Time to judge Sloane Ross!

My favorite part of the day has arrived and that is time to judge someone and today’s unlucky winner of being judged is Miss Sloane Ross!

Her first post was a very adorable Sloane like post. She posted about her doing a dorky little dance to get Jayce to smile and honestly, it was kind of cute.

Her second post was of her finding a Groot whle at the castle and honestly, I guess if you're a Marvel fan then that's cool.

Her last and final post, is honestly, the only one I care about and makes her last post the best ADITL we have ever done!

She announced she was engaged and congrats to her! It's about damn time Jayce finally asked her!

what did chopin say about baby music? all I was saying is outside of taylor swift 5/4 is used all the time. that’s all I’m saying, relatively it could be unusual but it’s not complicated. Not that important though, just my own nerd pet peeve :)

Sorry, I got snarky. Chopin is a composer of the romantic era, and my point was barely anything in pop music (even the stuff hailed as especially complicated, though maybe not stuff like the ADITL crescendo because that finds its origins in like modern music [a music epoch of the early 20th century] ) would be considered especially musically interesting to him, cause the chords, melodies, and song structures would all be far simpler than what he created.

IDK, I just haven't found 5/4 to be especially common? — it's not the rarest time signature, but I'd call anything outside 4/4, 3/4 or 6/8 (and 12/8 for RnR type stuff) unique enough within rock-pop.

I also think those two songs are interesting because the 5/4 is difficult to count along with, the vocals don't fully suggest it. That might be because I'm not super good at rhythm but it's relatively obvious to me on a song like Take Five.

Hi there!

Pygmalion is a play by George Bernard Shaw, about a woman named Eliza, who wants to learn proper English so that she can get a job in a flower shop. She offers to pay Professor Higgins to teach her. Meanwhile, Colonel Pickering pays Prof. Higgins to teach her, and challenges him to 'present' Eliza as a duchess at the upcoming fancy garden party.

In the context of John, Tara and Paul - there was a clear difference between how John and Paul approached the Old Money folks of London. John had clear distain, while Paul had polite curiousity. Paul was keen to learn and run around and do things that these wealthy established people had access to, and John was very aware of how he was being looked down on by these people.

The Beatles did kindle a kind of relative of respect for those who were working class....but it wasn't always really respect, was it? It was 'cool' but that doesn't necessarily mean there was sincere regard for these people as equals. The first kind of comparison that comes to mind is the way young liberals who are terminally online only interact with black people online as access to Black Thought.

Paul could navigate the scene well, he befriended all sorts of people and soaked up all the knowledge and experiences he could. John was suspicious, hurt and paranoid about many aspects of this intermingling of worlds. (Who could blame him?) This all added to a dislike of Tara.

Given what Pygmalion is about, and how aware everyone at the time was of the class difference between Tara and Paul + John.....it's interesting to think about this gesture in terms of Tara's relationship to them. Tara obviously knew John thouroughly disliked him, and would have understandably been sick of the remarks and eye-daggers being thrown his way. It's up in the air whether this is all just coincidence and Tara just wanted to give John a cool play he read.......or if it was a calculated message about their relationships to each other/on part of what John was so pissed about.......you can decide for yourself :)

As for Paul never really talking in depth about Tara....could be many things but I truly don't know. Paul has talked more about Robert Fraser and other friends who have passed with much more openess and ease than he has talking about Tara, and that could mean or not mean anything. I do think Paul was genuinely close to Tara, and shared something genuine and special and worth treasuring. Tara was the one Paul chose to have his first experience with LSD with, and Tara took care of him during it. Tara opened up worlds to Paul, and they shared love of art and life together. Paul taking Tara home to Liverpool was something of note, too, I don't think Paul did that for too many of his new friends in London. Paul keeps certain special things close to his chest, and that's more than understandable, given how many of his relationships are picked apart by the general public for entertainment and speculation - particularly the most special ones of all.

Y’all ngl I haven’t gotten around to watching Sacrifice yet because I simply lack the emotional structure for all that pilots tomfoolery (also as as a Kara stan it’s straight up not a good time, especially once s3 kicks in).

So, instead of watching, I did THIS: a timeline! it’s mostly WILD SPECULATION because of the timeline discontinuity issue with season 2, but I think it overall makes sense? Kinda helps put stuff in perspective, at least.

Many thanks to the wiki for having its own timeline compiled, so all I really had to do was try to fill in the gaps for science. 

THAT SAID: I didn’t add much pre-mini stuff because by all accounts it doesn’t make sense, especially how familiar Kara and Lee are with each other if they’d only had spent a weekend together or so (as the story bible establishes) -- how is it familiar that Lee finds her in the brig during the mini? we-just-don’t-know.gif. 

Dates and episode titles between brackets indicate that the information is purely speculative and based on extrapolation. 

Second thing: this timeline is centered on pilots generally because I wanted a better sense of the time frame I was working with for fix-it fic purposes. As such, this timeline also doesn’t go past the events of Maelstrom.

Moon Beings Is The Latest Indie Beauty Brand To Open A Retail Concept

“Retail is very saturated, people are looking for less cost, more accessible products,” says Tritt. “Even though I do have a higher-end product that is at a very accessible price, it’s not something that wholesalers, at least the wholesalers that I’m dealing with, want. They’re just buying your product versus somebody else’s product. It’s very hard to convince people. The whole plan this year was retail and indirectly building my DTC, but that philosophy is, I wouldn’t say it’s becoming antiquated, but it’s quickly changing.”

Moon Beings founder Melanie Tritt

Tritt decided to pivot. She didn’t give up on brick-and-mortar retail but opted to create her own retail space rather than depend on others to clear it for her. In March, Tritt opened a 1,600-square-foot retail location in Temecula, Calif., where she lives. She describes the location as a “collaborative installment.” It incorporates a yoga studio, treatment room, and common area, where Moon Beings’ facial skincare ranging from about $20 to $60 are displayed.

Health and well-being teachers and service partners are invited to partner with Moon Beings for short- and long-term engagements in space. Tritt estimates that the aesthetics alone cost about $10,000. “What I did was negotiated for aesthetics against rent,” she says.

Moon Beings joins a burgeoning cohort of indie beauty brands that have established retail outposts across the country for a variety of reasons, including control of their distribution and margin. Opening a store became particularly attractive after the pandemic emerged in the United States because rental rates decreased. Retail spaces also enable brands to market to their communities directly rather than depend on digital advertising characterized by lofty costs of customer acquisition.

Temecula is uniquely positioned to have an inventive indie retail scene thrive. About 113,000 people reside in Riverside County city, but visitors swell its daily population. Known for its wineries and outdoor recreation, people from throughout Southern California flock to it. “We get 3.1 million visitors that come through here going to two areas,” says Tritt. “If they’re going to the winery when they’re done, they’re going to dinner and then an area called Old Town, which is a really cute walking street, about seven blocks long, equivalent to four New York City blocks. It’s packed with a lot of great stuff.”

Moon Beings’ bestsellers are its Watermelon Moon and Celestial C serums.

The idea of opening a store in Temecula initially occurred to Tritt in 2018, when she moved to the city from Los Angeles and began developing Moon Beings. Prior to opening the Moon Beings store, she connected with retailers in Old Town that carried her brand’s products either via a traditional wholesale agreement or revenue sharing, and business at those retailers helped convince her a Moon Beings store would be viable. “I wasn’t even doing any marketing for it. It just was flying off the shelf,” she says. “I thought, ‘This is really interesting.’”

In the month's Moon Beings’ shop has been open, Tritt shares bestsellers at it are Moon Beings’ $58 Watermelon Moon Oil Serum packed with meadowfoam, blueberry seed, and Kalahari oils, and its $42 Celestial C Serum powered by squalane and blood orange. Tritt has restocked the store three times since March, and the brand’s sales both in the store and out of it have increased 40% since the opening, validating the location’s ability to boost Moon Beings’ overall presence.
