Dr. Eli Edwards is a Bradford Springs local who’s been gone for more or less 21 years. He’s returned on the heels of a family death and is just trying to do his best and keep his head above water. He’s a bit arrogant but can be very engaging with most, albeit he is rather reticent when it comes to talking about recent losses. Eli is a surgeon by trade and an avid runner. He’s been back in town since June 2022 and is doing his best to make Bradford Springs feel like home again.

Oldest of the three Edwards boys, he was also the highest achieving. Think golden child, academically inclined, musically gifted and athletically skilled. Definitely the responsible one, he kept his little bros in line but was still close to them.

When he got older, he began to think of leaving Colorado for college and ended up going to New York where he got his medical degree from Columbia and began practicing there. Eventually, he was an adjunct at NYU as well.

Over the years, his relationship to his younger brother improved while he and his middle brother didn’t stay as close. But Eli started to come home more on holidays and felt a shift in their family dynamic overall, closer to how they’d been when he was growing up. 

In 2016, his parents were in a fatal car accident and Eli was tasked with getting everything in order as the de facto head of house now. 

He went back to NY after everything was in order and was there for six more years until this summer when his little brother, Noah, was in a fatal accident that brought him home for good. Noah had had a kid, so now Eli has a niece/nephew in town and his middle brother is in Bradford now too. 

So he’s been back since June 2022 and has been trying to keep his head above water, while appearing to be perfectly put together.

An avid marathon runner, he’s finished top twenty in the New York City Marathon four years in a row. 

Goes to bed at 9pm most nights and gets up at 4:30am to run. 

Quite the movie connoisseur but don’t let that fool you – he says he loves Wes Anderson but has fallen asleep multiple times watching. And he can tell you all about Marvel’s latest movies which he claims to have been coerced into seeing by friends.

Quite a talented pianist, years of diligent practice ingrained in him early on.

Middle Edwards Brother  (0/1): They were never as close to Eli as Eli was to their younger brother. They probably weren’t as high-achieving as Eli was growing up either or even now, professionally. They weren’t around when their little brother, Noah, passed, and Eli likely resents him for it but hasn’t commented on it lately. Whereas Eli is icy calm in the face of their losses, this brother is likely hot-headed and a bit like wildfire in comparison.

Gabriel had always thought that the grass was greener on the other side. He’d never really had the chance to experience the life his half-siblings were offered, all due to the fact that he was the result of an affair. While his siblings spent their days living lavish lives, he and his mother were doing their best to get by, and Gabriel didn’t understand how a man could treat a woman he shared a child with in such ways as he’d witnessed. Appearances were everything to his father, not even allowing his son to take the family name because of how it may seem to the neighbours and the people he saw every Sunday at church. No, his investment banker father didn’t care about his bastard child, or the woman he brought him into the world with. He didn’t care one bit. 

Perhaps we could call it dramatic, how Gabriel used his life and skills to be everything his father told him he would never be, but he wouldn’t be his true self if he wasn’t at least a little dramatic. While his young life had been in Rotterdam, his mother soon moved them to New York, cutting ties with the DeVries and starting a life for themselves elsewhere. But for Gabe, he held onto the little bits of torment from his father and used it to push him through life. While his mother worked several jobs, waiting for her break on Broadway to take form, Gabriel fell into his studies. He was a weird kid anyway, people would tease him because he’d rather spend time in the science labs than out at recess. A mathlete, a tall, lanky kid who people classed as a geek. He was a gifted child who focused on working hard and proving everyone wrong, so gifted that he’d achieve amazing things.

His mother worked hard to get him into private schools which in turn helped him land a scholarship at Harvard when he was only 16. She’d always told him that he deserved everything and anything the world could provide, and while money was minimal, she considered it no object where her son’s future was concerned. As his life moved on he walked out of college life with his MBA and CFA certification before he secured an internship on wall street. It was around this time that Gabriel decided to use his fathers name to push himself ahead in life, leaving Navarro in the past, at least for now. The DeVries name was world renown in the finance industry and while none of his siblings had followed in his fathers footsteps, Gabriel had, all with the intention of being better than the man ever was. Cocky, headstrong and somewhat brilliant, Gabriel made one of the biggest mergers in his company’s history, and became pretty well known around his field. In his mid 20’s he started working with fortune 500 companies, branching out where he could and investing more money than he ever knew existed… all to spite his father. He even won awards against his father, and it was at this point that Gabe thought yeah, I've done it. His father had tried at this point to claim glory for Gabriel's success in multiple interviews, each time Gabriel bit back saying that the man did nothing but abandon him and his mother. He wasn’t about to let the man take the credit for raising him when he’d never lifted a finger. He gave his mother all the credit he could, praised her, and labelled her as the hero of his story.

After becoming one of the most successful investment bankers of his age,  and getting his mother her dream home, Gabriel felt as though he’d achieved more than he could ever imagine— but it wasn’t enough. He found himself taking on a life of someone who was the opposite from himself,  and it came easier than he anticipated. He was now a completely different man from what he was in school, no longer a geek or math nerd, he was now surrounded by people who he didn’t even know, and they all loved him... Or was it his money? He had always struggled connecting with people on a deeper level than simply face value, simply because of who he’d become, and Gabriel found that in order to play the role of the man he’d become, he needed to keep up the act. Various substances helped him wear this mask and Gabe found that he was able to make his way through day to day activities fitting in rather well.

He moved through his lavish life never having to make a meaningful connection with anyone, hiring girls to be on his arm for events and partying with whoever he pleased until his mother verbalised her distaste for who he’d become. So he stuck with one girl, one girl to take to the parties, to have on his arm and to spend time with, one girl to keep his mother happy. If you asked him now he’d deny that his emotions for the girl were the reason he pushed away, but we’d all know he was lying. Gabriel was well and truly falling for someone, and he’s never considered the possibility of doing so. Frankly, it scared him, so he did what he’d done whenever anyone got too close to him, he cut them off. This time however, it didn’t feel the same. 

This part of Gabriel's life ended up being a turning point for him. Surely he was more than this, right? He was a decent person, at least he thought, but if he'd cut off the only person he'd ever really had feelings for, and was becoming someone his mother didn't like then was he really the good person he thought he was? He'd spent some time battling with himself and after his addiction saw him losing whatever grip he had on himself,  he ended up spiralling down a rabbit hole that his mother thankfully dragged him out of. He had struggled to gain a firm grip on the life he’d curated to spite his father, and realised that he was only becoming the man he hated. Gabe quit his job, sold his cars, his homes in various cities, left his cats with his mother and checked himself into rehab. Through his time focusing on his health, he rediscovered a love of art and has been dabbling in sculpture, metal work, things where he can work with his hands. Things outside of his past. His mother talked him into settling down in Bridgeport after telling him that living with her forever wasn’t going to help him rediscover his purpose in life. She’d always loved Bridgeport and visiting her friends there. She wanted her son  to see what easy, calm, wall street and drug free life looked like. It’s always awkward settling into a new place as a person he wasn’t known for the longest time, but Gabe  spends his time creating, reading and collecting things, trying to start over again.

Tagged by @dragonnan​, like a week ago and only just now remembering this was a thing I didn’t do. Whooopsy...

So I didn’t see the rules but based on observation it looks like selecting 10 characters from 10 different fandoms and I think posting gifs is optional. 

1. Thomas Magnum , as played by Jay Hernandez. Because just look at this face. Also, while the canon of the show largely avoid mentioning it, this is the first veteran character I actually associate with. 

2. Steven Crain, from Haunting of Hill House as played by Michiel Huisman. One, Michiel Huisman. Two, because I can appreciate where his character comes from: that “everyone leans on me for everything but sometimes, I really want to push back but it always comes back to ‘haunt’ me in the worst way” is something that I’ve had serious issues with in the past. The struggle to want to love his drug addict brother unconditionally, but getting tired of the numerous times he lies to and steals from him; to want to connect with his family but there’s so much bad blood between them it might as well be an ocean. Also, coming from a family where mental illness doesn’t run, it wanders around, getting to know each of us on a personal level, his insistence that they need therapy, not Ghostbusters, is an argument I have legitimately had with relatives. 

3. Rip Wheeler, from Yellowstone, as played by Cole Hauser. Complicated, and just so fucking done with everything and everyone, but still is nice to his animals. 

4. Dean Winchester, from Supernatural, as played by Jensen Ackles. I have loved this character since this scene, and the relationship between Sam and Dean might as well be my sister and I - I watched the first 20 minutes, called my sister up and was like “THEY FINALLY MADE A SHOW ABOUT SIBLINGS WE CAN RELATE TO”. 

5. Alec Ramsey, from Black Stallion, as played by Kelly Reno. Because I wanted to be abandoned on an island with a horse in the Mediterranean Sea. 

6. Tony Stark, from MCU, as played by  Robert Downey Jr. One of the few characters to accurately portray CPTSD and how it changes your brain chemistry to the point that logic is no longer a concept you can understand, reacting on emotion, even when the choices you’re making are fundamentally terrible. 

7. Malcolm Bright, from Prodigal Son, as played by Tom Payne. One, embraces therapy. Is very open about the fact that he is wildly dependent on not only therapy, but serious medication. Two, one of the few characters where you can understand what it means to love someone and hate them at the same time. 

8. Jack O’Neil, from Stargate: SG-1, as played by Richard Dean Anderson. I joined the military because of this man. 

9. Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci, because they are in fact two halves of a whole idiot. Sam Beckett is one of those fundamentally GOOD guys. He’s big on consent, far reaching consequences of actions, and genuinely wants to help everyone he meets. Also, a wonderfully tragic character, he does good for everyone else except himself. Al - A total cad, but somehow, one of the most appreciative men in TV concerning women. He just loves women - everything about them. And the story about his first wife? Being a prisoner and presumed dead for years in a Vietnamese POW camp? His sister being taken away and put in an institution for having Downs? My precious baby. I love him, and his friendship with Sam. 

10. Tristan Farnon, from All Creatures Great and Small (2021 edition), played by Callum Woodhouse. Tristan is new, but I would kill for him. He’s so weird, and my sense of humor, but also again - one of those genuinely good guys, who has a very low opinion of himself, but admits that he’s just really good at playing a part. Besides. Just look at this doof.
