81: Why am I not surprised | The smell of blood

10: Yan Que

Yan Que prefers tea, but when the emperor drinks, everyone drinks. He throws back the cup, feels Xiao Xuan’s eyes on him as it burns all the way down.

“Why am I not surprised,” comes the murmured voice, “to find your name on this report? I once counted you as my most trusted friend. When I claimed my throne you were at my side. Yet now, you stand with my son, with his accusations, and I am not even surprised. What happened?”

Yan Que coughs. “Your Majesty,” he says. Your most trusted friend was someone else, he does not say.

The world outside is cold, hard, and rough, but darling is soft, warm, and pretty <3 fem Miguel probably playfully bites her darling's tummy and thighs when things get spicy, she caresses and grabs with so much tenderness and passion.

but I think fem Miguel actually gets feral when she can't hear her darling. She's got very sensible hearing and eyesight because of the spider DNA, so keeping them in sight outside her dark lair is kinda difficult, hearing them is easier. Their footfall is heavier so it makes more noise, especially if they try to run away, a chubby darling takes up more space so any shuffling around is more noticeable. So when fem Miguel suddenly can't sense her darling around is when she gets aggressive, and venomous bites become rough in contrast to the ones given in the bedroom. It doesn't help with the fact that heavier people need more of any substance for it to work effectively, (like medicines and alcohol) so the bite may be deeper or be more than one for the venom to take effect.

On the one hand, if Marquis Yan hadn't been such a deadbeat Jiujiu then maybe Prince Yu would have been a better candidate for Emperor. On the other hand we saw what being a good candidate for Emperor with a powerful and involved uncle did for Prince Qi, so possibly Marquis Yan actually prolonged Prince Yu's life and saved his kid.

Yueyao probably visits Lin-dage as often as he does, but he’s still caught out, running into her here. Even more caught out by their shared grim expressions. As they explain, though, he feels his own jaw tightening.

“I still say you shouldn’t go,” says Lin-dage, but Yueyao shakes her head.

“It’s a working party. His company is an important client, and I’m meant to be hosting. I’ll be missed”

“Don’t go alone, then.” Yan Que takes a breath. “I’ll go as your fiancé, drive you home after.”

Her gaze is measured, but her mouth softens just slightly as she nods.
