my friend, reading my plan for F&S 8: yk, if you had a nickel for every time a scene or element in this series was taken from a Disney film, you'd have 3 nickels
Me: what's the third-
My friend: so you have the ending here, the literal MOANA RIPOFF FINAL BATTLE YOU PULLED IN BOOK 5, and your Mickey and the Beanstalk/Great Above ripoff.
Me: first of all, it was Purple, Dark, and Second's idea to build a boat that gets destroyed by the villain in the end, then Purple goes full on Luz Noceda fighting Belos on Orchid's bitchass. Second of all, nobody is turning into a fucking red panda. THIRD OF ALL, it would technically also be Jack and THE beanstalk, which I don't think is a disney tale
My friend: OH SHIT SO YOU'D HAVE FOUR-
Me: WE ALL KNOW DAMN WELL I DIDN'T RIP OFF JACK AND THE BEANSTALK TO MAKE THE GREAT ABOVE WHO THE FUCK KNOWS WHERE THAT CAME FROM-

“Hailey’s On It!,” an original animated comedy-adventure series from Disney Branded Television & Disney Television Animation, will premiere Thursday, June 8 (8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel, Disney XD and next day on Disney+.
From creators and executive producers Devin Bunje and Nick Stanton (”Phineas And Ferb”,”Shorty McShort Shorts: Mascot Prep”), the series, set in Oceanside, California, follows Hailey as she is pushed outside her comfort zone to discover the greatness that lies within. Whether she’s tackling every ride at the county fair, performing in a musical, reuniting a singing duo, or facing her ever-growing and complicated feelings toward her best friend Scott, Hailey is always encountering new challenges ― and more opportunities to conquer her fears.
Auli’i Cravalho (Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana”) stars in the title role as Hailey, a risk-averse but resourceful teenager on a mission to complete every item on her long list of challenging — and sometimes impractical — tasks in order to save the world. Starring alongside Cravalho is Manny Jacinto (“The Good Place”) as the voice of Scott, Hailey’s best friend, and Gary Anthony Williams (“Marvel Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur”) as the voice of Beta, an artificially intelligent operating system from the future. 11. “I had written into the script that Blanc speaks with a subtle Southern accent,” says Johnson, and after they all finish laughing he explains that Craig researched accents and became attached to historian Shelby Foote’s cadence and drawl. “So it’s kind of that, it’s a little Foghorn Leghorn, and it’s also a little Harlan Pepper which is Christopher Guest’s character in Best in Show, which is funny because Christopher Guest is Jamie Lee Curtis‘ husband.”
19. It was Don Johnson’s idea for his character to hand his empty plate to Marta as if she was the maid during the immigration conversation. It’s a great beat.
25. Many of the family’s first names are lifted from 70s musicians to help Johnson remember them while writing. “Joni is Joni Mitchell, and her ex-husband is Neil, Neil Young. Richard and Linda are Richard and Linda Thompson. Walt and Donna are Walter Becker and Donald Fagen from Steely Dan.”
32. Segan recalls the scene where his character grabs Evans’ upper arm “and I could not find purchase… his arm muscle was much larger than my hand.”
35. That last glimpse of Harlan’s portrait at 2:04:13 is tweaked a little “leaving everything feeling okay.” He’s now smiling.

At the concert program notes to this world premiere composed by Mark Kuss, I wrote about my film accompaniment as follows: "The projections accompanying 'Ares' originated from distant battle scenes that I compiled from silent films about the Civil War: 'The Drummer of the 8th,' 'Stolen Glory,' and 'The Coward.' Transformed by my original technique that combines at once the haunting effect of slow-motion with the blur of fast-motion, I overlaid select moments from this material onto my 2019 cinematic setting of Walt Whitman’s ‘Drum-Taps.’ Manifested and expanded for 'Ares,' this complete footage and reinvented cinemagraph technique is now fully realized."

Artists (7/4)
SAUL BASS (GRAPHIC DESIGNER)
If you were a fan of the old classic movies of the 70s and 80s, you will definitely have known Saul Bass. He is famous for designing many movie posters, title sequences and company logos. He was the pioneer of the modern title sequence design. Some of his famous work includes the title sequence of movies such as the man with the golden arm, vertigo, Oceans 11 and Anatomy of a murder. I would say a bridge between graphic design and animation.
WORKS OF SAUL BASS
CHRISTOPH NIEMANN (ILLUSTRATOR)
A German artist who decided to venture out to ‘The Big Apple’ his abstract and minimalistic designs were an instant hit in the city. He became the illustrator for the New Yorker magazine and is also the first artist to create an augmented reality (AR) cover for the magazine. He has received many accolades and has even written books to influence young minds to be inspired by their selves and their environments.
WORKS OF CHRISTOPH NIEMANN
PAULA SCHER (GRAPHIC DESIGNER)
Another pioneer in the graphic design industry, Paula Scher is described as the “master conjurer of the instantly familiar,”. She has been a partner of the New York office of Pentagram since 1991. She began her career as an art director in the 1970s and early 80s, when her eclectic approach to typography became highly influential. She was the creator of the identity of the public theatre.
Her clients include Bloomberg, Microsoft, Adobe, Bausch + Lomb, Coca-Cola, Shake Shack, Perry Ellis, the Walt Disney Company, the Museum of Modern Art, the Sundance Institute, the High Line, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the New 42nd Street, the New York Botanical Garden, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Robin Hood Foundation, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. These clients itself speak for her role in the graphic world of typography and visual communication.
WORKS OF PAULA SCHER
LAWRENCE BECKER ( EXPERIMENTAL MULTIMEDIA ARTIST)
Lawrence Becker became famous for his vines animations of Snow with a mind of its own, sentient food that makes itself. His motto, ‘animate the world’ is a glimpse into his workflow, incorporating many experimental mediums of animation. I first came across his work on felt animations of the fry cook games episode of SpongeBob. In 2014, he was the winner of Tribeca’s #6SecFilm contest for his stop-motion piece of a man getting possessed by a malevolent snowball.
Hand drawn animations, paper cutouts, trippy experimental are all tools he uses to bring his work to life. He’s been asked to produce spots for ESPN, Sony, Airbnb, The Food Network, Mashable, Virgin, and Disney.
KEVIN PARRY (STOP MOTION ANIMATOR AND VIDEO WIZARD)
Kevin Parry is a stop motion artist who has worked on some big screen pictures such as ‘Kubo and the two strings’, ‘Missing link’ and ‘The Boxtrolls’. He has also worked on commercials with VFX supervision. Other than that he is also famous for his YouTube videos of 10 types of magic and the fruit time lapses. I admire his skills in explaining how to start stop motion for beginners, and his insights and feedback given to students.
