 and in a very different situation: in the middle of a revolutionary situation in Russia,” said David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker, who was a correspondent for The Washington Post in Moscow during the collapse of the Soviet Union. “I’m not saying it’s a revolution now. But there is this uncertainty about what is happening minute to minute, day to day.”
“There is this sense that every day is going to bring something startling, if not calamitous,” he added.
For journalists anxious about the state of their profession, there is a renewed sense of mission. Newspapers are seeing a sharp rise in subscriptions. Television news, once dismissed as a dinosaur in the internet age, is thriving. Rachel Maddow’s audience on MSNBC is up 79 percent from a year ago, with her show pulling more than two million viewers a night for the past two weeks. On Tuesday, Tucker Carlson of Fox News had more viewers than network hits like “New Girl” and “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
If the routine is energizing, it is also relentless. On Wednesday afternoon, the Atlantic staff writer Rosie Gray wrote on Twitter, “only 9 hours or so till the next massive newsbreak that will prevent us from having lives again.” Hallie Jackson, White House correspondent for NBC News, replied jokingly a minute later — “wuts a life” — to which Ms. Gray replied: “I remember vaguely there was a time when i had one.” By evening, Ms. Gray’s original message had been “liked” more than 850 times.
“The breathless pace of events reminds me of O. J. and Monica days,” said Jeffrey Toobin, who covered the O. J. Simpson murder trial and the scandal involving Ms. Lewinsky for The New Yorker. “The way both journalists and consumers feel kind of overwhelmed by the pace of developments. This feeling of, ‘Well, can’t it just stop for a while?’”
Even people paid to satirize politics find themselves agog. On the Los Angeles set of “Veep,” the HBO parody series with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, writers and cast members rush to learn the latest news between takes. “Everyone’s on their phone,” said Frank Rich, the liberal columnist, who is an executive producer of the series.
The accelerated metabolism is nonpartisan. Many right-leaning news sites are covering every twist of the White House developments and resisting the notion that the administration is embroiled in a major scandal.
“Dear left: When everything is an outrage, nothing is an outrage,” Katie Pavlich, an editor at Townhall, wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, adding of recent developments, “It isn’t Watergate.”
On “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday morning, Fox News hosts took aim at the leakers behind recent scoops. “They’re doing damage to all of us; these are national secrets,” said the anchor Ainsley Earhardt. Her co-host, Steve Doocy, said: “The president, the White House, Congress needs to do something about it.”
Apropos for a president enraptured by reality television, the White House drama has begun to resemble a kind of O. J. Simpson trial for politics, gripping the nation and minting a menagerie of unlikely celebrities.
The Simpson circus had Lance Ito and Robert Shapiro. The Trump administration has Sean Spicer, the press secretary, whose afternoon news briefings now beat “General Hospital” in the Nielsen ratings. For the past two weekends, Mr. Spicer has been featured on “Saturday Night Live” in the form of a Melissa McCarthy impression that is already generating Emmy chatter.
Kellyanne Conway, the White House counselor, was an obscure Republican pollster before her logic-twisting defenses of Mr. Trump on television turned her into a household name. On Wednesday, the MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski said she would no longer interview Ms. Conway on her program, saying, “I don’t believe in fake news or information that is not true.”
What sets the Russia story apart from a typical media frenzy, journalists say, are the underpinnings of the allegations: Russian espionage and election meddling speak to grave questions of democracy and foreign policy. The image of a chaotic White House inner circle evokes troubled administrations in the past. “You have what seems to be a story of Watergate proportions,” Mr. Rich said, “married to this red hot Wild West of the new mediasphere.”
With the news industry in an all-out sprint since Inauguration Day, some journalists wonder if the pace will ever slow. Reporters who put down their smartphones for only a few hours can be dizzied by what they have missed. Mr. Remnick, of The New Yorker, said, “Exhaustion is not an option.”
“If you are already exhausted after three and a half weeks, you better buck up,” he said. “This is going to go on, and it’s going to go on in all kinds of directions.”
