RIP Andreas Kay, recently taken by brain tumour, & whose extraordinary repository of images lives on. His photography & evident love for the smaller creatures of forests has had a huge influence on my art.

A remarkable closeup of an unusual hummingbird; the White-Tipped Sicklebill. Read all about it following the credit. • • • This is a #Repost from @sebastiandido ・・・ During a night hike down the streams of the Sumaco National Park I found many sleeping hummingbirds close to the waterfalls. One of those species really got my attention due to its bizarre looks! It turns out it was a White-Tipped Sicklebill (Eutoxeres aquila aquila). After a couple of shots it woke up and allowed me to take this picture which I found really interesting at first but... then I realized that another great photographer @scott.trageser.photo took an almost exact picture just a week earlier!   How to Take Good Photos of Nature
Nature photography is a fun and fulfilling hobby, but it can sometimes be difficult to capture great images. If you want to improve the quality of the nature photos you take, start by composing a great scene to photograph.
Douglass Owen shares his expertise as a nature photographer, teacher, and ranger for the National Park Service. In this guide, readers everywhere can take advantage of the same training and master the field craft that enables top photographers to great wildlife shots―even with modest gear. In fact, Doug’s approach actually favors those with simple equipment that frees them to concentrate on the subject and environment rather than fiddling with complex camera settings!
