Ms. Bug redesign!
While I don't actually draw her full design very often, I wanted to redo her look to better reflect where my skill is at. She's part of the Ashevan Mail Society, and uses her position to catalogue what she's learned about the world... though she gets in trouble more often than not for reading people's mail.

hi!!! for wbw, if youve thought about this, how does language work in your world? are there many different languages on asheva or just a common tongue? how about orias and niv, does being old as shit affect their language?
Hello hello! Thank you for your patience.
Tumblr media
There are in fact different languages in Asheva! For simplicity sake, I have them divided regionally, so a distinct language for every distinct region.
Tumblr media
But just like language in the real world, settlements will have their own dialects that may evolve into another language with time.
In terms of how that affects characters like Orias and Niv-- while they are very old beings, they have regularly lived among others since they've been trapped in the Trigala. As such, they would learn what the common language is in the region and forget their "mother tongue".
Though I do think it's very funny that two of the oldest, non-Rane characters are also the only ones not multilingual.

"CROCODILE - What is the most common predator?" For any of your settings
Oooh, that's a tricky one.
Tumblr media
Now, if we're considering Asheva as a whole, it has to be the things that lie beyond.
Surrounding the continent of Asheva is something referred to as the Storm Barrier, and from it are these anomalous infestations. Ravenous, they will absorb any living thing they come into contact with and will only stop once there is nothing left to consume.

Happy WBW! 💜💌 What does the ideal (or stereotypical, or both if they're different) marriage/partnership look like in any of the cultures present in the world of your WIP? Is it about a powerful union of equals? Is it about chemistry and happiness? Is the end goal to produce kids? How does gender impact this, if at all? etc.! :) - @liv-is
Hey there! Thanks for the ask!
Tumblr media
Marriage has never been something I really thought of, so I apologize if I don't answer the question in-depth.
I think the idea partnerships are those built out of love and equality. One thing I've mentioned in the past is that Asheva is a world fraught with disasters. You'd think partnerships would be formed out of survival, but a common mindset among the populace is "if I die, then I die". Folks would rather live a fulfilling life with someone they actually cared about than worry about what will proceed them.

Hi! Happy WBW! This week I've been thinking a lot about religion so... What is considered sacrilegious in your world? Is it common to encounter such a thing or is it punishable (or maybe both)? How do religious institutions react?
Hi there!
Tumblr media
This is a tough question! Religion is a weird topic regarding Asheva, especially since beings we might consider as "gods" walk among the people. I really can't come up with something taboo across the entirety of Asheva.
What I will say is that the Deities are an ever-present force in Asheva. Do something to upset one, and you'll most certainly face the consequences.

Treat!
Tumblr media
In the season of Halloween, why don't I share a little holiday tidbit about Asheva!
In the north-eastern part of Asheva, there's a festival called Fulsjury this time of year. The festival celebrates the journey of the Fool, and participants can be seen dressed up as characters from the tale and reenacting scenes.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday!
What is the most dangerous/terrifying place in the world of your WIP? On that same note, what are the worst and most dangerous creatures one can come across in that land?
Hey there! Thanks for the ask!
Tumblr media
Many parts of Asheva are dangerous for the same reason why our world is dangerous. If you're unprepared to face the natural world, then the natural world will overcome you.
But there are areas that both the inhabitants and the Deities that protect them strictly avoid... the Storm.
Tumblr media
Nobody knows what lies beyond the Storm, not even the Deities have dared to sail beyond that barrier. But what they do know are the things that have emerged from it.
In a way, they resemble anomalous shapeshifters like Niv and Orias, but there is something fundamentally different about them. They lack personality and individualism, acting more like beasts than people. When they reach land, they seek out hosts to attach to and consume, repeating this cycle until they fade completely from existence.
For this reason, civilizations avoid areas the Storm graces. But those unlucky enough to be touched by the Storm become part of it.

Hi, happy WBW Jasper! What are typical to-go snacks in your universe? Are they usually sweet or savoury? Maybe it is seen as lack of manners to eat in rush?
Hi there! I'm going to focus on the main setting for Project : Desert, the Trigala, rather than the whole world of Asheva (because I havent really fleshed out the other four regions)
For folks that live in the Trigala Desert, I'd say fried-dough snacks are popular, especially if you live in an city-state on the region's border or within the central city of Trin. They're easy to make and sit in the stomach for awhile. Tapas are also popular when eating out with a group of people.
In the Trigala, mealtime is considered an important break, especially when one is working out in the scorching sun all day. While not rude to eat in a rush, it's usually considered a sign of stress if one doesn't take the time to eat and relax for awhile.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday!
In your world, what happens when people get sick/injured? What are the kinds of help they can hope for? Are there properly trained doctors or something similar?
Hi there!
Medicine is taught via apprenticeships; information can be easily lost with how sparsely connected settlements in Asheva can be, so it's incredibly important that knowledge is passed down. For the most part, there is some kind of medic or witch-doctor within a settlement. There are even a few travelling doctors.
If someone within a settlement is sick, chances are there will be someone that can help them. The medicine they receive is practical medicine sometimes aided by Rune Mastery to expedite the healing process.

Happy WBW! We're going for something related to my last week's ask: what make-up is popular in your universe? Who and when is allowed/expected to wear it?
Hi there!
I hadn't really considered make-up trends in Asheva, mostly because whether or not a character wears makeup hinges on their design. So I don't think any one group would be allowed or expected to wear make-up.
With that said, I can think of one thing that would definitely be popular.
Arm painting! It started as a way for Ribos to change the patterning on their arms but was eventually picked up by all Rane and in all regions. It uses a paint similar to nail polish to stain one's skin (or the layer of chitin on a Ribos' arm).

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! In the world of your WIP, what are the existing government types and how do they work? How does the government type affect the life of the population and the culture within the country?
Hi there!
Tumblr media
So... government is a hard topic in Asheva. In some aspects, the Deities have a say in what goes on in a given region. If something is not in accordance to their plan, they will intervene as they see fit. But aside from very drastic circumstances, a Deity won't be involved in your day-to-day life.
Most major areas are set up as city-states and are incredibly independent from one another. The concept of countries, and to certain degree nations, is non-existent.
How a city-state sets up its government also depends. The City of Origins Trin, for example, is governed by the Governor and is advised by their cabinet. Those that keep order with in the city are the knights (which if you recall, Reese is a knight of Trin at the start of An Immortal Laid to Rest). Agujero, on the other hand, is a theocracy of sages where knowledge and devotion to the Deities is valued above all.
And these are just the big cities. Smaller towns and villages may not even have a formal system of government.

Happy WBW! What are common traditions in your WIPs when it comes to entertainment - be it adult's drinking competitions and opera houses, or children's stories and games?
Hi there! Thank you for your patience ^-^
Tumblr media
Storytelling is a very important aspect in Asheva-- they say their world was created via a story, after all. Asheva suffers from several disasters yearly, so much of their history gets preserved through the survivors' oral history or in the dusty libraries belonging to Deities. What a particular region and/or city-state does with the stories depends.
The Trigala, for example, is a very social region. Stories of heroes and villains is used as a reason to have late-night festivals year round. What better way to remember your history than through evenings of food, music, and dancing?

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday!
How did the world of your story came into existence (how did it shape itself into what it is today)? Is there any myth/rumour/or lore surrounding it?
For those that write contemporary fiction (but can be answered by anyone!) What your main cast’s relationship with the law (do they abide by it, are they troublemakers, do they actively seek to go against it, etc…)?
Hello hello! Thanks for being patient for the reply.
Asheva is the main overall setting for many of my stories (Pro:Des included); it is a small continent surrounded by a storm that never ends. Asheva was created by a being known as the God of Reality (or colloquially, the Administrator).
It's said that the Administrator fell into the world through a dream and created a land she could escape reality to. Over time, as she continued building this inner fantasy, she would grow weaker and weaker, so she created the Deities to watch over the land in her absence. And when that time came, she walked off into the horizon, never to be seen again.
It's contested whether or not the Admin actually existed as the only record of her existence comes from Deities who have long since passed or have reincarnated too many times to truly remember.

An Immortal Laid to Rest - WIP Intro
Tumblr media
Freedom is the death of self, The act of letting go one’s past And the pressures forced upon you. It is a concept only obtainable By leaving behind the wasteland You once called your home. This is a journey of two souls— the ordained archivist Vincent Helio, whose inexperience has doomed him to a stagnant life of discipline as he tries to live up to the title of “Regis Vicaria”. And the shapeshifter Orias, whose idle life is upended when the shadows of his past re-emerge after being buried for over a millennium. Vincent is offered a change of pace when he is asked to investigate a mysterious shrine that has appeared in the Trigala Desert. There he meets Orias while exploring the ruined depths, and the two of them find a chapel where a beast of oil and ink awaits them. Once awakened, it begins to hunt Vincent and will only stop once it has ripped into his body and stolen away a power locked deep within him. Unable to return home, he joins Orias on his travels, discovering the truth about the shrines scattered among the desert, about the beast hunting him, and about his new companion’s past which he has so desperately tried to forget.
