Art advice from someone who needs art advice but the specific kind that only I know how to give
A 2am write up by a burnt out artist with nothing better to do :)
Okay so let’s rate the typical tutorials people will look up (generalized)
Anatomy
Features (hair, eyes, lips, etc)
Bodies (in terms of shape)
Anatomy is one of the MOST IMPORTANT things when drawing!! It comes before stylizing and basic features - you need to know anatomy before you branch off into your own style! (Take as long as you need. I started out without any knowledge regarding anatomy - it’s how it goes. You’re never perfect.)
Second to anatomy is FEATURES! Eyes, hair, lips, clothes/folds, shading - those are second. I once asked a professional painter how she got things so perfect, and she said she would just repeat what she needed to understand. She filled an entire sketchbook with eyes, another with lips, another with hair, and so on. (She additionally did this with anatomy - one for hands, one for feet - then onto more complex shapes with heads, arms/legs, torsos). She would then fill an entire sketchbook with everything added together - basically she would redraw puzzle pieces until they ‘fit’.
Now, body shape is a rather stigmatized thing in the community of young and growing artists. I’m sure you have seen the classic ‘women are round/men are square’ or the ‘hourglass vs. rectangle shape’ or the ‘girl eyes vs. boy eyes’. While I do believe these help with basic anatomy skills and helps artists convey the cookie cutter gender alignments, you need to remember that boys have eyelashes and girls can be square. Don’t be too worried about conveying yourself properly! It comes with practice!
REMEMBER! Learning is a mess! You can learn in so many ways - I’m still learning, Picasso was still learning, that two year old with crayons is still learning.
Find your own rhythm. It’s frustrating and you’ll cry and the pictures in your head won’t come out as beautifully as you imagined, but you need to realize that not all tutorials work for every person, and that you don’t need to hyper fixate on a singular piece of advice from one artist.
There’s no holy grail of knowledge on how to make things look ‘good’. Time and patience and lots of crying is the only grail you’ll get - and that’s okay! It’s okay to rip your paper and throw your book and scribble over something and throw something out. It’s okay to give up and do something else, it’s okay to discard an idea you really liked, it’s okay to never get to an idea you really liked.
It’s okay to say that you can’t, but you need to also think that you’ll be able to someday. ‘I can’t, but someday’ gives you something to look forwards to. I cant colour clouds the best, but someday I will and boy howdy they’ll be tasteful.
HOW DO I GET INSPIRATION?
This is something specific to me - it doesn’t have to be followed religiously. But I like to watch things. Sometimes a mild existential crisis brings me ideas (I.e. wow, I’m here and breathing and the universe is expanding a billion times over but I’m touching scratchy grass rn and the temperature is just right and look at the fuzz on that bee). Recognize the things around you and how you’re present to recognize it.
Visualize the colour wheel! Where would damp grass sit? A blush on the skin? A honey bee’s yellow? One of the most surprising things I’ve found from colour picking is that purple clouds in an orange sunset almost always get picked out as grey. Lighting is important to your colours and you need to consider that! Sunset grass is different from morning grass!?
I’ve also found that watching people’s sped up art processes have helped me develop. You get to watch their ways of blocking in shapes and making things look natural, no matter what style it’s in.
WHAT DO I DO IF IM IN AN ART BLOCK??? HELP??????
Do a daily doodle. I know you want to draw that masterpiece you have in your head and the pencil just won’t work and maybe you just suck - no, open a notebook book or file, and draw something simple. Something to smile at. A frog, a flower, an eye, a stupid face, a dinosaur - draw with the aim of satisfying your need to put pencil on paper. Write your masterpiece idea down for later. It can wait.
Just remember that all tutorials are to help you grow and not for you to base your entire art life on.
If you don’t like how you draw your eyes, try something else you come up with. Don’t like your shapes? Try something different. It won’t hurt you, it won’t make you stop drawing. If you mess up on something new you’re trying, that won’t end your hopes and dreams, even if it may smush them. (I try so goddamn hard with my clouds that I can’t even begin to explain how badly I NEED TO GET IT RIGHT)
It’s not easy! You’ll hate everything you do!
But I think the moment you draw something, even if it’s a tiny part of the piece, and you say ‘huh. what a pretty thing.’
That is what you’re supposed to aim for. Creators usually see nothing truly beautiful in their pieces, so relax, go with the flow.

Everything seems a little dark and scary at the moment, so I have complied a list of links to cultural and/or educational things (and some just streams of cute animals, or just plain fun) that are available to watch or listen to or do for free (mostly) online. Some of these will only work for the duration of the current situation (marked with a *), but most are permanent (so far as I know) so can be kept around for a little bit of sunshine on a rainy day.
Feel free to add to this with your own links or ideas, and remember, we’ll get through this together (with the appropriate social distancing). Follow the advice that’s been given, wash your hands, and be kind to one another.

January’s Featured Game: Tales From Toppletown
DEVELOPER(S): Leirin ENGINE: RPGMaker 2003 GENRE: Quest-based RPG, Comedy SUMMARY: As a reclusive critter living in the woods, your roommate Pip one day urges you to head into town and meet new people. But there exists a strange giant lurking in the mountains to the north...could this be a friend, or a looming threat?
Our Interview With The Dev Team Below The Cut!
Introduce yourself! Hello! I'm Leirin - a freelance illustrator looking to get into the fine arts. I love video games very much and this is my first time trying my hand at them. Hopefully there will be more to come!
Tumblr media
What is your project about? What inspired you to create your game initially? *Leirin: I really liked the sort of "mental snapshot" aspect of games like Pen Pals, Very Pink Game, etc - and wanted to create something that was short, but warm and personal, too. Illustration can feel difficult to immerse people in, so giving them something directly interactive like a game is very challenging, but so far rewarding.
How long did you work on your project? *Leirin: Work began in late spring of 2018, so almost a year! (With many, many breaks to do other things along the way.)
Tumblr media
Did any other games or media influence aspects of your project? *Leirin: I loved the Hamtaro games for the GameBoy and wanted to implement the format of interwoven character quests. The game's map is fairly small and confined, but I hoped it could still feel lively and populated like the areas in those games do. I also love For Frogs the Bell Tolls and it influenced a lot of the overworld graphics.
Have you come across any challenges during development? How have you overcome or worked around them? *Leirin: I use a Mac, so everything has had to be run through Wine - which has its hiccups! Mainly, copying and pasting doesn't seem to work?? So if text needs to be repeated, I have to manually type it all over again. In the future, I might like to look into something more efficient, but even with the hurdles, I'm happy with how things are turning out. The other obstacle is just the fact that I am doing this all by myself, minus my two excellent composers, so it can be easy to feel overwhelmed! Just take breaks, and work on other things too - it'll help keep creative juices fresh for your project.
Did any aspects of your project change over time? How does your current project differ from your initial concept? *Leirin: There were a few points where I wanted to increase the scope of the game - I considered having battles and a more involved story at one point - but I knew that if I turned my first project into something really big, it just wouldn't get finished. So for the most part, it's been about sticking to the original vision of a short, whimsical game.
Tumblr media
What was your team like at the beginning? How did people join the team? If you don’t have a team, do you wish you had one or do you prefer working alone? *Leirin: The only other people on my project are my two composers - it was initially only Dustin van Wyk, then Twinkle Park joined the project and I am so thrilled with the music they both have written for the game. Indirectly, but I have also asked friends to contribute a few characters/character designs, as I wanted this to feel like a diverse town of people. I really love what they've come up with!
What was the best part of developing the game? *Leirin: Playtesting it. There's something a little unreal about interacting with your own creations, even if they just do everything exactly as you planned. (Well, if you programmed it right!)
Tumblr media
Do you find yourself playing other RPG Maker games to see what you can do with the engine, or do you prefer to do your own thing? *Leirin: Yes, I do. It can feel limiting at times but when I play the other terrific things made with 2003, I realize it's still got a lot of potential in it. I'm really looking forward to the new Melon Journey that's coming out, which looks amazing!
Which character in your game do you relate to the most and why? (Alternatively: Who is your favorite character and why?) *Leirin: Most relatable--Waffle Boy, who is malnourished and miserable from exclusively eating food from his workplace. As for favorite...she must stay a secret for now!
Tumblr media
Looking back now, is there anything that regret/wish you had done differently? *Leirin: There are maybe certain graphical aspects that are a little too plain/pedestrian that I would do more efficiently if I were starting the game now, but I think for a first project it looks pretty ok. What matters most is getting it done.
Do you plan to explore the game’s universe and characters further in subsequent projects, or leave it as-is? *Leirin: Everything I create more or less exists nebulously in a shared space I've termed the "Fluorescent Zone". Everyone and everything is connected, but not always directly. I might create additional material for Toppletown after its release if people want it - detailed character profiles, for instance - but otherwise, if the characters resurface, they will probably be in very different roles.
With your current project, what do you look most forward to upon/after release? *Leirin: I just really hope the game puts a smile on people's faces. It's a very simple and concise experience, but knowing that someone downloaded it and spent an enjoyable afternoon with it, or laughed at something in it, is valuable to me. And of course, I do hope people will draw fan art - receiving fan art makes me ecstatic!
Tumblr media
Is there something you’re afraid of concerning the development or the release of your game? *Leirin: Again, some of the complications with creating the game from a Mac do make me worry on the technical side of things. There's also the usual catastrophes like everything getting destroyed in a fire or my laptop getting stolen, but that's the usual faire.
Do you have any advice for upcoming devs? *Leirin: Don't get too ambitious if you're approaching something new. Simple can still be really good and finishing something gives you the confidence to aim higher next time.
Question from last month's featured dev @torch60: What is the one biggest impression you want to leave on your players when they finish your game? *Leirin: A caring person is always nearer than you think.
Tumblr media
We mods would like to thank Leirin for agreeing to our interview! We believe that featuring the developer and their creative process is just as important as featuring the final product. Hopefully this Q&A segment has been an entertaining and insightful experience for everyone involved!
Remember to check out Tales From Toppletown if you haven’t already! See you next month!

--
You wake up to the sight of Jihoon’s back. And you are a mix of candy floss and gutter water. The latter dominates.
Well, you guess gutter water is a much better breakfast than a bowl of frogs.
You separate yourself from the bed to clean up a little. In the process, you find yourself inspecting the two toothbrushes in the glass, white for Jihoon and blue for you, he told you last night. As you brush your teeth, you can’t tear your eyes away from the white toothbrush, your mind giving the owner a visit. You wonder whether you’ve been very demanding. And you wonder why Jihoon’s been very pliant to your wants. The thought follows you to the kitchen as you prepare one of Jihoon’s favorite meals for breakfast.
Considering how busy your head is, in addition to your still-imperfect hand and shoulder, you finish the dish in record time. You take a lunchbox from the kitchen cabinet and fill it with Kimchi fried rice. You don’t realize you were doing it until you set the breakfast and the lunchbox atop the dining table. Little do you know, that lunchbox is meant for Jaemin. His class ends before lunch, but he always complains about the cafeteria foods. He once said that they are so below his standard, which is determined by his least favorite food that you make—which is anything contains broccoli. Since then you always pack him lunch or snack to eat on his break. And apparently, your body seems to fall back into that habit, even if you don’t remember having it.
“Oh, you remember?” Jihoon emerges out of nowhere with a question that you assume was born from the sight of food you laid on the table.
“Uh? This? You guys have always requested this for breakfast,” you answer, reminding him of the fact that you used to cook for him and his members whenever you could.
“Oh, right.”
He takes a seat in front of you as you serve him his rice. You notice that he keeps eyeing the lunchbox even after he said his thank you. You want to say something about it, but you don’t know what. So you just watch him and eat in silence. As if on cue, the silence is interrupted right after Jihoon places down his chopsticks by the ring of his cellphone. He frowns when he sees the contact name lighting his screen before he excuses himself from the table. You don’t even nod, still watching him quietly—observing.
When Jihoon comes back to help you clean up, you ask, “Do you have to go?” After you hear your own question, you feel like some whiny kids. “I mean… You can go if you have to.”
Jihoon halts on his way to place the plates to the sink. “No, I told them I’ll send everything they need through email. I’ll deal with things from home,” he said as he continues his steps, answering you without catching your searching eyes.
You know that the company doesn’t fully support the idea. You saw that in Jihoon’s face when he hung up the phone. And you know that his staying home working is not that much different from him being in the company building. Company studio or home studio, they’re all the same. “You can go, really. Don’t… Don’t worry about me.”
He is silent—calculating, you guess.
“Here.” You take the lunchbox and give it to him. “I’ll clean up. Go, they’re expecting you.”
Jihoon eyes the lunchbox again. He’s been looking at it throughout breakfast. He’s figured it’s for him, but you shouldn’t have any idea that he needs to go out before the phone call. You shouldn’t know that someone’s expecting him in his studio. Unless you did not know, yet you have expected him to be gone in the first place.
“Thank you,” he murmurs, taking the lunchbox from you. “I’ll take a quick shower first.”
And then I’ll be gone if that’s what you want.
Jihoon comes out of the meeting late in the afternoon with a sour mood. The CEO was plastering him with how he needs to be more responsible a second after he expressed his sympathy towards what’s happening to his wife. Jihoon can’t understand. It’s true that he hasn’t finished the previous plan, but his total submission should’ve been enough for at least two more comebacks, and yet he already has a new comeback plan shoved onto his plate.
He wishes he had stayed home instead. The company is easier to deal with when he doesn’t have to face them directly. He runs his finger through his hair in agitation. It seems to him like that’s one of the only emotions he’s left with after your accident—or maybe even before that. He feels like a bomb waiting for someone to press the detonation button or pick the wrong wire. And he might know just who that someone’s going to be.
“Why are you here?” Soonyoung asks him, every syllable of his words is laced with something more like venom rather than curiosity. “She’s just back, what… yesterday? Do you forget that this was exactly what made her end up in the hospital?”
Jihoon refuses to match Soonyoung’s fervor and answers matter-of-factly, “She’s okay with me going back to work. There are a lot of things I need to take care of anyway.”
“Is she really?”
“Yes, she’s kind of the one who told me to go. I was just going to use the home studio, but she told me to go.” His tone is defensive, but Soonyoung won’t accept that.
“And you just agree? Why do I feel like you want to get away from her? That’s what you’ve been doing since as long as I can remember,” he scoffs, and Jihoon doesn’t say anything, drawing out a sigh from the older man. “Why are you like this?”
And the bomb goes off.
“Why am I like this? You know nothing, Soonyoung! Nothing! She asked me to go. Maybe she also wants to get away from me. She even has my lunch packed! How do you think I feel? Huh?” Jihoon is tired of the blames he put on himself. He doesn’t need his members to do the same—to say the same things he’s been repeating in his head, to ask the same questions he’s not capable of answering. He needs the answers from you. He needs to know what to do, what you want. He needs to know that you want him, as much as he does. But he can’t even ask you that. Not when it’s obvious to him just what your answer is.
“I know what you’re like, you fool,” Soonyoung says, reeling Jihoon’s attention back to him. “You’re waiting. She’s waiting. And this waiting game won’t end if nobody does something. You guys used to understand each other, just like that. No words, no nothing”— Soonyoung places his hands on Jihoon’s shoulders—“You are my best friend, but so is she. And she’s hurting. You think you’re the only one who’s miserable from her amnesia? She is, too. And we are, too. She’s waiting for you. After all this time, that’s what she does,” he pauses and lets out another sigh when Jihoon refuses to look at him. “Don’t you love her?”
Jihoon’s head snaps up at Soonyoung’s question, searching for his eyes, before he nods weakly.
“Then fucking own it! All she ever does is loving and taking care of you. You said you’re sorry, but that’s all! Fucking do something about it, Jihoon. There are other people who’re willing to take your place, and the only thing preventing them from doing so is that it’s fucking obvious you’re the one for her. You know better than anyone what happened with her ex, and now you’re doing just the same.
“Is she dying the only acceptable reason for guys like you to tear yourself from work? To pay her any attention? I fucking swore I’ll beat you up if you ever hurt her, and I would’ve. But Seungkwan stopped me because only the sight of you sleeping beside her made her smile for a whole week. She’s happy with you”—he then scoffs—“on the rare occasion that you’re actually home. You said you want to make up for everything, then do it. She’s alive, Jihoon. And in her current state, she still manages to remember that she loves you—she loves you. You’re fucking lucky, you know that? Go, that house is your home, not this building or your studio. Go home, Jihoon.”
Jihoon is following Soonyoung’s advice by walking straight to the elevator on the lobby, but before he even enters the slow-working confinement, someone stops him. “Jihoon-ah! I’m sorry that CEO Han’s being insensitive to your case, and, uh, I pr-probably is about to do the same right now. I, uh, I was asked to arrange a meeting for you and, uh“—Jihoon is tapping his foot, plainly irritated to the man’s way of speaking—“it’s going to be in two hours from now,” the man finally finishes. He is Mr. Kim, the manager of Pledis’ new boygroup whose comeback they were discussing in their previous meeting.
Jihoon furrows his eyebrows and answers shortly, “I’m going to go home.”
“Ji-Jihoon-ah! Wait!” The man grabs for Jihoon’s hand to stop him from getting into the elevator. “They’re preparing for their mini concert these two weeks. There’s no other time. They’re already on their way here from a fansign. I was already not there with them to settle this comeback issue here. So, please, let me keep my job.” Jihoon looks at him in apprehension.
He really doesn’t like to be the reason for someone’s unemployment. So he gives in with a sigh, “Can they be here in thirty minutes? Or an hour? I really need to be home early.”
Mr. Kim stutters, “B-but they’re coming from Wonju, it’ll take them at least an hour and fifteen minutes. And- And I thought you might want to eat lunch first. I-“
“I don’t care about lunch. Just… Send them the rough comeback plan and ask them to study it on the way. I want this one to be a quick meeting. I’ll be in my studio. Call me as soon as they’re here.”
“O-okay.”
Waiting for time to pass without doing anything turns out to be such a pain in his arse. Jihoon tried to write, but his mind’s only capable of generating words full of sap and desperation. So he stopped. He’s been toying with the phone in his hand, pondering what would happen if he calls you. He feels ridiculous, like he’s back in his twenties. He’s about to jump into the pool of reminiscence, but a knock in the door yanks him away from the edge just before his feet leave the ground.
He opens the door to the face of one Mr. Kim. “I’m- I’m sorry, the boys are here.”
Jihoon doesn’t understand why Mr. Kim is always so nervous around him, and even after the meeting finishes roughly three hours later, the man keeps on apologizing profusely to him, going as far as walking Jihoon down to his car in the basement. He drives away as he watches Mr. Kim’s waving hand grows smaller and smaller in size.
It’s almost ten when he arrives home to you walking back and forth near the kitchen and biting your nails anxiously. Jihoon never gets the chance to process the growl in his stomach or the fact that he forgot his untouched lunchbox in his studio until the delicious smell of your food reaches his nose. He also never gets the chance to process the fleeting seconds between him catching your eyes to when you’re catching his body in an embrace.
“You’re home,” you whisper into his chest.
“Hey, baby, what’s wrong?” Jihoon doesn’t even notice the pet name coming out of his lips as he circles his arms around you tightly, relishing every nanosecond and willing it to stretch to infinity. His heart gears into overdrive, and he’s dizzy from the rush.
“Nothing,” you answer, your voice small. “I just… I just thought…”
It’s not nothing.
For most of the day, you’ve been in the Haven, trying to read books in one sitting and salvage your withering plants. You didn’t remember those poor plants from your short tour, too excited to swallow everything in you forgot to revel on the taste of details. In the middle of mending your white primrose, you noticed two circles of dirt on the table, indicating two missing pots. You paused your action and frowned, eyes roaming around the perimeter until you spotted two broken pots around one corner of the greenhouse, the plants have long since died.
You cleaned the mess with the broom and dustpan you found in storage that’s also filled with your gardening equipment. Lily of the valley, you thought as you picked up what’s left of the previously beautiful flower. The structure of the carcass was very telling, and the flower itself is held very close to your heart for you not to recognize it.
And then you heard it.
A shriek so raw and agonizing that you dropped the flower and jumped at the sound of it. It woke the wasps inside your stomach, and you staggered backward, eyes wide and hands trembling. Another sound followed: something solid met the concrete and broke. You placed one of your hands on your chest, a vain attempt to control your heart and lungs, and the other groped behind you for the table’s foot. Once you had a grip around it, you slumped down and leaned on it for support. Someone wailed as you hugged yourself. Then you saw a pot flying from behind you, and you closed your eyes and screamed. Timidly, you opened your eyes and saw that it had missed the corner where the brick wall meets the glass, falling on top of the already-broken pot.
It’s white, the lilies of the valley.
You shuddered as the vision plays again and again. The woman screamed and screamed repeatedly, her agony permeating your skin, and you spluttered your pleas. “Stop. Please, s-stop. Please.” It took all of your willpower to control your breathing. You prayed for you to breathe and for her to stop, and suddenly you’re in the living room. You gasped and tightened your grip on the table’s foot until your knuckles turned white, the room was spinning. You’re sitting down, but you’re falling. Then you heard another voice intercepted the woman’s voice, lighting a candle through your fogged mind. You took solace in that small fire once you’re able to label the owner of the voice. “J-Jihoon…” you whimpered. You saw his back walking away from you, so you tried once again, “Ji…” But his response was the slam of the door that took away the oxygen and fire within you.
And you became one with that woman in the harmony of agony.
“Y/n?” Jihoon coos, his hands already cupping your face without your knowledge. And you back away in surprise.
“I’m- I’m sorry“—you clear your throat—“Let-let’s just eat.”

How to Get a 1st Date
Although what is effective for some  people  might not  benefit others,  often it is needed to  seek  brand-new dating advice for women write for us. However there are  specific basic  techniques that can be  made use of that can  assist  attain  the most effective results.
You  believe heard the cliches about kissing frogs  in this field.  Something that  does not do  any type of  excellent, is  responsible your past  partnerships, or yourself.
It  is very important  to keep in mind that the future holds  ratings of  choices.  Heading out to a bar or club is an  choice to meet  brand-new  individuals,  and also can  actually be a  good time.  Typically, the problem with  clubs is that they can be loud so it can be  challenging to  obtain a  discussion begun.  Considering that  close friends are  most likely to be there also, this can make the  communication  frustrating.  Bench scene can  certainly  obtain trying, and it  makes good sense that lots of people don't like it.
For  guys, it is  reputable to make the  initial  action.  Despite constantly  altering gender  duties, the  very first  action continues to be in the man's court.  Regrettably,  males are  frequently not as  certain about someone's signals, so they can be more  worried  regarding being the one to call.
One of the most  typical advice  claims to wait three days to call. It is  absolutely arguable whether it is  truly a  great  suggestion to wait this long, but it  would certainly  offer  individuals a  opportunity to  manuscript a  discussion  as well as allow them to  consider whether they  ought to  contact the first place.
An additional good way to  satisfy  individuals is taking  night or  dancing  courses.  Along with  understand  even more  people, this  will certainly  aid  offer you  much more social experiences  therefore more to have a discussion  regarding when you  eventually do go out on a  day.  An additional  excellent  choice is joining a  entertainment theater or singing group,  due to the fact that they can  help in easing social  anxiousness. Keeping fit and  showing off activities can help keep a  great body  as well as  allow for more social communication. If you don't take pleasure in going to the gym, try a  complete body exercise like martial arts. The grown-up courses have individuals from different histories, which gives you, even more, to talk around.
Tumblr media
When it comes to someone not returning your telephone call, then it is time to intend that they just were not thinking about you.  Denial draws,  yet this isn't the time to or start whimpering to pals or stop dating completely. It never feels good to be declined,  however, bear in mind that there is no plot against you.  Maintain calling other people and also obtaining dates with them.
If you maintain setting out,  do not panic. Try to consider options that you have not checked yet. This is a  great time to start any kind of new hobby you've intended to attempt.  Talking in public can assist supercharge confidence and also do away with shyness. The even more things you attempt, the more likely you are to complete something.
It is useful not to assume in terms of pick/chat up lines (e.g. "did you fall from heaven, because you look like an angel"). Think in terms of strategy circumstances. If you remain in an art gallery,  speak about the artwork.  Try to expand your horizons and be well-read on a  combination of different topics. Attempt to talk enough, but not overly so, that you eclipse the conversation.

What would be the perfect 12 person session, and would your classpect be apart of it?
Well! Here’s a basic rundown, followed by my reasoning behind them all:
Mage of Space, Knight of Rage, Thief of Breath, Sylph of Blood, Seer of Mind, Heir of Light, Maid of Hope, Witch of Doom, Prince of Void, Bard of Heart, Rogue of Time, Page of Life
x
You need to have a Space player and a Knight, almost immediately. It’s imperative to have both in order to breed the Frogs, but I don’t think combining both into one is a good idea (a Knight of Space would mean a lack of Space in the session, which is definitely bad).
What you really want, I think, is a Knight of Rage. A session that lacks Rage is a session that lacks negativity; it’s also a session with one hell of a fighter. Can you imagine someone who exploits Rage? Someone jacked up with adrenaline at all times, paranoid and fearful and anxious and living on the edge, never able to be taken down because they are always prepared, always cautious - and always able to send their enemies into a blind Rage that makes them easy pickings for everyone else.
Helping with the Frogs would require a Space player that’s more active than passive as a result. A Knight in my eyes is the passive player, though a Knight of Rage would be furious enough to lead the charge in any situation; so a dangerous quest for Frogs seems ideal. Having a Mage of Space - someone who knows literally everything there is to know about Space, beginnings, creation, pretty much the very core of SBURB and how to create the frogs almost off the bat - would be perfect in this situation, then.
Next, lets think about the Thief. As I said in an earlier post, I think a Thief represents what a session has too much of, as a way of replicating what a Knight shows a session lacks. It’s the active-passive binary that draws me to it so much, honestly. So what would you want a session to have too much of? Breath. Too many options, too much freedom, too much movement and flexibility - yes, it comes with too much detachment, but I have a solution for that, too. If we say that the Thief represents the concept of too much choice and freedom, then surely that means they’re guaranteed for success? That final end, the final reward, is the biggest freedom of them all! And it means there are several paths they could take to get there; really, all they need to do is figure out which path they like best and go down it.
So, how do you counteract the Thief’s representation of too much detachment? Sylph of Blood. Someone who is there to heal those broken frayed bonds, to keep everyone together, someone who spends their time ensuring everyone has someone else - they are essentially the glue that keeps the group together. A Sylph of Blood is a stubborn and compelling person to have in a team that might face division; in the end, they’d definitely strengthen the bonds of the team to such a degree that everyone was friends on such deeply profound terms that they’d act a bit like a closed group, needing nobody but each other and being happy for it.
Now, I said that because of the Thief, there’d also be a lot of options the players could work with, right? So naturally the best options to go for from here are the Mind and the Light players!
A Seer of Mind would be crucial for this session; someone who can see all the options laid before them, and direct the entire group down to the most beneficial path; guiding them, coercing them encouraging them, until eventually they even act themself and take a physical role in ensuring the team succeeds. There are plenty of ways they could do this, and essentially their goal is to do so in the most cost effective way possible. It would just make it easier on everyone else - especially with all of that freedom - to have someone to guide them, someone who can see what everyone will do and drift them towards whatever might be the best course of action.
An Heir of Light would be a good companion to the Seer of Mind. While the Seer takes care of the options, the Heir takes care of the information. They are pretty much drawn to information, to things of importance; they might stumble into a cave and just so happen to find something that ends up being crucial to their session. They’d analyse every piece of information the players uncover, and come up with the answer to the Ultimate Riddle in no time flat. Heck, they might even contact their Denizen well before they’re meant to, and complete their quest the fastest out of any of them, having understood through hints from the Consorts just what they were meant to do! Though they do have the issue of hyperfocusing on topics well beyond what they’re meant to, the Seer will help guide them back to a more useful path.
A Maid of Hope might be pretty useful, too! Though they’d start out a victim to the Sylph’s fussing and meddling, and suffer a severe setback due to it, they have plenty of time and the guidance of the Seer to help them figure out the path they’re meant to steer more towards - or perhaps just the aid of the Seer to get the Sylph off their back. Once they really come into their own, you’d have a session bursting with Hope. Joy, good feelings, love, positivity, the belief that they can do anything - the Maid can do it all. They can even help bring the group closer together if they believe in their abilities together enough, but most amazingly of all they can create whatever they truly believe in and make it real. So if the Maid truly, wholeheartedly believes that they’re all going to succeed and beat the game? Then by all means, that game is going to be beaten.
Next up, I think a Witch of Doom would pretty much be a requirement. While Witches rebel against their nature, and yes that means this one would rebel againast Doom, they also actively control it. Imagine a session where the Witch decides what does and doesn’t form a Doomed timeline, what does and doesn’t constitute a Doomed self. A session where the rules are made to be broken, where the concept of Prospit and Derse can be bent and twisted into something wholly beneficial. This might actually make the battle against the final bosses a doddle; something akin to how the trolls did their session, but with the ability to take out both monarchs and maybe even to unite Prospit and Derse under the universal banner of Skaia. No isn’t an answer to this Witch; if they want it to happen, it damn well will. Of course, morality is a big issue with Witches, but the Sylph and Seer will both ensure they don’t take it too far.
A Prince of Void could be a potentially positive influence on the players of the session, particularly in context of the Knight and Page. They destroy any secrecy, any hidden information and any lack of importance; they destroy the idea of meaninglessness and the concept of confusion or doubt. What better way for a Page to learn something than for the Prince to snarl it out in their face, give them something to chew over for a bit before trying, going beyond the advice of the Sylph and really pushing themself to do their best? What better way for anyone in the session to realise how important they are as part of the group than to have the Prince doggedly remind them of the machine that they’re part of, the role they’re going to take at the end? It might be overwhelming, yes, and I have no doubt some of the players would fear the Prince’s truths - and might also fear the Prince’s inability to keep any sort of secret - but being forced to see their own secrets is important, too. A Knight who realises they aren’t lacking, that they’re just filled with worries that have no logical basis, is a Knight who can progress much faster than usual. The Prince thus not only acts as an aid to the Heir of Light, but also as a way for faster development to occur in everyone else!
Surprising as it is, I think a Bard of Heart would be beneficial for the team. They need something to go wrong, someone to be some sort of challenge to them, to test their capabilities as a group and make several of the members interact with one another. A Bard of Heart would be good at this; someone who is initially laid back, allowing others to cover up their Heart, their personality, their Soul with their own loud voices, someone who is distanced and logical and rational to a fault. Someone who is unbiased and relaxed, going with whoever wants to take the lead at the time. Their Bard split would cause them to explode with emotion, to be ruled by their feelings beyond reason, to being so overwhelmingly passionate for something that they can barely handle it. The Prince would likely be the reason this event happens, revealing something the Bard didn’t want revealed, and the Sylph, Seer, and Maid would likely be the ones that have to carefully put back together the pieces of the Bard. It would be messy, oh hell it’d be messy, but it would open the eyes of the Prince to realise that they have to be careful with what they say, that their destruction can really hurt people, and it would challenge the people around them to scramble to help. Also? Imagine an irrational Bard of Heart running around screaming while everyone else seems to have some part to play in the grand scheme of things. It’s that little bit of weirdness every session needs.
Following this, a Rogue of Time would be a good addition. This session has so much going for it, someone who struggles with the concept of The End, but eventually comes to understand that it’s not actually something to be scared about, would help edge everyone closer and closer to the final reward. A Rogue stealing Time to give everyone else a chance to breathe, to work on what they need to, to recover from everything that’s happened, to enjoy their good times - it’s what they need to keep the session going, to stop everyone from falling apart under the stress of it all. The Rogue, too, needs to learn that you can enjoy those moments even if you know it all has to end - can enjoy those moments even more because of it - and in general that would make the experience of SBURB a significantly more pleasant one. People would still have the Time to develop, to grow, to be themselves - and it would stop them from rushing through the session so blindingly fast that they beat the game before they can learn what they’re all meant to.
Which leaves the Page of Life! I’ll admit, this one came down to last man standing, but Rogue of Time fit so well that this is what we have left. A Page of Life means initial struggles, yes, but also a powerful player with a wealth of… well, just about everything. Money, ambition, growth, Life itself - at the end of the day, the Page of Life gets it all, and encourages the others around them to take part as well. It limits the harm the Sylph can really do, since a Page of Light struggles with temptations and, well, the Sylph might actually help with that! Reminding them of the importance of their bonds and ensuring their bonds with the rest of the group are strengthened will probably lead the Page to a slightly earlier development. Still late compared to everyone else, yes, but earlier than most Pages would see. This is the person of the group who clumsily hoards every item of value until they finally figure out what it’s all for, and then puts each one to perfect use. Plus, this goes again with the concept of breaking rules - so someone the Witch might get on well with, and someone who could reign them in! If nothing else, the Page might act as the moral example the Witch follows, seeing them progress from someone who bumbles through power and wealth as the underdog, bound to the rules but pretending that they’re free of them, before actually breaking through - breaking the rules, but without destroying them entirely. It would be good to balance the Witch out, I think, and prevent any catastrophic issues.
And after all of that, to answer your last question; nope! My classpect isn’t there at all. I’m a Page of Hope, which I did consider, but not in enough depth to really choose for the list.

Friendom Advice (updated)
Remember this? Pretty sure it’s about time we updated it a bit, considering all the new fans we have due to recent events!
To start from the top, here’s some advice that might be helpful to the now-budding Andi Mack fandom:
-Yes, you can ship characters together -That can include het couples, gay couples, poly couples, etc. -But, please oh please, DON’T ship the actors Be wary that these actors are portraying young teens, so if you ship something, try not to sexualize the characters involved (an easy out in fandoms like these is to age-up the characters when writing smut, or to tag it #underage but you’ll likely still hear plenty of flack for it--and rightfully so)!
To older fans, think back on Lizzie Mcguire. Remember when that came out? You shipped Lizzie and Gordo and people didn’t get up in arms about it! Weren’t those the days…? But how would your young self have felt if you went online to try to talk to others about that ship or the show and you saw a bunch of porn of it? It would have been downright traumatizing to some of you, I guarantee it! So, be CONSIDERATE and remember that the majority of the Andi Mack fans are currently in middle school and high school. And those kids live online even more than you probably did back then, so be careful HOW you go about enjoying the show, especially in ‘shipping’ underage characters, okay?
Now, for you younger fans, this show is literally aimed at you, it wants to teach you about different family dynamics, standing up for yourself, and a big topic that was recently introduced in season 2 is sexuality. You can ship Jonah and Andi all you want, it’s adorable as all get out so go right ahead! But you will see others shipping characters like Cyrus and Jonah together, too. Now, maybe you spend plenty of time in other fandoms on Tumblr and seeing gay ships doesn’t bother you because you’re used to it, but there are still a lot of kids out there NOT on tumblr, being raised by families that are strict or don’t accept the LGBT community, or simply just haven’t been made aware how truly normal it is. Just because someone doesn’t know about it, or has been raised to believe it’s ‘terrible’ does NOT give you permission to berate them for it or bully them. We are already seeing this creep into the fandom, so let’s nip it in the bud! Educate through kindness, guys!!
On Mack Chat, some kids have said that they like Cyrus and Iris together, while rejecting how obvious of a crush Cyrus has on Jonah. Just be aware that while some of us can see a ship even when there’s NO interaction at all and can easily tell when a show is trying to push for potential of romance, doesn’t mean someone else will see it that way. Does this give me a right to say that person is stupid and is against my ship for believing something else? NO. Not only can they think what they want, but some people don’t have that crazy ability to read between the lines (even when those lines are nonexistent)!
An aside here, but some people are going to watch this show and not want to ship ANYONE at all! Maybe they think Andi should stop worrying about Jonah and just live her life. And, guess what? That’s super okay! So just because someone doesn’t agree with your ship, or doesn’t ship anything at all, doesn’t mean you get to be mean to them for no reason, got it?
In addition, tumblr is a great place for the LGBT+ community to thrive, so you will see posts that claim characters are gay/lesbian/bisexual/asexual or trans/nonbinary/etc and so on. This is completely okay, headcanons are always welcome, and if you come across a term you’re not familiar with, you can take the opportunity to learn more about it! And it’s called a headcanon because it’s something the fan believes or wants to be true, while the canon is something given by the show and its creator (for example, cyrus liking jonah is CANON, but saying jonah is bisexual is a HEADCANON because it’s not been proven to be true in the show or by the creator).
Next, there’s a chance there will be polyamorous ships in this fandom, so I want to address this, too. You will come across people who think that the #goodhaircrew should forget about Jonah and just all be together instead, or that Andi, Jonah, and Cyrus could all be together, or maybe Amber and Jonah with Andi? And Buffy, too? Maybe even throw in didnt-eat-a-live-frog guy, just for kicks! I don’t know, there’s lots of possibilities, and that means some people don’t just ship 2 characters together, sometimes it’s 3, or 4, or even more! This can seem odd and even unheard of to those who might even be familiar with homosexuality or the LGBT+ community. But polyamorous relationships DO exist, and they can be portrayed healthily, so some fandoms do have poly ships. There’s nothing wrong with this, it’s not ‘cheating’ or anything like that! Just remember, we don’t judge others for who they ship or HOW they ship it.
The exception comes when you ship real people. Do people do this? Yes, A LOT. Is it okay? Not really. A lot of people like to ship celebrities and some celebrities are so disconnected from their own fan clubs that they don’t really care, but you HAVE to remember that this is still a person who lives their own life! Yes, the actor might portray a character in a show or movie that you really like, but while you can play around with a character by drawing and writing about them all you want, you have to have RESPECT for the real person behind that character. Especially when they are still a young teen themselves.
The problem with shipping real people is that you are dictating someone’s actions based on what little you know about them. Just imagine if someone saw you act out a play at school, and suddenly this fan followed you around and tried to be your friend and asked you a million questions about yourself. They say they ship you with the person who played your counterpart in the play. Even if you DID like that other person, having someone else dictating how you should feel about someone else isn’t just annoying, it’s WRONG. This fan saw you in a play, but that play was NOT your life and that character you portrayed was NOT you!
Now, there’s nothing wrong with being a fan, and some people really like the limelight and being asked questions, but you should still stay out of their personal life unless they give permission or if they are already very close to you (by being a friend or relative, for example). You can admire a celebrity all you want, there’s no harm in that. It’s when you become invasive, or dictate their actions and emotions, that it becomes a major problem. They are their own person and get to do whatever they want to do.
You can like Asher, but you don’t get to send him hate mail just because his character broke up with Amber and then got back together with her. Not only is he just following the script of the show, he is NOT the character he portrays. You can chat up Josh on tumblr and joke about memes, but you don’t get to harass him or demand anything from him simply because you’re a fan. Let these people live their lives. They are people, too, with their own lives, just like you!
Sometimes, the best way to curb this behavior is to ask yourself how YOU would feel if a stranger asked you the question you’re about to ask this celebrity, or how YOU would feel if a stranger put up a post about shipping you with one of your friends when they know nothing about you, etc. Just, please, PLEASE, remember these actors are PEOPLE, and are also teenagers themselves right now.
tldr; BE RESPECTFUL! Always take a second look at your actions before you do anything, and try to be responsible while also having fun!!

So, @itza322 and I went to Chris’ book event in Houston. What a gem. I’ve been to a few of his signings, but never got to see him do anything like this. I twas so worth the six hour drive. Lol He was sweet and funny and thankfully, there weren’t any awkward Klaine questions. Here’s what we can remember from last night!! See Maritza’s pictures here!
Under a read more because this got long. I transcribed his answers from my audio, so they are are exact quotes. Enjoy!
First thing he said is he feels like home because her grew up in Clovis, which he always says is the Texas of California. Nerd.
The school was on Merrill Street and while driving from the airport, he kept hearing the GPS say “You are now ten minutes away from Meryl Streep.” and his reaction was “What is she doing at the event!” It was adorable.
He “learned the hard way that the readers know more about the series than I do.”, so he gives people the chance to quiz him on the books.
He did a reading from TLOS6 World’s Collide. It was a great little excerpt. I could listen to him read all day long.
He had to step backstage for a minute for something and he said “It was Hillary” on the phone. He said that. In Texas. I looked at Martiza and said “Did he just say that in Texas?” and I saw Alla mouthing “Texas?” too. Lmao
He did trivia, where he asked questions about the books and all the kids were adorable who answered and they got TLOS hats for answering.
He then took questions from the audience to test his knowledge on the series. The firs question was “When is the movie coming out?” “It wasn’t exactly the kind of question I was hoping for.” He said the questions stumped him, so she got a hat. Lol But his real answer was the more the readership grows and the books sells the studio will want to get it going.
Next question was “What does Conner say to Annie?” Chris said he doesn’t remember an Annie so he doesn’t know the answer and gave the kid a hat.
He had everyone in costume come up on stage, there were a few great costumes! One girl was dressed like the Galaxy queen and it was fantastic. She got runner up. There was a woman dressed dressed as Mother Goose and her daughter was her flask. (@itza322 posted pics here) It was perfect and Chris was completely in love with it. They won, naturally.
The first girl who went up on stage, when asked what her costume was said “NOthing, I just wanted to come up on stage.” Totally stumped Chris for a minute. There was another little boy that was dressed like “An innocent bystander from NY” Lol
Moving on to audience q&a. While waiting for the first question, he said “That would be really cool if the flask was full” Lol
The first person (she was 21 fyi, not a kid) asked if she could get a picture afterwards and Chris looked at Alla who just said no immediately. She then asked what his process was for writing. “I have less of a process and  more of a cry for help. I write at night because less people tend to bother me at night, that’s nice so I can focus. Um..I like to write in my spare bedroom that’s full of tacky nerd merchandise. That helps me be creative and I love listening to film scores while I write. That helps me inspire story more than anything.”
What inspired you to write about fairy tale characters? “When I was a kid, I loved fairy tales. My mom used to read fairy tales to me every night before I went to bed and I always had a million questions about all the characters and their motives. My mom finally got so tired of answering my questions she said “Christopher why don’t you just write your own fairytales?” And here we are!”
How did you get inspired to write your stories? “When I was about your age, I loved reading and I loved reading things like Harry Potter and books by [inaudible] I remember the last Harry Potter book emotionally scared me so much that I thought the only way I could fill the void was by emotionally scarring other people. So that’s why I like writing so much.”
What was your book inspiration? “Ooh good question. Really I think the Wizard of Oz was the biggest inspiration. If you look at the Land of Stories structure, it’s structured very simlar to Oz where they’re on a quest or they’re going through the parts of the world while the evil queen/wicked witch is the brooding in the foreground. So yeah, I’d say Wizard of Oz most.”
How is your favorite character and why? “Well I think my public answer is Conner. Well Conner and Alex. But I really Conner’s story in the series because he starts of as the kid who takes naps in class and by the end of the book he’s the kid you saves the world. So I think that’s a good story. But I do love Mother Goose because she’s such a bad influence. So yeah, I think those two are some of my favorites.”
What advice do you have for anyone who is looking to be a writer in the future? “I’d the best advice to give to aspiring writers is to not be intimidated by other writers. Because other writers get very, very competitive about writing. And some of the writers I got advice from are always very discouraging and say “just don’t do it.” And so I take it with a grain of salt. I think writer’s block is and I feel like as soon as you feel it coming on just get up and walk away from your computer or your pad or whatever. And I think the more you sit and fester the worse it’s gonna be. So as soon as you you feel it coming, just walk away and come back when you have an idea later.”
How do you get past your writer’s block? Besides walking away? “I listen to a lot of music. I think having other things in your life to focus on to kind of divert your attention is really good for that. But honestly I think that’s the only advice I can give is to not focus on the fact you have nothing to focus on. You know to throw some other things in there and to outside your house and walk around. Let the inspiration find you if you can’t find it.”
What made you think of making Conner the heir of telling stories and Alex the heir to magic? “Ooh good question. Um because their twins and that was wasn’t and idea I had until writing the second or third book. Um but I think because their twins they are single handedly responsible for continuing our story telling in our world and continuing magic in the other world. So it’s kind of a yin and yang situation.”
Do you still hate your grandmother for crumpling up your stories when they were bad? “Well it was very traumatic at the time. For people who don’t know, when I was a kid I tried writing stories when I was 7 or 8. It was very difficult because writing a novel was hard when you’re that young. I used to write down chapters, I’d take it to my grandma’s house and she’d grammar check it and spell check it and if she liked it, she’d keep it in a pile and if she didn’t like it, she’d crumple it up in front of me and throw it away. And I grew some character from that! But really she gave it to me honestly and I think that really helped me the most more than anything in the long run. So no, there’s no hard feelings. But she still gives me notes on the books. It’s a little annoying.”
What was your hardest book to write? “Probably the first one. Because up until the first book the longest thing I had ever written was an essay at school. And while I was writing the first book, I was also on a world tour with Glee so I had this crazy routine. I’d come in before the show, I’d go underneath the stage into the dressing rooms, I’d write a chapter, I’d go sing Don’t Stop Believing, come back I’d edit the chapter, I’d run out and sing I Wanna Hold Your Hand, come back, right some more, slap on a leotard and go do Single Ladies, come back. I did that for months and months and months and that’s the reason I am the way I am today.”
He then did the raffle for the meet and greets. He had a cute little girl come up and help him draw the tickets. He also had an additional winner because he drew a frog on a specific page of one book. Thought that was cute!
He then did a reading from Mother Goose Diaries. Again, it was an adorable snippet and I could listen to him read all day.
Overall, it was a great experience and I hope y’all enjoy this write up!

Pool Maintenance Tips Archives – Arizona Mirage
Pool Tips And Advice - Pool Repair And Maintenance ...
