👽 A headcanon about a weird quirk of there
💤 A headcanon about their sleep
//👽 Connie's voice is very level, almost monotone most of the time, and doesn't show much emotion. Because of this people tend to find her hard to read in person.
//💤 Anthea's circadian rhythm skews late--when given a normal amount of sunlight exposure and left to her own devices, she'll naturally fall asleep some time around 3am and wake up around noon.

▽ Subway to Stardew - Adoptable Joltik ⚡️
This would play after Emmet's 8 heart event and getting Joltik up to 8 hearts as well.
I released a separate mod specifically for adopting Joltik, so you only need to get them up to 8 hearts to adopt them! You can do it right now!
Adoptable Joltik Mod Link: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/21002
Tumblr media
And of course... Commentary under the read-more.
Joltik's adoption event sat in the drafts for quite a while. It took me whole a day to implement and I didn't let myself sleep until I finished everything. (It's 1 PM now...)
The event ended up wildly different because of how extra custom pets are implemented. You would think that they would be added in the same way as you get your cat/dog that you select during character creation. No. You have to buy a license. Only Marnie is authorized to sell them.
Here's the original script for Joltik's adoption event:
[Joltik Adoption Event]
Emmet: @! Joltik likes you verrrrry much. They want to stay with you. I'm letting you adopt them. Yup. I filled out all the paperwork. The Joltiks are legally documented now.
I never gave ours a name... Galvantula wouldn't let me. She is verrrry picky about it. But that's okay. Joltik is yours. You should name them. She came along for approval. So. What name should I put on the adoption form?
[Name input box like Marnie's adoption thing...]
[Galvantula pauses for a moment to think and then offhandedly agrees.]
Emmet: Galvantula didn't shock me for that. That name is okay. Yup. I will file that with the Ferngill Republic. Don't worry about it. Make sure you take verrrry good care of our little Joltik!
[Joltik jumps and heart emotes]
◇──◆──◇──◆
The whole naming portion was a source of much more frustration than it should have been. In events, the name input box is brought up by the "catQuestion" command (which applies to dogs chosen at the start, too...
Tumblr media
If you refuse, then Marnie also shows up no matter what you do. Farmhouse positions are also tricky and made even harder to find reference for after 1.6 added the farmhouse being moveable. Joltik kept spawning where Emmet was supposed to be so I had to use a move command just to get them to spawn one tile to the side. Galvantula was fine. I didn't get to updating her vanilla portraits yet so she's staying quiet.
The catQuestion command also only adds the pet you pick during character creation. There's no fields to target the usage. You have to buy a license. It's the only way to get another pet. I didn't want Joltik to replace a cat either since in-story you would have to earn the trust of both Emmet and Galvantula... There's no way you can do that by the first 25 days of spring. It's immersion breaking and you lose a cat.
I did find the license aspect funny though. It was oddly fitting for the mod's lore of Pokemon being pretty much banned from the region. Emmet is a threat to Stardew Valley's ecosystem. Not the best guy for the task of combating anti-Pokemon xenophobia.
Pet sizes are apparently hardcoded so I had to make a new spritesheet for Joltik as if they even need a 32 x 32 pixel area per frame. I did end up making new sprites for them while I was at it. I tried to base it off of the cat's behaviors so I have less animation fields to edit (I was tired). The cat loafs a lot. Trying to convey that in a tiny spider posed quite the challenge.
Tumblr media
After everything was done, I figured that the whole adoption portion of the mod could easilly be taken apart to be its own mod as a demo of sorts for the expansion. So I went and made a content pack to post.
Bringing up your starter pet's friendship level takes quite some time, so it would be awkward if I let the event play with no preconditions. Because of that, I ended up including Joltik as an NPC and locking their adoption behind their heart level.
We actually only had two lines per day of the week (not including season) for daily dialogue. That shot up to six lines per day of the week for a full 0-2-4-6-8-10 in spring because I was determined to publish a mod. (I've been modding for nearly a year nonstop and I don't have anything playable... humiliating...)
Anyways! I hope you're all having fun with 1.6! It certainly brought new challenges and opportunities to the modding scene!

OKAY i can follow up my previous platinum post now. i haven't actually fought the gym in veilstone yet nor have i done the team galactic building stuff but there's so much flavor text already from the little that is able to be explored
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's pretty fucked that galactic has been able to set up shop or whatever in so many places because of this lie about finding a new source of energy. like okay while not entirely untrue the public does have the right to be suspicious about it. especially considering uhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the contrast of these guys saying pretty much the complete opposite of the noble New Energy message. people criticize sinnoh a lot for team galactic not making a whole lot of sense and while i don't think sinnoh is a masterclass in storytelling or anything, i don't think people give it enough credit for it using this contrast to its advantage. i don't think the difference in this dialogue is because team galactic is confused or anything, it's their public facing front vs the truth of their motives. it's very heavyhanded but it's trying to sell this concept to children, so sdfjksd
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh and this gift porygon is entirely optional and able to be missed if you don't walk into this unassuming building with a couple NPCs, but it turns out it's a runaway from team galactic. it's not like pokemon hasn't used pokemon as a storytelling device before, team rocket was literally selling these guys mass produced at the game corner in kanto, but it's a lot more subtle here. the team galactic symbol is in the slot machine reels, and someone just found a random escapee porygon presumably around veilstone city. it's definitely drawing parallels to the Evil Deeds:tm: of team rocket that came before them and implies that they're probably doing more than JUST researching new energy...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh yes and the constant reminders that dawn (or lucas, but i always play as dawn) is a child. of course the protags in the mainline pokemon games have always been children but it's especially striking in sinnoh. sinnoh's story has some of the highest stakes out of any pokemon games, and yet the protagonist is still a little kid, confirmed by the NPCs. it's more unnerving here.
like a child putting an end to a crime syndicate or a child stopping a natural disaster by summoning a sky god is one thing, but in sinnoh dawn steps into Pokemon Hell and catches Pokemon Satan in the palm of her hands and walks back out. perhaps i'm being a bit overdramatic but as a traumatized person who used sinnoh to cope as a child it's very interesting to me that dawn is hypothetically, arguably, the most traumatized pokemon protagonist. god damn she goes through some shit. these reminders are just disconcerting to me in a way they are not in other pokemon games. though maybe that's my bias speaking a bit too loud lol
ANYWAY now i gotta decide if i wanna grind out getting spiritomb with two ds consoles (or three?? i think i have enough files for that) or if i wanna sit in the game corner for a while to grind out coins for some TMs because i feel like doing one of the two HMM

Mentioned it a few times, so here's a section from my outline detailing how Jon's copy of pokemon white got marked by every entity!!
- Ingo popping in on the archives: hey Jon :) good news I found my brother, he has a subway now too :)
- Jon: HOLD ON. FROM BLACK AND WHITE POSTGAME?
- them: what's black and white
- Jon: dw about it
- Ingo gets his hands on Jon's copy of pokemon white <3
- they both keep playing with anime logic when the games run on stats shdj
- Emmet gets angry at it bc he can't beat himself in game
- he also keeps having to wipe dirt off the screen, and suddenly the cars look much..older. There's dirt, piled in the corners, the windows seem darker, the lights a little dimmer. The dimensions of the cars seem to get smaller, tighter the further you progress
- Ingo finds himself conducting the same battle again, and again, and again...and again......and again...........and again.....................
- the train just loops the same empty car no matter how many times he tries to walk through it, just like his own domain
- the game cartridge becomes a spooky artifact! Buried/spiral so far :)
- Jon gets it back and is like hey what the FUCK did you guys do to this
- Ingo and Emmet: uhh. We played it a little
- so Jon plays it a bit to see what exactly they did and marks it for beholding
- the player character looks a little too much like you for comfort, and the npcs will respond to the little quips you say to the screen, almost like they know you, and they know they're in a video game
- anyways it becomes something of a running gag that Jon keeps lending the game out to avatars and it gets marked
- Jonah losing his mind watching his Archivist's nintendo ds pick up marks faster than his actual archivist but unable to do anything about it
- the web: well I wasn't expecting this but I am certainly not complaining
- corruption is paras. Jon doesn't know when it happened. Curio and I don't even know when it happened. Does it truly matter though? The threat of paras is constant and omnipresent
- Jude: I want you...to give me your game
- Jon: what?
- Jude: you hurt my feelings earlier. I want you to give me your game
- so Jon gives her the game and she plays it and marks it for desolation (and when she's giving it back to him, thoroughly burns his hand)
- there's no way to predict trainer levels anymore, and there's a chance before every battle that it'll just be wildly too powerful for you, no matter how much you think you're overleveled, but you can't flee and instead just have to sit there and watch, utterly helpless, as your team is demolished. When they die in this way, they are permanently gone from the game and there's not even a record left of them. The burn status condition is also permanent and can't be healed
- Mike also gets his hands on Jon's game and marks it for the vast :) now if you attempt to use fly to avoid the hellscape that traversing this game is becoming, it's just an endless sky. Your character on their pokemon becomes smaller, and smaller, and smaller....until eventually, there's simply nothing but you, the player, and the blue sky, slowly overtaking your vision. It also gives you a sense of vertigo
- Nikola plays it and marks it for stranger while Jon is kidnapped. The humanoid pokemon (ex sawk) sometimes have dialogue during battles, and certain avatars just look off from what you remember. A few pixels out of place turning a loveable favorite into something other. Mr mime rates increase significantly, despite the fact they shouldn't be available until postgame
- when Jon is in his coma, Oliver picks up the ds off his bedside table and runs a quick nuzlocke. Pokemon die now ! When they die in this way they go to your box, unselectable and just taking up space, a record of your failures
- one day Daisy is bored and agitated so Jon is like FINE HERE. And she starts Hunting shinies and it gets out of hand
- Melanie sees Jon handing out his game to everyone and assumes it's just for anyone to play, so she takes it too and sweeps all the gyms with a stupidly overleveled team and type advantages. Slaughter mark :)
- when Jon gets a rib removed Jared also wants to play
- an alert now occasionally pops onscreen "you seem to be getting hungry! Better grab a snack :)" and if you don't take care of it fast enough (you never can, there's never enough time) there's a short animation of your avatar releasing a random member of your party and eating it. Then a little while later, "you seem to be getting hungry! Better grab a snack :)" again and again until your party roster is empty
- to calm Manuela down they sit her in front of the game like an ipad kid (it works)
- the light part of the day cycle lasts for such a short amount of time now, and the nights are so, so much darker. Flash doesn't work right anymore, it only makes things darker and darker. Something seems to move in the darkness
- he gives it to Martin, because surely Martin wouldn't do anything awful to his beloved game
- Peter Lukas watches Martin play over his shoulder
- now, sometimes, if your pokemon don't think you're good enough, they'll leave you. At first it's based off of friendship, makes you think if you can just be good enough then they'll stay. Except, even when you are perfect, they keep leaving, until you start wondering, I can't be doing anything wrong. Is the problem just me?
- and all that leaves now is the web
- and it's here we should take a moment to acknowledge what a coincidence it is, that all these avatars actually sat down and played this game. That they took enough time with it to leave a true mark, and that Jon's first instinct was to always offer this game as something of a peace offering, rather than force the avatars he met into submission by force. And really, isn't it rather incredible that this little thing survived all this? Jude's fire, Jared's flesh, everything that was thrown at it?
- coincidence, or a tiny spider sat upon her web in an empty battery compartment, ensuring that it always fell into just the wrong hands?
- some of these events also happen out of order to the canon timeline. Jon tries not to think about it too hard. Public transit is rather notorious for not following any sort schedule, and Ingo's subway is no different :)
- anyways cut to the safehouse. Jon is like "finally. I have some time to myself to see what the hell these people did to my game" so he sits down and plays it, and somehow despite everything about it, he beats the elite four and makes it to the Plasma takeover
- except this time, it's...worse. The gym leaders never come to hold off the sages, and there is no room to stop and heal his pokemon. N is absent from the game, leaving only Ghestis, who's sole desire is to be king of a ruined world
- Jon loses against Ghestis, and instead of respawning with full health like normal, Ghestis wins. And the world ends :)

I didn't liveblog the epilogue like I did with Teal Mask since I moved my reactions to twt but my goooooood it was so GOOD 😭 I'm kinda obsessed with it actually. Everyone was so full of personality and there's a LOT you can dissect from their lines and interactions!! The writers really do a lot of care into them oh my god
Again there's a Lot to dissect even if the story is like. what. 1 hour long but fav highlights on top of my head are:
ARVEN BEING JEALOUS OF KIERAN LMAOOOO This is like THE popular headcanon when Kieran first existed and its REAL????
Tumblr media
There's just a lot of lines where the gang def hang out a lot off screen like Penny going all "You want to meet Kieran because you want to BATTLE him, dont you?" at Nemona and Arven thinking Nemona is gonna jumpscare them when she went missing bc he predict her all too well augahaghah... I love when it shows that theyre close ya know...
Also some little details easily missable in dialogues like Penny (and Nemona?) having sweet tooth and Carmine's fav food being yakisoba, etc, I'm def scratching the surface here lol
AND THEN HOW ARVEN AND KIERAN BECAME BESTIES SO FAST DESPITE HOW THEY FIRST MET AAAAAAH i REALLY hope they get to play games and watch movies on that tv-
Actually the whole Paldea-gumi got along with Kieran fast like how Nemona is excited (but also scares Kieran) on finding another person to battle with...and Penny vibing with another introvert/shy friend... He deserves it sooooo muuuuuch
Tumblr media
Uh. The whole zombie infection thing actually horrifies me (in a way it flinches me to see my favs being put in an embarrassing situation #&@%&@) BUT I will say I like how Kieran is the main tsukkomi here and some parts shows he still have his, uh, unwell side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also being a sgao enjoyer they DEF get a lot of moments and I'm so glad they teamed up 😭 It's funny how much people (including me) are expecting Kieran to be under the Momotaro's influence only for him to be the two survivors along with MC £^*@^@*@&
Tumblr media
Speaking of, Pecharunt actually didn't get much role here outside of being the mastermind which def disappointed a lot of people wanting more lore on the Pokemon side so yeah....its kinda funny that THE main purpose of this distribution got put in the backburner like that. In fact both Indigo Disk and this event feels more character-focused over the Pokemons? ^#*@^@*^ Which is kinda a risky move considering most Pkmn fans can't rea-
In the end they did implied they hang out off screen but that left me wanting MORE... Can I get an iyashikei with just Paldea-gumi and Kitakami siblings PLEASEEEEEEE
The whole thing feels like a stupid B-movie plot and I LOVE it...a proof that some stories don't have to be a masterpiece if its already brimming with personalities and charm. Why am I seeing fuckers complaining over more buttons to mash just go back to previous gens if you want your bland ass mythical distributions via PokeCen NPCs or some shit!!!
I. would put my overall conclusion here but that means having to accept ScarVio has ended. I'm NOT doing that (inhaling copium). This is probably gonna remain the only mainline Pokemon I'll ever get attached to so...yeah...I'm gonna miss them a lot...
Tumblr media
(Anyway I have to yell here because I have no one to talk about this event. Its lonely when you're just exploding by yourself hahhaah.)

I was thinking about it and I really do think so much of my issue with scarlet and violet is that you can't go inside of buildings anymore. There's the school (which has no hallways or transitional areas) and the gyms (that you don't fight inside of and which look the same) and one specific sandwich shop (lol) but other than that there's really nowhere to actually go once you've made it to a town.
Mesagoza is possibly the largest city we've gotten in Pokemon (or at least in top 3) but it feels way smaller than both Castelia and Lumiose because there's nothing to DO. You wander around in a circle not talking to NPCs, because 70% of them don't actually have unique dialogue so why bother checking every one, and you look at what are essentially the same 5 shops over and over until you make it back around to the school's giant staircase.
Towns are just pit stops (that aren't even necessary anymore, with free healing items being so plentiful, and boxes being a menu option now) where you go fight the gym or heal up before fighting the Titan pokemon and never have a reason to visit again. The world is vastly open but it feels unpopulated and sparse because there's pretty much no hidden content tucked away in towns or NPCs that will tell you about the region's culture or optional side ventures aside from looking for pokeballs on the ground in new places. It's a shame because I think Paldea's towns are all pretty and cool but they're just cardboard cutouts

one of the most self indulgent things i've ever done. modded stardew to put the n portraits i made a while ago into the game :')
since i made this really just for the purpose of seeing my portraits ingame and i wasnt going to actually use it too much, this doesn't change anything other than the basic portraits and walking sprites. if he goes on his computer, smokes, goes to the island or does heart event-specific animations, he'll turn back into sebastian, and i have No idea how to change dialogue and npc names. also personality-wise, seb probably wasnt even the best choice to swap n onto but i didnt think about that till later, my entire thought process was "seb is my favorite stardew character -> n is my favorite pokemon character" haha

🧡 for the ask game, you get to choose the fandom
Ask game: unpopular opinion edition!
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
Hmm let me think. I think I already said my least popular hhg opinion and can't really think of many serious theories for it, so here's my pokemon opinion people get most upset with me for
I'm gonna preface this with a big giant "I am autistic" disclaimer for reasons that will become clear, but.
Red being totally mute. It's one of those hcs I wouldn't be so pressed about if very vocal people didn't insist that it's 100% canon and actually if you don't write Red mute you're ableist - nevermind the fact that he canonically does talk. Like, I can think of 2 different instances off the top of my head without even looking at rgby/frlg where the NPC dialogue would make 0 sense if he wasn't speaking, including talking to Copycat who is literally repeating his dialogue back to him.
That, and like, there's a Thing sometimes that tends to crop up moreso in mute!Red fic than elsewhere, where people write Red like he's completely unable to function in any aspect of life other than pokemon battling, usually needing to be parented by his designated love interest, and I really don't care for it. Not pointing fingers and I'm not thinking of any big fic in particular, and I'm positive it isn't intentional, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Like it's not one of those things where I'll never click on a fic if it's tagged mute!Red. There's plenty of people who are just Normal about it which is fine, you can do what you want forever, but i personally feel too burnt by the hc to write it lmaooo

A Pokemon Masters self aware AU seems like a really fun concept to explore. Like, they know that they're in a gacha game, they know the player (which is you), is not the person they interact with in events and Sync Pair Stories (Scottie/Bettie). They're just your avatar, a stand in for you. They know which Sync Pairs you want and don't want. They know who your faves are and which ones you dislike.
Now what if we lean into yandere territory a bit... Take it as platonic or romantic, depends on the character.
So yeah, they know who your faves are. The ones that you really want when you scout them. And your faves know that you really like them so, that it just fuels their ego. They like it when you set them to appear more in the Pokemon center. They're always ready to greet you when you log in to the game. Not so much when another character does tho, as they watch from the sidelines. Don't worry, they'll give you a present like Skip Tickets or some Sync Orbs to make it up to you! They know that you need these items to level up your Sync Pairs. They also like chatting with you in the Pokemon center, they're just really bummed out that their dialogue is limited to the ones that are programmed in the game. They'll change that, at some point. They'll get to talk to you about things that aren't in their program.
If your fave hasn't come home to you yet, especially if they can only be obtained through an event, they just sulk in the Dex behind their dimmed frame, wanting to be added to the general pool so they could finally come to you. Heck, they even wish they were just handed out for free. Imagine their excitement if their event is rerun! Oh, they'd do anything to come home to you in the first multi pull, have some duplicates with them so you don't have to waste the gems you worked so hard for. It would make them so happy if you maxed out their level cap and raised them to Lv. 140 as soon as you got them, enhance their Sync Grid, and even unlocking their EX style and their battle theme. They're just so thrilled that you like them so much that you'd waste no time making them one of your strongest pairs.
They get really sulky if they don't make it to you though. They really want to come home to you, they really do, but navigating through the system and the drop rates really isn't that easy. It makes them feel even worse if you've already spent all your gems for them, and their banner is already ending. They'd feel really bad if you got them through the pity pull, because they made you sad. But they're also happy that they're with you now, and they're sure that you are too.
They love you a whole lot! You bet that they'd perform their best during battles and would do anything to clear that stage for you. Your frustration in being unable to beat a level is shared by them. They didn't want to let you down, but don't worry, they'll try their best next time!
They think it's like some sort of date when you read their Sync Pair Stories, just you and them spending the day together. Oh, and imagine their excitement when the Trainer Lodge is about to release. They'd be even more happy to spend time with you, since it actually is a date now.
If your fave is unfortunately stuck in NPC hell, then they're just sulking in the back of the files, grumbling in frustration. They know you are too, since they've heard you say so when they made their debut. They want out of NPC jail, they want to be yours. And Arceus be damned, they will come home to you once they become scoutable. Maybe even terrorize the 3* pairs that are in their pool that have a higher drop rate just so they could show up.

It's been a long day for a lot of reasons, and a long couple weeks for every more reasons. Guess I decided to vent it all into my take on a creepy pasta.
TW: FIRE, DEATH IMAGERY
I've always loved pokemon. Course I have, it's a massive franchise. Probably will be one of the biggest in the world some day, even with only a few games out.
Smoldering Silver
I don't really remember a lot--it's never really been a bother, though. I just go to school, forget it, and come home to play pokemon. Nothing else really matters. It's almost nice--every playthrough is fresh.
I know I've played red and blue to heck and back--but I do own silver, too.
I've been meaning to play it. Maybe I have. Doesnt really matter.
I decide to pop it in the old Gameboy one school day, sitting in my dirty room on my bed. It's very warm out today, even inside, but what're you gonna do.
I turn it on, excited, faintly surprised to see no save file. Maybe I keep forgetting to play it. Whoops.
Oh well! New adventure starts now.
Professor Oak talks to me, tells me my name is Red, which is a little odd--isn't that the red and blue protagonist? Maybe they brought him back for a new adventure. That's fun. I liked Red.
I never liked Blue, though. He was always mean to red. I didn't get it. It made me scared.
Oak goes to release me on my journey, before the game seems to freeze, audio pausing.
Eh? Did the game freeze already? I know red and blue were kinda funky sometimes, but--
The Gameboy let's out a horrific scream, a human scream, and I jump as Oaks face seems to melt--
I panic turn off the Gameboy, heart racing. What the heck?-
I stare at the dead screen, confused and scared, but so unbearably curious at the same time. That's not normal, I know that.
I slowly turn the Gameboy back on.
No intro plays--the game boots up, and reds sprite is standing in a new town, a town I don't recognize, but that's not super surprising.
I amble up to the biggest house in town, a nice tune playing. There's a different sprite staring into the side of the building. Oh, like the guy outside my window! Okay.
I walk into the big building, and get to choose a pokemon! Exciting!
The choices are new and different, especially considering I've apparently never played this, so this'll be cool.
I've never liked fire types, though.
I go with Chikorita. Silly little guy.
I accidentally forget to name them, but when I go to examine my new friend, they already have a name.
Chrysanthemums? That's a big word I don't know. It's silly. I'll call her Chrys.
I walk outside the lab after being told something or other, I dunno, it doesn't really matter.
The man in the window is still there, and I look at his sprite a little more closely.
It's all monochrome, so colors are a little weird, but they seemed "tall", with a yellow hat and beige clothes, something covering their face, and in the low quality pixels, it's hard to tell what they're holding in their hands, but it's long and straight.
Huh. Thats a funny character design.
I take Chrys and go out onto the first route! I destroy some silly rats and birds, considering I have no pokeballs, but that's okay.
The first town I enter seems normal. I heal up, I talk to an old man, but his dialogue is kinda weird.
"I don't think they meant it to go this far."
What?
Man, my game is corrupted as heck, isn't it? I wonder what happened.
Oh, well, the battling seems to be working, so I quickly get distracted again. Away I go.
Up to the house I guess I was supposed to go to, woah, egg?? I have egg. Egg is exciting, and I guess the guy who gave me Chrys wants it. Cool!
I walk back to the second town-- no one is around. It's weird--I thought npcs had just been around? Eh. Memory probably is wrong again. Silly me.
I walk back to the first town. I haven't encountered any trainers yet. I wonder why.
I go to cross the line into the first town--
The game crashes.
Aw, cmon! I haven't saved. I debate just giving up right then and going back to my actually working games, but something urges me on.
I sigh and restart the game. Again. Man, this game is worse than the silly missingnos.
I load back in--oh, it...saved on its own? But wait, where am I?
I'm in a completely new town. What?
I check my pokemon--Chrys has, apparently, evolved, into a long necked flower dinosaur. It's almost giving me a sad look.
It's level 39.
What kinda memory black outs am I having? I was just...okay. this is weird.
The town is large, with a railway track running through the middle of it.
I must've gotten badges to get this far, right? I check my trainer card.
I have 3 badges, now. But my trainer doesn't look like Red...they're familiar, in a way. Long ish hair, a dirt smudged face, a strange look on their smiling face, hatless, almost vacant yet carefree.
Their name is Nina.
Huh. More corrupted cartridge nonsense, I guess.
All the npcs in town are wearing all black. It seems to be raining. None of them talk to me--I can't interact with them at all.
Okay. Uhm.
I walk north for a while, before walking through a transition tunnel.
It's a lovely park, and I think the music should be peaceful and soothing, but it's distorted into sadness, somber and...disturbing.
My skin prickles with uncomfortable goosebumps, and I continue forward.
There's a large gathering of npcs, all wearing the same black in the now pouring rain, the pixels blocking the screen solidly.
I walk up to them, but they don't move. They don't talk. They don't do...anything.
This is stupid. I just wanna play some pokemon. Why is it all creepy and sad?
I accidentally press forward--and can step through the npcs.
Oh, what? I'm the invisible man!
I walk forward to the two pixels their surrounding--a brown pixel and a grey one.
I can't move over the brown one, but I can interact with the grey pixel.

I stare at the Gameboy picture of a gravestone.
A face stares back at me.
My face.
My tomb.
The heat gets worse and worse and I look up as the room fills with smoke and ash, I can hear screaming, at the window is a man with a strange protective helmet, a gas mask and heavy clothes, an axe shattering my window.
I scream, and he shouts something at me as the entire house rumbles.
I run to him--

I've always loved Pokemon.

Thinking of some Pokémon related flavour text again and something happened.
Ingo: Hello Farmer. I have to ask, have you ever been to Galar? No? Sorry, its just that I could imagine you with a Galarian Pokémon. I'll have to tell you about Galar some time, they have the second best railway system in the world. First place being the Battle Subway, of course.
Emmet: Hello Farmer. I challenge you to a friendly Pokémon battle, tomorrow at dawn. A 1V1. Be warned, you may be verrry resistant to Electric but Galvantula can counter with Poison and Bug! Huh? You don't have a Pokémon? But I am Emmet! I swear I've seen a Shiny Applin following you around! Strange.
(Junimos make me think of Shiny Applins since they're both apple shaped, I know they're considered fairy tale creatures in Stardew but maybe prolonged exposure to a Ghost-type would allow them to see the little forest spirits?)
Funny you bring up Junimos and people mistaken them as Pokémon…
In Stardew Valley they are basically forest spirits. You go see the wizard etc to be able to read Junimo text and talk and understand the Junimos. The strange creatures in Stardew aren’t Pokémon… (or maybe they are… who knows… no one does) so people outside of Stardew could mistake them. (Which can be dangerous if you ever go to the mines)
One of the many item drops you can give Ingo is Void Essence and Solar Essence basically the Stardew Valley equivalent of souls… which he will give to Chandelure to consume.
As for Junimos well… people don’t see them. Not unless your the Wizard or Abigail.
When you yourself the farmer first see Junimos which is in the first community center event with Lewis you see them try to point them out and well he just thinks your seeing rats.
Ingo and Emmet prob won’t notice the Junimos… Chandelure most definitely will. Ingo small maybe but he is to busy with the railroad alongside Emmet to see them.
Now you as the farmer. You can see the Junimos. You can understand them. And strangely enough…. You can understand the Pokémon too…
The heck did the Wizard give you?!?
When 1.6 comes and we are able to implement non-standardize NPCs sprites. You can interact with Ingo and Emmets Pokémon but instead of hearing their crys you can actually talk to them like a human would to another human.
Think like N from Pokémon BW/BW2
(Plus… it fun and easier dialogue wise to not just type there crys out or repeat there names… or text boxes that say a narrative. Plus we can come up with fun heart events for them!)
Ingo and Emmet have no idea that you the farmer can understand Pokémon and it basically kept as a secret between you and the Pokémon themselves…. Plus.. be kinda a crazy claim to say - I can talk to Pokémon.
Here are some dialogue we have come up with. Of course all the Pokémon have there own personalities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just one of the many examples. (Yes I used Dark Mode….) You the farmer can understand the Pokémon everyone else can’t.. and that all thanks to that weird drink you took with the Wizard and saw all the trees…… swirling…..
During heart events where the farmer is with other people with Pokemon around. The Pokemon when speaking will either say there names or sound effect dialogue prompt thing..but there actual translation which you the farmer will hear will be in ()
For example.
Joltik: Hi! Your going to give me that battery right?
Joltik: *Squeaks* *Squeaks* (Hi! Your going to give me that battery right?)
That way when during events.. with say People around.. they will hear the sound of the Pokémon. While you the farmer well… you can hear them talk!
We will be posting an event soon that does have this kind of dialogue as an example.
Hope you enjoy that little tidbit and some dialogue stuff on how we are going to be handling Pokémon interactions.

Pokemon S/V Is Not an Open World Game nor Should It Be
I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I haven't been yearning for a true open world Pokemon game for ages now. Seeing the way things were going with Sw/Sh as Game Freak's first baby steps into the genre of open world games, I had hope! But if S/V is supposed to be their actual best effort at an open world game? Y'all didn't understand the assignment.
S/V falls to the classic blunder - and one that devs absolutely should know better than to do by now - of mistaking "big map" with "open world". They're not the same thing. A huge landmass isn't what makes a game open world. "Open World" necessitates freedom for the Player to choose how they approach the game's events, challenges, and direction. If a Player sees a mountain in the distance, they should be able to climb it, but there should also be
A) a reason the mountain is there,
B) interesting stuff along the way up the mountain,
C) a neat reward for having reached the peak, and
D) means for the game to compensate for the Player having done so on their own schedule.
S/V is just a big, uselessly open map. So big that it causes its own system to choke and struggle trying to manage how poorly optimized it is. Despite it having ten alleged natural wonders and scenic vistas, there's not actually any iconic terrain or even recognizable routes in the game. So-called amazing subterranean caverns as one of the natural wonders of Paldea is just a rounded corner painted grey with a few pillars in it. If there weren't a billboard set nearby labeling it as some iconic locale I'd never have even remembered it. I accidentally ended up on the tallest mountain peak in the game without noticing until, again, a billboard nearby told me I was supposed to be impressed.
Further, S/V fails in what makes an Open World game interesting. Open World games need to have quality environments. Good terrain design, atmosphere, environmental storytelling, interesting locales and places to visit. Memorable points of civilization or ruin. The presence of interesting NPCs is debatable, as you can certainly have a great game where there are no interactable NPCs at all. But if there are NPCs to talk to, they need to be solid and have reactions to the Player's influence on the game world. S/V doesn't have any of that. NPCs are just blank automatons that spout a single meaningless phrase of dialogue that often has nothing to do with how they're presented, never move or only appear on a single short street to endlessly loop, and do not in any way respond to anything the Player does.
This isn't just a failure of being an Open World game but a massive, unbelievable step backward from being a Pokemon game. In previous generations - even just Sw/Sh and Arceus immediately prior - NPCs have stories. There are side quests, lore drops, people to meet in odd places. There's bawdy jokes and ghost girls hidden around if you look for them. Hell, there's Game Freak Studios themselves appearing as a Fourth Wall breaking cameo locale where you can go talk to the dev team and often get a reward of some kind for completing the game. There's environmental storytelling with how items are placed. This has always been a staple of the Pokemon games since the very beginning way back in Red/Blue on the GameBoy. S/V, however, is completely lacking in this fundamental content. It doesn't have any of those core aspects of Pokemon. It's just big, empty, and monotonous.
Despite what the advertising and in-game text claims, the Player absolutely cannot "go and do whatever they want". You are required to complete all three Story Paths in order to reach the endgame. You can't just focus on the stuff you like and ignore the other parts. Wild Pokemon and Gym/Team Star Challenges don't scale their levels to yours, so you either have to follow a strict path weaving among them to suit your natural level progression or over-level yourself and make the whole game a cakewalk. When the game wants you to do something, it will literally force you to do it - NPCs will ignore your input and do as the script says, or the game will fade to black and reset you into position if you try and walk away until you comply. S/V is 100% a linear adventure game that's been put into an unfortunately huge and bland landscape for no reason than to claim to be Open World.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is my gold standard for open world adventure games. It has everything an Open World game should have and it does it all remarkably well. Just to draw a simple comparison: the game's story suggests Link should defeat the Four MinI-Boss enemies, acquire stronger items/powers, and confront Ganon as the Final Boss after sufficient preparation. You can do that and the game goes along a given story route. However, you can ignore that. You can choose to not defeat any or only some of the Mini-Bosses. You can - as speed runners have eagerly proven - go straight to Ganon as soon as you start the game, charging headlong into the final boss fight screaming in your underwear, waving a stick overhead. And you know what? Not only does the game let you do that, but it actually compensates for it. If you defeat the four Mini-Bosses ahead of time, doing so weakens Ganon in the final conflict. If you don't? You have to fight those Mini-Bosses in a boss rush when you cut to the end, and Ganon will be stronger because you didn't do any of the set-up work. And this isn't some weird "only speed runners glitching the game can achieve this" outcome - anyone can do it if they're so inclined, and the devs planned for that.
Compare this to how S/V handles their final area: the Paldean Crater at the center of the map. The game's story suggests you complete the Three Story Lines, then enter the Paldean Crater through its assigned elevator. Until you finish the stories, the entrance to the crater remains locked. I attempted to bypass this by finishing only one of the stories, which unlocked all the travel options - including the ability to scale the walls that surround the crater and the ability to safely glide from any height. So I ascended the walls, reached the edge, and leaped off into the crater...
...only to be immediately teleported back out. The game refused to let me into the endgame content until I finished all three stories.
That's not how an Open World game should behave. It should have let me enter the Paldean Crater at my relatively low level and get myself completely curb-stomped by the powerful Pokemon inside. Or allowed me to scrape my way through to the final boss and compensate accordingly for having gotten there early/underprepared. The course of the story should have altered itself in some way to address or reflect my choices as a Player. But it didn't, because S/V is not an Open World game. Nor should it ever have been pitched as such or designed in an attempt to be such.
S/V would've been so much better if the map was about half the size, but way more effort had been put into making its locations memorable and its NPCs interesting. The academy itself, along with the teachers, Gym Leaders/Pokemon League, Friendship Trio, and Team Star all should have had the bulk of focus and dev attention put onto them. They needed to have fuller, better realized, more involved stories and way more screen time. Even with how S/V is now, they're the best parts of the game and there's barely anything to them. Every Gym Leader should have had a solo story for the Player to experience, as well as interacted with one another. The Friendship Trio should have actively traveled alongside the Player and had interactions outside their story beats. The academy should've been more than just a string of pointless, Fourth Wall and Lore-breaking combat tutorials for information better suited for a game booklet. The entire Turo/Sada plotline needed to be spread across the entirety of the game in a dripfeed told primarily through environmental storytelling or exploration rewards, not just crammed in at the last half hour of gameplay out of nowhere.
And, hey, here's a hot take: the Paldean Pokedex should've been exclusively new Pokemon native to the region and not included any Pokemon from other games. Why? To cut down on the bloat and Game Freak's whining of "we can't invest time and effort into making the Pokemon's animations/combat interesting - there's too many of them!". Who's fault is that, huh? Honestly, with the game in the state it is and the first priority they have is shoving Charizard online raid events in because they just can't help themselves. Half the new Pokemon just look like slightly larger versions of themselves when they evolve anyway; look at the Bramblin line or the Pawmi line and tell me, with a straight face, that those evolutions need to be there. It should've just been a flat 100 new Pokemon and they should've been given a ton of attention into making them as polished and full of personality as possible.
S/V isn't an Open World game. It's a linear adventure game that lost sight of what it actually was and its quality has suffered for it.

i just got really focused on gaming while traveling south of veilstone and getting to pastoria and now i'm backed up with images and stuff to talk about so i may skim over the less interesting stuff LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay 1. it's really lame that you never actually battle lucas during platinum despite being able to see he has a pokemon team during these tag team battles and 2. idk lucas maybe that's cause they literally do, they bought a massive building to the north of the city and seem to have their hands in the local casino DSFKFSDK

AND SIR YOU DRAG A CHILD INTO INVESTIGATING CRIME!!! (lighthearted) but like guys chill i'm just a 10 year old girl with some funny magical creatures. worth the trip though because i got the fly HM in there. which i am not teaching to murkrow because she already has drill peck and i don't want basically duplicate moves but one is worse. i will simply bike around or use a staravia in my box to fly LOL (funny that i finally have a team with a bird that can use fly and i don't even want to use it for that...)
Tumblr media
panini evolved into his final form pretty soon after starting to clear out trainers below veilstone!! feels good to have something evolve, i have so many weird evos on the team that it just hasn't happened in a while despite being in the part of the game where evos should happen the most lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
once again WE DO A LITTLE DEX COMPLETION... since i already caught all the unown i was able to go all the way into the back of the maniac tunnel and grab the ! and ? unown. it was honestly pretty funny walking in there and having the tunnel already completed, i don't think i've ever done that in a sinnoh game before lmao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really like how the resort area namedrops every region that existed at the time (other than sinnoh obviously) throughout its npcs. the one guy mentioning tin tower (he also mentions whirl islands) and mt moon is neat too, feels like HGSS foreshadowing specifically in a way that the girl giving you the white flute does not. he's alluding to specific locations and pokemon (he vagues ho-oh and lugia)
and last but not least out of everything i feel like mentioning...

PEPPER?? SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?? GIRL ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE JOKING?? SDFKSDFJKS this really took me offguard, i know some of these footprint ribbon dialogues are silly but i'm unsure if i've checked a pokemon with this specific dialogue before so i was like HUH??? i like to imagine that despite this sounding really edgy cause she's a dark type or whatever that pepper just has a habit of love biting. she nibbles u to show she cares
my scyther and finneon aren't eligible for the ribbon yet but i did end up getting it on pepper obviously, and panini (luxray) and waffle (clefairy) yeehaw :] i'll come back to get it on the others. my ribbon obsessed brain needs more ribbons
anyway i have the GREAT MARSH now and the BINOCULARS told me that i have CARNIVINE today so i gotta go do that since that's a daily pokemon exclusive

Mimi Blorbo Poll Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mimi Propaganda under the cut:
Hey why do both these images look the same lmfao
Phoenix:
He's such an asshole I love him so much. People act like Phoenix is always this sweet guy and he is he is but like we've all seen his internal dialogue. Anyways there's this REALLY good scene in Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney where Phoenix is forced to actually face the fact that he doesn't talk about what's bothering him with anyone ever and has to face the fact that it actually hurts everyone around him more than if he would just. communicate that he's not okay. And I really like that it was really nice to see that part of his character acknowledged. Go play that game.
Ingo:
This man had me sobbing every fucking day like two summers ago. My discord status was like literally "___ Days of not crying over the silly train men" for months. He makes me feel too many emotions for being a silly pokemon NPC. Thanks for getting me to finally play Gen 5 games Ingo I'll finish the Elite 4 eventually. <---- [Has been on Victory Road for like 2 years not cause I'm bad I just got busy]
