Save cities from massive ogres in 'Extinction'

If you've played Tron: Evolution, BioShock 2: Minerva's Den or Destiny — among quite a few others — you've played a game worked on by Iron Galaxy Studios. The Chicago- and Florida-based development studio formed in 2008 primarily to help other studios port their games to new platforms, debuting their first original game, Wreckateer, in 2012. This was soon followed by two more originals, the two-button fighting game Divekick and the minimalist sports title Videoball. Now, though, the seasoned development team is ready to start teasing a brand-new action game, Extinction, with a brand new trailer and some new details.

Set to release in early 2018, Exctinction will challenge you to fight massive brutes that can crush city walls as well as their flying minions. Strategy and quick reflexes will keep you alive while the hordes of attackers come at you from all sides, including the air. The trailer above shows all of the bloody mayhem you'd expect, plus the requisite lone hero player character — the last of an ancient order who must take on an endless stream of gigantic ogres with just his sword.

The team promises a deep story campaign, various side missions to earn upgrades in, skill-based combat with skill trees to let you play how you want, a fully-destructible environment, a ton of battle scenarios and an "extinction mode" where you just hack and slash your way through wave after wave of giant ogres and their minions.

There will be details yet to come at this summer's E3, before the eventual release by publisher Maximum Games on PS4, Xbox One and PC. "Extinction is absolutely relentless," said Kraig Kujawa, Game Director at Iron Galaxy, in a statement. "We're really happy with the fast, fluid feel of the game and we're looking forward to showing it behind closed doors at E3."

New Extinction Trailer: Massive Ogres Decked Out in Wicked Armor

Avil is the last-remaining Sentinel and only he has the power to save humankind. Iron Galaxy presents a brand-new gameplay trailer for their upcoming action-adventure game – Extinction.

Extinction places emphasis on high-speed traversal around an interactive environment. Avil must move quickly – traversing across rooftops, alongside buildings, and more – to save humanity from the encroaching horde, and take down the seemingly endless waves of ogres (known as Ravenii) using his powers as a trained Sentinel. And while the swarm of smaller minions may seem like the crisis at hand, there’s always a larger problem on the horizon.

Armies of ogres are equipped with their own weapons and armor, requiring Avil to use tactical thinking, the structure of the environment, and even the enemies themselves in order to quickly eliminate the giants before they destroy all that’s left of the world and drive it to extinction.

It will take more than raw power to defeat these monstrous foes. Avil needs to use strategy, cunning and quick thinking to permanently take down ogres covered in layers of bone, iron, spikes, thorns, and dark steel.

Avil fights these giants in real-time combat, but there’s only one way to stop them permanently – decapitation. However, a Ravenii decked out in spiked armor isn’t going to be easy to take-down: its armor will injure Avil if he comes in contact with it. Therefore, he must lure a spiked Ravenii into smashing the ground, cracking his own armor until it breaks away. Only then can Avil sever a limb, vertically run up the monster’s torso, and make the finishing blow using a Sentinel’s most valuable skill: a powerful rune strike.

Extinction will be available on PlayStation®4, the family of Xbox One Devices, and PC in Q1 2018.

В начале месяца чикагская студия Iron Galaxy объявила о разработке Extinction — фэнтезийного экшена, напоминающего этакую смесь God of War и Shadow of the Colossus. Во время выставки Е3 2017, которая проводится в Лос-Анджелесе с 13 по 15 июня, издательство Maximum Games выпустило первый геймплейный трейлер игры. Ролик появился на YouTube-канале компании.

Фрагмент записан в пре-альфа-версии, в которой игровой мир ещё населён не полностью. Разработчики предупредили, что значительная часть контента, показанная в ролике, может измениться к релизу. Видео представляет собой отрывок прохождения одной из миссий, в которой нужно убить двух огров и спасти восемь горожан. Высокая разрушаемость окружения, на которую обращали внимание разработчики, здесь не продемонстрирована, зато есть две битвы. В обоих сражениях играющий сначала наносит удары по уязвимым точкам на ноге чудовища, а затем взбирается ему на спину и делает завершающий удар по шее.

«С незапамятных времён в мире идёт война. Целые поколения людей сражались друг с другом за территории и богатства, пока их настоящие враги готовились к нападению. Полчища ненасытных монстров, рост которых достигает 45 метров, явились, чтобы уничтожить человеческий род. Лишь самые подготовленные способны победить этих чудовищ, называемых ограми. Вы играете за одного из последних защитников мира, воина по имени Энвил (Anvil), достаточно опытного, быстрого и сильного, чтобы справиться с бесконечными волнами Равении (Ravenii) и спасти мир от участи ещё более ужасной, чем гибель, — вымирание».

В Extinction игрокам предстоит выполнять не только задания по спасению горожан и уничтожению огров, но и второстепенные миссии, за которые они получат различные улучшения. По словам исполнительного продюсера проекта со стороны Maximum Games Дерека Нила (Derek Neal), каждый геймер получит неповторимый опыт, поскольку окружение и боевые ситуации в каждом случае будут разными. Также в Extinction будет одноимённый мультиплеерный режим, в котором нужно сражаться с волнами врагов, и возможность создавать собственные уровни для онлайновых соревнований.

Extinction станет четвёртой собственной игрой Iron Galaxy, в основном занимающейся портированием игр других компаний на разные платформы, после Wreckateer, Divekick и Videoball. Также команда участвовала в создании новейшей части серии файтингов Killer Instinct наряду с Double Helix Games, Rare и Microsoft Studios.

Экшен выйдет в начале 2018 года в версиях для PC, PlayStation 4 и Xbox One.
