We have finally finished this project, and thus, The World's Worst Dating Sim is finally DONE! Just in time for April Fools Day. Now, with our six new contestants, choose, uhh... who's dateable? Or not dateable? This last batch was determined almost entirely by People Telling Us Who To Add, contains multiple AUs, and is... hmm. "Unconventional" may be a good term? Half of these are probably undateable but you can still shoot your shot.

Can I ask, since you mentioned agreeing 'even if under duress' - how did the Watchers convince Player Grian to join them in hunger au?

So take this with the specific grain of salt that ive never watched Evo directly (but have friends who have ((thank you wren)), so i know tidbits via osmosis from them), but my thought has always been that the riddles the Watchers gave the Evo Players were all tests used to measure cleverness and intelligence-- the whole point of them attempting to copy the mind of a Player into a Watcher larva in the first place was to try and avoid the insanely high infant mortality rate their typical juveniles go through, bc they dont understand their own limits enough to even know they have them yet. So they needed a Player they knew they could instruct and who would listen to them, and, well. Grian, for all he was rebellious and outright defiant of the Watchers, still solved their puzzles and only had to be punished once before he stopped trying to mess with them

What ive always pictured is after the dragon fight the two main elders of the Watcher colony finally revealed themselves to Grian properly-- i have this crystal clear image of the two of them hovering above and next to the central end island, looming over Grian, and like, these guys are big. HUGE. A good 5x bigger than the ender dragon itself, at LEAST. It would be hard not to feel insanely intimidated by that, honestly, especially when there are two of them side by side, blocking your entire view of the End from that direction.

Anyway picture that with the context of these two giant floating winged worms youve never seen before, who have demonstrated their powerful ability to manipulate code in a way you cant.... telling you that they have chosen you to become one of them. Thats an immense amount of pressure, both from flattery and fear, especially considering theyve punished you before for defying them. I like to think even then, Grian balked a bit, and while i dont have exact dialogue beats here, i know the Watchers continued putting that pressure on him (likely while leveraging his friendships too-- like ive always said, if Grian hadnt been chosen, BigB wouldve been, and i can absolutely see the Watchers offering to take him in Grian's stead) until he finally caved and accepted their "offer" of joining them.

Unfortunately, he didnt find out exactly what that entailed until it was far too late.

watched the musical demon show (don't wanna name it so this post isn't in the tags) at the behest of an IRL friend and i can already tell this is going to be a piece of media where i absolutely cannot stop thinking about it, not because i really love the show as-is, but because it has so many individual components i really like and find incredibly fun or compelling, and i'm so frustrated that it doesn't come together for me

i think the main thing i can say about it as a show, setting aside some of the insensitive choices that were made that i really don't feel qualified to tackle or talk about, is that the entire thing sort of gives off this vibe of someone really excited to show you every single oc they made in high school and college and i very genuinely mean that in both the best and worst ways possible

there are some good hooks for season two though so i will absolutely give them that

#the vibe is just like... they are just soooo excited to get all their ideas out that it becomes... messy and badly paced #like there are so many moments that are cool or fun or emotional in a vaccuum but they don't connect fully y'know #because this arc or character was JUST introduced so there isn't proper build up. everything moves too quick #and it's frustrating because you can TELL that the people making this show love their ideas and characters #and i more than get thta! i am also someone with a lotta ocs i love to blab about #but i think they have been working with them so long that they #a. assume we are already just as attached to them as they are without always doing that work #b. assume we've seen all the supplemental material which. i have not #and i don't think that a professional show is the type of thing where there should be a barrier of entry that involves like #podcasts and comics and twitter threads and IC instagram posts about characters to do that emotional/lore legwork y'know #i love lore and supplemental stuff obviously but this should still be like #a satisfying experience for me a person who saw the pilot however many years ago and then has not interacted with the show or fandom since #idk man stuff felt rushed and messy and i wish i liked it more #it needed more slow moments i think. the two scenes where the group all drinks together (minus one awful joke in the bar scene) are like #the best in the show to me becase i actually believe these guys are FRIENDS. i wanna see them hang out more! #i wanna see them actually really grow to like each other organically!!! i wanna see them build connections and grow better slowly!!! #songs absolutely slap though. soundtrack is probably gonna be in my spotify unwrapped 2024 #i love me a musical and that inspiration is on its sleeve which i love #also imo the humor isn't great usually. it's very juvenile imo and sometime that works but it often doesn't #(for me at least humor is obviously SUPER subjective) #also tonally they have this 'have your cake and eat it too' issue which bugs me. it's exemplified by the v's (one in particular) #actually i could go on a whole rant about the v's if anyone is interested because god i have some Thoughts #and i think my issues with the v's (namely one v) encapsulates many issues i have with the show #despite all this rambling i actually did enjoy a lot of my time with it. i just don't think it was well-written if that makes sense

like I use insults for the kids the same way an older sibling affectionately calls their siblings the stupidest shit that they came up with years ago and never dropped. I affectionately call Aemond, 'almond' if he's being... himself, lovingly.

I use 'alicunt' like a fucking hype name, cause she is serving count constantly and I love her for that.

'crispin' is the hardest to repurpose, as it's easily the lamest, but every one and a while it finds its time and place.

it's the locked tomb, yeah. as stated before, I could not stand reading its prose, so during the server read through I mostly listened to others discuss and read the screencaps they shared. here's the main critiques as summed up by a server member who wishes to stay anonymous

i would also add that for a novel that ends in the protagonist being literally willing to die for another woman, it didn't seemed like the novel earned that kind of emotional payoff. harrow is offscreen for a BIG chunk of the novel, and whenever harrow and gideon ARE onscreen together up until their big confession scene, it seems like they fucking hate each other, and not really in a cute fun way. I've seen every single discussion they have with each other (it's not that many???) and it doesn't seem like there's any real sense of pull or drive towards one another that could justify gideon having a sense of devotion. they keep flatly telling each other to die in a way that isn't even fun to read. i don't really understand what is even APPEALING to them about each other. or to a reader. harrow's not even a fun sicko :/

#httyd movies are good but. theyre kid plots yk? #not a bad thing but i wanna use the wolrdbuilding more. like cmon its fucking DRAGONS man #so far giyuu & tsutako live in a little seaside village that regularly gets raided by dragons mostly stealing their livestock (and anyone #caught in surprise undefended) one night hes out doing errands he forgot to do during the day (doesnt want to dissapoint tsutako) #and gets caught out in a raid. hes running for cover and comes across a juvenile dragon. hes scared shitless and frozen as it creeps closer #and closer until he can feel its hot breath sniffing at him. curious purple eyes stare into his own. a loud fireball explodes near them #and the dragon nudges him away from the carnage. tsutako sees a dragon near him and flips her shit. ready to die trying to keep #her baby brother alive. he screams at her to stop- shoving the dragon away as she screams for him to get away from it #dragon flees and tsutako drags him home stressed out her gourd but thankful hes alive. #later on hes out walking in the woods to get away from it all (the other kids dont like him very much) and comes across the dragon again #he ends up making friends with it and names it sabito ('rust' for his orange-red coloration & 'rabbit' for the little hops he does) #comes across all the little dragon quirks as he hangs out- meanwhile back in the village they need more warriors to fight off the dragons #giyuu gets forced into training for it despite his (& tsutako's) protests. time comes to training against actual dragons and he miraculousl #survives using his knowledge of quirks hes learned from sabito- it astonishes /everyone/ bc hes a wimpy little fuck #yadda yadda he accidentally becomes top student just trying to avoid actually hurting the dragons and gets assigned to kill the Big Bad One #they release the beast and it crawls around the top chain netting for a bit before it notices giyuu. it drops to the floor and slowly #advances towards him. giyuu intentionally drops his weapon & shield and steps towards it with big wet scared eyes. everyone's shocked and #tsutakos screaming for them to call it off. the dragon stops posturing and sniffs at him- lets him gently pet its nose. he quietly pleads #with it to go back into its cell as guards are hurrying to get into the arena with them. the dragon looks around at them & at the sky befor #looking back at giyuu's sad eyes promising theyll both be safer if it goes back in. it hesitantly does so and giyuu locks the doors back as #the guards get to him and drag him to the village leader's hall to get the scolding of his life #he tries to reason with them that the dragons arent bad but they hit back with 'so what are we supposed to do boy. starve as we let the #dragons take all of our food? grow up. /we cant live in harmony with them.'/ #hes fucked up over it & everyone starts treating him as even more of an outcast than before. #one night while tsutako's doing dishes 'tako-nee?' quietly called out. 'what giyuu?' she doesnt even turn to glance at him. #she /always/ stops to give her full attention when he calls for her like that. his heart sinks to the floor. 'goodnight' barely keeping #the crack of his voice away. 'goodnight giyuu' #she awakes the next morning to no response. an empty house. she finds a red shirt of hers missing & a note #giyuu's neat writing shakey & slowly delving into a messy scrawl as it furthers along. one- two odd dried spots on the letters turned to #countless (/27/) blotches in the ink before it fully dried. 'im sorry' left pristine atop the worst of it at the very bottom.
