After WWDC this year, I feel more compelled to start dropping Apple devices than ever. I'm just so tired of Apple trying to tell me how to feel about the shit they're releasing instead of just showing it to me. Not to mention, I'm really pissed the laptop I bought, new, four years ago isn't getting new updates. If I'm gonna use a software that doesn't get major updates year-to-year, I could at least use something that supports more apps like Windows or is open-source like Linux. Not to mention, both of those OSes tend to have better longevity. I'm also pretty tired of buying hardware that I can't fix or upgrade for over a thousand dollars. Shit just becomes obsolete whenever Apple decides. It was a mistake buying an M1 iMac instead of a gaming PC, and I definitely won't be replacing my suddenly "obsolete" MacBook Pro with another Apple device. Had my eyes on Framework for a while. I just never expected to get the final push I needed, especially this soon.
:: I'm so excited for Apple Vision (why call it pro already??) I don't care if people are calling it another gimmick. Spacial Computing is going to become a bigger thing than AR, and will change how we use VR.
Quote me now; in a few years we're going to be talking about Spacial Computing in much smaller/everyday portable devices.
I'm also oddly really into the Journal app idea? I just think it'll be a nice way to blog/tweet/compile/save/share daily life online.
The Messages updates are fun as well, but I'm more interested in how life will continue to progress in the abilities to share from handheld to desktop devices. The convo I've been having all week with people is; "what can I all connect to my ______ (for me, iPhone) so life just smoothly transitions from one device to the next".
I also realize how dystopian that sounds haha! But I love the idea of walking into a space, the network detecting who I am and flipping on lights / turning on music / readying up Netflix to my last watched episode / prepping my workspace / etc. We COULD be living in some StarTrek type situations but we keep getting scared of possibilities!
Quietly trying to work out how I'm going to afford a new Apple NerdHelmet when they've eventually launched here in the UK.
I mean, I have two perfectly-functioning kidneys. And I'm sure I can offer at least a slice or two of my liver - though it has seen better days.
Joking aside, the technology is mighty impressive, even if the price tag puts it out of reach for the vast majority of us. But remember: it's mark one. Wait until later models, to see lighter, cheaper and inevitably more popular Apple Nerd Helmets.
Then we'll all be clicking on virtual Excel spreadsheets and having conference calls while represented by a not-quite-me, visiting from a horrific uncanny valley.
Haven't seen any press releases from Porn Hub - though it can only be a matter of time...

"It's not like, 'Oh, I can still use my display when the sun is shining on it.' It's like I don't even know. And then I hold my hand in front of it, and it's like I'm in Raiders of the Lost Ark and that beam of light is hitting my hand. And yet when I take it down I can read my screen."
